New Pichiotti Gentleman's Yacht

The Italian Sea Group is making the leap from custom yacht builds to serial production with the rebirth of the storied Picchiotti brand, announced just six months after its acquisition. The first Picchiotti production boat is due for delivery in the summer of 2024, with a further 15 units said to be in the pipeline.

The Italy-based yacht conglomerate, which recently launched the Admiral Kensho and the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 , made big news when it acquired Perini Navi and Picchiotti last December for about $82 million. Perini Navi was the big catch since it’s considered royalty in the sailing yacht world.

Picchiotti had been the former owner’s motoryacht brand, and although the superyacht designs were elegant and modern—especially for a name dating back to 1575—they built only a handful before the company went into bankruptcy in 2019.

The latest reincarnation of Picchiotti will mark another sea change for the brand. The Italian Sea Group tapped Florence-based designer Luca Dini to retrace Picchiotti’s historical style with a new fleet of serial production yachts, ranging from 78 to 180 feet in length. They have been nicknamed the “Gentleman” yachts, and are inspired by the silhouette of American yachts of the ’60s. The intention is to pair classic lines with new technology and engineering.

“This new line, clearly inspired by the golden age of post-war yachting, immediately conquered me because it recalls historical models such as the Giglio Series or the Mistral Series by Picchiotti,” said Giovanni Costantino, founder and CEO of The Italian Sea Group, in a statement. “I am very proud to give a new voice to a brand that represents the heritage of the entire nautical industry—one of the oldest shipyards in the world.”

Dini added: “It is a project dedicated to those owners who want to stand out but are also well acquainted with tradition and the concept of gentleman yachts.”

In more recent times, Picchiotti is best known for building the 338-foot motoryacht Al Said , one of the largest yachts in the world at the time of its delivery in 1982. The company went on to build the award-winning 164-foot explorer Exuma and 239-foot Grace E.

The new Picchiotti fleet will be aluminum, with a hull designed for increased efficiency. The builder is also offering the option of hybrid propulsion or fully electric engines. A thoroughly modern beach club and tender that matches the mothership will also be part of the new package.

Picchiotti 24m Gentleman yacht render

Picchiotti reveals first renders of new in-build Gentleman line

Picchiotti , a brand of The Italian Sea Group (TISG), has revealed the first renderings of its new line of Gentleman yachts designed to celebrate the “golden age of yachting”, according to TISG founder and CEO Giovanni Costantino.

Measuring between 24 to 55 metres in length, the line was first introduced in July 2022 and the first hull in the series, a 24-metre, has already completed the welding phase and is on track for delivery in 2024.

The new yacht line has been penned by Luca Dini and his team, with Kurt Lehmann of Yacht Moments providing consultancy. The series is tailored towards “owners who want to stand out, but are also well acquainted with tradition and the concept of gentleman yachts,” according to Dini.

Built in aluminium, the Picchiotti models will have an increased eco focus with an ultra-efficient hull design and the option to include hybrid or full-electric propulsion.

The 24-metre model is the only model in the line that will be available in two slightly modified formats: the traditional "enclosed" stern with unfolding sea terraces and the option of an open aft, which provides a more modern beach club feel.

The new Gentleman line signals the rebirth of Picchiotti, one of Italy's oldest established shipyards. The relaunch came just six months after TISG acquired Picchiotti and sister company Perini Navi. Costantino has commented: “I am very proud to give a new voice to a brand that represents the heritage of the entire nautical industry - one of the oldest shipyards in the world."

Across its four new-build yards, TISG has 17 projects under construction, according to BOATPro .

picchiotti yacht

The Picchiotti shipyard was originally founded in 1600 for the construction of commercial and military vessels. Over the centuries, the yard helped to pioneer the concept of the recreational motor boat and also became known for its luxury yachts.

Acquired by the Perini Navi Group in the early 1990’s, today Picchiotti is the motor yacht division of this notable Italian shipyard that’s perhaps best known for its sailing superyachts. Located in La Spezia, Italy, since 2010, Picchiotti builds custom and semi-custom motor yachts up to 246-foot (75m).

The Perini Navi Group has a reputation for innovation and the yard seeks to continue its pioneering personality seeking out the latest technology, engineering possibilities and design. Perini Navi has been a global leader in the design and construction of luxury sailing and motor yachts for over 35 years. Today, the Perini Navi Group is a crucial part of the Italian yachting industry. The La Spezia shipyard has three 230-foot (70m) hangars and two 164-foot (50m) piers, and is also the site of Perini Navi’s refit and repair department.

History of Picchiotti Yachts

Since the 1600’s Picchiotti has been constructing commercial and military vessels, originally operating out of Limite sull’Arno in Italy.

In addition to these commercial and military vessels, Picchiotti gained a growing reputation as a luxury yacht builder, and helped to pioneer the concept of recreational motor boats.

Picchiotti was acquired by the Perini Navi Group in the early 1990’s, enabling the sailing superyacht brand to offer motor yacht builds. Perini Navi itself was founded in 1983 by Fabio Perini, who pioneered automation and furling systems in large sailing yachts

In 2007, Perini Navi relaunched the Picchiotti shipyard and presented a series of new luxury motor yachts, designed in a collaboration between the naval architect Philippe Briand and Vitruvius Ltd, and marketed under the Picchiotti Vitruvius brand name.

In May 2017, Perini Group founder and CEO Fabio Perini opened the share capital of Perini Navi to a new investor. In came Fenix Srl, the holding company of Italy’s Tabacchi family, and this paved the way for many strategic developments. In order to grow the status of the Perini Navi name and its market share, the group’s two brands were merged into one. The motor yachts which were previously built under the Picchiotti header are now sold, built and operated under the same Perini Navi emblem as their sailing sisters.

Picchiotti has been located in La Spezia, Italy, since 2010.

The Picchiotti collection

The Perini Navi Group specialises in the design and construction of superyachts in aluminium and steel, as well as refit and service work.

Quality lies at the core of the brand’s philosophy. Vessels are built to the highest standards and are known to be extremely seaworthy.

The Picchiotti motor yachts are intended as go-anywhere passagemakers, capable of roaming the world for weeks at a time. Described by the group as ‘rugged and reliable’, they are engineered to perform as long-range explorers in perfect harmony with the marine environment.

One of Picchiotti’s most notable builds came in 2010, in the guise of 164-foot (50m) EXUMA. This yacht was built in aluminum and features a dramatic exterior styling that won her several awards.EXUMA has a top speed of 16 knots and superyacht has a cruising range of 4,500nm at an economical 12-knot cruising speed. EXUMA accommodates up to nine guests along with a complement of nine crew members.

The yard’s flagship remains the 240-foot (73m) GRACE E. This steel-hulled superyacht was delivered in 2014 and was also designed by Philippe Briand. GRACE E has an impressive 7,500nm range and burns 15 percent less fuel than comparable diesel-powered yachts. GRACE E (now named Nautilus) has an interior by Remi Tessier.
