Two-Time Boat Of The Year Winner – The Able Apogee 50, with her purposeful design and stellar offshore performance, has the unique distinction of earning the highest honor bestowed in yachting not once, but twice. The Apogee 50 first won Cruising World’s coveted Boat Of The Year award in 1994. Following a successful production run of 9 vessels, the Apogee molds were purchased by Tom Morris of Morris Yachts who was looking to add a fast, bluewater cruiser with long legs to the Morris lineup. The Apogee was dubbed the Morris 51 and went on to win Boat Of The Year again in 2003, cementing the legendary status of this boat design in cruising circles the world over.

EXTERIOR SPACES

With a flush foredeck, wide side decks, and a clean, uncluttered rigging layout, the Apogee 51 has all the hallmarks of a true passage maker. At the helm, outstanding visibility on all points of sail is evident. Her hard dodger offers safe and dry seating while underway, and generous space in the aft cockpit allows for comfortable entertaining, cocktails, and dining.

HULL & DECK

Built by Maine craftsmen to the highest standard, the legendary Able construction lives up to its reputation. Chuck Paine’s design has proven fast and capable in a full range of conditions. The use of Baltek coring, Kevlar, and the omission of coring materials around thru-hulls offers a light, stiff hull that is sure to remain dry. Designed with passage making in mind, the deck is functional in layout and uncluttered.

The Apogee 50 features a powerful sail plan with a high aspect ratio that delivers a great turn of speed. Her inboard and outboard genoa leads allow for a myriad of options when choosing sheeting angles to optimize performance. A Leisure Furl boom ensures that shortening sail is drama free and eliminates the need to go forward. Rig up the a-sail for reaching angles and watch this thoroughbred stretch her legs.

INTERIOR SPACES

Renegade’s interior offers the perfect balance of comfort and functionality. Just through the companionway you will find the nav station to starboard and galley to port. Her generous salon and large table can accommodate 7 for dining. With a master cabin forward and VIP accommodation aft, the interior arrangement provides privacy for owners and guests.

The U-shaped galley is functional and spacious with a design that lends itself to comfort and security underway. A large refrigerator and freezer will ensure you can carry ample provisions for extended cruising. Cooking is a joy with ample storage outboard and aft, deep twin stainless steel sinks, and generous counter space.

The spacious master forward boasts a queen berth, settee, and ensuite washer dryer. Forward of the master is access to a large storage area through a watertight bulkhead door. The aft cabin features a large berth with generous storage. Both cabins are clad in cherry offering a warm, cozy ambiance.

Renegade’s current owners moved straight into a refit upon acquiring her. She was thoroughly refreshed with all systems being upgraded or replaced over the period from 2018-2019. Not stopping there, they have continually maintained her in Bristol fashion.

Owner: The master suite is situated full width on the forward main deck (almost 37' wide) with two walks in closets, settee, make-up area and private office.  The office area has oversized floor to ceiling windows and is the perfect retreat to do some business while enjoying the cruising onboard.  His and hers en-suite bathrooms are forward of the bed, and both have bidets, head and shower with a central Jacuzzi bathtub between. Guests: On the lower deck midship, there are two (2) cabins with queen beds and two (2) cabins with twin beds (plus each twin-bedded cabin has a Pullman berth) plus a double VIP cabin on the bridge deck.  There is also a guest/staff cabin located aft of the master on the main deck that can be used as a cabin or as a children's playroom, etc.  All guest cabins are finished in mahogany, and each has its own unique decor package. New beach tents, tables, chairs, etc. New teak work on swim platform and other small areas. 2013: Complete paint job and extensive work throughout the interior and exterior. 2012: Interior woodwork and flooring refinished, all exterior canvas and awnings replaced, galley up-dated. 2005: Hull painted, broadband antenna installed for high-speed internet connection and video conferencing, Lloyd's hull survey and Lloyds annual survey. She performs 2 maintenance periods each year to keep the yacht in excellent condition.

Interior designed by Franco and Anna Della Role and built by Italian shipyard Codecasa in 2003, 62.5m Apogee is a sleek cruising displacement motor yacht combining space and privacy at every turn. Impeccably maintained by one owner since delivery and last refit in 2019, the large and airy interior, defined by hard wood panelling and rich, relaxing furniture, oozes classic Italian appeal.

Offering panoramic views of the alluring surroundings and coupled with spacious seating, it’s an enticing area to cool off, warm up or simply drink in the sun set scenery with a few sun downers in hand.

Calling All Cocktails

Channelling the greatest members’ club in the world, Apogee’s sky lounge boasts one of the longest bars ever featured on a yacht. Six sumptuous leather clad armchairs sit opposite a mirrored cocktail bar with room enough for three bartenders. Subtle lighting, games of chess and opulent sofas round off the Groucho’s vibe.

Outdoor Haven

Contained within Apogee’s sprawling deck space is a litany of outdoor lounging areas. Al fresco dining, a stretched wet bar, elaborate sofas and expansive sun beds create a floating paradise for both sun worshipers and shade seekers alike. There’s even a morning coffee nook on the sundeck forward, ideal for starting the day the right way.

Apogee’s fully equipped glass-encased gym provides inspiring views while working out. From treadmills and elliptical steppers to a range of free weights equipment and cycle machines, the spacious area directly opens onto the shaded aft deck, with cool sea breezes ventilating the gym whenever needed.

Splish, Splash

Alongside four two-seater Waverunners that neatly store on the foredeck, Apogee carries a 5m Novurania Launch 600 Jet tender and a 7m custom-built Novurania Chase 23. Paired with waterskis, scooters and wakeboards, the boat even hosts an array of inflatables – including a towable banana – and a bevy of diving gear equipped with a dive compressor, so guests never miss out on the action, above or below the water.

Superyacht APOGEE is fully-equipped for world cruising and far flung exploration amongst accommodation and amenities that represent the pinnacle of luxury.

The 62.5m/205'1" 'Apogee' motor yacht built by the Italian shipyard Codecasa is available for charter for up to 12 guests in 7 cabins. This yacht features interior styling by Della Role Design.

From bow to stern, Apogee is brimming with an fantastic array of social and dining areas, both inside and out, making her the ideal yacht for relaxing and entertaining whilst on charter. She has sensational features such as an elevator and gym.

Guest Accommodation

Families will particularly love Apogee thanks to her child-friendly setup. Built in 2003, She offers guest accommodation for up to 12 guests with a layout comprising a master suite, three double cabins, two twin cabins and one cabin that can operate as twin or double. There are 13 beds in total, including 4 king, 4 singles and 4 pullmans. She is also capable of carrying up to 17 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

You and your guests can enjoy a variety of experiences on Apogee, notably a gym with all the latest equipment to maintain your fitness routine. Soak up the bubbles in style in the deck jacuzzi.

Whatever your activities on your charter, you'll find some impressive features are seamlessly integrated to help you, notably an elevator, making any part of the yacht quickly and easily accessible. With Wi-Fi connectivity you don't have to lose contact with the outside world, unless you want to and in addition guests will experience complete comfort while chartering thanks to air conditioning.

Performance & Range

Apogee is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 11 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 17 knots with a range of up to 7,000 nautical miles from her 160,000 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. An advanced stabilisation system on board reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht and promises guests exceptional comfort levels at anchor or when underway.

Onboard Apogee has a range of toys and accessories to keep you and your guests entertained on the water throughout your stay. Guests can experience the thrill and adventure of riding one of the four Yamaha VX Cruiser WaveRunners. In addition there are towable toys offering fun and adventure. Also there are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. If that isn't enough Apogee also features wakeboards, kayaks, fishing equipment, scuba diving equipment and snorkelling equipment. Apogee features two tenders, but leading the pack is a 7m/23' Novurania Limo Tender to transport you in style.

Apogee is available upon request for charter this winter. She is already accepting bookings this summer for cruising in the Mediterranean.

Russian oligarch's yacht is costing U.S. taxpayers close to $1 million a month

A mega-yacht seized by U.S. authorities from a Russian oligarch is costing the government nearly $1 million a month to maintain, according to new court filings.

• The Justice Department is seeking permission to sell Amadea, which it seized in 2022, alleging that it was owned by sanctioned Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov.
• Attorneys for Eduard Khudainatov, an ex-Rosneft CEO who has not been sanctioned, say he owns the yacht, and have sought to take back possession of the vessel.

The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking permission to sell a 348-foot yacht called Amadea, which it seized in 2022, alleging that it was owned by sanctioned Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov. The government said it wants to sell the $230 million yacht due to the "excessive costs" of maintenance and crew, which it said could total $922,000 a month.

"It is excessive for taxpayers to pay nearly a million dollars per month to maintain the Amadea when these expenses could be reduced to zero through [a] sale," according to a court filing by U.S. prosecutors on Friday.

The monthly charges for Amadea, which is now docked in San Diego, California, include $600,000 per month in running costs: $360,000 for the crew; $75,000 for fuel; and $165,000 for maintenance, waste removal, food and other expenses. They also include $144,000 in monthly pro-rata insurance costs and special charges including dry-docking fees, at $178,000, bringing the total to $922,000, according to the filings.

The battle over Amadea and the costs to the government highlight the financial and legal challenges of seizing and selling assets owned by Russian oligarchs after the country's invasion of Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said last week that the European Union should use profits from more than $200 billion of frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine's war effort.

Her comments echoed government calls in the spring of 2022 to freeze the yachts, private jets and mansions of Russian billionaires in hopes of putting pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and raising money for the war effort.

Yet, nearly two years later, the legal process for proving ownership of the Russian assets and selling them has proven to be far more time-consuming and costly. In London, Russian billionaire Eugene Shvidler has waged a court battle over his private jets that were impounded, and Sergei Naumenko has been appealing the detention of his superyacht Phi.

The battle over Amadea began in April 2022, when it was seized in Fiji at the request of the U.S. government, according to the court filings.

Though the U.S. alleges that the yacht is owned by Kerimov, who made his fortune in mining, attorneys for Eduard Khudainatov, an ex-Rosneft CEO who has not been sanctioned, say he owns the yacht, and have sought to take back possession of the vessel.

In court filings, Khudainatov's attorneys have objected to the U.S. government's efforts to sell the yacht, saying a rushed sale could lead to a distressed sale price and that the maintenance costs are minor relative to the potential sale value.

Khudainatov's attorneys refuse to pay the ongoing maintenance costs as long as the government pursues a sale and forfeiture. However, they say their client will reimburse the U.S. government for the more than $20 million already spent to maintain the yacht if it's returned to its proper owner.

In court papers, the government says Kerimov disguised his ownership of Amadea through a series of shell companies and other owners. They say emails between crew members show Kerimov "was the beneficial owner of the yacht, irrespective of the titleholder of the vessel."

The emails show that Kerimov and his family ordered several interior improvements of the yacht, including a new pizza oven and spa, and that between 2021 and 2022, when the boat was seized, "there were no guest trips on the Amadea that did not include either Kerimov or his family members," according to the court filings.

The government also says Kerimov has been trying to sell Amadea for years, so a sale would be in keeping with his intent.

"This is not a situation in which a court would be ordering sale of a precious heirloom that a claimant desperately wishes to keep for sentimental reasons," the government said in filings.

Even if Amadea were sold quickly, the proceeds wouldn't automatically go to the government. Under law, the money would be held while Khudainatov and the government continue their battle in court over the ownership and forfeiture. Don't miss these stories from CNBC PRO:
