Hull Yacht Club

Item added to your cart

The Hull Yacht Club, founded in 1880, is located directly on Allerton Harbor in Hull, MA. One of the oldest yacht clubs in America, the club has a rich history of yacht racing and cruising. The current membership has a mix of sail, power and social-only members. Allerton Harbor is well protected from all points of the compass. The varied anchorages of the  Boston Harbor islands  are just minutes away, while many picturesque North and South Shore harbors are an easy weekend cruise.

During the late 1800’s, catboats dominated the fleet. Since the 1940’s the club has established itself as a dominant force in one design racing. Today, the club is involved in one-design, PHRF and junior sailing. There is a local fleet of Rhodes19’s and International 110’s. Our junior sailors race fleets of N10 (Turnabouts), Optimists, and 420’s. The club hosts a number of One-Design and Junior sailing events during the season. There is also a large group of PHRF sailors. You can almost always jump aboard a boat to crew, or skipper your own boat in the regular Wednesday night series and various Thursday night and weekend races. The Hull Yacht Club also sponsors several PHRF events including the Scorpion Bowl, the Solstice Race, the Flashlight Series, and the club’s signature event: the Great Chase Race , now one of the largest racing events in the Mass Bay area.

Youth Sailing Programs

HYC operates a very successful youth sailing program. Children can start out at a very early age and become proficient at small boat handling and general nautical skills. Young people can move along at individual rates into intermediate and advance programs. Instructions start with the Optimists and progress through to 420’s.The Hull Yacht Club competes in many interclub competitions and has representation at most major youth regattas. The club also sponsors a program during the summer designed to introduce local children to sailing.

A Spirit of Goodfellowship

Members work together in a cooperative spirit, an advantage for new members seeking advice on everything from sail trim to mooring set up and placement. A 2-ton hoist is maintained by the club that can be used to launch and haul small boats and for stepping spars. The Hull Yacht Club is low key and family oriented with young people playing an important role in the membership and activities. This is a member-run club with a strong spirit of volunteerism. While there is a very active racing program, many other members use the club as a base for cruising and powerboating, with groups often forming for weekend trips. Membership rates are reasonable and the facilities are geared for the active boater. Guest moorings are available. We invite you to come for a visit and learn more!

Beverly Yacht Club at 150 Years

Published on July 27th, 2022 by Editor -->

Located toward the northern end of Buzzards Bay, Beverly Yacht Club sits alongside Sippican Harbor in Marion, MA. In this report by R. Gregg Nourjian, he celebrates this jewel of the New England region:

It is all too common for a private club to be formed by people who want an exclusive place to congregate, where they don’t need to be exposed to the “outside” world. These clubs often have beautiful buildings with fences and gates, strict guest policies that limit non-member access, and rules and guidelines designed for the sole benefit of the club’s membership.

Ours is another kind of club – a community born for the love of a sport and for the good of the sport… 150 years ago.

A selection from Marion Historian Judy Rosbe’s book says: “The Beverly Yacht Club, one of the oldest yacht clubs in America, was founded in 1872 by young men who summered in Beverly. They were upset that the newly formed Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead refused to recognize yachts under 30 feet in length on the waterline for the races that they held.

oldest yacht club in massachusetts

“Thus, Edward and Walter Burgess (the famous yacht designer), at a supper party at their home in Boston on February 24, 1872, formally launched the Beverly Yacht Club. The first regatta was held by the club on June 22, 1872, in which 11 boats, 10 catboats, and a sloop started in three classes.

“For the first 23 years, the Beverly Yacht Club had no fixed abode; they held races and regattas at ports most convenient to the members. In 1913, the club moved to Marion, where it has been located ever since.”

This excerpt, and Judy’s book, recount great stories of the history of the Beverly Yacht Club, but it is the character of the club that has fed the sailing community, made it what it is today, and cements it in the hearts and minds of mariners around the World. It is not just a clubhouse or body of water – although it’s hard to beat the sailing on Buzzards Bay – but rather a community in which all well-intentioned sailors are welcomed, to gather and enjoy the sea and each other’s company. BYC is a family – one with scores of sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandkids, great grandkids and, most importantly, friends.

I have spent 54 of my 56 summers in Marion. At a very young age, I started immersing myself in the BYC family and became a fixture at the club, spending long days in sailing classes and traveling to junior team races at clubs around the Bay, Cape Cod, and Martha’s Vineyard.

By 12 years old, I was using my 17’ Boston Whaler to set marks for BYC adult races, doing odd jobs around the club, and even cooking in the snack bar. A couple summers later, I took over as captain of the Race Committee Boat and filled in driving the launch during the summer and on weekends while attending Tabor Academy.

As is true with many yacht club kids, my summer friends were a second family to me. In a club truly committed to youth sailing, it was so easy to make friends that shared common interests – many of whom remain as close today as when we were 13 years old.

The BYC community has a passion for hosting sailors and sailing events. I remember when my parents’ friends used to come to Marion for Buzzards Bay Regatta and local sailors in each fleet would house the visitors and show them a good time. Those were the days of large fleets Shields, H-12s, Lasers, and PHRF boats – crews who sailed hard all day and celebrated at the club or at the Boathouse Parties into the evenings.

BYC also welcomes scores of sailors for the Marion-Bermuda Race every other year and puts on quite an event and race for visitors from around the World.

The spirit of hospitality has also extended to scores of young sailors at BBR, and during team races and the BYC Junior Regatta each summer, where my friends and I met our visiting friends with whom and against whom we would be competing and hosting for many years to come as juniors, thirty-somethings and beyond.

These are the same friends that we still sail with and against in Buzzards Bay, Newport, Vineyard Sound, Nantucket Sound, Mass Bay, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. These are the same friends with whom we share cruises to Maine and wonderfully happy days on Sunflower rafts .

BYC members have circled the globe, competed in the Olympics, sailed hundreds of thousands of offshore miles, competed in and organized some of the best regattas in the World, cruised to far off harbors, and simply spent millions of hours leisurely enjoying Buzzards Bay and Sippican Harbor. And to add to that, we have weekly racing five days a week and a dozen or so special races and regattas.

As I look back at all these accomplishments and statistics, and the impressive history of the Beverly Yacht Club, I flash back to the memories, particularly of my 13-year-old self… rowing my dinghy home across the harbor after our Labor Day Cups & Flags Awards Celebration.

As twilight descends, the clubhouse murmur of the BYC family fades and I reach my grandmother’s dock with a tear in my eye. I pull the boat up, secure her, and walk up the hill to my waiting parents and sisters ready to depart for Vermont, and a new school year. I wasn’t going to just miss the club… I was already missing my BYC family.

While I’ve only been a part of the club for a third of its life, I’ve gotten more than a lifetime of joy from her. As we celebrated our 150th at the club on July 23, we buried a time capsule filled with memories of these first 150 years.

When the capsule is opened in 2072, I hope that the club that I have experienced, will be the same one my kids and future grandkids will be enjoying… A warm, welcoming, vibrant community of enthusiastic sailors and dedicated volunteers at the friendliest club in the World.

Yes, we have a beautiful location, quaint historic clubhouse, and new spectacular bar, but it is the BYC family and the community it attracts that will be remembered for generations to come.

One of the great benefits of being such a welcoming and friendly club is that the hospitality is often reciprocated by so many sister clubs, as well as individual sailing families who have no club, who have been our guests at some point along the way.

As a passing BYC burgee always elicits a wave and a smile from fellow members, does the same for our friends… whether we know them or not.

For the love of a sport and for the good of the sport, Happy Birthday BYC!

Quannapowitt Yacht Club is the oldest in-land yacht club in America. The first boathouse was built in 1872 by Civil War soldier, Albert S. Wiley at the end of Spaulding Street. Along with his son, Will, a second and much larger boat house was built in 1880 which was to become Quannapowitt Yacht Club. Holding its first official meeting on June 9, 1880 and a subsequent official election of officers took place on April 8, 1881 at the home of Mr. Will Wiley. W.T. Van Norstrand was elected the first QYC commodore, Junius Beebe as Vice Commodore and Will Wiley as treasurer.

The first published mention of a Quannapowitt Yacht Club appeared in a news article in April 1895. This articled stated that a group of men gathered at the home of Will H. Wiley to re-organize the club, elect officers, and adopt a constitution. Its purpose 'shall be the promotion of rowing, canoeing, and sailing and the encouragement of sociability among its members.' Membership fee at that time was $2.00 and was limited to 100 people. In 1887, Mr. Will Wiley built an even larger and more modern boathouse at the end of Lake Avenue right on the shores of the lake. In 1912 the clubhouse was largely expanded with a second story dance hall edition.

In 1923 the boathouse was purchased by Harold & Gertrude Hill and a very popular social club known as Hill's Boathouse until it was later sold to the Town of Wakefield and demolished in 1964.

There is little mention of the yacht club from the early 1900s to 1912 when another reorganization meeting was held, again at Mr. Wiley's home. With a fee of $5.00 and no annual dues for the first year, the Quannapowitt Yacht Club revised the former yacht club constitution and bylaws on May 17, 1912. The club had three classes of boats with a cup awarded in each class after a seven-race series. Interest in sailing on Lake Quannapowitt fluctuated during the next two decades, with renewed interest in 1931, and again in 1936.

On April 26, 1936, a reorganization meeting was held at Hill's Boathouse and a charter was written. The club's red, white and blue triangular shaped pennant was adopted in 1938. In 1940, a new charter was written and the Quannapowitt Yacht Club was incorporated. Although plans for a permanent home for the club were initiated in 1942, it wasn't until spring 1947 that club members towed their floats from Hill's Boathouse to a site 'near the old Boston Ice Houses,' on property owned by club member Wendell Vidito.

The club subsequently purchased the 9000 sq. ft. property on Linda Road for the sum of $1100 and a 12 x 20 club house was built near the beach. It was built so that it could be moved or added to in future years. On Memorial Day, 1948, after the members dug the foundation by hand, the clubhouse was moved to a concrete foundation on a hill. Additional land was purchased in 1953, and in 1961 the present clubhouse was built, with a porch added in 1971 and later enclosed with sliding glass doors.

Located in the small town of Marion, adjacent to Buzzards Bay, the Beverly Yacht Club is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the United States, founded in 1872. The club hosts a number of regattas, including two biennal hostings of the Marion to Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race and the Buzzards Bay Regatta.

From the Commodore:

Through the contributions of the membership, it is with sincere pleasure that the Beverly Yacht Club becomes a Founding Member of the National Sailing Hall of Fame. The Beverly Yacht Club was born for the purpose of supporting the development of yacht racing beginning with our founding Commodore, America’s Cup yacht designer Edward Burgess.

Since 1872, it has had an active racing program that has participated in or held major regattas throughout its history. From its Junior Sailing Program, the sponsoring and management of the Marion Bermuda race, to sending member athletes to the Olympic Games, we have maintained through our 140 years a clear focus the sport.

We are looking forward to a long association and future participation in the activities of the organization.

Raymond J. Cullum, Commodore

Beverly Yacht Club

Withing ten years of its founding, the club had so successfully championed small boat racing that more sailors from the south shore and Buzzards Bay had joined the club. In 1882 and 1883 the BYC hosted what was believed at the time to be the largest union regatta recorded in America, with some 113 and 171 small and large boats participating.

In 1895 the club moved to Pocasset and in 1913 to Marion, a colonial-era town known for its shipyards and salt works, and in the 19th century its whaling fleet.

Today, the Beverly Yacht Club shares duties with the New Bedford Yacht Club in hosting the annual Buzzards Bay Regatta, which began in 1972 and today is the largest multi-class regatta in the country, drawing over 450 boats and 1200 sailors across fifteen different classes, organized and run by over 200 volunteers during the event’s three day weekend.

Boating Traditions: America’s 100 Oldest Yacht Clubs

The development of yacht clubs in the 1800s is an important chapter of our boating and marina history in the U.S.—and tells us much about the country’s early yearning for nature and community.

The birth of organized boating, rowing, and sail-racing clubs in our country took place in the 1800s and many of these early yacht clubs are still in operation today.

If you’re a sailor, oarsman, or boater, you’re probably familiar with many yacht clubs around the country—but do you know which U. S. yacht clubs have the pedigree to lay claim to being the country’s oldest?

The first time I heard the phrase yacht club was during a weekend at our family camp on a lake in the Northern Tier of New York State, just outside Adirondack Park. As a boy, most of my weekends there were spent fishing, swimming, and boating, and at the neighboring marina I heard sailing stories about the St. Regis Lake Yacht Club, founded in 1897. (Not on the list here, it’s the 156th oldest yacht club in America.) I was and still am a powerboater—learning boating back then in an aluminum boat with a 7 1/2-hp outboard—but I was fascinated by the sailing stories I heard dating back to the turn of the 20th Century in New York’s Franklin County.

At Dockwa, our loose definition of a yacht club is:

  • Usually membership-owned and controlled by a board;
  • Can be exclusive, but many no longer are;
  • Can specialize in many different types of activities such as sailing, racing, cruising, and kids’ programs;
  • They do not always have paid employees and might be volunteer-based.

Many yacht clubs nationally use Dockwa as their dockage reservation-and-booking platform or for marina management. So recently we had some fun office chatter—because we all work remotely, it was actually digital direct messaging office chatter—about which of the country’s yacht clubs have been around the longest.

Without further ado, and giving a shout-out to International Burgee Registry , here is the list of the 100 oldest yacht clubs in the United States, in chronological order of their founding from one to 100, with links to those still operating.

Winthrop Yacht Club History

The Winthrop Yacht Club is the oldest yacht club in Winthrop. It was founded in 1884 by eight men living and summering in Winthrop. From this humble beginning the WYC has grown to a club with over 800 members.

The present clubhouse was built in 1904 after the original one was destroyed by fire. It forms the central focus for all club activities. The view of Boston Harbor is spectacular, and is a great place to watch the sun set on a warm summer evening. There is a lounge with a full service bar and grill with an adjoining porch that overlooks the harbor. There are function rooms, gear lockers and recreational facilities available for members' use.

The WYC was originally founded as a sailing and racing club. After the Second World War with the advent of cheap gasoline, powerboats began to be seen. Now the club consists of a variety of boats of all types. There is an ongoing, friendly rivalry between the "stink potters" (powerboats) and the "rag baggers" (sailboats)!

In 1979 the Youth Sailing Program was started. The program has professional instructors and provides a wide variety of learning and racing activities. The kids in the program have won many awards over the years, which are proudly displayed in the clubhouse. The fleet consists of 10 foot Turnabouts, which are both club and privately owned. The summer season concludes with a Family Day which features races crewed by a parent/child team.

East Coast's oldest yacht club, in East Boston, seeks liquor license; attorney assures board the club has no Thurston Howell III's as members

Jeffries Yacht Club members

Member Douglas Babcock (l) and proposed manager Brian George speak from the yacht club

The Boston Licensing Board could decide tomorrow whether to let members of the Jeffries Yacht Club in East Boston relax after a hard weekend sail with a cold bottle of beer or mixed drink.

At a hearing today, the club, at the very end of Jeffries Point just across from the airport, formally asked for a "club" license, which it said it would likely only use a few hours a week, on weekends.

Club attorney Andrew Upton tried to disabuse the board of any notions that the club caters to the sort of swells who might go on three-hour tour, a three-hour tour.

"I don't want anyone to get the idea that anyone like Thurston Howell III are members," he said.

"There really are no yachts at this yacht club," he continued. Instead, its old salt of the earth members take out their sailboats and other small vessels for a day on the water, before returning to port.

"As far as I know, they have not had any problems over their past 150 years of existence," he said, allowing that, perhaps, "in the old days, [members] may have relaxed and unwound at the club with beverages that are not necessarily compliant with modern-day alcohol laws."

He said the public need - a requirement for any liquor license in Boston - is that there is nothing like the club anywhere else in the immediate vicinity.

He added that "this club does not create noise or rowdiness," in fact, the club is a valued part of the community whose application has the support of the Jeffries Point Neighborhood Association.

Club member Douglas Babcock told the board that the sort of vibe created by club members is one of the reasons he decided to move to East Boston. He said members are "friendly people, regular people who all live in the neighborhood" and who give back in all sorts of ways to the community, for example, through the Eastie Elves.

He added that, at 42, he said, he's one of the younger members: "There's no rowdiness, we're all adults here."

Was Thurston Howell and the

Was Thurston Howell and the yachtmen known for being rawdy types? Seems like an odd thing to stay focused on when trying to convince people of how quiet you are...

once, you’ve been to a few Eastie community meetings, as I’m sure the applicants have, it’s pretty easy to figure out the “long time residents” and “voices of the community” are pretty much opposed to any millionaires in the neighborhood. Excepting, of course, the millionaires they keep selling their houses to.

The yacht club in New York City is the oldest on the east coast and oldest in the USA.

I'll probably regret asking but

If they won't admit Thurston Howell III, will they admit Magoo?

You’ve given me hope that he’ll get lost in a gale far from internet access.

hope they kept their drink glasses cleaner than their webcam!

Mister Babcock, a lawyer

Mister Babcock, a lawyer himself, no longer resides in East Boston, and hasn't since before the pandemic hit.

I loathe this shit

He said the public need - a requirement for any liquor license in Boston

Yes, before you're allowed to open a business, you need to prove to some government bureaucracy that there is a public need for that business to exist.

If only there were some other way to figure that out, If only we had some sort of economic system in which you could assess the need for a particular business to exist by, say, letting someone open said business with their own money and seeing if the public chooses to spend money there. That would be awesome.

N.B., I'm not in principle opposed to regulation of business in any way: I'm fine with saying you can't build a garbage depot or a metal smelter in the middle of a residential neighborhood. I'm fine with limiting the impact that a loud, busy nightclub has on its neighbors at 4AM. But damn, this "prove there's a need" bullshit in our laws just frosts me every time I see it.

Legacy of prohibition

If you read the literature from the pre World War I era, you’ll see why there is a public need clause. Better than making the club buy one of the limited number of full licenses, no?

"Workingman's yacht clubs"

Old school "workingman's yacht clubs" can be awesome. Sadly, they're kind of going out of style, in part because the economic era in which their target membership could afford boats and had the leisure to enjoy them is kinda gone. Sure, the blue-blazer New York Yacht Club types organize the Bermuda Race and other marquee events, but in terms of advancing the sport by getting ordinary people out on the water to have fun, they can't be beat. I've spent a fair bit of time around them... it's always amusing for visitors to discover that the four similar-looking scruffy guys at the end of the bar are a welder, a college professor, a biotech scientist, and a masonry contractor.

$2.50 Bud Lights Too

Don't forget all of the upside.

I'm with you, Bob

I belonged to one years ago when I lived closer to the water. We had a teeny building, but it was on the harbor and we had a dock. People knew their shit. If you had a problem with your boat, next thing you knew, a bunch of guys (yes, all guys) were crawling all over it trying to diagnose it. There were a lot of self-sufficient sailors that could take their boat apart and put it back together again. Good stuff.

Lawyer, Author and TikTok Star Spent 72 Years in an Iron Lung

Paul Alexander, who died at 78, was paralyzed with polio at age 6 and relied on the machine to breathe. Still, he was able to earn a law degree, write a book and, late in life, build a following on TikTok.

Paul Alexander on Living Inside an Iron Lung

During an interview in 2018, alexander called the iron lung, a machine that helped him breathe, “my friend” and “my enemy.”.

The iron lung is home to me now. It’s my friend, and it’s — my enemy. In the end, it keeps me alive. Polio is watched very carefully because it’s a hideous disease. Mine was extensive. One of the worst cases ever recorded. And I’m still here. The machine is another way of life. It’s a different kind of life that you’re totally restricted. But you adapt and you learn to do what you need to do to accomplish your goals and your dreams with the help of the iron lung.

By Jesus Jiménez

After he was paralyzed by polio at age 6, Paul Alexander was confined for much of his life to a yellow iron lung that kept him alive. He was not expected to survive after that diagnosis, and even when he beat those odds, his life was mostly constrained by a machine in which he could not move.

But the toll of living in an iron lung with polio did not stop Mr. Alexander from going to college, getting a law degree and practicing law for more than 30 years. As a boy, he taught himself to breathe for minutes and later hours at a time, but he had to use the machine every day of his life.

He died on Monday at 78, according to a statement by his brother, Philip Alexander, on social media .

He was one of the last few people in the United States living inside an iron lung, which works by rhythmically changing air pressure in the chamber to force air in and out of the lungs. And in the final weeks of his life, he drew a following on TikTok by sharing what it had been like to live so long with the help of an antiquated machine.

No official cause of death was given. But Mr. Alexander had briefly been hospitalized with Covid-19 in February, according to his TikTok account . After he returned home, Mr. Alexander struggled with eating and hydrating as he recovered from the virus, which attacks the lungs and can be especially dangerous to people who are older and have breathing problems.

Mr. Alexander contracted polio in 1952, according to his book, “Three Minutes for a Dog: My Life in an Iron Lung.” He was quickly paralyzed, and doctors at Parkland Hospital in Dallas put him in an iron lung so that he could breathe.

“One day I opened my eyes from a deep sleep and looked around for something, anything, familiar,” Mr. Alexander said in his book, which he wrote by putting a pen or pencil in his mouth. “Everywhere I looked was all very strange. Little did I know that each new day my life was unavoidably set on a path that would become unimaginably strange and more challenging.”

While innovations in science and technology led to portable ventilators for people with respiratory problems, Mr. Alexander’s chest muscles were too damaged to use any other machine, and he was reliant on the iron lung for much of his life, according to The Dallas Morning News , which profiled him in 2018.

When he was inside the machine, Mr. Alexander needed the help of others for basic tasks such as eating and drinking. For much of his life, that help came from his caregiver, Kathy Gaines, Mr. Alexander wrote in his book.

Mr. Alexander launched his TikTok account in January, and, with help from others, he began creating videos about his life. Some addressed broader parts of his life, like how he practiced law from the iron lung.

@ironlungman Episode 1 of Convos with Paul! We will be responding to comments and questions about Paul’s life, his polio, and life in an iron lung! Please be positive 😊 #PaulAlexander #poliopaul #ironlung #conversationswithpaul ♬ Chopin Nocturne No. 2 Piano Mono - moshimo sound design

In other videos, he took questions from his more than 330,000 followers, about more mundane, yet interesting, aspects of his daily life, like how he was able to relieve himself . (A caregiver had to unlock the iron lung, and he would use a urinal or bed pan.)

In one video , Mr. Alexander detailed the emotional and mental challenges of living inside an iron lung.

“It’s lonely,” he said as the machine can be heard humming in the background. “Sometimes it’s desperate because I can’t touch someone, my hands don’t move, and no one touches me except in rare occasions, which I cherish.”

Mr. Alexander said in the video that over the years, he had received emails and letters from people who were struggling with anxiety and depression, and offered some advice.

“Life is such an extraordinary thing,” he said. “Just hold on. It’s going to get better.”

Paul Richard Alexander was born on Jan. 30, 1946, in Dallas to Gus Nicholas Alexander and Doris Marie Emmett. After playing outside on a summer day in 1952, he came home with a 102-degree fever, a headache and stiff neck, his mother wrote in the foreword to his book.

“I had every reason to be terror-stricken, and I was,” she wrote. “Polio, the dreaded disease for every parent, was stalking through our city like a big black monster, crippling and killing wherever he went. Here was Paul with every symptom.”

Mr. Alexander spent several months in the hospital, where he was close to dying on several occasions.

“Finally, one day the doctor called us in and told us Paul could not live much longer and if we wanted him at home with us when he died, we could take him,” his mother wrote.

His journey home with the iron lung made workers at the hospital “tense,” and it involved a truck with a generator in the bed to keep the machine working, his mother wrote.

When he was 8, Mr. Alexander learned to breathe on his own for up to three minutes by gulping in air “like a fish” and swallowing it into his lungs, he told The Dallas Morning News.

Mr. Alexander told the newspaper that he was motivated to learn to breathe by a caregiver who offered him a puppy if he tried to learn to breathe on his own. He got his puppy, and it later became the inspiration for the title of his book, “Three Minutes for a Dog.”

Mr. Alexander was one of the first students to be home-schooled through the Dallas Independent School District, and, in 1967, he graduated second in his class from W.W. Samuell High, according to The Dallas Morning News.

“The only reason I didn’t get first,” he told the newspaper, “is because I couldn’t do the biology lab.”

After high school, Mr. Alexander attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas before he transferred to the University of Texas at Austin to study economics and finance, according to the “Alcalde,” the alumni magazine of the University of Texas.

By learning to breathe on his own, Mr. Alexander was able to live outside the iron lung for hours at a time, and students from his dorm would take him to class in wheelchair, according to the Alcalde. He then attended law school at the University of Texas and earned his law degree in 1984.

Mr. Alexander is survived by his brother, his nephew Benjamin Alexander, his niece Jennifer Dodson and his sister-in-law Rafaela Alexander, according to Dignity Memorial . His funeral service is scheduled for March 20 at the Grove Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Dallas.

Before his death, in a video posted on TikTok on Jan. 31, Mr. Alexander said that he had been surprised and moved by the response to his videos.

“It makes me feel like there’s somebody that really cares about me,” he said. “I wish I could hug every one of you.”
