LADY K Yacht for Sale
Not for sale or charter to U.S. residents while in U.S. waters.
This graceful Bill Tripp design was built by the renowned shipyard Marten Yachts in New Zealand. LADY K is a testament to their mastery in crafting both opulent cruising yachts and high-performance racing vessels, including contenders for the America's Cup. Combining strength with minimal weight, LADY K stands as a light, swift and comfortable sailing yacht.
Her carbon fiber main and mizzen masts, crafted by Martin Marine / Southern Spars were equipped with ECSix standing rigging in 2021, showcasing a substantial improvement, halving the original rigging's weight. The boom furling system ensures efficient sail control and effortless reefing, while the low-aspect ketch rig provides versatility in sail options.
With a minimum draft of 6’8”, the brilliant lifting keel feature allows LADY K into the most appealing and coveted harbors and anchorages worldwide.
Inside, LADY K boasts a raised salon design featuring an abundance of glass that floods the interior with natural light. A forward-facing navigation and helm station provide commanding views, while the raised dinette is perfect for everything from morning coffee to cocktails, lunch, or simply savoring the views. To port, an additional settee invites relaxation. The lower salon and galley, centrally located and illuminated by overhead glass, comfortably accommodates six guests. Entertainment options abound with Apple TV and Bose surround sound. The galley, thoughtfully designed in an L shape, is highly efficient.
LADY K's layout offers four guest cabins and a crew cabin for two, complete with upper and lower berths and a private head. Aft, three guest cabins await. The owner's cabin is full-beam and features a centerline queen berth, a small settee, and separate head and shower compartments. The first guest cabin offers side-by-side twin berths with access to a head and shower compartment. The second guest cabin features upper and lower berths, while the third guest cabin is forward of the galley, boasting a double berth and private head and shower.
LADY K's exterior, designed by Bill Tripp, radiates timeless beauty with classic proportions and graceful sheer lines. Her profile is as elegant as it is functional. Dual staircases provide easy access to the swim step, where garage space is available for water toys. The cockpit, equipped with dual helms and a centerline table, offers excellent protection while ensuring the skipper maintains clear sightlines. LADY K's exterior decks are engineered for practicality and ease of maintenance. With no exterior woodwork, there's no need for varnish or teak decks. The deck coatings remain cool underfoot and ensure safety. Her side decks are wide and uncluttered and the unobtrusive tender storage behind the mizzen allows for quick and effortless launch and retrieval.
In every aspect, from her build to her interior comfort and exterior design, LADY K embodies smooth sailing and functionality, making her the ideal vessel for discerning sailors seeking a memorable yachting experience.

Full Details
LADY K has taken her owners approximately 220,000 miles through every ocean on the planet in comfort and safety, routinely covering 200 miles per day and frequently far more. Her lifting keel allows brilliant upwind performance and, when retracted, allows access to the most desirable harbors and anchorages.
There is no exterior teak. Maintenance has been easy but scrupulous. LADY K shows no evidence of her miles or age. Redundancy is a theme: autopilots, radars, plotters and spares. This is a sailing yacht that is ready to circumnavigate again, needing only provisions.
Designer's notes:
This 77 ft. (23.4m) fully custom yacht is designed for unlimited blue water cruising, with an emphasis on passages and autonomy in remote places such as the Pacific atolls. Lady K is one of numerous “off-road” boats” by Tripp Design and is still in the hands of her original owner.
LADY K is in pristine condition, benefitting from a comprehensive re-fit at Pendennis Shipyard in 2015/16 and a second thorough yard period in 2020.
She is light displacement design with fully cored Aramid/E-glass construction. Kevlar was chosen for maximal impact strength. For ease of maintenance while traversing the globe, Lady K does not have teak decks and any exterior woodwork. She does, however, have an engine room with standing headroom and a workbench as well as a layout that allows access and service to all equipment.
Being purpose built, she has many features to support distance sailing and easy handling by a small crew. The centered cockpit is very well protected, with shelter behind the raised pilot house. She is particularly good for sailing at night or under adverse conditions with all winches, furlers and sail functions controlled from the cockpit. The cockpit is directly accessed from the Pilot House and the boat can be handled from the inside steering station.
The absence of any backstays on the swept spreader ketch rig allows full roach main and mizzen sails. These sails are easy to control, and reef very well with the furling boom systems. As a ketch, all the sailing loads are lower than a sloop and the boat heels less. The boat is very fast with eased sheets, reaching and running with the ability to fly numerous sail combinations safely and easily.
The jet tender lives in a well on the large aft deck for easy deployment and allows the transom garage to be used for storage of all necessary gear and toys. The transom steps allow safe and easy access to the boat by tender, without having to deploy a transom door.
The centerpiece of the design is the upper salon and helm station which are raised above the engine space. Extensive curved (chemically strengthened and laminated) glass provides panoramic views. Below deck, the boat has been thoughtfully laid out for blue water cruising. Aft of the engine space are two guest cabins, a laundry space and a spacious owner’s stateroom. Forward is an open galley and lower salon with abundant seating. Fully forward there is an office desk as well as an additional guest cabin and crew quarters. Here too the boat has been beautifully maintained, and her gleaming woodwork belies her age. Under the care of this experienced owner, Lady K has truly only improved since her launching…

Down Yonder: Without a trace... until now
Forget the Bermuda Triangle. That's Hollywood hype.
We've got a real, live Florida mystery working in the Gulf of Mexico; a mystery that has lasted nearly 30 years and only recently revealed part of its secret.
The drama is filled with vanished yachts, smugglers and a portion of the Gulf coast that is as isolated as the Gulf coast gets.
The intrigue began in 1976 when two yachts disappeared off the Big Bend three months apart.
The Flying Dutchman, a 47-footer owned by an Alabama businessman, disappeared Oct. 26 of that year with the boat owner, another man and two women aboard.
Pirate's Lady, a high-tech 75-footer owned by a New Orleans businessman, disappeared Jan. 27, 1977 with only a captain and first mate aboard.
The U.S. Coast Guard searched and searched and turned up nothing of the two massive yachts vanished off Carabelle.
The names of the yachts were mysterious enough, simply adding to the speculation that pirates and smugglers had something to do with their disappearance. Square-grouper fishing was rampant in those days in those waters from isolated ports like Steinhatchee. And who in the world would name his yacht after the legendary ghost ship damned to sail on forever? Even the heartiest sailor finds that spooky.
Speculation at the time suggested the yachts had been commandeered, passengers and crew murdered and the vessels put to the dangerous task of herbal import.
But no one knew for sure because neither yacht left a trace.
Part of the mystery was solved not long ago when Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FFWCC) officers, acting on an odd tip, actually found the charred hull of Pirate's Lady resting on the bottom in 92 feet of water 45 miles south of Carabelle.
A fireproof safe containing $15,000 in cash said to be aboard the yacht was missing.
In what may be the understatement of the decade, the FFWCC concluded Pirate's Lady was the victim of an 'unfortunate boating accident.'
Law enforcement investigators decided the yacht burned and sunk. Its captain and mate were either burned in the fire or died of hypothermia in the 50-degree water.
A problem in the theory, however, is they also decided the yacht burned for two to three hours in a fire said to be up to 3,000 degrees. Its automatic fire extinguishers apparently were activated and later filled with salt water.
Diesel fuel, which powered the vessel, burns at only 1,100 degrees. Something else had to burn to raise the fire temperature 2,000 more degrees.
Could someone have added gasoline to the burning mixture? Could the yacht have been hit by a missile from a weapon's test? And what about the $15,000 in the missing safe. No one knows -? or, at least, no one is talking.
What is known is that Pirate's Lady put into Apalachicola the day before it vanished, her captain reporting problems with a fuel selector valve. Once repaired, the yacht took on 1,000 more gallons of diesel and headed back out into the Gulf never to be seen again until recently ? burned and resting on the Gulf bottom.
Discovery of the Pirate's Lady hull has once again fueled speculation about the fate of the Flying Dutchman.
The owner of Pirate's Lady later received anonymous death threats as he campaigned for increased government protection against hijacking in the months that followed his yacht's disappearance.
A retired Florida Panhandle police chief who investigated the Flying Dutchman's disappearance has been quoted as saying there's nothing to prove that both yachts weren't commandeered and used for marijuana smuggling before being scuttled.
There's also nothing to prove that four U.S. fighter planes didn't fly off to Mars in the early days of World War II off Florida's East Coast.
Maybe the fate of the Flying Dutchman in this tale is the same as the Flying Dutchman of the old tale.

Yacht LADY K is a Tripp designed Marten Yachts built 23.47m 77 ft ketch with a large mizzen mast, swept spreaders and no running backstays.
Sailing yacht Lady K is a 77 foot ketch which is the culmination of unique vision by her owner, designer and builder. The primary goal with this design is a yacht capable of unlimited-range blue water cruising, with an emphasis on Pacific Ocean transits. However, with a relatively narrow beam, streamlined light hull form and powerful sailing plan the yacht is capable of fast sailing performance.
From Tripp Yacht Design: “The client was very interested in the variety of sail configurations and redundancy provided with the ketch rig. To completely decouple the carbon rigs and allow very large roaches, neither triatic nor backstays are used. Instead highly swept spreaders provide all the support for the rigs. A lifting steel fin with lead ballast package keeps wetted surface and mooring draft low, but stability high.
Sailing yacht Lady K
Yacht LADY K’s deck layout is designed for ease of sail furling and reefing, which led to the inclusion of the leisure furl booms by Marten Spars and roller furling upwind sails on both rigs. Once sails are set, all sailing functions are controlled from the cockpit, with powered self- tailing winches. In light conditions, the Code 0 can be set inside the head stay. For beam to broad reaching, an asymmetric spinnaker can be set from each masthead. With more breeze the 105% jib may be poled out with a telescoping whisker pole.
Yacht LADY K has an ample owner’s stateroom, a laundry space and two guest cabins are arranged aft of the engine space. Forward, a spacious galley and lower salon provides a great space to spend time together. Forward there is an office desk, an additional guest cabin and the crew’s quarters. The center piece of the design is the upper salon and helm station raised above the engine space. This space includes the panoramic curved pilothouse windows. Throughout Lady K are maple veneers, solids, and off-white paint above Sapelle/maple sole panels make up the palette.”
