Symmetry: The double-headed superyacht from Sinot

  • Superyachts

Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design has revealed its latest concept, a double-headed superyacht that was developed in partnership with BMT Nigel Gee

For many people, the bow is the most beautiful part of boat design, as the proud, knife-like prow cuts through the water – so what if your superyacht had two of them?

That’s the idea behind the latest concept from Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, which is named Symmetry (for pretty obvious reasons).

Unveiled at last month’s Monaco Yacht Show , the 180m design was described as “the next step in high-end megayacht design”.

Despite the obvious loss off beam at the stern (wherever that is) Symmetry would still boast 1,000 m 2 of deck space and enough accommodation for 34 guests and 48 crew.

And before you go thinking this is just some pie-in-the-sky drawing, we should mention that it was developed with renowned British naval architects BMT Nigel Gee, who have confirmed the concept’s technical feasibility.

Sander Sinot, the designer of Symmetry , said: “The yacht’s layout is created by symmetrically building up from the center, instead of using the traditional linear set up.

“The symmetrical shape of the hull allows for a bi-directional course at sea, tight maneuvers and pivoting.”

No guide price was given with the design, although its 180m length would make Symmetry the world’s joint-largest megayacht, alongside the £394m Azzam .

This revolutionary concept of a two-way maneuverable yacht has been designed from the inside, especially from the center of the ship, outwards, unlike traditional linear constructions. Her bold, upscale design offers numerous spaces around the 6 decks, each with a specific function and design. In all, 34 guests and 48 crew members can be accommodated on board.

Symmetry is based on harmony, not on formal symmetry, as the designer, Sander Sinot, explains: "Our goal was to create a synergistic balance of functionality, beauty, engineering and design. Symmetry reflects owner centered on a true philosophy of the yacht as a custom designed private domain, moving freely on the world's oceans, offering an abundance of space to accommodate loved ones to indulge, work, play and enjoy life."

In addition to its impressive length, its width of 29 m provides an impressive interior volume space of 18,000 gross tons and an exterior space of over 1,000 m2.

Finally, the owner's deck consists of an owner's bedroom, a private spa, an office, a library , a lounge open to the sky, but also an outdoor deck with a resting area and lounge chairs.

Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design developed a 3D model of the yacht and approached BMT naval architects Nigel Gee LTD, who confirmed the technical feasibility of the project. The vessel is designed to be steered by a set of Azipods at each end, allowing it to be extremely maneuverable, while going at a speed of 20 knots. A crew of 48 members will be in 30 cabins.

Unique features

Natural interior finishes seek to replicate the style of a seaside home. Includes many of Signot Yacht Design's signature circular elements. In addition, Symmetry offers an incredible skylight that extends from the upper deck to the main deck. In this space, there are two glass walkways that connect the upper foredeck and aft deck, allowing for unobstructed views down.

While all the luxurious features of a superyacht are present, there are some features that stand out in particular. On the owner's private upper deck, a 2-centimeter-deep pool of water surrounds the entire deck, creating a sort of island. The purpose is to blur the line between the end of the deck and the view of the sea on the horizon.

This concept of dual navigation âeuros forward and aft âeuros is an idea that has already been seen on other models such as Star Concept, a 132m superyacht, by Lobanov Design. It allows the owner to enjoy the sea view from either side of his private deck.

Pictures: Symmetry, the new 180m superyacht from Sinot

Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design has revealed its latest concept, a double-headed superyacht developed in partnership with BMT Nigel Gee. See the pictures here.

Concept: Symmetry

Dutch design studio Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design recently revealed their latest creation, the 180m concept Symmetry. The superyacht concept has been designed from the centre outward, resulting in a balanced and symmetrical appearance, hence the name.

Sander Sinot’s unique design allows for an unusual guest accommodation layout, one that has a capacity of carrying up to 34 guests in ultimate style and luxury.

Spread over six decks each one has been assigned and styled with a specific function in mind.

The beach deck features a large mid-ship lounge with seawater pool and float-in tender bay. The hotel deck above is where guests can unwind in style, with a selection of lounges, bars, a garden, gym and exterior swimming pool available.

A private owner’s deck is where the VIP guests can enjoy their private spa, office space, library and exclusive exterior deck with lounge seats and infinity water feature.

Sander Sinot, the designer of Symmetry, said: “The yacht’s layout is created by symmetrically building up from the centre, instead of using the traditional linear set up.

“The symmetrical shape of the hull allows for a bi-directional course at sea, tight manoeuvres and pivoting.”

British naval architects BMT Nigel Gee LTD supported the project by overseeing the naval architecture of the design, ensuring Symmetry will live up to her proposed steering characteristics.

The vessel is designed to be extremely manoeuvrable, while allowing for a top speed of 20 knots. A crew of 48 members will be living on board across 30 cabins.

At 180m, Symmetry would become the world’s joint-largest megayacht, alongside Roman Abramovich’s £394m vessel Azzam.

180M Superyacht By Symmetry Design Lives Up to Its Name

Superyacht-Symmetry-concept-side-view

A symmetrical yacht? One could be sailing the oceans within several years as Dutch studio Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design recently revealed its latest creation, the 180m superyacht Symmetry that features a bi-directional concept and design that flows from the center outwards. The balanced and symmetrical appearance allows for a unique maneuverability and safer tender operations with its beach club located amidships. And yes, it can cruise in either direction thanks to the engineering package developed by BMT Nigel Gee.

In keeping with the design concept, the actual center of the superyacht, is the area from which all design emanates, contrary to typical yacht design. Despite the emphasis on symmetry, the superyacht is not a literal interpretation of evenness.  Sander Sinot, design studio head, noted that the aim was to create a synergistic balance of functionality beauty, engineering and design.. The yacht is viewed like a private estate that moves over the world’s oceans and has abundant space to indulge, work, play and enjoy life.

The dual-bow nature of Symmetry means that there is no single aft or forward interior or exterior relaxation area. Each of the six decks has its role. For example, the Beach Deck features a welcoming lounge that becomes a seawater pool when hatches to the side open. It can double as a float-in tender bay. On the Guest Deck, a glass-bottomed pool sits amidships with four VIP suites flowing outward from this area. Each VIP suite has a balcony and lounge area. Symmetry has 12 additional staterooms for guests. The owner’s deck is devoted to a huge stateroom, complemented by an office, spa, library, indoor lounge and an al fresco lounge that includes an infinity water feature. All guests can use the spa, lounges, garden, pool and other features on Symmetry’s Hotel Deck. The Lower Deck features a cinema and kids’ playroom. Several decks have large, shaft-like open space overhead that rises straight to the upper deck.

Because of the dual bows, Symmetry’s wheelhouse features dual steering. An azipod propulsion package enhances maneuverability. Cruise speed is estimated at jut over 19 knows at 85% continuing rating, with maximum speed approximately 20 knots. She will accommodate a crew of 48.

The 29m beam provides Symmetry with enormous volumes, coming in at about 18,256 gross tones. She will comply with Passenger Yacht Code Regulations.

Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design presents SYMMETRY

At this year’s edition of the Monaco Yacht Show, Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design presented Symmetry, a bi-directional maneuverable concept yacht. Symmetry’s revolutionary design works from the center outwards, which has enormous advantages over a traditional linear set up. The strikingly spacious, well balanced and symmetrical built up is a showcase of the next step in megayacht design. Symmetry was the most developed, detailed and designed concept yacht presented at MYS 2015.

Symmetry: symmetrically built up from the center Symmetry’s unique layout transcends traditional boundaries in yacht design. To designer Sander Sinot of Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, the use of symmetry is a way to transform traditional yacht design: “The yacht’s layout is created by symmetrically building up from the center, instead of using the traditional linear set up. Functions on the decks are organized around the central void with an intuitive logic. The symmetrical shape of the hull allows for a bi-directional course at sea, tight maneuvers and pivoting, ensuring comfortable tender transfers on the lee side of the lower deck’s mid-ship Beach Lounge.”

Owner-centered philosophy Symmetry is based on harmony, not on formal symmetry. Sander Sinot: “It was our aim to create a synergetic balance of functionality, beauty, engineering and design. Symmetry reflects a genuine owner-centered philosophy of the yacht as a custom-designed private estate, moving freely over the world’s oceans, offering an abundance of space to welcome beloved ones to indulge, work, play and enjoy life.”

Space and balance Thanks to the symmetrical set up and the symmetrical shape of the hull, Symmetry can accommodate the owner and his guests in a way that is rarely shown in megayacht-design. Symmetry’s six decks and 180m length at a beam of 29m provides an interior space volume of over 18000 GT and an exterior deck space of over 1000m2. The yacht has a capacity of 34 guests and 48 crew. Every deck has a specific function and character. The Beach Deck with a mid-ship beach lounge featuring a seawater pool / float in tender bay; the Guest Deck with a spectacular mid-ship pool with a glass bottom, multiple spacious VIP rooms with en-suite lounges and balconies. The Hotel Deck contains many guest facilities such as an extensive spa, dining, lounges, bars, garden, gym and a 17m+ exterior pool. The Wheelhouse has dual steering arrangements to accommodate bi-directional maneuverability; the Lower Deck contains a home theatre and a kids’ playroom. And, last but not least, the Owner-Exclusive Deck where the owner state room, private spa, office, library, sky lounge and exterior deck with lounge seats and infinity water feature are located.

Technical feasibility Symmetry offers exciting new opportunities for the design of both interior and exterior. Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design developed a 3D model of the yacht and shared this with the naval architects of BMT Nigel Gee who delivered support in development and confirmed technical feasibility. Based on their detailed input, Sander Sinot and his design team further developed the 3D design of this both technically and aesthetically innovative project.

Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design Symmetry Concept is a Balanced Palace

sinot_exclusive_yacht_design_symmetry_concept_1

While many canoes and kayaks appear to be symmetrical when viewed from the side, almost all boats larger than that feature asymmetrical profiles. It’s not visually harmonious, but it’s been standard design practice for large boats for centuries. So why is Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design dumping that tradition in a very big – like 180 meters ( about 590 feet ) long – way?

sinot_exclusive_yacht_design_symmetry_concept_3

Well, the first reason (we assume) is because they can. The second is because they wanted to create a yacht – called the Symmetry Concept – that was just as adept at moving astern as it is ahead. As a result, the Sinot designers began their task not at the bow or the stern, but amidships, and worked their way out in both directions. Both ends feature a pointy prow and a prominent inward vertical rake, and the superstructure is also a perfect mirror image front-to-back. You’d really be hard pressed to tell if it’s coming or going.

sinot_exclusive_yacht_design_symmetry_concept_7

Of course, if you’re one of the up to 34 guests on board, you probably don’t care a whole lot about which direction the Symmetry Concept is travelling (though would we hope the 48 crew members do care about navigational matters). Across the six decks you’ll find such amenities as a quartet of pools (one indoor, two outdoor and another outdoor one that slides out of the tender bay and can be filled with seawater ), a gaggle of lavish VIP suites , a luxurious owner’s suite , a spa , a library , a home theater and a children’s playroom . Basically, it’s a floating palace…one that Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design would no doubt love to see get built. Any takers?

Symmetry: design from the centre out from Sander Sinot

SEYD Symmetry 3D view RGB

Her beautifully balanced design spaces and design make hera showcase for what the future holds and transcend the confines of traditional yacht design. In fact, Sander Sinot is vocal about using symmetry as a way of transforming traditional yacht design:

“The yacht’s layout was created symmetrically, starting from the centre rather than using the traditional linear development. The functions on the decks are organised around the central space with intuitive logic too.”

Thanks to this, the 180-metre Symmetry will not only span six decks and a 29-metre beam but have spectacular interior volumes and 1,000 square metres of open deck space.

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

yacht called symmetry

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

yacht called symmetry

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

yacht called symmetry

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

yacht called symmetry

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

yacht called symmetry

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

yacht called symmetry

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Restaurant-Yacht Chaika

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

Thank you for your feedback and invite you to have lunch or dinner again aboard the ship in an atmosphere of high standards of yacht hospitality.

everything was perfect - the food, the service, the desserts were the best, nice atmosphere and the location - magical

Best food, best view in Moscow. absolutely faultless from arrival to finish. Best risotto i had for many years absolutely perfectly cooked. The view on Ukrainian hotel and the white house by night is amazing

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Food is very expensive, very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.

I often visit this restaurant and must say it’s one of the best in Moscow in terms of quality and service. Staff really try hard to make sure that you are happy and satisfied. Customer service is a huge problem in Moscow but Chaika sets... a great example for others in the industry! Food is delicious and the menu has lots of options for everyone! Atmosphere is great and view is beautiful on the embankment. Special thanks to German & Oleg! More

Thank you for your feedback! Again aboard the yacht restaurant "Chaika" in accordance with the high standards of yacht hospitality.

Highly recommended, great location in the city center of Moscow with a superb atmosphere. Too many menu choices, though all delicious!

Thx a lot for your review! We are looking forward to see you in our restaurants.

Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More

Good afternoon! Thank you for your detailed feedback! We are looking forward to seeing you again, we are sure that you will be delighted with our dishes!

I've been here several times during two business trip in Moscow. The overall quality for both service and food is absolutely top-notch, plus the location is very unique.

Good location. Nice views. Good choice of food and drinks. European and Asian menu. Nice service. Pricey enough.
