"Whether it’s wiring or plumbing, pipe fitting or painting, finishing or wiring, Feadship has the finest compilation of artists that I could find on my journey of discovery among the superyachts that exist today. It is all the small things that they do, the time they take to do what they do, and the extra effort that they take to make every corner, nook and cranny look great. - Review by the Owner who commissioned yacht ROCK.IT" (hull 687).

Mirage - Yacht for Charter

From €200,000 EUR

  • Builder Feadship
  • Length 53.01m (174ft)
  • Year 1979 / 2016

A 53-metre Feadship that combines the charm of a classic luxury superyacht with modern, charter-friendly amenities.

For the eco-conscious, the MIRAGE yacht has an onboard carbon offsetting programme to offer greener cruising.

Interior Design & Engineering

First launched in 1979, this Feadship-built yacht underwent a three-year refit and won Best Refitted Yacht at the 2016 World Superyacht Awards.

The interior of the MIRAGE yacht, by Design Unlimited, is monochromatic. It features a background of dark wenge wood and lighter panelling on the walls, contrasted by white furnishings and doors framed in wenge with silk panels.

Your MIRAGE yacht charter can accommodate 12 guests across eight en suite cabins. Each has its own artistic theme, ranging from cubism, surrealism and pop art to expressionism and suprematism, and is bestowed with paintings in each style.

The full-beam owner’s suite and the VIP are both located on the main deck forward and offer superb views through their side windows. The rest of the accommodation lies on the lower deck and comprises four twins and two doubles.

If safely moored to the quay, a static MIRAGE yacht charter can sleep up to 20 guests.

Yacht Facilities & Entertainment

There’s a chic sky lounge on the upper deck of the MIRAGE yacht, where you can watch something on the wide-screen television or enjoy a drink at the wet bar. Sliding glass doors open straight onto the sun deck, where you’ll find a new gym space with plenty of equipment—and a fitness instructor on staff to help with your routine. When you’re ready to rest, head to the spa pool for a dip and then lay across the surrounding sun pads for a spot of sunbathing. With a masseuse/beauty therapist on board, there’s plenty of time to get pampered.

There are plenty of places to entertain on the MIRAGE motor yacht. The formal dining room is the perfect spot to luxuriate over a delicious dinner, while the al fresco dining area on the aft deck is well-suited to more relaxed meals. You can nurse a drink while you relax in the main salon or in the shade of the awning on the upper deck.

Toys & Crew

A crew of 13 will deliver an exceptional MIRAGE yacht charter.

The yacht’s status as an approved RYA water sports centre means you can learn how to use a wide range of water toys safely. With a scuba diving and kiteboarding instructor in the crew, you can pick up new passions in no time.

You’ll have lots of toys to choose from, including wake surfers and skates, laser dinghies, and a collection of towables. There’s also snorkelling and scuba diving gear available for anyone who wants to explore below the waterline.

Boat Review: Mirage 61

  • By Dean Travis Clarke
  • Updated: June 30, 2005

It doesn’t claim the usual ancestry of so many offshore fishing boats, e.g., charter captain starts boatbuilding company or boat owner starts company so he can write off his yacht. Rather, Mirage Powerboats started life in 1975 when two former employees of the Cigarette Racing Team left and began construction of their own 29-foot speedboat.

They fared well on the racing end but not in business. In 1997 Mike Hatami purchased the assets of the company and, along with one of the founders, reopened Mirage Powerboats.

The new company started life with an all-new 40-foot speedboat based on the legendary 41-foot Apache. Remarkably, this new model proved an instant success. The acquisition of the Super Hawaii and Midnight Express companies quickly provided greater market share. Numerous other sizes rapidly followed, all successful.

But just as most boat owners want to continuously trade up in size, so, too, did Mirage. The company decided to apply the same rigorous standards and technology used in their go-fast boats to larger models and enter the sportfishing and yacht markets.

My grandfather told me that it’s OK not to know something as long as you know someone who does. And Mirage made a good move when it signed renowned naval architect David Napier to draw the lines of the new Mirage 40. Napier earned his unblemished reputation by designing every Bertram between 1971 and 1997, the latest Cabo 43 Flybridge and a host of others.

The 40 enjoyed instant popularity – enough so that Napier now has a 48 and a 61 on the drawing board. Thanks to the prop-pocket design, Mirage expects the 61 to be a very fast boat that draws less than 5 feet of water.

Mirage took a fairly bold leap into advanced technology by using a new fiberglass product called 3-tex ( www.3tex.com ). This three-dimensional material takes the place of multiple layers of fiberglass with chopped strand between the layers, providing significant weight savings without sacrificing strength. Mirage also bonds hulls, decks, stringers, bulkheads and partitions. In addition, all interior elements such as furniture, cabinetry, floors, bulkheads, etc. consist of honeycomb composite materials that also get bonded into the boat where it all becomes a monocoque, or one-piece structure. And of course, for longevity’s sake, Mirage uses only vinylester resin to prevent any water intrusion in the laminate and subsequent osmotic blistering.

SPECIFICATIONS LOA 61’0″ BEAM 17’0″ DRAFT 4’8″ WEIGHT 81,000 pounds FUEL 1,800 gallons WATER 250 gallons POWER T 1,675-hp Cat 32 diesels BASE PRICE $2,200,000 Mirage Yacht, LLC Miami, Florida 954-462-5527 www.mirageyachts.com

At 81,000 pounds, the Mirage 61 falls right in the median-weight range of available 61-footers, but with its thoroughbred history, you can bet it’ll be one of the fastest. Napier designed some of the world’s greatest sportfishing hulls, and Mirage is banking on its new 61 to join those rarified ranks.

Mirage Yachts Ltd. was formed in February of 1972 by Dick and Irene Steffen, for the purpose of building the Mirage 24 designed by C&C. Up until this point they had owned a large volume C&C dealership in Point Claire, Quebec. At the time C&C did not build any model smaller than the 27. Dick was a very keen racing sailor and wanted a smaller MORC boat to both sail and sell from his retail dealership. At his request the C&C had designed a 24 footer, but C&C decided not to built it. Steffen then bought the design and set up his own shop on the second floor of a rented building in Point Claire, Que to build it. Sales of the 24 were gratifying and eventually 15 workers were busily turning out new Mirage 24’s. A lot of the reason for its success was based on its racing record in MORC class racing. Fifteen years after its introduction, a Mirage 24 placed #1 in the production-built division at the MORC national championships. The Mirage 24 proved so successful that an envious C&C shortly thereafter introduced the C&C 25, quite similar in design to the Mirage 24. Nevertheless, the Mirage 24 continued to sell very well and dominated the C&C 25 on the race course. When Dick then approached the C&C design team for a larger model and was turned down, he turned to designer Robert Perry for the new boat. In 1975, the plant was moved to a 12,000 sq. ft facility in nearby Vaudreuil, Que. The Perry designed Mirage 26 (later stretched to a 27) was introduced shortly thereafter. By 1979 the plant had grown to 30,000 sq.ft. with an additional 5,000 sq. ft. spar manufacturing facility in Dorion. Que. In 1983 the plant was again increased to 35,000 sq.ft. to accommodate the new Perry designed Mirage 33/35. The Bob Perry models were highly successful and the core of steady growth at Mirage for over a decade. Eventually the Mirage 26/27 was followed by the Mirage 33/35, the Mirage 30/32 series and the remarkable Mirage 25. Each of these models while remaining at the upper end of the performance scale, established the Mirage as a wholesome family cruiser. In the late 70’s the J/24 became the scourge of the race course. Seeing an opportunity opened by the interest in the J/24, Dick asked his old friend and Laser/International 14 designer, Bruce Kirby to design a new boat in this size range. The Kirby 25 was the result. Soon Kirby 25’s were pounding the PHRF and MORC fleets even worse than the J/24 did. When J/Boats introduced the J/30, Mirage unveiled the Kirby 30. which on the water rocketed right by the J. Ironically, J/Boats then introduced the J/29– a boat a whole lot like the Kirby 30. The modified Kirby 30, the Mirage 30SX remains today, a highly competitive PHRF or MORC rocket. In the mid-eighties the “French Invasion,” fueled by an advantageous exchange rate, amd minimal import duties was in full swing in North America, lead by Beneteau, Jeanneau , Elite, and others. The French boats sported avant garde styling and reasonable two stateroom accommodations, even in smaller boats under 35’. Sales of the Perry designed Mirage 30, (generally thought of as a superb sailing boat) were dissapointing. In 1985, Steffen looking to build a replacement model to the aging 27, asked several designers to do preliminaries for a 28 footer with a double aft cabin. The design submitted by Phillippe Harle’s was Steffens choice which became the MIRAGE 29 and was introduced in the spring of 1986. This model was an instant success. About 50 boats were sold before hull #1 hit the water and nearly three hundred were eventually built. The MIRAGE 275 and MIRAGE 39 followed, both also Harle designs. Not long after the introduction of the MIRAGE 39, Mirage Yachts Ltd. was sold to a Montreal investor who very shortly went out of business.

After the success of the original Cheinz design in 2011, Mirage Radio Yachts has recently released the new Cheinz 2.

Mirage Radio Yachts, the IOM ‘Cheinz 2’ is a modification of the original Cheinz that was launched for the IOM Worlds in West Kirby in 2011, a design that performed incredibly well at the championship having been sailed only twice before the event, and never with the small rigs.

\images\cheinz2-1

Differences between the two designs is that he has reduced the sheerline to take away the bulk of the original and reduce windage. The Cheinz 2 has a new fin and rudder with reduced drag. The winch is now under the deck in a new 3D produced mount under a new deck hatch, this has resulted in a centralizing of the weight at the pitching moment. A beneficial result. This has led to there being no need for a deck opening on the foredeck.

The original Cheinz was one of the most popular designs in Australia in the years after its launch and demand for the new Cheinz 2 is strong with five boats already built with the first headed to a new owner in Perth while others will head overseas to the USA, New Zealand & China.

Mirage now offers a number of IOM designs alongside the Cheinz 2 which include the popular Panda (pictured below) which made its debut in China last year and the Nitro design which was recently first & second at the 2019 Nordic Championships sailed by Soren Andresen & Torvald Klem.

Panda

Decided to design a new boat based on ideas I had that incorporated in some of the past designs but also took a slightly different tack.

What has evolved is a design that I think will be something that will suit all conditions but also at its peak in A rig, which in most areas is the rig used most of the time.

Slightly fuller in the bow with rounded sections and the stern is also a bit wider.

It's initiation was in the CCOR regatta in China last month. Soeren Andresen (Den), and myself attended along with Zyvonko Jelicich , Graham Bantock and skippers from Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, as well as the local contingent. Unfortunately the Japanese skippers plans got skuppered by a typhoon, so they could not attend.

With our two boat in parts when I arrived, and working into the night we got Soeren's A and B rig finished and my A rig.

Both boats launched for the first race and they performed well and showed promise. This was later displayed when on the last day Soeren was the leading points scorer. He showed improvement each day. Final result was Soeren in 3rd place and myself in 7th.

The two boats were sold to local skippers after the event and should be the forerunners of a fleet of Panda's in China.

Orders are now being taken for the Panda.

Key Features

  • New fin and rudder
  • Lower freeboard to allow the rig to be placed lower in the boat which aids stability
  • Screw lid pot to contain the receiver and battery. Because of this inclusion the winch is now in front of the mast.
  • Detail improvements include adjustable rudder pushrod
  • Available in a range of 8 colours, 7 being RAL colours and the other is the Team Mirage green as shown on the Nitro in the photos.

  • Plans are now available for the Corbie 5 . A "woodie" IOM for those who like to do their own thing. A set of full size stations printed on two sheets of A4 paper are included in the kit along with a very extensive manual which includes building instructions and tips, a tuning section, and maintenance hints. Also includes a list of suppliers. This manual was as a result of the work of Ian Dundas in the UK who has been a great help in this project. The cost of the kit is $115.00AUD. Laser cut stations can be purchased from a company called SLEC in the UKat an additional cost. This does save a lot of work and is more precise when setting up the building platform. ‘Total Disgrace’: Anger, Frustration as Mass Heating Failures Across Russia Leave Thousands in the Cold

P ODOLSK, Moscow region – Residents throughout Russia affected by unprecedented winter heating outages in recent days have expressed their frustration and urged local authorities to restore heating in their homes.

In Podolsk, a town some 30 kilometers south of the capital Moscow, at least 149,000 residents — nearly half of its population — were left without heating when a heating main burst at a nearby private ammunition plant.

“It’s a total disgrace. There is no heating and no hot water. We have to sleep in sleeping bags,” Yuri, a local resident, told The Moscow Times.

“I have no words to describe how bad the situation is," said Yuri, who declined to provide his surname. "We have had no heating for almost six days."

Heating issues have affected residents in the Moscow region, where temperatures have plunged to as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius in the past week, as well as people in the Far East Primorye region , the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg , Penza , the southern Voronezh and Volgograd regions and more.

In the Tver region, a group of residents filmed an appeal to President Vladimir Putin, saying that they “are freezing from the cold” in the village of Novozavidovsky.

“We're literally being killed by the cold,” a woman in the video said, adding that they have been sending requests to local authorities since September after their houses were connected to a boiler room whose power was reportedly insufficient.

“This is some kind of torture and extermination of the population 100 kilometers from Moscow,” she added.

Residents of the Moscow region town of Elektrostal lit a fire in the street to draw the authorities’ attention to the heating problem.

“It’s impossible to stay in our houses. We're freezing!” a group of women in the video said.

Suffering from subzero temperatures, residents are placing the blame on local authorities and utility services for failing to take necessary precautions and not taking action to resolve the situation.

“We are sending complaints everywhere but no one listens to us. We have portable heaters working in every room, but the temperature inside is still 10 degrees Celsius,” Yelena from Podolsk said.

“There is a clinic and a hospital, as well as kindergartens, where there is no heating. And we have no answers, no assistance, no explanation,” Yelena added.

Podolsk authorities opened temporary heating centers and declared a state of emergency.

Local authorities linked the heating problems to the fact that the town is heated by a boiler plant owned by the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant, a private ammunition factory and one of the largest weapon cartridge production enterprises in the country.

“The facility is under tight security conditions, which limits our ability to oversee winter preparations,” the Moscow region’s Vice Governor Yevgeny Khromushin said last week. “We were unaware of the problem for nearly a day.”

An unidentified Moscow region official and two senior executives at the plant were arrested on suspicion of providing unsafe services, Russia’s Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, said in a statement Tuesday.

Investigators said that Podolsk’s deputy mayor was accused of misusing authority by issuing a readiness certificate for the boiler house at the plant.

In the neighboring Tver region, the authorities opened a criminal case over the laundering of over 84 million rubles ($938,993) in heating bills paid by residents, the Astra Telegram channel reported this week, citing unidentified sources. According to investigators, the heads of the local water intake and boiler house misappropriated the heating payments for personal use.

Reacting to the heating failures, Putin on Tuesday asked Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov to provide heat and electricity to the affected residents.

The outages appear to be the latest effect of several decades of crumbling infrastructure in Russia which have been linked to endemic corruption and mismanagement.

The overall decay of Russia's municipal infrastructure surpassed 70% in 2022, the pro-Kremlin newspaper Izvestia reported .

According to Sergei Pakhomov, head of the State Duma’s Construction, Housing and Utilities Committee, water pipes that were 90 years old or even older were still in use as recently as two years ago in some cases.

Housing, utilities and communal services are a common source of problems for Russians during the winter.

In St. Petersburg, residents regularly complain about extensive ice coverage on city streets and sidewalks, with many people ending up in the hospital over the years due to slipping and falling accidents.

In the Siberian republic of Khakassia, two villages were left without electricity last month due to apparent issues with outdated communication systems.

In the winter of 2020, five people in the Perm region were killed after a pipe burst.

When asked about the latest heating outages, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the problems and linked them to poor municipal infrastructure, saying that people “had to endure a lot of inconvenience in the cold and without electricity.”

"Despite all the titanic efforts to update all housing and communal services systems, there's still a certain part that remains considerably deteriorated. These programs will continue, but it is impossible to update all pipes and all housing and communal services systems in 10-15 years,” Peskov said.

As for now, residents affected by heating issues appear to lack optimism that the problems will be solved efficiently.

"It's been a week since we've had heating, and the temperature in my apartment is around 11 degrees Celsius,” Podolsk resident Lidiya told The Moscow Times.

“Unfortunately, no one knows when it will be repaired,” she added.
