Oceanfast Luxury Superyacht BIG SKY Sold
Posted July 1, 2021 in Brokerage & New Build by Janine St.Denis
Northrop & Johnson is proud to announce the sale of the 157-foot (48m) Oceanfast superyacht BIG SKY by Yacht Brokers Wes Sanford and Ann Avery, acting on behalf of the seller.
BIG SKY was launched in 2010 by her acclaimed builder Oceanfast. The yacht, which features a beam of 28 feet (8.53m) and an eight-foot (2.44m) draft is spacious and beautiful. She was built to Lloyds’ classification, is MCA compliant, and recently completed her 10-year Lloyds and class surveys. This fully equipped, turn-key charter yacht boasts an excellent charter history. BIG SKY was fully refitted in 2019. This major refit included an extensive interior makeover that focused on updating the spaces to create a modern, welcoming and chic atmosphere. Alder & Tweed Design Co. was brought in to help create custom built-in and loose furniture for the skylounge and main deck of BIG SKY. The yacht’s accommodations also were rearranged and updated to create the ideal layout for on-water living. Guests cruising aboard BIG SKY will enjoy comfort thanks to the yacht’s Quantum Zero Speed, four-fin stabilizer system.
The interior spaces of BIG SKY are remarkable. The yacht’s main salon is full beam, ensuring an abundance of space for entertaining. Large windows and large sliding glass doors aft blur the lines between inside and out. Thanks to the yacht’s recent refit, the spaces feature contemporary styling that delights all who come aboard. Forward of the salon is a large dining table where guests can enjoy formal meals. The skylounge is the ultimate hangout aboard with its wet bar and comfortable seating. Aft on this deck is a large alfresco dining table.
The main deck also is home to the primary stateroom aboard BIG SKY. This full-beam stateroom features a continuation of the light, airy, contemporary atmosphere as the rest of the deck. It features a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a deep soaking tub. All additional staterooms of BIG SKY are located below deck. These include three queen staterooms and one full stateroom with a Pullman.
The exterior spaces of BIG SKY are ideally suited for on-water living at its finest. The yacht’s main deck aft has a cocktail area and accesses both the large swim platform and the bridge deck aft. The sundeck is where guests will spend most of their days enjoying the Jacuzzi, sunpads and full bar. This space can be converted to an outdoor cinema in the evenings.

My life in boats: Ray Bartoszek, owner of 48m Big Sky
Ray Bartoszek tells Grace Trofa about making memories with his family on board 48-metre Big Sky_, the superyacht named after his favourite ski resort in Montana._
I grew up in New York , went to the US Merchant Marine Academy and sailed on merchant vessels as an engineer and a deck cadet – I could go into the engine room and turn some wrenches, but I choose not to.
Big Sky is all we could have imagined and more. She's had a recent remodel of the interior; she is comfortable, warm and chic. We like to believe we have the most toys of any yacht this size – four Seabobs, a slide board, four jet skis, a 10-metre Nor-Tech tender, paddleboards and kite surfs.
I have six children. With my wife, Lydia, and all of us on board, we have shared many memorable moments. Watching my eight-year-old son Owen and my seven-year-old daughter Natalia jump off the 10-metre-high top deck is a moment I will never forget.
We have a schedule of six trips a year with time for eight to 10 charter trips. We picked up Big Sky in Europe and although we love cruising there, we all agreed the yacht would get more use in the Bahamas . Staniel Cay is where we usually anchor to have private beach moments with family, swim with sharks , visit Thunderball Grotto and have amazing warm-weather experiences. We have a private jet so just four-and-a-half hours after leaving Bozeman we are cruising on our yacht.
Our chefs do a lot of themed dinners with costumes, which the kids really enjoy, and later we watch movies under the stars. Right now, the bloom is not off the rose for Big Sky . We are all happy with the yacht, and watching our children grow up right in front of our eyes.
