The Allochroous wins the 9th Millennium Yacht Design Award

The recently-presented 9 th Millennium Yacht Design Award (the MYDA) was granted to the Allochroous , for the Dream Boat category. The competition was attended by a load of designers from all over the world, but only these particular plans prevailed.

The designers of the mind-boggling cruiser are Ezgi Aksan and Ambra Cernetti, new names in the world of yachting. Based on innovative technology and mainly on their sole dreams, the cruiser boasts the unique capability of transforming its functionality. The main point of the project was to “create a sustainable yacht that is ideal for enjoying a summer concert at sea.”

The design of the Allochroous reminds of a stranded fish, while the hull easily descends to the sea level when moving and rise when on the go. The paintjob changes in color, on behalf of the glass tiles installed throughout the vessel and the outer temperature. The primary goal of the yacht is to host events, like multi-media exhibitions, concerts, private parties and other special occasions.

Its 40-meter length (131 feet) is actually a collection of innovation. The lounge area, with chairs and tables, plus the cocktail bar and concert floor is simply the best place you’d want to be.

The lower deck boasts guest services like cooking facilities, backstage/crew services and private bathrooms. The structure resembles a honeycomb, built through the use of recycled aluminum. The solar panels mounted on the roof help generate enough electricity to operate this magnificent cruiser.

As we said, it’s still a project, created to ensure the highest levels of luxury, no matter the location. Be it within the docks or in the middle of the Pacific, this vessel will surely be an eye-catcher, if it ever comes to existence.

Studio Salt & Water: MYDA 2023 Best Design Award

The Salt & Water team’s open catamaran project design won the renowned international yacht design award – Millennium Yacht Design Award 2023 in March this year.

This prestigious award is given every year as part of SEATEC, the only professional event in the Mediterranean dedicated to technology, design and components in the nautical sector.

The “Open Catamaran” project design was the result of collaboration between Salt & Water, design and architecture studio from Novi Sad, and the marine engineering studio Okus Mora. The very concept of a luxury catamaran for day trips to the islands of the Adriatic Sea was created by the Colnago Marine shipyard, which is also in charge of its construction.

It is interesting that in the twenty years since the award was established, Salt & Water is the only studio that has received this award twice. The previous time, in 2015, they won with the project “Floating Hotel with Catamaran Apartments”, in the category of young professionals – yacht designers at the beginning of their careers.

It is important to note that this prize was preceded by an award in December (Cruise Ship Interior Awards 2022 – Best Spa or Fitness Space), which the studio received for the interior design of a river cruise ship. The design was developed in cooperation with the Dutch shipyard Vahali, located in Sremska Mitrovica. It was also the only river cruiser that competed with sea cruisers ten times its size.

Svetlana Mojić Džakula is an architect and the founder of the Salt & Water studio, which specializes in interior and exterior design of yachts, for which it is well-known worldwide. Over the years, the studio has won several prestigious international awards for architecture and design, including the prestigious award for the interior design of the Boeing 787 at the International Yachts & Aviation Awards, and the Millennium Yacht Design Award for the catamaran project as a luxury suite on the water, as well as the MYDA 2023 award for the floating apartment project, confirming the fact that dreams can turn into reality, and that passion, talent and quality are highly valued.

Open 24-meter catamaran

Colnago Marine, a shipyard from Split that has been exporting vessels all over the world for years, has started building a new catamaran designed for day trips. The design of the decks and interior was created by Salt & Water studio from Novi Sad. The idea was to achieve a sense of uninterrupted space. Equipped to entertain up to 120 young people on its open decks, this 24-meter-long boat features an attractive, futuristic design.

Lying, sunbathing or sitting on elements of different height is possible on both decks. They are designed so that everyone can find a small area with ambience for their own experience of the space, regardless of the number of persons relaxing together in their surroundings. Booths for two, which have found their place on the borderline between outdoor and indoor space, are a symbol of the concept of connectivity on board. This means that all elements are connected to each other, and there is no clear line between the horizontal and vertical planes that merge with each other. If necessary, the upper deck can be easily transformed into a space for team building events or celebrations. On the flybridge there is also a kind of VIP lounge – a section with deckchairs and a beautiful view of the sea, while sun sails provide the necessary shade during hot days on the water.

In the central part of the main deck there is a wet bar, designed as a specific central point of the vessel around which life on board takes place. That is why, together with the wall cladding and the staircase railing, it forms a kind of sculpture in the space. The black lines of the boat continue on the bar and railing, descending to the floor. This detail connects the catamaran concept and highlights the link between the exterior and interior, but also horizontal and vertical.

The entire main deck is designed as an attractive, futuristic cafe. There are geometric patterns on the ceiling with LED lighting, suitable for parties. In the bathrooms, too, the effort was made to create a feeling of infinite space, by connecting the mirror to the ceiling. Although they are modern, luxurious and futuristic, functionality is enabled in the form of quick and easy cleaning between tours.

Despite the fact that this catamaran is initially intended for day trips, it is definitely not perceived only as a means of transport. The interior design has surely deepened and refined the on board experience. The vessel project design is signed by Srđan Đaković of the Okus mora company. In addition to interior and deck design, the Salt & Water studio also provides support in organization, production and installation of interiors for vessels.

London, England (CNN) -- At first glance it may look more like a black box than a millionaire's play pen, but "unfold" this superyacht and a world of luxury and opulence is unveiled.

This is the "Origami Yacht," the innovative design concept by Italian designer and Millennium Yacht Design Award winner Fabio Federici.

Taking its cue from the Japanese art form of paper folding, the stylish concept yacht transforms from a lavish play pad to a sleek speed machine thanks to its ingenious multi-functional deck and "folding wings."

Still at the design stage, if built the vessel would cost in excess of $7.6 million.

For designer Federici, the key was to create an unconventional yacht that combined both speed and luxury.

He told CNN: I wanted to create a yacht that had an entirely different image from the other boats and wanted an opposite styling to their soft and flowing lines."

"I was inspired by the rigid shapes of the stealth aircraft. Then I got the idea of the convertible main bridge and then I noticed the similarity with the origami," he continued.

When in "closed" mode, the compact and aerodynamic design allows the vessel to reach optimal speeds. But when anchored, the luxury craft unfolds to create a palatial living space complete with four cabins below and a spiral staircase leading to two shaded hammocks on the roof.

In addition, the deck also features a play pool and three rotating lounge decks allowing for 360 degree sea views whilst working on that killer tan.

The 118 Wallypower superyacht is full of technical solutions and innovations that have contributed to its appeal. The shape of the bow allows for a 50 per cent reduction of the vertical acceleration, and the superstructure design features flat surfaces in order to be transparent. The pure lines are enhanced by the absence of visible cleats, mooring winches, radar antenna, TV dome, anchor system - everything is perfectly and neatly concealed and hidden without sacrificing functionality. An innovative interceptor system controls the boat's trim to improve even further performance and comfort in any sea conditions. The deck is flush and features from bow to stern: the tender garage, the social cockpit, the glass superstructure, and the aft cockpit. Large open areas are designed to comfortably and safely move around the deck when at anchor and fit six passengers and a six member crew.

The 118 WallyPower displaces only 95 tons. This is due to the sophisticated building technology that uses a hybrid structure to save weight without transmitting shockwaves, ensuring the rigidity of the composite hull. The bottom of the hull is built in solid fibreglass. Topsides from the waterline are hybrid fibreglass/carbon composite with balsa core. On deck this becomes a Nomex/full carbon composite. The deck superstructure is made of laminated glass with carbon frames. The interior bulkheads and cabin soles carry no structural loads - they are constructed entirely of thin wood and laminate veneer skins with cores.

The deck, cockpit, navigation, dining and saloon areas have been conceived as one continuous element. Inside, the atmosphere is that of a New York style loft. The open space incorporates three areas, from stern to bow: the saloon, the dining/seating area, and the navigation cockpit. Transparency is a main feature of the yacht interiors and when dining, guests can enjoy the 360-degree view. Underneath the table, the skylight gives light to the lower corridor. The saloon is designed with the same relaxed life of the cockpit; the drop-down bulwarks increase the view from inside. The teak planes are covered with cushions to serve as sofas, while the spaces between the teak planes contain various functions such as additional seating, tables, storage and technology.

The yacht features all the spacious comforts of a mega yacht together with the nautical characteristics of coast-guard boat, including a CODOG (combined diesel or gas) propulsion systemcommon on small warships, but rare on yachts. Three gas turbines generating 16,800 HP drive water jets - two steerable outboard and a non-steering on centreline. For manoeuvring and long deliveries, the steerable water jets are powered by two diesel engines of 370 HP each. The exhaust system is made of titanium that saves weight while being very resistant to the high temperatures generated by the gas turbines.

At speed, the 118 WallyPower is comfortable and stable as a result of the V hull shape combined with the construction technology and the perfect isolation of the machinery, noise and vibration. The hull form is a deep V of 22 degrees at the stern, with a straight stem bow designed to perform as a wave piercing. The unique, chameleon-like paint finish is metallic dark green and changes reflections and colour depending on the light and landscape. At anchor, the sections of the bulwarks alongside the superstructure drop-down hydraulically to increase the light and the view from the salon and when open they serve as diving platforms. Allochroous, time to change

The Millennium Yacht Design Award Yacht (MYDA) is one of the most important awards especially for young designers.

In its history the MYDA, (now in its twelfth edition), brought to the attention numerous projects that have given a new perspective on the world of yachting in general and sailing boats. As the Allochroous Yacht Concept signed by Turkish designer Ezgi Aksan and the Italian Ambra Ceronetti won in 2012 in the “dream boat”. Allochroous Yacht in English means “color changing”, a definition that the two designers have considered perfectly suited to represent their yacht design. Allochroous Yacht can indeed  transform its organization on board as well as in colors to suit different uses. Allochroous Yacht can accommodate concerts, screenings of film premieres, exhibitions, theater performances as well as fashion shows.

Salt & Water Design Floating Hotel with Catamaran-Apartments

A winner of the Millennium Yacht Design Awards, Salt & Water 's concept for a Floating Hotel aims to introduce tourism onto inland waters without disrupting the natural harmony of its surroundings. Their design consists of two parts: a central floating body and separate catamaran apartment units.

The main body of the Floating Hotel contains a reception space, restaurant, event hall, café and offices, with pathways connected to the catamaran apartments. Each catamaran can accommodate up to four guests, and contains a salon, galley, bathroom, a hall with storage space, and a sleeping area. By separating their catamaran from the dock, guests can find and pick their own perfect vacation spot.

Hotel patrons can relax outdoors on the flying bridge or beach platform, from which they can enjoy the water for swimming, diving, fishing, and sun bathing. By slowing navigation of the catamarans to a leisurely pace, guests are encouraged to connect with the water and sky around them with uninterrupted views afforded by the geometry and large windows of the catamarans.

Set to take place in Italy ‘s Carrara from February 5 to 7, 2014, Seatec , the 12th International Exhibition of Technology, Subcontracting and Design for Boats, Mega Yachts and Ships, has launched the 11th edition of MYDA – Millennium Yacht Design Award .

The competition, dedicated to yacht designers and architects, both professionals and beginners, presents three sections: •    A ‘ New Projects ‘: Design as a substantial contribution to development and innovation of a pleasure boat. Reserved to completed but not yet built projects. •    B ‘ Dream Boat ‘:  One-off projects, with total freedom of creation with a personal look in concept and forms. Not an impossible dream, rather a daring feasible vision. •    C ‘ The boat on a human scale ‘: Development of outdoor and indoor lines of a sailing or motor boat within max 10 meters dimensions, where design combines shapes and function ideal for safety innovation, easy-to-use and living on board solutions as well as serial production.

Guidelines for participation The designers or the designing team must directly apply for participation in each section of the award using the participation coupon, which is also available on-line.

Upon receiving the application coupon, CarraraFiere/Seatec will send applicants BY E-MAIL all the necessary forms and instructions for the presentation of the project. Further documentation required includes: – A SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT A two-page form for the project description is provided among the forms. The description must be between 2000 and 3000 typewritten letters, including blank spaces. Entrants are required to provide an adequate description of the project since this is the only place where the project specifications and customer requirements will be featured. – DRAWINGS Entrants shall supply five drawings without any company’s /designer’s name or logo: all plates must only show the identification number that will be assigned by the Organizer at arrival of the projects. The drawings shall include layouts, cross-sections and longitudinal sections, in a suitable scale to illustrate the project. These drawings may be in any scale and in any media, but the scale must be clearly indicated.

All drawings shall be supplied on A4 paper and placed into A4 punched clear pockets (approx. size cm. 22 x cm 30) putting two sheets for each pocket, back to back.

A compulsory requirement for application is a CD-rom or DVD containing high-resolution image documentation (photographs, drawings, renderings) which is necessary to the Show Management to prepare the exhibition of the awarded projects that will be held during the 12th Seatec Show.

ID Form The competition is anonymous. Each project is assigned with a unique ID code. The ID form is therefore the ONLY PLACE where the name/s of the entrant/s may appear.

Prizes Having reviewed the projects, the jury will assign the MYDA Award to the winners for both categories – “Established Professionals” and “Young Professionals” in the three sections “New Projects” , “Dream Boats” and “The boat on a human scale” for a total of six first prizes- as well as special mentions as it sees fit. The jury’s decisions will be final.

Winners’ Presentations Seatec will organize the awarding ceremony during the afternoon of February 5th 2014; the winners who decided to attend the ceremony shall describe their design techniques as well as the features of their work; guidelines will be communicated by the organization. The winners ands those awarded with a “special mention”, if any, will be informed as soon as the jury concludes its works. The M.Y.D.A. Jury Projects will be judged by a panel of experts from the fields of culture and design, a representative from CarraraFiere, yacht design professors and yacht building experts.

All documentation must be completed and returned to CarraraFiere Srl – Seatec by 29th November, 2013.

Comuzzi Yacht Design

Born in Udine and graduated in architecture at the Institute of Architecture of Venice with a thesis in Yacht Design. He collaborates with Garbarino Rusin architects since 2004 and also develops expertise within French and Italian yacht design studios for projects and international design contests. "Oppenheimer" won big at the 2024 Oscars , coming in with 13 nominations and earning awards in major categories such as best director, best actor and best picture .

"Barbie," the other half of the dual box-office Barbenheimer sensation , earned eight nominations, but only got one win Sunday night for best song. 

Other big winners at the 96th Academy Awards were "Poor Things" — which won awards for hair and makeup, production design and costume design — and Cillian Murphy, who won best actor , continuing his winning streak after taking home comparable awards at the 2024 Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Screen Actors Guild Awards for the title role in "Oppenheimer."

Emma Stone, in what some consider an upset win, took home best actress for her role in "Poor Things," beating out Lily Gladstone , who became the first Native American to be nominated for best actress for her role as Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon."

This year's ceremony took place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and featured its share of both hilarious and touching moments . Comedian and late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel returned to host the Oscars for the second year in a row and his fourth time overall.

"Oppenheimer" won the most Oscars at the 96th Academy Awards with seven, including some of the most coveted awards — best picture and best director.
