The Ultimate Yachtie Guide To Antibes And Cote D’Azur
The Cote d’Azur has different cities in which you might be sailing, all of them worth knowing! This area is a little bit more expensive than other places in the Mediterranean due to the luxury lifestyle in this area. So stepping off the yacht after a long season will be a hit to your pocket, but hopefully, those charter tips make up for it.
If Antibes is your first port of call as a green yacht crew member, you are in the right place to dockwalk the entire Cote D’Azur. If you are looking to get your first job on a superyacht check out our mega post on starting out in the industry. It will give you extra tips and pointers to help you land your CV on the captain pile.
If you are wintering in Antibes and looking for some long weekend ideas, head up to the French Alps

Getting Around
Uber works as a perfect option if you are in a rush, but keep in mind the high costs. A short trip will easily cost 15 euros, and going between ports will jump closer to 100 euros. Your best bet is getting the local train which runs the entire distance and frequently stops at the main stations.
More crew are starting to buy electric scooters, which are handy. Otherwise, keep your bike or skateboard handy. It gets hot in summer, and it’s a bit faster to get around. Antibes port is near to the old town but be prepared for a long walk if you want to hit up the beach bars on the other side. Wear comfortable shoes!
Expect to pay about 1.50 EUR for each minute distance in Uber (approx for consideration) whereas the single train ticket cost starts from 3,10 EUR. Bargain! (side note, you can buy snacks and wine on the train!)

Crew days off
All of the cities are coastal cities, therefore, all of them have beautiful beaches.
Stroll the laneways of old Town Antibes , find the beautiful markets and have lunch at a local cafe.
Visit Grasse , the city famous for the creation of perfums (30 minutes ride by car)
Hike Cap D’Antibes for sports lovers (2 hours Trekking) and find the Plage of Garoupe, a hidden public beach.
You can hire kayaks off the beach in Juan Les Pins.
Things to do in the surrounding city if you had a full day to explore
Visit Eze , a beautiful city to walk and explore (City between Nice and Monaco) The hike out there is popular, and you can have a chilled glass of rose at the end of it in the village!
Visit Cannes, Antibes, Nice, Monaco all of them are just 30-40 minute distance between them – if you are in any of these cities you will love to visit these neighbouring cities and explore. You can easily take the train and walk to your destination.
For something totally different- try Tandem paragliding in Greolieres .
Hire a car (or take the crew car if you can!) and drive out to the Gorges du Verdon . It’s a stunning spot just a few hour’s drive away where you can kayak, white water raft or do Via Ferrata.
If you take the train to San Remo , there is a cycle track that loops from the railway station to San Lorenzo and back. It’s 30 km in total and San Lorenzo is the perfect place for a nice lunch before you cycle back. You can easily rent a bike from one of the many places around the station carpark.
Take the crew car again, and go Paddleboarding at Lac St Cassien or the Esterels . The tourist offices have guidebooks for mountain biking, horse riding and local hiking trails.
Hiking, there are so many, some are close by, for example, a walk up a valley from Biot to Vallbone. Download the app called AllTrails for more ideas.
There is a forest canyon ropes courses and zip lines in Ville Neurve Loubet which make for a great day out. Also, plenty of bike trails winding through castles, and villages and offering something different from Antibes usual vibe.
If you are wintering in Antibes and want to get away, Isola or Auron , are ski stations less than 2.5 hours drive from Antibes.
Antibes Beaches
Being based in Antibes has its perks for you- there are so many beaches to explore. A word of caution though, during summer these are absolute hot spots, so get there early to claim your patch of “sand”
- Plage de la Gravette (aka the toilet bowl) is a sandy beach right in the heart of town, located right beside Port Vauban – it gets busy in summer because of its location.
- Plage de la Salis and Ponteil are two sandy beaches a short distance from old town Antibes – there are ‘snacks’ (food kiosks) located there, public toilets and a sailing club where you can hire kayaks, windsurfers etc.
- If you want a private beach, Royal Beach has a nice outlook on the sea and offers loungers and umbrellas for a fee.
- A bit further from Antibes, Plage de la Garoupe has a small public beach (super busy in summer) and private beach clubs at Plage Keller and Plage Joseph .

Located on the Cote d’Azur tucked in between Cannes and Nice, Antibes is a vibrant seaside town full of character and the sort of charm you will only find in the South of France. Perhaps for this reason (and a large well-protected port), Antibes had, for a long time, already established itself as the main yachting hub on The French Riviera – no wonder why so many hopeful “greenies” looking to get started in the industry choose this destination every season as their starting out point in yachting.
Similar to most other Mediterranean ports, Antibes screams of history; originally the city was established as Antipolis by the Greeks in the fifth century BC before becoming a part of the Roman empire a good 300 years later. It was not until the fall of the empire and the following centuries of unrest that the city finally came under French rule during the 15 th century. Later on the port became the base of Louis XIV’s navy and in more recent times also suffered German bombardments during WWII due to its’ strategic location. Eventually, the once quaint fishing village became a hotspot for the international jet set and consequently turned into the superyacht port it is known as today – the largest in Europe!
For us yachties Antibes is the perfect place to be based – and to start out in the industry. Nearly all types of yachting facilities and services are found in the area, if not just a step down the coast. You will find a plethora of crew houses, crew agencies, training schools etc. and for those looking for work, most marinas are easy to access making dockwalking fairly straight forward. Yachts of all sizes are moored in the marinas along the riviera and it is both easy and economical to travel to other ports such as Cannes, Nice and Monaco – and even into Italy.
Just a short walk from Port Vauban, inside the city walls the narrow cobblestone streets are full of quaint little cafes, bars, restaurants and small boutiques. Not to be missed is the colourful city market “Le Marché Provençal”, a typical French market boasting farmers’ fresh produce (did anyone say “fromage”?), charcuterie, fruit, flowers, food stalls, local crafts, clothes and fabrics – you name it!
As if this is not enough, Antibes also offers some of the best beaches on the French Riviera. Get yourself a great tan or go explore the South of France by bus and train – or by car if your budget allows. Hiring a car venturing up into the Alps with a few good mates or perhaps setting off on a long-weekend road trip around the villages of Provence is one of those experiences that will make your friends at home green with envy. France has so much to offer and it would be almost criminal not to take advantage of it while you are there!
One thing is for sure; Antibes and the Cote d’Azur will stay with you forever. Perhaps you will even follow in the footsteps of 100s if not 1000s of other yachties and settle here one day. Bienvenu!

Antibes Information
Enjoying antibes, crew houses, property agencies, flat shares, room booking sites, transport info, tourist information, crew training, crew agencies, marinas and shipyards, crew medical services, emergency contacts.
1 Reserve crew house well in advance The yachting hubs get very busy during the season with crew houses known to be fully booked from the end of March throughout June-ish. If you decide to stay in a crew house, then it is vital to make a reservation as soon as you know when you will be going. Make sure to bring a printed confirmation. A listing of crew houses can be found in the Crew Houses-section. Alternatively, you also have the option of staying in a hostel. HostelWorld is a brilliant tool to help you find the most suitable hostels for soon-to-be-yachties.
2 Passport- and visa copy Keep with you a laminated copy of your passport and any visa you may be required. This way you limit the risk of being stuck overseas without any sort of ID. Include your emergency contact numbers on the backside and possibly also your blood type.
3. Credit Card numbers Make a note of your credit card numbers and the related lost/stolen telephone help line. You can leave them on a note with your family, for instance.
4 Local Transport Whether you are headed to Antibes, Cannes, Monaco or Nice public transportation is quite good and affordable and will get you there easily. During the evenings or on public holidays (or when the French go on strike) your options can be somewhat limited. Tell the driver where you need to go, and he will normally let you know where to get off. If you plan on using buses and trains on a regular basis, then you can save yourself a fair amount of money by getting a weekly pass.
Watch your belongings when using public transportation. Several cases of crew having lost bags, phones etc. have been reported in the past.

Discounted bus passes are available from the outlets and ticket dispensers making it even cheaper to get around!
Taxi: The taxi stand is found outside the airport, just follow the Taxis-sign. In Terminal 1 use exit A1 and in Terminal 2 use exit A3. Taxi Rates from Nice Airport: Antibes: 60 Euros Cannes: 80 Euros Monaco: 90 Euros Nice City Centre: 32 Euros

Train: To get to Antibes by train transfer to the regional fast train know as the TER at Gare Nice-St Augustin or Gare Nice-Ville. There you can jump on the TER Line 3, direction Les Arcs or TER Line 4, direction Mandeliu-La-Napoule. To get to Monaco, get the TER Line 4, direction Vintimille (Ventimiglia-Stazione).
Prices vary depending on the distance and time of the day, you will be traveling, but count on less than 5 Euros. You can book online on the SNCF website or pay in the ticket office.
Train passes are know as “ZOU Hebdo. It is a weekly pass between 2 points of your choice on the TER coastal train. It gives you huge discounts (up to 75%) and is perfect for dockwalkers! If you are under 26 years of age, you pay 15 Euros for a card which gives you 50% discount on every train for up to 3 people. Between June and September, the stations offer a “ZOU Pass” for 15. This gives you UNLIMITED one-day train travel on the TER network, which is super useful for long distances e. g. between Monaco and Mandelieu etc. To save yourself a lot of money, inquire about the current plans at any train station. Happy train travels and once again, watch your belongings!
Tram: To get on the train, you will need to travel by Tram line 2 to either Gare Nice-St Augustin or Gare Nice-Ville. You can catch the tram by exit A0 in Terminal 1 or exit A2 in Terminal 2.
Trams start at 8am and stop running from somewhere between19.00 -21.00h all depending on the day of the week. For further info, please see the Tram Schedule The tram fare is FREE if you travel to the Grand Arenas-station. All other stations are 1.50 Euros. Going TO the airport make sure to get the AEROPORT connection and NOT the CADAM – they are easily confused! !
Alternatively, you can also take the Aeroport Direct-bus which operates early mornings and evenings to get to the train station.
Uber: Another popular option is Uber, the door-to-door service. Once you have downloaded the app, you can check the price to your destination and book your ride via the app. Pricier than the bus and the train, but it will get you to your destination safely and without any uncertainties.
5. ATMs: A few good pointers to how you can save money / avoid being scammed when using ATMs and shopping with your bank card overseas;
– ALWAYS withdraw in LOCAL currency (US$ in US, EUROS in EU/Euro zone, GBP in UK, Rand in South Africa, Swiss Francs in Switzerland etc. )
– ALWAYS decline conversion (leave it to your own bank)
– ALWAYS pay good attention to the transaction fee – in particular in areas with lots of nightlife. (one yachty experienced being charged 50 USD in Cancun just to withdraw 100 USD! ! ! )
– Some ATMs will offer quite large amounts (to make a larger profit from the transaction). In such case, see what your alternative options are.
Check out this great explanatory video where you will see how it works in real life. Potentially, it will save you a lot of money!
6 Get a local SIM card Getting yourself set up with a local telephone number is not strictly required. Yet, people prefer to call local numbers rather than overseas numbers despite everyone being on WhatsApp these days. Furthermore, you may avoid any roaming charges associated with your current provider.
In France many yachties use Free Mobile Sosh Mobile
Free Mobile is the most widely used service by yachties in the South of France. The closest Free Mobile store is in the Antibes Centre Commercial by the big Carrefour hypermarket as well as in Cap 3000 (shopping centre by Nice Airport) in Nice. All are open Mon-Saturday, but with different closing times. Check out the Free store locator.
As soon as you have a local number make sure to include it on your CV and business card as well as updating your number with any crew agencies you are signed up with.
7. Print business cards and CVs
The sooner you have your CV and business cards (the French call it a Carte de Visite) printed, the sooner you will be ready to start the job hunt.
Both clip art and templates are available for free online. The very simple design above was made using Canva (which also offers great templates for your CV). They even give you the option to include nautical themes such as an anchor, a lighthouse, a compass, a sail, waves, a rising sun, a dolphin you name it…
Alternatively, for a very minimal fee you can have a professional designer create a print-ready professional looking business card (and CVs) on FIVERR. The design below includes double-sided design and unlimited revisions. This business card was designed by a designer starting her design service at just 5 USD.
Make sure to include the following information: Position Name Telephone / WhatsApp / Skype Short objective / Available for Daywork, Freelance, Deliveries, Full-time or Part Time work as applies to you Qualifications Photo (optional, although it will help the recipient remember you) QR code* with link to your CV
*Free QR codes can easily be generated online. Next, download the scannable code and include it with your business card.
Your business card does not have to be the highest print quality available, but obviously the better quality the more it will stand out. Many yachties use Moo. com and VistaPrint. com. Both are great services and well-recommended. You can work on this in advance and have your business cards delivered straight to your crew house or your home address prior to traveling to Antibes, although doing so you will not be able to include a local number.
Locally, yachties have been recommending business card- and CV printing in these locations (among others): Antibes Imprimerie 5, rue Vauban S. G. S. Print 26, rue Lacan
How many cards and CVs to print is up to you to decide, but somewhere around 50-100 CVs and perhaps 200 business cards should do you fine to begin with. It is easy to have more printed, if necessary.
As for printing CVs, one important thing to remember is that if you work on it or make prints in a public internet cafe etc. always remember to delete your CV off the computer, when you are done.
8. Get to know the ports Finding out which ports are most popular with superyachts is essential, obviously. Pick the brains of others staying in your crew house or hostel. They will most likely know where to go. Some marinas will be way better for dockwalking than others. Some may be gated, while others may have easy access. Some may have lots of large yachts, while others are for small pleasure yachts with no professional crew on board.
And then there are the shipyards, where there is always work going on. They will usually have security by the gate, often with strict security measures. There is a good reason for that; other than providing security for their clients, with a lot of heavy machinery moving around and the type of work going on, dockwalking can be dangerous, in particular for newcomers to yachting. Generally, dockwalking is not recommended in shipyards. Instead try and meet crew in the yachty bars after work.
Here is a list of some of the marinas and shipyards popular with superyachts in
FRANCE / ITALY
Antibes: Port Vauban, IYCA* Juan-Les-Pins: Port Gallice Golfe Juan: Port Camille Rayon Cannes: Port de Cannes, Port Pierre Canto Nice: Port de Nice Monaco: Port Hercules, Port de Fontvielle La Ciotat: La Citotat Shipyards** San Remo: Portosole Imperia: Porto Maurizio Genoa: Porto Antico, Molo Vecchio, Marina Genova Aeroporto Viareggio: Porto di Viareggio * Gated Marina ** Gated Shipyard dockwalking not encouraged
You can use MarineTraffic to see how busy the various ports in your area are.
9 Network There is little doubt that he large majority of crew jobs goes through word of mouth. For this reason, it is really important for you to start building a good network within the industry already from Day 1.
The more people, who knows you are looking for work, the larger are your chances of finding work. It is often seen that a yacht already employing a dayworker or two needs more dayworkers the following day. In such a case the captain will nearly always ask the dayworkers if they know of anyone else, who may be available. That’s where you get in the picture, but only if you have an established network. Here are a few of ideas of how to do that;
First off, build a good reputation for yourself as being friendly and helpful and be sociable.
When you do yachting courses meet up for a drink or two after training is over and connect with everyone attending the course on Facebook. If you do your STCW and other entry-level training keep in touch with your fellow students. Stay in a crew house instead of private accommodation. If you stay in a crew house be sociable with everyone. It is no secret that sailors like a drink or three. Neither is it a secret that the best way to meet yacht crew is either when dayworking or in the bars. When you daywork, be friendly and sociable with everyone on board without interfering with their work. You may run into them in the bar one of the coming days or perhaps in years from now on a different yacht! Try not to miss out on any yachting events such as boat shows, crew events, webinars or crew dinners. These events will normally be announced ahead of time in the Yacht Crew Facebook groups, among others. When you meet people in the industry, share your business card and within reason ask them if you may add that person on Facebook. Use Facebook to build your network. Set up an account purely for yachting and add other yachties and industry professionals. Be active with posting photos etc. , which gives them something to comment on. Make sure, they can tag you in job posts. In the Facebook group covering your current location ask if there is anyone, who might be interested to meet up. You could ask if there is anyone from your country in town or if there is anyone interested in participating in an activity that you both share (rent a car to go exploring for the weekend, go for a run, go to the beach, go on a hike, go to the movies, meet up for a drink, go to watch rugby or Champions League in a bar, go out for a pizza etc. ).
After work many venture out for a drink just to get off the boat for a little while. Crew tend to frequent the same bars, no matter where in the world, they are located. Some of the more popular yachty bars in the area are;
Antibes The Duke The Hopstore The Blue Lady) Cannes Ma Nolans Monaco Starsn Bars Nice Ma Nolans San Remo (Italy) The Red Lion
Long story short, making a good name for yourself and being proactive in your quest to build a larger network will pay off, eventually. The more people you know, the larger are the chances that work will come to you. Good luck!
10. Weekly budget Make your money last as long as possible. As simple as that may sound, you will have a fair few expenses including; Travel insurance Airfare Local transportation Accommodation Printing of business cards and CVs Mobile phone Food Drinks Training & ENG/1 Unforeseen expenses
Your expenses will vary all depending on the location. South of France is by far the most expensive destination in Europe, while Palma is not exactly super cheap either. Fort Lauderdale is somewhere in between.
To keep you going for as long as possible, it is really important to keep your expenses in control. A good way to make your money stretch a bit longer is to create a weekly budget for the expenses mentioned above. When you reach your weekly set budget for beers, then you know to kick back on that account for the next few days or perhaps you can go all in on cold beers and wine on Sunday afternoon
You can also save a fair amount of money on making your own food or sharing with others rather than going out for pizzas, kebabs and burgers.
In Antibes some have been using the local campsites in the past, which saved them a bunch of money. Unfortunately, camping is unavailable in many other locations, including Palma. Many end up renting a private room or share a flat with other job seeking yachties. These options are cheaper than most crew houses and hostels, but keep in mind the importance of networking, which will be limited in particular when renting a private room. If you choose to stay in a hostel or in a crew house inquire about prices prior to booking. You can find a list of crew houses and hostels in the crew house section.
There is also money to be saved on local transportation. To get you around, you can buy a second hand bicycle or moped on Facebook or travel by bus and train instead of by taxi, which is not exactly cheap in the South of France. Uber is also available as a somewhat economical alternative to jumping in a taxi. Most public transportation will offer discounts on multiple journeys or day passes so look into that. There are links posted in the Local Transport-section.
When it comes to printing business cards, then you can have FREE business cards printed on VistaPrint. They come with a small advert on the backside, but they do the job alright!
Phone plans continue to change, so it is impossible to say which one is cheapest and which one suits your needs best, but also there you can save yourself a bunch. Shop around, check online rates and if in doubt, ask on Antibes Yacht Crew to see what other crew recommends. Seemingly, most local crew use Free Mobile. You can find them in the Antibes Centre Commercial by the big Carrefour hypermarket.
Finding daywork is obviously a complete game changer when it comes to your budget. Suddenly, you have an income, which will make life so much easier plus you spend less if you eat on board. Keep spending your money wisely. You never know when you will find work next.
Putting a number on any of the expenses mentioned above is nearly impossible, as we are all different. Some will not mind sleeping in a tent, while others may want to share an AirBnB rental apartment. Some may be partying everyday while others will meet up for a cup of coffee here and there. Some may not find any daywork (it is not entirely uncommon, unfortunately), while others find daywork on day 1. In Antibes, count on a monthly budget in the range of 2,000 Euros overall (not including training and medical expenses).
Watch over your money like a hawk! It is not rocket science; if you piss it away, apart from having a good time, your job hunt may come to an end much sooner.
11. Training Having the right credentials is key to finding a job on a yacht. In an industry that is surrounded by rules and regulations, there is just no way around it. Common for all crew, you must have your STCW/10 Basic Safety Training (sometimes referred to as STCW/95) and the ENG/1 or a similar seafarer medical certificate.
The minimum requirements to work on a yacht depends on the position you are looking for;
Deckhand: STCW/10, Powerboat 1+2 including VHF Stewardess: STCW/10, Food & Hygiene Level 2 Engineer: STCW/10, AEC Chef: STCW/10, Ship’s Cook Certificate Desirable courses, which will improve your chances of finding work: Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) (all crew) Personal Water Craft Instructor (PWC Instructor) (Deckhands) Yachtmaster Offshore (Deckhands) Silver Service (Stewardesses)
If these courses are not available in your current location, you can do them in Antibes, Palma, Fort Lauderdale and UK – among others but remember to book your courses well in advance!
In the Crew Positions section, you can read more about which certificates are necessary to work in the position you are looking for and to progress up the ranks.
Course prices vary hugely between destinations. In countries such as South Africa, the Philippines and various Eastern European countries, you will find some of the best prices. In the UK and US prices are fairly reasonable while in Palma and Antibes some prices are at the higher end of the scale. It definitely pays to compare prices between the schools if you are on a somewhat tight budget. Do keep in mind any added travel expenses should you decide to do courses in other locations. Also make sure whether or not VAT is included in the course price. Some schools list their prices excluding VAT.
There are a number of training schools in Antibes. All of them have a good reputation, and prices are mostly about the same. Some may offer you 10% Palma Yacht Crew discount off some courses, but you will have to inquire directly.
Courses available in Antibes include (but are not limited to)
STCW/10 Powerboat Level 1+2 Yachtmaster Offshore and Ocean Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) PWC Proficiency / Instructor GMDSS OOW modules AEC 1 Food Safety & Hygiene Level 2 Silver Service G. U. E. S. T. interior modules Medical training

SUPERYACHT MARINAS ON THE COTE DAZUR
Get to know the ports Finding out which ports are most popular with superyachts is essential, obviously. Pick the brains of others staying in your crew house or hostel. They will most likely know where to go. Some marinas will be way better for dockwalking than others. Some may be gated, while others may have easy access. Some may have lots of large yachts, while others are for small pleasure yachts with no professional crew on board.

General opening hours for pharmacies in France are Mon-Saturday 08.30-12.00 and then again from 14.00-19.30h. In larger cities they remain open during lunch hours. The IYCA district has been completely modernised as part of Port Vauban’s architectural project, lead by the Atelier d’Architecture Philippe Prost. As well as new infrastructure, we upgrades all the superyachting services available in the area.
The facilities
The new International Yacht Club d’Antibes provides clients in search of discretion with a premium, personalised welcome in the helipad lounge. The yacht club will also offer premium facilities, CCTV surveillance, conference rooms, and crew team-building programmes.
High-end facilities for the Camille Rayon Quay
The new Camille Rayon Quay will feature crew relaxation areas to make the most of the scenic setting. The shaded areas will be perfect for barbecues and outdoor sports.
Private storage and technical premises mean that day-to-day repairs such as welding and light maintenance can be carried out in winter.
Clients can also enjoy private access (ISPS), a concierge service, VIP pontoons, electric golf cart loan and event and catering spaces.
An exceptional Crew Center
The architectural programme developped by Philippe Prost included the creation of a Crew Centre solely for IYCA crew, with a lounge, fitness studio, gym and adjoining changing rooms.
Upstairs, there is a new bar, lounge, clubhouse, caterer and a two panoramic terraces of a total of 700 m², with stunning views of the Fort Carré, the harbour and the Bay of Antibes.
Organise your own event
IYCA members can benefit from our exclusive facilities to organise indoor and outdoor private events.
The Yacht Club is now a prime custom space for crews completed with an intimate lounge, relaxation areas, games room, gym and lounge bar celebrating the stylistic codes of the maritime world in a pure yachting spirit and 700 m2 of terraces on the 1st and 2nd floors offer panoramic views.
If you’re looking for an exceptional and authentic event venue, the Yacht Club offers members its offices, meeting rooms, relaxation areas, high-end services and prime location at the foot of Fort Carré, encouraging a party atmosphere or purely contemplative experiences.

A New Partnership
“Burgess and Edmiston have joined forces with the Port Vauban to offer long-term guarantee of use contracts for berths on the Camille Rayon quay.
For Vauban 21, this partnership should enable the port’s commercial attractiveness to be enhanced internationally by drawing on the expertise and professional networks of Burgess and Edmiston, both of which are well-known companies in the yachting sector.

Yacht Charter Antibes: The Top Things to Do During Your Charter
Antibes Old Town (Vieille Antibes) is reasonably small to explore. So a day charter here is ideal if added onto a yacht charter from Cannes, St Tropez or Monaco.
There are a number of diverse museums including the Musée Peynet, Archaeology Museum, Musée de la Tour and Postcard Museum. The best known of Antibes’ museums is the Picasso Museum. Located inside the restored Château Grimaldi, that once belonged to the influential Grimaldi family who took royal posts in Cagnes, Monaco and Grasse.
The Picasso Museum is best reached by walking along the old remparts where you can get panoramic views of the town beach Plage de la Gravette, the superyachts berthed at the IYCA (International Yacht Club d’Antibes) quay at Port Vauban and 16 th -century Fort Carré in the distance.
Antibes’ markets offer a glimpse into French life. The Marché Provençal at Cours Masséna is a lively market, selling fruit, vegetables, flowers, cured meats, olives, herbs and hand-milled soaps. It is open daily except Mondays from September to May. Thursday sees the rue Lacan car park become a large clothing market. And also a small but interesting antiques / brocante market is hosted at place Audiberti on both Thursday and Saturday.
The district of Safranier at the western edge of Old Town has pretty cobblestoned streets with flower boxes. It also has the ancient lavoir (wash house) and at number 8 Rue Bas-Castellet you’ll find the house that Nikos Kazantzakis, the author of ‘Zorba the Greek’ lived in. Don’t forget your camera on your yacht charter Antibes!
Antibes has a good range of restaurants and bars if you're seeking a meal or drink ashore.
Suggested Restaurants and Bars in Antibes
Antibes has a good range of restaurants and bars if you’re seeking a meal or drink ashore. 212 Yachts can give suggestions for the latest bars to frequent and top restaurants. Or for a place to relax with a quiet drink in the evening during your yacht charter Antibes.
Le Figuier de Saint-Espirit, located 5 minutes walk from Port Vauban, is hidden off the tourist path but worth finding. Awarded a Michelin star, Chef Christian Morisset focuses on precise cooking with immaculate presentation. They often have ‘2 meals for the price of 1’ promotions on their website. Make a reservation for a table under the fig tree in the courtyard.
A Taste of the Finest Wines
If you fancy a glass of wine try one of three distinctly different wine bars, all located within a few minutes from Port Vauban. Winebar is the latest addition to Antibes nightlife. A chic bar with contemporary décor with highly knowledgeable bar staff. Café Brun is popular with a young crowd. It has friendly staff and a funky décor with leather armchairs, bicycles suspended from the ceiling and great artwork. Ô 6 Conceptstore Bar à Vins (6 rue des Palmiers) with vaulted stone interior. With weekly live music it’s a good choice for an apéritif.
Le Carnet de Bord is a bistro-style restaurant where diners can choose from an inventive menu. With specialties such as scallops with pumpkin, ginger and fennel or caramelised pork fillet with girolle mushrooms and sweet potato. Ensure you reserve a table as the seating is limited.
La Tour Antique ( 4 rue de la Tourraque) situated a short distance from the remparts is ideal for a romantic meal. With less than 20 covers reservations are essential, as locals and tourists alike seek out this Italian restaurant. The menu is concise with 4 options for entrees, pasta, mains and desserts. However, you won’t regret dining there as the hospitable staff present quality food in a welcoming atmosphere.
For a relaxed ambiance, Pimm’s Bar on rue de la République is a fantastic place to sit with a pastis or chilled glass of rosé and watch the passerbys. To sample the best pâtisseries head to Pâtisserie Cottard (8 boulevard Dugommier) or Aux Délices Antibois (12 rue de la République).
For yacht charter clients, Antibes has a diverse range of stores retailing everything from souvenirs to Marseillaise soaps to homewares and luxury accessories.
Yacht Charter Antibes: Shopping Opportunities

If you’re looking for gifts, head to rue Aubernon, rue Thuret, place Nationale and rue James Close. There you’ll find shops with displays of jewellery, paintings, gadgets, children’s toys, homeware and fragranced body products.
For fashion, wander along rue Georges Clemenceau, rue de la République or the top of boulevard Wilson.
Food connoisseurs stroll along rue Sade with it’s boutiques with gourmet food products and premium kitchenware. We recommend Fromagerie L’Etable (1 rue Sade) who are one of the French Riviera’s best cheese suppliers. Maison Bremond 1830 (4 rue Sade) stocks artisan vinegars and conserves is also a must see. Amalthé (12 rue Sade) has beautiful tins of tea blends or stop into Oliviers & Co (13 rue Sade) for exceptional olive oil.

Cap d’Antibes yacht charter
The Cap d’Antibes headland west of Antibes is home to some of the French Riviera’s priciest real estate and spectacular views from the plateau of the Chapelle de la Garoupe. Yachts anchor at Plage de Garoupe where there are a number of beach restaurants. There is also a scenic coastal pathway that weaves past the villas and rocky coves.
A popular spot for anchoring is the cove of Baie des Milliardaires and l’Argent Faux below the historic Villa Eilenroc. Day charters can also stop off at the beautiful Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc for lunch at the Eden-Roc Restaurant or Eden-Roc Grill and Bar.

ESSENTIAL YACHT CREW GUIDES
Navigating the yacht crew scene: top yacht crew hubs to know.
Traditionally, there are a few towns around the world that are known as the yachting hubs. These are places with large ports for superyachts and it’s where yacht crew, yacht crew recruitment agencies and other yachting related businesses base around.
Chances are that you might be based in one of these while working onboard a yacht but these are also places where people who are looking for work on board a yacht come to increase their chances of finding a job. At any given time of the year these places are known to be a home to yacht crew and a place where you are likely to meet other crew members.
Antibes is a small town in the South of France, nestled between Cannes and Nice. It’s the largest yachting hub in the Mediterranean and is also the home of YPI CREW and the famous superyacht port Vauban.
A very good thing about Antibes is that its location allows you to easily travel and explore the entire area between St. Tropez and Monaco.
If you are looking for your first yachting job and are coming to Antibes, we recommend to stay in one of the crew houses, where you can connect with other crew members.
Popular places where you will always find yacht crew include The Blue Lady , Hop Store and The Drinkers Club .
If you are looking for work, be sure to stop by our YPI CREW office that is located at 6 Avenue de la Liberation .
Antibes, France
This is the main yachting hub for most of U.S. yacht crew and a home to many. Here, you encounter flocks of yachties enjoying the many bars and restaurants the city has to offer.
Fort Lauderdale is a hive of yachting activity. Equipped with superyacht marinas and shipyards, training facilities and yachting industry vendors and businesses, this is undisputedly the yachting capital of the United States.
To connect with crew and meet some friends in the industry, head out to Tap 42 — a local spot for a lot of yachties to hang out — which is conveniently near to a lot of crew houses in the area.
Located close to Lauderdale harbours, Waxy O’Connors is another yacht crew’s favourite and often a first stop after a long Atlantic crossing.
Boatyard is also a good yacht crew place, a very beautiful waterside restaurant where yacht crew often enjoy a good meal and drink combo.
Fort Lauderdale, USA
Palma is the capital city of the Spanish island of Mallorca, known for its turquoise waters and its beautiful historic quarter that is marked by the iconic Santa Maria cathedral.
The city has a great vibe, which attracts yacht owners and crew alike. It is favoured by many yacht crew, who have fallen for the city’s charm and even made it their home by settling and buying properties there.
If you find yourself here and want to connect with other yacht crew, some of the more popular yacht crew bars in the area include The Corner Bar, Cuba Bar and Havana Bar.
Palma de Mallorca, Spain

If your yacht is berthed here, you will have access to the crew area equipped with BBQ’s, dart boards, a pool table, table tennis, game consoles, a 24/7 access fitness centre, an outdoor swimming pool, sun loungers, a cosy fire pit and free WIFI.
Outside the marina, West Palm Beach offers a rich nightlife with plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes. Nearby you can also find good hiking options and parks. Most seasoned crew are familiar with Barcelona and its famous superyacht port, Marina Port Vell, located in the heart of the Barceloneta Area.
It’s a vibrant city with many things to see and explore and tons of options for things to do. There are tons of different neighbourhoods, each of them with different vibe and things to offer.
The official languages of the city are Catalan and Spanish but Barcelona is a multi-cultural city so most places will understand English.
Something to be very aware of when visiting Barcelona is that there is a lot of mugging that happens here so always keep your belongings safe and never keep your phone on the table in a bar or a restaurant.
There are amazing opportunities to socialise and develop in Spain’s vibrant yachting hub. To enable yacht crew to connect with each other, Marina Port Vell often organises yacht crew activities such as yoga classes, social crew events, training sessions and captain’s meetings and seminars.

Berth Description
The BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY also known as the “IYCA”, currently stretches 650 m out into the sea and is the main breakwater of the entire port Vauban of Antibes. It has 19 berths for yachts up to 90 m in length, including two larger berths for 150 m and 165 m Megayachts. The leaseholds giving the right to use the berths located on this famous quay sell for record figures and they are extremely limited and highly demanded.
The berth owners of the BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY in Antibes are among the wealthiest individuals on the planet, and their Megayachts, the most stunning. Though this quay was an ambitious project in its early days, this section of the port is nowadays also subject to overwhelming demand.
Knowing how much Megayachts generate for the economy, since 2011 the port Vauban and the town of Antibes have projected an expansion which would double the length of the jetty up to 1,250 m, creating an additional 450 m of quay for 25 Superyacht and Megayacht berths, with the possibility to even welcome cruise ships, as well as creating shelter for the area on the north-eastern flank of Fort Carré. The cost of this extension is estimated at 230,000,000 €.
The exploitation of the basin of the BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY in Port Vauban of Antibes is managed by the International Yacht Club of Antibes “IYCA”, which financed and realized this project of moorings for Megayachts.
The BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY is located opposite the Fort Vauban hill and the berth layouts features a configuration essentially for Megayachts and some Superyachts in addition right next to the International Yacht Club.
The BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY of Antibes was built in order to accommodate 19 large pleasure vessels; It has been laid out as follows: 7 Posts of 70m x 16m 4 Posts of 80m x 18m 6 Posts of 90m x 20m 1 Post of 150m x 28m 1 Post of 165m x 40m
Mooring of Megayachts: A new system of mooring boxes is installed; it removes all chains, mooring buoys and brings to the ships security and ease of docking.
Heliport: The helicopter landing area represents a 28m by 29m rectangle. It has a regulatory sign allowing, subject to the authorization of the IYCA, the landing day and night. In addition, the heliport has four parking spaces.

Antibes: a city of arts awarded the France Station Nautique label
Antibes is the second largest city of the department, mid-way between Nice and Cannes. Decidedly turned towards the sea, Antibes has been awarded the France Station Nautique label thanks to its choice of investment and infrastructures distributed over 30 sq km. The famous Cap d’Antibes is a lush mixture of preserved rocky coastline and majestic properties that match the no less gleaming fleet of mega-yachts moored at the billionaires’ wharf.
Just a few steps from the historic city centre, Port Vauban in Antibes Juan les Pins offers its users many services. Inhabited by a cosmopolitan community of English-speaking sailors, this tourist district is also appreciated for its warm and friendly atmosphere, adding a colourful touch of life to its centuries-old stones.
Even though Antibes has enjoyed fine technological, industrial and commercial growth, it is also a City of Arts thanks to the organisation of numerous events, such as the Jazz à Juan Festival, Les Voiles d’Antibes regatta for classic yachts, or the Art Fair antiques fair, in addition to a number of museums, including the Picasso Museum and Fort Carré.
Juan les Pins & Cap d’Antibes – between youth and tradition
Cap d’Antibes is a special place where sumptuous villas are surrounded by lush gardens. This heritage is unique in the world, notably with the famous Villa Eilenroc, the luxury Eden Roc hotel or the Thuret garden that you will discover during a yacht charter at sea, not to mention the unique white sands of the region. In July, fold away your towel and walk to the La Pinède Gould open-air stage for the Jazz à Juan and Riviera Rock festivals that draw several thousands of music lovers every year to listen to major international stars. Since the early days of the festival, which saw the beginnings of Ray Charles and the live recordings of Ella Fitzgerald, the mythical stage of Juan les Pins has welcomed Pink Floyd, Tom Jones, Charlie Winston, Kool and the Gang, Norah Jones, and many more.
For a change of scene, Juan les Pins is also known for its nightlife and young holidaymakers. After a day at sea aboard your chartered yacht , you will find a wealth of establishments of all types so that everyone can enjoy the party until the wee small hours: trendy bars, Michelin-starred restaurants, casinos, nightclubs, etc.
Rent a yacht in the South of France in Antibes

Multilingual and always available, the captains, sailors, hostesses and chefs are rigorously selected to provide impeccable service worthy of the finest hotel establishments. Sail where you please and unwind far from the constraints of your daily life for a relaxing stay aboard your chartered yacht in Antibes .
Even though the billionaires’ wharf hosts almost fifty ultra-modern mega motor yachts year round, the port of Antibes kicks off its yachting season with the marvellous Voiles d’Antibes regatta from the beginning of June. Nearly seventy classic sailing boats between 10 and 50 metres in length meet for the opening of the prestigious regatta circuit of Italian watchmaker ‘Officine Panerai’. An elegant challenge for these venerable varnished sailing boats with wooden blocks and canvas sails during which the sailors use ancestral techniques that combine muscle power and team coordination to reach the highest step of the podium. Your yacht charter in Antibes can thus also include sailing and regattas. Arthaud Yachting’s staff have always been keen racers and are particularly devoted to these vessels of yesteryear that are still very much part of today’s heritage.
Whether you want to charter a motor yacht in Antibes to follow these regattas as a VIP or participate directly on a classic yacht to experience the excitement first hand in the heart of the action during Voiles d’Antibes, our team will select the best boats to make your yacht charter in Antibes an exceptional moment.
So, cast off and charter your yacht in Antibes with Arthaud Yachting!

Amadeus Description
Built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard, and having undergone a total refit in 2018, S/Y Amadeus was designed to please the most demanding of yachtsmen. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design, comfortably reaching top speeds of 12 knots and ensuring excellent sailing performance. S/Y Amadeus has just undergone this past winter (2018) a major refit such as total repaint top to bottom, new rigging (BSI Denmark), Novourania with new Evinrude 75hp outboard, Splash pool, new Bimini/Sprayhood/Awnings, new exterior fabrics and many other enhancements. In 2016 new “North Sails” were placed onboard. The yacht is maintained in excellent condition with a five-star crew year round. Her generous uncluttered teak deck offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables seating upto 12 guests and is a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. Her forward area includes a splash pool and sun bathing area which can also be shaded with a removable awning. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and offers a formal dining area. This area also includes a LCD TV, entertainment center, ipod dock station, playstation, and is ideal for indoor activities. She can accommodate 10-12 guests in one full width master stateroom, two double bedded cabins each having one extra single bed and two twin bedded cabins which can be easily converted to double beds (upon request), thus, making her the only 5 double bedded sailboat in the Greek market. She also has a nice selection of toys which include water ski (adult and children), tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod and snorkeling gear.
