Brise de Mer is a beautiful example of Ted Hood’s popular Little harbor 53 series that boasts fine workmanship throughout. As much a daysailer as she is a swift blue water cruiser, her unique cockpit layout allows one person to easily sail the vessel without ever leaving the cockpit. She features a generous beam which provides commodious storage and living areas, as well as excellent seakeeping and stability offshore. Upwind performance is improved by her deep centerboard which increases her draft to 11’4”, while her 6’ shoal draft allows for cruising shallower waters that other yachts of her size can only dream of entering.

Brise de Mer features one of the most spacious feeling layouts of this series, having two large private staterooms, each with its own head (both electric) and separate shower. The heated/cooled forepeak was originally used as additional sleeping quarters for the captain, but is presently used as a very large storage area for extended cruising. The owner’s cabin rivals in size those found on much larger yachts.

Her interior is beautifully appointed. The centerpiece of the main salon is a stunning oval dining table with gold foil inlay. Additionally, her layout dispenses with the standard centerline salon fixed center seating, instead incorporating a lovely coffee table that can be either stowed or else used as additional seating (with matching upholstery) around the dining table. The advantage of this arrangement is that combined with the two cabin layout, the main salon is noticeably more spacious than most/all other LH 53’s.

Floorboards are solid teak and holly. The overhead consists of white removable formica with teak battens. Lockers are lined with cedar and have automatic functioning lights.Counter tops are Corian in the heads and galley, all others are teak. Shower floors are grp with teak grates. All the beds have canvas lee cloths, and there is an abundance of book shelves, drawers, and large storage areas throughout the vessel.

Her teak decks are still in great shape followingreconditioning a few years back. She enjoys a low hours main engine and sound-shielded generator, as well as sails in nice condition. Her exterior is in simply beautiful condition with newly painted cabin top, nonskid, and waterways, new hull windows, fresh varnish, and new plastic dorade box tops. 

Brise de Mer has taken her present owner from St. Michaels MD to the Exumas and back twice, and is presently being used as a daysailer and weekend cruiser.

BRISE DE MER sleeps five in two private cabins, she has two heads two showers and comes with an additional 2 berths in the salon.

Starting forward is the full beam master with queen berth to starboard and single to port.

There are curved aircraft style lockers outboard on each side, multiple drawers two hanging lockers as well as a writing desk with seating area .This cabin has two overhead hatches, two opening ports and deck prisms to help with lighting and ventilation.The master suite has an ensuite forward with seperate shower stall and twin opening hatches.

The spacious main salon has an oval settee and dining table with built in wine storage to starboard, to port is a full length settee and coffee table which can provide an additional berth while at sea, the coffee table can also be used as a seat at the dining table with the addition of a small cushion.

Windows in the hull offer excellent outside visibility while seated and additional over head opening hatches throughout the vessel provide ample fresh air.

 Aft of the salon is the extremely well equipped and well laid out galley featuring a full height fridge with vertical doors and a top loading freezer. also in the galley is a force ten three burner stove,

Aft of the salon on the port side is the well equipped nav station while inboard is the electrical panel and a raritan ice maker, easily accessible from the cockpit.

The aft cabin is accessed by one of the two passage ways from the galley or nav area, this aft cabin features a berth on both port and starboard with a seat between on center line. Plenty of lockers, drawers and closets adorn this cabin with ample amounts of opening port holes and large overhead opening deck hatch along with four opening portholes.

The ensuite head with shower is to port.

The yachts DC supply is 12 volts which comes from 8 heavy duty six volt house batteries which were new in 2021, these are wired to give a total capacity of 1000 amp hours.

Two separate 200 amp hour batteries are dedicated to engine and generator starting, both house and engine batteries are charged by twin 100 Amp balmar alternators as well as the option of a Trace 12 volt 100 Amp battery charger /invertor which can be run off the generator or shore power.

 The yachts AC electrical is 110 volt / 60 hz. This is supplied to the vessel by either two 50 Amp shore power cords, an 8 KW fischer panda generator or by a Xantrex 3000 W invertor new 2018  /charger run off the shore power, generator or batteries.

AC functions include but not limited to supplying and running the water heater, battery charger,refridgeration, electrical outlets, air conditioning, microwave and water maker etc.

The hull is molded FRPwith 3/4 inch airex foam core for added strength The centerboard is the same construction with a protective bronze shoe on the leading edge, it is filled with lead ballast to promote negative buoyancy, this centerboard is opertaed via a wire cable from the cockpit. The draft with the centerboard down is 11'4" and up is 5'6".

Fuel and water tanks are also molded fibreglass intergral to the hull along with the dedicated gas locker with overboard drain.

The deck is also one piece molded FRP with foam core as well.

The cockpit is large for a 53 footer with a walk through either side for easy access which saves climbing over the coaming, the steering pedastal houses a brand new array of engine instruments along with sail handling functions, deck winches are easily reached from the cockpit for single handed sailing. The cockpit also features a large teak table with two folding leaves to comfortably seat six.

Topsides are flag blue with double white boot stripes and a green bottom paint.

BRISE DE MER is a great example of Ted Hood's popular Little Harbor 53 series that boasts fine workmanship and a unique cockpit layout allowing one person to easily sail the vessel without leaving the cockpit. Her proven hull design features a generous beam which gives this vessel very commodious storage and living areas as well as an excellent seakeeping and stability offshore. Upwind performance is increased by her deep centerboard which increases her draft to 11'-4".

BRISE DE MER features a unique two cabin layout with a very large master forward with a VIP /Guest cabin aft, she has a relatively new engine, generator and sails. Her teak decks are still in great shape following a reconditioning a few years back.

Her interior is very nicely appointed in teak with solid teak and holly floorboards finished with satin varnish with gloss accents, the overhead consists of white removable Formica with teak battens, all lockers are lined with cedar and have automatic lights. All counter tops are Corian in the heads and galley, all others are teak, Shower floors are GRP with teak grates; nice touches like teak towel racks and toothbrush and soap holders are in the heads also. All the beds have canvas lee cloths, and there are copious amounts of book shelves and storage drawers throughout the interior. Blue Ultrasuede is the fabric of choice throughout the vessel, including the mast cover.

All tanks for water, fuel and holding are below the floorboards, along with all wiring and plumbing.

I've sailed a Brise de Mer 34 from Puerto Aysen to Corral (Chile) this year (18/02 to 23/02), almost 1000 nM. It was fun. It sails great on blue waters and F5 -F6 winds and large waves. Regards Alberto

That is my boat you were looking at. She is a 34' 1980 Bris de Mer. They sail like a demons when they have some rigging and the years of grime are removed. It is a welded aluminum hull. I have had a plan to fix her up, but life has been getting in the way. She was built in France and the original (and only other) owner put a wind vane on her and sailed her solo across the Atlantic and up through the Panama Canal. Atalante Owner
