One Crew Member Was Fired and Another Left During an Explosive Below Deck: "Not Acceptable”
Find out which crew members left St. David on Below Deck Season 11, Episode 7.
After several weeks of less-than-smooth sailing with the St. David crew, Captain Kerry Titheradge completed his first official Below Deck firing on Season 11, Episode 7 (which aired on March 18).
How to Watch
Watch Below Deck on Bravo Mondays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo App .
The Aussie captain, who joined the series for Season 11 after appearing on Below Deck Adventure , let (SPOILER) Jared Woodin go following a series of mistakes as well a conflict with deckhand Kyle Stillie .
Jared wasn't the only yachtie who left the boat, however. Stew Cat Baugh decided to leave the vessel voluntarily after getting a serious phone call from a friend.

Who did Jared Woodin get fired on Below Deck Season 11, Episode 7?
As soon as Season 11 began, Captain Kerry recognized that Jared wasn't cut out to be the Bosun of a mega yacht. After giving Jared a few charters to see if he could improve during dockings and with his communication, Kerry decided to fire the Connecticut native.
Captain Kerry told Jared, "The way that you're treating these guys is not acceptable, and we've had discussions, and I've tried to guide you, I've shown you compassion. But, you've got sh-t going on, mate. You're your own worst enemy right now. You need to depart the vessel."
How Jared Woodin Reacted to Getting Fired
Once Kerry fired Jared, the dad of one seemed surprised. "I'm getting the boot?" Jared asked, and Kerry confirmed that was the case. "Really?"
Kerry noted that Jared did "have a lot going for [him]," but that St. David wasn't the right place for him.
"Take this time and work on yourself," Kerry said. "Me keeping you here is a disservice to you."
Jared ultimately agreed with that assessment in an interview on the episode.
"I thought I was in a good headspace coming in to this, [but] I'm really not. And, as much as I would like to be, I'm just lying to myself," he said. "Although the situation sucks, I actually really do feel a little bit lighter."

Why did cat baugh leave on below deck season 11.
Jared wasn't the only crew member who left St. David on Season 11, Episode 7. After expressing how it was hard for her to find her place amongst the rest of the yachties, stew Cat Baugh received a troubling phone call from a friend named Megan when she was in her cabin.
"I'm sorry, I know you can't talk, but she's not answering, and no one else is awake right now," Cat's friend said on the phone. "Do you have, like, a couple seconds? I'm freaking the f-ck out."
Cat didn't reveal what exactly the phone call was about, but she recognized that she needed to get back home.
"So, I got a call from my friend, Megan," Cat explained in an interview on the episode. "This is a situation I really can't talk about, but my friends are my family, so it feels really sh-tty not being able to be there for her."
After the charter guests arrived, Cat talked to her boss, Fraser Olender , about what she was feeling. He encouraged her to put her mental health first. Kerry did the same.
"My number one job is to take care of my crew and their health," Kerry said. "I'm well aware of mental health. She's got to go, now."
11 Things You Didn’t Know About Below Deck's Captain Kerry Titheradge
"I wish I could have stayed. But, the thing is, there's no way I could have," Cat concluded. "This is too much. I need to be with the people [who] need me, and also, on this boat, I'm at a breaking point. I need to protect my mental health. It's like my support system is at home, not here."

Crews announced for The Boat Race 2024
The Cambridge and Oxford crews for The Boat Race 2024 have been officially unveiled at a crew announcement held at the iconic Battersea Power Station.
The 36 student rowers who have won a place in the Blue Boat were announced at the event which was held in public for the first time in the Boat Races’ history.
The crews for the Women’s Race were unveiled first of all, and the Cambridge crew will feature two returning faces, Jenna Armstrong and Carina Graf, but for the others it is their first time in the coveted Blue Boat.
The crews for the Men’s Race were then unveiled, and this year there are five returning Blues: Seb Benzecry, Noam Mouelle, Tom Lynch, Luca Ferraro and Matt Edge.
The full line-ups are as follows:
Cambridge Women’s Blue Boat
Cox: Hannah Murphy (Girton - MPhil Health, Medicine and Society) Stroke: Megan Lee (Lucy Cavendish - MPhil Management) 7: Iris Powell (Churchill - BA Natural Sciences) 6: Carys Earl (Gonville and Caius - BA Medicine) 5: Carina Graf (Emmanuel - PhD Neuro Sci) 4: Jenna Armstrong (Jesus - PhD Physiology) 3: Clare Hole (St Catharine’s - MPhil Population Health Sciences) 2: Jo Matthews (St John’s - BA Medicine (Clinical)) Bow: Gemma King (St John’s - MRes + PhD Stem Cell Biology)
Cambridge Men’s Blue Boat
Cox: Ed Bracey (Wolfson - MPhil Economics) Stroke: Matt Edge (St Catharine’s - PhD Chem Eng) 7: Luca Ferraro (King’s - BA Classics) 6: Tom Lynch (Hughes Hall - PhD Engineering) 5: Kenny Coplan (Hughes Hall - MPhil History of Art) 4: Gus John (Wolfson - MPhil Medieval History) 3: Thomas Marsh (St John’s - PhD Physics) 2: Noam Mouelle (Hughes Hall - PhD Astrophysics) Bow: Seb Benzecry (Jesus - PhD Film Studies)
Asked by the host of the event, BBC Sport commentator Andrew Cotter, about whether there was a challenge integrating new faces into the Blue Boat, Cambridge Women’s Coach Patrick Ryan said: “Actually there are no new faces, every single one of them is a returner – just new Blues!”
The Cambridge Men’s and Women’s clubs unified in 2020 and Patrick added: “As we’ve become one club, we’ve learned to share more information and work together, hopefully for the betterment of the athletes here tonight.”
Cambridge Men’s Coach Rob Baker was then asked whether the number of returning Blues in the Men’s Boat would give Cambridge an advantage.
“Every year is different, every year is a challenge,” said Rob. “It’s great to have guys that have won the race and been through the process before, but yes it’s always a big challenge but we are up for it”.
It was the first time that Battersea Power Station, which famously featured on a Pink Floyd album cover, has hosted the crew announcement event. Siobhan Cassidy, Chair of the Boat Race Company Limited, said the venue was appropriate, given that it was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, who was also behind iconic buildings at Cambridge and Oxford, including Cambridge University Library.
She added: “[The Boat Race] is the ultimate British tradition, which draws on its heritage yet, with boats full of young students, it is very much an event that looks to the future.
“These young people have a unique opportunity to take to the water on such a high profile day. In order to get there they have made incredible choices. They have combined a full-time rigorous academic schedule with training and racing throughout the year - so let’s not underestimate how impressive these young people really are”.
The Gemini Boat Race 2024 takes place in Putney, London, on Saturday 30 March – with the Women’s Race starting at 14:46 BST and the Men’s Race at 15:46 BST – renewing an intense rivalry which stretches back nearly 200 years. The event will be broadcast live on BBC One from 14:00 BST.
Last year saw Cambridge University win both the men’s and women’s races, leaving the overall records as 86-81 in the favour of Cambridge Men’s and 47-30 in the favour of Cambridge Women’s.

Better Sailing
Sailing Crew Roles and Names
The skipper is responsible for the safety of the yacht and the crew’s welfare. However, sailing a boat successfully requires teamwork from the skipper and the crew. This will ensure that all maneuvers—such as leaving a mooring, hoisting sails, changing tacks, reefing, or entering a marina—can be completed with maximum enjoyment and minimum stress.
Boat Captain/Skipper
It may come as a shock, but the skipper is not necessarily the helm. This crew member must ensure that the boat is ready for sailing. He or she needs to make sure that all members of the crew are accounted for. They also need to make sure that food and fuel are sufficient, and sails are ready for hoisting. The skipper is in charge of keeping communications open onboard and help other crew members if needed. Also, they are usually responsible for talking the whole crew through maneuvers as they are about to happen and making sure that all crew members are ready.
What Makes A Good Skipper?
- Responsibility : The skipper is responsible for all aspects of the running of the yacht, its safety, and the crew’s wellbeing.
- Skills : He or she should be comfortable with sailing and navigation skills, inspire confidence in their crew, and be a good communicator.
- Delegation : A good skipper should keep on top of all his or her duties and give the crew tasks that are appropriate to their experience.
- Patience : He or she should be patient with inexperienced crew members and be able to run the yacht with a light touch while retaining respect and authority.
- Briefing : It is the skipper’s role to plan the passage in detail before setting sail.
- Involvement : A good skipper will also encourage the crew to get involved in passage planning and navigation and will always listen to their opinions.
Tactician
The tactician’s role is to get the boat around the racecourse as fast as possible. For that, he needs to take into account the wind, tide, and other competitors, as well as the crew’s ability. They also need to make sure that the boat has the correct course. In short, the tactician is the brains of the sailboat. The tactician must communicate with the helm and skipper to run through maneuvers.
The Helm (Driver)
The Helm is often mistakenly perceived as the skipper. This crew role is to steer the boat where the tactician says and to keep sailing as fast as possible. The helm is also helping with other tasks, but they must focus on the job at hand as much as possible. The helm and the tactician must be in close communication with each other.
Head Sail Trimmers
This crew role is for two members, one who will cut release the sail when going through the tack while the other pulls in the full sail. The crew member releasing can then assist with tailing the sail or trimming it – which is a good example of teamwork. Also, the trimmer should keep adjusting the sail, depending on the point of sail, and should be very focused on that task. Also, the trimmers are in charge of trimming the spinnaker sail and guy when going downwind. Main communication is kept between each other, boat captain and tactician. Pre-start these guys will have a lot to do!
This crew member is in control of all sail hoists and drops depending on the wind. The bowman spends most of their time on the foredeck (the deck at the forward part of the sailboat), preparing for spinnaker hoists, gibes, and drops.
This crew member is a combination of both the bowman and mastman. They are in control of all of the running rigging which comes into the cockpit. This is a vital role and always in the middle of the action. Pitmans must keep communication is between bowman, mast man, and skipper—the eyes and ears for the foredeck crew.
This position is reserved for the stronger members of the crew. A mastman’s foremost task is to assist with the speedy hoisting of the sails during maneuvers. The mast man and bowman go hand in hand and help each other on hoists and drops. The main communication is with the bowman, pitman, and skipper.
No sailing team is complete without its ballast crew members that help to balance the boat in order to reach its top possible speeds and maneuverability. These members of the crew are called ‘ballast’ and are key when racing for the mark. Ballast crew members have the best seat in the house.
What Makes a Good Crew Member?
- Key qualities : All crew members require a positive attitude, sense of humor, and the ability to get along with others in the confined space aboard a cruiser.
- Willingness to Learn : Good crew members are willing to learn and to take an active role in all aspects of running the yacht.
- Attentive : Diligent crew listen to the instructions carefully and ask questions if they do not understand anything.
- Working As a Team : All members of the crew must remember that they are part of a team. A happy gathering in the cockpit at the end of the passage is an indicator that each member of the crew has done their job.

Boat intercom system tested: Crew-Talk Plus
- Toby Heppell
- February 17, 2023
A boat intercom system has a place on a racing yacht but how useful is it for cruisers? Toby Heppell tests the Crew-Talk Plus to find out
It would be easy to look at a boat intercom system and lump it into the ‘not essential but useful if you have the money’ category. But the benefits for cruisers seem fairly obvious: clear and effective communication over a distance, negating the need for helm and crew to shout at each other, over noise or due to anger.
Boat intercom systems have increasingly become a feature in the racing world, where clear, concise communication is an essential part of making it round the race course at the front of the fleet. But thus far they have not featured that much in the cruising world.
As many know, in this day and age, boats are getting larger and faster, two features which make communicating far more difficult. And with increased size and speed, so too comes reduced manoeuvrability, making that communication ever more important. So could the Crew-Talk Plus be a key tool in keeping everyone in the picture and harbour manoeuvres harmonious? We thought we’d put a unit through its paces to see if this could be an asset to the cruising sailor or something better left to the racing set.
Crew-Talk Plus wireless boat intercom
Reasons to buy: Clear concise communication tool which stands up to the marine environment | Easy to set up | Can be expanded with additional units Reasons to avoid: Not ‘essential’ sailing kit | The fit feels lose
Buy the Crew-Talk Plus intercom from ebay

I admit I was initially sceptical about using a boat intercom system– right up until I tried actually using one onboard, at which point I became much more sold on the concept.
Clear, concise communication with your crew in moderate tones serves to remind us, not only of how often we need to raise our voice when onboard, but how inefficient shouting from the tiller is, how unclear those instructions can be and how much stress it adds to sailing.
Boat intercom system: the Crew-Talk Plus starter kit costs £373
It’s surprising how much calmer most situations are when you can talk in a normal, measured tone.
Crew-Talk Plus comes in at £375 for a starter kit and consists of two receivers and two headsets. Each receiver and headset combination comes in its own semi-hard case, with charging cable, lifejacket clip, and armband for the receiver.
The headset plugs into the receiver via a headphone jack on the bottom of the unit.
Out of the box both receivers need to be paired to one another, with one unit designated the master. Each unit has two channel options on it, with the Crew-Talk Plus takes the shouting out of onboard communication, whatever the weather master unit paired via its Channel A to the secondary unit’s Channel B.
Should you wish to purchase further units (£175 each) these can then be paired via the secondary unit’s Channel A and the tertiary unit’s Channel B.
Up to four units can be paired in this fashion.
The fit of the headset never feels entirely solid
Straight out of the box, pairing took us a matter of a few minutes and even on a very blustery day the all-round audio performance was very impressive indeed – notably allowing both to speak and receive at the same time, which prevents audio cutting in and out, which can be a problem on some other models.
One major issue I had with the set was the headset’s fit. The headphone section sits at the opening of your ear canal and a rubber piece loops around the back of your ear. This rubber piece felt far too soft and there is almost no adjustment. I constantly felt that there was a chance the headset could fall off and often found myself readjusting it.
I used the whole thing on several occasions never quite shaking the feeling it might come free – that said, it has only fallen out of my ear once, but was caught by the connecting cable.
A genuinely useful tool on board, particularly on larger yachts.

Sena expand.
The Sena features an over the ear headset
The Sena Expand is a water- resistant Bluetooth headset.
Like CrewTalk it can link up to four units.
The key differences are that the Sena sits over both ears and is bigger, but without a separate control unit.
The Sena also offers a slightly lower water-resistance rating – though neither can be immersed.

16 Yacht Charters That Make for a Strangely Affordable Family Vacation
Posted: December 11, 2023 | Last updated: December 12, 2023
While a yacht may be the first thing that pops to mind when you think of the ultra-wealthy, chartering one might not be as expensive as you think. When you're splitting the costs between several family members or friends you are paying for transportation and stay and it can make sense financially.
You can also keep money in your wallet by selecting an older vessel or taking charge of sailing yourself (hiring a crew always costs extra).
So let’s take a look at options that may be within reach for people who aren’t living paycheck to paycheck but aren’t brunching with the Kardashians either.
Editor's note: prices are subject to change and may vary depending on the time of the year.

San Antonio motor yacht
The San Antonio is a luxury motor yacht measuring 146 feet in length that was built in 2018. This huge vessel is capable of accommodating 36 guests in 18 cabins.
The cost to charter it starts at $21,000 per week plus expenses, not including a crew of eight (which we recommend).
Divide the cost by capacity, and that’s only $583 per person per week to start. That’s practically unbeatable for a boat of this size, allowing you to make other savvy moves with your money .

Virginia Mia motor yacht
Constructed in 2001 (with several subsequent refits), the Virginia Mia is another luxury motor yacht that’s 95 feet in length.
Custom-designed by Nuvolari Lenard, this vessel can sleep eight guests in four cabins as well as an additional crew of four.
Still, thanks to the age of the yacht, the cost of chartering starts at $15,000 plus expenses per week, or just under $2,000 per guest sans crew.
Nautilus sailing yacht
White motor yachts are convenient and luxe, sailing yachts promise a more traditional experience.
At nearly 125 feet, the Nautilus is a large option styled by Robert Delus. Built in 2008, it sleeps 10 guests in five cabins. At this size, you'll likely need a crew of six.
The cost to charter this beauty starts at $17,500 per week sans expenses, again just under $2,000 per person — which really isn't bad for all you're getting.
Grow Your $$: 11 brilliant ways to build wealth after 40
Aegean Clipper sailing yacht
The Aegean Clipper is another sailing vessel, this one built all the way back in 1999 — which translates into cost savings for you.
The yacht is another biggie at nearly 135 feet. With 11 cabins, the boat can accommodate up to 24 guests plus five crew members as needed.
In total, your group will have to shell out a minimum of $13,000 plus expenses per week — just over $379 per person. That's a great deal, comparatively speaking.
Silver Fox expedition yacht
If you're looking for something a little smaller that can go the distance, the Silver Fox expedition yacht might be for you.
Built in 2009, the 72-foot yacht accommodates six guests in three cabins for a more intimate experience. There's room for a crew of two if you need their expertise.
With a starting cost of $16,500 per week, the Silver Fox will run each person over $2,700 per week, but the small group may be worth it.
Tivoli expedition yacht
Traveling with a group of the same size but want more length and a bigger crew?
The Tivoli expedition yacht, constructed in 2001 and remodeled in 2010, can fit four crew members. This stunner is just over 90 feet long and can take you on those long hauls.
Yes, it will cost more at $25,000 per week, or over $4,100 per person. But if you can afford it, it’s a dream come true out on the open water.

Shangri-La classic yacht
Classics are classics for a reason, as they stand the test of time. Such is the case with the Shangri-La, a vintage yacht sure to take you to that magical place.
This vessel sleeps six in three cabins and promises to be child-friendly. The Shangri-La was constructed way back in 1965, and it is 82 feet long with space for three crew members.
A week on this rig will cost you $16,500, or just over $2,700 a pop.
Sai Kung classic yacht
Another vintage beauty, the Sai Kung classic yacht was born in 1975 and got a makeover in 2015. That updated this 79-foot vessel that can sleep nine people in four cabins.
Be sure you’re a nautical whiz, as there’s no room for additional crew here, but that will only save you money.
All told, the Sai Kung will set your group back $17,500 per week, just under $2,000 per person.
Glorious open yacht
Outdoor yachts are designed for those who truly want to live outside, which you can do easily on the Glorious.
This sporty 72-footer is ready to help you dive, scuba, and more, with room for six guests in three cabins. You can bring a crew of two for extra help, of course.
Built in 2007 and remodeled nine years later, chartering the Glorious will run you $16,500 per week, again $2,700 per person.
9 nearly secret things to do if you fly Southwest
Speedy T open yacht
Looking for a bigger open yacht that’s perfect for swim buffs? Charter the Speedy T, a vessel that’s 80 feet long and primed for dips in refreshing ocean waters.
Like many of the yachts on this list, it accommodates six guests in three cabins and has room for three crew members.
All told, one week on this sleek ship — built in 1994 and renovated in 2011 — is $19,500 before expenses, translating to $3,250 per head. But the adventure promises to be unforgettable.
Etoile Magique catamaran yacht
With extra stability even at higher speeds, catamaran yachts like the Etoile Magique are great options for adventure.
This 80-foot vessel is roomy for its size, with room for 16 guests in eight cabins. There’s space for a three-person crew, too.
Constructed in 2004 and remodeled a decade later, this is a budget-friendly adventure in the making. At $18,710 per week before expenses, that shakes out to a bit over $1,100 apiece.
Fuerte 3 catamaran yacht
Meaning “strong” in Spanish, the Fuerte 3 catamaran yacht — built in 2004 and renovated in 2010 — offers a more intimate experience than the Etoile Magique, with space for nine guests in four cabins.
On the smaller side, at 67 feet, you can bring two crew members along if you need them. The price tag for one week is around $22,000, or just over $2,400 a pop. This vessel is best in shallower waters.
Astrape sport fishing yacht
If your idea of the perfect vacation is sport fishing, this boat is for you. The Astrape sport fishing yacht comes with top-of-the-line fishing equipment so you can catch your dream fish.
Built in 2008 and remodeled in 2016, the 76-foot vessel sleeps eight in four cabins. It also has room for three crew members.
On the pricier side at $29,000, a week will cost each person nearly $3,700 — worth it if you can show off that once-in-a-lifetime catch, though!
Barefoot sport fishing yacht
Giving us some real Orca energy, the Barefoot sport fishing yacht was built in 2006 — much later than that famed vessel from "Jaws."
The 64-foot boat is designed for fishing in shallower waters, perfect for you and five friends who will share three cabins. Two crew members can fit, too.
This yacht is cheaper than the Astrape at $17,500, so six folks will pay just under $3,000 a head per week.
Prenses Lila gulet yacht
Gulet yachts are known for their tall masts, ample deck space, and Turkish origins — perfect for a Mediterranean voyage.
To that end, the Prenses Lila is an excellent option for groups of 18. At 114 feet with eight cabins and space for five crew members, this boat beckons.
You can charter Prenses Lila — built in 2009 and remodeled in 2009 — for $17,500 per week in September.
Dreamland gulet yacht
The second gulet yacht and the final boat we’re covering is Dreamland, which will surely take you there.
Constructed in 2006, 12 guests can sleep in six suites on this 105-foot vessel as well as five crew members.
You can book Dreamland for around $26,000 in high season. Divide that by 12, and you land on about $2,200 per person. That might require some financial fitness , but yachts like this don’t come around every day.
Bottom line
Spending your days sunning and swimming aboard a luxurious yacht may seem like an out-of-reach proposition, but we’re here to tell you it’s possible.
In fact, with planning and savvy budgeting, you can score your dream seafaring adventure. You can even use your favorite credit card to book and earn travel rewards .
Traveling by charter yacht is also more environmentally friendly than flying, which means you can feel good about your sailing vacation.

Fate of mystery boat sweep revealed after wipeout at NSW Surf Lifesaving championships
Exclusive: the identity of the man caught up in the centre of the drama has been revealed..
It's the picture worth framing – but the star of the show wants nothing to do with it. The dramatic photo of Mona Vale Surf Club's boat sweep Bryce Munro – vertical and headed for an unknown fate - was captured by photographer/journalist Mike Gee during last week's NSW Surf Lifesaving Championships at Queenscliff on Sydney's northern beaches.
Gee was out walking his dogs when he came across the surf carnival. "I was taking some wide angles to get some atmospheric shots and focused on one of the boats returning to shore," he told Yahoo Sport Australia . "As I did, the boat went down a wave and I started taking photos. It nose-dived, stood on its end for a good 10 seconds and then dropped down, the sweep hanging on for dear life, the crew in the water.
"I knew I had a sequence of the boat going down, going up and hanging in the air. Luckily, they all came out. I've been taking photos for more than 15 years now and done a lot of surfing and surf lifesaving events but I have never seen a 'stack' like this one. I'm just glad that nobody was seriously injured. It could have all turned out badly."
Fellow photographer Jon Dibbs also captured the dramatic moments the boat was up-ended and Munro pushed the eject button. Munro's identity was initially a mystery, with social media followers eager to find out who he was and how he finished up.
Bryce Munro speaks out after dramatic wipeout
Yahoo Sport Australia tracked him down at a Sydney worksite, where he revealed the photos brought back not so fond memories. "I'm not such a fan of it. It’s a reminder that we didn’t get through the heat," he said. "It was something that didn’t quite go to plan and that's the one everyone is talking about."
In typical clubbie fashion, the modest Munro didn’t want to talk up the incident, insisting the reality wasn't as dramatic as the images suggest. He said: "I've been doing this a long time and didn't think too much of it to be honest.
"I thought we'd just bounce backwards or come out of it. It wasn't a big wave with a big face, but there was a fair bit of water behind it and it caught us in the belly of the boat and there was only one way it could go. I didn't get pitched out. I just looked down for a bit of clear water with no waves and did a little pencil dive."
