superyacht in wellington today

Seasonal fluctuations of chartering yachts

The Mediterranean yacht charter season generally runs from April to October , with the peak months being July and August. During these months, demand is high, and prices tend to be at their highest. However, you can still find great deals during the shoulder months of May, June, September, and October. The weather and sailing conditions vary depending on the time of year, so make sure to do your research and choose the best time to suit your preferences and budget.

Additional expenses for chartering a yacht

Additional expenses such as fuel, food, beverages, and harbor fees can significantly impact your total cost. Most yacht charters operate on an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) basis, which means you will be charged a percentage of the charter fee (usually 20–30%) to cover these additional expenses. It's important to plan and budget for these costs to avoid any surprises.

Remember that tipping the crew is customary, so factor that into your budget as well. A general guideline is 10–15% of the total charter fee, depending on the quality of service.

Yacht charters can also offer optional extras such as water sports equipment, diving gear, or event planning services. These can add to the overall cost, so consider which optional features you'd like to include in your charter experience and inquire about their associated fees.

Choosing the perfect yacht for your Mediterranean vacation is an exciting step in the planning process. To find the ideal yacht for your needs, consider the following factors:

Budget : Determine how much you're willing to spend on your yacht charter experience. The cost to rent a yacht can vary significantly, from €140,000 per week for the Below Deck yachts to more affordable options from various yacht rental services.

Duration : Decide how long you'd like to charter the yacht and plan your itinerary accordingly. This will help you pick the most suitable yacht for your desired time frame.

Guests : Assess the number of guests joining your trip. Ensure the yacht you choose can accommodate everyone comfortably.

Amenities : Consider the type of amenities you'd like on board. These may include gym equipment, watersports equipment, or spa facilities. Make sure the yacht provides the amenities you need for an enjoyable time.

Now that you have an idea of what you're looking for in a yacht, follow these steps to book your Mediterranean yacht experience:

Step 1: Research yacht charter agencies

Start by researching reputable yacht charter agencies, like CharterWorld or Northrop & Johnson . Browse their websites to see the different yachts and itineraries available.

Step 2: Contact a yacht charter broker

Step 3: Select your yacht

Choose the yacht that best suits your preferences, budget, and availability. Ensure the yacht is available during your desired dates and confirm the details of the rental agreement.

As well as the pool, the sundeck also boasts a large alfresco dining arrangement, a variety of sunloungers and a barbecue.

Outdoor barbecue

The Wellington is one of the few Below Deck yachts to feature an alfresco barbecue grill on deck. We're keeping our fingers crossed that new chef Kiko Lorran will be putting it to the test and whipping some gourmet delights on the barbecue.

Written by Rachael Steele

For the fifth season of hit TV series Below Deck , the luxury yacht was bigger and more luxurious than ever before: 56.2m/184.5ft motor yacht THE WELLESLEY was named THE WELLINGTON on the show, and here is the tour through her cabins and cigar room right up to the sundeck – almost as good as being there yourself!

The Interiors

Built in 1993 by Oceanco , she received and extensive refit in 2016 that refreshed her appearance inside and out. Luxurious marbles are used across the decks, accompanied by plush leather furnishings and impeccable joinery in a range of high quality wood varieties.

The formal dining room is separate from the main salon for a more intimate dining experience between guests. A high-glass circular table sits in the centre of the room and the seating arrangement can be altered for up to 12 guests.

The inviting main salon is one of the first areas guests and visitors will encounter: Velvet sofas and armchairs form a cosy conversation area at the centre of the room, surrounded by mahogany panelling and top notch technology for entertaining day or night. Lighting plays an important part in the ambiance, and in addition to the numerous ceiling spotlights there are table lamps that fit seamlessly with the art deco-inspired surroundings.

What would be the skylounge aboard most vessels is the cigar room aboard this superyacht! Situated on the upper deck aft, famous cigar smokers of the past century adorn the walls of this distinctive gentleman’s lounge. An entire wall cabinet is dedicated to vintage cigars and a choice whiskeys accompanied by crystal glasses. Overstuffed leather armchairs are placed in the centre of the room and the widescreen TV for the latest sports and a large library of films. A desk in the corner lets the room be used as an office by charter guests who need to keep an eye on business matters.

The Exteriors

The main deck aft is unusual in providing a raised aft area extensively furnished with sofas, armchairs and drinks tables for outdoor relaxation in the sunshine or shade. Steps lead down to the grand alfresco dining area, and a staircase leads to the lower deck and the beach club in the stern.

Working out on the aft deck

The upper deck aft is fitted with a massive sunbathing area along the stern that can be covered by a bimini shade for use throughout the day. Farther forward, the seating arrangement provides comfort and great views as guests unwind with drinks and savour the fresh air.

Those looking for the Jacuzzi will find it on the sundeck forward, surrounded by plush sunpads on both sides. Guests can soak up the sunshine on the sun loungers along the stern too, while the expert chef prepares a delectable lunch and cocktails are served from the wet bar.

The Accommodation

The accommodation is placed across the decks, with a Master suite on the upper deck benefiting from elevated views. White panelling and mahogany woods add to the sense of space and elegance with a simple and clean appearance. The room has an abundance of space for a king-sized bed and a lounge in front of a massive widescreen TV, and the en-suite bathroom is just as opulent with marble floors and wall panels.

Guest cabin

The twin cabin aft of the Master suite is the only cabin on board not to have its own sofa, although it does have large plush beds and its own en-suite.

Since the 2016 refit, the main deck forward has changed from an observation room to become the second VIP suite. Here the occupants have a gorgeous light-filled space thanks to the skylight panels arranged in a semi-circular formation, and at night these can be left open for stargazing or covered for complete privacy.

Master suite

The lower deck has the original VIP stateroom amidships and this highly desirable cabin is more the equivalent of a second Master suite: The full beam affords an abundance of space with a king-sized bed at its centre, a wall-mounted widescreen TV, a lounge to starboard and a desk to port. The en-suite bathroom has a bathtub in addition to a shower, and it connects through to the walk-in-wardrobe, which in turn leads back into the bedroom.

A double and twin en-suite cabin are also placed on this deck and both provide a generous amount of space with a sofa and widescreen TV for relaxing in comfort at the end of a busy day.

Additional Benefits

The collection of water toys onboard is vast, encompassing everything from high-speed jet skis and Seabobs aboard this Approved RYA Water Sports Centre, to Scuba diving equipment and inflatable and towable toys. The water slide will be a hit with guests of all ages, and when the group wants to stay on board there is a range of gym equipment including yoga mats for exercise, fresh air and panoramic views.

Among the crew there are trained jet ski instructors and a professional massage therapist, so guests can spend the morning learning how to use the water toys and exploring along the coast before returning to a delectable lunch and an afternoon of sunbathing and treatments.

Billionaire Richard Branson’s cruise ship spotted in Wellington harbour

Richard Branson's cruise ship Resilient Lady sails into Wellington.

Billionaire Richard Branson’s cruise ship is sailing into Wellington this morning, after a rough day in Napier.

Resilient Lady, a 2,700-passenger, adults-only cruise ship, was spotted in the harbour this morning sailing towards the capital.

The ship left Napier earlier in the week after its stop-off was blighted by power outages in Napier’s CBD caused by a cable fault.

More than 200 properties were affected by the power cut.

Virgin Voyages, which runs the Resilient Lady and her sister - Brilliant Lady - has struggled with delays and cancellations to sailings of both ships, citing “global issues”.

Resilient Lady sails into Wellington.

The newest ship, Brilliant Lady , was due to sail from Miami on her maiden voyage in December last year but cancelled its sailings saying that the launch had run into unexpected issues in staffing and building.

“Despite careful planning, Virgin Voyages is facing unexpected construction, supply chain and staffing challenges that have delayed the introduction of Brilliant Lady. Virgin Voyages wants to make sure that when the ship launches, it can deliver the standards its sailors have come to expect from an award-winning brand like Virgin Voyages.”

The cruise line said it would offer any affected guests between $500 and $1000 in onboard credit or the option of a full refund.

‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ Features Mega-Yacht, ‘The Wellington,’ Complete With Insanely Pricey Sheets

Google Follow

Ahead of the show’s season premiere, Captain Sandy Yawn from Below Deck Mediterranean gave a tour of what guests would expect from the new yacht, The Wellington. Bravo highlighted the various amenities available on the large vessel.

The yacht, based in Mallorca, Spain, was just over 184 feet long. It’s the longest vessel Sandy had ever captained and more massive than any other boat featured on Below Deck .

The main saloon features blue and cream-colored couches and mahogany furniture, creating a serene but cozy vibe. The fixtures were made of gold and added a regal touch.

Through the saloon, guests could enter the Cigar Room. The wood-paneled room has a large humidor and full leather seating.

“They spared no expense,” Captain Sandy said in the video when she discussed the extensive collection of cigars and whiskeys that filled the room.

The vast master suite features inlaid leather in the walls and mahogany wood and was decorated with a 1920s theme. Unique to the suite was a proper dressing area with large “his” and “her” closets. One sheet from the bed reportedly cost 2,000 euros.

Besides the extensive living quarters, the area for the captain was also pretty decadent. The helm comes with multiple screens, an emergency backup steering wheel, as well as a separate spot, “The Wing Station” to assist the captain when she attempts to dock. This allows the captain to view where she would be parking the mega-yacht from that space.

It’s likely that people wouldn’t want to merely stay inside during their stay on The Wellington. Many would probably plan to spend their time enjoying the beautiful vistas of Spain or out on the water. This ship has several water toys to keep their guests entertained. There are several jet skis, SEABOBS, a jellyfish pool, water slides, a jet surfer, and even a trampoline. The deck also has a complete workout area with weights, yoga mats, and jump ropes.

For those that choose not to be active, the sundeck offers plenty to do. The entire back of the boat includes cushions, creating a massive space to comfortably lie out and enjoy the sun. Even the hot tub is fancy on The Wellington, as it has a waterfall designed in it, with the water carefully cascading over swimmers.

Season 5 of Below Deck Mediterranean is set to return on June 1. Captain Sandy will be coming back, along with Malia White as the bosun and Hannah Ferrier as the chief stewardess.

Reverie by Winch Design for Oceanco

Oceanco has a well-earned reputation for building some of the largest and most recognizable superyachts in the world. But as I’ve learned during visits to their main shipyard in The Netherlands, and at various boat shows around the world, the Oceanco team is always looking for innovative new ways to design and build their special breed of superyachts.

So, I was intrigued when I saw Oceanco had launched its Simply Custom program that’s specifically designed to streamline the process of designing and building an 80-meter (262ft) yacht. Since 80 meters is the “sweet spot” for lots of new superyachts in build these days, I was hardly surprised to see their innovative new program focus on the 80-meter range.

But what did surprise me was just how “holistic” the Simply Custom program is because they’re introducing way more than just another new superyacht design. They’ve also partnered with Lateral Naval Architects and numerous other firms to design a state-of-the-art technical platform that’s ready to build today, while also being flexible enough to upgrade and modify as new breakthroughs in propulsion and other key areas come on line in the future

Clarity by Espen Oino International

“We created Simply Custom because we saw there was a growing demand to build custom yachts in a new way. Owners still want the very best quality in their yachts, and to have something designed and built just for them. But many have less desire to focus on every detail in the process. They expect to entrust technical matters to experts like Oceanco and our partners. And, perhaps most importantly, they want building a yacht to be simple and fun,” explains Oceanco’s Group Marketing Director, Paris Baloumis.

Trump Clinches Republican Nomination

‘the chosen’ season 4 gets disappointing streaming update due to legal issues, 10-foot-tall monolith appears in wales—what we know about the mysterious object.

But I have to be honest, Oceanco’s ability to have all of the world’s best yacht designers submit their vison for what the ultimate 80-meter superyacht might be the coolest thing of all. Here are just a few designs from Oceanco’s ultimate superyacht wish list !

Espen Øino International

Espen Oino International's submission in Oceanco's Simply Custom program.

Espen Øino explains the thinking behind his firm’s submission they call Clarity . “When asked to participate in designing a yacht for Oceanco’s Simply Custom Collection, my team and I were inspired by one word: SIMPLE! What does simple mean? To solve a problem in an efficient, elegant, and smart way.

“Inspired by this definition, we went off to solve some challenges in a simple yet smart way. The yacht features very large overhangs in the superstructure to provide shade and to reduce the heat gain inside the vessel on the decks below. The excess surfaces above we used for photovoltaic cells.

The gloriously simple main deck onboard Espen Oino International's submission to Oceanco's Simply ... [+] Custom program.

“The main deck lounge is designed as a large winter garden, which can be opened to make use of the wind as natural ventilation. The overall objective being to reduce the onboard energy consumption and increase the renewable part of the onboard energy production. The extensive use of large shaded exterior spaces reflects our vision of enjoying life at sea and the outdoors.”

Nuvolari Lenard

Domino by Nuvolari Lenard yacht design

Domino pays homage to the decades of experience that Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard have gathered along their award-winning careers at Nuvolari Lenard in Venice. An elegant simplicity is displayed the sweeping bow all the way to the graceful aft staircases that flank the swimming pool on the main deck. The curvaceous decks and glass bulwarks also give Domino a distinctive look.

Domino by Nuvolari Lenard

“We believe Domino represents the state of the art, in terms of beauty and functionality,” says Dan Lenard. “While also offering an owner a starting point from which to create a yacht that is perfectly suited to an owner.”

Aurai Simply Custom 80 meter by Bozca

Timur Bozca describes his design like this. “An embodiment of two worlds merging, Aurai is named after ‘nymphs of breezes’ in Greek mythology. Its exceptional exterior is influenced by the lines of a swordfish – an expression of strength – that is softened by the fluidity of natural forms, evoking a balance between power and grace.

“At every step, our focus has been on creating an experience that transcends the ordinary. Aurai doesn’t just navigate the waves, it dances with them; offering a symphony of luxury, innovation and connection to the sea.

Aurai by Bozca at night

“The visionary hull is divided into two halves, not only adding an element of intrigue but also elevating performance. The superstructure is elegantly sleek, marrying seamlessly with the hull for a harmonious and striking profile. Moving inward, the beach club serves as a testament to our commitment to immersive experiences. Every detail, from sand-like stairs to miniature gardens, captures the essence of a coastal haven. Dynamic structural elements pay homage to the ever-changing contours of the shoreline, inviting a sense of movement even when anchored.”

Winch Design

Reverie by Winch Design for Oceanco's Simply Custom program

“Our duty as a designer is to bring purpose, inspiration and innovation in our solutions to clients’ dreams,” says Jim Dixon of Winch Design . “Gazing from our Thames-side studio, we see the beauty of a ‘slipper’ launch and the nature of the pebbled water’s edge, which came together as Reverie .

Reverie by Winch Design for Oceanco Simply Custom

“Simple references form lasting impressions and strong, pure concepts; this is the Winch approach.”

Superleggera 80m by Hot Lab for Oceanco Simply Custom

Superleggera 80, is the aptly named design from Italian design studio Hot Lab because its sexy and elegant lines are reminiscent of a 1960s automobile. While the architectural elements of glass, natural light and space provide a perfect connection between the interior and exterior of the yacht.

Superleggera 80m by Hot Lab for Oceanco Simply Custom program

“At Hot Lab, we understand that today’s clients place higher value on how a space connects them to such deeper emotions, rather than simply serving a practical function,” says Antonio Romano.“ This is seen in the colossal 5m height of the Superleggera 80’s main deck atrium and the clean, sweeping lines of the yacht’s aft as the floor flows past the infinity-effect pool and glazed bulwark to the swim platform beneath in one uninterrupted curve.”

“Custom building is a core part of our DNA,” says Oceanco CEO Marcel Onkenhout. “We will always create yachts that are uniquely tailored to each owner. And we see Simply Custom as a logical development for Oceanco, sitting alongside our fully custom yachts and Life Cycle Support refit service, which will always be a part of our offering. The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive, and we have experienced a definite appetite for this new way of buying an Oceanco in an approachable, fun and streamlined way,”

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5: Here’s what you need to know about The Wellington yacht

Below Deck Med Season 5 yacht The Wellington is the biggest ever on the show.

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5 is ready to set sail. The hit Bravo show features a new superyacht, The Wellington, and it is going to give a new set of challenges to the crew this season.

Captain Sandy Yawn gave viewers a glimpse at the vessel — which is the largest yacht to be featured on any of the Below Deck franchises — via The Daily Dish . It is an 84.5-foot luxury yacht built in 1993, with a massive renovation done in 2016. Even the bridge where the captain navigates her way is top-notch.

The interior

Captain Sandy kicks off the tour by letting fans know that the yacht is docked in Mallorca, Spain – the beautiful location chosen for Below Deck Med Season 5.

The main salon is gorgeous, with two plush couches, plush chairs, and even a giant flat-screen TV for guests’ entertainment. There is a modern yet comfortable and livable vibe about the spacious main area.

Captain Sandy shared that she has both her pre-charter meeting and tip meetings in the main salon because it is so spacious.

Right off the main salon is the cigar room. It is the first one ever to be featured on the Bravo show too. There is an entire wall dedicated to the finest cigars, choice whiskeys, and best scotches around. Another wall features portraits of some of the most famous cigar smokers ever – like Winston Churchill.

Next up is the beautiful indoor dining area. It is not that large of a space. There is a big circle table in the middle, making the room luxurious and cozy at the same time.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CAxvrXcgCmy/

The guest area features a VIP suite with a massive television and a glass ceiling that will make guests feel like they are sleeping under the stars. All cabins, including the master suite, have a refurbished mahogany décor.

Last but not least, is the crew area. The quarters are nice but also standard for a yacht. It is going to be close quarters for sure.

The exterior

The exterior of The Wellington is just as fabulous as the interior, with the main aft deck being the first thing guests see when venturing outside.

Then there is the massive upper deck for guests and the crew to enjoy sunbathing or lounging with drinks. The lounge and sun area have cushions to ensure charter guests are comfortable at all times.

The deck also includes a waterfall-equipped jacuzzi and a grill.

There are plenty of toys for the guests to enjoy this season too. Captain Sandy showed off the area where the toys are stored. Bosun Malia White joined her in the area to share that the boat has a slide, a trampoline, jet ski’s, SEABOBs, scuba diving equipment, and a jellyfish pool.

Anyone who boards The Wellington during Below Deck Med Season 5 will be amazed by the luxury accommodations.

Below Deck Mediterranean premieres on Monday, June 1 at 9/8c on Bravo.

How Wellington is growing: Related Cos. gets chance to turn K-Park into 'downtown area'

Related companies is the builder behind the square in west palm beach. will a k-park project lead to redeveloping the mall at wellington green.

superyacht in wellington today

WELLINGTON — The village will entertain an offer by the Related Cos., the developer behind The Square in West Palm Beach , to transform the 70-acre K-Park site into the downtown Wellington has never had.

Kevin Ryan, a Related representative, told the village council the international company's plans for the site at Stribling Way and State Road 7 include a private K-12 school and a walkable mixed-use district that would feature 500 residences and up to 120,000 square feet of retail space.

The project could be the village's first step toward developing its "urban core" between State Road 7 and Forest Hill Boulevard, an area dominated by the Mall at Wellington Green .

“What Wellington is missing is Wellington's version of an urban experience,” said Ryan, who has worked 27 years as an executive developer for Related. “The core principle of our project is to make a residential, shopping and dining destination.”

The council voted 3-2 on Feb. 13 in favor of continuing talks with Related and having the village staff work with the company to create a proposal for K-Park for the council to consider after the March 19 election, when voters will choose a new mayor and two new members.

The plan would be for Related to buy the K-Park site, but those details will be part of the negotiations between the developer and the village.

By proceeding with Related, Wellington turned down an offer by W & W VIII LLC , owned by village resident Jim Ward. It had proposed to buy K-Park for $54 million to build a mixed-use development on the entire 70-acre property.

Council member John McGovern said the proposal by Related offered an opportunity of bringing a premier private school to Wellington. He added the project could lead to the redevelopment of the aging mall.

“We would be remiss in having the opportunity to continue the discussion with Related about how we leverage this property and vis-a-vis the mall." McGovern said. "Because that is the challenge of our future.”

How Wellington is growing: Mark Bellissimo's team gets final council approval for new horse showgrounds

Village Mayor Anne Gerig and council member Michael Napoleone opposed talking exclusively with Related. Both said they liked the proposal but would prefer the village create a plan for the site with all the elements it needs before starting negotiations with any developer.

“This is property we own,” said Gerwig, who will leave office at the end of March. “I wanted us to have the plan and to bring it out to some great developer. We haven't gotten there.”

Council member Michael Drahos, who also is leaving the council, said he thought the board had wasted time waiting for The Mall at Wellington Green to be redeveloped before considering plans for K-Park.

“At this point, my outgoing thoughts to the new leadership would be to not wait on the mall anymore,” Drahos said. “These opportunities are coming about now. We have an excellent brand that has come to us.”

March 19 Wellington election: What you need to know about the races for mayor, Village Council

What is K-Park and why is it so valuable to Wellington?

K-Park is the largest undeveloped property along Wellington's State Road 7, making it one of the most coveted pieces of real estate in the village.

The village purchased the 70-acre site in 2003 for $8.5 million from the family of former Palm Beach County Engineer Herb Kahlert, from whose name the site takes its name.

Since then, the property has attracted builders who have proposed K-Park be used for senior living, a Palm Beach State College campus, a research innovation center, a horse park and mixed-use projects. Previous councils have ultimately decided to leave it undeveloped.

Wellington has leased the property to Aldemar Farms since 2010 for an annual price of $55,000.

In 2015 residents said in village workshops they didn't want K-Park to be sold and preferred it be used for recreational uses. Those who favored development on the site said it should have entertainment and dining options.

Study: K-Park 'catalyst site' for Wellington's State Road 7 'urban corridor'

The Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council published a study last year that envisions transforming Wellington’s State Road 7 into an urban corridor .

It recommended converting the 90-acre Mall at Wellington Green property into a dense, walkable district teeming with residences, shops and restaurants, as well as a light-rail station connecting Palm Beach County's western suburbs with West Palm Beach .

The study identified K-Park as a “catalyst redevelopment site" for State Road 7 and the mall.

The K-Park property is contiguous to the mall and together, they total about 150 acres. The land has the potential to be the home of a downtown-type area with housing, office spaces, a concentration of retail and food service, and a shared central civic space that would provide a new identity for Wellington, the study found.

Related's CEO: Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is dominant developer who doesn't take no for an answer

What is Related Companies proposing for K-Park?

Related Cos. was founded and is run by Stephen Ross , the owner of the NFL's Miami Dolphins.

Kenneth Himmel, the CEO of Related Co., told council members during a workshop meeting in February the company has extensive experience building mixed-use projects such as The Square in West Palm Beach, The 78 in Chicago and Related Santa Clara in California.

Himmel said Wellington would benefit from having a walkable downtown that mixes shops, restaurants, entertainment and housing for its residents to gather. Such an area can attract new families to the village, he said.

"This is an incredible opportunity for people who are officed in West Palm Beach but want the beautiful bedroom community with lifestyle attributes to live in Wellington," Himmel said.

The company's project for K-Park includes placing a private K-12 school on half of the 70-acre property and a mixed-use district on the remaining land. Ryan told council members bringing the private school — to date, unidentified — was the company's top priority because it would interest families in the area.

Ryan said the development would feature up to 120,000 square feet of commercial space and 500 multifamily residences to create the density that would attract regional and local tenants and ensure their long-term success. He added the project would also include workforce housing. He did not specify an amount.

The downtown would feature a central main street with low-rise buildings with businesses on the first floor and apartments above. It would be organized around a "village square" that would feature public art, interactive fountains and strolling areas.

Townhomes spread over two- to three-story buildings would be placed along the northern and southern edges of the property. The urban district would include parks, bike trails, and even pickleball courts, Ryan said.

Three council members support move to negotiate with Related on K-Park

Drahos said during the Feb. 13 meeting that nine years ago, Wellington residents had supported turning K-Park into a park with a botanical garden, but things had changed since then. He said Wellington is set to receive 55 acres along Forest Hill Boulevard from Wellington Lifestyle Partners that would be home to a central park for the village.

"When we had those Town Hall meetings in 2015, we did not have a 55-acre North Course on Forest Hill," Drahos said. "I feel like the information, the data, the considerations that our residents took, is now outdated."

McGovern and Drahos said Related had the experience and partners necessary to create a successful mixed-use development similar to The Square. They added the project had the potential to speed up the redevelopment of the mall, whose property value has dropped by 80% since 2018 and whose design and surrounding parking lots are considered outdated.

Drahos said the proposal would also bring Wellington something it doesn't have: a “top-notch" private school.

"Related offers not only the brand but features that are unique," Drahos said.

Mayor wanted Wellington to create K-Park plan before choosing developer

Gerwig agreed the Related plan was solid but said the village was doing the process backward.

“We are asking developers to come to us with a plan, instead of us deciding what we want on our property,” she said.

Gerwig told Himmel during the February workshop meeting that the Mall at Wellington Green and its surroundings lacked office spaces that would bring jobs and foot traffic to the shopping center. She added the development in K-Park should foster a "work-live-play" environment.

"What would make our (mall) function better would be office space, an employment center," Gerwig said. "I don't want to just be the parking lot for West Palm Beach."

Napoleone, a candidate for mayor in the March 19 election, voted against the motion to continue talks exclusively with Related because he wanted to study all the possible options for the site.

Napoleone said Related’s proposal had the potential to bring the walkable dining and entertainment district that village residents want but had also "missed the mark in many ways."

"People want a downtown dining entertainment district, but they also want a green space," Napoleone said. "You can make a project work with both of those components to it, because you create a central town square with green space area, dining and shopping and other uses around it for families to gather."

The big day has arrived, and Wellington editor Joel MacManus is in the room as council votes on the city’s District Plan.

Today, Wellington city councillors are introducing a series of amendments to the plan, rewriting it it line-by-line. Any councillor can introduce an amendment, and each one will be voted on individually. Housing minister Chris Bishop will have the final say on either accepting a council amendment or keeping the relevant panel recommendation.

As reported by yours truly this morning, we already know what every single proposed amendment will be, so it’s just a case of whether or not they are voted through.

I’m here in the Wellington City Council chambers on The Terrace, live blogging every moment as it happens, with some handy notes for those catching up. To watch along, the meeting is being livestreamed below.

Here's Your First Look at the New 'Below Deck Med' Yacht!

Jun. 5 2020, Updated 1:07 p.m. ET

Our favorite Bravo show, Below Deck Mediterranean , is back for Season 5! Once again, the maritime reality show is making big waves, this time because the show will be taking place aboard the biggest boat in the series’ history.

Captain Sandy , Chief Stewardess Hannah Ferrier and Season 2 alum Malia White are back for another wild charter season, this time sailing around the beach resort town of Mallorca, Spain.

Keep reading to learn more about the Wellington, “by far the biggest vessel [Sandy’s] ever run," which is currently docked on a Mallorca pier.

Check out The Wellington, 'Below Deck Mediterranean's newest yacht.

The Wellesley , which will be known as The Wellington on the beloved Bravo show , is a 184.5 ft luxury yacht built in 1993 that had a major refitting in 2016, which included a seven-meter extension.

The boat is a great option for large families or corporate charters, and includes numerous lounging areas, interior and exterior dining capabilities, as well as a number of amenities like an extensive collection of water toys, a jacuzzi, sauna, gym equipment, bar, and barbecue.

The main salon boasts wood and marble interiors designed by well-known interior stylists Donald Starkey and Dennis Irvine, with plush leather furnishings that give it a refined appearance. Captain Sandy said that she would do her “pre-charter meeting[s] and…[her] tip meeting[s]” there during the charter season.

The main deck even includes a cigar room!

Just when you thought you knew luxury, Below Deck goes and ups your standards. Right off the main salon, The Wellington also offers a wood-paneled cigar room which audiences have not yet seen on a Below Deck yacht before, complete with a cabinet of fine whiskeys and scotches.

"Obviously, they spared no expense when it comes to this," Sandy says. "This owner really loves his cigars and his whiskey.” With an entire wall cabinet dedicated to vintage cigars, choice whiskeys and crystal tumblers, guests can enjoy their cigars in the company of other famous cigar smokers like Winston Churchill and Che Guevara, whose portraits hang from the walls.

Past the salon is the master cabin, with refurbished mahogany bedrooms fitted with sheets by Italian luxury linen company, Pratesi, whose sheets go for around €2,000. That’s almost $2,200!

Even more impressive is the VIP suite, which has a panoramic glass windows that allow guests to enjoy the night sky as they sail the Mediterranean seas.

The Wellington’s exteriors are equally luxe.

The luxury continues as you step outside on to the Wellington’s main deck aft, of course. On the upper deck is a massive sunbathing area along with plush seating for guests to enjoy the view and unwind with drinks. The deck also features a waterfall-equipped jacuzzi and a grill where the yacht’s chef can prepare a table-side lunch.

So kewl! Explore "The Wellington" as seen in S5 of #BelowDeckMed https://t.co/BT12fTfNnz — Captain Sandy Yawn (@CaptSandyYawn) May 1, 2020

Toys aboard the Wellington include the high-speed jet skis, Seabobs, scuba diving equipment, inflatable toys, and of course, a water slide. In case any of the guests aren’t keen on the water, the boat also has a range of gym equipment to keep active and enjoy some ground-based exercises.

And if anyone doesn’t feel like water sports or gymming, this season’s crew will also include a professional massage therapist for those looking to get some soothing treatments.

Take a very cool 3D tour of the mind-blowing Wellington to see all the luxurious details up close. Catch new episodes of Below Deck Sailing on Monday at 8 p.m. ET with Season 5 of Below Deck Mediterranean premiering in Summer 2020.

Yacht Charter in Wellington

Wellington yacht charter

Boasting a magnificent harbor, Wellington is surrounded by gently rolling hills and a rugged coastline, home to numerous pristine sandy beaches. Close to the prolific wine regions, the thriving native forests and the unspoiled Hutt River, this marvelous landscape serves as a splendid backdrop for every outdoor sport or pursuit of pleasure. Wellington is a city full of youthful energy and cultural vitality that is sure to make its way in the very near future, but for now, it is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the unbridled taste of the luminous beauty that New Zealand has to offer.

Why charter a yacht in Wellington?

If you haven’t already visited New Zealand, you probably will have heard about its natural beauty, friendly people, and lifestyle. The great outdoors is right on your doorstep and locals, and visitors alike take advantage of the multiple opportunities to enjoy the benefits of an abundance of wild nature. This includes sailing and yacht charter in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand.

Wellington is situated at the South Western tip of the North Island and looks on to the Cook Strait, named after Captain Cook, that separates the North and South Island of New Zealand. Wellington enjoys a temperate maritime climate, but it is the world's windiest city by average wind speed. With a combination of history, people, and place, what better situation could you imagine for a private yacht charter holiday.

What are yacht charter prices in Wellington?

A skipper chartered yacht for a three-hour charter will cost around 300 USD. Don't forget to check the New Zealand Dollar conversion rate. Chartering a large speed boat with capacity for a large party for you and your friends will cost around $2,000 per day. There are also options for about $150 per person if you just want an exciting day trip. There are many exceptional sailing and power catamarans available to charter for a day trip around Wellington starting from $1,500 for 6 people.

There are off-season prices available, and some private yacht charterers in Wellington will only offer a minimum charter of three days in high season; this can be extended to five days. What does this tell you? Private yacht charter in Wellington is popular, and there is a lot to do and see if you spend a week or more on a charter yacht from Wellington. New Zealand is quite a long flight from most other countries, so plan to spend several weeks on your holiday there and at least a week of that for a private charter yacht.

When is the yachting season in Wellington?

The yacht charter season in New Zealand is all year round, however, if you prefer the warmer months then book your private yacht charter in Wellington between September and April. The Port Nicholson Regatta offers an action-packed weekend on and off the water. Then there is the Lawson's Dry Hills Charity Cup Invitation Race. It's an amazing opportunity for entrants to participate in a short race for a Charity Cup. Why not turn your yacht charter into a racing holiday. Race against a host of international, skilled sailors and turn your yacht charter into a winning holiday.

Wellington yacht charter for a day

Wellington Harbour can present safety issues if the weather conditions are poor. Try picking "weather windows" 1-3 day calm periods as the weather system changes from prevailing Northerly to Southerly or vice-versa. Set sail from the Chaffers Marina or the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club and head East passing Oriental Bay, which is the inner city, golden sand swimming beach. You can sail past Evans Bay and then bear South to follow the coast around Seatoun and on towards Ward Island.

Anchor off Ward Island for lunch. Then onward towards Somes Island. This used to be a POW camp in WWII and later a quarantine facility for animals and is open to day-trippers. The whole island is a Conservation Area, and there are strict regulations controlling access. You can walk up to the top and get an amazing 360-degree view from the center of the harbour, looking straight down the Cook Strait. Somes Island bears East to Days Bay, a sheltered and top-rated swimming beach in summer. After a beautiful day onboard, take your yacht charter home to Wellington.

Wellington yacht charter overnight

Put together an overnight itinerary that will get you when and where you want, plus the reward of waking up at dawn on the water. Formerly known as Arapawa Island, Arapaoa is a small island located in the Marlborough Sounds. It is a good overnight yacht charter destination at the Northeast tip of the South Island of New Zealand. Sail in the wake of Captain Cook, who, from a hill on Arapaoa Island in 1770, first saw the sea passage from the Pacific Ocean to the Tasman Sea.

Arapaoa Island is renowned for the breeds of pigs, sheep, and goats found only on the island. You can also decide to disembark on the small Brothers Islands, which lie off the northeast coast of Arapaoa. It is a sanctuary for the rare kind of tuatara which can be easily spotted throughout. Leave a line out overnight and wake up with some fresh fish for breakfast in the morning before you up anchor and head back to Wellington.

Wellington yacht charter for a week

The nearest real cruising grounds to Wellington are the Marlborough Sounds at the top of the South Island, and it is spectacular! There are three marinas in this area, and you can even take a ferry from Wellington to Picton and start your yacht charter there or at Waikawa. Good weather conditions are critical if you want to enjoy your yacht charter for a week, so check ahead for the weather conditions. We recommend heading to Tory Channel first.

Once in Tory Channel, there are multiple bays where you could anchor if needed. Most bays have some sort of private house or lodge available for rent in summer. One is Resolution Bay, a quiet little town popular with summer tourists and a few reasonable restaurants and bars with supermarkets for provisions. Waikawa has an active sailing scene. If you are doing a yacht charter for a week from Wellington, you will end up with five days in the Sounds. Therefore you could make your way down Tory Channel, stopping overnight, until you reach Waikawa Marina, then head back to Wellington.
