Liaison with vessels & owners as per Management Agreements – g uiding owners & providing support to vessel Captain & Crew as outlined below.

You will be resp onsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operation of the company's fleet of yachts. This individual will work closely with the vessel team, yacht owners, captains, and crew to ensure that all yachts are in good working order and meet the necessary safety and regulatory standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement maintenance and repair schedules for the vessels in the fleet. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all. Collect all necessary equipment lists, manuals and populate vessel PMS as needed.

We're working with a 45m+ new build explorer yacht, due to launch in August this year. They're looking for an experience Chief Engineer to take the yacht through the rest of build, delivery and then sail operationally with the yacht. 

• Y3 ticket or equivalent is a minimum requirement.
• Private AND Charter – the yacht will be dual season, initially cruising Med and Caribbean for the first year, followed by worldwide cruising. 
• This position is full time until after delivery, going rotational following the first 6-7 months. The rotation will be 2:2. 
• Closer to delivery and once operational, you will have assistance from a dual position 2nd engineer / deckhand. 
• Being an explorer operation, there is a lot of water sports involved. If you enjoy water sports / have a skill or qualification in any this is seen as hugely beneficial.

• This is a seasonal position only and will run from now until October, there is potential for it to be full time and the candidate that is just leaving has been there on a permanent basis

• The yacht will be based out of the South of France for the season and will be used as a day boat primarily with some weekend trips

• You must hold CM3000 and have started Master modules with the intention to sit your exam in the coming year to eighteen months. Candidates already holding Master 3000 will have an advantage

• This is a fantastic opportunity to work with an excellent owner and management company running an established yacht with solid cruising plans for the Summer

• They are looking for an experienced Captain that has experience running similar size yachts and holding a minimum of MOY 200t or Yachtmaster offshore

• The ideal candidate will have over 2 years of experience on a vessel over 60m, with their Yachtmaster in hand. You will ideally have several OOW modules in hand, alongside strong tender driving skills in larger tenders. 
• They are looking for a confident individual who is strong on deck and will lead the team from the front. You will have 5 deckhands underneath you and will be responsible for leading the team on projects.

Careers in the superyacht industry

A superyacht is defined as any leisure yacht over 24 metres (79 feet) in length. There are many hundreds of superyachts sailing the seas and oceans today – motor or sail, and they employ thousands of crew members from around the world. 

Owning or chartering a multi-million-pound superyacht is an exclusive hobby, but behind the glamorous, façade, there is a whole team of skilled workers keeping everything ship-shape. The number of superyachts being built is increasing each year, and there is now a shortage of skilled workers to crew them. Working on a superyacht is certainly not a holiday, but the rewards can be generous and it’s a great way to see the world in style.

Training and qualifications

We outline likely requirements in the job descriptions below, or follow the link here to learn about key areas of superyacht training and certification that you can consider.

The Captain of any yacht (large or small) has one primary duty, which is the safe manning and operation of the yacht. This includes taking full responsibility for the crew, the tenders  and toys, and the guests. Every crew member falls under the ultimate command of the Captain.

Chief Engineer

The Chief Engineer is in charge of the engineering department and is responsible for its safe and efficient operation. He or she reports directly to the Captain. As well as managing the Engineers, Electricians and ETOs (Electronic Technical Officers), the Chief Engineer has overall responsibility for the engineering department.

First & Second Officer

All superyachts generally have a First Officer on board, but larger yachts would employ a Second Officer as well. The roles are quite similar, but specific duties are likely to vary from one yacht to another.

Chief Steward/Stewardess

A Chief Steward or Stewardess is most likely an experienced crew member who has progressed to this higher-ranking role. They are in charge of the interior of the yacht and manages and recruits the interior staff (such as Stewards and Housekeepers). They report directly to the Captain.

On a superyacht, regardless of the size, the food is one thing that a charter guest or an owner will always remember. The Chef plays an incredibly important role and is one of the key figures on board.

Engineer/Assistant Engineer

The main function of the Engineer is to maintain the mechanical and electrical operations of the yacht.  This position will entail very large, complicated jobs, and it can, at the same time, incorporate something as small as fixing a remote control for guests, or fixing a toilet.

Technical Officer/Electrician

Electronic Technical Officers (ETOs) and/or Electricians are generally employed on larger superyachts where the Engineering department comprises around four or five crew. In some instances one person may fulfil both roles, or there may be different individuals for each. If there is no ETO or Electrician on board, their responsibilities would fall to the Engineer. ETOs and Electricians usually report to the Chief Engineer.

Steward / Stewardess

The most important aspect of the Steward/ess role is his/her attention to detail.  This type of position requires the ability to think ahead, provide a service before the guest makes the request and to anticipate events before they happen. Most importantly, you must exhibit the ability to discreetly serve guests in a luxury 6-star manner.

Second Chef/Sous Chef

On larger yachts, you will often find a Second Cook/Sous Chef who works along side a Chef.  This person will normally bear all responsibilities in cooking for the crew, side work for meal preparation, and assisting the Chef in any variety of ways.  A new-to-industry individual who aspires to be a professional yacht chef will greatly benefit from holding an assistant position.

The Bosun, sometimes known as the Leading Hand or Senior Deckhand, is likely to be an experienced Deckhand who is able to take on extra responsibilities. The Bosun is responsible for maintaining the exterior of the yacht immaculately and is in charge of the Deckhands.

A deckhand is the entry level for almost all professional crew jobs on superyachts. The deckhand position will encompass many responsibilities, but most importantly, he/she will maintain the exterior of the yacht and keep it in pristine condition at all times. You could be the only deckhand on board, but on larger superyachts there may be as many as five or more deckhands working.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A yacht steward or stewardess daily tasks cover general housekeeping, service duties and serving. This includes doing laundry for the guests and crew, preparing and serving drinks, meal service duties, polishing tableware, interior decorations and maintaining the bar. The exact day-to-day job description of a steward or stewardess varies per yacht, type and size of the yacht, as well as the itinerary and season.

A common working schedule for yacht stewards and stewardesses when guests are not aboard is 8 am to 5 pm, with two days off per week. Hours tend to increase when guests or owners on onboard, as yachts run 24 hours a day. 

YACHT STEWARDESS SALARIES

The average salary on charter and private yachts for steward and stewardess jobs starts at €2,400 a month. More senior roles, such as chief steward and chief stewardess, can earn more than €8,000 a month. When working on charter yachts, stewards can also expect to make solid tips. Still, it is easier for junior or novice stewards to gain valuable experience working on private yachts first, as the work pace tends to be slower.

What does the job entail?

A yacht steward(ess) is in charge of the superyacht’s interior maintenance and gives the finest level of hospitality and service in line with the yacht owners’ and guests’ demands.

This is a professional position that requires skills, intelligence, and tact. It is the ultimate job for someone who loves being in the company of upscale people in an elegant setting.

Yacht steward(ess) are required to be knowledgeable about silver service, food safety qualifications, housekeeping, and laundry, culinary skills can be helpful if required to cook for yacht crew and foreign languages, k nowledge of wines, drinks, and cocktails is also beneficial.

A stewardess should be able to work well with little supervision, even an entry-level position, have the ability to meet deadlines, and work as part of a team. 

Being open-minded is another prerequisite.

In this position, you are required to demonstrate outstanding guest relations skills, strong communication abilities, and a sense of responsibility.

You must also be physically fit and capable of working long hours.

What are the responsibilities?

The chief stewardess is responsible for making the owner and guests happy. 

A day in the life of a yacht stew starts with greeting guests as they board the boat, getting them settled, and attending to their needs throughout their time onboard.

The rest of the time is spent serving great food, stocking supplies, cleaning the boat, and helping out with laundry.

There may be anything from 1 to 5+ yacht steward (ess) on a larger-sized yacht.

The responsibilities and duties will differ depending on the size of the boat and the amount of yacht crew on board.

On a bigger yacht, your first duty as a stewardess will be to learn the fundamentals of being a stewardess.

The biggest issue for yacht crew members is keeping the boat in excellent condition, and it’s a full-time job that requires much hard work. Keeping the yacht clean, detailing it, cleaning the windows, and polishing are all on their to-do list to maintain it in perfect shape at all times.

On a smaller yacht, with a lesser number of interior crew on board, responsibilities will expand to more hands-on tasks such as tender driving and anchoring.

Assisting in the galley or deck operations is also a possibility.

What Skills Does a Yacht Stewardess Need to have?

You don’t need any formal education or experience as a stew, even though a catering college or formal hospitality background can be really helpful.

It’s not a place for people who cannot deal with high-pressure environments or are unwilling to work off the beaten path.

You should be able to work well with little direction, have the ability to meet deadlines, and work as part of a team.

Yacht steward(ess)s are required to demonstrate outstanding guest relations skills, strong communication abilities, and a sense of responsibility.

They must also be physically fit to apply for stewardess jobs.

Anyone who is an excellent multi-tasker, knows how to lead and manage others, has outstanding interpersonal skills, and is accustomed to working in a team is qualified for the job!

It doesn’t stop there though. To excel and go to the next level, it’s a good idea to learn foreign languages like French and Spanish and hone your culinary skills.

What are the working days like?

While guests and/or owners are not aboard, a normal 8-5 workday with weekends off if full-time employment is typical, but hours will be longer and the job will be more difficult if there is a trip or event with guests.

During charter and owner trips, your day will start at least 1h30 before breakfast, and end 1h30 to 2h after diner time, it’s not rare for working days to exceed 15 hours, even though this is way more than the standard MLC requirements.

What are the day-to-day activities?

Activities include meal service duties, cleaning, and housekeeping, as well as the occasional crew cooking and laundry to make sure that everything runs smoothly onboard.

As the stewardess, you will be available to help with any unexpected situations that may arise throughout your workday.

Customer satisfaction and providing exceptional service to clients are two of the most essential aspects of your job.

What type to personality do you need to have?

The most important skills you need are outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities, as well as being able to work in team-oriented environments as well as being able to work independently under pressure. Focusing on guest service is key to succeeding in this position.

To move up the career ladder you need to prove that you can lead a small team, be able to manage guest expectations, and have good organizational skills. With time you can prove yourself to become a Yacht Chief Stewardess or a purser.

You will need to have amazing organizational skills, become a tutor and a coach for the junior crew, and of course display a mature, polished and professional attitude at all times.

Are there any courses I can take to upgrade my knowledge and improve my chances of landing a great job?

There are various courses both online and offline that you can take to upskill yourself.

Some of these include formally taught qualifications such as the PYA guest program. The program is designed to teach you the skills that are needed to become a first-class stewardess.

The GUEST program  is the Luxury Service & Hospitality Education & Assessment.

This crew training Program is a dedicated education program for Interior Superyacht Crew that helps them advance in their profession.

This is the only internationally recognized maritime hospitality and service training accessible to the crew in interior department onboard luxury yachts.

Once you move up the ladder you might also look at Leadership and management courses, or Purser courses.

A high-quality yacht stewardess can have a huge impact on how well your service is perceived.

A good yacht stewardess can be a great competitive advantage for yachts and turn charter guests into loyal repeat customers.

Above all, charter guests appreciate the service and the quality of the interior crew.

They will remember the name of the chief steward or stewardess, they might not remember the itenerary.

Which certificates are mandatory to get a  job on a yacht ?

You will need to make sure you have at least your ENG1, the 5 modules of the basic STCW, and a food safety level 2 certificate.

A plus would be to have the RYA Powerboat Level 2.

What can a yacht stewardess earn?

The salaries for this type of position vary greatly depending on your experience, the size of the yacht, and the country you are working in. For a more accurate idea, you need to speak to a recruitment agency working with these yachts about your specific circumstance.

Typically, a chief stewardess with experience on 50 meters luxury yacht would earn 5500€ to 7000€ per month + tips

For an entry-level position, such as junior yacht steward (ess) salary would start at 2500€.

These are the standard ongoing rate for interior crew.

The salary and the tips also depend on whether either you are working on private yachts or charter luxury yachts.

Looking to fill the below positions for a beautiful,52 m, FF vessel. The Interior position is to start ASAP, preferably onboard in Caribbean by the 22nd of March.

Ivan Besedin, who headed Moscow's subway system until he was fired in the aftermath of a deadly crash last year, will now work at the country's national railroad monopoly, Russian Railways said Wednesday.

Besedin will be in charge of a logistics and transportation department at Russian Railways and is tasked with "improving the economic efficiency of transportation," the statement said.

He had earlier headed the Kaliningrad branch of Russian Railways before heading the Moscow Metropolitan company.

Besedin was reportedly on vacation during the deadliest accident in the subway system's 80-year history, a derailment last year that killed 23 people and injured more than 160 others. He was subsequently dismissed by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

Russian Railways runs the second-largest railway network in the world, transporting almost a billion passengers and 1.2 billion tons of freight across Russia annually, according to its website.

The Moscow subway's current boss, Dmitry Pegov, who replaced Besedin, is a former director of Russian Railways' high-speed service department.
