FAQ - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

How long is each charter.

Scheduled day sail and sunset cruise are approximately 2-3 hours long. We ask that you board at least 15 minutes before departure. Depending on the weather your tour may be a bit longer or shorter.

DO YOU ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS AND CHECKS?

We do accept credit cards and checks, but cash is greatly appreciated!  You can book a trip through Nor'Banks Sailing and Watersports. Just follow our booking links. 

DO CHILDREN AND INFANTS COUNT AS A PASSENGER?

Yes, they do. The United States Coast Guard considers every person, except for the Captain, as a passenger.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

Nor’Banks Sailing and Watersports , 1314 Duck Road, Duck, NC 27949

We encourage you to carpool, bike or walk to our facility. Parking is tight as we must share with our partner businesses.

WHERE DO YOU SAIL?

We will sail in the Currituck Sound. A wide and long body of water with limited development.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR MY CRUISE?

Please arrive no later than 15 minutes before your cruise is scheduled to depart. If you’re running late, please contact us and let us know because we’re likely holding the entire boat for you.

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN WE ACCOMMODATE?

We have a capacity of up to 18 people on board, plus our 2 crew.

CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD/DRINKS/ALCOHOL?

Beer, white wine, etc is allowed.  No red wine allowed on board (stains the deck). No liquor please.

DO YOU HAVE FOOD/DRINKS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE ON BOARD?

Not at this time. But you are welcome to bring your own beer, wine, sodas, etc.  No red wine or hard liquor please. 

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

We love pets too, but others may not. Sorry, no pets allowed on board unless it is a licensed/certified service animal.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Spring and fall- layered clothing and a light jacket. Summer time- light clothes, shorts, sunglasses or a hat for the sun. We will ask you to leave your shoes at the dock.  Please no spray sunscreen.

DO YOU PROVIDE LIFE JACKETS?

We have life jackets on board for everyone- Infants, children and adults. They are not required to be used unless there is an emergency. If you feel you need to wear one, please ask the captain and one will be provided to you.

WHY MIGHT MY SAIL BE CANCELLED?

The most common reason a sail is cancelled is due to poor weather conditions that would make sailing uncomfortable and/or dangerous. We never enjoy canceling a sail, but if we must, we will call to inform our guests. We also encourage guests to call ahead the day of their sail to confirm their reservation and verify conditions. If this were to happen we would happily reschedule or refund your cruise.

WHAT HAPPENS SHOULD IT START RAINING DURING MY SAIL?

Sailors often get wet when they sail. We have a covered area on board, but also encourage you to bring a poncho or rain jacket if it is forecasted to rain.

CAN I PROPOSE MARRIAGE TO MY SWEETIE WHILE ON BOARD?

Yes! If you inform the captain of your plans, he can find you a quiet, isolated spot on the boat. Don’t forget the champagne!

DO YOU HAVE A BATHROOM ON BOARD?

We do, if it is urgent and you cannot wait. However, we encourage you to use the rest room prior to departure.

DO YOU OFFER GIFT CERTIFICATES?

Ask the mate or captain or contact us for more details.

SHOULD I TIP THE CAPTAIN AND CREW?

Yes. They work for tips.  Tips are personal and depend on how satisfied you are not only with the sailing experience that the captain has provided. Typical tip is 18-25% of your charter or ticket.

CAN WE SWIM FROM THE BOAT?

Swimming is allowed from the boat, please coordinate with the captain for this activity prior to taking off from the dock.

Breathe..... Then a day, a few hours, or a week or weekend spent with David and Anna and Kristen on Island Girl tours is for you. My time / trip on tour spent with them was not only exhilarating ....i just didnt need to think. Everything was handled ..included hiccups that can occur in day to day island lifee living. David just jumped in and saved the day and managed any unexpected situations and just took charge to make our visit to Pink sand beach and the Charlotte Bay day tour sooooo memorable. I think his real name is "Super David" ..he makes it look so easy and all my cousins and i needed to do was to rock back and enjoy and soak up the sun and the sand and the water and the drinks without a care in the world feeling totally safe and well fed...o m g ..that spiced roasted breadfruit and roasted fish they made!! Orgasmic! I really cant say more. It is an experience that needs to be experienced. Full heart and pride in all that was shown. All the history and information i never knew..all rolled into in big barrel of fun person and tour guide group ..who look like your typical superheroes and handle as such. On with it Island Girl! Please keep sharing your bliss ! A totally amazing experience for all we are all eternally grateful. !!

memories of Tobago we will never forget it was a blessing to meet David, see and experience Tobago thru his eyes. we were a group of 6, and David made it super easy to customize a 10 hour tour, and everyone in our group loved the tour. he picked us up at the hotel, reviewed the itinerary, and our adventure began. our goal was to see the the whole Island, visit Argyle Falls, go for a swim, have lunch at the Hummingbird sanctuary, and hopefully experience a few hidden gems too. well we certainly weren't disappointed, in terms of what we saw, and throughout the entire tour, David would share his knowledge with us, and answered all of our questions. the van was comfortable, it was well stocked with water and rum puncheon, and the lunch we had was Michelin star worthy, with hummingbirds flying by ..... throughout the day, David took pictures and videos, which he shared with us and next time we go to Tobago, or Trinidad, we can hopefully book another tour with David.

Dawn to Dusk chasing waterfalls in Tobago This tour was absolutely amazing. I requested a waterfall, nature, hiking tour and that's exactly what I got. David from Island Girl Tours was a wealth of knowledge and kept the tour very interesting and informative. Chased 6 waterfalls, had lunch with hummingbirds, walked in a mangrove and hiked through a lush green forest, ended my 12 hr day at the beach with a beautiful sunset. Food, snacks and drinks were all included on my tour and as a solo female traveller I felt very safe and secure. I would highly recommend touring with David aka (the best barefoot tour guide) from Island Girl Tours, I left Tobago with a full heart.

Experiencing Tobago with the Best Tour Guides From our first contact with David through the entire tour it was an amazing experience. David made sure to get details about our group and worked with us to make this a one of a kind experience. He provided details about the day and listened to our input on what we wanted to experience. As a bonus for the day we were joined by his lovely wife Anna and together they provided extensive details about Tobago from many different perspectives. We toured the Argyle waterfall as well as some smaller ones. We saw beautiful beaches and were able to get pictures in multiple places. As a special treat we had lunch in the rainforest surrounded by hummingbirds at Shurlands Nature Park. Great meal in amazing surroundings. David and Anna are excellent guides and they made us feel more like family than just some tourist. We give this tour 5+ stars.

Carter Reeves, Formerly of Aer, is Now Surfer Girl

Singer, songwriter & producer, Carter Reeves , found success at an early age when he began touring nationally as a teenager with his best-friend, David von Mering . Together they operated as a duo known as AER from 2010 – 2016. These days, Carter has found a new path under the name Surfer Girl with a debut album coming via Ineffable Records .

After Aer, Carter moved to Los Angeles from New England on a journey of self-discovery pursuing a solo career as Carter Reeves in search of finding his own voice. After a few years of little traction, the world came to a stop March 2020 when the global pandemic hit while Carter was in Maine. “March ‘20 was a dark time,” Carter recalls in an Interview on his website. “It was frigid on the coast of Southern Maine, the world had been turned upside down, and I had no positive future as a musician. Two weeks later, I had crafted the debut ‘Surfer Girl’ EP as a form of escapism.”

Carter then sent the EP to Ineffable Records who, after a few months, responded back with the positive news that they would put out his 5 song EP, starting with the debut single, “Hero,” on October 16th, 2020. The self-titled EP followed May 7th, 2021 and sometime during the summer of 2022, we’ll see Surfer Girl’s debut album courtesy of Ineffable.

In response to the name, “Surfer Girl,” Carter explains: “As a mediocre surfer, and not a girl, I need you to know that our name is a homage to all the rad surfer women out there in the world. First and foremost, I was inspired by my incredible girlfriend, but also by our shared love for the Beach Boys, and their song ‘Surfer Girl.’ Without Brian Wilson’s sweet sweet melodies, I wouldn’t be the musician I am today. Let’s not forget that at the end of the day, your local surfer girl is an icon. A badass, free spirited athlete who anyone and everyone can look up to. It’s a vibe.”

Ultimately, Carter concludes: “The idea came to a friend and me, that maybe it would be creatively liberating to make a body of work that wasn’t what ‘I thought people wanted to hear’ but was exactly what I wanted to make. I grew up religiously listening to Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. Combine that with the fact that in March 2020 I was exclusively listening to 50’s/60’s roots reggae, and you’ve got the inception of Surfer Girl.”

For Surfer Girl’s debut album, it’s expected to be 13 total tracks with guest appearances by Shwayze, Marcia Richards of The Skints, David New of The Hip Abduction, Jackson Whetherbee of The Elovaters , Little Stranger and more. Carter connected with the production duo of Left Coast Sound ( Jungle Josh & David Foral of Dirty Heads) on a new song, while also spending time with producer & songwriter extraordinaire Johnny Cosmic who helped drive home most of the written album with Carter in the studio over a few days.

While we await news on this highly anticipated debut album, you can find Surfer Girl music on any of your preferred streaming platforms as well as a recent guest appearance on Cydeways Sept 2021 single, “Take Flight.” We’ve also seen on social media that Carter himself has been working on music with Hirie , for Hirie, in Los Angeles and Hawaii.
