Ferretti Yachts 1000 Review

  • By Michael Verdon
  • Updated: November 2, 2021

Ferretti Yachts 1000

When Ferretti Yachts introduced its flagship 1000 at the Venice Boat Show in Italy in summer 2021, there were a few audible “aahs” from the docks. First of all, the 1000 was the largest Ferretti Group yacht in Venice. It also is the biggest vessel ever from Ferretti Yachts. Most noteworthy is the interior: 1,800 square feet, which almost makes the 98-foot-10-inch length overall seem secondary. The exterior offers another 1,400 square feet. This boat is big and open, in that order.

Comparing images of the Ferretti Yachts 920 with the 1000 makes it clear that architect Filippo Salvetti succeeded in keeping the family resemblance from model to model. From the bow on, the 1000 appears rounded, which can’t be avoided with such large volumes, but Salvetti also gave the 1000 a racy, almost-thin look in profile. He employed a sharp forefoot, long windows and a thin superstructure, in keeping with the rest of the Ferretti Yachts family DNA.

The team behind the 1000—including Salvetti, other in-house designers and outside firm IdeaeItalia, which drew the interiors—estimates that they spent about 4,000 hours working on the concept and final design over three years. Ferretti designer Céline Julien-Binard says the team measured every area “to the millimeter” to create optimal guest spaces. “Technically, it was also a very complex yacht because of its size,” she adds. “Some of the systems installations were very different than what we’d done on our smaller yachts.”

Ferretti Yachts 1000

Designers on the team constantly use the word “flow” to describe the yacht’s design. This flow starts at the transom, with flanking stairways that lead from the swim platform to the cockpit, along with another set of stairs that proceed up to the flybridge. There are 48-inch-wide passages on both sides of the yacht, allowing for plenty of room to move.

The pilothouse has three exits, creating free movement for crewmembers, who can transit outside via the portside door or on an internal stairway connecting to the main deck and galley. (The captain of Epic, the premiere 1000 at the Venice show, said he was happy with the pilothouse; it has a single chair abaft an uncluttered helm with four consoles and a rear lounge for guests.)

Ferretti Yachts 1000

Flow continues across the main salon, with a rear lounge and a forward dining area. Nonstructural bulkheads and cramped spaces were verboten throughout the yacht, and the cockpit stairs were created to avoid building a stairwell inside the salon.

“The sense of a space to live in prevails,” Salvetti says. “The relationship with the surrounding environment is intensified by the large, full-height windows that accentuate the feeling of contact with the water and let natural light flood in, while the free-standing furniture delivers lightness.”

Ferretti offers the option of fully opening, full-height windows. Those windows, along with glass doors aft and along the two sides, not only drench the area in natural light but also provide access to the cockpit and side passages. With the after doors open, there’s a seamless transition between the inside and outside.

Ferretti Yachts 1000

IdeaeItalia created two interior styles: classic and contemporary. They mostly employ the same materials but with different finishes. On Epic’s classic version, walnut is the interior’s main wood, with subtle striped patterns for the bulkheads and bold flame-colored hues on the dining table and other furniture. The woodwork is simple and elegant, from the walls to the teak decks.

The full-beam master stateroom forward has that same muted look, with side windows offering natural light. On the lower deck, four en suite staterooms sleep eight guests, and there are quarters for four crewmembers. Abaft this space are the engine room and tender garage. Ferretti says the garage’s square footage is 64 percent larger than many competing models.

Ferretti Yachts 1000

The Ferretti Yachts 1000 has two power options: twin MTU 16V 2000 M86s or larger MTU M96Ls. With the M86s, the yacht has a reported top speed of 24 knots and a cruise speed of 20 knots. The M96Ls push the top speed to 28 knots and cruise speed to 24 knots, according to the builder. Those are breakthrough speeds for this new Ferretti Yachts flagship.

Expect to see this type of high-volume design continue at the shipyard. While at the Venice show, Ferretti Group’s chief commercial officer, Stefano de Vivo, called the 1000 a “crucial” design that “will be a template for other models going forward.”

Boat of the Week: Why Ferretti’s New 100-Foot Wide-Body Flagship Could Disrupt Its Entire Class

The new Ferretti Yachts 1000 is the largest model the Italian brand has built with a huge interior, big social areas and fast hull

There are defining moments in every brand, and for the Ferretti Group , that came last week with the launch of the Ferretti Yachts 1000. The Italian builder’s new flagship is not only the largest model that brand has ever built, but its design is part of a new revolution taking place in the 90- to 110-foot motoryacht segment.

Its main competitors, Azimut and Princess, have recently launched models in the same range, and both share the Ferretti’s “wide-body” approach, which essentially means packing a third more interior volume into the same length of hull. The Azimut Trideck and Princess X95 are both successful designs, though the profiles are more radical-looking than the Ferretti 1000, which has a more traditional look.

Stefano de Vivo, Ferretti Group’s chief commercial officer told Robb Report during a tour of the 1000 that it was a “crucial” new design. “It will be a template for other models going forward,” he said.  “At the same time, the 1000 is not an urban apartment on the water. It’s modern and minimalist, but definitely marine.”

The design team, including Ferretti’s Filippo Salvetti, who penned the exterior and IdeaeItalia, which created the interior, focused on presenting the brand’s yachting heritage. “We may have gone a little far with earlier models,” says De Vivo, referring to the residential look of other yachts in the line.

While larger interior volumes are in high demand with new boaters, there are challenges. The first is keeping the profile from looking bloated. Salvetti did a good job with that by creating a top deck that looks slender, along with a larger hull body defined by racy, angular dark windows that give the impression of performance.

The second challenge is actually divvying up the unusually large interior volume so it’s proportional to its actual function within the yacht. That extra-large salon might seem like a big benefit, but if it seems like a vast empty space that sacrifices galley size, for instance, then the boat doesn’t function properly.

That extra-large salon might seem like a big benefit, but if it seems like a vast empty space that sacrifices galley size, for instance, then the boat doesn’t function properly. I didn’t see any evidence of that on the 1000 which has, what the company calls its “new flow concept,” so that individual rooms feel large and spacious and there is a natural movement through the boat uninhibited by unnecessary bulkheads or cramped rooms. The main salon is big, but the design team used floor-to-ceiling windows on the sides and rear, furnishing it elegantly but sparingly. Walnut’s the prevailing wood across the interior, with the designers using subtle, striped patterns for the walls and bold, flame-colored hues for dining table and other furniture. Accents have a special ribbed pattern. There’s a traditional, almost classic coordination of the colors and materials, as opposed to the 1000’s competitors, a bit louder and more experimental in design. “Owners can customize the interiors if they want another look,” Celine Binard, part of the Ferretti design team, said during a tour. The 1000 took three years from the initial drawings to the first hull, tkkkk, which was going to a French owner, who made minimal changes to the classic styling. What struck me most about the 1000 was the level of detail that went into making it work in a simple, straightforward way. Looking through the full-height windows in the main salon, the designers had cut away a portion of the side passage so that instead of seeing the outer wall, it was a clear view of the water. That involved some serious structural engineering to enhance the owner’s view. It also had features like a Garvan audio system, which include hidden speakers embedded into the ceiling for a clearer, more uniform sound, while preserving the minimalist impression of the interior. That was apparent all over the boat, from the 110-square foot galley, which is much larger than on most boats this size, to the spacious main suite forward, with a full-beam ensuite, picture windows on either side of the bed and chair and table that could serve as an office. The cockpit behind the main suite was also conceived to be a comfortable space that is protective but offers clear views of the water. Ditto the lounges, table and sunbeds on the foredeck, which turn what is typically the working end of the yacht into a private social area. My favorite space was the upper deck, with carbon-fiber hardtop with slats forward that offers both sun protection and more sunlight, depending on owner preference; then there’s an al-fresco dining table on port and a large wetbar/outdoor kitchen to the right. At the rear are lounges for socializing. The 600-sq. ft. space is often a nook on similari-sized yachts, but Ferretti (and its competitors) realize how many people prefer comfortable outdoor living, so have made it a main feature. Binard says everything on the 1000 was “measured in millimeters,” which explains why deck sizes and the features within feel big but livable. “Structurally, it was a challenging design because of its size,” she adds. “The engineering was very different than our smaller yachts.” Tkkk has four guest staterooms on the lower deck, and a large beach area at the transom. The beach, combined with the terrace just above, measures a whopping 440 square feet—equivalent to a much larger yacht. What’s also unusual about the 1000 is its 28-knot top speed, thanks to twin 2217-hp MTU diesels. That’s lightning fast for a boat its size. The Ferretti folks declined to say what size model would be coming next, but it’s definitely going to have the look, feel and space of the 1000. Check out more images of the new flagship.

There are defining moments in every brand, and for the Ferretti Group, that came last week with the launch of the Ferretti Yachts 1000. The Italian builder’s new flagship is not only the largest boat it has ever built, but its design is part of a new revolution taking place in the 90- to 110-foot motoryacht segment. Its main competitors, Azimut and Princess, have recently launched models in the range, and both share the Ferretti’s “wide-body” approach, which essentially means packing a third more interior volume into the same length of hull. It’s modern and minimalist, but definitely marine.” The design team, including Ferretti’s Filippo Salvetti, who penned the exterior and IdeaeItalia, which created the interior, focused on presenting the brand’s yachting heritage. The second is actually divvying up the unusually large interior volume so it’s proportional to its actual function within the yacht. The FERRETTI CUSTOM LINE 100’ is the latest project presented by Ferretti Group, known for their production of fibreglass yachts measuring from 26 to 37 metres. The new project features brand new characteristics, continuing the extension of the range of yachts on offer by Ferretti. FERRETTI CUSTOM LINE 100’ was developed through the close working relationship between Studio Zuccon International Project, the AYT Advanced Yacht Technology, the Ferretti Group’s naval research and design centre, and the team of architects and designers at the Centro Stile Ferretti Group. the Ferretti Custom Line 100’ Yacht project presents innovative features and extends the brand’s planing line, flanking those of the 124’, 112’ NEXT and 97’.

Ferretti Custom Line 100 Yacht

“The project for the 100’, which we will see in the water in spring 2011, was developed to satisfy the demands of those of our Owners, including younger Owners, seeking a more sporty design without, however, foregoing the functional features and more spacious areas of a wide bodied yacht,” commented Marco Segato, Ferretti Custom Line Brand Manager.

“The racy lines, reinterpreted according to Ferretti Custom Line style, give this yacht such a strong character that we’ve decided to keep Ferretti Custom Line 97’ in the range too, for those of our Clients looking for a more classical yacht, despite the fact the two models are quite similar in length.”

Externally, the precise lines of Ferretti Custom Line 100’ yachts give the profile an extraordinarily sporty appearance, impressing any onlooker immediately. The overall impression is that of a lightweight model thanks to the presence of continuous glazing which extends from the stern of the main deck around to the raised helm station. On the Owner’s request, a glass door can be fitted in the right hand broadside of the salon, which opens out onto a foldaway terrace for direct contact with sea. On the lower deck, besides the two large open view windows, a window has been built into the saxboard towards the bow, at the height of the master cabin.

Light dominates the extraordinarily spacious interiors. The salon has been split into living and dining areas, and decked out with free standing furniture which can be chosen from a large selection of proposals and personalised solutions, as is the Ferretti Custom Line tradition. Painstaking attention has been paid to each and every detail of the Ferretti Yacht ‘s interior décor, characterised by a contemporary style which harmoniously matches a range of different materials.

One particular new feature, unique to yachts of this segment, has been developed with the aim of improving the living conditions inside the yacht through the introduction of the wide body type near the bow area where the master cabin is located. This feature has led to a significant increase in on-board space and to creating new external routes typical of larger yachts.

The areas below deck have also been wisely organised in the four guest cabins, all with en-suite heads and large open view windows over the sea. There is plenty of room for outdoor living, too, with a flybridge equipped with large sunpads and an external lounge at bow on the main deck.

Ferretti Custom Line 100’ yacht is fitted with twin MTU 2639mhp engines which drive the vessel to a top speed of 26 knots.

FERRETTI YACHTS 1000: THE LARGEST YACHT FLYBRIDGE IN THE RANGE

Ferretti Yachts 1000 - Abys Yachting - Ferretti Group - 2023

Ferretti Yachts 1000 by abys yachting

Designed with the future in mind, the Ferretti Yachts 1000 is the flagship of the Italian shipyard Ferretti Yachts, the largest ever built.

The Ferretti Yacht 1000 is the result of the collaboration between the Product Strategy Committee and the Engineering Department of the Ferretti Group , headed by engineer Piero Ferrarri. The architecture of this splendid luxury flybridge yacht has benefited from the talents of the same winning team: Filippo Salvetti for the exterior design and Ideaeitalia for the interior. The Ferretti Yachts 1000 represents 100% "Made In Italy" art at its highest level.

The design is highly innovative, with clean lines and graceful shapes . Everything has been designed to focus on the essentials: feeling at home, wherever you are.

FERRETTI YACHTS 1000: AN UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS

The Ferretti Yachts 1000 perfectly reflects the spirit of the Italian brand: elegance, functionality and simplicity. It is the quintessence of well-being and style. With its two MTU 16V 2000 M86 engines, it can reach a top speed of up to 28 knots (and 24 knots at cruising speed). Officially revealed to the general public at its World Premiere at the Venice Boat Show in June 2021, the capital of love, it has made a lasting impression with its seductive and refined lines.

With a length of over 30 metres and a height of 6.81 metres, it is the largest and most impressive flybridge yacht in the Ferretti Yachts fleet. The concept has been thought through to the last detail, both in terms of design and fittings. For the Ferretti Group, it is the flair, vision and passion of the skilled and talented people who make up their teams. Their "winning factors" ...

Extraordinary investments were made in the design of this majestic yacht, to follow a very precise specification. More than 4,250 hours of naval design and 9,650 hours of work on the moulds were invested. Barely unveiled, 3 hulls had already been sold. Moreover, the first hull launched from the shipyard in Cattolica , had seduced its first owner... French! A success, which is still very much in vogue today concerning yachts to be acquired...

THE LARGEST FLYBRIDGE YACHT EVER BUILT BY THE FERRETTI YACHTS FLEET

AN EXTERIOR DESIGN WITH WIDE, CONTINUOUS SPACES

In terms of exterior design, this wide-hulled flybridge model has rather sporty curves. Large windows, placed laterally in the middle of the structure, extend to the stern. This is thanks to a steel skeleton in the superstructu re , allowing for larger windows without sacrificing rigidity. The rest of the car is made entirely of carbon fibre , including the hardtop.

The flybridge is a key feature of this model. It is very spacious and connects directly to the foredeck via the gangways. There is a large terrace offering 40 m² of living space (usually seen on super yachts). Sun loungers are placed just under the wheelhouse windows, complemented by a dining area in the extension. At the rear of the flybridge is a cosy lounge area, where guests can enjoy a large table and bar. The roof remains open to adapt to all weather conditions.

The second most revolutionary point is that the rear bathing platform has a multi-level beach club . Practical so that everyone can refresh themselves right at the water's edge... Other sun loungers are arranged across the entire width of the boat and offer a trendy decor. The garage can accommodate a Williams Sportjet 445 tender , a personal watercraft and two Seabobs . A perfect environment to enjoy all the water activities in a group.

A VERY SPACIOUS FLYBRIDGE, OFFERING 40M² OF LIVING SPACE WITH SUN LOUNGERS AND DINING AREA.

INNOVATIVE, ELEGANT AND MODERN INTERIOR DESIGN

The interior is very elegant and moder n . Bathed in natural light thanks to the large bay windows , the various fittings are enhanced by the use of noble materials: wood, marble and glass . Everything is modular and the furniture is also self-supporting. In the large saloon for example, the large windows open on both sides, allowing you to enjoy the port and starboard balconies. The coverings are made of soft, warm and comfortable fabrics .

As with all Ferretti Yachts models, there are two different moods to choose from. One is classic , with soft, traditional tones, while the other is contemporary , with more daring colours and urban influences. However, the Italian style remains prevalent in the equipments to maintain the brand's successful DNA.

Up to 10 people can be accommodated on board. The owner's suite is located directly on the main deck. Then 4 guest suites are located on the lower deck. The crew quarters can accommodate 5 people, and include a dedicated captain's cabin. The latter have the advantage of being located in the immediate proximity of the kitchen. Fully equipped, the kitchen has a total surface area of 10 m².

The Ferretti Yachts 1000 is a timeless jewel. With its wide and continuous spaces, it gives a feeling of grandeur to become one with the sea. Perfect for travelling to dream destinations, while feeling right at home!
