How to Set and Use the Rolex Yacht-Master II

Rolex Yacht-Master II ref 116681

Regatta races are an exciting way to test your sailing ability. The Rolex Yacht-Master II has a countdown timer so you can time your regatta race.

Not only does it look fantastic, but its highly specialized functions are powered by one of the most impressive movements Rolex has released to date. Using these functions though can be a frustrating and complicated path.

While there are number of steps to the process, Rolex designed it to be quick and simple once you get to know it.

With this guide, you’ll learn how to set the Rolex Yacht-Master II for a regatta, as well as how to use it during the race.

What is a regatta watch?

First of all, what is a regatta watch? The Rolex Yacht-Master II’s countdown timer is used to time events that involve boats or other competitive pursuits, such as sailing races, chariot races, and even football matches.

The goal of these events is to get from point A to point B in the fastest amount of time possible. To do this, teams will use the count-down timer on their watches to measure their progress and determine whether they should increase their speed or slow down if they are falling behind.

You’re probably wondering why you would need a watch with such an advanced feature if you aren’t partaking in regatta activities yourself. Well, there are plenty of instances where having the ability to time something accurately can be useful. Even everyday tasks like boiling your eggs perfectly or recording the length of timeouts count! The possibilities are endless.

How to Set your Countdown Timer on a Rolex Yacht-Master II

The countdown timer on the Rolex Yacht-Master II is an elegant and useful feature. You’ll need to set it up though before the beginning of the regatta to start the countdown at the appropriate time.

To set the countdown timer:

1. The timer needs to have stopped. If it is still going, push the upper pusher on the right hand side of the dial/case to stop the timer.

2. Once the timer is stopped, you need to turn the bezel to the left, or counterclockwise, a quarter turn. It will stop at a quarter as that’s as far as it can go, and it will click into place for you.

3. Push the bottom pusher on the right hand side of your case. When you push this button, it will stay pushed down. This bounces the second hand to zero or the 12 o’clock mark. The minute hand will also return itself back to wherever you previously had it set. Having the lower pusher depressed blocks you from pressing the upper pusher.

4. Unlock the crown by turning it counterclockwise. The crown is the center knob at the 3 o’clock position on the right hand side of your case. Turn the crown clockwise setting it to the minute that you need.

5. Once you’ve set the duration of your preferred countdown, you’re going to return to the bezel. Turn the bezel this time in a clockwise direction until the click, or a quarter turn. This action unlocks the upper pusher and lets go of the lower one.

6. Push your crown back in and rotate it clockwise until it locks. This ensures that your watch keeps its water resistance.

How to Use the Countdown Timer on your Rolex Yacht-Master II

The countdown timer on the Yacht-Master II is used to display how much time has passed in a race (or other endeavors). Many people use this feature when they’re tracking their own races, but it’s also useful for non-sporting activities.

Here’s how to use it:

1. Your top or upper pusher starts and stops your countdown. This is similar to other traditional Rolex complications like what you’d find on the Daytona . The lower pusher resets the timer.

2. The difference with the Yacht-Master from other chronograph watches is that you can jump forward or backward to the closest minute with a one touch to the lower button. There’s no need to reset the counter, wasting valuable time in a race.

3. To use the fly-back or fly-forward functions mentioned above, while the timer is running, give one quick press to the lower pusher. The timer resets itself to the closest minute while still running. This allows you to instantly start measuring the next duration, with no time lost.

Timing a Regatta Race using the Rolex Yacht-Master II

Ok, so your timer is set, and you know how to run it, but what are you supposed to do with it during a regatta race?

Regatta Racing (photo: Rolex)

1. If you’re unfamiliar with why you need a timer in a regatta, this isn’t unusual. A gun and a wave of a flag signal the countdown to the start of the race. When you see or hear this, then press the top pusher that starts the timer. If you did your job, your timer was set at the needed number of minutes ahead of time. At this point, the second hand is tracking the elapsed time since you started. The minutes hand will move every 60 seconds tracking the time until it hits the finish or zero. End of a countdown.

2. There may be a point where you’ll have to pause and resync your timer. You’ll want it to maintain sync with the official clock. Being on-time is important in a regatta. This is easy to accomplish. When you hear the second or third prep signals, the official ones, press the lower pusher. This resets the second hand back to the beginning, or zero, synchronizing the minute hand back to the closest minute, thus syncing with the official clock.

3. At this point, the race has begun. Your personal countdown has finished and you’re off. Now you can restart your timer by pressing the top pusher to stop it and then the bottom pusher to reset it to the last programmed setting.

How to Use Your Rolex Yacht-Master II: Final Thoughts

Now you know how to use your Rolex Yacht-Master II in a regatta race. It’s a great watch that will make timing your races much easier and more accurate. Better yet, use your timer for anything you need a countdown for.

Yacht-Master

A valuable tool watch

A technical and elegant watch, the Yacht-Master is a reliable nautical instrument on the wrist.

Its graduated bidirectional bezel allows for precise measurement and reading of time intervals when navigating. This tool watch benefits from innovations that improve its legibility and wearers’ comfort in all circumstances.

Graduated bidirectional bezel Precision and legibility on the wrist

The bidirectional bezel with raised 60-minute graduations is a key feature of the Yacht-Master. Entirely crafted in precious metal – 18 kt ct Everose gold or 950 platinum – or fitted with a black Cerachrom bezel insert in high-technology ceramic, it is an essential part of the watch’s identity.

With its polished markers and numerals, which stand out clearly from the matt surface, the bezel guarantees optimal reading of time intervals, for example, the sailing time between two buoys. Furthermore, the detailed graduation of the first 15 minutes offers extra precision when reading navigational time.

The bidirectional rotating mechanism relies on a ring bearing 120 notches for precise and fluid adjustment to the nearest half-minute. Lastly, the bezel has a knurled edge, making it easy to manipulate in all conditions.

Gold, Rolesor and Rolesium Precious alloys and exclusive combinations

Rolex gold is an intrinsic part of the Yacht-Master’s identity: 18 kt ct yellow, white or Everose gold are comprised of 750‰ pure gold and blends of silver, copper and palladium. They are all entirely created and cast in our own foundry.

The Yacht-Master in 18 kt ct Everose gold is available in two diameters: 37 mm and 40 mm. Each of these versions is also available with a diamond-paved dial. The 18 kt ct yellow gold and 18 kt ct white gold versions are reserved for the Yacht-Master 42.

Rolex gold is also combined with Oystersteel – a particularly corrosion-resistant alloy – for the Everose Rolesor versions of the Yacht-Master 37 and Yacht-Master 40. They combine a bezel and centre links in Everose gold with a middle case, winding crown, case back and outer links in Oystersteel.

The Yacht-Master 37 and the Yacht-Master 40 are also available in Rolesium versions, an alliance of platinum and steel. They combine a platinum bezel with a middle case, winding crown, case back and bracelet in Oystersteel.

RLX titanium Robustness and lightness

RLX titanium made its first appearance in the Yacht-Master range in 2023. The grade 5 titanium alloy selected by Rolex is a particularly lightweight metal and is noted for its mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. Its use for the Yacht-Master 42’s case and bracelet has reduced the weight of the watch by around a third compared to a similar watch in steel. RLX titanium is complex to work with and has required the introduction of special production processes.

The combination of polished, high-sheen and technical satin finishes illustrates our excellence in machining and finishing techniques. Together, they produce a subtle blend of textures and light, setting off the gleaming polished surface of the crown guard and the lustrous high-sheen on the top edges of the lugs against the matt of the technical satin finishing – with its pronounced grain – visible on the rest of the case and bracelet.

Bracelets, clasps and extension systems Comfort and security on the wrist

Chromalight display and cyclops lens for optimal legibility.

Equipped with the Chromalight display and the Cyclops lens, the Yacht-Master combines two exclusive Rolex features that improve legibility.

The Chromalight display provides optimum legibility, whatever the light conditions. The luminescent material is applied by experts to the hands and the large hour markers which have simple shapes (triangle, circle and rectangle) that are characteristic of Rolex professional watches. Brilliant white in daylight, this material emits an intense blue glow in the dark.

Introduced in 2008, the Chromalight display was optimized in 2021 to maintain the intensity of the blue glow for longer. The performance of this luminescent substance clearly exceeds the standards required by watchmaking norms.

Designed to improve the readability of the date thanks to its magnifying effect, the Cyclops lens is both an aesthetic and technical signature of the brand. This Rolex invention was patented in the early 1950s. Like the crystal of the watch, it is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire and benefits from a double anti-reflective coating.

How to Read a Yacht-Master II

How to read a rolex yacht-master ii, regatta chronograph.

When looking at the face of a Yacht-Master II the first thing everyone notices is the regatta chronograph and the red-contoured countdown arrow in the center.  A regatta is a boat race that often begins with a 10 Minute countdown.

The wearer can either set this movement or reset depending on the race’s official starting procedure. Putting this countdown on the face of the watch is one of the major changes from the original Yacht-Master and the Yacht-Master II. On the original Yacht-Master, the countdown is on the top right of the bezel between 12 o’clock and 3 o’clock.

The numbers on the bezel mirror those numbers on the regatta chronograph. The bezel also works in conjunction with the regatta chronograph, allowing the wearer to set and synchronize the sequence of race start times.

Minute Countdown

The final number wheel on the Yacht-Master is a minute countdown. This smaller wheel will track the seconds in a minute, which is a very common need when sailing.

How to Use a Yacht-Master II

How to Use a Yacht-Master II

One of the more intricate Rolex models is the Yacht-Master II. We’ve been taking a closer look at how to set your Rolex as well as read the details on your dials to better understand your Rolex watch. Whether you want to understand the material it is made of or the story it has to tell, check out our more recent blog article releases here . But anyways, back to the Yacht-Master II. Let’s take a look.

The first thing to know is that you still set the time using the second position as we discuss here . The seconds hand is the small dial right above the 6 o'clock marker (with the 20, 30, 40 etc). In the below image, it's blue. But, that can change dependent on the material you choose for your Yacht-Master II.  But, we're going to take a closer look at the intricate dial of the Yacht-Master II and its uses.

how to use a yacht-master Ii

If this is the first time you have taken a closer look at the Yacht-Master II, you may be a bit overwhelmed. The Yacht-Master II is the first model to offer a Regatta Chronograph, which is a timing feature for Regatta timing or a Regatta sailing event which includes a 10-minute countdown. The Yacht-Master II allows different countdown timers for 0 - 10 minutes, which can be used anytime in normal life if you need to time something for 10 minutes.

To use the programmable Regatta countdown, rotate the bezel to position two until it clicks at about 1 o’clock. After, push down the bottom pusher to set the bezel. At this point, you will unscrew the water-tight crown and start rotating it clockwise. It will jump to every minute. Let’s say we are going to set it at 8 minutes. Screw down the water-tight crown, and then, rotate the bezel back to its original position, which will cause the bottom pusher to pop back up into place.

how to use a yacht master ii

Press the top pusher to begin the timer. As the seconds hand moves clockwise, you will see the red arrow move to the next number (7 minutes in our example). To stop the timer, simply press the top pusher again. If you want to reset your timer to what you previously set it at (8 minutes), simply press the bottom pusher. Because the Regatta chronograph has a mechanical memory, by resetting the time with the bottom pusher, the triangle hand will return to the last minute it was initially set at before the countdown begins. This Rolex watch is the first watch to offer a bezel that is directly built into the movement - an innovation in Rolex design.

So, that’s a quick guide through a Yacht-Master II dial reading and use of the Regatta Chronograph. The Yacht-Master II bezel can have endless applications in everyday life as well - you don’t have to just be a sailor. Intricate in design but simple to use, is just what makes this such a work of art and perfection.

yacht master 2 how to use

Helldivers 2: Hardest Energy Weapons To Master, Ranked

Energy weapons are a type of weaponry in Helldivers 2. Some are easier to master than others, given the range of differences between them.

Helldivers 2 players gain access to new weaponry with the release of each new Warbond . While energy weapons have been around since the game's launch, many new ones were introduced later on. There are now multiple primary, secondary, and support energy weapons.

Helldivers 2: Weapon Tier List

Many, but not all, of the energy weapons in the game are lasers and don't require ammo to function. Others, like the PLAS-1 Scorcher, use a great deal of ammo quickly. Using energy weapons is easy, but mastering them can take some time and effort.

8 LAS-7 Dagger

Decent in a pinch.

  • 200 damage/second
  • Unlock for 60 Medals on Page 3 of Cutting Edge Warbond

The LAS-7 Dagger is a secondary weapon that fires a single laser beam at its targets. It is very similar to the LAS-5 Scythe but as a pistol instead of a rifle. The best part about this gun is that it essentially has unlimited ammo. This makes it a reliable sidearm to use in a pinch when all the ammo has been used up for primary and support weapons.

The downside is that it takes longer to kill an enemy than most players would like. If players are out of ammo and surrounded by enemies, the LAS-7 Dagger may or may not help them get out of the situation alive due to its low damage output. Mastering this sidearm is as much a question of knowing how to stay alive while outnumbered as it is using the gun itself.

7 LAS-5 Scythe

Primary weapon that fires a continuous laser beam.

  • 300 damage/second
  • Unlock for 30 Medals on Page 5

Like other laser weapons, the LAS-5 Scythe fires a concentrated laser beam instead of projectiles. The weapon only needs to be reloaded if the beam is fired for too long and overheats. Otherwise, its capacity to fire is effectively limitless. The beam also does not ricochet off of armored targets, which reduces the risk of friendly fire compared to other weapons.

The laser also packs a heavy punch, dealing 300 damage per second in addition to having so much firing capacity. The LAS-5 Scythe is one of the best primary weapons in the game, especially for players who want to specialize in energy weapons. Mastering it is not particularly difficult, although players will need to develop an understanding of just how long they can fire its beam without overheating to truly wield this gun at its maximum potential.

6 LAS-98 Laser Cannon

Support weapon that fires a large laser beam.

  • 400 damage/second
  • Unlock for 4000 Requisition Slips at Level 5

The LAS-98 Laser Cannon is a weapon that made its first appearance in the original Helldivers . It returns in Helldivers 2 as a shoulder-mounted cannon that fires a huge continual laser beam at targets. It pierces through light and medium armor, which makes it a good Support Weapon when fighting against enemies like Hiveguards and Chargers.

Like other laser weapons, the laser cannon only needs to be reloaded if it overheats due to being fired for too long. Not having to keep track of ammo is a compelling reason to give this Support Weapon a shot. Players should make sure to offset the laser cannon's recoil and never let it overheat in order to master it.

5 LAS-16 Sickle

Automatic rifle with the traits of an energy weapon.

  • Unlock for 20 Medals on Page 1 of Cutting Edge

The LAS-16 Sickle is an energy weapon that shoots like an assault rifle. It is similar to the Liberator except that it has the ammo traits of an energy weapon and the added bonus of having no recoil.

Players who test out the Sickle for the first time will need to adjust to the time it takes to start firing because the gun has to wind up for a few seconds first. This and its relatively poor accuracy are the weapon's biggest downsides. However, for players who want a fully automatic rifle that has several advantages over more traditional guns, this gun is a great choice.

4 LAS-99 Quasar Cannon

Take out the biggest threats in the game with this cannon.

  • Deals enough damage to kill a Charger
  • Unlock for 7500 Requisition Slips at Level 18

The LAS-99 Quasar Cannon is a Support Weapon Stratagem that many players have come to love. If aimed at weak spots, it can kill a Charger or a Bot Dropship in a single hit. It also only takes two or three shots to kill a Bile Titan. In addition to these impressive feats, the Quasar Cannon can also be used to close Bug Holes and destroy Fabricators by hitting their vents head-on.

Helldivers 2: How to Get & Use the Quasar Cannon

The Quasar Cannon takes a few seconds to charge up before it can be fired and also needs time to cool off before players can fire it again. It also does not have a large explosion radius, so players need to make every shot with it count. Players master this Support Weapon by having high accuracy and the patience to deal with the significant time between shots.

3 Punisher Plasma

More grenade launcher than shotgun.

  • 100 damage with area-of-effect
  • Unlock for 60 Medals on Page 2 of Cutting Edge Warbond

The Punisher Plasma is officially a shotgun, but it fires more like a grenade launcher. It lobs an orb of energy that deals damage in a small radius around where it lands. By effectively taking on crowds, the Punisher Plasma fills the role that many Support Weapons do. This means that using the Punisher Plasma effectively frees up a loadout slot so that players can focus on bringing Strategems that target specific enemies instead.

Helldivers 2: 9 Best Items From The Cutting Edge Warbond

With the area-of-effect damage, players can easily accidentally hurt or kill themselves if they fire it in close-quarters situations. Players that want to master this gun need to learn the minimum distance that they can fire without hurting themselves in addition to learning how to adjust aim to compensate for how gravity pulls the energy blast downward over distances.

2 PLAS-1 Scorcher

Effective weapon that uses ammo quickly.

  • Unlock for 75 Medals on Page 10

Found on the very last page of the original Warbond, the PLAS-1 Scorcher is a weapon worth the time and effort it takes to unlock it. Unlike laser weapons, this gun fires projectiles at its target and therefore needs standard ammo to keep firing. Players using the Scorcher need to keep a careful eye on their ammo capacity because it does run out very quickly.

Its projectiles do damage in a very small radius around where they impact, which is great for clearing out swarms of enemies. However, this makes it very easy for players to hurt themselves or allies because the impact's range is not always clear at first. Players need to master this along with finding ways to balance out the gun's ammo problems.

1 ARC-12 Blitzer

Shoots tendrils of electricity.

  • Unlock for 80 Medals on Page 3 of Cutting Edge Warbond

The ARC-12 Blitzer is a shotgun that uses electricity to kill its targets. When fired, it launches multiple arcs of electricity and can deal 250 damage if they each connect to the same target. Players have had mixed success, however, and have found that the damage output is unfortunately inconsistent.

Players that use any of the armor from the Cutting Edge Warbond have the added bonus of not taking much friendly fire from this weapon since it fires electricity. This, along with its effectively infinite ammo capacity, makes the ARC-12 Blitzer a good contender for players looking for new primary weapons to test out. With practice, players can take the Blitzer's inconsistent damage and learn to hit consistently for its maximum damage.

Master Ball sitting in a lab

Years after the game first arrived, a Master Ball can be obtained in Pokémon Go .

The Master Ball is perhaps the most iconic Pokémon-catching device of all time. First appearing way back in Pokémon Red and Blue of the main series, the Master Ball has a very special trait — a 100% catch rate on any Pokémon you use it on.

Long-time players of Pokémon Go will be very familiar with that sinking feeling of finishing a raid and failing to catch the subsequent encounter, and with the Master Ball, this is one way to ensure the Pokémon will definitely be yours.

However, know that Master Balls are very rare, and should be used sparingly. With that in mind — how do you get a Master Ball in Pokémon Go , and when should you use one?

How to get a Master Ball in Pokémon Go

New Master Balls are added to Pokémon Go as part of seasonal or timed research quests.

The next opportunity will be with the Masterwork Research: Catching Wonders research quest , which debuts on Tuesday, May 14, part of Season 14: World of Wonders.

Not only will this be free for all players, but it’ll be classed as a special research quest — meaning once you have started the quest, there is no time limit for completing each step.

This is not the first time a Master Ball has been added to the game. Previous releases include:

  • Let’s Go Special Research as part of Season 10: Rising Heroes , after completing the fifth step. This is when the Master Ball first debuted, and if you logged into the game before the season ended on June 1, 2023, the opportunity to complete the quest and earn a Master Ball will still be available in the ‘Special’ quests tab.
  • Timed Investigation: Master Ball as part of Season 12: Adventures Abound . This was time-limited research which ran until Dec 1, 2023, and involved a variety of lengthy objectives, including catching 1,000 Pokémon, spinning 300 PokéStops and completing 150 Field Research tasks.

The Timed Investigation: Master Ball quest in Pokémon Go.

Here’s how the Master Ball is introduced as part of the Let’s Go Special Research as part of 2023’s Rising Heroes season:

Can you get more than one Master Ball in Pokémon Go?

Unlike the main games, where the Master Ball is often a one-off item, it’s possible to acquire more than one Master Ball in Pokémon Go .

To date, it has debuted in three seasons so far — Season 10, Season 12, and Season 14 — as a mix of free Special and Timed Research. The current track record suggests a new Master Ball will be available every other season — meaning we can expect a fourth Master Ball as part of Season 16 sometime between Sept. 1 and Dec. 1, 2024.

And yes, you can carry more than one Master Ball at once — so if you’re not sure what to use it on, there’s no rush in keeping a few in your inventory.

Either way, Master Balls are rare — so earn them while you can! When you finally get your hands on one - what is it best used for?

Master Ball best use: When should I use my Master Ball in Pokémon Go?

Master Balls are very rare, and with a 100% catch rate, should ideally only be used in very specific circumstances.

What you decide to use it on is entirely up to you — however, we have some recommendations for the best use of a Master Ball:

  • Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, or Moltres found when using Daily Adventure Incense, which currently have a 0.3% catch rate and a 90% flee rate, and are arguably the most difficult Pokémon to catch in the game.
  • A high IV legendary encounter following a raid that you want to level up, such as Mewtwo . We recommend using your regular set of Premier Balls first, then using a Master Ball as a last resort.
  • Incredibly rare wild encounters such as the “Lake Trio” Uxie, Mesprit or Azelf, or Unown — the exceptions for Unown being a letter/form you already have, or if it spawns during an event, when they are far more common.
  • A shiny Pokémon in the wild . Some exceptions to this include the encounter following a raid (when the catch is guaranteed with your first Premier Ball, provided you land it), and during events such as Community Day, when shinies are far more common.

Ultimately, it’s your call what you decide to use a Master Ball on. If you decide to use it on a Pidgey, go ahead — we’ve all been there — but we recommend saving it for an encounter with a Pokémon you would not want to live without.

Can you miss with a Master Ball in Pokémon Go?

Finally, one question that might come to mind is — can you miss with a Master Ball?

The good news is no, as a special animation will play as soon as you activate the ball. This not only means you will definitely catch it, but brings a little more fanfare to the occasion of putting the Master Ball to use.

You can watch this in action via PokeMiners on Twitter :

Additionally, as shown in the above video, you will get a prompt before you use the Master Ball — meaning it will be difficult to throw one by accident.

Rolex Bezels: How to Use the Yacht-Master Bezel

Rolex Yachtmaster 268622

When Rolex developed the Yacht-Master in 1992, the company sought to create a top-shelf version of the Submariner diver’s watch. Rumor has it that Rolex wasn’t quite brave enough to make any drastic changes to the design of the iconic Submariner itself, resulting in the Rolex Yacht-Master being added to the catalog as a separate model.

Both watches may look similar with the use of a dial topped with lume, a robust Oyster case, and a timing bezel, but they serve two very different functions. With a build similar to the Submariner, you can expect some of the Yacht-Master’s key functions to operate in the same way. However, while the Submariner is meant for use far below the surface of the ocean, the Yacht-Master is better suited for the decks of a yacht. Since its release over 20 years ago, the Rolex Yacht-Master has become a highly sought-after timepiece, thanks to a blend of bold aesthetics, quality craftsmanship, premium materials, and plenty of variety.

Getting back to the Yacht-Master’s status as a sports watch as well as a boating watch, the bezel’s primary function is to measure amounts of time while at sea, as well as sync with race start times during a regatta. Read on to find out how to use the Rolex Yacht-Master bezel – whether you’re sailing or not.

Rolex Yacht-Master as a Tool Watch

As its name would suggest, the Rolex Yacht-Master was developed as a tool-watch for sailing, offering water-resistance up to 100 meters (330 feet) via a Triplock screw-down crown, a highly legible dial, and a bidirectional rotating timing bezel. It’s worth noting that the Yacht-Master was initially only offered in an all-gold finish, with more affordable two-tone options hitting the market in the subsequent years.

Today, the Yacht-Master is the most varied Rolex sports watch collection, available in several sizes, materials, and colorways. Tapered lugs complement the luxurious style of the bezel, which features a matte finish with glossy raised numerals. This gives the Rolex Yacht-Master a refined appearance that stands apart from the more tool-oriented Submariner.

Depending on the reference, the Rolex Yacht-Master bezel is either crafted from sandblasted precious metals or matte black Cerachrom ceramic. The 60-minute timing bezels of the Yacht-Master are distinguished by raised markings, which include numerals and batons. Unlike the unidirectional bezel of the Submariner, the timing bezel on the Yacht-Master is capable of rotating both ways.

How to Use the Yacht-Master Bezel to Sync with Regatta Start Times

A regatta is a sporting event involving a series of yacht races, and the races have timed starting sequences. Boats have to sail back and forth behind the starting line during the countdown sequence without crossing the line too early (an early start leads to a penalty). Therefore, the Yacht-Master bezel can be used to sync with the official countdown to the race start time. Consequently, it’s especially beneficial that the Rolex Yacht-Master bezel has graduations for the first 10 minutes.

To operate the bezel on the Rolex Yacht-Master, all the user needs to do is simply align the zero position on the bezel (the inverted triangle) with the minute hand, then use the 10-minute hashes to count down to the race start time. For instance, if the countdown is three minutes, then the user has to start when the minute hand reaches the third graduation on the bezel.

How to Use the Yacht-Master Bezel to Measure Elapsed Time

Measuring elapsed time with the Yacht-Master bezel is pretty straightforward up to 60 minutes. This would come in handy to calculate the sailing time between two buoys. To start, rotate the bezel in either direction to sync the zero market with the minute hand. Once finished, the minute hand will point to the amount of time that has passed against the 60-minute scale on the bezel.

For example, if it is 10:21 at the start of an event, rotate the bezel until the zero position lines up with the minute hand at the 21st minute. Once the event is over, look at where the minute hand points to on the bezel and it will tell you how many minutes have passed. For instance, if the minute hand points to 35 on the bezel, 35 minutes have elapsed since the timer started.

Although these options are useful while sailing, many of us won’t have this need in our everyday lives, as sailing is a niche sport. Thankfully, the Rolex Yacht-Master’s timing capabilities can be used for any event, be it another type of race, or even to time something as quotidian as keeping track of the time left on a parking meter or boiling an egg on the stove!
