Spain Yachting: When to Go

The Spanish coast and Balearic Islands enjoy a classic Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and mild, sometimes rainy winters. And while it is accessible all year long, summer is prime yachting season in Spain, most notably in July and August. These peak months offer hot, sunny days and mild water temperatures that are perfect for outdoor adventures.

In the shoulder season months of May-June and September, the weather and conditions are excellent for yachting, as well. Temperatures hover in the mid-70s, with steady breezes and moderate swells. The shoulder season also offers a reprieve from the crowds of July and August.

Spain Yacht Charters – Where to Go

Spain yacht charters

The majority of Spain yacht charters cruise the Balearic Islands. Regarded for their golden beaches, glimmering bays, and lively harbors, the Balearics – Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera, and Menorca – are one of Europe’s best destinations for a private yacht charter.

The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca is a stunningly beautiful island, known for its lush, mountainous interior and picturesque seaside villages. Tucked away in the interior, you’ll find countless olive groves, vineyards, and almond groves – a perfect afternoon escape – while the harbors are filled with incredible restaurants, historic Gothic buildings, and excellent shopping.

The most famous of the Balearic Islands, Ibiza is renowned for its vibrant nightlife – the best in all of Europe. Along the streets of Ibiza Town, you’ll find boutique shops, gourmet restaurants, and spas, with Vegas-style clubs around every corner. Spend an afternoon on one of Ibiza’s exclusive beaches, before a night on the town.

Menorca offers a respite from the bustle of the other islands. The entire island is a protected UNESCO nature preserve, offering plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors. Yet, there’s still plenty of history and culture to explore in the island’s charming ports.

Formentera is the smallest of the Balearics, and it’s also one of the most beautiful. Located just a half-hour cruise from Ibiza, Formentera is the perfect getaway for some R&R. Enjoy the island’s splendid beaches, bask in the sun, and enjoy an al fresco lunch in one of Formentera’s quaint plazas.

VAT (Value Added Tax) in Spain

The following VAT laws pertain to private yacht charters in Spanish waters:

  • If a yacht only cruises through Spanish/EU waters, a standard 21% VAT rate will be applied.
  • All yachts must register with the Spanish Government in each region it intends to charter.

Things to See & Do in Spain

Whether you want to savor a glass of sangria while taking in the sunset, or you’d prefer an adventurous hike in the mountains, Spain offers boat rental itineraries full of memorable experiences. A few highlights include:

Explore Historical Sites   All throughout the Balearic Islands you’ll find numerous UNESCO sites and historical landmarks. From the centuries-old battery Dalt Vila in Ibiza, which offers stunning, 360-degree views, to the Roman ruins on Mallorca, the islands offer plenty of chances to explore the region’s storied past.

Enjoy World-Class Cuisine From southern Spain to Valencia, Barcelona, and the Balearic Islands, every corner of the country has developed a thriving culinary scene. Its most popular dishes – like paella, gazpacho, and chorizo – are coupled with seductive aromatics, like fresh olive oils and garlic. The result: Vibrant dishes that awaken the palette. Plus, the Balearic Islands are well-known for their seafood. Try the lobster stew, a local favorite, that’s served on every island.

Sample Fine Wine As you taste your way through the country, pair your meals with fine Spanish wines and sangrias. Sangria – the red wine, fruit concoction – originates in southern Spain, and you’ll find numerous variations on this classic cocktail while on charter. Inland, you’ll find centuries-old vineyards producing unique, native-grape blends and vintages. Can Rich de Buscatello in Ibiza is a must-visit, known for its amazing wines and stunning scenery?

Escape into Nature  From the sparkling, aquamarine waters, to the lush peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana range, the islands put on a dazzling display of natural beauty. Menorca, also known as the “Green Island,” is a protected UNESCO reserve, and boasts some of the region’s best-kept landscapes. Yet, you’ll find secluded coves, sparkling coastal bays, and dramatic mountain ranges wherever you go.

Clubbing in Ibiza Ibiza offers the best nightlife in Spain if not all of Europe. Around Playa d’en Bossa near Ibiza Town, you’ll find world-famous clubs like Ushuaia, which draw the biggest names in international DJing. San Antonio – on the island’s western coast – is another must-visit nightlife spot, where you’ll find the so-called “sunset strip,” a collection of open-air clubs and bars that stay open all night.

Explore Historic Villages The Balearic Islands are home to some of Spain’s most historic villages and seaside towns. Alcudia in the north of Mallorca is one you can’t miss. The restored walled city boasts a gorgeous Medieval city center. Spend an afternoon exploring the city’s narrow, winding streets, and be sure to visit the town’s bustling weekly market.

While on a Yacht Charter in Spain…

  • Spend an afternoon exploring the historic Ibiza Town, before a night of clubbing near Platja d’en Bossa beach
  • Climb to the top of El Toro on Menorca and enjoy 360-degree views of the island
  • Enjoy a glass of sangria at a seaside bar in Mallorca
  • Spend a day at the Palma Aquarium, which is home to more than 8,000 marine animals
  • Relax and unwind on one of the Balearics sparkling beaches like Es Trenc
  • Explore the Dalt Vila UNESCO site on Ibiza, which overlooks the old town
  • Tour the cliff-top Far de la Mola Lighthouse on Formentera and catch a scenic sunset

Spain yacht charter

When it comes to spectacular art, architecture, fantastic cuisine, calm cruising grounds, sunny weather, and one of the world's best nightlife scenes, nothing beats a holiday in Spain. With the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Seas on its coastline, it is a yacht charter paradise. In the summer, from April to October, you will witness some of the world's best luxury yachts floating off the waters of Ibiza, Mallorca, Barcelona, and on the sailing haven of the Canary Islands.

How much to charter a yacht in Spain?

With thousands of coastlines and more than 300 sunny days every year, a yacht charter is the ideal way to truly capture Spain's gist and beauty. You can choose from many different types of sizes of boats, from speedboats to catamarans with two cabins, to superyachts with complete luxury amenities. A 156-foot sailboat in Spain can cost around $6,700 for a week's rent, while a 42-foot catamaran with six cabins can cost about $8,500. For a 134-foot luxury yacht, with five cabins, and complete water sports equipment, it can cost around $100,000 for 7 days.

What are the most popular yacht holidays in Spain?

The coastal cities and islands on the Mediterranean side of Spain offer the most popular yacht charter holidays. With turquoise waters, peaceful cruising grounds, sheltered bays, and plenty of charming and exciting islands to explore, Spain is a luxury yacht charter paradise. The Balearic Islands make up Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, and Formentera. Mallorca is famous for its vibrant nightlife, stunning historical architecture, and secluded coves. The island also features quaint fishing villages and charming stone-built villages such as the popular Pollenca.

Ibiza, famous for being a party island destination, is known worldwide for its legendary nightlife. It is home to the world's largest nightclub, the Privilege Ibiza. But aside from its image as Spain's party capital, the island also boasts deserted beaches, calm anchorages, and crystal blue waters perfect for water sports activities. Formentera and Menorca's islands offer a more peaceful atmosphere, fantastic beach clubs, excellent restaurants, and gorgeous sandy beaches. If you want to step away from the buzzing nightlife and crowds of Ibiza, you can take your boat to these islands for some laid back vibe.

The Mediterranean coastal cities of Spain are perfect destinations for cosmopolitan life. You will discover spectacular architecture in Barcelona, particularly of Gaudi's works, who designed the famous Sagrada Familia Catholic Church. The city is the top spot for trendy shops, gourmet restaurants, and art museums. The city of Valencia, also on the coast, is renowned for its famous sailing grounds. Considered to have one of the best waters for yachts in the whole of Europe, it is host to the America's Cup, the world's most important sailing race.

In Costa Del Sol, you will find Sotogrande, also offering excellent sailing conditions, designer shops, and of course, an epic nightlife. And if you want a more rugged and raw natural beauty for a yacht holiday destination, the Canary Islands on the Atlantic Ocean is a hidden gem. It is located approximately 70 miles off the coast of Morocco and features seven main islands, all within a day's cruise. The island group is Spanish territory, and there are excellent marinas, thousands of beaches, and incredible natural scenery.

Where to go on a luxury yacht charter in Spain?

Spain is a luxury yacht charter destination, and you can find plenty of luxury tours on the Mediterranean coast. You can find Port Vell in Barcelona, one of Europe's most famous luxury marinas. You can find the Port Vell Wellness within the marina, which features a spa, a gym with personal trainers, and a Pilates studio. After seven days cruising the Mediterranean, get to drop anchor in this marina and pamper yourself with the 5-star spa only a few steps away from your boat. And with the city only a stroll away, get to explore the Gothic quarter nearby, and indulge yourself in world-class cuisine from any of the ten Michelin-starred restaurants located all over Barcelona.

Known as among the most expensive marinas in the world is the Ibiza Magna. With a prime location, this exclusive marina can host boats up to 60 meters in length. Found on the foot of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dalt Vila, right in the center of the city, its luxury amenities and proximity to the best happenings and best spots on the island make it a true luxury destination. And of course, Costa Del Sol's Puerto Banus is not to be missed. Dubbed as the most expensive marina in Europe, it is one of the world's best known nautical destinations. Located on the suburb of Marbella in Nueva Andalucia, luxury yacht charters will find excellent facilities, shops, and plenty of exciting adventures waiting for you to discover onshore.

Spain is a vibrant, exciting, and spectacular yacht charter destination. With the Mediterranean Sea offering crystal blue waters and excellent sailing conditions for most of the year, a luxury yacht charter hopping from one island and coastal city to another is the best way to immerse yourself in the cosmopolitan and natural beauty of Spain.

Why go sailing in spain.

Charter a yacht in Spain and find out why is this one of the most desirable sailing destinations in the world. It is extremely difficult to beat the diversity of Spain, a relatively small country which is surrounded by one ocean, two different seas and a vast number of diverse cultures, climates, and landscapes. If you’re looking for hot summers, mild winters and rough ocean sailing conditions - Spain is the place to go. However, if you’d like to spend a mild and chilly summer on an atoll, Spain is the best destination for it as well. Even if you want a tropical feel on your sailing holiday, a yacht charter in Spain can offer it too.

Yacht charter in the Mediterranean Coast of Spain offers the opportunity for sailors to discover the Spanish culture at its best, through regions such as Valencia , Catalonia, and the Balearic Islands – Mallorca , Menorca , Ibiza & Formentera. Hop aboard your luxury yacht charter and spend some time in the picturesque and bohemian-like cities and towns of the area: Sitges, Cadaqués, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Peñíscola etc.

Charter a yacht in the unspoilt northern coast of Spain , well known for the best food offer in southern Europe. Its intact green coastal landscapes of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, and the Basque Country can only be matched with the landscapes of much colder places like Ireland and Scotland.

The Canary Islands , archipelago of volcanic origins in the Atlantic are the place to go if you want to run away on your rental yacht from the cold European winter without leaving Europe.

Sailing Conditions in Spain

You can charter a yacht in Spain throughout the entire year . Both spring and autumn are great for sailing the Mediterranean - the weather is great, but you also have the advantage of escaping the big crowds that come to the area as soon as the summer starts. However, summer is the most popular time for chartering a yacht on the Balearic Islands. As well, a right time for yachting in the northern coast of Spain. Be careful, though, the Atlantic Ocean can get a bit rough at any time of the year and you might need to look for a haven in July or August as well.

Spanish Coast

If you want to rent a yacht in Spain during the winter, between November and February, the Canary Islands are the perfect choice. The climate is mainly sunny and warm , with temperatures very rarely going below  18°C all year round. Besides that, the sea temperature is constantly close to 22°C. There are three main types of climates on the Spanish Coast. Mediterranean Coast climate is characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, dry winters. The average temperature in the winter ranges between 5°C and 15°C, while going up to 26°C and 35°C during the yacht charter season. The sea temperature amounts to around 14°C in February and 25°C in August. Northern Spain climate is colder and much rainier, although the summer tends to be mild and sunny. The average temperature in the winter ranges between 5°C and 10°C, and between 15°C and 23°C during the summer, so keep that in mind if you want to charter a boat in Costa Verde. The sea temperature is around 10°C in February and 22°C in August.

Winds and tides.

The Spanish weather is fairly stable, but it can also be prone to winds , creating the perfect sailing conditions for those who want to embark on an adventure by boat. Borrasca is a thunderstorm or violent squall, especially in the Mediterranean and the Northern Part of Spain. It usually comes from NW, W. Chubasco is a rapid and strong downpour, it starts up very quickly but stops in a matter of minutes. It is quite common throughout the country. It doesn’t come from a specific direction.

Spanish Sailing Conditions

Levante is a hot wind from E, NE, that can be especially strong in the Strait of Gibraltar, where the local conditions increase its power and speed. Another SW wind you will feel on your charter yacht in Spain is lebeche . This one coming from the Sahara, bringing elevated temperatures and sand from the desert. In the Canary Islands area, it is also known as calima . Galerna is stormy, hot, and very humid NW wind that arises unexpectedly on the north coast, especially during the summer season. Wind gusts can go up to more than 100 kilometres per hour. Tramontana originated in the French Central Massif and the Pyrenees, it is a N wind that blows strongly over the Balearic Islands and some parts of Catalonia. Sometimes it can reach speeds close to two hundred kilometres per hour.

Normally, the heights of waves in the Mediterranean range between 0.5 and 1.5 m , and very rarely exceed 5 m. However, the Atlantic and Cantabria coasts are a whole different thing. There, waves can easily go beyond 10 meters during the winter. Actually, the biggest wave recorded in Spain was appeared near to Galicia and was 27,81 meters high.

On the Mediterranean Coast, there are practically no tides . The Cantabrian Coast of Spain has a tidal range of 1 meter . On the Atlantic Coast (Galicia, Canary Islands) tidal range can go up to 2,8 m .

You will hardly notice any sea currents on your charter yacht in the Mediterranean, but this changes on the Atlantic side of the Spanish coast. The Galician coast is under the influence of cold currents all year long, but the more east you sail, the warmer water you will get.

Since the 1992 Olympic Games, much of the city has been regenerated including the beaches and public zones with sculptures. Charter guests will find the metro and public transport makes everything accessible from the Olympic Port or OneOcean Port Vell including shopping and restaurants.

212 Yacht’s suggestions for things to see and do in Barcelona :

A luxury yacht charter in the Balearic Islands is a chance to discover unspoilt coves and pretty anchorages, traditional fishing ports, superb restaurants and fantastic nightlife

Private Yacht Charter in the Balearic Islands

The Balearics are one of the most popular cruising and sailing destinations in the Western Mediterranean and offer a contrast from mainland Spain. The main islands of Mallorca (Majorca), Ibiza and Menorca (Minorca) appeal for their differing cultures, scenery and atmospheres for novices or seasoned charterers. Ideal for relaxing getaways or rejuvenating vacations, a luxury yacht charter in the Balearic Islands is a chance to discover unspoilt coves and pretty anchorages, traditional fishing ports, superb restaurants and fantastic nightlife.

Yacht Charter in Mallorca (Majorca)

The largest island in the Balearics archipelago, Mallorca has protected moorings, good shopping and ample facilities for yacht charterers. It is a popular base for day charters to Cabrera Island, a natural park.

The capital city Palma de Mallorca, known simply as Palma is worth exploring – the Gothic cathedral La Seu is magical illuminated at night and there is a diverse range of restaurants and bars from seafood tabernas to tapas restaurants and chic wine bars. Try the establishments on the Paseo Maritimo, dine on fresh seafood at Ca’n Manolo and don’t miss sampling local cuisine such as lomo (pork loin), sobrasada sausages, Mallorcan fish stew or ensaimada (sweet cakes with icing sugar).

Palma harbour has a number of marinas with close proximity to the city. Other ports with high demand are Puerto Portals, where it is well serviced for yachting and the trendy Philippe Starck-designed Port Adriano situated 20 minutes west of Palma. It is an excellent marina with shopping and restaurants. Once ashore, we recommend visiting Deia or enjoying the great outdoors in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Popular for hiking and mountain biking.

While there’s no shortage of beach restaurants, pumping night clubs or lounge bars Ibiza has more than just entertainment for yacht charter guests

Yacht Charter in Ibiza

Ibiza has stunning beaches, great markets and World Heritage-listed sites. But of course it is best known for its nightlife. While there’s no shortage of beach restaurants, pumping night clubs or lounge bars Ibiza has more than just entertainment for yacht charter guests. Walk up to the whitewashed church Puig de Missa for views over Santa Eulalia before stopping for a sundowner at Nikki Beach. Go snorkelling at Cala Xarraca or Punta Galera. Santa Eulalia is good for families, Puerto San Miguel is popular with couples. And if you’re looking for the best parties you should go to Ibiza Town, Playa en Bossa and San Antonio.

We recommend watching the sunset in San Antonio at Cafe Mambo or the famous Cafe del Mar. If you happen to be there in August you’re in for a great time with a fireworks display for the Fiesta of St Bartholomew. Of course, Ibiza is famous for hosting the world’s best DJ’s. So join the crowds at the top superclubs in Ibiza such as Amnesia, Eden, Pacha, Privilege, Space and Ushuaia.

Renting A Boat in Menorca (Minorca)

Quieter than Ibiza or Mallorca, Menorca has postcard-perfect coves rimmed by pine forests, Bronze Age ruins and more beaches than Ibiza and Mallorca combined. As a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve it has stunning natural beauty. And is popular with bird watchers who visit the Albufera wetlands.

The Old Ciutadella has a beautiful cathedral and sandstone mansions. And is also a pretty town to step ashore to dine on caldereta de langosta, the island’s signature dish of lobster casserole. To work off a hearty meal, there are plenty of walking trails along the coastal path ‘Camí de Cavalls.’   Charter guests often book extended itineraries that include Menorca and one of the busier Balearic islands or the Spanish mainland.

You’ll find plenty of places to drop anchor in the clear turquoise water such as Cala Saona or Calo des Mort

Luxury Boat Rental for Formentera and Espalmador

Popular for day charters, Formentera and Espalmador are the definition of escapism. Mostly uninhabited, yachts will find unspoilt beaches (most are naturist). And also enough pleasant locations to go hiking, cycling or bird watching. You’ll find plenty of places to drop anchor in the clear turquoise water such as Cala Saona or Calo des Mort.

Yacht Charter in the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are an archipelago and autonomous community of Spain. Which are located around 100 kilometres from the Moroccan coast. The climate is subtropical and agreeable for most of the year. Even winter is popular (especially New Year holidays in the Canary Islands). Each of the islands has its own character.

Tenerife has diverse beaches, resorts and excellent family-friendly attractions. Such as Siam Park water park and Loro Parque. Outdoor activities vary from hiking in the Teide National Park to canyoning to Jeep safaris or golf. Gran Canaria is known for it’s black lava and white sand beaches and great duty free shopping. Lanzarote has a volcanic landscape where you can go cycling. Or book a guided walk in the Timanfaya National Park. You can also quench your thirst at one of the island’s wineries or the clifftop Mirador del Río bar.  However, the drinks there are somewhat secondary to the amazing panoramic views. Fuerteventura has sandy beaches and is excellent for water sports, particularly scuba diving and windsurfing.

The best time to embark on a boat charter in Malaga is between May and October when the weather is at its warmest and the precipitation levels are low. The hottest averages are in the summer with 28°C in July and August however, it’s still warm enough to swim in the winter! That’s right, Malaga is warm and sunny year-round and if you want to avoid crowds we recommend visiting in May or September. It will be slightly cooler at around 23°C, but you can still go for a swim and you’ll get better deals on Malaga yacht rentals.

What can I see and do while on a yacht charter in Malaga?

There’s a reason that Malaga is one of Spain’s most sought-after sailing destinations—and that’s because there’s so much to see and do! Whether you want a lazy beach day or a cultural excursion, you’ll find what you’re looking for in this spectacular city. Here are some of our favourite activities to add to your Malaga sailing itinerary.

  • Visit the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro castles: These two ancient fortresses sit atop a hill overlooking Malaga city and offer stunning views of the surrounding area. The Alcazaba was built by the Moorish rulers of Spain in the 11th century, while the Gibralfaro was added later on by the Christian king, Alfonso XI. Visitors can explore the remains of both castles, including their extensive gardens and ramparts.
  • Stroll around El Palo: This traditional fishing village is located just east of Malaga city and makes for a pleasant day trip. Wander around the village's narrow streets, stop for some seafood at one of its many restaurants and enjoy views of the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Sail to Isla de Graciosa: Just off the coast of Malaga is Isla de Graciosa, a small island that makes for a great day trip. While on the island you can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of its sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.
  • Visit La Concepción botanical gardens: Located just outside of Malaga city centre, these gardens are home to over 5,000 species of plants and flowers from all over the world.
  • Explore Malaga's Old Town: The Old Town is one of the best places to see in Malaga if you're interested in its history and culture. Walk around its winding streets, visit its museums and churches and soak up views of its beautiful architecture.
  • Take a day trip: Head to nearby destinations like Granada, Seville and Ronda. If you have time, you can even visit Gilbraltar!
  • Soak up the sun on one of Malaga’s beaches: Playa de la Malagueta is a popular spot for sunbathing and swimming, while El Palo is ideal for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Other iconic beaches include Playa de los Locos, El Chorro and La Barrosa.
  • Go scuba diving: Try your luck at El Chorrillo de Marbella. This incredible dive spot is full of vibrant colours from the surrounding coral reef and is home to an abundance of unique species such as moray eels, cuttlefish, crabs and barracudas. For more experienced divers, head over to Cala de Mijas and explore its many underwater caves and tunnels. This spectacular spot offers a great opportunity to observe all kinds of marine life up close, including sea bass, moray eels, octopus and much more. You'll even find some amazing wrecks from World War II!

Should I have a skipper on board my private yacht rental in Malaga?

Our large fleet of yacht rentals in Malaga includes both skippered vessels as well as those without a skipper, so you can find the perfect one for your boat trip. Even if you have a licence to sail we always recommend a skippered vessel for a more relaxing and worry-free holiday. Skippers will handle all of the logistics like docking, anchoring and sailing the vessel so you can spend more time with the ones that you love. The best part about having a skipper present is the fact that they are usually locals, so they can give you recommendations and help you see everything on your travel itinerary, and more.

So, what are you waiting for? Sail in the capable hands of a skipper and allow them to be your private tour guide around Malaga.

What type of boat should I choose for my Malaga yacht rental?

While browsing the Scansail website, you might be wondering which type of boat you should choose for your yacht rental in Malaga, and the answer to this will depend on the amount of time you plan to be out on the water. For a shorter holiday of less than a week, you shouldn’t need more than a RIB or a motorboat, which are usually chartered by the day. A longer holiday of a week or more will require more amenities and accommodations, such as a kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms. Catamarans and yachts are spacious vessels usually rented by the week, perfect for a longer holiday with family and friends. For people who like sailing for sport, we’d recommend a sailboat. If you’re a novice sailor but still want an authentic sailing experience, a skippered sailboat is a fantastic option.

Find the perfect vessel for your sailing trip in Malaga with Scansail, and have the holiday of a lifetime.

Menorca Yacht Charter, Balearic Islands

The Balearic Islands are one of the most popular luxury yacht charter destinations in Spain and the Western Mediterranean where a short cruise will take your from exclusive beach clubs to impressive cities or out into the uninhabited wilds.

The islands are famed amongst Scuba divers for the number of sites available to all skill levels and the cave systems in particular are a satisfying challenge for more advanced divers.

Water toys enthusiasts will also be in their element with the number of beaches both sheltered and exposed to the elements to choose from, and there are ideal places for young families to splash around without the worry of sharp rocks or strong currents.

From built-up cities with winding streets to small settlements along the coast, there are many options for how to spend your holiday and your money; high-end restaurants and delectable cafes are side-by-side with bars, clubs, boutique shops and spas, and Mahon in particular has a tradition of shoe-making for a practical souvenir of your travels.

Skip the crowds and worries over transport and explore Menorca and the other Balearic Islands by luxury yacht, taking with you your water toys, plush accommodation and expert crew who will cater to the group's dietary requirements throughout the trip.

There has never been a better time to visit the Balearic Islands: Since the anchoring regulations for luxury yachts with 12 or more passengers have been lifted in 2019, there is now an even greater selection of sailing yachts and motor yachts to choose from for anchoring overnight in private bays and coves, which were before limited to staying overnight in ports and marinas.

More about this part of Spain

The Balearic Islands first gained popularity as a luxury yachting destination in the mid-20th Century for their enchanting natural beauty and picturesque villages, and for the most part this has remained unchanged away from the party capital of Ibiza Town. Every year, international DJs come to the island to perform at some of the largest parties in the Western Mediterranean, while the beaches on Formentera offer a quick escape back to nature.

The north of Ibiza has a reputation for upscale restaurants and relaxation amongst pine forests and secluded coves, while Mallorca will satisfy culture seekers with UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Gothic Catedral de Mallorca and myriad villas, galleries and museums to while away the hours.

Menorca is very much about taking life as it comes and leaving behind modern distractions... although it's always possible to cruise to a beach club or town for some modern day indulgences and a lively social scene.

Barcelona is only a short cruise away and its international airport makes this an excellent destination to begin or end a Balearic Islands luxury yacht charter: The city is filled with landmarks dating all the way back to Roman times and some of the country's most prestigious artists and architects. When you want to celebrate a special occasion in style, the OneOcean Club in Port Vell is a lavish and sophisticated venue well known in the luxury yacht industry for hosting prestigious regattas.

Menorca yacht Charter Experiences

Menorca's capital of Mahon (known locally as Mao) has a reputation as an open-air museum for the number of forts, churches and ruins that can be spotted as you cruise into port. The city itself has art noveau elements in its architecture as well as 18th century period features left behind from British colonial rule. Cobblestone streets lead to eateries which are towered over by the Santa Maria de Maó church. The Museum of Menorca has comprehensive displays on the settlement history from founding up until modern times, and visitors will have an impressive selection of sculptures and paintings to peruse out of the midday heat.

Spend your afternoon amongst the incredible Menorca beaches making use of your full selection of water toys: Snorkel, kayak and Scuba dive through the clear warm waters and interact with the intriguing local wildlife. North of Mahon is the Parc Natural de s'Albufera des Grau, where Herman's tortoises and eagles can be observed within the park.

Catch your lunch fresh from the sea and have it prepared by your expert on board chef, or visit one of the local vineyards for a wine tasting session in the picturesque countryside.

As evening comes around, make your way to the marvellous beach clubs along the southern side of the island, or cruise to Ciutadella de Menorca for your pick of the nightlife. Ciutadella has plenty of indulgences from spas and top quality restaurants (should you fancy a change from dining on board) to ice cream parlours and other mouth-watering sweets.

During the day, there is the Castillo de Sant Nicolau, Catedral de Santa María de Ciutadella and Museu Municipal de Ciutadella to satisfy culture lovers.

Luxury yacht charter groups have the choice of remaining in port close to the social scene, or sailing off to a quiet anchorage to enjoy starry skies in peace and quiet or for a private party to go long into the night.

Things to Consider:

Yachting seasons & climate:.

Menorca is wonderfully warm from May until October, with the peak summer months of July and August experiencing an average of 29°C/84°F. June is the driest month and rainfall throughout summer is uncommon, but chances of a shower increase significantly during the shoulder seasons.

July has the most hours of sunshine at an average of 12 per day, and more than 8 from March until September.

Sea temperatures reach 26°C/79°F in August and are comfortably warm from June through to October.

Clothing to Pack For Your Charter:

Away from the beach the typical style of clothing is smart casual, and away from the cosmopolitan party hotspots dress is typically conservative.

When visiting religious sites, both men and women should have shoulders and thighs covered and in some places footwear such as flip-flops may be prohibited.

In June, July and August rainfall is low, however a light waterproof layer and umbrella should be packed for times when the weather is unpredictable.

Due to the breezes along the coast, a jumper or other additional layer is recommended outside the summer season and for spending time outside in the evening even in July and August as well as for air conditioned environments.

Main Ports and Marinas

Best time to go

Menorca is a year-round destination however the best time to visit is in the summer months, when regattas take place in August and services on the island are running at peak performance. Menorca is far away from the party capital of Ibiza and while your luxury yacht affords you your own personal space away from the crowds, day and night, visitors looking for a more sedate experience while exploring the local landmarks might prefer the shoulder seasons.

Guide to Malaga

A cultural getaway found on the Spanish Coast

Situated in southern Spain, Málaga is a beautiful port city that is loaded with history and overflowing with youthful vigour. More than just the birthplace of Picasso, Malaga has been designed for relaxation with myriad golf courses, a selection of beautiful wellness resorts and an innovative culinary scene. With nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, and several kilometres of beach to explore, it's quite easy to see why Malaga has been described as "Ciudad del Paraíso" (Paradise City).

The Spanish Coast spoils its superyacht visitors with a fascinating array of azure beauty and city-living and Málaga lives up to these high standards. As one of the oldest cities in Spain , hallmarks of its rich past are scattered across the city, the cobbled streets of the old quarter, its mountainside Roman Amphitheatre, the Moorish citadels of the Alcazaba and Gilfarbaro. Make sure you don’t miss a visit to the famous cathedral that dominates the old part of the city. Built in 1528, the Renaissance and Baroque-style cathedral is a beautiful structure enjoyed by all its visitors.

Yachting enthusiasts are attracted to this bustling city because of its cultural heritage and subtropical climate during the day. However, Málaga offers the perfect nightlife scene, inviting crowds of fashionistas and some of the most elite to party from dusk till dawn. With numerous options to suit all tastes including tapas bars, clubs on the sea, drinking in the university district and romantic walks through the streets of the old town. From rooftop bars to elite nightclubs, Málaga’s nightlife is known to be sophisticated and fashionable but also to the hand and vibrant.

In the historic city centre, just across from the cathedral, is Malaga’s main venue for live jazz. This American-style jazz club, with incredibly stylish decor and atmospheric lighting, this lavish club hosts nightly concerts which feature both local and international artists. After a lazy day cruising in the Spanish sunshine aboard your superyacht charter , enjoy an evening of classic cocktails and great music.

If you’re looking to dive into the exceptional culinary provided in the city, For dinner, head to the city’s only Michelin-starred restaurants, the eponymous José Carlos García. Select a table on the restaurant’s beautiful terrace, boasting the most spectacular sunsets, the ambience created here is impeccable. Diners have one choice, a spectacular tasting menu, which changes regularly according to local produce. Be sure to expect expertly crafted seafood made with that day’s catch, great wines and flawless service.

The Spanish Coastline offers a balmy Mediterranean retreat full of energetic cities, awe-inspiring architecture and old-town beauty, all wrapped in century old architecture. 7 of the coolest features on Spain's largest superyacht Renaissance

An exclusive look inside the 112-metre Renaissance has been offered by her central agency for charter, Burgess . Both the largest private yacht built in Spain and one of the world's most expensive charter yachts , Renaissance is quite the feat for Freire – a commercial shipyard that has built only one private yacht in the past. Designed inside and out by Bannenberg & Rowell , BOAT takes a closer look at her coolest features...

1. Six decks' worth of dining options

With 7,200 GT to play with (and six decks available to guests), al fresco spaces abound on Renaissance. Culinary offers include a sushi bar, an outdoor pizza oven and two barbecues positioned right beside the dining areas for a "chef's table" experience. For more formal occasions, a double-height dining room is found on the main deck, a feature that adds "a sense of theatre" according to Burgess.

2. A deck dedicated entirely to wellness

Amenities include a sauna, steam room, hot and cold plunge pools, a spacious gym (with an equipment list that would "amaze an elite athlete") and even a ballet bar with a mirror for stretching. There are also two treatment rooms and a dedicated hair and beauty salon.

3. The "palatial" owner's deck with private terrace

Renaissance has a deck dedicated entirely to her owner, at the heart of which lies a 60-square-metre cabin with his-and-hers bathrooms (both with side deck access), a media room and a lounge with bar and dining. Forward, you'll find the private terrace with a Jacuzzi for six, sunloungers and lounge seating, whereas the equally-private aft deck is primed for 12-person dinner parties.

4. The cinema

This private cinema seats up to 19 guests, with imagery revealing plush, neutral-toned sofa seating, recliners and ambient lighting. On balmier nights, a second cinema can be found outdoors.

5. The decked-out beach club

The spacious beach club is described as a "destination in itself", outfitted with a bar, waterside dining and several lounge areas. It's also the best spot onboard for ocean-lovers, with lateral-opening terraces both port and starboard.

6. The swimming pool

Renaissance 's sprawling swimming pool measures 10 metres long and five metres wide. Flanked by sunloungers and sofa seating, it offers uninhibited sea views off the stern and spacious, fixed sunpads forward.

7. The helipad (and other toys)

This superyacht bow has been transformed into a commercially-certified helicopter landing pad – and the impressive capacity continues, with enough onboard storage for an "armada of all the latest watertoys" and a fleet of custom-built tenders.

Renaissance will be available for charter in spring 2024. Unsurprisingly, she clinched the top entry for Spain in this year's biggest superyacht launches .

Four Seasons' exclusive new yachts will take you to ritzy ports in the Caribbean and Mediterranean come 2026

Four Seasons is already famous for its over-the-top private jet itineraries that have travelers with deep pockets flying between world-famous landmarks, cosmopolitan cities and adventures in national parks, safari camps and everything in between.

Now, Four Seasons is unveiling its first set of luxury cruise itineraries on the soon-to-launch collection of Four Seasons Yachts, which were initially announced back in 2022 .

For its inaugural season (assuming the ship-building process continues without any hiccups), discerning travelers can visit the Caribbean between January and March 2026 on seven-night sailings that include tropical destinations like St. Barts, Nevis, the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Curacao and Aruba.

For example, the " Lesser Antilles Featuring Nevis & the Grenadines " cruise, which starts at $19,900 per suite, leaves Philipsburg, St. Maarten, and has full anchored days in destinations like Gustavia, St. Barts, and Charlestown, Nevis, alongside a full beach day and a sailing day before anchoring in Barbados.

In Europe, sailings around the Mediterranean will launch in March 2026, with stops at ports in Croatia, Gibraltar, Montenegro, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey.

Starting at $28,500 per suite, the nine-night " Grand Mediterranean Featuring Saint-Tropez & Trapani " departs Malaga, Spain, and cruises the Mediterranean Sea before making stops in beautiful spots like La Joliette and St-Tropez in France, two ports in Italy (including Sicily), and Gozo and Valletta in Malta.

Or, if Greece is on the mind, the " Greek Isles featuring Santorini & Mykonos " itinerary, starting at $19,700 per suite, will take travelers from Athens to Greek stops like Santorini, Ios, Milos and Mykonos. It will also include a stop outside of Greece in Didim, Turkey.

As for the ships themselves, would-be Four Seasons cruisers should expect the best of the best, including 95 suites that range from 500 to 10,000 square feet and feature modern design, indoor and outdoor spaces, Four Seasons signature mattresses and bedding, twice-daily housekeeping, 24-hour dining, an on-call concierge, tablets that control the room, and a minimum of a 55-inch TV with streaming capabilities, among other perks.

For even more space, choose a Funnel or Loft suite. They will include multiple bedrooms, splash pools, outdoor showers and plenty of space to spread out and relax.

Throughout the ships, sailors can take advantage of 11 different restaurants and bars, a spa, a pool (that can be converted to a deck for private events) and a 1:1 guest-to-staff ratio.

If you're interested in joining one of these cruises, head to the Four Seasons Yachts contact page to sign up for more information.

Four Seasons , together with luxury yachting company Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings Ltd, Joint Owner/Operator, Four Seasons Yachts, and venerated Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, continues to chart a new course of luxury at sea. As momentum builds towards the inaugural season of Four Seasons Yachts , the first 10 unique voyages are unveiled, each inviting travellers to make the iconic islands and hidden gems of the Caribbean and Mediterranean their playground, with meticulously designed suites that guests will call home along the journey.

“We are excited to showcase the breathtaking destinations and world-class design awaiting guests aboard Four Seasons Yachts as we approach our inaugural season in 2026,” says Alejandro Reynal , President and Chief Executive Officer, Four Seasons. “At Four Seasons, guest-centricity has always been the foundation of our luxury service offering and our exceptional Yacht will extend this approach to the seas. Our teams are dedicated to innovating and delivering genuine service, ensuring each journey is defined by comfort, elegance, and personalization, setting a new standard for luxury hospitality experiences at sea.”

A Journey Across Crystal Clear Caribbean Waters   and Magnificent Mediterranean Seas

In its debut year, Four Seasons Yachts will explore more than 130 distinct destinations across over 30 countries and territories. All itineraries are crafted with flexibility in mind, allowing guests to tailor their own adventure as they explore beyond the familiar. The team curating each itinerary understands the nuances of these locales, ensuring each experience is truly extraordinary. Enhancing itineraries are customizable with pre-and-post hotel and overland programs at beloved Four Seasons hotels and resorts.

The first Four Seasons Yacht, currently under construction in Ancona, Italy, will travel westbound as part of its repositioning and will welcome guests to set sail amid the serene turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea from January to March 2026. The first Caribbean itineraries feature seven nights of exploration through the most exciting yachting destinations including Saint Barthélemy (St Barths), Nevis, the Grenadines, St Lucia, Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Curaçao and Aruba. Destination highlights include indulging in the dazzling nightlife of St Barths, discovering Martinique’s volcanic coral reefs and lush rainforest landscapes, a marina day in St Lucia’s Tobago Cays, and much more.

With more destinations and details to be unveiled in the coming months, the first  Grand Mediterranean  voyages will begin in March 2026 and will include sailings through Croatia, Gibraltar, Montenegro, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Türkiye. The Mediterranean itinerary will also highlight the Greek Isles , with stops in Athens, Ios, Santorini, Milos, and more. Guests will explore under-the-radar islands steeped in culture and history, offering a variety of experiences that go above and beyond the ordinary of Mediterranean sailings.

Bespoke Suite Designs Focused on Comfort, Connection and Care

In collaboration with Tillberg Design of Sweden and the Yacht’s Creative Director, Prosper Assouline, the Yacht’s suite design embodies the essence of intuitive luxury, each a sanctuary of tranquillity with panoramic views, elegant interiors, thoughtful details and a residential feel that creates the sense of a welcoming home at sea.

"Our goal was to craft an environment that feels both familiar and extraordinary, with warm hues and open designs. We are creating an inviting, welcoming environment that reflects the same feeling one experiences at a Four Seasons hotel or resort," says Fredrik Johannson, Partner and Executive Director of Tillberg Design of Sweden. “At the same time, we are designing a look and feel that is unique to this project, creating an elegant yet simple interior that stands out on its own, while blending beautifully with the majestic seas that will surround it.”

With 50% more living space per guest than currently available with any competitor at sea, all suites will offer floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing sweeping sea views, double vanity bathrooms with spacious showers and closets, expansive private terraces, and dynamic use of space and light.

The Yacht’s extensive network of adjoining suites will feature an innovative system that connects accommodations with modular walls, offering numerous options of vertical and horizontal combinations within the signature suites. This versatility will unlock more than 100 different connection options and the unique opportunity to reserve an entire side of a deck, perfect for those travelling with family, friends, or larger groups. For example, this one-of-a-kind design will allow for more than 13,000 square feet (1,200 square metres) of total living space.

A New Suite Standard: Funnel and Loft Suites

The largest accommodations are seven signature suites ranging from 2,981 to 9,975 square feet (277 to 927 square metres) of indoor and outdoor living space. They offer two to three bedrooms, separate living rooms, indoor and outdoor dining space, splash pools, outdoor showers, and the option to connect to additional suites.

The premier signature suite accommodations – the Funnel and Loft Suites – both feature three bedrooms, outdoor showers, and splash pools. The largest on board, the Funnel Suite, housed within the Yacht’s glass-enclosed funnel, is 9,975 square feet (927 square metres), spanning four levels of living space. The suite’s towering floor-to-ceiling wraparound windows, made up of the largest contiguous piece of glass at sea, is a one-of-a-kind engineering feat offering stunning 280-degree panoramic views. The Loft Suite is 7,952 square feet (739 square metres) and can accommodate large group sizes of up to 20 people by connecting with seven additional suites, the largest number of connecting suites available.

When exploring beyond the comforts of their stunning suites, guests can enjoy 11 dining options, spa and wellness offerings, a state-of-the-art transverse marina, and the stern pool, set to be one of the largest in the industry at nearly 19 metres long and 5 metres wide (65 feet long and 18 feet wide). Its unique hydraulic lift design will allow the pool deck to level out, creating an expansive outdoor space for weddings, celebrations and other events.

Four Seasons Yachts will redefine luxury at sea with its all-suite, residential style product, best in class design and the brand’s renowned service and care delivered through a 1:1 guest-to-staff ratio.
