Her galley allows the cook to safely prepare meals at sea. Her berths can accommodate four in comfort. Her cutter rig provides almost limitless sail combinations for any wind condition. Singlehanded, a couple, or two couples- this boat fits all. They are a world class cruisers that can take you anywhere you desire to go. This classic Bill Crealock design is dry and comfortable offshore and nimble in protected waters. The Cabo Rico 34 will take you quickly and safely anywhere you want to go... and back again. This particular vessel has such a heritage, but is in need of attention.  She was purchased in 2009 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and is a USCG documented vessel. Over the next two years, she was transited via waypoint at Beaufort, SC to its homeport in New Bern. The transit included stretches as far as 125 miles offshore as well as a segment in the ICW. New Proposal sat in her slip for a first season in New Bern and in early 2014 was hauled out and placed on the hard to begin a refurbishment/refit. The owner did not undertake the refit, and she is available at a very low price.  View this as an "opportunity investment".

1977 Heritage West Indies 36 The "West Indies 36" was the culmination of Charlie Morgan's boat building and design experience in both cruising sailboats and racing yachts. The clean lines and graceful upswept bow makes this boat instantly recognizable and envied. A clean, functional, aft-cockpit gives good visibility and plenty of room for the helmsman and 4 or 5 guests. The classic wood-slatted opening to the saloon, below gives this vessel the look, feel, and function of a true blue-water cruiser. The clean decks and low profile cabin make for easy access to the mast, boom, and bow. All running rigging was replaced last year with race quality lines. The standing rigging was inspected and found to be in excellent condition last year also. The mainsail, the 120% jib and the spinnaker are also in good condition. Down below the cabin has plenty of headroom for a six-footer or more and the cabin layout lends itself to comfort and functionality. The generous use of teak throughout the salon, V-berth, and galley give the cabin a warm, rich glow hard to find in today's plastic boats. This is a very strong, well-built vessel that will last for many more decades. The auxiliary power is a Perkins 4-108 four cylinder diesel that has been lightly used despite the year of the boat. The shore powered HVAC unit makes this boat very comfortable when tied up at the dock. If you are looking for a very affordable offshore, blue-water, cruiser then this is your boat.

This is also a perfect "live aboard" yacht.  The Morgan OI 416 is a very comfortable vessel that is easily handled.  This bat has been expertly maintained and is in sail away condition.  These are the boats that defined "Island Cruising".  Charlie Morgan designed these boats to capture the island cruising market and he truly succeeded.  This particular boat is a fine example of a classic design that is well maintained.  If you are in the market for an OI 41, Surprize is a must see!

1976 Westsail 32

Make Westsail

1976 Westsail 32 The Westsail 32 has long been known as the consummate cruising boat for the long distance sailor. Solid and extremely sea-worthy, these boats are easily handled by a couple or by a singlehanded sailor. This is a classic Westsail 32 that is looking for a new owner. Just had all the canvas replaced last year and the cushion will be replaced and you can pick out the new material and color. The 30hp Yanmar diesel has less than 500 hours since a total rebuild. The Bow Sprit was completely rebuilt 3 years ago. The rigging was replaced about 5 years ago with all Norsman fittings The boat needs some cosmetic work and is priced accordingly.

New rules for whale protection could affect East North Carolina charters

I ncreased regulations designed to save endangered North Atlantic Right Whales from being hit by boats could have a huge impact on charter businesses here in Eastern North Carolina. Members of the NC Congressional Delegation are coming out against the new regulations.

"North Atlantic Right Whale Vessel Strike Reduction Rule has been around since 2008. The amendments were originally proposed in 2022, and the rule in effect since 2008. In essence, it puts a speed limit on how fast boats can travel in certain areas offshore for boats 65' or longer. NOAA has proposed three major changes to the current rule that will impact smaller boats too.

The amendment would essentially enforce a speed zone across the entire East Coast. Along North Carolina's coast, boats 35 feet or longer would not be allowed to travel more than 10 knots until they get more than 90 miles offshore. The speed limit would be in place from November 1 - April 30 every year. NOAA says the updates to the rule are "essential to stabilize the ongoing right whale population decline and prevent the species' extinction."

Thomas Wood | Captain, Dancin' Outlaw says, "Main thing is, we're not hitting whales. that's a missed number. First of all, you really don't want to hit a whale. We don't want to kill a whale and we don't want to sink the boat."

There have been five lethal right whale strikes from boats less than 65' long since 2008. The North Atlantic Right Whale is one of the world's most endangered large whales, with only around 360 remaining, and fewer than 70 females that can reproduce. Multiple charter owners and captains in Morehead City are ringing the alarm bell these changes could bring. Only travelling 10 knots would double the time it took to get out into the ocean, and they say it could be detrimental to the business.

Ashley Bleau | Owner, Sensation says, "Obviously it would cut down on the amount of time we'd be able to fish. We'd have to leave earlier, come back later, and a lot of consumers have an 11-hour tour on average to go out. Adding another five hours to that, it's a lot less like people would go out for a 16-hour tour vs. an 11-hour tour."

The Carolina Princess is a 95-footer that's been dealing with the Right Whale Vessel Strike Reduction Rule since it was implemented in 2008, and owner Terrell Gould says while customers get used to it, the changes seem to be a little extreme.

Terrell Gould | Owner, Carolina Princess says, "For me, it's 30-45 minutes longer each way. which is a downside there. The upside is I'm saving on fuel doing it, and it cuts down on fishing time for my customers, which is another downside. I can't really agree to cutting a 35-footer down to 10 knots. 15 knots, fine. they're a lot more maneuverable than anything else."

Multiple captains told me it wouldn't just affect the charters, but every other business in Morehead City.

"It's not just affecting us, the tackle shops selling tackle, the bait they're gonna miss out on selling. So, there's a whole lot of things that the boating industry, it's a hit that it just uh, I don't think we can really afford."

Eastern Carolina's congressional delegation joined other East Coast delegates in writing a letter opposing the amendments. Congressman Greg Murphy says, "This rule could put more than 810,000 American jobs and nearly $230 billion in economic activity in jeopardy. This rule is ridiculous in every way and will have a profound downstream effect on the livelihoods of my constituents.”

News 12 reached out to NOAA for clarification on these new amendments. We have not heard back yet. 

'Wicked Tuna' star Charlie Griffin found dead with dog in North Carolina's Outer Banks

After days of searching in the ocean for a missing boat, authorities confirmed that a person and a dog were found dead off the coast of North Carolina .

The victims, found near the Oregon Inlet, were confirmed to be well-known star of the reality-TV series "Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks" Charlie Griffin and his dog Leila by friends and family.

"It is with the deepest sadness we report that Charlie Griffin and his beloved dog, Leila, have passed away in a boating accident today, March 4th," the Facebook post read. "Please keep family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. We will forever remember Griff!"

During the search, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that they found the body of a person and a dog close to the Oregon Inlet.

"[The U.S. Coast Guard] conducting search for overdue boaters between Nags Head and Rodanthe, North Carolina," The U.S, Coast Guard Mid-Atlantic wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. "During search efforts 1 person and dog found deceased approx. 2 miles south of Oregon Inlet. Search continues for missing person."

In an updated post on March 5, the organization said it resumed its search efforts for the missing person with the help of the National Park Service, but the search was suspended the following day.

'Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks' a reality TV show for boating and tuna lovers

Beginning in 2014, "Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks" went on various voyages with captains as they sailed to capture tuna along the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

During the competition, captains would try to catch as much tuna fish as they could in order to win a cash prize. One tuna could be worth more than $20,000. Weather conditions, treacherous waters and intense rivalries all unfolded in the 60 minute episodes that followed the journeys through the "graveyard of the Atlantic," according to the National Geographic .

On the show Griffin and his son Jake teamed up to catch fish. Together both of them worked to win money in order to support their family. The partnership led to the naming of their vessel, "Reels of Fortune," according to a YouTube post on the National Geographic page.

Social media reacts to Capt. Griffin's death

In a touching post, Dare County Commissioner Steve House pays tribute to Capt. Griffin.

"A very sad day for our fishing community. Capt. Charlie Griffin has passed away from a boating accident at Oregon Inlet. His humor and knowledge will be sadly missed. He helped make the OBX even more famous with his time on Wicked Tuna OBX," House wrote in a Facebook post . "Tight lines and fair seas my friend."

Griffin is remembered a fun, and sweet guy who's life was cut short.

"Super sad news, a sweet heart of a guy and one heck of a fisherman Charlie Griffin has been taken from us way too soon," the Facebook page Corolla Beach Idiots wrote in their post . "Some of you may know him from OBX Wicked Tuna, some of us new him as a giving good guy.. He will be missed by all who knew him.. Prayers to his Family especially his son Jake.. RIP my friend!!"

After hearing of Griffin's death, fans are all posting a simple message, "Rest In Peace."
