Owner spent millions on the current re-fit before leaving project 80% finished, thus the opportunity. Built 1970 by Mjellem & Karlsen Norway for Norwegian Government as an ice-class Fisheries patrol vessel. The transformation to a Global Expedition Vessel focused on underwater exploration is ready to be completed. Everything apart from Rolls-Royce/Bergen main engine has been replaced including all wiring, electric systems, pumps, piping and hydraulics. Finishing can be accomplished in 6-9 months.

The Conversion

Previous owner bought this vessel for a reported 7 million Euro and has put several million Euro into upgrading the ship. The 'heavy-lifting' and Class-approved engineering has been done, saving the new owner many, many months of project work and project management. The vessel can still be customized to meet a new owner's mission and tastes.

This is probably a 6-9 month project to completion.

needed and painted. o Hull is measured and found solid, both outside hull and all inside hull

Built by Mjellem & Karlsen in Norway 1970 and has DNV ice class. Hull is steel and superstructure is aluminium.

New Heli-Deck

o Helicopter deck is new and has hydraulic gangway for passengers to easily move from helicopter deck to reception area in the bridge. The deck also has a fueling and foam fire system. The deck is hinged and conforms to the bow.

Diver Beach Club

Diver “beach club” in the stern can be lowered 2 meters under sea level. There is room in the hull for a dive decompression chamber.

Accommodation for up to 8 guests in 4 cabins, and up to 38 crew in 23 crew cabins. It is this broker's opinion that fewer crew cabins are needed, even with specialist dive-masters and sub operators. Crew space can be re- configured.

The guest cabins are currently configured as suites with their own living rooms. Experience suggests that guests usually prefer to be in the ship's salon rather than in their cabins. These suites could be reconfigured into more luxury guest cabins.

Much of the furniture and accommodation fabrication is in storage in the shipyard warehouse. 8 x Single and 15 x Double cabins

Explorer yacht OCEANXPLORER (ex.ALUCIA 2, VOLSTAD SURVEYOR) is one of the most advanced scientific research vessels on the water and soon to star in her very own National Geographic Blue Planet TV series ‘Mission OceanX’ chronicling her adventures and expeditions to some of the remotest and inhospitable locations in the world. Now, guests can take a look onboard at the research labs and extensive tender garage that are being used to advance knowledge of the world’s oceans and ecosystems.

Originally built in 2010 as a deep-sea survey vessel, she received an extensive conversion in 2018 that included the addition of chemical, biological and geophysical sampling tools, a centralised data integration system, a media centre and media-optimised scientific exploration vehicles.

These vehicles include an onboard helicopter stored in its own climate-controlled hangar, two manned Triton submersibles capable of reaching depths of more than 1,000m/3,280ft for up to eight hours, a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) that can go down to 6,000m/19,685ft. A 40-ton man-rated A-frame crane will launch and retrieve these submersibles, while dedicated deployment systems will launch and retrieve piloted and autonomous underwater drones, and oceanographic sensor platforms.

E/Y OCEANXPLORER has an optical modem capable of live streaming video and data from submersibles down in the depths of the ocean to social media feeds and classrooms. This is achieved using custom lighting rigs and housings to make her the only vessel in the world capable of imaging using 8K RED cameras 6,000m/19,685ft down in the depths.

Filmmaker and ocean explorer James Cameron, and the Avatar Alliance Foundation in consultation with production designer N.C. Page Buckner will stream the findings to worldwide audiences, revealing any and all scientific discoveries the moment they happen.

The six-part National Geographic series under the working title ‘Mission OceanX’ will be co-produced by OceanX Media, BBC Studios, and National Geographic Explorer James Cameron. The first season will centre on the North Atlantic Ocean and will have a premiere in 171 countries in 43 languages on the National Geographic channel. Potentially, a different region of the world’s oceans will be explored in any following series.

OCEANXPLORER is a 87.1 m Motor Yacht, built in Spain by Freire and delivered in 2010.

Her top speed is 16.5 kn and her cruising speed is 14.0 kn and her power comes from two Rolls Royce diesel electric engines. She has a gross tonnage of 5399.0 GT and a 18.0 m beam.

She was designed by Skipsteknisk and Gresham Yacht Design (2 other superyachts designed).

The naval architecture was developed by Skipsteknisk , and the interior of the yacht was designed by Gresham Yacht Design and Christina Fallah Design - she is built with a Aluminium and Steel deck, a Steel hull, and Aluminium and Steel superstructure.

OCEANXPLORER underwent a full-scale rebuild at Damen Yachting that finished in 2019.

OCEANXPLORER is in the top 5% by LOA in the world. She is one of 65 motor yachts in the 80-90m size range, and, compared to similarly sized motor yachts, her volume is 2925.66 GT above the average.

OCEANXPLORER is currently sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, the 5th most popular flag state for superyachts with a total of 438 yachts registered. Unique conversion design is by Italian design house Bassan & Benedetti. As Design et al writes, "Travel, and living on the road, are the main guidelines of each of Bassan & Benedetti’s design choices, therefore embody the philosophy with which the guest lives and inhabits the boat. All this translates into the search for stylistic and cultural contaminations, methods, and functions of use of spaces, mirroring philosophies and traditions that tell stories of different lives and civilizations. This allows the guest to embark on a journey not only to rediscover the element of nature, but also to discover their own home on board the boat."

U.S. Built with CAT power, this is an all-weather, long-range global expedition conversion project that starts with an ocean-proven hull built as part of a series for the offshore oil industry. It has DPS and conforms to ABS specs and class rules. This vessel can be converted in 14-18 months at a fraction of the cost of a 'white boat', but will deliver more load-carrying for toys and tenders, longer-range and endurance, and a tougher vessel than you will find at a similar price.
