Onboard Toilet Use

Believe it or not, the onboard toilet use is one of the priorities when it comes to behavior on a sailing yacht. Yacht toilets are relatively small and uncomfortable. And their flushing system and outlet are quite complex and sometimes even problematic.

How Does A Yacht Toilet Work?

How to use onboard toilet.

Most of sailing yachts offered for charter provide manual toilet flushing systems. They are quite reliable , but still one has to be careful when using it. Beside every manual flushing toilet, you can easily spot a handle. It is usually on the right hand side from the lavatory seat. The handle is to be used for flushing the toilet, but there is one trick before you start doing it. There is a switch just above the handle. It has two positions. Right-hand side position of the switch is so-called ‘stand-by mode’. In that position the water intake valve is not working, making the toilet safe from clogging. When you are done with what you were doing, switch it to the left-hand side position. By doing that, the water intake valve is open, allowing seawater into the lavatory.

Cyclades_39_3_toilet

Start pumping vigorously and you will see the water filling the lavatory and covering the results of your previous action. At the same time, the entire content of the lavatory will start getting out of it. After you pumped it for about ten to 12 times, put the switch in the right-hand side position and repeat the pumping. Now, you will support outlet without pumping in additional water. Repeat the complete action (both sides of the switch) for at least three times. Have in mind that outlet hose is quite long and curvy, so it takes more effort and pressure to flush the yacht toilet completely than you might think. When you think there was enough pumping, do the sequence one more time, just in case.

What If Onboard Toilet gets Clogged?

The only material which can be in the lavatory is one processed by your body plus the toilet paper. Make sure that you do not throw too much toilet paper at a time. Do not forget that clogged onboard toilet is much greater trouble than you think. Not only it is very complex and unpleasant to clear it up, but you could also easily be fined for a clogged sailboat toilet.

Cyclades 50.5 Interior Toilet

One might think that electric boat toilets are better and more comfortable solution. On the contrary, electric sailboat toilets are even more complicated than the manual ones. They use two pumps (one for water intake and one for outlet) and spinning knife system. Throwing toilet paper in electric toilets is absolutely forbidden because it gets stuck around knives by default. That means that you should install extra bag for used toilet paper in the toilet and change it daily.

On the other hand, pushing electric boat toilet too much can easily kill the pumps which is something that you want to avoid. Not every electric boat toilet uses seawater for flushing, so ask about the system while doing a check-in. In case your boat toilets use fresh water, you should know from which water tank, so you can control the water consumption precisely. Think twice before you decide to use onboard toilet, it is not ‘a piece of cake’.

The third flushing system I have seen in use on the yacht so far is the vacuum flushing system . It seems to be the most efficient, but it is much more expensive than the two systems, so one can see it only on exclusive and very luxurious yachts.

Where Does Toilet Waste Go On A Boat?

Once we solved the technique to flush the boat toilets, we should think about where all the sailboat toilet contents go. Classic flushing system considers direct outlet to the sea. It means that flushing the toilet is not recommendable when staying in the calm bay, especially when someone is enjoying a swim around the boat. You should also try to avoid it when moored at a marina – use public facilities . Recently made yachts have waste tanks. Still, not all toilets are connected to them, so make sure that you ask about toilet installations during a technical check-in procedure.

Make sure that you empty waste tanks on the daily basis or whenever you think it is necessary. Again, you do not do it neither on the anchor nor at the marina. Do it underway, far from the coast. The brimming waste tank might burst or even explode. I believe I do not have to explain what it means.

Going for a sailing trip is quite a project, so is the visit to the toilet on board a sailing yacht. General advice would be to use onshore facilities whenever it is possible.

I wish you calm seas, fair winds and a strong mast!

I bought a small boat that is not equipped with onboard toilet, I was thinking of designing a toilet seat that holds a compostable bag under the lid, the bag is then tied up and placed in the household garbage for the day, and then into the refuse bin at the marina. Would this be a problem? Thanks

Background

How does a marine toilet really work?

Peculiar topic but extremely practical. if you've already been on a boat, you know what we're talking about.

by Francesco Gambini

Let's dig into one of the most undiscussed yet essential parts of the boat: the toilet. How does it work and how it should be used?

A boat's toilet doesn't look substantially different from a domestic one. It's slightly smaller with a porcelain bowl and a seat. Due to the limited space, it is usually used while seated. If you choose to spend a few weeks on a sailing boat, it is essential to be familiar with it.

Yacht rental with skipper: Book your dream holiday today!

The main feature of a boat's toilet is that it flushes directly into the water. As it is below the boat's surface, there's a hole in the hull through which its contents have to be pumped out.

This operation may be a little scary the first time, but it is not difficult at all. Knowing what to do can avoid causing damage to your boat: it is a rather delicate piece of equipment, if not used correctly. Nautical toilets have a pump, electric or manual, and a diverter tap that manages and directs the flow. Basically, after use, you'll flush the contents of the bowl outside while continuing to flush the bowl.

Some rules of etiquette

For safety reasons, the diameter of the pipes is smaller than that of domestic pipes, which is why it is essential to use the toilet only for its intended purpose . There is a small external container for toilet paper. My personal recommendation is to be careful not to throw bigger objects or small pieces of food inadvertently.

How to operate the marine toilet pump

In the case of a manual pump, this involves repeatedly moving a piston back and forth via a knob, while in the case of an electric pump, this function is carried out by an electric motor. There are also automatic electric toilets where these operations, including the pump flow diverter, are handled automatically for an experience of use similar to that of ships or planes.

Consider that an electric toilet is relatively noisy, so at night I suggest, if possible, using a boat toilet equipped with a manual pump model.

If the pump is a bit hard, you can lubricate it without dismantling anything by pouring a little oil into the bowl and then pumping.

I recommend, for example, t he oil from a tin of tuna which is ideal for this purpose.

The holding tank

More and more boats are being equipped with a holding tank to hold the toilet to avoid direct discharge into the sea. A holding tank has multiple benefits. With it, you'll be able to use the boat's toilet while:

  • in a harbor where it would otherwise be wrong to discharge (the water has a limited circulation and would be irreparably contaminated)
  • on a roadstead, so your crew can continue enjoying their swim undisturbed
  • in the proximity of nature reserves where discharge into the sea is prohibited

Keep in mind that on a boat equipped with several toilets, not all have a black water tank; it is usually located near the toilet, inside some cabinet, and has a volume of about 40 liters, so check which toilets are equipped and behave accordingly.

Sometimes, particularly in hot weather, it can give off unpleasant odours: to avoid this, first of all, remember to keep it empty as much as possible, emptying it as soon as possible and with the contents significantly diluted, and washing it by pumping empty seawater from the bowl could help. For more stubborn cases, it is generally fitted with an opening with a plug on the deck, similar to taking on water, through which hot water can be introduced to facilitate the operation. It can also be emptied through this hole in the port using a machine that sucks out the contents (in the few ports which are equipped with one).

5 of the best superyacht bathrooms

Lady christine.

Of course prolific yacht owner Lord Irvine Laidlaw – winner of the Legacy Award during the World Superyacht Awards 2015 – will have one of the best superyacht bathrooms. Case in point, the lushly appointed bathroom in his Feadship superyacht Lady Christine , which even features a marble surrounded shower stall.

Baglietto 46

The bathroom in the Baglietto 46 metre superyacht, the new breed of displacement yachts from Baglietto , has a ultra-chic bathroom that might give you double vision. With double everything – sinks, stalls, etc. – it's an ideal en suite for two. The clean, minimalist design makes it one of the best superyacht bathrooms we've seen.

The exquisite use of wood on Dunia Baru , a traditional Phinisi style charter yacht operating in Indonesia, makes this one of the best superyacht bathrooms. It feels like a superyacht spa oasis stepping into this natural wood decorated retreat.

Feadship superyacht Como , now renamed Lady May , has one of the best guest superyacht bathrooms around. What makes this bathroom so clever is how she stretches across the beam of the yacht – a rarity on a guest bathroom – and further makes excellent use of the space of allotted with white materials, glass enclosures and lots of mirrors to make the en suite feel even larger.

The CRN superyacht Saramour , launched in 2014, has one of the best superyacht bathrooms due to its very cool shower. Placed in the centre of the room, the shower is entirely enclosed by glass, and the door cleverly pivots open to give access. For those who favour privacy, it might not be the ideal en suite design, but this bathroom racks up major cool points in our book.

We’ll also look into maintenance and care, and answer some of the most common questions about them.

So, let’s get started on our journey to discovering how yacht toilets work!.

Table of Contents

Short Answer

Yacht toilets typically use either a manual system or an electric system.

The manual system uses a foot pump to flush the toilet, while the electric system usually uses a switch to turn on a pump that will flush the toilet.

Wastewater is discharged through a seacock and out of the hull.

Some toilets are equipped with macerating pumps, which grind up waste and allow for a smaller diameter pipe to be used to discharge the wastewater.

Overview of Yacht Toilets

Yacht toilets are designed to be used in boats and other water vessels, and work in a similar way to regular home toilets.

As such, they are specialized marine sanitation devices that are constructed to handle different weather conditions and be able to withstand the movement of the water.

Yacht toilets use a vacuum-type system that pumps the waste into a holding tank, which is then emptied when the yacht is docked.

The tanks are also equipped with a macerator to break down solid waste, preventing clogs.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Yacht Toilets

When it comes to choosing a yacht toilet, there are a few factors that should be taken into consideration.

First, the type of waste system the yacht will be using should be considered.

Vacuum-type systems are the most popular choice for yachts, but some vessels may be better-suited for a different type of waste system.

Additionally, the size and number of passengers the yacht will be carrying should be taken into account.

Larger vessels will require larger toilets, while smaller vessels may be able to get away with smaller toilets.

The location of the toilet should also be taken into account, as this will determine how easy it is to access the toilet.

For example, a toilet located in the stern of the yacht may be more difficult to access than one located in the middle of the vessel.

Additionally, the type of water the yacht will be travelling in should be taken into account, as different types of water may require different types of toilets.

Freshwater toilets are typically used in freshwater, while saltwater toilets are used in saltwater.

Finally, the quality of the toilet should be taken into account.

Yacht toilets are designed to withstand the movement of the water, but some may be more robust than others.

Higher-quality toilets are typically more expensive, but may be worth the investment if they are able to withstand the wear and tear of being on the open water.

Overall, there are a few factors to consider when choosing a yacht toilet.

The type of waste system, size of the vessel, location of the toilet, type of water, and quality of the toilet should all be taken into account when making a decision.

Proper boat toilet care: Essential tips for a clean and responsible environment

Taking care of the toilet on a boat is essential to ensure a comfortable and hygienic environment for everyone on board, as well as to protect the marine ecosystem. Here are some important steps to follow:

Regular cleaning: Regularly clean the toilet and surrounding area using marine-friendly cleaning products. This prevents odors, stains, and the buildup of bacteria.

Avoid harsh chemicals: Use only marine-approved and biodegradable cleaning products to avoid harming the marine environment. Harsh chemicals can damage the toilet system and harm aquatic life.

Monitor tank levels: Keep an eye on the waste tank levels and ensure they don't exceed capacity. Overfilling can lead to leaks and unpleasant odors. Dispose of waste at designated pump-out stations.

Flush only appropriate items: Educate everyone on board about what can and cannot be flushed. Only human waste and marine-grade toilet paper should be flushed. Avoid flushing items like sanitary products, wipes, and paper towels.

Proper ventilation: Ensure that the toilet area is properly ventilated to prevent moisture buildup and reduce odors. Proper ventilation also helps prevent the growth of mold and mildew.

Check seals and connections: Regularly inspect seals, connections, and hoses for leaks. A leak can lead to foul odors and potential water damage.

Use enzyme treatments: Consider using marine-safe enzyme treatments to break down waste and control odors in the holding tank. These treatments help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria in the tank.

Pump-out regularly: Schedule regular pump-outs of the waste tank at designated pump-out stations. Avoid discharging waste directly into the water, as it can harm marine life and water quality.

Winterization: If the boat will be stored during colder months, make sure to properly winterize the toilet system to prevent freezing and damage.

Educate guests: Inform guests and passengers about the proper usage of the toilet and the importance of responsible waste disposal. Provide clear instructions on flushing only human waste and marine toilet paper.

Emergency kit: Keep an emergency kit on board with spare parts, tools, and repair materials in case of unexpected issues.

Respect no-discharge zones: Be aware of no-discharge zones where it is illegal to discharge waste into the water. Always follow local regulations and use pump-out facilities.

Taking care of the toilet on a boat is not only a matter of personal comfort but also a responsibility towards the environment. By following these guidelines, you can ensure a pleasant and eco-friendly boating experience for yourself and others.

Types Of Toilets On Boats

Marine toilets can be a great way to take care of business while out on the water.

While on a boat, toilets are often referred to as a “head.” Some boats come with a portable head, and others even have a fixed head.

There are a few different types of marine heads that you can get equipped on a boat.

1) Self-Contained Porta-Pottys:

A self-contained porta-potty is ideal for smaller boats. With this option, you will have to empty the small tank yourself, but you might be able to use a pump-out station at certain harbors or campgrounds.

These are often cheap and small and are ideal for small daily recreational boats. You can implement this system for less than $150.00.

You will want to make sure you have with these boats a space for privacy while using it.

Often, pontoon boats will have an area that can convert into a changing area that will provide all the privacy needed for a small portable head. Other boats might have Cuddy cabins or other privacy options.

2) Fixed Plumbing Systems:

Some boats have fixed plumbing systems that come with tanks. These are generally more expensive and can cost around $1,000.00.

This is a similar system to the portable head but is instead fixed into the boat. This will likely require a system to pump the tank but can take a lot of the work and stress out of using a marine bathroom.

When a head is fixed into the vessel, it is often incorporated into a private space. This reduces the need to find or create a private space for your bathroom.

3) Complex Treatment Systems:

These systems are also called “pump-through” systems.

Pump-through systems are made to filter and treat raw sewage.

These systems are more expensive but can reduce the need for cleaning or pumping the system. This system is built into the boat and treats sewage to pump right through the system and be let out overboard.

You will also need to make sure that if anything goes wrong with this system, you enlist a trained professional to help repair your system.

These systems are often only used on liveaboard vessels because of their expense. Other systems are better for recreational boats that are intended to be used less often.

If you plan to buy a used boat with this system, you will want to make sure it was properly maintained and works properly before you buy it.

10 Boats That Come With A Toilet (A.K.A “A Head):

One of the most popular boat types that features a bathroom is a pontoon. The size and layout of pontoon boats allow for a built-in private head.

Pontoon boats are also great for adding bathrooms to yourself. With a curtain and a portable toilet, you can create your own inexpensive onboard bathroom.

Boats that feature a cuddy cabin are also ideal to have bathrooms onboard. You can often store portable toilets under the cushions, and the cabin offers the privacy needed to use it.

Center console fishing boats also offer cabins with plenty of living space that includes onboard bathrooms. These boats are small, but they use the space they do have wisely and practically.

Sailboats also often come with cabins that feature bathrooms and other livable features. Often there are sleeping areas, bathrooms, dining areas, and other luxuries that make a living on board a sailboat possible.

Even if you do not plan to live aboard your vessel, you can comfortably take long sailing adventures in the comforts provided.

Sailing trips can often take days, and you want to make sure you have everything required to stay on your boat for the time needed.

Yachts are the largest and most luxurious option of watercraft that includes a bathroom.

This does not mean that they are all over big. Yachts can be as small as 40 feet and also include plenty of space and luxury.

This boat also offers a galley with full equipment, electricity hookups, and plenty of entertainment.

With this vessel, you would be able to travel by water to vacation destinations without worrying about the cost of booking a hotel or campsite.

Why Do You Need A Head Onboard?

There are many reasons that it’s a good idea to have a head onboard your vessel.

Kids are unpredictable and often have to use the bathroom . You will want to make sure that you are prepared for anything that they can throw at you.

These instances can be unpredictable and hard to deal with if there is not a standard bathroom around.

This problem can become easier to deal with if your boat has a bathroom right on it.

Even with the proper planning, both children and adults may need to use the restroom while onboard. Having a bathroom on board can take out the anxiety of boating with families .

Even though this issue happens most often with small children, this issue doesn’t just apply to children and can happen to anyone.

Long Trips or Large Bodies of Water:

If you are traveling on a large body of water, or you are on a long journey, having a head-on board might be your only option to relieve yourself.

Suppose you are traveling on a large body of water like the ocean or a large lake you might not have landed nearby that you can stop at.  Even if there is land near, you might not be able to utilize a bathroom.

One example of this might be while traveling downriver. Just because there is land nearby, most of the river’s structures will likely be private residential homes instead of public areas.

If you plan to camp on your boat, you might also benefit from a bathroom onboard. This will help make it so that you do not have to leave your vessel every time you need to go.

This can include having to steer the boat back to shore every time you need to go. This can be very time-consuming and irritating. Especially at night while you are asleep.

If you are not camping at a dock or a marina, a bathroom on board can be necessary.

A bathroom on board can make it easier and more relaxing than having to worry about always having a bathroom nearby or getting to it.

Possible Medical Issues:

It is also possible that you might have a family member with medical issues that require the use of a bathroom.

If you have one on your boat, they will be more comfortable when otherwise they might not be able to come out on the water with you.

Purchasing A Head For Your Vessel:

If you already have a vessel that doesn’t offer a toilet, you can still purchase one.

Portable toilets are ideal for current boat owners who want a bathroom onboard. These are also ideal for pontoon boats that don’t have a bathroom built-in or cuddy cabin boats that have space for a portable toilet.

If you go with the portable toilet option, you will likely want to invest in a privacy curtain and other bathroom amenities.

These curtains can be fixed to biminis or other large structures that are featured on your boat. Some are even able to stand up all on their own.

Some of these options can include:

Camco Portable Travel Toilet:

Camco makes a portable toilet that is perfect for a boat. It has a 5.3-gallon tank for wastewater and a 2.5-gallon tank for fresh water.

This tank is easy to move and store. It is 11.5 pounds when it is empty. The freshwater tank helps to flush the toilet.

The waste tank is easy to clean and has a removable cap in the back to assist with emptying the toiled.

This toilet also comes with a sealing slide valve that locks in odors and protects your toilet from leakage.

This toilet sells for around $76.00.

Palm Springs Portable Toilet:

The Palm Springs portable toilet is a nice and lightweight toilet perfect for use onboard a boat. This toilet has a 3-gallon freshwater tank and a 5-gallon waste tank.

This toilet flushes by releasing freshwater from the fresh water tank while simultaneously releasing the waste.

This toilet also has leak prevention and is made very durable. It also has a handle that makes it easier to transport the toilet on and off your vessel.

This toilet is also reasonably priced at around $75.00.

Final Thoughts:

Having a head onboard your vessel can be an ideal situation no matter what you use your recreational boat for.

Having to use the bathroom happens to us all. Without having a head onboard, you might be forced to motor your vessel back to the dock or walk to shore whenever you need to use the facilities.

This can be a massive inconvenience and can put a damper on a fun day out on the water, especially if you end up having to make multiple trips.

With less than $100.oo, you can fix your onboard bathroom issues with a portable toilet.

If you are searching for a new boat, you can also make sure to look for one with a built-in bathroom system. These are often more expensive but can be a lot less work.

Make sure you know how to use your system, clean your system, and that your system is in proper working condition before you purchase the vessel.

While shopping for a boat, you will want to seriously consider your options and choose the type of head and set up that is right for you and your planned activities while out on the water.

Actress Dolly De Leon was surprised she got the lead in 'Triangle of Sadness'

NPR's A Martinez speaks with Filipina actor Dolly De Leon about her role in the widely acclaimed movie: Triangle of Sadness .

A MARTÍNEZ, HOST:

Filipina actor Dolly De Leon got one of her biggest ever parts in the widely acclaimed movie "Triangle of Sadness." She plays Abigail, a cleaning lady on a luxury cruise who takes orders from Paula, the head of crew. When a shipwreck occurs, Abigail's status dramatically changes as she rises to captain. The 53-year-old De Leon isn't widely known outside of the Philippines, and she told me she never expected to be cast in this leading role.

DOLLY DE LEON: I really suck at doing auditions, so in fact, even a Filipino director pointed that out to me and told me that you're living proof that not everyone does well at auditions. So that was in my head. And when I got the call to audition for this film, I was in a state of, yeah, I'm not going to get this, you know? I mean, but I'll try my luck. Let's see what happens.

MARTÍNEZ: Why do you suck at auditions?

DE LEON: I get too nervous. Yeah, and, you know, my ego takes over, and I'm just thinking of, OK, I have to get this part, you know? So what happens is I'm too focused on trying to get the part that I lose sight of what I'm supposed to do in the scene. So, you know, the whole idea of wanting to get the part gets in the way of telling the story of the character.

MARTÍNEZ: So what did you do different in this audition that wound up getting you the role of Abigail in "Triangle of Sadness"?

DE LEON: I just went there and played around. That's really what I did. And because I was just playing around, that's what Ruben saw.

MARTÍNEZ: And Ruben's the director - Ruben Ostlund. Yeah.

DE LEON: Ruben Ostlund is the director and the writer. He saw how Abigail can be played. And he told me that actually, that he saw how playful I attacked her character - because if you read her on paper, she's very serious, straight to the point, very stereotypical. But I played around with her a lot in that audition because I went in thinking in my head, I'm not going to get this, but I'm going to have fun with it because I love to perform anyway.

MARTÍNEZ: And you got it.

DE LEON: Yeah.

MARTÍNEZ: You got Abigail.

MARTÍNEZ: So tell us about Abigail, the cleaning manager on a luxury cruise on a luxury yacht. Actually, you're called the toilet manager - that's the name that was used in the film - definitely not treated equally with the passengers that are on the ship. Set the scene for us.

DE LEON: OK. So, Abigail - she's a toilet manager. First of all, a toilet manager - that's all they do. They just clean the bathrooms - right? - the toilet. They don't really interact with the passengers. And the passengers are billionaires, social media influencers, basically very rich people, very powerful, influential people. But she does not interact with any of them. She just cleans the toilet. So that says a lot about her character because she has no kind of social interaction with them. Therefore, she's able to build a thicker wall between herself and these people. And that makes for a really rich interpretation when she ends up on the island with them, and she needs to have a social interaction with them.

MARTÍNEZ: And I can imagine that from the perspective of the passengers, the very rich and powerful people that are on the ship, someone in your position with your job on that ship is not even seen, right? I mean, if they even see you at all, they don't acknowledge you ever.

DE LEON: Exactly. And that's exactly how Ruben wanted it. He wanted Abigail, in part two, to be invisible, for no one to notice her so that when she comes in part three, they're surprised by her presence and they're like, where'd she come from? Because that's exactly the point. When these powerful people get into a hotel or a shop maybe, or a yacht or a ship, they don't really see the people who are working there because they just take them as, oh, these are people who are just doing their jobs. That immediately sends a message that we're invisible.

MARTÍNEZ: Yeah. And the movie is set up so we know that you're on this very expensive ship with a lot of rich and powerful people that all of a sudden deals with a lot of disaster. All of a sudden you're on an island - an isolated, it seems at the time, island, and the social order is turned completely on its head once the setting shifts there. Let's listen to a piece.

(SOUNDBITE OF FILM, "TRIANGLE OF SADNESS")

DE LEON: (As Abigail) Who am I?

VICKI BERLIN: (As Paula) You're the toilet manager.

DE LEON: (As Abigail) No. On the yacht, toilet manager - here, captain. Who am I?

DE LEON: Prior to this scene, she's in the boat. They find the boat, they knock on the boat, and they take all her food away from her and her water. And that's the transition right there. It happens right there in that scene where she's still compliant. She still takes orders from Paula, who is the purser of the yacht. But then that gets her to think that these people are frivolous. They're not practical thinkers. They're going to finish up all the food supply, and we're all going to die. And true enough, when she gives out the food, they chug it - and the water, they drink it all up like it's nothing without thinking of what's going to happen tomorrow, because they don't know how to save. They don't know how to, you know, reserve resources. But she does. So that's the transition point of where she decides, OK, you don't know how to manage yourselves. I'm in charge now.

MARTÍNEZ: Carl and Yaya are two social media influencers that are on this ship and now shipwrecked on this island with you. And they're very beautiful. Both of them are very beautiful people. And the dynamic shifts in terms of like, what exactly does beauty buy you?

DE LEON: Beauty is a commodity. It's really valuable. And when you're stuck on an island, you would think that maybe it may be a little useless, right? But in this case, Carl's beauty had some use to Abigail because she has needs. She's a woman, you know. I mean, she has sexuality and women as they age - especially at her age, she's at her peak. So, well, he was lucky that she had that need, right?

So it's quite sad, actually, if you think about it, that everything in this world is really based on how we look. Carl was able to use his looks as a commodity also on the island, and he was able to use it to be able to help Yaya also stay alive and keep her nourished. And yeah, he also took advantage of that. It's unfortunate. It's unfortunate that we live in that kind of a society. And it's also unfortunate that Abigail made that choice to rebuild a society based on those laws, on those unspoken rules. But then when a person is exposed to that world for such a long time, they don't know any other way to do it.

MARTÍNEZ: In the end, Dolly, what did this film and working on this role teach you about power dynamics and how it flows and how it works?

DE LEON: Well, there are actually a lot of parallelisms with the film and what's really going on in the world right now. We're all judged based on how we look. We meet the person for the first time, and we judge them. We don't mean to, but that's just how it is. We have eyes so we can see. We judge someone based on how they look. We judge someone based on how they dress. Some people calculate the cost of what they're wearing.

Is what they're wearing branded? Are their shoes branded? Are they wearing jewelry? Are they pretty? Are they ugly? Are they fat? Are they thin? If they're fat, maybe they overindulge or they have no self-discipline. If they're thin, maybe they have an eating disorder. If the color of their skin is whatever, you know, they're being judged, but everything is being judged.

So, I mean, I know that the film is funny, and it's a comedy, but I hope that it gives people some insight on how we look at the world and how we can just go beyond surface level and go deeper into what's inside the person and interact with that person and establish a relationship based on just that and what's inside us.

MARTÍNEZ: That's Dolly De Leon. She stars in the widely acclaimed film "Triangle Of Sadness." Dolly, congratulations and thank you.

DE LEON: Thank you, A. This was fun. Thank you.

Do Yachts Have Bathrooms?

Joshua Palmer

Being out on a yacht is a great way to either relax or enjoy some kind of leisure time away from land. When nature calls, as is inevitable, it is never appropriate to answer off of the side of the yacht.

Yachts or boats over a certain size have bathrooms onboard where passengers can relieve themselves as the urge arises. Bathrooms on boats are commonly referred to as “heads” and can either be a portable option or a permanently installed head.

luxury yacht toilet

Toilets are usually small and can have complex instructions on how to use them as well as how to operate the flushing system .

Which Toilet Is Best?

Space and privacy concerns are chief considerations aboard a yacht. Since room is usually limited, the size of the boat could be one of the deciding factors in choosing the type of toilet to place onboard.

One has to also consider that the marine toilet selected should be equipped with a mechanism capable of expelling the contents in a single flush . This is important because water is usually a scarce commodity on board.

Of paramount importance is also an odor-proof connection between the toilet and the holding tank in order to minimize unpleasant odors seeping into the rest of the yacht.

Holding tanks are necessary to house toilet waste on board the boat as it is prohibited to empty human waste into open water.

Portable on board toilets also allows for passengers to be able to relieve themselves to some degree of comfort.

Waste collected also has to be stored until it can be safely disposed of on land.

Alternatively, some boat owners opt for a type of marine toilet which does not use a holding tank. A composting head is a welcome and more pleasant substitute to the idea of carting around waste until arrival at a disposal receptacle on land.

Not having to install a holding tank maximizes the ever elusive space aboard the yacht. Other benefits include elimination of offensive smells and respite from having to find a waste disposal station.

Safe Waste Disposal

Yacht captains and crew alike must be aware of boating regulations governing the safe disposal of human waste while out on the water so as to observe strict environmental and antipollution laws.

It is strongly recommended that onboard waste receptacles called holding tanks are installed as part of certain types of marine toilets in order to collect waste accumulated on board.

Once the vessel reaches a dock or appropriate facility on land, the holding tank can be emptied at a suitable waste-disposal point.

In some countries, such as Australia, one cannot expel untreated human waste (raw sewage) within one nautical mile of an island, a reef or the mainland .

In general, disposing of human waste out in the open sea or in a harbor is against the law.

Toilet Paper Considerations

At home, we want to use the plushest and most comfortable toilet paper which means that the higher the ply, the softer and fancier the bathroom tissue.

Clogging is a major issue with marine toilets so the choice of toilet paper has to be such that a passenger heeds the calls of nature, it does not result in a crisis on board the yacht.

One-ply toilet paper would otherwise be ignored on the shelves in the shops, however, these are perfect for use in a yacht toilet.

They are thin enough that they will not clog the marine toilet, but also sufficient for personal hygiene purposes.

If the roll is also biodegradable then this is even more appropriate for use on board the yacht as it will take less time to break down .

The choice of bathroom tissue also has some bearing on how easy it is to empty the holding tank when it becomes time to do so.

Thicker toilet paper can also clog the pump mechanism and prevent effective waste disposal if the holding tank does not have a macerator .

Toilets Are A Viable Choice

A marine head is more of a practical element than a luxury item on board a yacht, especially if passengers will be spending more time than an hour on board ship.

Of course, the larger the boat, the less likely that space is a consideration and the greater the possibility of installing a more comfortable and even more luxurious structure.

Owners and operators should not only pay attention to the safety and enjoyment of their guests while on the yacht, but also some of the practicalities associated with everyday life.

The 15 Best Personal Submarines For Superyacht Owners

By Victor Baker

Updated on February 11, 2023

Best Personal Submarines

Back in the old days, submarines were solely used for utilitarian purposes, like for research or for the military. But after many years of sitting on the edge of yachting manufacturing, personal submarines are becoming an established mode of transport for personal leisure.

Of course, the prices are exuberant, so it’s still a toy for the rich and famous, but us mere mortals can dream of some luxury, can’t we?

There are four main brands that are into submarine making that have been working on refining their designs for a good part of the last couple of decades. A fifth one is in the process of building a submarine with an interior that resembles a luxury business jet that will hopefully break through the barriers of the industry.

NEMO Submarine

Do you recall the 1977 James Bond movie , where his car became an immersible submarine? Back then we all thought that was fantasy, and those fantasies only existed in the movies. Well, Aston Martin is working on making that dream a reality. They are hoping to come up with the first submersible car to explore the oceans underwater while maintaining a luxurious lifestyle the brand believes in.

The research vessels have been around for a while, and their place is well established in the yacht industry . But the ultimate superyacht toys are in a category all of their own. We will explore the world most of us still only dream of, while a few fortunate humans can call this their hobby.

Triton personal submarine

Superyacht owners are into a different set of toys they like to spend their time with, such as helicopters, jet skis , or jacuzzis. The new and improved submarines that are built now are meant to be handled by more yachts than in the past. Usually, the submarine is launched with a crane that can handle the weight to lift it and the superyacht needs to possess the capacity to deal with all that entails. The crew should be experienced as well if they want to avoid accidents.

If you’re in the market for a personal submarine, they start at about one million US dollars, but some exceed that price by a lot more, and can even go into dozens of millions. Some of the factors such as maximum depth, submerged time, and payload capacity can all have an effect on the final cost. If you get all the bells and whistles, you are looking at a different price range.

Let’s see which are the 15 best personal submarines in the world right now.

  • Seabreacher X

Seabreacher X

Among the most technologically advanced marine vessels ever built, the Seabreacher X is a two-seater sub equipped with a 300 high-powered engine. If you’re familiar with the Y model, then you can notice the similarities in size. It is more aggressive shape-wise and it provides better propulsion while underwater with the fully vectored thrust system.

With about five meters (or 16 feet) in length, its design resembles a shark, and it seems as if it really mimics the tail articulation of water mammals.

  • U-Boat Worx C-Explorer

U-Boat Worx C-Explorer 5

With a maximum depth of up to 1,000 feet, the three or five-seat C-Explorer can stay underwater for up to eight hours. Not the largest sub we looked at, its transparent acrylic hull provides its passengers with cool 360-degree views.

It has a climate-controlled cabin that keeps its occupants comfortable for the duration of the trip. Even if you encounter some rough waters, the machine will keep its stability due to the dual-pontoon hull design.

  • DeepFlight Necker Nymph

DeepFlight Necker Nymph

Built for Richard Branson and his paradise resort Necker Island, the Necker Nymph is 4.6 meters (15 feet) long, with a beam of 3 meters (just under ten feet). This open-cockpit winged submarine accommodates a party of three plus one crew member, and it reaches up to 150 feet underwater. It is considered more of an extension of scuba diving rather than a submarine though.

Offering a speed of up to 6 knots, it is a little fun machine for weekend getaways. The Virgin owner flies underwater thanks to its positive buoyancy system designer Graham Hawkes built especially for this model.

  • Triton 600/2

Triton 600 2

The smallest offering from Triton Subs , this little machine weighs in at just 2,500 kg (or just a little over 5,500 lbs), and standing at 1,47m (or just under five feet). The svelte new design has the same power as Triton’s flagship model. It seats two people, which makes this a nice size for owners that prefer to pilot their own vehicle.

You can dive up to 200 meters (about 650 feet), for a maximum of six hours. The sub reaches a top speed of four knots, which is not bad for a tiny submersible. It is also customizable, so you can make it your own.

  • DeepFlight Dragon

DeepFlight Dragon

Princess Yachts and Dragon collaborated for the design of this personal sub model, which fits in the garage of Princess 40M. It is made to fly underwater alongside large marine mammals. Its long shape makes navigating easier, and it flies beneath the surface to up to 330 feet using an electric motor. Some submarines use ballast to descend, but this is not the case for the DeepFlight Dragon.

The 16-foot submersible is one of the most streamlined models on the market. Due to its compact size, this two-person Dragon aspires to become standard equipment for superyachts.

  • U-Boat Worx Cruise Sub 7 1140

U-Boat Worx Cruise Sub 7 1140

This seven-person sub is the deepest diver on this list. The Cruise Sub 7 1140 from U-Boat Worx can descend underwater to 3,740 feet, and it can last up to 16 hours deep under the sea. It is an air-conditioned machine that comes with two acrylic spheres. The back-to-back seats allow for three passengers to face one way, and the other three in the opposite direction.

The seats are revolving, so everyone gets the same views. The eight thrusters of the flagship model are equipped with aids in the maneuverability department, and it also offers plenty of horsepower to navigate even in strong currents.

  • Triton 1650/3

Triton 1650 3

This three-person submersible is one of the lightest on the market. Also the most compact model, the Triton 1650/3 weighs in at 4,000 kg (or close to 9,000lbs), which makes it a bit heftier than others in this category. It can dive up to 500m (or 1640 feet) depths, but it does not take much room. It is compared to a pair of Jet Skis when stowed, that’s how well it does on storing space.

The passengers can benefit from 360 degree views that are possible because of the bulbous acrylic cabin. To resurface just use the single life point, and that’s it. Easy to use and fun all at once.

  • U-Boat Worx Nemo Submersible

U-Boat Worx Nemo Submersible

Specifically designed with superyachts in mind, the Nemo Submersible is the latest from submarine specialist U-Boat Works. The company offers a slick machine that can deep-dive up to 300 feet underwater, and it weighs in at roughly 5,500 lbs.

It is a pleasure launching and recovering it, as there is no need for a cradle. It also takes up as much room as two jet skis when you’re ready to store it. The design is also trendy and the colors are bright and visible.

  • EGO Compact Semi Submarine

EGO Compact Semi Submarine

This part boat part sub was invented by Korean company Raonhaje. Passengers can observe the marine life from an enclosed unit that submerges directly underwater, while it remains attached to the whole structure. The huge acrylic windows offer clear views of the underwater world from below deck.

Powered by an electric motor, it is an affordable and sustainable option. On top of that, it is a fairly silent model. What that means is that it does not scare away the marine life that surrounds it.

  • Nautilus VAS Submarine

The US-based submersible maker Nautilus is the company behind this model, which took its inspiration from a military-style submarine construction. If you’re looking to purchase one of those submarines for your superyacht, you will enjoy hours underwater in pure comfort. Resembling a classic Bond vehicle, this luxury private submarine can hold up to five passengers.

Indoors, the machine is equipped with a toilet, stairs, a minibar, and it has enough headroom to be able to stand up freely. Using the large distortion-free optics, you can enjoy crystal clear views of marine life.

  • SEAmagine Ocean Pearl

SEAmagine Ocean Pearl

This two-person mini-submarine for luxury yachts goes for around $2.5 million. It has a maximum operating depth of 500 feet, and it can hold up for up to six hours. The clamshell design makes boarding easy with its large opening. It is also built to be able to handle multiple dives on the same day, without having to go back on deck.

Offering an excellent field of view to its occupants, it is also a safe and robust model. What’s cool about the Ocean pearl is the way it behaves underwater. It remains in the horizontal position at all times, and it doesn’t roll. In the event that the thrusters should stop, the submarine will rise back to the surface.

  • Aston Martin Triton Neptune

Aston Martin Triton Neptune

Teaming up with the brilliant people from Triton Submarines, Aston Martin wanted to design a brand new way to explore the underwater. Project Neptune is a fast, sleek, and extremely luxurious submersible that is changing the superyachting world. Think luxury car/yacht, with the same craftsmanship and detailing Astin Martin puts into creating its luxury cars.

Hand-stitched leather seats, a helm console are only a few of the numerous features the Neptune offers. It can remain submerged for up to eight hours, and go to depths of 1,640 feet.

  • SEAmagine Aurora 6

SEAmagine Aurora 6

Starting at $3.7 million, the Aurora 6 can carry five passengers and it reaches 3,300 feet. It contains six 10hp motors that offer extreme maneuverability. It can be compared to the same type of ease a multi-engine drone has. It seats a total of six people, including the pilot.

The guest lounge has room for three passengers that can enjoy the leather swivel chairs, while the others can sit at the back in their own seats. One of the larger sizes, it has its own toilet in the hull. The sub can go to 3,300 feet in-depth, and you can enjoy the marine life for up to eight hours.

  • Neyk Luxury L-1

Neyk Luxury L-1

The Neyk Luxury L-1 is easily one of the most ultra-modern submarine designs we’ve seen. Standing at 63-feet, this teardrop luxury sub can reach depths of 1,000 feet. Inside, the machine is spacious and can accommodate up to 12 guests. The height indoors goes up to six feet, so most people can stand comfortably.

Featuring a jet-style cockpit and all the bells and whistles they come with, the transparent nose cone provides you with a clear view of the ocean. The retractable undercarriage is built to drive up a ramp and use its own power. It is one of the most innovative designed submarines yet.

  • Phoenix 1000

Phoenix 1000

The single largest personal submarine ever made, it is also one of the most expensive ones . The size is impressive, at 65 meters (just under 215 feet), and a beam of about 8 meters (26 feet), it also has roughly 5,000 square feet of indoor area. It can fit a dozen people or so in its ten bedrooms, with its fully equipped kitchen, a jacuzzi, and a few viewing areas.

This underwater toy has capabilities of taking you to regions of the deep ocean other submersible machines cannot. It can make Transatlantic crossings at 16 knots of speed, all while keeping its passengers safe and comfortable. Luxury at its best, this will run you close to 2.3 billion US dollars.

These are the 15 best submarines for superyacht owners you can purchase this year. We hope you enjoyed this virtual tour into the gadgets the rich and famous invest their time and money into. Maybe one day we can also aspire to one of those submarines as our personal little toys.

  • Last Updated: February 25, 2024

Finding the best camper vans with bathroom facilities is a quest many adventurers undertake to blend comfort with the freedom of the road.

As a dedicated RV enthusiast and critic, I’ve personally tested over 35 camper vans, specifically focusing on those that offer the convenience of an onboard bathroom .

This feature is a game-changer for travelers looking to go off-grid without sacrificing basic comforts.

The standout option, for me, has been the Airstream Interstate 19 – a masterclass in design, efficiency, and comfort, making it my top pick.

Its compact size belies a well-appointed interior, complete with a luxurious bathroom that rivals those of larger campers, perfectly balancing maneuverability with amenities.

This round-up is designed to guide you through the top choices for camper vans with bathrooms, ensuring you find a van that not only meets your travel needs but exceeds them.

Based on my experience, the top camper vans are:

  • Airstream Interstate 19 : Best overall for luxury and design.
  • American Coach Patriot MD2 Loft Bed : Perfect for families needing extra sleeping space.
  • Coach House Arriva V24 : Offers unparalleled interior space and comfort.
  • Coachmen Beyond 22RB : A fantastic choice for solo travelers or couples, featuring an efficient layout.
  • Fleetwood RV Irok Lounge : Top pick for those prioritizing social space and versatility.
  • Nugget Plus Highroof : Ideal for adventurers seeking height and storage without compromising on bathroom facilities.
  • Pleasure Way Ascent TS : Stands out for its meticulous craftsmanship and elegant camper van interior.
  • RoadTrek Zion SRT : Best for urban explorers looking for a compact size with all essential amenities.
  • Thor Motorcoach Tellaro 20AT : Offers unique outdoor and indoor integration, perfect for nature lovers.
  • Winnebago Era 70A : A robust choice with a spacious bathroom and flexible living space.

10 Amazing Camper Vans With a Bathroom

10 Amazing Camper Vans With Bathrooms Including Shower And Toilet Setups

There are many different types of camper van bathrooms, and RV manufacturers design them in different ways. It can be hard to decide what’s best for you!

Some people want a full wet bath with a shower and sink, while others want to save space and prefer to simply have a toilet.

Whatever your choice, these ten camper vans with bathrooms will give you an idea of what’s available and how the manufacturer incorporated the bathroom in the floor plan.

1. Airstream Interstate 19

Airstream Interstate 19

One of the most iconic names in travel trailers , Airstream teamed up with one of the most notable manufacturers of cargo vans, Mercedes-Benz, to offer a line of five different touring coaches.

The Interstate 19 has a European-style wet bath directly behind the driver’s seat, with a toilet that’s placed for maximum space as well as a shower and sink.

Plus, Airstream has added extra features that make all the difference, including a waterproof toilet paper cover, articulated mirror above the sink and a clothesline.

Throughout the rest of the van, you’ll find seating for five (three seatbelts) on the rear sofa/bed and side benches, and plenty of nooks for storage.

The camper van has a fully-equipped galley with a two-burner gas stove, a large stainless steel sink, additional slide-out counter space, a 0.7 cu.ft. convection microwave, a refrigerator with a freezer, and a slide-out pantry.

The Airstream Interstate 19 is built on a Mercedes Sprinter chassis, and at only 19 feet in length, fits into a standard parking spot.

MSRP starts at $165,143.

2. American Coach Patriot MD2 Loft Bed

American Coach Patriot MD2 Loft Bed

American Coach has three different models of camper vans with bathrooms, and two different floor plans for each model depending on whether you prefer to have a convertible sofa bed or a loft above the rear dinette.

All of the models have a dry bath, featuring dual entry solid doors, a shower curtain between the porcelain toilet and shower, a teak floor mat, retractable clothes line, and a power bath vent.

The bathroom is located in the middle of the camper on the driver’s side.

Toward the rear, you’ll find the lounge and sleeping area, with bench seating and a Lagun removable table below, and a loft bed and narrow overhead storage above.

The galley is across from the bathroom, and includes a slide-out pantry, stove, and sink with overhead cabinets and drawers under the sink.

The refrigerator is topped with a stainless steel microwave, and there’s a wardrobe and a convenient flip-up computer table behind the driver’s seat for space to comfortably work while on the road.

The Patriot camper vans from American Coach have added comfort and luxury, and include a 13,500 BTU rooftop air conditioner, 320 Watts of Solar, a Suburban Water Heater LPG, and more.

Like the Airstream Interstate 19 and many other Class B motorhomes on this list, the Patriot MD2 Loft Bed van is also built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis.

MSRP starts at $147,990.

3. Coach House Arriva V24

Coach House Arriva V24

With a dry bath taking up the entire rear of the camper van, the Arriva V24 model from Coach House has one of the larger bathrooms as compared with the others on this list.

It’s as residential-quality as you can get with a camper van, with a porcelain flush toilet (with a sprayer) next to the lavatory sink which has a mirror and medicine cabinet above.

On the other side of the room, there’s a separate 26 x 24.5-inch stand-up shower and wardrobe.

Moving forward in the camper van, there are twin beds on either side of the space, which can be used as lounge seating by day and sleeping space at night.

The beds can convert into a king-sized bed, and there’s tons of storage below as well as overhead cabinets above.

The galley kitchen takes up the front part of the van’s interior space behind the driving cab.

There’s a two-burner stove and stainless steel sink with covers for each, a slide-out pantry, 6-cubic foot three-way refrigerator, and stainless steel convection/microwave oven.

The driver and passenger seats both swivel, and the storage cabinet next to the fridge has a fold-out table for dining, lounging or working.

Coach House’s Arriva V24 camper van is built on a Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Chassis, and features several cool exterior systems and components.

There’s an exterior HDTV antenna with Wi-Fi, exterior storage, an exterior shower (hot/cold), and a power awning with legs and LED lights.

It also has a 15,000 BTU ducted roof air conditioner w/heat pump, 19,000 BTU auto LP gas furnace, and Fan-Tastic roof vent with thermostat and rain sensor.

MSRP for this camper van starts at $119,000.

4. Coachmen Beyond 22RB

Coachmen Beyond 22RB

Coachmen RV is one of the best known manufacturers for recreational vehicles, and they have two brands of camper vans that have floorplans with bathrooms included.

The Beyond models are 22 feet long and are built on a Ford Transit 350 HD chassis, while the Nova line features 20-foot long vans built on RAM ProMaster 3500 chassis.

The Beyond 22RB camper van is our pick for this list, and features a wet bath that makes up the rear of the van with the included wardrobe.

The bathroom is designed for minimal use of space, with a flip-down sink and shower above the toilet.

The lounge and convertible sleeping area is just outside the bath area, with twin beds on either side of the van and overhead cabinets above.

Coachmen’s Beyond 22RB van comes with a removable Lagun table between the benches for convenient and flexible dining space.

A galley kitchen sits just behind the driver’s seat, with a two-burner stove and sink, refrigerator below, and storage cabinets above.

Across the space next to the entry, there’s a countertop with a microwave above. Both the driver’s and passenger’s seats swivel, and there’s a removable table for alternate dining or work space.

Coachmen has several new features that come standard with the Beyond 22RB camper van, including an upgraded WiFi Ranger SkyPro, a RVQG2800i 2.8KW gasoline generator, Coleman Mach 10 NDQ 13,500 BTU air conditioner, and a 24″ LED Smart TV.

5. Fleetwood RV Irok Lounge

Fleetwood RV Irok Lounge

Fleetwood RV also has a thoughtfully-designed Class B motorhome with an included bathroom.

The wet bath is right behind the driver’s seat, with a porcelain toilet on one side and the shower and sink on the other.

The bathroom door is dual-opening, so you can access either side conveniently, and there’s a shower curtain between them to keep the toilet area from getting wet every time you shower. A retractable clothes line and power vent are also included.

A galley kitchen sits in the center of the camper van, with a sink, induction cooktop, 3.5 cu.ft. refrigerator and freezer, and storage drawers on the passenger side of the van.

Across the way, a 110-volt convection microwave sits on top of a spacious storage wardrobe. Overhead storage cabinets span the rear and sides of the van in a J-shape and extend above the galley for extra space to put food and dishes.

The back half of the Fleetwood Irok Lounge has seating for seven (seat belts for three) between a long rear bench and two-person benches on either side and tons of storage underneath.

The van comes with a removable table to make your lounge space into a dining area. At night, the lounge converts into a sofa bed.

Like the Coachmen Beyond and the Coach House Arriva, the Fleetwood Irok has some extras to offer, including a 13,500 BTU rooftop A/C and Espar Coach Furnace.

On the exterior, there’s a power awning with LED lights (including an LED patio light), input for cable TV, a rooftop solar panel and system, and an exterior shower.

The Irok is built on a RAM ProMaster 3500 chassis, and MSRP starts at $113,995.

6. Nugget Plus Highroof

Nugget Plus Highroof

We couldn’t build this list without including a van from the original camper van manufacturer, Westfalia.

This European-made Class B motorhome is very different from the others we’ve highlighted so far. It’s more like a pop-top camper, with the sleeping area in a loft above.

The Nugget Plus Highroof has a bathroom nook at the back with a fixed chemical toilet and a super convenient drop-down sink.

There’s no shower in the bathroom, but Westfalia does offer the option to add one on the exterior.

Just outside the bathroom there’s a spacious kitchen area with a 40-liter chest fridge that’s flush with the countertop when closed for extra prep space, a two-burner gas stove, and circular sink.

There’s tons of storage, including a handy shelf between the sink and the headrest of the bench seat.

As you exit the kitchen and enter the seating area, there’s a wardrobe for even more storage.

The Nugget Plus Highroof has a bench seat behind the driving cab that seats three and converts into a bed for two.

The driver and passenger seats swivel, and Westfalia includes a removable table for dining or work.

Throughout the camper van, you’ll find premium LED-interior lighting including fully directional spot lamps.

At night, you can create additional sleeping space overhead with the convertible loft.

Outside, there’s a built-in awning and a camping table that you can fix on the tailgate and enjoy the great outdoors with two included camp chairs.

You can only buy this particular model from Westfalia in Germany, and MSRP starts at €63,334.

7. Pleasure Way Ascent TS

Pleasure Way Ascent TS

Pleasure Way is the only brand on this list to exclusively manufacture Class B motorhomes and camper vans.

Our pick is the Ascent TS model, which has a full wet bath behind the driver’s seat featuring a residential-style ceramic toilet with foot flush, shower with a handheld showerhead, corner sink with faucet, towel rack and mirror.

A special feature of the Pleasure Way Ascent TS is the inclusion of an inflatable air bed that’s specifically designed to fit across the driver and passenger seats to create a bed for a third person.

The memory foam power sofa (includes two three-point seat belts) at the back of the camper van converts into a queen sized bed or two singles as the main sleeping area.

The galley kitchen sits between the bathroom and lounge, and features a 12-volt, 3.2 cu.ft. refrigerator and freezer, microwave, pull-out pantry, single burner induction stove, and a large undermount stainless steel sink with a Corian® cover and a high-arc, single-handle faucet with a pull-out sprayer.

A Lagun table mount system with a 360-degree swivel tabletop is included, conveniently situated for use as a table or extra countertop space.

As far as exterior features and HVAC systems, the Pleasure Way Ascent TS has you covered.

There’s a Fiamma® power awning with LED lights, exterior shower with a handheld wand, low profile 11,000 BTU roof mount Dometic air conditioner, a power lift Dometic Fan-Tastic Vent fan with rain sensor, and a Truma VarioHeat 11,500 BTU furnace.

The Pleasure Way Ascent TS is built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 chassis, and MSRP starts at $149,305.

8. RoadTrek Zion SRT

Roadtrek Zion SRT

RoadTrek has a fantastic example of a self-contained camper van with a bathroom.

In the Zion Srt Model has wet bath sits behind the driver’s seat, and has a toilet, corner sink and shower in an enclosed space with an angled entry to maximize elbow room while you shower.

Outside, the galley kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to comfortably cook after a long day on the road.

There’s a 5.3 cu.ft. refrigerator with a freezer, a two-burner recessed propane stove with a flush cover and built-in igniter, a stainless steel sink (also with a recessed cover), and a 0.7 cu.ft. microwave.

Some features that take this camper van kitchen to the next level include a slide-out pantry, pull-up counter extension with a power charging station, and a deep pot drawer for storing your cooking gear.

At the rear of the RoadTrek Zion SRT, there’s a three-seater, forward-facing power sofa that, along with the two side benches and removable/adjustable table, converts into a queen sized bed.

Overhead there’s a 24″ Smart TV on a rotating bracket. Both the driver and passenger seats swivel, and there’s a second removable table that you can use to work, dine, or play games in the cab.

At night, you can convert this area to a third bed with RoadTrek’s add-on option. An extended version of the Zion SRT camper, the CS Adventurous, is scheduled to be available in summer 2021, and features a third passenger seat as well as a bed.

The RoadTrek Zion SRT has a 11,000 BTU roof mounted air conditioner and 16,000 BTU automatic propane furnace for keeping you cool in warm weather and warm in the cold.

It also comes equipped with a Firefly coach control system, which monitors water, propane, battery charge levels, battery disconnect and generator hour meter. Outside, there’s an 11-foot power awning and outdoor shower.

This camper van is built on a RAM ProMaster 3500 chassis and it’s starting MSRP is $132,860.

9. Thor Motorcoach Tellaro 20AT

Thor Motorcoach Tellaro 20AT

Thor Motorcoach is a well-known manufacturer of recreational vehicles, and they have three different floorplans available for their Tellaro model of Class B motorhome and campervan.

The 20AT is our pick for the best camper vans with a bathroom, although the wet bath in the 20LT and 20KT are slightly larger.

This is because the 20AT has a king-sized bed in the rear and an optional retractable Pop-Top Sky Bunk™ that sleeps an additional adult or a couple of kiddos.

This camper van’s bathroom still has everything you need, though. There’s a cassette toilet in the wet bath, with an overhead shower and power vent with a wall switch.

The bath is located in the middle of the van, though, so let’s discuss some of the other things that make this camper special.

Like most of the vans on this list, the Tellaro 20AT has swiveling driver’s and passenger’s seats, so when you’re parked in your campsite, these two seats form a comfortable lounge or dining area with the two-seater bench and folding and collapsible dinette table.

There’s overhead storage and a 24-inch TV above, and a slide-out closet behind the bench.

The wet bath is behind this area, and across the way is the galley kitchen, complete with a stainless steel single bowl sink with a cover and single handle kitchen faucet, two burner gas cooktop (with a glass cover), and storage drawers and a 4.3 cu.ft. stainless steel electric refrigerator below. Overhead, there’s a microwave and storage cabinets.

We already mentioned the king-sized bed in the rear, and it’s convertible into two long benches by day. There’s a huge amount of storage below these benches, and overhead cabinets span both sides of the van.

Tellaro also includes some extra features with their camper vans, such as a hideaway drawer for a pet food and water dish.

Additionally, the camper comes with a solar power system, Winegard® ConnecT 2.0 4G/Wi-Fi/Digital TV antenna, a Thule®  bike rack that accommodates two full-size adult bicycles, and Thule® roof ladder and 16-foot lateral arm power patio awning with integrated LED lighting.

There’s also a 14,300 BTU furnace and 11,000 BTU air conditioner. The Thor Motorcoach Tellaro 20AT is built on a RAM® Promaster 3500 XT chassis, and MSRP starts at $94,938.

10. Winnebago Era 70A

Winnebago Era 70A

Winnebago has several Class B RV and camper van models, but our choice for this list of the best with bathrooms is the Era 70A.

The 24“x43” wet bath is located in the heart of the camper, and has bi-fold entry doors, a toilet with foot flush and sprayer, tissue holder, stainless steel sink, and flexible showerhead with a shower curtain and powered roof vent.

There’s also a removable clothing rod and shower mat for extra convenience and comfort.

Toward the front, the unique feature of this campervan is the side-facing bench behind the driver’s seat, which has two seat belts and converts into a 36”x66” sofa bed at night.

Together with the swiveling captain’s chairs in the cab and the removable pedestal table, this is a great spot for dining, lounging, working or playing games.

Across the space, the galley kitchen is quite spacious, with generous countertop space (Corian® solid-surface) and above and below storage areas.

There’s even a flip-up countertop extension for more! Features of the kitchen include a two door compressor driven refrigerator/freezer and microwave oven with touch control, 24-inch HDTV, two burner range cooktop with a glass cover, stainless steel sink with a folding faucet and glass cover, and a cold water purification system.

There’s a large wardrobe between the kitchen and the bedroom, which has two twin beds that convert into a spacious 68”x75” double bed.

Outside, the Winnebago Era 70A has an OmniGo™ omni-directional, amplified HDTV antenna, a 16-foot awning with LED lighting, an exterior speaker system, a slideout compartment tray (access from rear door), and an exterior wash station with a pump switch.

The van is equipped with a Coleman®-Mach® 10 NDQ air conditioner and Truma Combi® Eco Plus heating system with two 850-watt electric heating elements. It’s built on a Mercedes-Benz® Sprinter chassis, and MSRP starts at $184,784.

Is It Worth It To Put a Bathroom in Your Camper Van?

Whether you’re in the market for a camper van or planning a van build , you may be asking yourself whether it’s worth it to have a bathroom in your camper.

After all, it takes up quite a bit of valuable space. Let’s talk about the pros and cons.

Pros and Cons of Having a Bathroom in Your Camper Van

By having a bathroom and shower in your camper van, you can enjoy all kinds of perks including:

Greater comfort and home-like feel

More flexibility for camping off-grid, more discreet for stealth camping situations, easy and convenient hygiene, freedom to live off-grid for longer.

There are pros and cons to everything, though, and some of the reasons you might not want to have a bathroom in your camper van include:

Reduces your available living space

Costs more (whether you’re building it yourself or buying a pre-built van), uses up your fresh water more quickly, makes your van heavier (the bathroom itself, plus the larger water tanks), may develop stinky issues that require expensive repairs.

Things to Consider Before You Put a Bathroom In Your Van

Things to Consider Before You Put a Bathroom In Your Van

As you weigh the pros and cons, there are some questions to ask yourself to help make the best decision for your situation:

Will you be camping primarily in campgrounds or on free public land? What about stealth camping?

Will you be traveling with small children or do you have a hard time going out to the woods every time you need to go to the bathroom , would you mind losing space in your layout , are you claustrophobic , do you just need a toilet or a shower, too, what’s your budget consider the up front cost of the project or van, as well as maintenance costs. , what kind of maintenance are you prepared to handle (emptying the black tank, winterizing to prevent pipes from freezing, plumbing repairs if something breaks or clogs, etc.), what water tank capacity do you need (fresh, gray, black), different types of camper van bathrooms.

There are two primary types of bathrooms you will find in camper vans, if they include one.

1. Wet Bath

This is the type most commonly found in the vans that I featured early in this article, and it basically means that all surfaces within the room can get wet.

It’s probably the most popular because of the privacy that it offers, as well as being ready to use at any time.

However, it takes up valuable space that you might not have in a shorter van, and it adds significant extra weight.

2. Hidden Bathroom

Like its name conveys, a hidden bathroom is made using a combination of cabinets, drawers, and fold-out systems to reveal the toilet or set up the shower.

With this option, the bathroom is less of a “room” and the toilet and shower serve more like appliances that you pull out and put away for each use.

However, it is a better way to have a bathroom without sacrificing so much living space to have a full wet bath.

The lack of a dedicated room also means that you’ll sacrifice some privacy when using it, since there are no walls.

And, the toilet and especially the shower may take a couple of minutes to set up before you can use it, unlike a wet bath, which is ready to use at any time (as long as you don’t use it like a second closet).

Most of the wet baths for the camper vans on the list above have porcelain toilets, just like those you’d find in a residential bathroom. But if you are planning to create a hidden bathroom or building a wet bath into your van, you might consider some of the other different types of toilets.

Let’s go into the pros and cons of each:

3: Porcelain Toilet

Using these toilets is almost the same as going “the go” on a normal household toilet.

The difference being, you have to empty the waste tank every so often, so the capacity of your van’s black water tank is very important.

I noted the capacities for the vans above, and for reference, a 12-gallon black water tank will likely last you about 2-3 weeks of daily use before you need to dump it.

There are some downsides with this set up, as well. You need to use RV-safe toilet paper, since regular toilet paper could cause clogs, and the system requires regular dumping, chemical treatment, and maintenance to keep it functioning well.

4: Cassette Toilet

Another popular type of toilet for camper vans is a cassette toilet, which doesn’t have any exterior plumbing (i.e. it doesn’t connect to the black tank).

Instead, there’s a compartment in the base (sometimes there’s one for solid waste and one for liquid waste).

The upsides of this type of toilet are that it’s very small, portable, and easy to maintain.

That said, its low profile can make it difficult for some people to use, and the waste tanks are much smaller, requiring more frequent dumping.

You’ll also need to install an access panel in the side of your camper in order to access the waste tank for dumping, since a cassette toilet is usually fixed in place.

5: Composting Toilet

The most environmentally friendly type of toilet for camper vans is the composting toilet , which separates liquid and solid waste, and you add something like sawdust, peat moss, or coconut coir after each use to facilitate the composting process.

This type of toilet does not require water, but it does need a small amount of electricity to power the vent fan.

Contrary to assumption, composting toilets do not usually smell, especially if you are using and emptying them properly.

The biggest drawbacks to this type of toilet is the expensive up front cost and their size, as they’re bigger than any of the other types of toilet.

Composting Toilet

6: Portable Toilet

If you’re looking for something that’s small and more portable than a cassette toilet, you may want to consider a portable toilet .

This type has a removable tank under the bowl for the waste, which you can dump in an RV dump station or even a normal toilet that’s connected to sewer.

Portable toilets typically have a hand pump that’s connected to a fresh water tank for flushing.

Other than the small waste tank size, the other downside with portable toilets is that they require the use of chemicals to prevent odors.

Portable Toilet

Cost and Final Thoughts About Camper Vans with Bathrooms

Whether you’re planning to build a bathroom set up in your van, or you’re considering buying a camper van with a bathroom, there are options for everyone.

One thing we didn’t really discuss in this article was price, and you might be wondering, is it expensive to add a bathroom to a camper van? The answer – and the reason we haven’t mentioned it yet – is that it totally depends on your preferences and your budget.

In our article, “ How Much Does a Sprinter Van Conversion Cost? ”, we found that the cost of the items you need for building a wet bath in your van could range between $1,533 and $2,500, but that wasn’t taking into account more expensive items like a composting toilet, which could cost about $1,400 on its own.

On the other end of things, you could buy a portable toilet for around $100 and build a divider relatively cheaply.

And of course, the price for pre-built camper vans with bathrooms is quite a bit higher than the cost of a van with no bathroom.

Hopefully this article has provided more clarity on the options available if you want to have a bathroom in your camper van.

I can’t imagine Jeff Bezos carrying his urine up the gang plank of his luxury yacht or “composting” (it’s not if you live permanently in the van, it’s basically shi**ing in a kitty litter box). Best toilet of all – a mascerating toilet. I have the new Saniflo. Drive out into the wilderness, push a button, and drive away, that’s it. I don’t have a grey tank, so that more water goes into the black tank to prevent blockages. Blockages always caused by solids, so just with two tanks – fresh and black – and ZERO grey water, I have never had a blockage. Best system ever. Take an old yachtie to think of it.

I agree, that’s why I already wrote an article about this it. about this https://www.rvingknowhow.com/rv-macerating-toilet/ .

And yes, there’s no doubt about it – there are many benefits to using a macerator toilet in your RV. It protects your black tank from build-up and clogs, it feels like a residential toilet, and it is very simple to use. However, their expensive price tags and dependence on water and power may make you want to reconsider.

Actress Dolly De Leon was surprised she got the lead in 'Triangle of Sadness'

Thank you. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.

Luxury Boat Ownership – The Tax Implications and Other Things to Know

Luxury Boat Ownership – The Tax Implications and Other Things to Know

Reaping the Tax Benefits and Avoiding the Pitfalls of Owning a Yacht

The average “boat owner” has to deal with the trials and tribulations of owning a weekend “runabout.” However, for a luxury yacht owner, boat ownership is literally in a class by itself. For purposes of this article, the word “yacht” and “boat” are used interchangeably. Rather than any kind of “regrets” those of you who are visiting the Miami Boat Show (February 15-19, 2023) with the intention of buying a yacht, we say “congratulations!” and wish you a lifetime of fulfilling dreams of unparalleled recreation, decadent soirees, and exclusive trips to exotic ports of call throughout the world. Dubai, the French Riviera, or the Amalfi Coast awaits!

With all that luxury, there can also come some heavy tax burdens. As with your other high-end assets, the way you structure your acquisition will play a direct role in the enjoyment of your new acquisition. If handled correctly, there may be several tax advantages and deductions that you can leverage which will enhance your satisfaction of luxury boat ownership. To name one aspect, writing off many of the expenses of owning your yacht “as a business” through judicious use of allowable tax deductions.

In this article, we will discuss how to reap some of these benefits while avoiding the pitfalls sometimes associated with local, state, and national taxes, attribution of income, and other charges and liens associated with luxury yacht ownership. We will also look at the challenges and special tax considerations for U.S. citizens owning yachts but operated in other jurisdictions. The imposition of tax whether it be a Value Added Tax, a Sale tax, a Use tax, or other tax is universally imposed by the jurisdiction where a tax nexus is created but can often be easily avoided. For example, if the Yacht were operated in the Mediterranean, the laws of the European Union would need to be considered. The imposition of these kind of taxes is beyond the scope of this article.

Your Boat as a Business

If you operate your boat as a business, you may be able to use allowable deductions such as depreciation to reduce your taxable income. This is also sometimes referred to as “active yacht ownership.” Either way, it is a business/ tax strategy  applicable to the ownership of a yacht and can offset the high cost of yacht ownership. One strategy, simply stated, is to place the Yacht into a charter program to generate income. The good news is that doing so does not mean that you can no longer use the boat for your own personal recreation. U.S. law still allows personal use if the ultimate beneficial owner’s use is properly structured.

The tax advantages of active yacht ownership can be substantial, even beyond the kinds of deductions that a “land bound” business can traditionally take for business expenses.

Offsetting Expenses Through IRS Section 179

The most common method that active boat owners use to offset business expenses is through IRS section 179.

Section 179 was initially intended to help small businesses acquire new high-value equipment essential to their operation. However, it also allows a business owner to deduct the cost of certain types of property, including a luxury yacht, on their income taxes as an expense, rather than requiring the cost of said property to be capitalized and depreciated.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to utilize various tax deductions as business expenses such as boat insurance, slip fees, loan interest (if you financed your purchase), repairs, etc.

If you choose not to run your yacht as a business, you may also leverage tax savings by declaring the yacht to be a secondary residence, which will be covered in a subsequent section of this article.

Depreciation for Boats for Income Tax Purposes

If, for some reason, you are unable to claim the immediate tax deductions afforded by Section 179 or would rather choose to recover the cost of a “qualified asset,” such as a luxury yacht, over a longer period, you may wish to use the depreciation schedule from Sections 167 or 168 of the tax code. The special allowance under Section 168 has become known as “bonus depreciation.” It has been so-called because it “increased the bonus depreciation percentage from 50% to 100% for qualified property acquired and placed in service after September 27, 2017. The date by which a Yacht owner must apply is under review by the IRS and there is subject to review by your tax advisor.

Where to Flag Your Yacht

Unlike buying even an expensive luxury car or a high-end piece of real estate, buying a yacht is unlike any other high-end purchase, because, by its very nature, it has international implications.

Where to “flag” or register your yacht must be decided early in the purchasing process. There are over forty so-called Flags of Convenience, which allows a yacht owner to flag his/her yacht in a country other than the Country of Ultimate Beneficial Owner’s citizenship. The Yacht will then fly the flag of that country.

The laws of the Flag of Convenience flag state offer many tax, crewing and operational advantages not offered by a true National Flag.

One of the principal benefits of flagging “offshore” is to reduce operating costs, avoiding higher taxes in the owners’ country of citizenship, and bypassing to some extent the laws that protect the wages and working conditions of mariners. The term “flag of convenience” has been used since the 1950s. A registry that does not have a nationality or residency requirement for ship registration is often also described as an open registry.

Keep in mind that according to the U.S. Coast Guard, only U.S. citizens can own U.S.-documented or flagged vessels. The situation gets a bit more complicated when it comes to corporate ownership and running your yacht as a business, as described above. Determining if a yacht run as an LLC or other corporate entity is considered a U.S. corporation or not, follows the same kinds of guidelines as making that determination for a land-based operation.

As an additional requirement, if the vessel seeks a fishery or coastwise endorsement, at least 75% of the stock interest in the corporation must be owned by U.S. citizens. However, even if you are a U.S. citizen, you do not have to register or flag your yacht as a U.S. vessel, and in fact, most yacht owners do not do so.

Where you decide to register or flag your yacht can have some complicated tax implications. For example, it may seem attractive to register your vessel in the Caymans as many yacht owners do, however, if the boat is registered “offshore” (i.e. one the 40 odd offshore flags which will accept Yachts for registry like, for example, the Cayman Islands) and the chartering company is owned under a foreign corporation, there may be various filing requirements for U.S. taxpayers.

The situation becomes more challenging for non-U.S. citizens. When a foreigner not domiciled in the U.S. dies owning U.S. situs property, they may be subject to the estate tax on the Owner’s death. Any U.S. situs assets with a value above $60,000 at the time of death may be taxed at rates up to 40% of the fair market value of the asset. Even when the foreign individual owns a boat through a U.S. entity, he or she might be subject to the Estate Tax depending on the type of corporate structure that is used.

These are just two examples of how involved this can become from a tax perspective and deciding where to register your yacht relative to your country of residence.

Where you decide to flag your yacht, regardless of your country of citizenship, is one of the most important decisions you can make when purchasing a luxury yacht, and it should not be done lightly nor without proper due diligence and financial and legal advice. Once your vessel is registered in a country, all the country’s laws will apply to your boat. Many countries that have attractive tax structures have other issues that you may still want to avoid, such as laws that determine the nationality of the crew you hire, and where the flagged vessel may, or may not dock.

A Yacht as a Second Home or Residence

An alternative strategy to operating your luxury yacht as a business but still being able to leverage some tax advantages is to see if it can qualify as a second home or residence if you are a U.S. fiscal resident.

To qualify as a second home, a boat must have at least one berth, a galley, and a toilet. Meeting this minimal qualification means that it can qualify for a mortgage interest deduction as a second home. According to IRS Publication 936, if it is missing even one of these elements, you cannot treat it as a second home, even if you “reside” there, making do with what it has and what it does not have.

If you combine the two strategies, in other words, rent your boat out at all, and want to claim it as a second home – then you must also prove “personal use.” You must document the use of the vessels for the longer of 14 days or 10 percent of the number of days you rent it out.

Remember, too, that for income tax purposes, you can only have one “second home.” If you already have a vacation home that you have been declaring as your second home on your tax filing, you will have to substitute your yacht for it. If you want to claim the mortgage interest deduction on the boat which is limited to interest on debt up to the first seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

The ultra rich know all about Sunseeker — the luxury brand known for being a global leader in yachts. The website doesn’t list prices, and you’re encouraged to find your local yacht dealer for additional information. One could only imagine how much a typical luxury yacht would go for. If you’re ever interested in browsing the various options, you can check out YachtWorld , where you can pick out your sports yacht for a few million dollars.

If you’re wondering if you’ve ever seen this luxury brand, chances are that you may have caught a glimpse of a Sunseeker luxury yacht in a James Bond film. Sunseeker yachts are in as many Bond films, like Aston Martin cars, so you may have spotted one in the past without realizing what you were looking at.

Brunello Cucinelli

You may have seen pictures of celebrities dressed in this luxury fashion brand, but chances are that you weren’t aware of the brand name. The Brunello Cucinelli brand is called after the Italian fashion designer who started the company in 1978 and has since gone on to dress celebrities and Silicon Valley giants. Despite dressing many famous celebrities, the luxury brand doesn’t rely on celebrity endorsements in advertisements, as it prefers to be more subtle.

You may not have noticed from the casual appearance, but many tech moguls have appeared in interviews in luxury clothing from the Cucinelli line. On top of the $5,000 blazers, the rich have purchased high-end casual clothing pieces, like $2,500 sweatpants or $800 sneakers. You may be surprised by how many notable celebrities have been spotted in this luxury brand.

Best Bank Account at Citizens Bank: A Savings Account With No Monthly Fee or Minimum Deposit

Despite being around since 1766, chances are you haven’t heard about this luxury brand, since it’s a huge auction house for those looking to buy and sell expensive art pieces. The price points at Christie’s auctions range from $500 to over $100 million, with work available from 80 art and luxury categories.

Christie’s also has a network of specialists who can assist clients with various services ranging from art appraisal to art financing. The company also offers art education for those new to the space. Even though their wares are mainly on the radar of the ultra-wealthy, there may be an auction house near you — Christie’s has a flagship location in New York City and a presence in 46 countries globally.

If you’ve ever looked into experiencing luxury travel (and are super rich), you’ve likely heard of Virtuoso. Everyone else likely hasn’t heard about this global network of luxury travel advisors. The Virtuoso platform offers luxury experiences, ranging from private yacht adventures to trips based around sporting events. The platform, with over 20,000 luxury travel advisors, has seen tourists spending up to $50,000 per trip.

With many rich folks adding wellness into their travel routine, the demand for unique private experiences has increased. If you’re looking for inspiration, you can create a “Wanderlist” on the Virtuoso website.

While everyone has likely heard of a Rolex watch, another luxury watch brand that isn’t a household name is Omega. The luxury Swiss watch brand has been around since 1848, and the company hired Zoë Kravitz and Zhou Dongyu as brand ambassadors this year to promote the Aqua Terra Shades campaign.

The Omega brand recently partnered with the more affordable watch company Swatch to bring the collaborative effort into the market with a surprising disruption. The MoonSwatch Collection was a viral sensation and the limited edition project was challenging to find in stores.

Farfetch was launched by José Neves in 2008 as an online marketplace for luxury boutiques worldwide — and it’s beloved by the mega rich. The official website touts that the company is the top global online luxury fashion platform. With over 1,400 luxury retailers and 3.9 million active consumers, the platform is growing globally, so you may start hearing about them more often.

The Farfetch platform is known for connecting creators, curators and consumers of luxury brands. You’ll likely discover new luxury brands on the platform, since Farfetch sells various products from men’s, kids’, beauty and women’s styles.

This luxury fashion retailer was founded in Germany in 2006, and the company has expanded to offer luxury children’s wear and home goods. The luxury platform has a simple user interface with a white background and basic black text. With almost two million followers on Instagram, this luxury brand has long been beloved by the ultra-wealthy and is starting to gain traction worldwide.

Mytheresa executives recently announced that it expected to increase net sales by anywhere from 8% to 13% in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. Most of the top spenders with this luxury brand are high-powered business leaders with limited time and don’t want to look for the perfect outfit.

Exclusive Resorts

For the jet-setting elite who crave privacy and luxury above all else, there exists a secretive high-end travel club that provides access to the world’s most exclusive destinations. Known only to those who travel at the highest stratospheres of wealth, Exclusive Resorts offers a level of luxury, convenience, and exclusivity that puts even Four Seasons and Aman resorts to shame.

This members-only utopia comes at an appropriately elite price — with membership initiation fees starting at a cool $100,000 and reaching up to $250,000. But for those who can afford it, what they get in return is the key to unlocking the world’s most coveted locales precisely when they want them. We’re talking finish-line villas in Monaco for the Grand Prix, ski-in cabins beside the Waltons’ own in Aspen for Christmas and penthouses overlooking the Champs Elysees during Paris Fashion Week.

With a $600 million portfolio of owned homes and villas globally, Exclusive Resorts can accommodate virtually any whim or wish of its select 3,000 members. Don’t expect to browse listings on their website — privacy and exclusivity are paramount. Membership is by invitation and referral only. But for those privileged few granted access to this gilded world of luxury travel, no dream is unattainable. One call to their personal travel advisors sets even the loftiest vacation desires in motion — after all, they have Jeff Bezos on speed dial. Exclusive Resorts makes the fantasy vacations of billionaires and titans of industry an everyday reality.

Frette Linens

For those who crave the ultimate indulgence between their Italian percale sheets, there is one iconic luxury name that promises unparalleled comfort and extravagance: Frette. This storied Italian linen company has been clothing the beds of royalty, dignitaries, and the wealthy elite since 1860.

One touch of their exquisite bed sheets, with a 280-thread count woven from the world’s finest long-staple Egyptian cotton, and you’ll be hooked. But be prepared to pay for the privilege. Their sheet sets start at around $4,000, while their prized Belgian linen duvet covers can fetch up to $25,000. They offer over 20 choices of fabric, including the softest cottons and silkiest linens, in the industry’s highest thread counts.
