33+ Yacht Party Attire Ideas: Setting Sail in Style

Julie Higgins

When it comes to yacht party attire, striking the perfect balance between nautical elegance and casual sophistication is the key to making waves at any maritime soirée.

Imagine cruising on sparkling waters, the sun painting the sky in hues of orange and pink as you sip champagne and nibble on gourmet treats.

This is the essence of a yacht party—a luxurious haven where socialites and fashionistas alike come to unwind and celebrate.

While the captivating beauty of the sea and the allure of social mingling over Insta-worthy treats serve as irresistible opportunities to relax and snap some great social media content, your yacht party attire plays a pivotal role in how you experience it.

Choosing the right yacht party attire is not just a fashion statement; it’s a social grace.

Your outfit is your personal brand’s uniform, helping to form those all-important first impressions and showing who you are and what you represent before you even utter a word.

After all, celebrity fashion stylist Rachel Zoe once said: “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak!”

Whether you’re aiming for casual sophistication or an evening of glamour, your wardrobe choices can set the tone for the party and ensure that you’re comfortable, confident, and appropriately dressed for the occasion.

Understanding Yacht Party Attire

Yacht parties come in many shapes and styles, from daytime soirees to sunset cocktail events and even formal black-tie affairs.

Understanding the tone of the party you’re attending is essential in getting the dress code right and choosing the appropriate clothing for the occasion.

Types of Yacht Parties

  • Daytime Parties: Often casual and sporty, these are the events where you can revel in your love for pastels, shorts, and deck shoes – the stereotypical nautical style. A daytime yacht party typically has a relaxed and airy vibe, ideal for linen dresses, polo shirts, and flip-flops.
  • Sunset Parties: As the day turns to evening, the attire takes a more glamorous turn. Think cocktail dresses, tailored jackets, and smart-casual outfits that allow you to transition from day to night seamlessly.
  • Formal Events: These are the crème de la crème of yacht parties, where the dress code could range from cocktail attire to full black-tie. Men are expected to show up in tuxedos or at least a well-tailored suit, and women often wear elegant evening gowns or chic cocktail dresses.

Ambiance and Setting

The ambiance is directly influenced by the type of yacht party.

Daytime events are generally cheerful and relaxed, often with summer tunes playing in the background.

It’s almost like a scene from those cool summer music videos that you typically lust over on TV when you’re stuck at home wearing chunky knits in the middle of winter!

You might find people lounging in swimwear, cover-ups, or casual summer dresses. The evening parties, however, usually come with a hint of formality.

Dim lighting, jazz or classical music, and a more sophisticated crowd require an equally sophisticated wardrobe.

Understanding the ambiance and setting not only helps you choose your outfit but also prepares you for the social dynamics of the party.

Always remember, the right yacht party attire can help you navigate through any social sea with grace and confidence.

Daytime Yacht Party Attire

When the sun is shining and the yacht sets sail for a daytime soiree, think airy, relaxed, and comfortable, but never compromise on style.

The key to nailing daytime yacht party attire lies in lightweight fabrics like cotton, linen, and chambray.

These fabrics not only help to keep you cool but also make you appear effortlessly chic and elegant without looking too over the top.

Women can opt for breathable summer dresses or a stylish combination of tailored shorts with a sleeveless blouse.

Men might consider wearing cotton or linen shorts paired with a crisp polo shirt or even a short-sleeve button-down shirt.

Don’t shy away from nautical prints—think stripes, anchors, or even seashells—to give your outfit that quintessential maritime touch.

Comfortable shoes are a must; you’ll likely be walking around, socializing, or perhaps even dancing. Boat shoes, espadrilles, or sophisticated flip-flops are great choices that blend comfort with style.

Sunset and Evening Yacht Party Attire

As the day transitions into evening, yacht parties often adopt a more sophisticated and formal tone.

The relaxed shorts and flip-flops that served you well during the day are replaced by chic sundresses, elegant jumpsuits, and smart separates like tailored pants and silk blouses.

Fabrics like silk, satin, or lightweight wool are the perfect way to cover-up in the evening when enjoying watching golden hour turn to sunsets over the sea.

These kinds of fabrics also offer a luxurious touch and are ideal for travel too.

For men, a well-fitted blazer can transform a casual daytime look into a smart evening ensemble when paired with dark jeans or tailored pants.

It’s always a good idea to bring along a stylish layer piece for evening parties, as temperatures can drop quite significantly after sunset.

Women can opt for a lightweight pashmina shawl or a fashionable jacket, while men might consider a lightweight sweater or casual sports jacket.

The key is to choose garments that are easily removable yet blend seamlessly with your outfit, keeping you comfortable without sacrificing style.

Try to avoid tight-fitting sweaters that can mess up your hairdo or makeup or are generally just uncomfortable and tricky to pull on and off over your head.

Nautical Elements and Color Palette

In the world of yacht parties, the nautical fashion trend is a timeless classic.

You know the one!

Clean, bold navy stripes across a crisp white canvas.

These patterns are usually worn on t-shirts, dresses or shirts and teamed with white shorts or trousers and light canvas shoes.

The palette is usually dominated by navy, white, and accents of red or gold.

These colors not only evoke the maritime spirit but also offer a touch of elegance and simplicity.

Incorporating these shades into your outfit, whether through a navy-blue blazer or a white linen dress, can make a subtle yet striking impact.

Maritime-inspired accessories can serve as the finishing touch. Think anchor-shaped pendants, sailor knots, or even rope belts.

Get creative with nautical-inspired accessories and have fun! What better place to lose yourself in this trend than when dressing for a yacht party at sea!

These little details can provide that extra layer of authenticity and sophistication to your yacht party looks, making you appear not just fashionable but also in tune with the sea-loving setting.

Footwear Choices for Yacht Parties

Your choice of footwear can greatly influence your overall experience at a yacht party.

While you might be tempted to sport those killer heels or brand-new leather loafers, comfort should be your primary concern.

Espadrilles offer a chic yet comfortable solution, providing a cushiony base and ample style.

Boat shoes are another excellent choice, especially for men, as they offer good grip and a timeless look.

Sandals, preferably with a back strap, can also work well, offering both comfort and ease of movement.

While high heels might look glamorous, they can be a recipe for disaster on a boat.

Not only are they uncomfortable when worn for long periods of time, but they also pose a safety risk too, particularly during bouts of turbulence from rough tides or when you’re moving around on a deck that can become slippery from overlapping waves.

When it comes to yacht parties, style should never come at the cost of safety or comfort.

This is your ideal opportunity to dress up and look glamorous minus the heels so why not make the most of it!

Accessorizing for Yacht Glamour

The right accessories can significantly elevate your daytime yacht attire.  When it comes to elevating your yacht party outfit , accessories play a crucial role.

The right choice of accessories can add that final touch of glamour, converting a good outfit into an extraordinary one.

Sunglasses are a must, not just as a style statement but also for eye protection. Choose a pair that complements the shape of your face and the vibe of your outfit.

You typically can’t go wrong with classic styles in black, tortoiseshell or metal-rimmed aviators.

For daytime events, statement sunglasses are not just practical for shielding your eyes from the sun; they’re also a cornerstone of yacht chic.

Whether it’s a classic aviator, a retro cat-eye, or an oversized pair, the style you choose can speak volumes.

Hats are another accessory that serves dual purposes: function and fashion.

A wide-brimmed hat can protect you from direct sun exposure while adding a hint of sophistication to your look.

Wide-brim sun hats or casual baseball caps can add flair while offering the practical benefit of shielding you from the sun.

Similarly, a well-chosen piece of elegant jewelry—perhaps a pearl necklace or a set of gold bangles—can light up your outfit in the evening.

Don’t overlook functional accessories like a chic sunhat for daytime or a stylish clutch for the evening.

These items can hold your essentials while complementing your ensemble.

A light scarf or bandana is another versatile accessory, offering a pop of color and serving as a functional piece to keep your hairstyle and patience intact against the occasional gust of wind.

Remember, accessories are your chance to inject personality into your outfit.

Choose pieces that resonate with your style but also match the event’s theme.

The right balance between practicality and flair can set you apart in the most sophisticated manner.

Navigating Formal Yacht Party Attire

Formal yacht parties take the concept of nautical elegance to the next level.

Dress codes can range from cocktail attire to black-tie, which means a step up from your regular party wardrobe.

Ladies can opt for elegant cocktail dresses that exude sophistication.

Fabrics like silk, chiffon, or lace add a luxurious touch that fits the high-end setting.

If the event is black-tie, an evening gown is more appropriate, preferably in understated colors like black, navy, or metallic shades.

When choosing an evening dress, try to remember that “less is more” and we don’t mean the amount of material!

Be mindful of not picking a style that’s overly revealing and showing off too much cleavage.

Not only is flashing the skin not deemed appropriate in this type of formal setting, you also run the risk of experiencing a potentially embarrassing wardrobe malfunction when onboard.

For men, a tailored suit can often suffice for a cocktail dress code.

However, for black-tie events, a tuxedo becomes almost imperative. Look for high-quality materials and a fit that complements your body shape.

Remember, a well-tailored suit or tuxedo not only looks good but also boosts your confidence, enhancing your overall experience at the party.

Packing Essentials and Preparation

Preparing for a yacht party involves more than just choosing an outfit. The trick lies in packing smartly to cover all scenarios.

Your checklist should include not just your main outfit but also layering options, swimwear, and a change of clothes if the party extends into the late hours.

Don’t forget essential accessories like sunglasses, hats, and perhaps even a light scarf or shawl for cooler temperatures.

Always consider the weather forecast and the possibility of water activities when packing.

Ziplock bags can be handy for protecting your phone and other essentials from water damage.

Pack your outfits in garment bags to keep them in good condition and use shoe bags for your footwear to maintain their shape and cleanliness.

Choosing the perfect yacht party attire can feel overwhelming, but it’s all about balancing style with comfort and appropriateness for the occasion.

Whether it’s a casual daytime event or a swanky evening soiree, your outfit sets the tone for your experience.

Never underestimate the power of well-chosen accessories or the importance of appropriate grooming and skincare.

Embrace your personal style but be respectful of the event’s vibe and dress code.

After all, yacht parties are an embodiment of fashion, luxury, and the majestic backdrop of the sea.

What To Wear To A Yacht Party At Night (Fashion Tips)

Posted on June 17, 2022

You’re going to a nighttime yacht party! Wait – what should you wear? Your host hasn’t given you dress code pointers or a theme, and while you throw together decent outfits for parties on land, you’re clueless about what to wear at sea. There’s water, so will it have a pool-party vibe? Or will it be a glitzy shindig needing a full-on fancy outfit? What should you wear to a yacht party at night?

Dress in cocktail wear for a nighttime yacht party if no other dress code has been specified. Women can choose from cocktail dresses, pantsuits, jumpsuits, matching sets, or blouses tucked into dress pants. Suitable outfits for men include suits, dress pants, and blazers, or chinos and jackets.

Cocktail wear is just right for most nighttime yacht parties because it’s smart enough to make a good impression without being too formal for a yacht’s easy-breezy atmosphere. Some yacht events are, of course, black-tie affairs requiring tuxedos and evening gowns. But your host would have mentioned this on your invite. For outfit ideas for less-lavish yacht parties, we’ve got you covered.

Night Yacht Party Dressing Tips For Women And Men

When picking your yacht-party-ready outfit, consider three things: style, comfort, and safety.

Night Yacht Party Dressing: Style

For pitch-perfect night yacht party dressing, you’re aiming for a look somewhere between boardshorts and bikini and evening gown and tuxedo.

You’ll get this dress code right by sporting something you’d wear to a fancy dinner or cocktail party on land. Your goal is to look well put together without trying too hard (and be comfy enough to bust a move on the dancefloor!).

night yacht party style

Nautical style influences are popular in yacht wear, so consider bringing some navy, crisp white, brass buttons, or pops of red into your outfit.

Focus on fabric and avoid synthetics in favor of breathable naturals like cotton, linen, and silk.

You also want to avoid extremes in your footwear – no slip-slops or stilettos. And don’t choose your shoes to be the standout piece of your outfit, as you might be asked to take them off. Some shoes can wreck yachts’ decks, so make sure your outfit works with or without your shoes.

Night Yacht Party Dressing: Comfort

night yacht party dressing comfort

Yacht living is synonymous with luxury and leisure. Choose understatedly glamorous and comfy clothing to reflect this spirit.

But don’t take comfort too far. Go for clothes that feel amazing on your body but nothing too loose. Voluminous pieces will blow in the sea breeze , whipping against you and your fellow guests. And you’ll be anything but comfortable if you constantly need to restrain extra layers of fabric.

Another tip to keep you comfortable on board is to take something warm with you to wear if you feel chilly. It might be balmy when you set out, but it gets cool on the water.

Night Yacht Party Dressing: Safety

Yacht parties come with more risks than your standard garden party. The big one: tripping and falling overboard. So, you need to think about safety, including when selecting your outfit.

Long skirts and dresses are a tripping hazard. Rather stick to shorter hemlines.

Slip-slops and stilettos are not only fashion faux pas but also safety threats. You want to be sure of your footing, so wear flat shoes with a better grip than slops.

Plus, leave your long necklaces, chandelier earrings, and luxury watches at home. Dangly jewelry can blow in the wind, get stuck in something, and tug at your earlobes or make you trip, and sea spray can ruin your precious watch.

Night Yacht Party Outfit Inspiration For Women

These outfit options are sure to score you a place on the best-dressed list:

  • A cocktail dress. Try one in a rich jewel color to complement the deep blue of the night sky and ocean, or outshine the twinkling stars in a sequined number. Your trusty LBD will work well, too.
  • A jumpsuit. This is the ultimate piece for style and comfort. Choose an elegant design with details such as romantic sleeve ruffles, a low back, or a cowl neck. Or go for a timeless silk jumpsuit in a neutral color.
  • A pantsuit. Tailored suits aren’t only for the boys. Choose a sleek, cinched-waist two-piece with a silk camisole underneath.
  • A matching set. Be on-trend in a high-waisted skirt, shorts, or pants and a matching crop top. Add a blazer for a smarter outfit.
  • A blouse and dressy pants. Tuck a pretty, floaty blouse into smart trousers for a more casual yet still polished look. Add a nice leather belt for extra style points.

Ballet flats are the top shoe pick for a yacht party. You could also slip your feet into a pair of evening sandals, wedges, or kitten heels.

If you want to make your outfit showier, carry a beaded, sparkly, feathered, or satin clutch.

Night Yacht Party Outfit Inspiration For Men

Put together a winning look with one of these outfits:

  • A suit. Pair your choice of the suit (whether double-breasted, three-piece, or just a basic matching top and bottom) with a button-down and tie. Wear a rollneck jumper or perfect-fit T-shirt under your jacket for a more laid-back vibe.
  • Dress pants and blazer. Choose pieces in a similar shade for a polished look. Slim-fit or cropped trousers are yacht-style staples.
  • Chinos and jacket. For a relaxed option, wear your favorite chinos with a jacket. Or skip the jacket and wear a bold-print button-down with sleeves rolled up. Pick a dark color like navy, black, or charcoal for your chinos or add a tie to smarten up your outfit.

Brogues and derbies are both shoe styles for a smart-casual dress code . Wear loafers or leather trainers if you want something more casual and comfy.

Feel your outfit’s missing something? Experiment with a pocket square, statement belt, bowtie, or neckerchief.

Rock up at a yacht party looking either too casual or formal, and you might feel like jumping overboard in embarrassment (or you could tempt an image-conscious host to push you over!). Instead, help set the scene for a night to remember by dressing in cocktail wear. You’ll look stylish and feel at ease.

Also, think about safety when deciding what to wear. Avoid anything super long or baggy, dangly jewelry, and slippery or sky-high shoes. Then again, don’t put too much thought into your shoes – you might be asked to take them off!

Dress to Impress: What to Wear to a Yacht Party

Introduction.

Attending a yacht party can be an exciting and glamorous experience, but it's important to dress appropriately for the occasion. Whether you're a seasoned yacht-goer or a first-timer, it's essential to understand the dress code and theme of the party to ensure you make the right impression. The first thing to consider when dressing for a yacht party is the theme of the event. If there is a specific theme, such as a nautical or tropical theme, it's important to incorporate elements of that theme into your outfit. This can be as simple as wearing a striped shirt or incorporating bright, tropical colors into your ensemble. Another important factor to consider is the location of the yacht party. If the party is taking place in a tropical location, lightweight and breathable fabrics are a must. Opt for cotton or linen materials that will keep you cool and comfortable in the heat. On the other hand, if the party is taking place in a cooler climate, layering options such as a light jacket or sweater may be necessary. It's also important to consider whether or not there is a specific dress code for the yacht party. If there is, be sure to adhere to it and dress accordingly. If not, classic yacht party attire such as nautical stripes, boat shoes, and khaki pants are always a safe bet. Finally, don't forget to accessorize your outfit to complete the look. Statement sunglasses, a sun hat, and a beach bag are all great options to consider. When it comes to footwear, boat shoes, sandals, or espadrilles are appropriate choices. It's important to avoid wearing heels or anything that may damage the deck of the yacht. In conclusion, dressing for a yacht party can be a fun and exciting experience. By considering the theme of the party, the location, and the dress code (if there is one), you can ensure that you make the right impression and feel confident in your outfit. Remember to have fun with your outfit choices while still being mindful of the occasion.

Consider the venue, accessories, men's attire.

When deciding what to wear to a yacht party, it's important to consider the venue. The location of the party can greatly influence your outfit choice. If the party is taking place in a tropical location, you'll want to opt for light and breezy fabrics that will keep you cool in the heat. Think flowy sundresses, linen pants, and cotton shirts. Bright colors and bold prints are also a great choice for a tropical yacht party. On the other hand, if the party is taking place in a cooler climate, you'll want to dress in layers to stay warm. A light jacket or sweater paired with a dress or pants and a blouse is a great option. Neutral colors like navy, white, and beige are perfect for a cooler climate yacht party. It's also important to consider the type of yacht you'll be on. If the yacht is more casual, you can get away with a more relaxed outfit. However, if the yacht is more formal, you'll want to dress accordingly. Always check with the host or hostess to see if there is a specific dress code for the party. Overall, when considering the venue for a yacht party, it's important to dress for the weather and the type of yacht you'll be on. Keep in mind that you'll be on a boat, so you'll want to wear something that is comfortable and won't get in the way. With these tips in mind, you'll be sure to impress at your next yacht party.

When it comes to dressing for a yacht party, it's important to consider whether or not there is a specific dress code. Some yacht parties may have a formal dress code, while others may be more casual. If there is a dress code, it's important to adhere to it to show respect for the host and other guests. If there is no dress code specified, there are still some classic yacht party attire options to consider. Nautical stripes are always a safe bet, as are boat shoes. For women, a sundress or jumpsuit in a light and breezy fabric can be a great option. For men, a collared shirt and khaki pants can be a good choice. It's important to remember that even if there is no dress code, a yacht party is still a special occasion and it's important to dress appropriately. Avoid anything too casual, such as shorts or flip flops, and opt for something a bit more put-together. Ultimately, the key to dressing for a yacht party is to strike a balance between comfort and style. You want to be able to move around and enjoy yourself, but you also want to look good while doing it. Don't be afraid to have fun with your outfit choices, but always be mindful of the occasion and the other guests. With the right outfit, you'll be sure to impress and have a great time on the yacht.

Accessories are an essential part of any outfit, and they can make or break your look at a yacht party. When it comes to accessorizing for a yacht party, think statement pieces that will elevate your outfit and add a touch of glamour. One of the most important accessories for a yacht party is sunglasses. Not only do they protect your eyes from the sun, but they also add a touch of sophistication to your look. Opt for a pair of oversized sunglasses with a bold frame to make a statement. Another must-have accessory for a yacht party is a sun hat. Not only will it protect your face from the sun, but it will also add a touch of elegance to your outfit. Choose a wide-brimmed hat in a neutral color like beige or white to complement your outfit. A beach bag is also a great accessory to bring to a yacht party. Not only will it hold all of your essentials like sunscreen and a towel, but it will also add a touch of style to your look. Choose a straw beach bag with colorful tassels or pom-poms for a fun and playful touch. When it comes to jewelry, less is more at a yacht party. Opt for a simple pair of earrings or a delicate necklace to add a touch of sparkle to your outfit. Avoid anything too flashy or over-the-top, as it can detract from your overall look. In conclusion, accessories are an important part of any outfit, and they can take your yacht party look to the next level. Choose statement pieces like oversized sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and a straw beach bag to add a touch of glamour to your outfit. Remember to keep your jewelry simple and understated, and you'll be sure to turn heads at your next yacht party.

When it comes to footwear for a yacht party, it's important to strike a balance between style and practicality. While you want to look fashionable and put-together, you also need to consider the fact that you'll be spending time on a boat. This means that you'll need to choose shoes that are comfortable, slip-resistant, and won't damage the deck of the yacht. One classic option for both men and women is the boat shoe. These shoes are designed with a non-slip sole and are made from materials that can withstand exposure to water. They also have a preppy, nautical look that is perfect for a yacht party. For women, sandals or espadrilles are also a great choice. Look for styles with a low heel or flat sole to ensure that you can move around the boat with ease. It's important to avoid wearing heels or anything with a sharp or pointed sole. These types of shoes can easily damage the deck of the yacht, which is not only a faux pas but can also be dangerous. Additionally, you'll want to avoid shoes that are too casual, such as flip-flops or sneakers. While these may be comfortable, they don't quite fit the dress code for a yacht party. When choosing footwear for a yacht party, it's also important to consider the color and style of your outfit. If you're wearing a bold or patterned dress, for example, you may want to opt for neutral-colored shoes to balance out the look. On the other hand, if you're wearing a simple outfit, you can add a pop of color or texture with your shoes. Overall, the key to choosing footwear for a yacht party is to prioritize comfort and practicality while still looking stylish. With the right shoes, you'll be able to enjoy the party without worrying about slipping or damaging the yacht.

When it comes to dressing for a yacht party, men have a few options to choose from. The key is to strike a balance between looking stylish and being comfortable. Linen or cotton pants are a great choice for a yacht party, as they are lightweight and breathable. Pair them with a polo shirt for a classic, preppy look. Boat shoes are a must-have for any yacht party outfit, as they are both stylish and practical. They provide good grip on the deck of the yacht and are comfortable to wear for long periods of time. While shorts may be tempting in warm weather, they are generally not appropriate for a yacht party. Instead, opt for pants or even a pair of tailored shorts if the dress code allows. Avoid anything too casual, such as t-shirts or athletic wear. A yacht party is a special occasion, and your outfit should reflect that. Accessories can also play a role in a man's yacht party outfit. Sunglasses are a must-have for any outdoor event, and a sun hat can provide both style and sun protection. A watch is also a great accessory to add to your outfit, as it can complete the look and add a touch of sophistication. In summary, men should aim for a classic, preppy look when dressing for a yacht party. Linen or cotton pants, a polo shirt, and boat shoes are all great options. Avoid anything too casual, such as shorts or athletic wear. Don't forget to add some accessories to complete the look and have fun with your outfit while still being mindful of the occasion.

What to wear to a boat party, what is a boat party.

For the unacquainted, a boat party is an exclusive party typically held in a boat, or in more luxurious cases, a yacht. The boat will sail out into the water so you and your friends can enjoy the view of the city from the sea, and you can also change into your favourite swimsuit so you can dive and swim around. This is a type of casual affair that really doesn’t need formal wear like long gowns – at best, the most formal you can go for is a cocktail dress and a nice pair of high heels. We have curated a guide to being the best dressed and prepared for your next boat party.

smart casual yacht party dress code

1. Dress Smart Casual

Boat party dress codes vary from casual to classy , but choosing an outfit with a more relaxed fit is the key. Ideally, you want to wear flowing dresses and skirts, wide-legged soft pants and comfortable shirts. Offset these with tighter silhouettes elsewhere in the ensemble and you have the perfect balance.

If the event is more formal, top a figure-enhancing dress or jumpsuit with a dressy jacket to create a sense of sophistication. This combination lets you arrive in style, stay warm in the breeze, cool in the heat , and leave the jacket aside when the party gets going.

Below are our top 6 best dresses for your next boat party!

2. Think Comfortable

As for footwear, you can opt for either a comfy pair of Sandals or Flats. You can also bring a light jacket with you in case it will get cold on the boat ride. Colours like light blue and white are a good choice as these are light colours that are easy on the eyes, especially on a sunny day out on the boat deck.

3. Come Prepared

Don’t forget to bring sunscreen and a hat. In summer UV levels can reach a high of 12 even on a cloudy day, being exposed to the sun all day you need to be prepared. We would recommend SPF 50+, a wide brim hat, sunglasses and a light flowing maxi dress.

 4. Be Responsible

Have as much fun as possible but remember you are on the boat for a certain number of hours so drink responsibly.

Ultimate Guide: What to Wear to a Boat Party for an Unforgettable Sea Adventure

Boat party outfit.

Deciding what to wear to a boat party is often the first thought that crosses your mind upon receiving an invite, overshadowing even the excitement and celebration that awaits. Club Canary, a luxury tour company based in the Canary Islands, specializes in organizing daily private boat trips and exclusive boat parties for our clients. Drawing from our rich experience and client feedback, we’ve curated essential style tips for your next sea soirée.

Boat parties stand apart from typical social gatherings. They promise an unparalleled blend of fun and freedom, occurring at various times throughout the day and often featuring spontaneous dips in the ocean. Therefore, your outfit choice for a yacht party should not only align with the elegance of evening wear but also offer comfort and versatility for daytime activities and swimming.

The ideal yacht party attire balances glamour with practicality, ensuring you look stunning under the dazzling lights without feeling out of place when the party transitions from deck to sea. Here’s how to strike the perfect balance for your next boat party ensemble.

How to dress for a boat party

In general, dress codes for nautical parties vary from casual to smart depending on the event. We think the key is to choose a fairly casual outfit. Flowing dresses and skirts, soft trousers and comfortable shirts are ideal.

Don’t forget that you can always use a stylish one-piece swimming costume, such as a bodysuit to wear under shorts, trousers or a skirt and a bikini top to offset any bottom style. Just make sure the swimming costume is simple if you plan to wear it as an outing outfit.

For the men, the choice is less varied, but we advise you to opt for an equally casual outfit as the women.

Go for a plain t-shirt and swimming shorts or if you want something a bit more formal, a polo shirt or linen shirt and trousers will do the trick.

Most importantly, don’t forget to bring your swimsuit!

Boat trips are all about having fun, so don’t feel like you have to dress up. A simple, casual outfit is perfect for a boat trip.

What kind of textiles to wear and what about colours

The nautical colours of black, blue and white will work wonders when complemented with bright colours such as green, yellow and bright red. These are the colours that make you feel relaxed and ready to party.

Did you know that many people’s favourite summer fabric is linen? Linen clothes will keep you cool and stylish, even if they get wrinkled. Pair linen with nautical shorts to bring out a cute, sailor-inspired look.

Trust us, with our tips you’ll be perfect for your party!

What to bring for a boat trip

If you want to have a perfect boat trip, don’t forget this:

  • A pair of sunglasses
  • Your swimming costume
  • A change of clothes

A change of clothes is not compulsory, but is often recommended. You never really know what can happen on board a boat and it is better to be prepared in case your clothing gets wet.

When you take a boat trip or go to  a boat party , you enter a new world! The world of infinite freedom awaits you, with its fresh sea breezes and endless expanses of water. Savour the beauty of the sea beaches and immerse yourself in the sea water for a divine feeling. A boat ride is simply exotic and rejuvenating when you sail with your friends or family members. Go ahead and make unforgettable memories on your boat ride!

The Sailor's Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club

If you've been invited to a casual yacht club rendezvous, you'll need the right threads to fit in.  in this guide, we'll walk you through the yacht club attire you'll need to fit in. hint: you can find the perfect outfit head to toe with castaway.

You've been invited to a meal or event at a local yacht club, but you've never been to one before. Suddenly, the panic sets in. What should you wear? Fortunately, there are lots of options and visiting a yacht club does not mean you have to spend a lot of money just to fit in. This post will give you some pointers on yacht club attire so that you feel neither under nor overdressed, and can really enjoy yourself and have a great time at the club.

Before you even think about what to wear, check to see if the yacht club you're going to has a dress code posted online. Most of them do, and the rules can vary from club to club. The Nantucket Yacht Club , for example, requires semi-formal attire for its dinners and cocktail attire including ties for men during its dinner dances and balls. The Hyannis Yacht Club goes into a little more detail. It accepts stylish casual wear including clean, neat jeans and shorts for lunch. For dinner, guests are expected to step it up by leaving the denim at home and wearing sports coats. Different areas of a club may also have different dress rules. Bars and outdoor decks tend to more lax and allow casual clothing.

Sometimes, the easiest way of narrowing down what to wear is to eliminate what you should not wear. This is just a partial list of how not to show up at any kind of yacht club unless you want to be denied admittance or receive a lot of disapproving glares. All rules listed apply to the inside of the club, and can vary for beach and dock rulings.

Flip Flops or Going Barefoot: This rule applies INSIDE the club, or for any meal time. Most people love the beach, but going barefoot is not only unacceptable, but unhygienic.

You'll want to wear appropriate footwear such as sturdy sandals or closed toe shoes. While a lot of children and adults love their flip-flops, they may be a little too casual for a yacht club atmosphere. The most popular choice here is a boat shoe style but a bridle bit driver is always appropriate - check the latest . The lightly worn leather and pencil-curled laces fit the bill in the cool department.

Torn, Stained, or Worn Clothing: Any attire that is showing signs of wear such as rips, stains that never came out, holes, missing buttons, etc. should be left at home.

Baseball Caps and Other Hats: Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue. Save them for the sailing excursions.

Extra points on the water if you rock the Club’s Burgee on the hat!

Swimwear: Just a no-no. Save it for the boat and the beach. A cover-up can be acceptable for the patio.

Going Shirtless: Nope!

Undershirts as Shirts: See above. You may also want to be careful about choosing a t-shirt, particularly one with graphics, when visiting a yacht club. Most prefer that you wear a collared shirt, even if it's a casual one such as a polo shirt.

Tank tops for men and any tank tops for women that are skimpy and don't hide undergarments should be saved for another occasion.

Women have a lot of options when it comes to visiting a yacht club. Linen and cotton make the perfect summer blouses. A light but structured Sleeveless Top paired with a  sweater is perfect for warding off cool sea breezes when you're out on the deck. A polo or collared shirt works well for the yacht club scene as well. You can also consider a dressy blouse that has a little bit of flounce to it. If shorts are allowed for the time and area of the club you're visiting, consider sporting  Sailing  shorts  with a cute anchor embroidery. They're cool, classy, and show off just the right amount of leg. Casual skirts and dresses are perfectly fine as well as long as they're not too short and revealing. If you're attending a party at a yacht club you may need to wear a nice cocktail dress, or a classic Tunic Dress for a day event. Special events such as balls and dinner dances usually specify what is appropriate attire on the invitation.

Don't forget to have fun with accessories! A straw handbag can complete a nautical themed look.

For most casual yacht club occasions, men can't go wrong with a collared shirt and long pants or Cisco Shorts . Pastel and preppy shades such as summer green, hurricane red, and islander blue rule here.

When casual attire is allowed, collared sport or polo shirts are always in fashion. Seersucker and linen shirts are available in several colors and patterns for summer club get-togethers. If jeans are not allowed, seersucker or cotton canvas pants are still casual and comfortable yet dressy enough for all areas of a yacht club. If you really want to show your love of nautical dressing, consider wearing a fun Embroidered Pant !

Or you can opt for solid pants but add some nautical flair with an embroidered belt . Classic summer staples like Seersucker and Madras Patches will make you the talk of the Club, in a good way!

For those chilly sea breezes and evenings, a quarter zip pullover wards off the cool air while keeping you stylish and casual.

It's a good idea to keep a sportcoat and a few ties in your closet just in case the yacht club you're visiting requires it. Opt for a fun all over embroidered jacket, or a Madras Patchwork style to really up your game.

Kids' clothing should conform to the same yacht club rules as established for grown-up guests. If you really want your son to look cute, consider dressing him in the same matching outfit as dad.

What to Wear on A Yacht Dinner- Party In Style 2022

You scored an invite to a yacht party, Lucky you! Well, the next question in most people’s minds is usually ‘What do I wear,’ you don’t want to look out of place. It’s important to look and feel good while going out, and a yacht party is no different.

While for most of us choosing what to wear can be a bit intimidating, you don’t need designer wear to look good. A simple attire plus accessories can just do the trick but, always have in mind that in a boat, safety is paramount and that even includes clothing.

As a guest, you must behave and dress appropriately. For this article, we are going to delve deeper and provide a detailed guide on what you should wear on a yacht dinner, especially for night events. So, let’s fire away!

Yacht Clubwear Don’ts

Yacht club attires can vary from time to time, depending on the vent and the time of the day. Regardless, some clothing just is not acceptable regardless of how good or chic you might look on them.

For those who care about how they appear, here are some of the attires that you should always avoid:

During any mealtime, this rule applies everywhere, and a yacht dinner is no exception. Even though going to the beach, you might feel like walking bare feet, but it’s unhygienic, I always recommend wearing closed-toe shoes or sturdy sandals.

Torn or worn clothing

An attire showing signs of being torn or worn out, a loose button is a no-no! And should be left at home.

Baseball hats or other hats

When it comes to hats, Yachts’ have a preference for men removing their caps while aboard, and you can save yourself the shame of being turned away by not wearing them.

Undershirts

When choosing what shirt to wear, you might to be a little bit careful. For men, a collared shirt is appropriate, while if you feel like going casual, a polo shirt will do the trick. Tank tops for both women and men can be a little bit too skimpy as they don’t hide underwear and can be right for other occasions.

Attires for different events

Dance party.

For an evening dance party, you can go for casual nightclothes. The material of the clothing is very important; its fabric must be flowy, soft, and thin. We all know how chilly it getsnight, and Light jacket is acceptable.

For men, you can go for comfortable jeans, pants or khaki. You should accompany your pants with casual polo or a dress shirt; both options will make you look stunning and fashionable; for outwear, a light jacket is recommended.

For footwear, to complement your outfit, a Sperry men boat shoes should do the trick. Also, a non-marking shoe can go with any outfit that you decide to wear that night.

Note, a dance party is a casual affair, and wearing formal footwear is not suitable for that particular type of event.

For ladies, waist dresses and skirt with flounces is the perfect option. You can also wear colorful tops and loose pants, giving you that summer vibe, especially if the night is a bit warm.

If you want to look cuter and more girlish, you can wear a wrap or jacket that matches the colors of your outfit. You can also wear; long assorted dresses and you can pair them with earrings. However, it’s vital to avoid heavy make-up or a lot of jewelry; remember you need to look presentable for the event

For footwear, you can decide to go with flats or low-heeled sandals as they match with any type of outfit. Ladies, please avoid high-heels as they are not suitable for dancing and you want to avoid falling overboard .

Cocktail party

Cocktail attire is a bit dressier but not as formal as black-tie. For men, you can wear dress slacks together with a tie and matching jacket; you can also go with a full suit, but remember the color should be neutral or subdued rather than bright colors.

For accessories, you can go with matching footwear and a black leather belt. When it comes to shoes, you should go for black/brown leather shoes that match your belt, or Oxford styled shoes.

Loafers can also give you an attractive appearance. Here is something you should pay close attention to; your socks should match the color of your pants.

For ladies, their cocktail dresses must be mid-length or knee-length made of the subtle or solid fabric print. When it comes to the choice of color, you might want to tone it down a bit; a black dress is a perfect choice.

Another trend that is slowly gaining popularity is the women’s pantsuit. When it comes to accessorizing invest in quality jewelry, go for a singular piece statement and a clutch bag. Always avoid shoulder bags as they don’t go with the ambiance of the event.

When it comes to shoes, sandals or flats is the best choice as it will allow you to light up the dancefloor.

Business party/dinner

Whether you are meeting your workmates or going for business functions regardless of the time, evening wear is not recommended. For most parties, the dress code is usually business-casual, which tells you its more about professionalism than glamour.

When it comes to shirt options, you can wear a polo shirt or button-down that matches your khaki pants. For outwear selections, you can go to a sports coat, blazer, or sweater that can either be brown or black. Other Yacht clubs may specify you dress casually or smart.

For footwear, you can put on oxfords, flat or loafers; they are all gorgeous options.

For ladies, there are plenty of options. You can wear dress pants, a skirt or wrap dress with a long-sleeved dress that will give you a chic and elegant appearance.

When it comes to accessories, don’t overdo it; go for low-key bangles, necklaces, or earrings. On your feet, ballet flats or kitten heel are more appropriate options to go for.

Dinner party

Dinner attire is dependent on the cruise line the company’s dress code; some cruise lines may give a general guideline while others may insist on a specific outfit while others may leave that to decide for yourself.

Well, but always keep in mind that a dinner party may range anywhere from casual, resort casual, formal, or semi-formal. Depending on the stipulated guideline, you may choose what to wear.

As for gents, the formal evening outfit may include a dark suit that matches your footwear; you can also go for a tuxedo with a plain official shirt. The plain shirt should always match your pants. One of the don’ts for the dinner party is boat shoes, khakis, and polo shirts.

For the casual dress code, you can wear khakis, golf shirts, and button-ups. When it comes to footwear, you’ll never go wrong with tennis or oxford shoes; you can also accentuate your outfit by wearing a bright cardigan or pullover.

For casual dinners, the dress code is something non-collared shirts, jeans, and sneakers. You can also wear a t-shirt if the dress guideline stipulates so.

For formal dinner, women are advised to go for a Whole-length gown with nicely done hair and quality jewelry, and kitten heels will make you look like a princess. You can also go with black or white knee-length skirts and long-sleeved tops that will match your kitten heels.

When it comes to a semi-formal dinner, you can decide to go with a cocktail dress with sandals. Other attires that are appropriate for the night include capris, sundresses, knee-length skirts.

As for your feet, flip flops and stilettos are suited for the event. For a casual evening dinner, you can wear a pair of sneakers, jeans, and t-shirts. Not that swimwear’s and tank tops are too revealing and may not be suitable for the night.

Yacht attire for kids

When it comes to kids’ clothing, they should also conform to the yacht stipulated guidelines for grownups. Who wouldn’t want their kids looking dashing like the parents, we all do? You can dress your kids in the same outfit as yourself.

Final word

For a yacht dinner, different events require a variety of outfits or attires. For those going on a date night, you should always strive to adhere to the guidelines and wear something attractive that will make you feel bold, confident, and beautiful.

Whether it’s a formal or casual evening dinner, we have extensively discussed various outfits and provided quick tips that will help you come up with a perfect dinner yacht outfit. A good-looking outfit is a recipe for an enjoyable night out.

Dressing for a Yacht Club Party

Lucky you!  You have just received an invitation for your very first yacht club party.  For most people this brings up the question “What on earth do I wear?”.  Have no fear!  We work with many yacht clubs to make sure their members look sharp with custom ties and scarves .  Here are some of our style tips to help you navigate the waters of yacht club fashion and pull together an amazing outfit.

Yacht Club Wear – Do Nots

While yacht club attire can vary by club and time of day of the event, there are certain items that just won’t do.  You should always avoid the following:

  • T-Shirts / Tank Tops
  • Revealing clothing (i.e. cut-off shirts, mini skirts, etc)
  • Wrinkled or otherwise “sloppy” attire

Also, while you may be tempted to don an ascot or jaunty captain’s hat … don’t.  For most people this will come across as cliche rather than sporty.  Classic styles, nautical colors and smart layers are the best way to go when building your dock-side ensemble.  You can also shop many of the clubs’ stores for shirts and ties embellished with the club logo.

Yacht Club Wear –  Dos

Hopefully, your invitation indicates the dress code.  But if it doesn’t, there are two general rules of thumb.  If the party is during the day, then select attire in the “country club casual” category.  If the party is in the evening, opt for traditional cocktail party wear.

Country Club Casual for Men

A classic polo or Oxford shirt is the standard for men.  Shirts should be clean, in good condition and neatly pressed.  These should be worn with black slacks or khakis.  When it comes to shoes, loafers in brown or black are the most popular choice.  A less popular but also acceptable footwear option is a pair of leather boots in black or brown.  Some yacht clubs require blazers even for daytime events.  To be safe, check the attire requirements posted on the club’s website or call them prior to the event.

Country Club Casual for Women

Just like men, polo shirts paired with well-cut slacks are an acceptable option for women.  Women can also choose a tailored blouse worn with a knee-length cotton skirt for a slightly dressier look.  Another popular ensemble is a simple summer dress with minimal accessories.  A cashmere sweater is the perfect outer layer to protect from cool breezes.  Ballet flats are the top shoe choice when dressing country club casual.

Cocktail Attire for Men

While not as formal as black-tie, cocktail wear is decidedly dressier than daytime apparel at a yacht club.  Dress slacks with a jacket and tie or a full suit are both appropriate options for an evening event.  Choose neutrals and subdued tones over bright colors or prints.  Men should accessorize with a black leather belt and matching shoes.  Stick with a loafer or Oxford style shoe and be sure your socks coordinate with your pants.

Cocktail Attire for Women

Cocktail dresses should be knee-length or midi-length in a solid or very subtle print.  If you are having a tough time finding the right color, the quintessential “little black dress” is always a smart choice.  Another popular trend for evening events is a formal women’s pant suit.  When it comes to accessorizing, less is more.  Choose a single statement piece of jewelry rather than a multitude of pieces and opt for a clutch instead of a shoulder bag.  Heels, dressy sandals, and ballet flats are all acceptable shoe options.

Whether your event is a casual Sunday brunch or a more formal evening affair, our quick tips will help you create the perfect yacht club outfit.   Contact us today to create your own custom yacht club wear !

What To Wear To A Yacht Party?

Picture

Fri Apr 1 By Danny

Certainly, yacht parties are enthralling, exciting, and one of the luxurious ways to celebrate your special moments with your loved ones.

As much as you’re thrilled to attend the celebration, it’s important to choose the right outfit for the party because it can make or break your look. Surprisingly, people think short dresses for women and boardshorts for men are the ideal attire for a yacht party.

However, that’s not the case; you should refrain from wearing such dresses, as you wouldn’t want to sport something that’s outdated. For a boat party, you must go for stylish yet comfortable clothing to look great and have a ball with your dear ones.

So, we are letting out some cool outfit ideas that you can consider for the next boat party. Let’s get started!

Although it’s safer to stick to traditional attires such as long dresses for women and coats and ties for men, it largely depends on the occasion.

Whether you’re attending an anniversary celebration, birthday party boats Sydney or your friend’s wedding reception, it’s important to wear a dress suited to that occasion. So, if you’ve been scouring the internet for some uber-chic outfits, we’ve got your back with our suggestions.

What To Wear To A Yacht Party? | Yacht Party Outfits | Sydney Boat Hire

1. Light-Coloured Breezy Dresses Are Ideal For A Summer Yacht Party

More often than not, people throw yacht parties during the summer months as you can dive in the water, bask in the sun or enjoy the cool breeze of the ocean.

Of course, light or neutral colour outfits are ideal for a summer yacht party because they are easy on the eyes. When choosing your clothes for the party, avoid going for dark colours, such as navy blue, dark green or black.

Ideally, go for preppy, stylish or smart casual outfits so that you don’t look untidy or sloppy. Brown, white, tan or blue with green, yellow and red dashes are perfect colours for summer parties. You can also opt for pastel colours that will make you look stylish and summer-ready. Of course, long and flowy summer dresses are also excellent for summer parties.

Needless to say, carry sunscreen with SPF 40 and a lip balm to avoid UV radiation.

2. Pack Extra Clothing For Winter Boat Parties

Although it seems confusing, dressing for a winter boat party is actually simple. Ideally, we suggest wearing solid colours such as black, royal blue, red, burgundy, navy blue and so on. That’s because they look phenomenal and can get away with layering too.

Also, make sure you pack some extra clothing such as a sweater, cap, and mufflers to ensure a pleasant and comfortable experience.

3. Go For Comfortable Outfits For Dinner Parties

Confused about whether to go for an all-white jumpsuit pairing it with some cool accessories or a long grey dress with metallic hand bands? Of course, when choosing the best outfit for yacht dinner parties, confusion is bound to happen, especially if you’re a newbie to such events.

As a rule of thumb, go for anything fancy and stylish without compromising comfort. That’s because you wouldn’t want to ruin the look by wearing something that makes you uneasy.

One thing to keep in mind is that you should not go for anything too short such as bikinis or boardshorts, because they aren’t ideal for yacht parties.

Dress Ideas For Women For A Yacht Party

When choosing an outfit for a yacht boat party, going for short dresses is not advisable. So, make sure you don’t wear your clubbing dress to the party; rather, opt for knee-length cocktail attire.

Speaking of colours, solid colours are your best bet, so consider going for solid black, grey, purple, sea blue and so on. However, if you cannot decide which colour to go for, opt for a solid black outfit, and you’ll be good to go. Not only are black outfits stylish, but they also make you look glamorous and classy.

Besides clothes, you must also pay attention to your footwear because they can make or break the overall look. While you may be tempted to wear high heels to flaunt your toned calves, we suggest opting for comfy loafers or flats to avoid slipping on the deck. You can also wear ballet pumps or sandals that complement your outfit.

For hair, you can opt for either romantic windswept waves or a soft updo to spruce up your overall look.

When it comes to accessories, go easy with them by wearing cute pieces such as pendants, cute studs, hoops, rings and so on to make a bold statement. And instead of handbags, carrying a clutch will add elegance to your look.

Men’s Clothing Ideas For A Yacht Party

For yacht party outfits, wearing country club casual such as Oxford and Polo shirts is considered excellent for men. And you can wear customised slacks of khaki, brown or black colour to pull off a classy look.

If you’re attending a yacht party during the winter season, don’t forget to carry a sweater or a blazer to keep yourself safe from the biting cold. And the best way to carry them is to tie them around your shoulder, so you won’t have to take any extra baggage. Also, don’t forget to wear loafers and matching belts to complete the look.

Things To Avoid Wearing To A Yacht Party

  • Super-short miniskirts, baggy t-shirts, denim, wrinkled or creased clothes, and flip flops are a big no-no.
  • Don’t wear revealing clothes
  • Avoid wearing stilettos

Summing It Up

On that note, it’s finally time to wrap our guide.

Whether you’re going to a business party or a close friend’s anniversary celebration, choosing the right clothing that is stylish yet comfortable is important. Also, make sure you choose the colours and the style as per the theme of the party and, of course, the season.

Moreover, there are plenty of companies that lease yachts to people who wish to host parties and celebrate their moments away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

So, book a Sydney boat hire  today to enjoy the luxurious experience that a sailing yacht or a paddle boat hire (Sydney) offers. And that’s it for today.

Adios!

What to Wear at a Yacht Club for Lunch – Your Ultimate Guide!

What to wear at a yacht club for lunch

Heading to a yacht club for lunch can be an exciting experience, offering you the chance to relax and dine in an exquisite setting.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular attendee, choosing the proper attire is essential to ensure you fit in and feel comfortable.

This article will explore some of the best apparel choices to keep you looking stylish and appropriate for lunch at a yacht club.

Yacht clubs often uphold a certain level of elegance, but there’s no need to feel intimidated when selecting your outfit.

The key is to find a balance between being well-dressed and enjoying the casual ambiance. So here we go; below, you’ll find everything you need to know on what to wear at a yacht club for lunch.

Table of Contents

Yacht Club Dress Codes

Understanding dress codes.

When attending a lunch at a yacht club, it’s essential to understand the dress code beforehand. Yacht clubs typically have varying dress requirements depending on the event and time of day.

For a lunch event, you’ll most likely encounter a more casual dress code. It’s best to familiarize yourself with the club’s specific guidelines and adhere to them.

Common Yacht Club Dress Codes

At most yacht clubs, there are a few general rules to follow when dressing for lunch:

  • Shirts:  Opt for collared shirts like a classic polo or button-down. Avoid wearing tank tops or T-shirts.
  • Bottoms:  Choose comfortable and well-tailored pants, such as chinos or slacks. Shorts may be acceptable, but ensure they are a reasonable length and not too casual or distressed.
  • Footwear:  Wear closed-toe shoes like loafers or boat shoes. Don’t wear flip-flops. Yacht clubs don’t allow it.
  • Tops:  Select a blouse or a nice polished yet comfortable top. Avoid wearing strapless, revealing, or overly casual tops.
  • Bottoms:  Choose tailored pants, skirts, or dresses that are appropriate in length and style. Shorts are generally discouraged, although some yacht clubs may permit them if they are dressy and tailored.
  • Footwear:  Opt for comfortable and stylish footwear like flats, wedges, or sandals. The same as men, don’t wear flip-flops.

Lunch Clothing Options for Men

Formal attire.

When attending a yacht club for lunch and dressing in formal attire, opt for a classic combination of a crisp collared shirt, slacks, or chinos.

Ties are typically not necessary, but if you want to elevate your look, feel free to include one.

Light colors like white or pale blues are perfect for a summery vibe. Finish your outfit with comfortable loafers or boating shoes for a polished appearance.

Casual Attire

If you prefer a more casual approach, your options expand to include versatile pieces like polo shirts, t-shirts, or even tank tops, as long as they’re not too skimpy. Pair your top with boat shorts or loose pants to ensure comfort and a laid-back aesthetic.

Footwear-wise, swap the loafers for a pair of sandals or boat shoes that are easy to slip on and off at the dock.

When dressing for a yacht club lunch, keep it simple and remember that your comfort is key.

Choose lightweight and breathable fabrics, such as cotton and linen, to ensure you remain cool and stylish while enjoying the sea breeze.

Lunch Clothing Options for Women

Dresses and skirts.

When choosing a dress or skirt for lunch at a yacht club, opt for lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton. Go for knee-length or midi dresses in soft, flowy fabrics that provide comfort and style. A linen dress is a classic option. If you’re leaning more toward skirts, choose one that matches the dress code of the yacht club while still making you feel fashionable and comfortable.

Blouses and Pants

Lunch at a yacht club gives you the opportunity to experiment with different styles of blouses. Cotton and linen are the perfect materials for a summer blouse, providing a casual yet sophisticated look.

Pair your blouse with pants that are comfortable for the yacht setting, like tailored linen pants. Avoid overly tight or restrictive clothing. If you prefer jeans, opt for a dark wash to maintain a polished appearance.

Footwear Suggestions

Men’s footwear.

When it comes to men’s footwear at a yacht club for lunch, you’ll want to focus on practicality and style.

It’s important to wear  non-slip and non-marking outsole shoes to avoid slipping or marking the deck in case you get on board a boat.

Boat shoes are a popular and comfortable choice, offering a fashionable look while being yacht-appropriate.

If you prefer sandals, opt for sturdy ones that provide support and grip. Just remember, some boat owners may require you to leave your shoes on the dock before getting on board a yacht.

So you might want to have an alternative footwear option handy. Lastly, look for shoes with  white outsoles , as they don’t mark the deck, keeping the yacht clean and pristine.

Women’s Footwear

For women, the same basic principles apply. Make sure you choose shoes with a  non-slip and non-marking outsole  to avoid any accidents. Boat shoes and sturdy sandals are both fantastic options for combining style and practicality.

If your lunch takes place on a boat, don’t wear high heels , as they can be dangerous and may damage the deck. As mentioned above, you might be asked to leave your shoes on the dock, so having a backup pair is a good idea.

As with men’s footwear, opting for  white outsoles  ensures you won’t leave any marks on the boat, allowing you to focus on enjoying your lunch at the yacht club.

Accessorizing Your Outfit

When choosing jewelry for a yacht club lunch, aim for elegant but understated pieces. Stick to delicate necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, avoiding anything too flashy or clunky. For example, a simple gold or silver pendant can add the right touch of class without being over the top. Remember, you’re attending a lunch event, so keep your choices on the more casual side.

Hats and Sunglasses

Something that most yacht clubs forbid is wearing a hat inside the building.

This rule applies to both men and women. So if you plan to have lunch at the yacht club’s restaurant, you can’t wear a hat unless you sit on the yacht deck or on a balcony.

However, suppose you are allowed to wear one outside; opt for hats with wide brims or classic Panama hats to shield your face from the sun’s rays.

Sunglasses are another essential for a daytime event like a yacht club lunch. Look for pairs that offer full UV protection and complement your outfit. Classic shapes like aviators or wayfarers are versatile and timeless choices.

Just make sure your sunglasses don’t clash with your hat, and you’ll be well on your way to a perfectly accessorized outfit for a yacht club lunch.

Considering the Weather

When planning your outfit for a yacht club lunch, it’s important to consider the weather. In warmer temperatures, opt for light, breathable fabrics like linen or cotton.

A short-sleeved polo shirt or a blouse is an excellent choice for staying cool and comfortable. Women can also wear light sundresses or shorts with a tank top that isn’t too revealing.

In cooler or unpredictable weather, layering is key. Start with a collared shirt or a light blouse, and add a sweater or light jacket if needed.

Don’t forget to bring an umbrella or a water-resistant coat if there’s a chance of rain, and always have a pair of sunglasses on hand for those unexpectedly sunny moments.

When choosing your footwear, remember that you may be walking on wet surfaces or spending time outside. Avoid flip-flops and opt for non-slipping boating shoes , like Sperry, that offer both style and functionality. These shoes come in numerous styles, making it easy to find the perfect match for your outfit.

What to Avoid Wearing

When heading to a yacht club for lunch, there are a few fashion faux pas you should be mindful of. Remember, yacht clubs have a certain level of sophistication, and dressing appropriately is crucial.

First and foremost, avoid wearing any torn, stained, or worn clothing. Clothes with rips, holes, missing buttons, and stubborn stains are not suitable for the yacht club setting. Your outfit should be clean, well-maintained, and presentable.

As tempting as it may be to flaunt your summer style, steer clear of revealing clothing. Avoid items like denim shorts, tank tops, mini skirts, and cut-off shirts. Instead, opt for more modest attire that allows you to stay cool and look chic.

While you may love your comfortable flip-flops or sneakers, it’s not allowed to wear them to a yacht club lunch. These casual footwear options can come across as too casual and out of place. Instead, choose shoes that are stylish and comfortable but more refined.

Additionally, leave your baseball caps and other hats at home. Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue, so it’s best to stick to this etiquette and keep the caps for actual sailing excursions.

Lastly, avoid dressing too casually with clothing like wrinkled or sloppy attire. Yacht club lunches often have a semi-formal or smart casual dress code, so make sure your outfit is polished and well-balanced between casual and formal elements.

Questions People Forten Ask

Q: What is the typical dress code for a yacht club lunch?

Yacht clubs often have a more relaxed dress code during lunchtime. Stylish casual wear, including clean, neat jeans and shorts, is usually acceptable. However, it’s always a good idea to check with the specific yacht club for their dress code guidelines.

Q: How formal should my attire be for a yacht club lunch?

Although the attire for a yacht club lunch is less formal than dinner, you should still aim to look polished and presentable. Opt for refined and comfortable clothing, such as dressy shorts, skirts, or pants paired with an elegant top. You may also want to consider wearing a light blazer to elevate your look.

Q: Are there any specific clothing items to avoid at a yacht club?

When attending a yacht club event, it is best to avoid overly casual clothing items, such as flip-flops, athletic wear, or torn clothing. It’s also recommended to leave the denim at home when attending a yacht club dinner, as mentioned in The Sailor ‘s Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club. Different areas of the club may have specific dress rules, so it’s always good to inquire ahead of time.

Q: How does a daytime yacht club event differ in dress code?

Daytime events at yacht clubs tend to have a more relaxed dress code compared to evening events. For day events, it is appropriate to wear casual yet polished clothing like shorts, skirts, and light dresses. However, as the sun sets and nighttime events begin, expect the dress code to become more formal, often requiring sports coats or cocktail attire.

Q: Do yacht clubs have a specific dress code to follow when dining?

Yacht clubs usually have a more formal dress code for dining, especially during dinner. In most cases, sports coats are expected, and denim should be avoided. For ladies, sophisticated dresses or skirts with elegant tops are appropriate. Check with the yacht club you are attending to ensure you follow their specific rules and guidelines for dining attire.

Final Words!

Now that you have an idea of the appropriate attire, you’re set to enjoy a delightful lunch at the yacht club. Dress to impress, adhere to the dress code, and don’t forget to indulge in the delicious food and beautiful views the club has to offer.

What a beautiful website! This “how-to” type post was very informative about how to dress if you are having lunch at a yacht club. There are many practical suggestions that will make a first time visitor feel comfortable. This article provides all one needs to know about proper dress etiquette for yacht clubs in general.  Yacht clubs promote boating and cruising, and provide social meeting place for the boating community. Do you have to own a boat or sea vessel to join a yacht club? Do yacht clubs screen potential members financial standing or backgrounds before they are accepted? Do potential members have to be sponsored by a member of the yacht club to join? All I need now is to be invited to lunch at our local yacht club. I know just what to wear. Thanks.

Thank you for your comment! I am glad to hear that you found my website beautiful and informative, particularly the “how-to” post on dressing for lunch at a yacht club. I strive to provide practical suggestions that will make first-time visitors feel comfortable and confident in any setting. As for your questions about yacht clubs, boat owners are not always required to join, and some clubs do screen potential members based on financial standing or background. From Cocktail to Smart Casual – Here’s What to Wear to Any Party!

' src=

If you’re stuck on what to wear, we’ve got you covered with our guide to dress codes – from black tie to business and more!

It’s party season, which means that invitations are coming at you left, right and centre. It’s an exciting time to be alive, until that age-old question pops into your mind: what do I wear? We’ve all been there. A huge closet, overflowing with clothes, but nothing is quite right. Then, of course, you have the dress code to worry about.

Today, hosts are more creative (and more demanding) when it comes to party attire. They want their party to be a hit, and you want to stand out in the crowd. But what does ‘elegant casual’, ‘festive black-tie optional’ and ‘come as you are’ even mean?

Thankfully, we’ve partnered with Myer to help Australians decipher these dress codes as the festive and partying season is upon us – helping you make an entrance with an in-style , head-turning and, most importantly, on-point look.

What to Wear to a White Tie Dress Code Event:

A white tie dress code is the fanciest of them all; so if you are lucky enough to be invited to such an event, get ready to pull out all the stops. Think red carpet attire – this is your opportunity to show off your most extravagant look.

A white tie dress code means a full-length evening gown is an absolute must, but be sure to keep it tasteful and elegant. Certainly don’t hold back on having your princess moment if your heart does so desire.

What to Wear to a Black Tie Dress Code Event:

A slight step down, when it comes to a black tie dress code, it is all about elegance. Opt for a gown that is tea- or floor-length and, of course, made from luxurious fabrics. Traditionally, black tie calls for a black outfit, however this has evolved over time.

Today, more colour is appearing at black tie events, however you also can’t go wrong with a darker, monochrome outfit. Consider deep reds, emerald, navy or, if you prefer colour, keep the print to a minimum. Pair your gown with bolder accessories, such as drop earrings, a statement necklace or even some standout heels.

What to Wear to a Black Tie Optional (or Formal) Dress Code Event:

If an invitation dress code reads ‘optional’ or ‘preferred’, it means that the host is stating their preferred dress code, however will allow for some flexibility. In terms of hemlines, tea- and floor-length is still preferred, but it is still optional – so you will likely see some more midi and knee-length dresses at these events.

This dress code for a black tie optional event also offers some more room to play with colour. Opt for bright and bold accessories to pair with a monochromatic dress, or feel free to introduce sophisticated prints and textures. You can definitely have more fun with an optional black tie, but be sure to keep it elegant nonetheless.

What to Wear to a Cocktail Dress Code Event:

As we delve into cocktail dress codes, we open the door a little wider for individual style. Here, you can branch out with your colours, prints and textures while also playing with more experimental silhouettes. For example, a stylish two-piece or co-ord set, or a fun puffy sleeve moment.

In terms of length, a short dress or matching skirt-and-top set  is certainly on the cards – providing it is no shorter than two inches above the knee (we still want to keep things classy here). An elegant midi is also perfect for a cocktail event. No matter your outfit, it must be completed with some stylish footwear and a statement clutch.

What to Wear to a Festive Dress Code Event:

For festive attire, think vibrant colours, bold jewellery and sparkles! Seriously, don’t hold back on the bling with a festive dress code. This is a great opportunity to break out your statement costume jewellery and diamante encrusted heels. Pair these with a bright coloured cocktail dress or two-piece – we’re talking along the lines of electric blues, blazing oranges and vivid magentas.

If you opt for a fun patterned outfit, pair it with some bold coloured heels to bring out a highlight colour in your print. As long as you keep your look elegant, you can really experiment and have fun with a festive dress code.

What to Wear to a Business Dress Code Event:

When it comes to business dress codes, it’s all about taking your classic work-day look and giving it some extra pizazz – it’s elevated work wear. We still want to keep neutral colours, toned-down prints and basic silhouettes, while adding and switching out certain elements to make your look a little more event-esque.

Elevating your workwear can be as simple as swapping out your flats for pumps, pairing your tailored trousers with a bold coloured blouse, or sprucing up your sheath dress with some statement jewellery. Of course your boss-lady pant-suit is perfect here. Think simple yet classy, and be sure to keep your hemlines at the knee and your necklines conservative.

What to Wear to a Smart Casual (or Dressy Casual) Dress Code Event:

Ladies, get excited, because smart casual means it’s time to whip out your go-to jeans and a nice top combo. Essentially, smart casual is all about items you can dress-up and dress-down. Think denim paired with costume jewellery, ornate shoes and sophisticated outerwear.

During the day, have fun with flowy florals, fun prints and bright colours. For example, your favourite summer dress can be elevated with some cute heeled sandals and gold hoops.

In the evening, smart casual can be a bit more adventurous with a trendy jumpsuit, bold print bottoms or an edgy blazer and jeans combo. Of course, don’t forget a bold makeup look to really bring your outfit together.

As for the more confusing dress-codes, such as casual chic or resort casual, the general rule of thumb is to put some extra effort into your everyday look. Better to look overdressed than not having put any effort in at all!

Miss Shop. Tie Back Tiered Mini Dress Malibu Splice. Image supplied.

What to Wear to a ‘Come As You Are’ Dress Code Event:

When asked to come as you are, it essentially means casual. You’re free to wear what you would in your everyday life. It’s a chance to have some fun and show off your unique style. White trainers or Converse shoes are totally fine. Please note, this does not apply to gym gear – save that for your daily errands and actual workouts.

What to Wear when there is No Dress Code?

When no dress code is detailed on the invitation, consider the kind of event it is. For example, weddings are almost always cocktail or formal, business attire is most appropriate for any kind of work event, and if it’s a backyard party, you’d be more than safe in smart casual or to come as you are. If you are feeling completely left in the dark, simply ask the host and they will happily point you in the right direction.

No matter the dress code, make sure your outfit is something that you love and feel comfortable in. Whether you prefer patterns or bright colours, stick to your own personal style and feel confident in your outfit!

Dressing casual in a well-heeled environment can be tricky. However, with a little planning and some fashion know-how it's easy to look sharp and while remaining appropriate for the setting, including yacht club casual dress.

Know What to Avoid

jeans on shelves in a clothing store

Rules vary from one yacht club to the next, so feel free to the check the club's official website or give them a call to ask questions about their specific rules. However, most yacht clubs bar attendees from wearing jeans (with certain exceptions) and certainly ratty or torn ones; some might allow members to wear nice denim for special occasions or in select areas of the club. T-shirts (like those for a sports team or school), sneakers and shorts are also commonly seen on the list of banned items.

Stick to "Smart Casual"

Shopping woman trying clothes

Smart casual dress is just what it sounds like--relaxed and casual, but with a nod toward style and looking good, not sloppy and overly relaxed. A member of the smart crowd is elegant, sophisticated and fashionable...in essence, smart casual means that you dress professionally, but you are relaxed. It is a middle ground between strict business or formal wear and street clothes."

Men's Fashion

Men adhering to a smart casual code should wear a collared shirt, but don't need to add a necktie. Khakis or similar slacks (ironed, of course) can take the place of jeans and are just about as comfortable. A polo shirt or plaid button-up will look good and align with yacht club standards. Accessorize with a leather belt and shoes.

Women's Clothes

Women should lean toward nice dresses which are classy and stylish, but not overly provocative; avoid cleavage-revealing, tight attire that would be more suited to a flashy nightspot than the proper environs of a yacht club. Women may also wear slacks with a nice top--perhaps a lightweight sweater in the spring or a collared, knit polo in the summer. Avoid sneakers and use a few accessories to tie the outfit together, like a silk scarf or a nice bracelet.

Children and Other Circumstances

Portrait of girl with mother holding flower bouquet, white background, differential focus

Consult with a yacht club beforehand if bringing kids. Little ones are usually exempt from dress code rules, yet it's easy enough to put children into comfortable clothes just this side of dressy. Make sure children's clothes are clean, free of holes and stains and that their hair is well-groomed. For adults wanting to really dress down, check to see if the yacht club has a day for "porthole casual," during which jeans and tees are acceptable, but even then, make sure clothes are clean and well-fitted.
