San Bernardo is a 44m Heesen built in 2010. She had an extensive refit in 2017 bringing her fully up to date.

With the finest interior and decorative finishes, this Heesen 44m has a unique style, beautiful furnishings and sumptuous interior features. This refurbished yacht will give you an elegant and comfortable atmosphere. With her impressive entertainment and leisure amenities she is perfect for long or short cruises with family and friends.  This Heesen 44m will take you to the next level of leisure and comfort with her spacious living areas and maximum speed of 25 knots.

Accommodation

San Bernardo accommodates 10-12 guests in 5 cabins. There is also room for 9 crew members in 5 cabins. 

The Master cabin located on the main deck which is accessed via a private office has a custom made silk carpet which feels like walking on a warm sandy beach, which is further complemented by rich and warm wood and fabric panels.

The walk-in wardrobe is neatly hidden and along with the other cabinets and stowages this provides plenty of valuable storage.

The spacious en-suite bathroom in the master suite provides double sinks, a big central shower and a bathtub with sea views.

Yep, we love it here so much that it was time to put roots down here. Let me share with you why we fell in love with the real Gulf Of Mexico’s Venice!

Hernando Beach History

Despite the name, Hernando Beach is a misnomer – there isn’t an actual beach. Instead, it is a waterfront canal community that has access to the Gulf of Mexico. Before the 1950’s Hernando Beach was wetlands. Charlie Sasser, a developer, purchased the area somewhere between 1959 and 1965 and then developed the area up until 1970.

Sasser developed 500 acres of marshy wetlands into waterfront lots. The lots were created using the earth dug out of mining operations along the coast and dredging.

Fast forward to 1971, when restrictions on wetland development stopped any future growth. The state claimed ownership of the wetlands Sasser was digging in, and the Army Corps of Engineers claimed Sasser didn’t have the proper permits.

Long story short, a legal battle ensued between Sasser, the state, and the Hernando County Commission. This resulted in Sasser building a dike around 144 acres he had begun developing 10 years earlier to separate it from the gulf. He was also ordered to restore the land to its natural state. In other words, while the development was initially legal, it was deemed illegal in 1971.

Many say this is the last community of its kind; some say it should not exist. I say thank goodness it does!

Why Hernando Beach, Florida?

I’ll be frank, like most of you, I have never even heard of this town. I stumbled upon it when searching for a boat. The boat search brought me to Hernando Beach, and we did our boat training out here. I’ve been addicted to boating for a while now but seeing the clear turquoise waters of Hernando Beach caught my attention – as did the proximity to the scallop patches that consume our summers.

The Three Sections of Hernando Beach

If you consider renting or moving to Hernando Beach, you need to understand how the community is set up. It’s divided into three sections, and while all can access the Gulf of Mexico, only one section- the North has direct access.

There are two separate canal systems. The northern canals are saltwater and have direct access to the Gulf of Mexico. The southern canals, which include the middle section, are mostly fresh water and do not have direct access to the Gulf of Mexico.

• The North: The northern section starts at Eagles Nest Drive to Companero Entra.
• The Middle: The middle section is all of the streets off Hermosa Blvd.
• The South: This south starts on Amberjack Drive and ends on Palameto Drive but is accessed from Bluefish Drive or Jew Fish Drive. This is the most underdeveloped section and stages some of the biggest homes in the area. The south is a deed-restricted comminute and has a mandatory homeowners association called Hernando Beach South Property Owners Association. Home and lot prices are lower in the south because of the lack of direct gulf access.

Boatlift of Hernando Beach

Residents of the middle and south sections access the Gulf of Mexico using the Hernando Beach boat lift. This is all the streets off Hermosa Blvd and in Hernando Beach South. The boatlift is a concrete plug – part of the berm that provides access to the saltwater canals and the Gulf of Mexico. Once you’ve passed over the boatlift, you then must go under the Companero Entra bridge. If you follow any of the groups on Facebook dedicated to Hernando Beach, you will have seen the questions around the boat ramp and accessibility.

I live in the North, so I personally don’t have to deal with the boatlift, but here are the typical things people want to know:

FAQs About Hernando’s Boatlift

Anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. It depends on if you are in the south or middle section.

The cradle is only about 9 ft wide.

You need a key – it’s private for residents only.

No, it uses a pully system.

Yes, however it sometimes breaks down. And, when it does, there is no access to the Gulf of Mexico.

Hernando Beach Flats

I think some would argue that this is one of the star attractions of Hernando Beach. Shallow sand bars glistening from the turquoise water make for a perfect boating day. And there’s no shortage of boats enjoying this oasis! I don’t think you can fully appreciate this coastal community until you’ve hit the flats. I consider the flats the crown jewel. If you were dropped off here blindfolded, you would swear you’re in the Caribbean or the Bahamas once revealed.

Most people stick to the main section where the barrier islands are directly next to the channel. We tend to cross the flats to the right and hang out at what locals call Gilligan’s Island. FYI, not sure if this is the real name or not.

Lastly, you’ve not experienced true Florida until you’ve ended your day with shrimp boats in the backdrop of a sunset.

Water Floats & Mats You Need To Enjoy The Flats

Springs & state parks.

Hernando County is home to some of the most stunning state parks and springs . If hitting the flats is not your thing, don’t worry. There’s plenty more to see and do!

Roger’s Park

Three acres along the Weeki Wachee River , with a boat launch, swimming beach & manatee sightings. This is only a few miles away from Hernando Beach. Kayaking or floating down this river is a treat; it’s reminiscent of days gone by. It’s so untouched by modern amenities it almost feels like Disney created this place to reflect the past. It’s no recreation – it’s Florida untouched.

Weeki Wachee Springs (Weeki Wachee Springs State Park)

This is the only place in America where you can see real live mermaids! It’s a personal favorite of mine! And it’s the home of Buccaneer Bay Waterpark, a real old-fashioned watering hole with slides.

Linda Pedersen Park

This is a sandy recreational area that allows swimming in places. The Park also offers fishing, an observation tower, picnicking, and amenities such as showers, playground, grills, a community building, and restrooms. It’s very common to see manatees in Jenkins Creek.

Hernando County Beaches

As mentioned in the beginning, Hernando Beach is not a traditional beach community – it’s a canal community with access to the Gulf of Mexico.

Alfred A McKethan Pine Island Park

This is the only public beach in Hernando County. Cross barrier islands and salt marshes to reach this little beach island. Or drive your boat up here if you are adventurous, kayak your way up here. This park includes a beach and swimming area, picnic tables, shelters, barbecue grills, observation point, volleyball court, playground, and concession stand. Pavilions are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Scalloping Out Of Hernando Beach

We’ve been scalloping for seven years now, and we discovered the Hernando patches a few years ago. Our journey  scalloping out of Hernando Beach  started by renting a home out here. Not only is there little to no traffic compared to the northern spots, but it’s also an amazing place to scallop out of. As you can see, we do quite well:

It’s also worth mentioning that tons of people choose to go out of Bayport. We have had loads of luck in Bayport, but we drive the boat up there.

I’ve personally used Friendly Mobile Kayaks. I found them on Facebook, and they saved what would have been a flop! We had tried to rent from Weeki Wachee River Rentals, but they were sold out. Not only did Cameron deliver the kayaks right to us, but they are the most economical option in the area. We only paid $25 per day per kayak. And, returning them was easy. We texted Cameron, who then met us to pick up the kayaks. It’s also worth noting that they also rent clear kayaks.

If I’ve not convinced you yet that Hernando Beach is The Gulf Of Mexico’s Venice, I’m not sure you can be convinced! This is a treasure trove for those who have had the pleasure.  A community that can’t be replicated. Daily you’ll see dolphins, stingrays, sharks, turtles (including loggerheads), and the most breathtaking sunsets that the gulf has to offer.

And, this is also one of the most affordable places to buy waterfront property on the west coast of Florida! I looked for two years then found the one. Zero regrets me, and I am still shocked at how inexpensive a slice of heaven is.

We left this morning after a 3 week stay at a Hernando Beach Airbnb. We have visited the Springhill area for the past 6 years staying 1-2 weeks at a time. This time, staying in Hernando, was by far our favorite. This friendly, quite little area has left us wanting more. We are a short few years away from moving to Fl and when we do you can bet this will be the first choice.

Thank you for this article, I thought it was spot on and only wish I would have found it before we came for our stay. My only question was regarding the central and south residents. Since we had to cross the Compenero Entra bridge every time we went to our home, we couldn’t help wondering how anyone with a boat larger than a canoe could get under that bridge and into the gulf access? It didin’t seem possible. I understand the manual boat lift to get over the berm and timing it with low tide but even that seems impossible. Would love it if you could post pics or a video of someone going under.

FYI Hernando Beach is not a beach. Nor are there any white sands where children can play in Hernando Beach. I have lived in this area for 38 years . It is a series of man made canals that were dredged by the county,

De bouw vond plaats tussen de 14e en 17e eeuw en het ontwerp was in handen van uitstekende Russische en buitenlandse architecten. Binnen de muren van het Kremlin vindt men een reeks meesterwerken qua architectuur, maar ook beeldende kunst en religieuze monumenten van uitzonderlijke schoonheid. Aan de voet van de stadsmuren, op het Rode Plein, bevindt zich een van de mooiste Russisch-orthodoxe monumenten, de Pokrovkathedraal ook wel Basiliuskathedraal genoemd.

Outstanding Universal Value

Brief synthesis

At the geographic and historic centre of Moscow, the Moscow Kremlin is the oldest part of the city. First mentioned in the Hypatian Chronicle in 1147 as a fortification erected on the left bank of the Moskva river by Yuri Dolgoruki, Prince of Suzdal, the Kremlin developed and grew with settlements and suburbs which were further surrounded by new fortifications - Kitaigorodsky Wall, Bely Gorod, Zemlyanoy Gorod and others. This determined a radial and circular plan of the centre of Moscow typical of many other Old Russian cities.

In 13th century the Kremlin was the official residence of supreme power - the center of temporal and spiritual life of the state. The Kremlin of the late 15th – early 16th century is one of the major fortifications of Europe (the stone walls and towers of present day were erected in 1485–1516). It contains an ensemble of monuments of outstanding quality.

The most significant churches of the Moscow Kremlin are situated on the Cathedral Square; they are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki. Almost all of them were designed by invited Italian architects which is clearly seen in their architectural style. The five-domed Assumption Cathedral (1475–1479) was built by an Italian architect Aristotele Fiorvanti. Its interior is decorated with frescos and a five-tier iconostasis (15th–17th century). The cathedral became the major Russian Orthodox church; a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars and emperors as well as the shrine for metropolitans and patriarchs.

In the same square another Italian architect, Alevisio Novi, erected the five-domed Church of the Archangel in 1505-1508. From the 17th to 19th century, its interior was decorated by wonderful frescos and an iconostasis. In this church many great princes and tsars of Moscow are buried. Among them are Ivan I Kalita, Dmitri Donskoi, Ivan III, Ivan IV the Terrible, Mikhail Fedorovich and Alexei Mikhailovich Romanovs.

The Cathedral of the Dormition was built by Pskov architects in 1484–1489. Inside the cathedral some mural paintings of 16th–19th century have been preserved and the icons of Andrei Rublev and Theophanes the Greek are part of the iconostasis.

In 1505-1508 the bell tower of Ivan Veliki was built. Being 82 metres high it was the highest building in Russia which became the focal point of the Kremlin ensemble.

Among the oldest civil buildings of the Moscow Kremlin, the Palace of the Facets (1487–1491) is the most remarkable. Italian architects Marco Fryazin and Pietro Antonio Solario built it as a great hall for holding state ceremonies, celebrations and for receiving foreign ambassadors. The most noteworthy civil construction of the 17th century built by Russian masters is the Teremnoi Palace.

From the early 18th century, when the capital of Russia moved to St. Petersburg, the Kremlin mainly played a ceremonial role with religious functions. By the end of the century the architectural complex of the Kremlin expanded with the Arsenal reconstructed after the Fire of 1797 by Matvei Kazakov. The Senate was built in 1776–1787 according to the plans of the same architect as the home of the highest agency of State power of the Russian Empire - the Ruling Senate. Today it is the residence of the President of Russia.

From 1839 to 1849 a Russian architect K.A. Thon erected the Great Kremlin Palace as a residence of the imperial family which combined ancient Kremlin buildings such as the Palace of the Facets, the Tsarina’s Golden Chamber, Master Chambers, the Teremnoi Palace and the Teremnoi churches. In the Armory Chamber built by K.A. Thon within the complex of the Great Kremlin Palace, there is a 16th century museum officially established by the order of Alexander I in 1806.

Red Square, closely associated with the Kremlin, lies beneath its east wall. At its south end is the famous Pokrovski Cathedral (Cathedral of St Basil the Blessed), one of the most beautiful monuments of Old Russian church architecture, erected in 1555–1560 to commemorate the victory of Ivan the Terrible over the Kazan Khanate. In the 17th century the cathedral gained its up-to-date appearance thanks to the decorative finishing of the domes and painting both inside and outside the cathedral. The construction of Red Square was finished by the late 19th century together with the erection of the Imperial Historic Museum (today the State Historical Museum), the Upper Trading Rows (GUM) and the Middle Trading Rows. In 1929, , Lenin’s Mausoleum, designed by A.V. Shchusev and an outstanding example of the Soviet monumental architecture, was finished.

Criterion (i) : The Kremlin contains within its walls a unique series of masterpieces of architecture and the plastic arts. There are religious monuments of exceptional beauty such as the Church of the Annunciation, the Cathedral of the Dormition, the Church of the Archangel and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki; there are palaces such as the Great Palace of the Kremlin, which comprises within its walls the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin and the Teremnoi Palace. On Red Square is Saint Basil the Blessed, still a major edifice of Russian Orthodox art.

Criterion (ii) : Throughout its history, Russian architecture has clearly been affected many times by influences emanating from the Kremlin. A particular example was the Italian Renaissance. The influence of the style was clearly felt when Rudolfo Aristotele Fioravanti built the Cathedral of the Dormition (1475-79) and grew stronger with the construction of the Granovitaya Palace (Hall of the Facets, 1487-91) by Marco Fryazin and Pietro Antonio Solario. Italian Renaissance also influenced the towers of the fortified enceinte, built during the same period by Solario, using principles established by Milanese engineers (the Nikolskaya and the Spasskaya Towers both date from 1491). The Renaissance expression was even more present in the classic capitals and shells of the Church of the Archangel, reconstructed from 1505 to 1509 by Alevisio Novi.

Criterion (iv) : With its triangular enceinte pierced by four gates and reinforced with 20 towers, the Moscow Kremlin preserves the memory of the wooden fortifications erected by Yuri Dolgoruki around 1156 on the hill at the confluence of the Moskova and Neglinnaya rivers (the Alexander Garden now covers the latter). By its layout and its history of transformations (in the 14th century Dimitri Donskoi had an enceinte of logs built, then the first stone wall), the Moscow Kremlin is the prototype of a Kremlin - the citadel at the centre of Old Russian towns such as Pskov, Tula, Kazan or Smolensk.

Criterion (vi) : From the 13th century to the founding of St Petersburg, the Moscow Kremlin was directly and tangibly associated with every major event in Russian history. A 200-year period of obscurity ended in 1918 when it became the seat of government again. The Mausoleum of Lenin on Red Square is the Soviet Union’s prime example of symbolic monumental architecture. To proclaim the universal significance of the Russian revolution, the funerary urns of heroes of the revolution were incorporated into the Kremlin’s walls between the Nikolskaya and Spasskaya towers. The site thus combines in an exceptional manner the preserved vestiges of bygone days with present-day signs of one of the greatest events in modern history.

From the date of including the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square on the World Heritage List all the components representing the Outstanding Universal Value of the property are within its boundaries. The territory and the integrity of the World Heritage property have also remained unchanged. Within its boundaries the property still comprises all the elements that it contained at the date of nomination. The biggest threat, however, is unregulated commercial development of the adjacent areas.

Authenticity

The history of the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square is reflected in the archival documents of 12th–19th century, for example in medieval chronicles, cadastral surveys, estimated construction books, painted lists, inventories, foreign notes and in graphic matters such as manuscripts, chronicles, plans, drafts, engravings, lithographs, sketches of foreign travelers, paintings and photographs. These documents are exceptionally valuable information sources. Comparison of the data received from archival documents and those obtained in the process of field study gives the idea of authenticity of  the property and its different elements. This comparison also serves as the basis for project development and for the choice of the appropriate methods of restoration that may preserve the monuments’ authenticity.

On the border of the ensemble a number of monuments destroyed in the 1930s were reconstructed according to measured plans.

Protection and management requirements

The statutory and institutional framework of an effective protection, management and improvement of the World Heritage property “Kremlin and Red Square, Moscow” has been established by laws and regulations of the Russian Federation and the city of Moscow.

According to the decree of the President of RSFSR of 18 December 1991 № 294, the Moscow Kremlin was included among especially protected cultural properties of nations of Russia - the highest conservation status for cultural and historical monuments in Russian legislation.

“Kremlin and Red Square, Moscow” is a Cultural Heritage Site of federal importance. State protection and management of federal sites is provided by Federal Law of 25.06.2002 № 73-FZ “On cultural heritage sites (historical and cultural monuments) of nations of the Russian Federation”. The federal executive body responsible for protection of the cultural property is the Department for Control, Supervision and Licensing in the Cultural Heritage Sphere of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.It is in charge of all methodological and control functions concerning restoration, usage and support of cultural heritage sites and the territories connected.

The World Heritage property is situated in the urban environment of Moscow. The city policy regarding cultural heritage protection and town-planning regulation is the responsibility of Moscow City Government, represented by the Department of Cultural Heritage, the Department of Urban Development and the Committee for Urban Development and Architecture of Moscow. In 1997 the boundaries of the protective (buffer) zone were approved in order to preserve the property, and to maintain and restore the historical architectural environment as well as the integral visual perception of the property.. There is a need to ensure the creation of an appropriate buffer zone and to develop close liaison between all stakeholders, including the Moscow City authorities, to ensure that constructions around the property do not impact adversely on its Outstanding Universal Value.

The World Heritage property is used by the following organizations: FGBUK (Federal Government Budgetary Institution of Culture), the State Historical and Cultural Museum-preserve “The Moscow Kremlin”, the Administrative Department of the President of the Russian Federation, the Federal Guard Service of the Russian Federation and OJSC “GUM Department Store”.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

Best food, best view in Moscow. absolutely faultless from arrival to finish. Best risotto i had for many years absolutely perfectly cooked. The view on Ukrainian hotel and the white house by night is amazing

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Food is very expensive,very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.

I often visit this restaurant and must say it’s one of the best in Moscow in terms of quality and service. Staff really try hard to make sure that you are happy and satisfied. Customer service is a huge problem in Moscow but Chaika sets... a great example for others in the industry! Food is delicious and the menu has lots of options for everyone! Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. The luxurious atmosphere of this place, the view and the location make it quite outstanding. We had dinner here with friends and the dishes were amazing, accompanied by a chilled bottle of Chablis, it really made me feel as if it was a part of... the classic Russian movie. More
