This yacht was very sadly lost in Sept 2022 and we keep the listing alive in recognition of this lovely yacht’s legacy.

There are few yachts from this period that maintain their 1920s ambience so effectively with the facilities of the present era. An extensive refit at T Neilsen & Co in 2006, applied with full consideration both of her origin as to her usefulness, has kept HALCYON and her teak on oak structure in near perfect condition but with the systems and conveniences of a modern yacht seamlessly incorporated without detriment to her character.

While optimised for northern waters, she is superbly fitted to go anywhere, self sufficient as she is for cruising in comfort for a sustained period. She can therefore operate as a luxury charter yacht, accommodating up to 8 guests for overnight – or 11 guests on a day sail basis – say for corporate charters.

We therefore consider HALCYON an exciting option as a dramatic and unique private yacht or as a commercially viable luxury charter vessel – easier to sail and less delicate than comparable classics of her size, there is a toughness about HALCYON that could earn her the label of classic explorer yacht!

Originally built for Sir Samuel Turner; Lancashire mill owner, mayor of Rochdale and later chairman of Turner and Newall, she was requisitioned by the Royal Navy in 1941 as a barrage balloon tender in Plymouth and then as minesweeper flotilla flagship in Greece in 1945. Post war she was owned and chartered by Madame Renault – of the motor car dynasty – later to be bought by the Warsash School of Navigation.

Intended as a temporary replacement for the 1899 ketch MOYANA lost in a gale off the Scillies in 1956, HALCYON’s service was in fact to last over 30 years until sold off in 1988. During this time thousands of Merchant Navy officers served their apprenticeships aboard, in navigation, seamanship and watch keeping duties.

Since 1988 she has been in private hands and in 2006 underwent a very extensive refit at T Nielsen and Co Ltd, Gloucester. The aim throughout was to use only the very best quality materials and the craftsmanship exhibited by the multinational team of shipwrights at Nielsen’s is truly wonderful.

The refurbishment compliments the 1920s opulence with facilities more suited to present day expectations, such as modern heating, plentiful showers and WCs, up-to-date navigation and entertainment devices, capacious fridges and freezers. These have been seamlessly incorporated into the design and fabric without detriment to the exceptional character of such a classic yacht – now once more gracing the seas as she did in such style in 1929.

CONSTRUCTION

– Teak on Oak frames – Teak interior, teak deck with ply sub deck – Copper clad hull – Ash cheeked blocks and tackles

Steering is from the cockpit which has all navigation and pilotage data relayed to it. The deckhouse can seat guests in a light and airy location close to the action but out of the wind. It is also the central point for navigation, containing the chart table and the main navigation station. Stowed just forward of the deckhouse is the original clinker sailing dinghy and a modern RIB both launched by davits. A boarding ladder provides for simple and elegant embarkation

ACCOMMODATION AND DOMESTIC EQUIPMENT

Accommodation is frankly magnificent with berths for 8 for cruises or space for 11 on day charters – plus 4 crew persons all in 6 cabins.

From the deckhouse companionway steps descend with access below via doorways aft to the principal guest cabins, but forward to the spacious saloon, which opens out with seating and cabinets to port, fireplace and access forward with the dining table and U shaped sofa to starboard.

Forward again past the wood burning stove a doorway leads to the galley to port and an athwartships 2 berth up and over cabin to starboard

Forward to starboard is another twin up and over berth cabin.

Beyond are two head and shower compartments either side of the main mast The twin berth crew quarters are in the fore peak with washing machine, tumble dryer, water maker and their own crew access hatch.

Coming back aft through the galley and saloon at the foot of the companionway steps is a pair of wet lockers for oilskins, life jackets etc. The corridor aft leads to the guest cabins; twin berth to port and double to starboard, both with en suite head and shower.

Fully aft and also with separate access aft is the well appointed captain’s cabin with double berth and en suite head.

REFIT NOTES

A new Perkins 130 HP diesel was fitted together with a new generator and all new electrical, navigation, communication, entertainment and plumbing systems were installed. After a thorough inspection the hull has been re-sheathed in copper and her topsides repainted (pictures showing) and new stanchion posts and shroud plates fitted.

A new interior layout has been installed in teak for the forward guest accommodation to complement the original saloon and main cabins. The crew’s quarters have been fitted out in white painted tongue and groove.

Other key works included – Masts and spars stripped, re varnished and all the metal fittings re galvanised and repainted – Original hydraulic windlass re galvanised and restored – Standing rigging replaced with new galvanised wire – All running rigging and wooden blocks replaced – Sails refurbished as needed and a suit of cruising sails provided – Original 12 foot sailing dinghy restored, carried on deck, launched by the original davits

34m Sanlorenzo motor yacht Halcyon listed for sale

The 34.1-metre Sanlorenzo motor yacht Halcyon is newly listed for sale with David Westwood and Michael Fonda of TWW Yachts.

Built in La Spezia by Sanlorenzo in 2018, the GRP vessel has been designed to American specifications complete with shore power frequency converters for European use. Exterior design is courtesy of Francesco Paszkowski .

Accommodation is for up to 12 across five cabins, including the master suite on the main deck forward, two double cabins and two twins complete with Pullman beds. Further accommodation sleeps a crew of up to seven.

Interior design is owed to Marty Lowe , who has opted for a casual beach house aesthetic. A light, neutral colour palette is combined with wicker armchairs, nautical-themed throws and bedsheets and pebble mosaic feature walls. Design features such as the main saloon’s open balcony and the formal dining room’s 180-degree sliding glass partition facilitate connection with the outdoors.

Deck highlights include a large jacuzzi on the sundeck surrounded by sunpads and a wide collection of toys and tenders including slides, Jet Skis, inflatables, dive gear and a floating platform. Ample lounge spaces can be found across both decks, with the top deck featuring a convivial area complete with sofa seating and television. A complementary television is found by the jacuzzi, allowing for dual viewing.

Powered by two Caterpillar Acert C32 engines, Halcyon can reach top speeds of 18 knots and a range of 2,750 nautical miles when paired back to 11 knots.

A 2.06-metre draft allows this yacht for sale to access hard-to-reach anchorages.

The 85-foot (26.1m) HALCYON DAYS is the perfect adventure yacht. Not only is she capable of worldwide cruising, but she also offers extreme comfort for her owners and guests.

HALCYON DAYS was built by Jongert in the mid-1980s and underwent an extensive refit in 2007, which included a significant redesign of her interior spaces. Her galley was brought up from below decks and a fourth stateroom, additional head, and media room added in the galley’s place. Additionally, the aft deck was extended four feet into the cockpit to allow for more space and private crew accommodations. The yacht's engine room was gutted and rebuilt with all new equipment, rendering her in fully restored condition with a solid structure and mechanics.

HALCYON DAYS is a classic, traditional yacht that is well suited for family or charter use. Her beautiful interior is elegantly styled with a warm Sapele woodwork, a Mahogany inlaid bar, marble countertops, and Wolf stainless steel appliances. 

Motor yacht HALCYON DAYS offers four guest cabins with en-suite facilities. Her owner’s suite is full beam with a king-size bed. It boasts an entertainment center, lady’s vanity, two-seat settee, and a lavish marble bath with a Jacuzzi tub. Below deck forward, two guest staterooms are beautifully styled with en-suite baths. A VIP cabin is located aft with ample storage and a queen-size bed. The media room converts into a fifth cabin, allowing for more guests.

Walk through.

Entering HALCYON DAYS through the aft French doors, you will find yourself in an elegant salon that gives a stunning impression as she is fabricated with warm sapele woodwork. On the port side of the salon, there is an L-shaped couch for comfortable lounging. To starboard, disguised by the cabinetry below, there is a Plasma TV with an entertainment center. The windows on both sides of the salon may be lowered for you to enjoy a nice, natural sea breeze.

As you enter via the aft French doors, you will notice a curved staircase to the port side. This will take you down to the delightful full-beam master stateroom. Flowing along the staircase structure, and through the master, is the same rich sapele paneling as the salon. This master stateroom features a king berth and three hanging closets with ample cupboard and drawer storage. There is a TV with a DVD player mounted on the wall to starboard. To port, there is a lady's vanity with a stool. Adjoining the berth's night table is a two-seat settee. The marble-lined master bath includes a Jacuzzi tub and toilet, bidet, shower, and sink. All fittings have gold finishes. At the end of the master stateroom's companionway, you may access the engine room.

Forward of the salon, and to starboard, you will notice the mahogany inlaid bar as it is equipped with a sink and includes plenty of storage for glassware, wine, etc.

Fore of the inlaid bar, you will be approaching the buffet bar and well-furnished galley.

Forward of the galley is the pilothouse where the remaining staterooms are accessible. To port and forward is the guest stateroom that features twin berths and a pullman. Also, this stateroom is equipped with drawer storage and a hanging closet. Outboard, you will see a built-in TV/DVD and sound system. The guest bath is located forward with a tiled, circular shower, toilet, and sink.

To starboard is a second guest stateroom with a double berth and upper single berth. This stateroom also has drawer storage and a hanging closet. The ensuite bath is similar to that on the opposite to port. The two guest staterooms are paneled with hand-rubbed teak.

The VIP stateroom is aft of the foyer to starboard. This stateroom features a queen berth, night table, storage, a hanging locker, and an ensuite head/shower.

Across the way is a study/media room which can be converted into a fourth guest cabin. In this entertainment area, you will find a Plasma TV with a DVD player and a U-shaped settee.

Back up to the helm, there is a unique double bench seat that is able to slide forward at the helmsman's leisure. There are cabinets on either side of the helm for extra storage space. Starboard of the helm controls is a chart table with a seat and storage for a collection of charts. The communication center is located about-face of the chart table on the bulkhead.

The flybridge can be accessed from the port-side ladder in the pilothouse. The flybridge is a generously spacious area where you can enjoy sunbathing, fresh air, and spectacular views of all in which you are surrounded by. Over the helm is a bimini with a double-arch mast. Lounging is provided to port and starboard of the helm, with storage areas below.

To the port aft end of the flybridge you can descend down to the aft deck where you will notice a large settee and table - a luxurious ambiance to relax or enjoy outdoor dining.

To port of the aft deck, there is a curved staircase leading down to the cockpit area. Facing forward, there is a hatch that, if opened, reveals the captain's cabin. In the cabin is a queen-size berth and an ensuite head/shower.

The foredeck can be accessed via sidedecks on the port and starboard sides. Extra storage is provided, along with two lounge seats.

Mechanical Equipment And Engine Details

In 2004, new twin 250 HP 3306 BTA Caterpillar main engines were installed (617hrs 5/16). You can access the engine room from the master stateroom's companionway or through a door from the side deck. This is large, walk-in engine room has a walkway in the center and has a stainless steel work bench.

There are five (5) fuel tanks - including a day tank that has auto fill - with a manifold system, plus a  250 litre clean lube oil tank and 250 litre dirty oil lube tank with an oil change system and pump . This system makes it easy to transfer fuel each tank or to the day tank. The bilge pump system installed is able to service five (5) locations aboard the boat which are alarmed automatically if there is any water intrusion. There are two additional systems that back this system. Also, there is a separate pumping system for the two gray water tanks.

Integral tanks within the vessel’s hull envelope provide additional hull structure.

HALCYON was delivered in 2018 and is a Sanlorenzo SD112. Her interior styling is inspired by a Beach house, with light décor throughout. Her shallow draft of 2.06m makes her the perfect yacht for cruising both the Mediterranean and Florida and the Caribbean.

HALCYON can sleep 12 guests in total, with a layout consisting of five suites: a master suite on the main deck forward, two double cabins and two twins both complete with pullman bunks.

Westerly Konsort Duo

Built in 1985 with a 2011 Beta 30hp engine. Bilge keel, furling in mast mail sail, lines all lead to the cockpit so easy to handle, 5 berths, wheelhouse/tiller steering, GPS, radar, VHF, depth/speed logs & repeater in cockpit, compass, rigging renewed in 2011, in good condition. There’s a very good 2013 survey available. Lying at Lymington.

Marine Trader 40 Trawler

Excellent motor cruising trawler yacht and/or very comfortable live aboard. Currently ashore completing refit in South Devon. This solid and safe family cruising vessel is now for sale following a change in plans by the owner. After being imported from the US, “Merry Mary” has received a complete refit from top to bottom and is now ready to start European cruising and is also suitable to be used as a very comfortable live aboard motor yacht.

Victoria 34

The Bowman 40 is a highly desirable blue water cruising yacht.  Yacht “MARDLER”, an excellent example of this pedigree vessel, was launched in March 1996 hull number 47.

Benetti 29.8m

FAVORITA is a fantastic yacht, being a fully refitted specimen of a Gentleman’s Navetta from the famous Benetti yard. This 98′ beauty was built in 1975, but has been refitted many times since and was almost (technically) rebuilt in 2010. Many items thus date from then and subsequent work, as late as 2013, whilst the original aspects have always been meticulously maintained.

The 41m/134'6" motor yacht 'Halcyon' (ex. White Rabbit) was built by Feadship in the Netherlands at their Aalsmeer shipyard. Her interior is styled by design house Larvor and she was completed in 1989. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of De Voogt and she was last refitted in 2011.

Guest Accommodation

Halcyon has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests in 5 suites comprising one VIP cabin. She is also capable of carrying up to 7 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

Her features include deck jacuzzi, WiFi and air conditioning.

Range & Performance

Halcyon is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3508 DITA) 770hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 10 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots with a range of up to 3,200 nautical miles from her 40,537 litre fuel tanks. Her water tanks store around 11,317 Litres of fresh water. She was built to ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) classification society rules, and is MCA Compliant.
