Came with a friend for out book club meeting. My friend is a member of the club, it was a nice treat. Food is good, drinks are yum! The view is so nice and a great vibe. Enjoy the sunset and good company.
Really nice Yacht Club in Coconut Grove! I met some friends there last weekend for a boat outing and had a great time.. they do have visitor parking, a great waterfront restaurant with delicious cocktails & bites. Marina access was hassle free!
Ducked in this evening for a Celebration of Life Ceremony for a fine and generous Gentleman of fine repute by the name of Robert "Bob" Detchon. Rest in Peace, Bob. I have visited this well run operation many, many times. I am 53 years old and one of my very longtime friends whom I don't get to see enough kept his sailboat here for many, many moons. Oh the trips we took to Key Biscayne or Sundays on the Bay. Smells like teen spirit. The name of the boat was "Confusion." I won't name him because I don't have permission. I have not been inside the gates since well before the Y2K ruckus and have never seen the big, sturdy, epic, new building that is on the right side, the one with the rooftop lounge where this event was held. Kudos to management / ownership on maintaining the charm and personality of the place and finding the ideal spot to place needed infrastructure expansion. Excellent service. Cabeza OUT!

We were fortunate to be invited to CRYC after helping out with Race Committee for an event in Coconut Grove. We spent some time in the bar and then sat in the Dining Room and were treated wonderfully by the staff. What an exquisite view and exemplary service. We had almost all of your menu between appetizers, main course, and deserts where we all shared as well. The fish and chips were wonderful. Conch fritters incredible. Loved the New York Strip and the rib appetizer. We were treated to house made ice cream with brandy I think and a cookie. WOW! Can't wait to come back!

Joined some friends for another friends bday. Great crowd of really nice people. Very clean and organised. The food was good and the staff was absolutely amazing. CRYC is one of the only places I've seen that's fully staffed post Covid. I'm assuming this is because they treat and pay their staff well. The staff was exceptional. They were extremely polite and attentive to everyone. Very nice and relaxed evening.
I absolutely love Coral Reef Yacht Club. I've been going there since I was a kid and my husband and I incorporated it into our wedding events. The atmosphere is always nice, the view is unbelievable, the food is great - there really is nothing bad I can say about it. I also love the annual Christmas events, where Santa arrives on a boat, takes pictures with the kids, and gives them gifts, and the kids decorate gingerbread houses while they wait to see Santa. Halloween on the docks also is a great event.
Grouper dinner with lobster chunks
Enjoyed sailing here. Great race committee. I liked the bar overlooking the pool and wet slips.

Top of the line. We spent the day at the club as a guest. I was really impressed with the service and facilities. The Fourth of July celebrations at the club were fantastic. The fireworks show was great too. I would recommend checking out the club if you are interested in a family friendly yacht club.
Having the best 4th of July!
Great location. Pretty setting. Lovely pool overlooking marina. Nice restraunts. Showers & lounge area clean & well kept. I would definitely visit again on my travels.
A Miami Classic! While visiting Miami, a friend (member) took us for dinner at the Yardarm Bar. Met several very friendly locals. Some 3rd and 4th generation Miami families. Apparently unusual for Miami. Started the evening with a signature rum punch and conch chowder with a dash of sherry. Both were excellent! Our entree of grouper was fresh and very tasty. Finished of with a unique but simple spiced ice cream dish called "brandy ice". We were content to say the least. Fortunately it was a short walk past the palm tree lined pool, out the dock and onto the boat for moonlight cruise. These people have it made! Thanks again CRYC for the experience!

Star Winter Series
Star winter sailing – done right.
The Stars Come Out In Winter
The history of the International Star Class is perhaps the richest of any racing keelboat in the world, and much of that history has been written in South Florida. It’s now time to update that history with a new classic – the Star Winter Series .
For half a century, the world’s best sailors have brought their “Starboats” (as their crews call them) down to the beautiful waters of Biscayne Bay for the best in competition and ambiance in one of the world’s premiere sailing and vacation destinations.
With the Olympic Era over (for now), used Stars are a great value for sailors looking for a fabulously rewarding boat to sail in a class with legendary competition. A stunning performer in all conditions, the Star is a surprisingly good value for any two-person team, and with one of the sport’s best-organized Classes, boats hold their value exceedingly well. For a wealth of information on the history and design of the Star, check the Star Class website.
Beginning in 2012, Starboat owners and crews will be able to show off their Stars during the inaugural Star Winter Series (SWS). Four weekends plus the 4-day Star Midwinter Championship makes the SWS the most intense winter series anywhere, designed to maximum racing time while minimizing hassle and expense.
Store your boat all winter long just meters from host Coral Reef Yacht Club , and get up to 20 days of sailing between November and March. There’s easy launch, easy haul access and assistance with every step of the process up to a full concierge service – you decide. Stay at a five-star spa or an economy hotel – you have the luxury of both in nearby Coconut Grove.
The Stars come out in winter. You should be here, too.

History of the Coral Reef Yacht Club
Though Coral Reef Yacht Club was officially established in 1955 as Royal Palm Yacht Club, the beginnings took place in countless meetings of fifty stalwart SAILORS who had visions of a ‘better South Florida Yacht Club’ and not much else. They encountered many problems, not the least of which was finding the right property at the right price. But Edward S. Christiansen (pictured to the right), a retired businessman from up north, refused to let the dream die. At a meeting at his house in the early 1950’s, when many were ready to give up, he pronounced, “Gentlemen, we HAVE a yacht club , whether or not we have the property.” AND THE VISION TOOK SHAPE AND BECAME A REALITY.

Here’s how Coral Reef Yacht Club describes Youth Sailing:
The CRYC Youth Sailing Program is one of the most prominent, active, and highest achieving programs of its kind in the United States. We offer young sailors between the ages of 8-18 an opportunity to learn and hone skills that will last them lifetime.
Our Mission
The mission of the Coral Reef Youth Sailing Program is to be the leading club-based youth sailing program in the United States for the Optimist and Club 420 classes. The Club seeks to teach young sailors to have fun, learn lifelong boating skills, develop good personal character, and compete at the highest levels.
About the Program
Our year-round sailing program is based on beautiful Biscayne Bay in Miami, FL and ranges from introductory two-week summer camp sessions for beginners to weekly sessions during the Fall (September to December) and Spring (January to May) for more advanced sailors.
Our advanced programs have an emphasis on racing and, in the last decade, have produced numerous national champions, US National Team Members, and US participants in qualifying regattas around the world. We also offer private lessons and clinics for those sailors in our program interested in more advanced and personalized one-on-one or small group instruction. The program utilizes the single-handed (solo crew) Optimist (“Opti”) dinghy for our younger sailors (ages 8-15) and the double-handed (dual crew) spinnaker-equipped Club 420 for our teen participants. Our talented and experienced coaches and coaching staff – many of whom compete on the national and international stage themselves – represent the best racing coaching talent in the US and beyond. During the Fall and Spring seasons, practice is held on weekends with an optional Wednesday afternoon practice and sailors attend local, regional, and international regattas throughout the year.
Opti Sailing
Our Opti sailing program is organized into two fleets: an introductory Green Fleet and the advanced Red, White, and Blue Fleet .
The CRYC 420 sailing program is organized into an Intermediate Team and Race Team .
Sailing and College Admissions
Like many sports, your participation in sailing can help your chances of gaining admittance into the college of your choice.
Today, colleges are looking for students who are equally academically qualified and who have demonstrated a passion for something and followed through on it over time.
Sailing can be that passion. Being a great sailor is no substitute for academic achievement. However, being an accomplished sailor can help set you apart from the crowd.
Please contact our Waterfront Director, Stuart deLisser, with questions regarding the CRYC Youth Sailing Program. [email protected]

Coral Reef Yacht Club has grown to be known as a premier yachting center. Their Race Committee is second to none. For over fifty years, sailors from all over the world have entered through their stately royal palmed driveway to participate in some of the best competitions in the world of yacht racing.
Over the years, many great regattas have been hosted by their Club, including the 2008 and 2016 Star Worlds, Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta, Bacardi Cup and Bacardi Miami Race Week, Lightning Midwinters, Etchells Coral Reef Cup, and the World Sailing Olympic Classes Regatta.
They are excited to be the host of the Etchells World Championship in 2023. Not only do they host great regattas, CRYC has Members who are great sailors including two Rolex Yachtsmen of the Year, World Champions, US Singlehanded Youth Sailing Championship for Women for the Leiter Cup and the US Rep for Snipes in the Pan Am Games. They also enjoy sharing their cruising experiences. One of its Member is on his sixth circumnavigation of the world. Others have cruised as far south as the Caribbean and as far north as Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Many know the waters of the Bahamas as well as the back of their own hands. Coral Reefers love to cruise.
CRYC has many Members who love to fish. Some do it for relaxation and others are avid competitors. In the spring, the Club hosts a Marlin Tournament with as many as 22 boats participating…good news for the Coral Reefers but bad news for the Marlin!

For the Kids
CRYC is a family Club. The pool is often full of kids swimming and the lawn is a friendly field for play. There are fishing tournaments on the docks for the little ones. The holiday events include egg hunts on Easter, a Halloween costume parade down the docks and a visit with Santa. Movie Night for Kids is very popular too.
Our Youth Sailing Program is among the best in nation. During the summer we are the “hot spot” for summer camps, offering a variety of activities. Directions by Water
Coral Reef Yacht Club is located in the Coconut Grove waterfront section of Miami on the western shore of Biscayne Bay. On your charts, look for Dinner Key Marina in Coconut Grove, south of the Rickenbacker Causeway leading across the Bay to Key Biscayne.
There are two major approaches to the Club: one through Dinner Key Main Channel, which allows for an 8′ depth, and the second, slightly to its north, known as the Seaplane Channel, a privately maintained channel of 5′ depth.
If you are approaching CRYC from the south, head north and aim at downtown Miami until you get to Donovan’s Mark to the entrance of the Main Dinner Key Channel.
The safe entry point for the Dinner Key entrance to Coconut Grove is N25.42.98 W080.12.40. If your boat draws more than 5’, you will want to enter here at a heading of 330°.
Once you are close to the docks, go to the right and stay close to the boats. When you have rounded the docks (Dinner Key), you will then stay on the left side of the basin. You will pass docks with a Shell gas station, the entrance to Shake-A-Leg Miami, the Monty’s docks, Biscayne Bay Yacht Club docks and then you will be approaching the CRYC docks.
If you are boating south from downtown Miami, you will pass under the Rickenbacker Causeway Bridge and head toward the Quick Flash Mark. You are getting close to Coconut Grove. The safe entry point for the Seaplane Channel entrance is N25.42.13 W080.12.57. This Seaplane Channel is the northernmost Coconut Grove entry channel. There is a dolphin (4 piling marker with a light) marking the entrance to this channel. Turn right at a heading of 330° aiming toward the tall SBS building (the tallest on the north side of Coconut Grove) with Monty’s in front of it. Start to turn right when 100 yards from the docks. Do not cut the corner as it is shallow. You will pass by the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club docks and then you will be at CRYC docks.

Coral Reef Yacht Club Reviews
Some reviews for Coral Reef Yacht Club on Google:
We always come here for Orangebowl regatta event for our kids after Christmas. The restaurant is great and we received the best service in Miami. All staff are very attentive and friendly. And, the food was great. They had a pasta night when we were there. As a non member, we had to wait for quite a while to get a table as we cannot make a reservation. We loved the atmosphere as well.
Our dinner companions have been members here forever which helped us nab the best table in the house with a great view. The service was very warm and friendly along with being professional. All the food was super tasty. The wine list Hmmm maybe yacht club people are more into mixed drinks but we did ok. The after dinner stroll on the docks was really nice.
Great bunch of people, great hosts for the Columbus day regatta and for the ensuing awards ceremony.they’re bartenders in the new building could stand a little hospitality training they didn’t know how to handle a non-member requesting a beverage that wasn’t included in the awards menu.
Excellent location, food, atmosphere, people, etc… Sundowners is a private event party for members and their guest only. With one of the greatest buffet spreads ever, fit for a royal dinner!
I visited CRYC for the International Orangebowl regatta. The yacht club has a big waterfront pool, nice restaurants and views of Biscayne Bay. The yacht club has a nice junior club that hosts summer camps for kids and teens.

What Makes a Yacht Club Great?
A yacht club is so much more than just a place to park your boat. It’s where you’ll meet like-minded individuals who share your passion for yachting, boating, or sailing. It’s where you’ll learn new skills, refine your knowledge, and make lifelong friends. A great yacht club provides a welcoming and supportive community, excellent facilities and amenities, expert instruction, and exciting events.
The most important aspect of any yacht club is the community it fosters. When you join a yacht club, you’re becoming part of a family of passionate boaters who are always excited to share their experiences and help you improve your own. A great yacht club provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere where you feel comfortable and included, whether you’re a seasoned sailor or a novice boater.

Of course, facilities and amenities are also essential for a great yacht club. The club should offer top-notch dockage, with plenty of slips and moorings for boats of all sizes. It should also provide well-maintained equipment, such as launch ramps, boat lifts, and storage facilities. On-site services like fueling and pump-out stations, as well as repair and maintenance facilities, are also important perks.
Instruction
Another hallmark of a great yacht club is the quality of instruction it provides. The best clubs offer expert training and education for boaters of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Instruction should cover everything from basic seamanship to advanced navigation, with opportunities for hands-on experience on the water. Whether you’re looking to master a new skill or build on your existing expertise, a great yacht club should provide the resources you need to achieve your goals.
Events and Activities
Finally, a great yacht club should offer an exciting calendar of events and activities. From regattas and races to cruises and parties, the club should provide a range of opportunities for members to socialize and have fun. Regular social events, such as dinners and cocktail parties, help foster a sense of community and camaraderie. Educational events, such as guest speakers and workshops, also provide opportunities for members to learn from experts and expand their knowledge.

Demolition of Cape Coral's Yacht Club slated for April will cost almost $1 million
The city of Cape Coral is preparing for the demolition of the Yacht Club and its facilities in April as it awaits permits.
Cape Coral's Yacht Club Community Park , which includes a yacht basin, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a ballroom, and a beach, has served as a popular attraction and staple for the city since the 1960s but is set to undergo major renovations.
"It should start in April," said David Hyyti, interim director of capital improvements, during a committee of the whole meeting on Wednesday.
Demolition of the Yacht Club was previously set for late December/January. Despite plans for its renovation, Hurricane Ian on September 28, 2022, demolished the buildings and shoreline, requiring a massive change in plans.
Here's what we know:
What are the current plans for the Yacht Club?
The city had planned in early 2022 to close the park for two years for renovations that included replacing the seawalls and marina wet slips, replacing the harbormaster building and boat ramp, and building a three-story parking garage and beach restrooms. The beach would also be expanded, and utilities relocated.
Then Hurricane Ian struck, delaying plans, and shuttering the beach for more than a year.
Since that time, Kimley Horn, a consulting firm focusing on public and private developments, has been working with the city to revamp renovations.
These plans now include a new two-story community center to replace the ballroom, removing the tennis courts, rearranging the area to accommodate a four-story parking garage, a new restaurant, and a new resort-style pool.
Previous discussions said the project could cost up to $100 million.

Who has been contracted?
Johnson-Laux Construction, a full-service construction management firm that operates out of Winter Garden, has been contracted for the demolition and deconstruction of the Yacht Club.
The firm is also tasked with preserving a portion of the old ballroom building, which includes interior ceiling beams, stonework, a fountain, and the front glass doors with the Yacht Club written on them.
What will it cost?
A contract was awarded to the construction firm on Feb 26 after piggybacking off other entities' existing contracts for a fixed price of $987,716.04.
How long will it take?
Once the permits from the Army Corps of Engineers and the Florida Department of Environmental Protections are approved, work will begin within 30 days and take 60 days to complete.
Construction will not affect the now-open beach area.
If the work starts in April, complete demolition could be finished by July or August.

Big blow to Florida reef recovery: First survey after record heat finds coral graveyards
T he first survey of Florida’s reefs after an ‘apocalyptic’ marine heat wave offers a bleak picture of the future of the state’s renowned corals — and the restoration efforts to save them.
Scientists with NOAA’s Mission: Iconic Reefs program visited five reefs throughout the Florida Keys on Thursday to check on the health of the nursery-raised and transplanted corals researchers installed there over the last few years. They found coral graveyards.
It’s a major setback to one of the most promising solutions to Florida’s declining reefs — replanting infant coral fragments — and could represent a generation lost to last summer’s scorching sea.
At one nursery, at the Looe Key Reef in the lower Keys, researchers didn’t see a single live staghorn or elkhorn coral at any of the sites they surveyed. That’s the same spot where researchers with the Coral Restoration Foundation reported “100% mortality” in July.
NOAA only checked on transplanted staghorn and elkhorn coral at the five reefs they surveyed, and the outlook wasn’t good. However, the report did note that “anecdotal evidence” suggests that other types of coral, like massive, brain and boulder, might have fared better, including at places like Looe Key.
Scientists only found living elkhorn coral at three sites: Carysfort Reef, Sombrero Reef in the middle Keys and Eastern Dry Rocks off Key West. The only surviving staghorn samples were at the northernmost reefs, Carysfort and Horseshoe Reef.
“Preliminary data indicate that less than 22% of approximately 1,500 staghorn coral ( Acropora cervicornis ) surveyed remain alive,” the scientists reported.
This snapshot of coral health reveals that some of coral scientists’ worst fears after this summer’s record-breaking heat wave may be true. In 2023, the coastal waters off South Florida heated up earlier than usual, got hotter than they ever have in recorded history, and stayed that way for longer than they have in 30 years.
In those conditions, which topped 90 degrees Fahrenheit at times, the symbiotic algae that live within corals are spit out, leaving the corals bone-white and starving, vulnerable to sunburn and disease.
The threat was so dire, scientists took the unusual step of removing baby corals from their underwater nurseries and storing them on land, or canceling replanting efforts altogether.
Not all corals die after being bleached, but this NOAA report reveals that many did.
This report is just an initial look at how the youngest coral fragments on Florida’s reefs survived. Scientists have yet to complete a comprehensive survey of how the centuries-old reefs that dot Florida’s coast fared.
“The findings from this assessment are critical to understanding the impacts to corals throughout the Florida Keys following the unprecedented marine heatwave,” Sarah Fangman, Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary superintendent, said in a statement released with the NOAA report. “They also offer a glimpse into coral’s future in a warming world.’
