Hanse yacht in production

Profile of HanseYachts AG

Developed by sailors. Tested on the Baltic Sea. Sold across the world. Since its founding in 1990, HanseYachts AG – which now encompasses  six brands  – has become one of the biggest manufacturers of seagoing, series-produced  sailing yachts  and  motor yachts . HanseYachts AG went public in 2007 (General Standard); around 23.23% of its shares are currently freely traded. In 2011, Munich-based Aurelius AG became the majority shareholder and currently holds around 76.77% of issued shares.

Second-biggest yacht-builder in the world

Second-biggest yacht-builder in the world

In terms of the number of yachts sold worldwide, HanseYachts AG is the second-biggest manufacturer of  sailing yachts  in the world. In the market for recreational motor yachts, the company is now among the top 10 providers worldwide. Production takes place at the two locations in Greifswald (Germany) and Goleniów (Poland).

Direct access to the Baltic Sea

Direct access to the Baltic Sea allows HanseYachts AG to test its range of sailing yachts and motor yachts under real-life conditions. Each new product undergoes extensive testing before being placed on the market. These test results are instantly and directly incorporated in ongoing product development. New materials and components are tested on water, not just under laboratory conditions.

Some customers travel all the way to the shipyard itself to pick up their new yacht before sailing back home, wherever that may be in the world. A crane carefully positions the sailing yachts, motor yachts on the water for the first time after they leave the production halls. For sailing yachts, the mast is set and all the rigging is installed on site.

Own production sites

Our own production sites enable fast response times and highly efficient manufacturing. The entire GRP production is carried out to the highest standards of craftsmanship by experienced specialists. The production process ranges from the lamination of small parts and the fabrication of hulls using the laying-by-hand technique to weight-optimised vacuum infusion for specialised yacht types.

At HanseYachts AG's headquarters in Greifswald (Germany), all wood and interior components are manufactured in-house. Ultra-modern state-of-the-art equipment featuring CNC milling machines ensures that the parts get cut to the exact millimetre. Highly trained specialists assemble the furniture by hand. The final assembly of the sailing and motor yachts gets carried out in a most cost-effective manner on the production lines.

The production site in Poland The beginnings of the Polish branch date back to 1995 - initially under the name Technologie Tworzyw Sztucznych (TTS) . Since then, yacht construction elements such as hulls, decks and floors have been manufactured here. In 2006, the company joined the HanseYachts capital group. The steadily increasing demand for the products led to the factory being moved to a new location in the Goleniów Industrial Park in Łozienica in 2008. A specially adapted, modern production hall for the manufacture of laminates was built there. As a result, our employees work under safe conditions and at the same time protect the environment.  The last few years of our work have been characterised by continuous development. Two warehouses were built in Łozienica, a laboratory and a design studio were expanded.

In 2015 and 2021, we also built two more production halls, where the assembly work for the final finishing of the yachts ready for sale is carried out.  Currently, we offer lamination, yacht fittings as well as the assembly of water, electrical and gas installations, engines, navigation and steering equipment and other equipment required for a yacht. Currently, six yacht models of the Dehler, SEALINE and RYCK brands are manufactured entirely in Łozienica. This means that they can be delivered directly from there to the customer or dealer. The dynamic development and the great interest in the products lead, among other things, to a significant increase in jobs.

The year 2022 marks another milestone: as a long-standing member of HanseYachts AG, the company name was changed to HanseYachts Sp. z o. o. to underline its affiliation to the group.

Own development locations

One of HanseYachts AG’s biggest strengths is that we have our own development team as well as our own model and mould construction team. A team comprising 40 designers, engineers and technicians, all of whom are consummate masters in their fields and possess many years of experience. Our teams work alongside renowned yacht designers to create  sailing yachts  and  motor yachts  with a focus on quality and function – from the interior fittings and deck layout to the engine and air-conditioning system. Two in-house, five-axle CNC mills turn our virtual models into reality and are capable of machining components measuring up to 6 by 16 metres. High quality yacht-building starts by only using the best tools.

As a new design and development centre, the Baltic Design Institute in Szczecin complements the development department at HanseYachts AG's headquarters and offers additional expertise in the sectors of yacht design and structural dimensioning. The team of highly qualified employees has many years of international professional experience in yacht design as well as in the marine industry. The close cooperation of all development instances enables the creation of new, forward-looking products.

Premium suppliers

In addition to the components that we produce in-house, we also enlist the services of premium suppliers. We use engines from Volvo, Yanmar and Mercury; navigation electronics from B&G, Garmin and Raymarine; sails from Elvström and Quantum; heating systems from Eberspächer and Webasto; masts from Seldén and Z Spars; fittings from Harken and Lewmar; and running rigging from Liros. When HanseYachts AG selects its suppliers, three factors are non-negotiable: high quality, reliable deliveries with consistent quality and comprehensive after-sales service for end customers.

National Ag Week 2024: Growing a climate for tomorrow

Ag Week 2024

CFANS celebrates National Ag Week from March 17 –24, 2024, "Growing a Climate for Tomorrow."

CFANS students, faculty and alumni work to find solutions for a changing climate and how it affects agricultural industries in Minnesota and across the globe.

"For generations, agriculture and food systems have been at the heart of Minnesota, fueling our state’s economy and providing nourishment worldwide. Today, we have the distinct opportunity to make Minnesota the global leader in advancing food and agriculture research, education and outreach," said Dean Brian Buhr.

“More and more students and individuals are finding careers in agriculture. The industry needs scientists, biologists, food safety technicians, livestock nutrition specialists, arborists and conservationists – one doesn’t have to be a farmer or have a direct on-farm job to be involved in the agriculture industry,” said Agriculture Council of America (ACA) President Jenny Pickett.

An ambassador for Midwest agriculture

Ashley Hagenow

Upon graduating from CFANS, Ashley Hagenow ('23 AECM) was crowned Alice in Dairyland , a one-year appointment as the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture's official ambassador.

"I am learning so much about the diversity and abundance of Wisconsin agriculture through industry tours, attending statewide events focused on agriculture, and creating content to share with audiences about agriculture, so I truly feel like a student in this role just as much as I do an educator or a public relations professional."

"Serving as Alice is such a humbling experience because I know that I was chosen for a reason to represent Wisconsin’s $104.8 billion agriculture industry, and each day I am reminded of the importance of this position to the state of Wisconsin and the agriculture industry," said Hagenow.

"Agvocate" aims high

Megan Meyer

Growing up on a farm, Megan Meyer developed a strong sense of leadership, inspired by the trailblazing efforts of the farmers before her and shaped by her unique experiences. She someday hopes to continue the family legacy. She transferred from Iowa State University to the University of Minnesota and found a perfect career fit in the Agricultural Communication and Marketing major .

“Being a Meyer, it’s all about being proud of where you came from and having a lot of pride in your farm,” Meyer said. Read more about her goals for the future of agriculture.

An ag enthusiast and regenerative farmer

Jared Luhman

AECM alumnus and regenerative farmer Jared Luhman has hosted metro high school students for farm tours as a part of Farm Camp Minnesota, giving students insights into the process of raising beef cattle and were introduced to different soil health principles that are important on his family's farm.

" This is what we mean by regenerative agriculture. It’s agriculture done in a way that actually improves the soil and moves us closer to the way it was when nature was in control. We will never be in a world allowed to be completely managed by nature again, however, we can mimic those natural systems as much as possible," said Luhman.

Solar plus cows = green dairy

Brad Heins

Brad Heins is an associate professor of organic-dairy management at the West Central Research and Outreach Center . He has since 2017 utilized agrivoltaics at the center’s research dairy farm to make it carbon-neutral.

"Agrivoltaics is the use of land for both agriculture and solar-photovoltaic energy generation. Solar grazing is a variation where livestock graze in and around solar panels. The system looks at agriculture and solar-energy production as complementary to one another. By allowing working lands to stay working, agrivoltaic systems could help farms diversify income. Other benefits include energy resilience and a reduced carbon footprint." Read more in Agri-View .

Advancing agriculture

Ag

In Advancing Agriculture , members of CFANS’ Black community share their pathways in agriculture. From student researchers to faculty members and alumni, their contributions have an impact here in Minnesota and around the world.

"The ability of emerging farmers to successfully grow culturally relevant crops is critical to Minnesota agriculture," said Jessica Barbosa Oliveira, master's student in Land and Atmospheric Sciences developing nutrient recommendations for East African crops that have cultural value for immigrant farmers in Minnesota.

During National Ag Week, CFANS celebrates all of the farmers, farmworkers, ranchers, fishers, foresters and other agricultural workers who do so much to make our nation strong, fuel our economy and steward our lands.

‘Total Disgrace’: Anger, Frustration as Mass Heating Failures Across Russia Leave Thousands in the Cold

P ODOLSK, Moscow region – Residents throughout Russia affected by unprecedented winter heating outages in recent days have expressed their frustration and urged local authorities to restore heating in their homes.

In Podolsk, a town some 30 kilometers south of the capital Moscow, at least 149,000 residents — nearly half of its population — were left without heating when a heating main burst at a nearby private ammunition plant.

“It’s a total disgrace. There is no heating and no hot water. We have to sleep in sleeping bags,” Yuri, a local resident, told The Moscow Times.

“I have no words to describe how bad the situation is," said Yuri, who declined to provide his surname. "We have had no heating for almost six days."

Heating issues have affected residents in the Moscow region, where temperatures have plunged to as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius in the past week, as well as people in the Far East Primorye region , the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg , Penza , the southern Voronezh and Volgograd regions and more.

In the Tver region, a group of residents filmed an appeal to President Vladimir Putin, saying that they “are freezing from the cold” in the village of Novozavidovsky.

“We're literally being killed by the cold,” a woman in the video said, adding that they have been sending requests to local authorities since September after their houses were connected to a boiler room whose power was reportedly insufficient.

“This is some kind of torture and extermination of the population 100 kilometers from Moscow,” she added.

Residents of the Moscow region town of Elektrostal lit a fire in the street to draw the authorities’ attention to the heating problem.

“It’s impossible to stay in our houses. We're freezing!” a group of women in the video said.

Suffering from subzero temperatures, residents are placing the blame on local authorities and utility services for failing to take necessary precautions and not taking action to resolve the situation.

“We are sending complaints everywhere but no one listens to us. We have portable heaters working in every room, but the temperature inside is still 10 degrees Celsius,” Yelena from Podolsk said.

“There is a clinic and a hospital, as well as kindergartens, where there is no heating. And we have no answers, no assistance, no explanation,” Yelena added.

Podolsk authorities opened temporary heating centers and declared a state of emergency.

Local authorities linked the heating problems to the fact that the town is heated by a boiler plant owned by the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant, a private ammunition factory and one of the largest weapon cartridge production enterprises in the country.

“The facility is under tight security conditions, which limits our ability to oversee winter preparations,” the Moscow region’s Vice Governor Yevgeny Khromushin said last week. “We were unaware of the problem for nearly a day.”

An unidentified Moscow region official and two senior executives at the plant were arrested on suspicion of providing unsafe services, Russia’s Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, said in a statement Tuesday.

Investigators said that Podolsk’s deputy mayor was accused of misusing authority by issuing a readiness certificate for the boiler house at the plant.

In the neighboring Tver region, the authorities opened a criminal case over the laundering of over 84 million rubles ($938,993) in heating bills paid by residents, the Astra Telegram channel reported this week, citing unidentified sources. According to investigators, the heads of the local water intake and boiler house misappropriated the heating payments for personal use.

Reacting to the heating failures, Putin on Tuesday asked Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov to provide heat and electricity to the affected residents.

The outages appear to be the latest effect of several decades of crumbling infrastructure in Russia which have been linked to endemic corruption and mismanagement.

The overall decay of Russia's municipal infrastructure surpassed 70% in 2022, the pro-Kremlin newspaper Izvestia reported .

According to Sergei Pakhomov, head of the State Duma’s Construction, Housing and Utilities Committee, water pipes that were 90 years old or even older were still in use as recently as two years ago in some cases.

Housing, utilities and communal services are a common source of problems for Russians during the winter.

In St. Petersburg, residents regularly complain about extensive ice coverage on city streets and sidewalks, with many people ending up in the hospital over the years due to slipping and falling accidents.

In the Siberian republic of Khakassia, two villages were left without electricity last month due to apparent issues with outdated communication systems.

In the winter of 2020, five people in the Perm region were killed after a pipe burst.

When asked about the latest heating outages, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the problems and linked them to poor municipal infrastructure, saying that people “had to endure a lot of inconvenience in the cold and without electricity.”

"Despite all the titanic efforts to update all housing and communal services systems, there's still a certain part that remains considerably deteriorated. These programs will continue, but it is impossible to update all pipes and all housing and communal services systems in 10-15 years,” Peskov said.

As for now, residents affected by heating issues appear to lack optimism that the problems will be solved efficiently.

"It's been a week since we've had heating, and the temperature in my apartment is around 11 degrees Celsius,” Podolsk resident Lidiya told The Moscow Times.

“Unfortunately, no one knows when it will be repaired,” she added.
