Watching rad tv and talkin' shite, below deck sailing yacht s1:e16 dope recap.

I hear things got messy for our chief steward this week on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, ’bout TIME. But let’s see what actually happened, yes? Rolling hot into my recap of BDSY S1:E16 Dope! after the break!

We open where we left, in Captain Glenn Shephard’s office with chief steward Jenna MacGillivray discussing the recent hiccups in service. By that I mean the fact that she left one person on service and went to cuddle during.charter. I mean, if it was just that one time, you’d probably let it slide, right? But all season Jenna’s been at best an absent manager of her interior crew, preferring to hang out in the galley with chef Adam Glick .

You know, they really are well suited in that way.

Captain Glenn doesn’t waste time getting to the day in question, to be confronted with a wall of “That totally didn’t happen” re: only one person being on service.

Since Captain Glenn was clearing glasses and wiping down counters, he’s fully aware of who was down and who was on service and lying to him is a bad choice.

THEN Jenna says she can’t recall and since it’s literally the day before yesterday: the OllieNorthDefense does not apply.

Captain Glenn perseveres; and about lying down with Adam…maybe pump the brakes, sister. Keep it clean and PROFESSIONAL. Both of yous.

Third steward Georgia Grobler is about coming out of her skin trying to find out what’s going on, second steward Madison Stalker doesn’t know either, okay??

A doctor makes his way on board to see newish deckhand  Chris Miller who lifted a seabob and tweaked his back something awful. He still managed to dig rocks, lift heavy things, go up high on the mast and a sexy hot tub striptease, but painfully. Nobody wants a painful hot tub striptease.

The pain and tingles have gone into his foot, he’s lost feeling in spots and the doctor is very concerned. He may have nerve damage, he’ll have to have an MRI before the doctor will clear him to work.

WHY would this have to happen for the last charter? Wait. It always happens for the last charter! They’re always a man down on the last charter on Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean! Is it a case of Push Through Itis??

Jenna complains to Adam in the kitchen, but you really can’t shittalk on a superyacht. The Parsifal III looks roomy, but crew quarters are so tight that the Captain is always about four steps away and he’s going to hear you whining about being taken to task about service.

Now…who was it…that you said was shite on service…but who insisted she was always working…but you said WASN’T but now Captain Glenn has seen exactly that…who…oh right, it was MADISON.

Captain Glenn gets the bad news about Chris, let’s get this MRI going, the charter starts tomorrow!

They tell first mate Paget Berry, who feels sorry only for himself. Sorry the nerves in your back are potentially seriously injured, Paget. Oh wait.

Jenna confronts Madison while they’re cleaning cabins because she’s a shitty manager. She forces Madison to give an opinion about her and Adam carrying on in the crew mess then yells at her for having an opinion.

Jenna storms out, she’s not telling them to do ANYTHING, SO THERE!!

Madison takes Captain Glenn aside, she didn’t say anything bad about Jenna, right? Captain Glenn has had it. He was very careful to tell Jenna that the complaint came from outside her department but Jenna is a bully of the insecure variety. Of course she is then mean to someone she has control over.

Captain Glenn takes off like a shot with Madison trailing in his wake, she doesn’t like drama!

He finds Jenna in the master, do they need to get Georgia? No, okay, time for another chat. It’s much uglier this time, Captain Glenn takes Jenna to task about her actions: “you’re defending them and they’re indefensible.”

We’re clear that Captain Glenn would fire Jenna if there wasn’t only one charter left.

It’s a somber night on the Parsifal, deckhand Ciara Duggan and boyfriend Paget decide not to leave the ship for dinner. They’ve got a charter the next morning and a person down, better to stay on board and wipe stuff with pizza in hand.

Last pre-charter preference sheet meeting of the season wooooo! Who we got, coach?? Nicole Gary will be our last Primary Charter Guest of the first season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, awww! She’s from Manhattan and likes long walks on the beach. Dislikes: people who frown. I’m joshing, she’s in real estate, she likes EQUITY! Friends Noelle Nikpour, Jeanette Spinelli and Nick Buchanan will be joining Nicole, who wants a Pink Party replete with a seven course pink tasting menu.

Pink….tasting menu?

That sounds like a LOT of beet juice being stuffed where it shouldn’t, which is literally everywhere.

The guests give a note about expecting great service, Jenna cracks a joke that they’re going to be disappointed and Adam cracks up. Captain Glenn does not.

Adam reviews the tasting menu with Jenna, then she calls her team together for another meeting! Yay!

She tells Georgia to HTFU and Madison to focus, whatever, Jenna. Maybe admit you’ve been slightly distracted but you’re back on course and ready to knock out this last charter, that would go a lot further.

Everyone works like crazy except poor Ciara, who is coughing and cranky. Is she sick too? Then I might feel bad for Paget, he’d be carrying everything on deck, literally and figuratively.

Guest arrival time!

I like the looks of Primary Nicole! Lookit Mr. BowTieShorts behind her! Why don’t more people make an effort to wear cool stuff?

Boat Tour! We seem to be zooming through really fast, but it’s the last one of the season, guys! We won’t see the Parsifal again until…okay, next week. But after that!

Adam and the crew bring up snacks for the guests in the salon, why does he sit? He’s not confabbing in a workshop with pals, he’s serving them food in a luxury superyacht, stand up and stop the manspread.

Madison and Georgia unpack guest luggage, I think that’s the part of traveling rich I would find the most awesome and terrible. Get out of my stuff! But also press it and hang it up and put it all away again, thanks. Good thing there is exactly zero chance of my traveling rich. Whew!

Paget hurts his knee to go with his pulled hamstring on the other leg while Chris hovers around hopefully. He’s not even allowed to pick up shoes until the doctor clears him.

Captain Glenn is Canadian, he’s not going to mess around with Health and Safety. Canuck represent!

Chris gets a call from the doctor, it’s not good news. He does have a disc prolapse and he’ll need to see a specialist, no lifting anything until then.

It’s Nicholas Buchanan that is the fancy dresser, woooo! Now he’s in reflective shorts and I think I’ve figured out why I may have had issues dating in the past: I really dig dudes who are sometimes only into dudes, apparently.

Other charter guest Billy LastNameCouldn’tSee, maybe Billy Lolli? heads down to his room to sniff something. He pops up on deck to ask to drive the boat as Paget gathers some more chairs for the guests to sit on. Paget’s eating lunch at the time, I guess it would have been too much for Jenna to ask chief engineer Byron Hissel who was right there or something.

The wind picks up, it’s almost time to go sailing!! Look how gorgeous!

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

And now in motion:

Chris calls Captain Glenn for a chat as Ciara tells Paget she’s sick too. Yep, I finally feel sorry for Paget, his whole department is dropping like flies. He comes into the crew mess, “And then there was one.” LOL

We’re up to 8 degrees heel, charter guest Jeannette is driving with Byron supervising. The wind dies and the sails are stowed. Most of the guests are napping when Captain Glenn drops anchor at Avlaki, Corfu, they’re missing a spectacular sunset.

Paget and Georgia have a nice moment on the bridge, he’s going to miss her! Almost as much as she’ll miss him, that type of crush can be a nice reminder that you’re alive.

The interior team sets the table with a beautiful pink table setting while Adam works on his pink menu, that seemed like not a lot of time to prepare for such specific requests, didn’t it? Billy the Guest just haaaangs around the table.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Primary Nicole fell asleep on deck and doesn’t wake up until 8:30, half an hour after supper is supposed to start.

Why did nobody wake her up??

It’s 10:00 pm and the Primary is just now putting on makeup, her friends are about to faint from starvation and Adam’s losing his mind in the galley.

I’d like to feel bad for everyone but:

  • Nicole Gary is the Primary Charter Guest
  • That means she’s paying
  • If they cared so much about supper, they should have woken her up
  • She’s paying. Shhhh

It’s just that it’s past 10 pm and they’ve requested a seven course tasting menu. 7. That’s going to be a very late night for everyone. Next time someone shake a shoulder!

I’m kind of obsessed with this table!

Primary Nicole looks beautiful but Noelle Nikpour is ready to cut a betch.

First course! Prosciutto and Parmesan with truffle.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

There are only five guests, that seems like a tiny group for a yacht this size. Billy can barely keep his eyes open, Jenna wonders aloud if everyone is on drugs.

Second course! Grapefruit salad with grapefruit vinaigrette.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Billy leaves before eating to go to the bathroom. I’m confused because his peeing sounds like sniffing.

Third course is smoked trout with caviar and crostini.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Sorry, I’ve been recapping GBBO a lot lately and it involves a lot of food pictures.

Fourth course! Beet salad with goat’s cheese.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Fifth course: lobster with pink potatoes and Bearnaise. Primary Nicole is very excited about the lobster.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Jenna uses the time in between courses to yell at Madison for not getting the cabins done sooner, Madison is also leaving the cabins to come help serve so we don’t know what the hell Jenna is talking about.

Chris takes Jenna aside, he saw something under Billy’s nose earlier, now she has to say something.

It’s 12:15 am and we’re finally getting our sixth course, watermelon granita.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Last and seventh course is dessert!

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Yay! Adam comes out for that one, he did a great job with a weird request. The guests head to bed save Billy and Nicholas, who stay up chitchatting in their room until 3:45 am while Madison and Chris clean the boat.

Oh wow, this is the last day on charter? Already? Huh. I thought for sure they’d be on charter a couple of days, but Byron says this is the last day of the season so it must be.

Jenna tells Captain Glenn about the mysterious powder under Billy’s nose as Adam serves breakfast at 9:45 am. Nick says he and Billy didn’t sleep at all, I wonder if it was just that the Bravo crew fell asleep at 3:45 am.

Captain Glenn is very concerned to hear about this suspicious white powder under Billy’s nose, he would have liked to have been notified in the moment so he could have viewed it himself. He wakes up Chris to confirm and then views the guest himself. Billy is obnoxious, but Captain Glenn brings up a valid point: what if it’s not cocaine but prescribed Adderall? I understand that can be snorted, right?

All I know of Adderall I learned from gossip websites.

Captain Glenn asks to speak to Primary Nicole and we’re out for today! Next week is the season finale, it looks like we get a peek inside Billy’s bag, wooo.

Until then, cheers.

Below Deck Season 11, Episode 7 Recap: Crew Minus Two

Welcome back to  Below Deck  Season 11, Episode 7. In this week’s episode, titled “Cat’s Out of the Bag,” Jared pays the price for being drunkenly obnoxious and waking the captain twice in one night. Ben gets a big promotion, and Cat hits such a low point that both Captain Kerry and Fraser are afraid for her mental health. Here are some highlights from Below Deck Season 11, Episode 7.

Cap’s got no tolerance for bad behavior

Last week, Jared made so much noise after his drunken night out that he woke the captain. Uh oh, you know you’re in trouble when you wake up Dad.

“What’s going in here?” Kerry asks. “I can hear you two decks up. I’m up there trying to sleep.”

“Really?” Jared asks blankly. Um, the fact that he’s standing in front of you right now means it’s true, Jared.

“Pack this up,” the Captain says. “Hit the sack, please.” It’s the second time tonight he’s been woken up, and he’s not happy. The yelling and screaming are “unacceptable on my boat.”

The next morning, Jared is remorseful. “Thinking about last night,” he confesses, “I’m not feeling like I handled it all too well. Lot of things on my mind, lot of things stressing me out … but it doesn’t excuse how messy things were. I could have handled it better, for sure.”

In the kitchen, Kyle and Ben are chatting about last night. “I heard you come down,” Ben says, “and Jared was yelling at you.”

“I wasn’t unaware of the fact that I had made a mess,” Kyle explains about spilling pipe tobacco on the deck. “Before I even had the opportunity to try and tidy it up, he was on my ass.”

“F*cking weirdo,” Ben sighs.

A minute later, Captain Kerry radios for Kyle to come to the bridge. Uh oh. Here we go. Jared knows he’s next.

“There was a lot going on last night that I didn’t see,” Kerry interviews. “What I did see was two guys talking loudly in the crew mess. To me, it seemed like Kyle was trying to de-escalate the situation. Jared has a history of getting drunk. I understand he’s going through sh*t, but I don’t have time for it.”

Captain’s inquisition

When Kyle arrives on the bridge, Kerry tells him, “I need you to be honest with me and not hold anything back. I want to know the facts of the evening. What happened?”

“So Jared … I’d left a mess upstairs, right,” Kyle explains. “But we were all drinking. Give me a chance to get up in the morning and correct my wrong.”

Next up is Barbie, who says, “My roomie … whatever … left my room, so Kyle was just, ‘F*ck it, I’ll just bunk with you.’ Me and Kyle are super good friends, so I had no problem at all with it.”

Back to Kyle, who says, “Jared then … stormed into Barbie’s room.”

“He didn’t knock,” Barbie says.

“At any point, did you feel threatened?” Cap asks Barbie.

“It wasn’t directed towards me, so I didn’t feel threatened,” she says.

“Was there threatening behavior directed toward you?” the captain asks Kyle.

“Slightly,” Kyle responds. “More of an angry, demeaning manner. He was angrier than what he needed to be.”

“Was he pounding drinks last night?” Kerry asks.

“Alcohol was involved,” Barbie says.

“We all had a fair bit to drink,” Kyle admits. “I’m not throwing anybody under the bus.”

“I think it was more like a personal thing, you know what I mean?” Barbie observes. “He was mad that Kyle was in my room.” Hmm, I hadn’t thought of that angle. Could be true.

Jared’s not in the right head space

“I’m quickly running out of options with Jared,” Kerry says in a confessional. “He’s made quite a few f*ck-ups … He’s made several mistakes in docking. And the alcohol doesn’t help at all … My primary responsibility is the safety of the vessel and the crew, and this guy is really creating a problem for me.”

Finally, it’s Jared’s turn. “[Last night] I had a discussion with you and the rest of the crew about having a great night but not getting absolutely f*cking hammered,” Cap says. “This is the second time you’ve gone on the piss [and] you’ve had bad behavior. You’re in a leadership role. You can’t be acting like that … it’s not acceptable.”

“I’ve tried to guide you,” Kerry continues. “I’ve shown compassion. But you’ve got sh*t going on, mate. You’re your own worst enemy right now. You need to depart the vessel.”

“I’m gettin’ the boot?” Jared asks, shocked.

“Yes,” the captain says. “You’ve got a lot going for you. You work hard, but your head’s not there, mate.”

“This ain’t the right place for me [right now],” Jared admits.

“Exactly,” agrees the captain. “And I don’t blame you for that. Take this time and work on yourself. Me keeping you here is a disservice to you.”

“Okay, I respect that,” Jared concedes.

“Pack up your cabin and say goodbye to your crewmates,” Kerry tells him. And they part with a handshake.

“I know sending him home is not gonna be easy for the rest of the crew in the short term,” Kerry confesses. “But long term, this is the right decision. When someone’s distressed, or they’re acting out in a way that’s not fair to their crewmates … or not safe, they’ve gotta go.”

Ben gets a promotion

Captain Kerry calls Ben to the bridge. “What’s going on?” he asks, sitting down.

“A couple of things,” Kerry says. “Jared’s leaving, and we’re gonna be down a crew member … If I leave this dock with a person down, can you handle … being the bosun on the boat?”

“Hundred percent,” Ben says. “I can do it, Cap.”

“Ben’s a natural choice,” Cap interviews. “Ben knows the boat, he knows what needs to happen … but now he’s gotta lead. He’s gotta make decisions that he may not agree with ‘cause I’ve said so.”

“Damn right, I’ll accept the position of bosun,” Ben says in a confessional. “Finally, I’m able to show Kerry what I can do. I know I can do this job. Let’s go.”

The captain reminds him that he’s in management now, and his interactions with his crew need to change. “The division of friends and leader … needs to be a clear line,” he says.

But this means you’ll have to stop fooling around with Sunny, Ben. She works for you, and it’s not appropriate.

As he’s packing, Jared confesses, “I thought I was in a good head space coming into this. I’m really not. As much as I would like to be, I’m just lying to myself. Although the situation sucks, I actually do feel a little bit lighter.”

Once Jared is gone, Captain Kerry gathers the crew in the Sky Lounge for a meeting. Since the deck team’s down a person, Cap says he’ll be helping out even more than he does now. While I appreciate the closed captioning this show usually provides for Kyle, I actually have more difficulty with Kerry’s accent. He kind of mumbles and runs his words together. I love Kerry, but damn, he’s hard to understand sometimes.

Cat melts down

Cat gets a hysterical phone call from her friend Megan. Cat removes her mic pack and takes the phone into the bathroom for privacy.

“So I got a call from my friend Megan,” Cat interviews. “My friends are my family. So, it feels really sh*tty not being able to be there for her.” Cat is so upset that she goes to bed crying and is still wiping away tears the next morning.

Barbie’s in the crew mess when Cat walks in and says, “I’m f*cking done, dude. I’m over this sh*t.”

“Do you want to talk?” Barbie asks.

“No,” Cat runs sobbing back to her cabin.

Barbie asks Fraser, “Is Cat okay? She’s crying again.”

“Again?” Fraser says. “Something’s really wrong with her. I’m worried.” He goes to check on her. When she doesn’t respond to his knock, he opens the door gently. “Are you okay, my love?”

“No, this is not good,” she sobs. “I really wanna push through for you guys, [but] I’m just losing my mind right now.”

“I’d rather you put your … mental health [first], and we get you the help you need,” Fraser says. “Is that something you’d like me to arrange for you?”

“I feel like I might need to do that,” she admits. “I’m really sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry, you’re fine,” he says, hugging her.

“I don’t know what’s going on,” Fraser says in a confessional. “But you can look into someone’s eyes sometimes and see that there is no more that they can give … I need to do what’s right for her.”

To Cat, he says, “You’ve been amazing. Listen, if you just get all your stuff together, we’re gonna make this happen, all right?”

Captain Kerry makes the right call

Fraser’s next stop is Captain Kerry. “I don’t think Cat can make it to the end of this trip,” he says. “She’s in tears. She doesn’t want to disclose any information, [but] I asked her, was it something you need to deal with immediately, and the answer was yes.”

“All right,” Kerry responds. “Thanks for bringing that to my attention. That worries me.”

“Same,” Fraser agrees.

“I’m really worried about Cat’s mental state right now,” Kerry interviews. “For him to come to me and say, ‘She’s ready to go,’ she’s gotta go.”

“It could be something horrific, or it could just be something not,” Fraser continues. “We need to give her the benefit of the doubt.”

“Well, to her, it’s horrific,” Kerry says. “My focus is what it’s doing to her.”

When Fraser leaves, Kerry calls a water taxi, saying he has a crew member who “needs to get off the vessel.” Then he tells Ben to drop anchor so they can get someone off the boat.

Captain knocks on Cat’s door and asks if she needs a hand. “Maybe with the suitcase,” she says, apologizing again. So he carries her suitcase, something I’ve never seen any other captain do. Sweet.

“My number one job is to take care of my crew and their health,” Kerry interviews. “She’s gotta go.”

Full circus mode

Captain radios the crew to the aft deck to say goodbye while the guests are confused about what’s going on.

“I wish I could have stayed,” Cat interviews, with a smile on her face, obviously already happier. “But the thing is, like, there’s no way that I could have … I need to be with the people that need me … I need to protect my own mental health. My support system’s at home, not here.”

Back on the boat, Kerry is stressing. “Being one person down was going to be hard for us,” he says in a confessional. “Two people down? [deep, heavy sigh] I’ve been in tough situations before, but this is one of the toughest. Regardless of her personal issues, the guests deserve seven-star service. So, am I concerned? Yes, I am. We could all be in trouble.”

“We’re a stew down and a deck crew down,” Ben observes. “[We’re in] full circus mode.”

Below Dec k continues Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.

Below Deck Season 11 Episode 6 Recap: Love Me Tender

W elcome back to Below Deck, Episode 6 of Season 11. In the episode “Love Me Tender” this week, Captain Kerry teaches Cat an eFoil lesson to cheer her up while the annoying charter guests try to finish the entire amount of wine on the boat.

Jared receives criticism for his poor calling distance-calling during docking and is still upset over not being able to reach his daughter. Eventually, late at night, drunk Jared screams at Kyle so loudly that the captain is awakened, and he’s not happy about it. The best parts of Below Deck Season 11, Episode 6 are listed below.

About Eileen, Jared reports to Captain Kerry. She “fell off the jacuzzi last night,” according to him. She remained upright in the jacuzzi. Her head collided with the jacuzzi’s side as she slipped. very likely caused a concussion to herself. It was startling.

She’s a liability, according to Jared. “We must monitor her closely,” the captain remarks. “It’s okay if they want to drink, but they won’t be using the skis. When something goes wrong, we’re the ones that get blamed. Cap later approaches Barbie for further information regarding Eileen’s accident.

“I wasn’t there when it really happened.” Although she didn’t appear hurt, she was really shaky. When they have time, Captain Kerry offers to teach Cat and Barbie how to operate the eFoil. “Cat doesn’t belong,” he says in the interview. She is very perceptive, and there seems to be something wrong with her.

When I’m having a difficult day… Using the eFoil, I leap. I meditate like that. “I wish to provide her with a chance to genuinely leave the boat and replenish her energy,” he continues. “Are you comfortable with that?” While the visitors are away, Cap asks Barbie if she can manage without Cat.

“Definitely,” responds Barbie. “That salt water is really needed by her.” He says, “We’ll get you in next.” “I am unable to.” It will sabotage my makeup and hair. “That will be so refreshing for you,” Barbie says to Cat. I hope it improves her energy and attitude.

Barbie says, “Salt water is a cat’s therapy.” It’s just one of those times when I have to step up and take charge. Cap is prepared to take Cat out once he drops the visitors off at the beach. She smiles the widest. It’s the medication she has been in need of.

Cat is naturally gifted. At home, she has a longboard. In fact, she succeeds in getting the board up on the foil, but she tripped and fell facefirst into the ocean. Indeed! Cap screams. “Well done!” Barbie is unhappy because she is doing “all the work” on the boat.

Below Deck Lost Two Crew Members In One Episode, And As A Fan I’m Honestly Shocked This Isn’t The First Time That Happened

This week saw a few castaways from the St. David crew.

Pictured in this screengrab: Jared Woodin

Well, it looks like there's a little more wiggle room down in the crew quarters of the St. David. That's because this week's episode of Below Deck (which you can catch up on with a Peacock subscription ) saw the shocking early departure of not one but two onboard staffers. However, what's even more surprising is that this isn't the first time that's happened in Bravo's yacht-focused reality franchise.

After that widely despised eighth season of Below Deck Mediterranean , it looks like the O.G. Below Deck decided to fire up the engines where the drama's concerned for Season 11, with both bosun Jared Woodin and stew Cat Baugh ending their charter seasons earlier. However, only one of those early exits was voluntary.

Joining a long line of fired Below Deck crew—including Captain Sandy's number one hater Hannah Ferrier , accidental mustard-gas concocter Elizabeth Frankini and the exhaustingly argumentative Lexi Wilson , among many others—Jared Woodin was fired by Captain Kerry Titheradge due to bad behavior in the March 18th episode on the 2024 TV schedule , titled "Cat's Out of the Bag." Jared's dismissal came after he drunkenly barged into a crew cabin and berated deckhand Kyle Stillie for spilling loose tobacco near the boat's hot tub.

During the episode, Captain Kerry said this about Jared's inappropriate, over-the-top reaction and poor treatment of his crewmate:

This is the second time you've gone on the piss and you've had bad behavior. You're in a leadership role. You can't be acting like that. You gotta be above the fray. The way that you're treating these guys is not acceptable, and we've had discussions, and I've tried to guide you, I've shown you compassion. But, you've got shit going on, mate. You're your own worst enemy right now. You need to depart the vessel.

The Aussie captain was sympathetic, however, to the mental struggles Jared was clearly going through, and he told him that remaining on the boat would be "a disservice" to his mental health.

The topic of having a "good headspace" while working onboard also came up for Cat Baugh, whose own unexpected departure came after the stewardess received a distressing call from a friend back home in America. Deciding to put her own mental health first and go be there for her friend, Baugh put in her resignation with chief stew Fraser Olender and Captain Kerry, both of whom were supportive of her decision. Baugh said of her exit:

I wish I could have stayed. But, the thing is, there's no way I could have. This is too much. I need to be with the people [who] need me, and also, on this boat, I'm at a breaking point. I need to protect my mental health. It's like my support system is at home, not here.

Losing two crew members in one episode is surprising, sure, but not unprecedented. On Below Deck Down Under , the Aussie spin-off of the reality series, bosun Luke Jones was fired by Captain Jason Chambers for drunken misconduct after trying to get in a stew's bed naked while she was inebriated and unconscious. Shortly after, stew Laura Bileskalne's contract was also terminated for making repeating unwanted advances on a male deckhand. Below Deck veteran Lee Rosbach praised Chambers's "superb" handling of the crew misconduct.

So, as you can see, while this situation was shocking to many, it's by no means the first time it's happened.

Despite the two exits, there's still plenty more Below Deck to go, so tune in to Season 11 on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo to see if there will be any more crew shake-ups aboard the St. David .

Here’s everything that happened in Boat Story Season 1

Boat Story Season 1 Recap (Episodes 1-6)

Coming courtesy of Jack and Harry Williams, Boat Story – streaming on the BBC in the U.K. and Freevee everywhere else – is a twisty-turny crime thriller with a healthy dose of eccentricity, which can make it hard to keep track of at times. Luckily, we’ve knocked the events of Episodes 1-6 together into this handy Season 1 recap. You’re welcome.

Boat Story Season 1 Recap

The premiere of Boat Story introduces a few formal gimmicks – self-referential narration, chapter cards like a silent movie – and the plot basics. After a cold open in which a cop and a drug smuggler kill each other on a boat, the shipwreck is discovered on a beach in Yorkshire by Janet Campbell and Samuel Wells.

Janet has been laid off after losing her hand in an industrial accident and being stiffed out of compensation. Samuel has had to uproot his life and family and take them from London to Applebury because of his gambling addiction – which his wife doesn’t know about. Thus, both of them have a justification to take the ten million quid’s worth of cocaine they find in the boat’s wreckage.

Of course, Janet and Samuel don’t stop to consider who’s looking for the coke, which turns out to be a fearsome crime boss named The Tailor and his semi-psychotic triggerman, Guy.

Boat Story continues to be very meta in its second episode, but also pretty interesting. It hasn’t managed to shake off the Fargo shackles, but it nevertheless has enough of its own identity to be enjoyable.

Weirdness-wise, the main thing is a ridiculous theatrical play-within-a-play that retells Sam and Janet’s story. I’m not especially keen on this kind of thing and it isn’t especially well implemented here either, but whatever. There’s also some funny off-kilter dialogue, like The Tailor discovering what a pasty is.

Speaking of the Tailor and pasties, he meets and immediately falls for a local bakery owner named Pat and begins a sexual relationship with her. Samuel and Janet make efforts to sell the drugs to turn a quick – and major – profit, and Pat’s dorky, seemingly idiotic son Ben takes an interest in the case.

Boat Story Season 1 Recap

Boat Story | Image via Prime Video

In Episode 3, Janet manages to move the cocaine to Vinnie for a cool few million, but this is also where the Tailor catches up to Sam and Janet. So, before they have a chance to enjoy the spoils, they’re reminded how imperative it is that they give them back.

Meanwhile, the Tailor’s backstory continues to unfurl in the margins of his burgeoning relationship with Pat. He’s factoring her into a complicated and traumatic family backstory, which is never a good basis for a relationship, but it remains funny.

Pat’s son Ben continues to investigate the case despite the higher-ups not paying any attention to him whatsoever, and he has a close moment with Guy without even realizing it. At the end of the episode, the Tailor seems to be on the cusp of killing Janet and Samuel, but they’re saved by Pat accepting his offer of a date.

Janet and Samuel spend almost the entirety of this episode with Guy, while they try and retrieve the Tailor’s money during the 24-hour stay of execution he has given them thanks to being in a good mood about Pat accepting his date. Guy softens a little in these sequences and we learn a bit more about him.

Likewise, we spend more time with the Tailor and Pat, who go on a little excursion to a country pub where the Tailor charms everyone – nobody would ever suspect that the odd little piano-playing Frenchman is a ruthless killer. Well, nobody except Janet and Samuel, anyway.

At the end of the episode, Janet and Samuel try to pull a fast one, and it’s Vinnie who ends up dead in the crossfire. The body count continues to mount, and Janet and Samuel are no closer to being safe.

Boat Story Season 1 Recap

In the action-packed opening of the penultimate episode, Vinnie and his gang are wiped out following the end of Episode 4, and Janet and Samuel almost meet the same fate. In the scramble, Janet shoots the Tailor, and Guy lets her and Samuel go, seemingly heading off to pursue his pottery dream.

Despite some meandering in the middle of the episode, it builds to a highly significant ending in which poor Ben is killed by Guy, and Pat is kidnapped by Janet and Samuel to use as leverage against the Tailor. This comes after Pat begins to have her doubts about the Tailor’s backstory, which will come up again shortly in the finale.

RIP Ben – he deserved better.

Things get very out there in the Boat Story finale, in a way that’ll probably prove divisive for most viewers. I enjoyed it, all told, but I can see why someone else wouldn’t.

Most of the weirdness isn’t anything to do with Samuel and Janet, who mostly get away with everything – Samuel’s marriage breaks down, to be fair, but he’d been keeping it afloat on a lie since before he found all that cocaine anyway. But the Tailor does seem to have turned over a new leaf because of his relationship with Pat, so he’s willing to swap her for Alan and let bygones be bygones.

However, it turned out that the Tailor was so enamored by Pat because he was trying to reenact the French movie Les Enfants , which he had used to escape into a fantasy world when he was a kid. He would watch the film when his nutcase father would kill people, including his mother. In that film, a young boy becomes infatuated with Madame Bethune and decides to poison, slice up, and eat her, to make her part of him forever. The Tailor has a similar fate in mind for Pat.

Janet stows away aboard the Tailor’s boat and spares Pat this fate. A swift epilogue wraps up some final details, and in a post-credits scene, we meet the narrator in person, who it turns out has been telling the story to a hostage. The connection between the two tales is left deliberately unclear.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16 featured the franchise's most chaotic wedding yet

It wasn't exactly a picture-perfect beach wedding during Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16

Gary King and charter guest on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16

This week's Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16 featured a tall order for our crew of the Parsifal III : their first guest wedding. Not only a guest wedding but a guest wedding on a beach . And if you're even a casual viewer of Below Deck , you know that beach set-ups rarely go smoothly, and this one was no exception.

In the penultimate episode of season 3, the crew welcomes engaged couple Allegra Gray and Gabe Szczepanek and their friends as the season's final charter guests. From the get-go, the guests were a bit more high-maintenance than usual, as their gluten-free dietary restrictions proved to be chef Marcos Spaziani 's toughest preference sheet yet. And that was before he even got to the hardest bit: a three-tiered gluten-free wedding cake.

The crew — most of whom were severely hungover from the night before, with several sleeping well past their start time (hi, Marcos and Colin) — rallied to make sure they ended the charter season on a high note and gave Allegra and Gabe the beachside nuptials of their dreams. But the wedding gods had other plans.

When first mate Gary King, chief engineer Colin MacRae  and junior stew Ashley Marti boat over to the Menorca beach that Captain Glenn Shepard chose as the perfect spot for the intimate wedding, the busy marina is filled with sunbathers and swimmers. "What the f*ck?" Colin exclaims upon arrival. "They should just get married on the boat."

"There's a f*ckload of people on this beach and I don't want to f*ck up these people's wedding," Ashley says in a confessional.

"F*cking hell, this is the worst day," Gary concurs.

But Captain Glenn told the deckhands before they left, "Set up as wide an area as possible to discourage people from coming too close," so that's what they do, even as bikini-clad vacationers frolic around both sand and surf. They pop a white tent to cover the drink station and plunk some artificial floral arrangements into the sand. The whole rushed set-up "looks like a Halloween prank," Colin says, and frankly, he's not wrong.

At least the bride-to-be looks like a wedding magazine cover girl, in an elaborate gown from New York's famous Kleinfeld Bridal. "I went with a very subtle look," Allegra jokes. The formal frock does make deboarding the tender quite difficult, with Colin having to carry the bride onto the beach.

The ceremony itself is a sweet affair, with Captain Glenn officiating and Colin providing some procession music on his guitar, though people creeping on the event from nearby kayaks probably wasn't what the bride and groom had in mind for their intimate exchanging of vows.

At the end of it all, the bride throws the bouquet—which chief stew Daisy Kelliher catches, causing her on-again, off-again smooch partner Gary to throw himself into the ocean and yell, "I'm not marrying you, Daisy!"

Episode 2 - My Big Fat Bleak Wedding

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - Jenna MacGillivray

Chief Stew Jenna is under pressure as she is expected to organize an impromptu wedding for two inebriated guests during the season’s first charter. With his new deck team, which includes Ciara, his longtime fiancée of four years, First Mate Paget is trying to maintain his composure and patience.

Parker, a rookie deckhand, finds it difficult to fit in with the upscale yachting community. While climbing to fix a broken sail, Captain Glenn makes a dangerous maneuver. Two yachties have a heated interaction on their first night out that swiftly turns their business relationship into a personal one.

Episode 3 - Ros?-Fueled Regrets

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - Chef Adam Glick

Jenna wades through a sea of regrets following a wild, wine-fueled night out. She prepares herself for the awkward exchanges that will inevitably occur. When a party of fussy vegan visitors board Parsifal, Adam finds it difficult to meet their meat- and dairy-free diet demands.

Chef Adam gives Georgia a bad attitude, so she turns to her developing friendship with Madison and her developing flirting with Paget for comfort. As tensions between them increase, Paget is concerned about how to be both Ciara’s supervisor and her boyfriend. This makes them wonder if the charter season would finally get the best of them.

Episode 4 - Baby On Board

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - Parker McCown

The final breakfast of the charter is served at full speed, causing stews to brace and dishes to crack. The situation worsens when the deck crew attempts to dock in rough water. Parker’s immaturity starts to emerge due to the stress of being on charter.

Georgia adds more laundry to make Madison’s life difficult.  Paget tries to mediate while the guests watch Ciara and Parker argue about the chores of the deck. But when Ciara notices that the boat collides with the dock, everything comes to a head.

Episode 6 - Oof! I Did It Again

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - Paget Berry

His patience wanes when Paget is left to take up the slack after Parsifal crashes into the dock. The crew fumbles to accommodate a new charter of males from Long Island as they set off in full champagne-sabering, chest-bumping splendor. Cooking for the brothers causes Adam to go into beast mode, but Jenna, who wants more from their relationship, makes him feel at ease.

The guests wander through beach bars looking for girls but dive into the booze. Madison must decide how to manage a problematic charter guest. Additionally, Parker and Madison organize an unruly yacht party.

Episode 7 - Oooof There It Is!

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - Madison and Georgia

Captain Glenn takes his own and imposes restrictions on this testosterone-fueled charter after observing the guests throw an out-of-control party. While attempting to handle Jenna’s expectations, Madison and Georgia are on different pages.

When Adam criticizes Parker’s cabin behavior, Parker loses it. When Paget and Georgia swim together, Ciara observes them in an inappropriate setting. Adam and Jenna get into a heated argument on the dock because they can’t agree on the pace of their relationship.

Episode 8 - No Bra, No Shoes, Bad Service

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - Adam and Jenna

The rest of the crew is put off by Adam and Jenna’s dramatic battle on the flybridges since they can’t agree on where their relationship stands. Parker resents Ciara’s bossiness despite her attempts to manage him. When the two start fighting, Captain Glenn notices and calls a meeting of the deck crew.

Despite feeling overworked, Madison finds time to grow more in love with Parker. After their first altercation, Adam and Jenna are in a precarious position. Madison and Ciara make a mess of setting up the picnic and earn Jenna’s fury.

Episode 9 - Parker's Big Adventure

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Georgia steps up to surprise the visitors while Jenna and Adam pick up the pieces of Madison and Ciara’s disastrous beach picnic. Jenna learns the cause of Madison’s constant exhaustion. Jenna consults Glenn on the best course of action after reaching her breaking point with Madison.

Episode 10 - Big Deck Energy

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - Chief Stew Jenna and Capt Glen

Jenna and Captain Glenn have a challenging conversation with Madison. On their day off, the team gets along, and Georgia, Ciara, and Paget become a little too close after a proposal. Kaiti and Parker get back in touch, and Kaiti is invited to travel to Corfu.

Adam and Jenna’s “shmexual shmension” finally materializes after a lovely day spent together. The high doesn’t last long, though, as Adam’s resentment flares up when Jenna and Georgia find out they have something in common.

Episode 11 - May the Breast Man Win

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - Jenna and Georgia

Jenna urges Georgia to act as a stop-gap after Adam exhibits jealous rage. Madison works assiduously to regain Jenna’s trust while keeping her head down. Guests at the Playboy have some fun with seashells while posing for pictures on the sand.

Between Paget and Ciara, tensions are still very high. And Parker runs into trouble with a setup for a beach picnic, which puts him into a terrible downhill spiral. Although Captain Glenn steps in, it might be too late.

Episode 12 - New Chris On the Block

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Glenn makes adjustments on board the Parsifal that drive the deck team crazy. Georgia and Madison become closer, and Madison lashes out at Adam for having Jenna over in the master guest cabin.

Jenna alerts Madison to who is in charge when she gets wind of it.  Jenna’s confidence is challenged by a group of social media influencer guests. A disagreement also arises at dinner, putting a relationship in jeopardy.

Episode 13 - #Awkward

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Jenna’s resentment grows as the charter guests continue to flirt with Adam brazenly. Paget and Ciara can’t seem to agree on anything, yet Paget and Georgia get along like old friends. Adam surprises Jenna with a grand romantic gesture that backfires.

An unexpected marriage proposal puts a relationship to the test. Everyone is leaving for a meal on the pier. Jenna, Adam, Ciara, and Paget are served dinner at one table. And the others go across the street to the same restaurant for their dinner.

Episode 14 - The Birds

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - the boat tips over because of dead crows in the mast

The crew becomes tense, and the boat tips over because crows are killed in the mast. The bond between Madison and Georgia is on the verge of breaking. Adam maintains his distance from Jenna while Paget and Christopher Miller start a British bromance.

Georgia makes an effort to forget about Paget, but it is ineffective. When a group of delightfully uplifting charter guests board to honor the life of a close friend, everyone’s problems are put into perspective.

Episode 15 - You Snooze, You Lose

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

Adam and Jenna make an effort to repair their tense relationship. Madison and Ciara pick up the slack in work when Jenna joins Adam for a nap during her break, and Glenn notices. Paget hurts himself after Chris is harmed lifting a large water toy.

Ciara is left to bear more weight as the deck team hobbles toward the finish line. Captain Glenn summons Jenna for a meeting that could have long-term repercussions after observing the delay in service on this charter.

Episode 16 - Dope!

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - Capt Glenn interrogates Jenna about her relationship with Adam

Captain Glenn questions Jenna about her friendship with Adam. One of the crew members receives terrible news from a doctor who visits them. Captain Glenn is astonished that someone might have taken illegal substances onboard the boat as drama is roiling throughout all departments.

The charter season is in danger of ending early due to a difficult choice and an upcoming drug search.

Episode 17 - Regatta Go!

Below Deck Sailing Yacht S1 - Finale

In the season finale, a tense drug search on Parsifal III casts a shadow on the crew’s last charter and causes them to become anxious. The team works frantically to organize a sailing competition, but they are still unsure of receiving a tip. A heated argument breaks out as the interior department’s simmering tensions reach a breaking point.

Georgia needs to express some emotions, even if doing so could permanently change some relationships. Captain Glenn sends the crew on one last mission. Time to celebrate Ciara’s birthday and reminisce about the season. The crew says some final and emotional goodbyes.

‘Below Deck’ Bosun Ben Willoughby Teases Trouble Waters Ahead: “I Had Hard Conversations That Didn’t Go In My Favor”

Where to stream:, ‘below deck’ star barbie pascual knows her attitude this season was “unnecessary”: “i see what everybody else sees when i watch myself”, ‘below deck’ exclusive clip: fraser olender shocked by primary guest’s meltdown over ice cream, andy cohen shocked after ‘below deck’ star barbie pascual shades his casting choices on ‘wwhl’: “read for filth on my own show”.

After one season and some change, Below Deck ‘s Ben Willoughby has finally received his long-awaited and well-deserved promotion to bosun! Former bosun, Jared Woodin, had been causing issues between departments through his erratic behavior and sloppy leadership , while Willoughby had been quietly biding his time and establishing himself as a mentor to deckhands Kyle Stillie and Sunny Marquis. When Captain Kerry Titheradge was forced to fire Woodin when he berated Stillie after a night out, Titherage knew Willoughby was the right person to replace him.

Though, Willoughby was the first to acknowledge that Woodin was going through a tough time. “He had a lot on his plate. You got to give him that,” Willoughby said generously. A skilled and steady yachtie, Willoughby was eager to step up and take charge as Bosun. The promotion felt natural to Willoughby because Chief Stew Fraser Olender would “often come to me as opposed to Jared for a lot of things.” “Fraser definitely saw me in that bosun role,” said Willoughby. However, Willoughby did tease “friction this season” between him and his frequent co-worker Olender. “I had to have hard conversations that very much didn’t go in my favor a lot of the time,” admitted Willoughly simply.

In addition to navigating the responsibilities of his new role, Willoughby also had to figure out how to traverse his flirtation with Marquis, which started when they were both deckhands. “It’s the first time I’ve dated someone in the same department,” said Willoughy, whose Season 10 romance with Stew Camille Lamb ended badly. “It was very difficult having to step up in a role and be someone’s boss rather than an equal.” Viewers can trust that complications arise between Willoughby and Marquis.”The relationship side of things [is] very much on the back burner for me,” confirmed Willoughby.

Willoughby stopped by the Page Six studio to speak to DECIDER about his new role, what’s to come this season, and the exits of Woodin and stew Cat Baugh in the same episode.

DECIDER: Ben, you’re in an elite group of yachties who have done multiple seasons on Below Deck . How does it feel to be back for round 2?

BEN WILLOUGHBY: It’s really cool to see the guys doing their first season, which I can relate to. I was like: “Oh yeah, I did that in my first time. That kind of sucks. I know where you’re coming from.” Especially with Sunny, to be honest. She was coming in gun hot, trying to show what she could do and was really excited. I did that last season with Ross McHarg. Captain Kerry was my third captain on the same boat, so I feel like I had got that advantage up my sleeve.

We love Captain Kerry! What was your reaction when you heard he was taking over the St. David?

It was comforting to hear a familiar voice in the Aussie accent. That was fantastic. He’s a bit shorter than I thought he was [laughs]. For my first season, Captain Lee and Captain Sandy split the time unexpectedly, so it was nice knowing that there was going to be one captain on for the whole season. However, I still had to prove myself to a new captain. It was like starting from square one again.

You seemed wary of Jared from the very beginning. Do you remember the first red flag you saw from him?

It was him dropping the anchor in the port. That was the biggest thing for me. I was like: “Dude, that’s the first thing you don’t do. You’ve got to let the captain know straight away. Anything you’re doing with heavy machinery, especially when you’ve got some green deckhands on the boat, you don’t want to be teaching them bad habits from the start.” Right then, I knew he wasn’t going to last. I feel like I’m a good judge of character. Speaking to him from the get-go, I knew he was a small boat captain. There are a lot of things that you miss when you are a small boat captain coming on to the super yachts. You tend to have lower standards. I knew I just had to bite my tongue and wait for my moment because it had got to come someday, right?

And it did.

I do have a serious question, though. Do you think American bosuns are at a disadvantage because they aren’t familiar with the metric system?

Yes. I was so glad I was not in Jared’s shoes when he was trying to call distances. But you know what? I don’t know the Imperial system all that well. When I was working with Captain Lee, I had to think on my toes. I was like: “Okay, meters to feet, you kind of times it by three or divide it by three roughly.” That’s what I was going off. You just kind of fake it till you make it. However, captains should know both. Jared’s a small boat captain, so I don’t know why he didn’t know both. That was another red flag I saw.

There were leadership issues with Jared from the beginning, but the rest of the deck crew really seemed to bond quickly. What was it like rooming with Kyle this season?

I don’t think I could have asked for a better roommate than Kyle. I had Tony [Dua] last season, who was fantastic. Kyle was just my man. He’d worked and lived in Australia before, so we had a lot of common ground there to build on.  He didn’t really give a shit about anything [laughs]. That’s very much the Australian way. We just got on straight away. If I had roomed with anyone else, I don’t think I would have had as fun of a season.

Speaking of someone you also had some fun with this season, I want to talk about Sunny. You two seem to have instant chemistry. What first stood out about her to you?

My relationship with Sunny marked the first time I’ve dated someone in the same department. Those were uncharted waters, excuse the pun, for me. She wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, which is necessary for someone who actually works on deck. She wanted to jump in and help out and learn and progress in her career. I’m not saying that the interior team doesn’t, but they’re more, I would say, delicate. That’s probably the way to put it. Her work ethic is what drew me to her. And she’s gorgeous too, by the way.

I want to get into the Jared drama of it all. Could you sense his time on the charter was nearing an end?

He had a lot on his plate. You got to give him that. He was struggling to find a way to have a relationship with his daughter who he’d never met face-to-face. That’s something I can’t relate to, so I didn’t really know what was going through his head there. He was managing a big team, and he as struggling a lot with a new captain and a new boat. He was just very much out of his depth.

Did you sense that the night that he was wasted and kept berating Kyle was going to be his last on the boat?

Oh, I think he was done after the end of charter two when [Stew] Barbie [Pascual] went off on him. Like, I said, I’m a good judge of character, and I was just waiting for people to see what I saw. Once Barbie noticed there was something off, it was just a domino effect. Plus, I think Jared was a bit jealous of Kyle since he and Barbie were getting closer. Once his true colors came out, it eventually led to Captain Kerry having to make the decision to fire him.

You did not hesitate to accept the role of bosun when Captain Kerry offered it to you. How eager were you to prove yourself to him and the rest of the crew?

I felt like I was already in the bosun role, to be honest. Fraser definitely saw me in that bosun role. He’d often come to me as opposed to Jared for a lot of things. Nothing really changed in that sense. I was already teaching Sunny and Kyle how to operate the anchor. They didn’t know how to operate machinery. They couldn’t drive the tender either.

So, it was me teaching a lot of the stuff while Jared was doing whatever he was doing and being his own worst enemy. Since I was already doing so much with the team, I didn’t really have to change much of my mindset. It was just more dealing with Kerry and being more in touch with him as opposed to getting information through Jared every day.

This promotion did put your “shipuationship” with Sunny in a bit of jeopardy. How did you navigate the new dynamic together?

I think navigating it is probably the key word there. It was very difficult having to step up and be her boss rather than an equal. That was the hardest thing for me. At the end of the day, I came into the season wanting to get that promotion and be a bosun on the biggest boat in Below Deck history. I wanted to be the first Australian Indigenous person in Australian history to take on a head of department role on a platform like this. That was my focus.

The relationship side of things was very much on the back burner for me. It was very hard to explain that to her because she didn’t understand the position I was in. So, it was hard. Sunny and I went back and forth a lot while we figured things out. Katie [Glaser] and Ross did it last year, and it didn’t work out.

We also had stew Cat Baugh leave the St. David this episode. Were you surprised to see her go?

Talk about a double whammy. I was surprised to see Cat go. I didn’t know the extent of her interior struggles because she seemed all right on the outside. I got only little glimpses of her turmoil and what I would hear from Fraser and Barbie and the other people. Xandi [Oliver] is obviously very strong, but Cat, she just couldn’t hold her own. She was very much a small yacht stewardess, very California vibes. She was very laid back and that’s why she was having so much trouble. The super yacht industry is very much sink or swim, and she sank unfortunately. Two people off in the one episode. Can you believe that?

And we’re not even halfway through the season.

What could go wrong?

As she was leaving the yacht, you comforted Kyle by saying, “That’s the way it goes. That’s yachting, mate.” Is it a common occurrence in the yachting industry to have crew shifts like?

It’s not. It was also very unexpected the way she left because we were still underway. We dropped the anchor, and she got off the yacht. Normally, you’d probably wait until you get to the dock or whatnot. I think Cat was very much at her wit’s end. She needed to get off and deal with what she had going on. I don’t blame her. The yachting industry does take a very big mental toll on everyone. If people say that it doesn’t, then they’re lying or being dishonest.

On the trailer for next week, we get a glimpse of the new deckhand’s arrival. What can you tell us about Dylan?

Mr. Dylan [laughs]. He’s a very good-looking fellow, to say the least. All the girls were very much peacocking around him. Though, I think it’s always good to have what we call “fresh meat” in the industry come on board. Dylan is that. People love to get into relationships on board, so the single people are always looking for the next person to come along. Dylan’s fantastic. We went over his CV, both Kerry and I. When we got word that he was joining the crew, we felt like it was a breath of fresh air. His CV was very impressive. He’s definitely a contender for the lead deckhand role now that I’m not in there anymore.

When Bravo.com asked you to describe this season in three words, you wrote, “Almost broke me.” Can you elaborate on that?

“Almost broke me.” [laughs] I think I’ve never dealt with so many frictions between people and departments. Stepping up into the bosun role was challenging, at times. I’m very much a people person, but I had to have hard conversations that very much didn’t go in my favor a lot of the time. I felt a lot of friction with Kerry and Fraser specifically. I dare say that we’re not that close any more because of the season.

About below deck sailing yacht.

Capt. Glenn and his comeback team Daisy Kelliher, Gary King and Colin MacRae resume their responsibilities aboard Parsifal III, along with new, dynamic crew members, as they set sail in Sardinia, Italy.

Capt. Glenn realizes that his laid-back leadership style has allowed his crew to become too comfortable and starts taking charge of quality control in the interior department, much to Daisy's dismay. In the galley, Chef Ilesha's cooking impresses the guests, but her indecisiveness and co-dependency lead to time-management issues between courses, which causes her to self-destruct. On deck, strong personalities collide, and a power struggle results in a near mutiny, as Gary clashes with his new overconfident deckhand, Chase.

Two overlapping love triangles further complicate the dynamics on-board, and a shocking hookup puts Colin, Daisy and Gary’s friendship in jeopardy.

With a near collision, fire, crew rebellion, gruesome guest injury and two different potentially season-ending engine failures, this is the most captivating and unpredictable season yet of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 episode 16 recap

As if we haven’t already had enough to process, Bravo has decided to start releasing two episodes of  Sailing Yacht  per week for the rest of the season, making the long-awaited, deeply mesmerizing love triangle move faster than I would have liked it to.

The episode picks up while Colin processes the revelation that Daisy and Gary previously slept together. In his cabin, Colin tells Daisy that it makes him feel weird because Gary is his friend yet has always denied that anything happened between them, and Daisy says that the sex meant nothing. Sorry, but she’s not telling the truth! I maintain that she still has feelings for Gary, and like she has previously said, she only sleeps with men she actually likes. In a confessional, Colin says that everything finally makes sense with Gary and Daisy’s chemistry and the “way they look at each other.” I think he’s the only person surprised by their hooking up, and I can’t believe it took him this long to piece it all together.

The next morning, Gary says he didn’t tell Colin because he wanted to respect Daisy’s wishes. I have a theory that he kept it a secret not because Daisy asked him to but because he knew he could use it against her one day. Colin calls it a “dickhead move” and says that he’s confused about where they stand since he’s starting to develop feelings for Daisy but would never have made a move on her had he known that there was something between them. Colin shouldn’t feel guilty for pursuing her, especially since Gary has been lying the whole time by saying he doesn’t like Daisy while continuing to tell her that he wants to be with her. Gary, like the madman he is, continues stirring the pot by mentioning that he thinks Daisy still has feelings for him “deep down.” Is it possible for him to get thrown overboard???

In a confessional, Gary confirms that he only revealed the secret as a way to get back at Daisy for asking him not to speak about it while she has been publicly affectionate with Colin on the boat. The fact that Gary is so bothered about this, even though he’s been pursuing Mads since day one, is absolutely crazy. And babe, why would anyone want to make it known that they’ve slept with you anyway? No offense to Mads!

At the preference sheet meeting, we learn that our next guests include primary SuGinia Jones, who has requested an all-white party for her birthday and wants Ileisha to cook a Caribbean meal for dinner, as well as bake a cake. Ileisha, who is unfamiliar with the cuisine, is up for the challenge of cooking out of her comfort zone but is feeling the pressure nonetheless. It doesn’t help that she badly burns her finger later, causing her to feel even more stressed. Give her a break; I’m begging!!

Afterward, Gary tells Mads about how he and Daisy had sex, and she bluntly tells him she doesn’t care with a laugh. “I think he wants me to be upset about it ’cause it gives him attention,” she says, which is true. Mads refuses to give in to Gary’s manipulative games, and it’s hilarious to see him be the one groveling for attention and affection from someone who understands their boundaries. Daisy, meanwhile, tries not to lose Colin by telling him that Gary isn’t the guy she wants to be with as if it’s a dramatic scene from a soap opera, but Colin ultimately decides that he needs space. I might do something drastic if Daisy runs into Gary’s arms now that Colin has ended things with her.

While hanging out on deck, Lucy asks where Gary is, and Alex unknowingly fuels the fire by saying that he’s likely looking for Daisy, which makes an already fuming Colin ask why he’d say that. Alex says he assumed because they’re always talking to each other, and when Colin leaves, Mads fills Alex and Lucy in on the situation. Soon enough, everyone on the boat, save for blissfully unaware Captain Glenn, knows about Gary and Daisy. See why she thought keeping it a secret would be a good idea? Gary tells Daisy that if Colin genuinely feels something for her, this information shouldn’t change his perception of her, and I agree. Daisy and Gary’s hookup happened long before she and Colin explicitly expressed anything toward each other, so he shouldn’t hold it over her, and she certainly doesn’t owe him anything. Then again, this is  Below Deck , so of course it isn’t that simple.

After the guests arrive and the boat leaves the dock the next day, the fire alarm goes off and smoke starts appearing in the engine room, causing mayhem. Gary pushes past a cameraperson as he rushes into the room, and he and the guys eventually discover that Captain Glenn was pushing the engine so fast that it caused the exhaust to smoke. After it’s resolved, Colin yells at Gary for acting panicked, and Gary mocks him for being so chill during an emergency. The crew is on the verge of falling apart, but for us, this is just another brief maintenance issue that gets resolved in the blink of an eye.

Captain Glenn’s issues with the interior are brewing once again after he gets word that Daisy didn’t respond to a radio request from Gary after a guest asked for a piña colada. He tells us that the guests having to search for a stew because there’s nobody on service is a huge pet peeve of his, but I have a feeling he’s just looking for something to criticize.

Down under, Colin texts his sister, Monica, whom he calls his “guru,” about Gary and Daisy’s hookup(s), and they chat on the phone about how Colin feels “tricked” by them. Monica wonders if Daisy wanted to keep it a secret because she felt embarrassed, joking that she also wouldn’t want anyone to know if she hooked up with Gary. I love her already. Plus, the fact that literally everyone has become this grossed out by Gary’s behavior is absolute gold.

Lucy, meanwhile, spends the whole day stressing about her final university results. When the time finally arrives to see her grades, she initially reacts disappointed and starts crying on the phone with her dad because she got a 2.1. As someone unfamiliar with the U.K. college system, I assumed that she flunked, but she assures us that it’s actually a great grade despite not being what she was hoping for. Girl, the fact that you passed is ultimately all that matters, so cheer up!

While setting up for the beach party, Gary and Daisy discuss the topic du jour, a.k.a. the Colin situation. Daisy feels bad because it “might be the catalyst of [Gary and Colin’s] friendship ending.” They bicker near the guests about whether Gary should apologize, prompting Chase to take the lead in serving the guests. He thinks that they should all get their shit together before the drama starts bleeding into the crew’s work dynamic. I agree, although it might be a little too late for that. Once they return to the boat, Ileisha serves dinner, starting with chicken stew and johnnycakes that are so perfect they bring SuGinia to tears. Not only does Ileisha hit a home run with the Caribbean dinner, but she bakes a beautiful birthday cake. Seeing her cooking throughout the season has made me desperately want to see her compete on  Top Chef .

Daisy is so distracted by all the drama involving Gary and Colin that she completely forgets to set up for the birthday party on deck. The resulting product is yet another poorly decorated fête. Like, even Gary’s party looked better! After serving the cake, Daisy asks Ileisha to slice up the leftover half, thinking the guests won’t ask for seconds. Big mistake! Lo and behold, after the cake is already cut and Daisy and Chase enjoy slices, Mads runs down to the galley to inform Ileisha that the guests want more, and Daisy is nowhere to be found as she tries to talk things out with Colin. The episode ends with a confessional from Colin where he expresses that his heart is telling him to be with Daisy while his brain tells him to “stay out of it.”

Given what’s been happening recently with Daisy and Colin unfollowing each other on Instagram and Daisy being critical of him on  Watch What Happens Live  but saying nice things about Gary, I’m going to assume that whatever decisions he makes the rest of the season won’t make her — or us — very happy.

‘Below Deck’ Sails Into a New Era

With a different captain at the helm and new production elements, the reality show about charter yachts is switching up its style.

A man in a crew member suit stands behind a bar and tends to flowers in a vase.

By Shivani Gonzalez

Starting a new season of “ Below Deck ” can be similar to returning to summer camp as a kid — you know it’s going to be fun and that you’ll be in the same environment, but some of the people will be different and you’re not quite sure what the vibes will be.

This time around, in particular, feels that way because for the first time in the show’s 11-season run, Captain Lee Rosbach is no longer at the helm. It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that has become one of the most popular entities in the sprawling universe of reality TV since premiering on Bravo in 2013 . The show’s appeal was built on endless romances between various crew members (“boatmances,” as they came to be known), horrible charter guests and some sort of passive-aggressive fight about how many shackles of the anchor chain should be in the water. And there was always Rosbach presiding over the drama as he trudged around the boat, reeling off one liners like “I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken” and “we screwed the pooch so many times we should have a litter of puppies running around.”

At the center of the show now is Kerry Titheradge (the stern yet goofy captain of “Below Deck Adventure” fame), who is managing the Motor Yacht Saint David with the cheeky chief stew Fraser Olender by his side.

With that change in captain, the energy on the boat — both onscreen and off — is different, according to Olender.

“Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” Olender said in an interview. “With Kerry, he taught me a lot and sort of forced to me confront issues directly with my team, work them out, as opposed to making executive decisions too soon.”

This shift in management style changes the central conflict — whereas the drama once focused on the captain swiftly kicking out any unpleasant crew member (as we might have seen with Rosbach), the drama now focuses on the whole crew trying to get along (since Titheradge gives people those second chances).

Additionally, Olender noted that the captain’s relationship with the crew can also affect the drama on board.

“Captains absolutely do get involved, whether they know it or not,” Olender said, adding that for the crew, everything is about “trying to impress your captain.”

This phenomenon plays out early in the new season when the lead deckhand, Ben Willoughby, called out a fellow crew member over the radios about not wearing a life vest — something he easily could have done in private. The drama that followed became an interpersonal conflict between the two of them, both with the ultimate goal of impressing Titheradge. (Of course, the two deckhands had kissed on the previous crew night out, which is more in line with the “Below Deck” drama viewers are used to.)

For “Below Deck” showrunners, the changeovers in the cast allowed them to rethink what the show would look like.

From the season premiere, it was immediately apparent that Rosbach’s absence wasn’t the only change this season: The filming is sleeker, the daily, multicourse meals prepared by the chef are given their own glamour shots and the cameras sometimes cut to the perspectives of yachties running around on deck and through the galley.

“Our showrunner, Lauren Simms, is an avid consumer of all different kinds of media,” Noah Samton, a senior vice president of unscripted current production for NBCUniversal, said in an interview. “She pitches us different ideas on how to stylistically evoke different feelings and change the mood a little bit of ‘Below Deck’ without removing what really works.”

Moving through the rest of the season, and potentially through seasons to come, Olender is aiming to bring a cutthroat management style while also bringing affection for his stews, all with his signature British humor.

On Bravo’s side, there are changes in the works for the other “Below Deck” spinoffs — including “Sailing Yacht,” “Mediterranean” and “Down Under” — which collectively, have 26 seasons. Specifically, Samton said that “Down Under” is currently filming and that even though fans should be ready to see new things, the show will stay true to its original concept.

“These are real yachties doing a real job so you have to stay within those confines because the audience isn’t going to want anything that is too produced or fake,” Samton said. “So we have to find ways to reinvent while staying true to the original concept of the show.”

And as Olender said: “I’m sure that every year if I were to work with this franchise again, that I’ll be thrown a collection of total chaotic and disastrous stews — that’s what makes it watchable.”

An earlier version of this article misquoted Fraser Olender, the chief stew of “Below Deck.” He said, “I also feel like Kerry this season. ... Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” not “I feel like Kerry this season, as opposed to Lee, has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him.”
