SOMNIO Yacht – World’s Largest Yacht Will Launch in 2024
SOMNIO yacht is the name of an exclusive new yacht project that will measure 222 meters (728 ft) and will become the new largest yacht in the world, both by weight and length.
This $600 million project has been described as a residential cruise ship designed to take its exclusive passengers around the world to the most sought-after destinations in remote places.
The interior of the SOMNIO yacht will be made up of 39 individual apartments, which are to be sold separately, giving this mega yacht more than one owner.
The yacht is currently being built by VARD in Norway and is expected to set sail sometime in 2024.
SOMNIO yacht interior
While the exterior of the SOMNIO yacht is being constructed by a shipyard specialized in cruise ships, the interior is unmistakably that of a superyacht.
The London-based design house Winch will collaborate with Tillberg of Sweden, both of which have extensive experience in the world of yacht design.
This will elevate the interior of SOMNIO and set it apart from other residential vessels like, for example, THE WORLD, which appeals to a far more budget-conscious target audience.
By combining the upscale amenities and design of a super yacht with the capabilities and facilities of a luxury cruise liner, SOMNIO is meant to cater to those who want to explore remote corners of the world from the comfort of their own home on the water.
The SOMNIO yacht will have 39 apartments available for purchase which can be customized with additional rooms or private facilities.
While a large portion of the yacht will be shared by all residents, SOMNIO also prioritizes the privacy that a private yacht might provide.
Buyers are encouraged to add a kitchen to their apartments to make themselves self-sufficient and able to cook for themselves on longer journeys.
However, an onboard restaurant with room service is available to cater to the needs of residents should they want a more luxurious experience.
Apartments onboard the SOMNIO yacht range from just one-bedroom suites to four-bedroom residences, which can be customized to include a library, massage room, private gym or office space.
Sizes will start at 182m2, which includes 148m2 interior space and a 34m2 terrace. The largest apartment available is the 963m2 penthouse which spans across the entire top deck.
With 602m2 interior space and a spacious 361m2 deck, this property is guaranteed to attract high-profile buyers.
The interior design is entirely customizable, and buyers are invited to submit their ideas and requirements to the team at Winch.
The idea is for each resident to customize their living space to their own lifestyle, which might include extended stays onboard or several shorter trips.
Some might plan to work onboard while others will spend time with their families, which might require more space.
In addition to a large swimming pool, multiple jacuzzis, and several in-house restaurants, SOMNIO yacht offers a 10,000-bottle wine cellar, a large beach club with water sports equipment, and a panorama lounge to its residents.
Specifications
SOMNIO will become the new largest yacht in the world, measuring 222 meters (728 ft) and taking the title from AZZAM.
At a total weight of 33,500 tons, this massive yacht is often compared to a small cruise ship that caters to the richest and wealthiest.
However, instead of joining the never-ending race of building new super yachts, SOMNIO is set to create an entirely new niche, combining yachts and cruise ships into the so-called yacht liner.
According to Jim Dixon, the creative director of yachts at Winch Design, a large part of the building process of the SOMNIO yacht will be similar to that of a cruise ship.
VARD, where the SOMNIO yacht is being constructed, has extensive experience in this field which is why the shipyard was chosen for this project.
Erik Bredhe is just one prominent name behind this high-profile project. The former Captain of the residential cruise ship THE WORLD is part of a steering committee that will be in charge of selecting residents for SOMNIO and inviting them to purchase apartments.
With this, he hopes to create a “community of like-minded individuals” on board the mega yacht.
Even though the launch of SOMNIO still lies at least two years in the future, there is already considerable interest in this new yacht, according to Jim Dixon.
Since the onboard apartments are highly customizable, there is even the possibility of one owner purchasing more than one residence aboard the yacht.
This unique new yacht project will feature six decks, a large swimming pool aft of the vessel as well as a full beach club.
The 39 apartments will be spread across the decks and only the largest of which will occupy the entire top deck.
This penthouse suite will be the most exclusive onboard the SOMNIO yacht and is expected to sell for far more than the estimated $20 million for smaller apartments.
Digital renders of the mega yacht portray it with a metallic blue exterior with white elements and a large aluminum superstructure. The decks will be made of light teak with white or cream deck furniture.
The front of SOMNIO will have space for a spacious helipad which allows even large aircraft to land comfortably.
The SOMNIO yacht will follow an itinerary all around the world, prioritizing less-visited locations to be able to provide unique experiences to its residents.
The highly-experienced crew is prepared to cater to every need of its guests and adjust the route according to the wishes of the residents. ‘
Day trips and land excursions are, of course, available on request, as well as special events and celebrations.
SOMNIO is a luxury project , and as to be expected, the price tag of this mega yacht is sizable. The project is estimated to cost between $500 and $600 million, although an exact figure is not publicly available.
The 39 luxury apartments will be available for $20 million each, although sales are expected to be by invite only.
Each apartment will be customizable and can be adapted to the needs and lifestyle of each resident.

A First Look at Interiors Aboard Superyacht Somnio
Set to become the world’s biggest yacht, Somnio will be home to 39 super exclusive condos.
By Irenie Forshaw
In June, specialist Norwegian shipbuilder, VARD, made waves when it announced plans to build the first-ever residential yacht liner and ‘most exclusive address in the world’, Somnio . Now renderings of the interiors aboard the gigantic 728-foot superyacht have been unveiled and they certainly don’t disappoint.
Slated to set sail in 2024, the impressive vessel will be home to 39 super exclusive condos (starting at a hefty $11.2m) across six decks, currently being offered to a select group of potential buyers on a strictly invitation-only basis.
With a build, design and outfitting budget of close to €500m (approximately $570m), the apartments, which range from 1,900 – 10,300 sq ft, will be anything but ordinary.
Future owners aboard the superyacht Somnio will be given the chance to either bring in their own personal interior decorator or work with one of three prestigious design firms – Tillberg Design of Sweden, Winch Design or Luttenberger Design – over three months to create their dream apartment.

“The outcome will be like nothing that exists today; it really will be dream-like. The expert design teams will be on-hand to assist owners on board the superyacht Somnio with choosing every last detail of their apartment from the layout, materials and furnishings right down to the cutlery, towels, and bedding.
“Drawing upon all of the studio’s experience designing the interiors of some of the world’s largest yachts, the team at Winch has dreamt up a wonderfully elegant interior that exudes refined sophistication with a neutral yet bold color palette, upon which owners can tailor to their personal tastes,” explains Jim Dixon, director of yachts and aviation of Winch Design.

Commenting on the release of the stunning interior renderings from the three design firms, co-founder of Somnio and former captain of M/V The World, Erik Bredhe said: “Beauty may be found as much on the inside of Somnio as it is on the outside. As the only residential superyacht in the world, we are delighted to work with designers that complement our exacting standards. Our owners will experience only the best, as is befitting of a yacht of this nature.”
Interiors have been designed to seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor living throughout the epic vessel so owners can fully immerse themselves in the ultra-luxe superyacht lifestyle.

Each of the design practices will carefully select materials and products that have a lower environmental impact in line with the company’s wider commitments to sustainability.
Somnio is being built using the latest clean engine technology and will have advanced equipment on board to conduct scientific research into ocean environments in alliance with Detroit-based Somnio Global (a scientific research and development organization). Other eco-friendly initiatives on board will include the chemical-free treatment of water, reuse of plastics and adoption of renewable energy sources.

Inside the design journey of the 222m private residence yacht Somnio
From the 196m The World to the proposed 289m Njord , private residence yachts are growing rapidly in popularity. Now, Winch Design has joined the fray, presenting designs for a 222m “private residence superyacht” named Somnio which will be built at Norwegian yard Vard for a scheduled 2024 launch. But rather than joining the existing fleet of these vessels, Somnio is set to stand apart, according to Winch’s creative director of yachts and aviation Jim Dixon.
- Inside the world's biggest private residence yachts
Somnio , Dixon says, is “neither a superyacht nor a cruise liner” but will instead “create a niche in the market by itself - a Yacht Liner”. This is a philosophy that guides the whole project from the bones up. Dixon reveals the “fast track” construction process, which will see the first steel cut in March 2022, will be based on the existing build process of a “conventional cruise ship”. “That’s why we’re building at Vard,” he adds, “because they’ve got such experience building cruise ships”. However, the fundamental construction of the hull and superstructure will be married with the “experience and quality” of interior contractors from the superyacht industry, which typically fit many of Winch Design's superyacht projects. “It’s a substantially higher level of design, quality and complexity than you would see on a typical cruise liner”, Dixon adds.
Elsewhere, Somnio will be bursting with the “facilities, amenities and itinerary you would expect from a luxury cruise liner”, including a panorama lounge, a 10,000-bottle "wine den", a variety of restaurants and a huge beach club complete with its own marina. But with only 39 customisable apartments on board, listed with starting price of €9.5m, Somnio will embody the “privacy, security and exclusivity that a superyacht owner would expect.” “We are trying to give potential owners the best of both,” Dixon says.
Key to this exclusivity is the selection process which will field the hopeful owners of the 39 apartments on board. The team behind the project, which includes former captain of The World Erik Bredhe, has established a steering committee which will select owners according to its strategy to bring together a “community of like-minded individuals”, Dixon reveals.
The marketing effort won't have any particular geographical focus, Dixon says. When it comes to prospective buyers, Somnio is proving the popularity of the private residence yacht model. The project has received a “huge amount of interest” from all areas of the buying community since it was first revealed in late June 2021, including enquiries from brokers, family offices, investment groups and individuals. As far as Dixon is concerned, “all buying channels are open”, as is the possibility of some buyers investing in more than one apartment.
Designs are already well underway on the fully customisable 39 apartments, which range from a 150sqm one bedroom apartment to a 600sqm apartment, which is large enough to include three to four bedrooms with a living and dining area. “The intention is that the apartments are self-sufficient,” Dixon explains. Owners are encouraged to include a kitchen space in their apartments to allow them to cook on board. They can also use the “ship’s room service” or eat out at the many restaurants on board.
When it comes to interior design, owners can opt for an interior penned by Winch and the project design partner Tillberg of Sweden. Each owner will have the chance to issue their own individual design brief and choose features including a private massage room, gym, private office and various accommodation layouts. The intention, Dixon says, is for owners to design their apartments around the lifestyle they plan to have on board. “Some owners might choose to spend three to six months on board,” Dixon says, pointing to the pandemic as a factor in this. “We know more owners are wanting to spend more time on their vessels, bring their families and conducting business on board.”
To ensure owners are well provided for, Somnio will be fully equipped with medical facilities to ensure “everyone is kept safe and healthy”. Owners can be taken “ashore as quickly as needed” thanks to the vessel’s fleet of tenders and helipad on the foredeck. Additional focus has been put on offering a wider range of wellness treatments and maximising the facilities available at the on board spa. A crew of around 170 will be on hand to facilitate owners’ stints on board, with the possibility of a “dedicated concierge” attending solely to one owner, their guests and family.
Somnio is already well advanced in the engineering phase and is set to begin construction in March 2022. Until then, there’s plenty to do, with Winch already fleshing out a typical apartment to show the select group destined to become the Somnio’s exclusive community of owners.

The World's Largest Private Residence Superyacht: 222m Somnio
By Freya Cottrell
Tillberg Design of Sweden, in collaboration with Winch Design, are daring to dream as they are appointed lead architect for master planning and interior concepts for the world’s largest private residence superyacht, Somnio.
From the latin ‘to dream’, Somnio has been dubbed within the industry as the first “Yacht Liner” due to its incredible 222m length. Featuring 39 onboard apartments Somnio will be the world’s largest private residence superyacht. Working in close collaboration with Winch Design, Tillberg Design of Sweden is more than delighted to be trusted with the designing of this luxury superyacht.
Daniel Nerhagen, Tillberg Design of Sweden Partner and Yacht Director, says: "Somnio can be seen as an evolution of two industries coming together. In this project, we merge the best of these worlds. The commercial build process for efficiency in combination with design, quality and craftsmanship from the superyacht industry. Yachts have grown bigger and bigger, and I see shared knowledge and hybrid projects as a natural step for the industry in the coming years. All of this gives the owners the best value for their investment."
The design of the yacht has been developed, alongside a client team, with optimal flows, and impeccable tailored layouts, the purpose of which is to enhance the guest experience and crew operations throughout the yacht. In order to emulate the authentic yachting ambiance inside the vessel, the interior of the yacht has been designed using materials such as crafted wood, elegant leather and exclusively designed textiles.
Fredrik Johansson, Tillberg Design of Sweden Partner and Executive Director says, "It really is a unique project, and the level of ambition from the stakeholders is truly exceptional. We are applying all the combined experience we have from our work within private yachts, effective master planning of large vessels, as well as our deep understanding of residential life at sea. The outcome will be like nothing else that exists today; it will be dream-like. The way the yacht is planned and equipped, and the interior and exterior design, together with the standard of outfitting, will make it as close to living on a private yacht that you can get without buying one of your own.”
The itinerary of this behemoth superyacht is just about as monumental as the yacht itself. With plans to explore all corners of the globe including: cruising the Mediterranean, crossing to New York, sailing the South Pacific and undertaking expeditions in Antarctica.
When the yacht liner has reached completion in mid-2024, the amenities onboard will be spectacular and will include: a 10,000 bottle wine cellar, fine-dining restaurants and bars, and an onboard beach club with water sports facilities to name a few.
A number of different apartments, sizes and layouts have been developed for Somnio through the designing processes and all 39 are already being sold. Obtention of said apartments is being kept strictly private and is entirely invitation or referral based. The names of the owners of the world’s largest private residential superyacht are also being held strictly underwraps and will reportedly remain as such.
"Somnio can be seen as an evolution of two industries coming together. In this project, we merge the best of these worlds. The commercial build process for efficiency in combination with design, quality and craftmanship from the superyacht industry." Daniel Nerhagen, TDoS Partner and Yacht Director

2025 soll die „Somnio“ in See stechen

That seems to be the question posed by the designers of Somnio , the world’s first “yacht liner.” The epic vessel not only spans a staggering 728 feet, it offers 39 luxury apartments ready for well-heeled seafarers to live out their own lavish life aquatic.
The gigayacht was penned by Winch Design in partnership with Tillberg Design and aims to pair the best parts of superyacht living with the services and amenities of the finest five-star hotels.

The build, which is expected to cost in the ballpark of $600 million, will be carried out by Norwegian yard Vard under the watchful eye of Somnio co-founder Captain Erik Bredhe. Bredhe previously helmed The World , another epic residential vessel, though says Somnio will better mirror the intimacy of a private yacht.
“ The World has been a phenomenal success, though it is time for true superyacht co-ownership,” Bredhe said in a statement.
The exclusive condos, which start from $11.2 million, will be available by invitation or referral only, and the identity of each new owner will remain a “tightly guarded secret.” In addition to that privacy, those on board will live in the lap of luxury.
Each apartment is fully customizable and can be outfitted with multiple cabins, plus a well-appointed kitchen, gym, library and walk-in wardrobe. They will also offer indoor/outdoor dining spaces for entertaining.

On top of that, Somnio comes with pinch-yourself shared amenities. Owners will have access to a spectacular 10,000-bottle wine cellar and tasting room, along with a spate of restaurants and bars. A highlight is the lounge in the ship’s bow, which will reportedly offer “spectacular views” while under sail. Elsewhere, there’s a sprawling beach club complete with water-sports facilities as well as myriad pools on the main deck.
Naturally, there is a full concierge service to cater to your needs on land and at sea. There is also world-class medical care available onboard to keep the crew and residents safe and healthy.
As for exploration, Somnio is equipped to travel to all four corners of the globe, from short stints in the Mediterranean to expeditions in Antarctica.
“Somnio will be the only residential superyacht in the world and has been designed to exacting standards that are commensurate with a life of opportunity,” Bredhe adds. “Owners will share a truly unique lifestyle at sea, with a hand-picked crew and a never-ending global itinerary of carefully selected destinations and experiences befitting a yacht of this nature.”
Somnio will be equipped with advanced research equipment that scientists and marine experts will use to explore the various ocean environments. The scientists will also regularly update owners on pressing environmental and philanthropic issues.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported
B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.
Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.
Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.
Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.
Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.
The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.
Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."
More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.
Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.
The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."
The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.
On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.
The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.
There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP
!{Model.Description}
The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.
The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.
The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.
Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.
