1. Wander the jaw-dropping gardens

You can’t miss Gaylord Opryland’s lush gardens — literally. Tropical vegetation covers more than nine indoor acres. The resort’s cascading waterfalls, the tallest of which is 44-feet high, make you feel as if you’re on a faraway island. Lose yourself in wonder as you discover giant palms, stunning orchids, and even banana trees. You won’t find those growing natively in Tennessee, but thanks to the atrium’s glass ceiling and horticulturists’ meticulous control of the building’s humidity, these plants thrive as if they were in the jungle.

2. Hop aboard the Delta Riverboat ...

Sailing all the world’s rivers would take years, but you can conquer many in a single ride aboard the Delta Riverboat. The resort’s quarter-mile-long indoor Delta River contains the water of more than 1,700 rivers from around the globe. Hop aboard a fun-filled cruise and learn about the interesting origins of the hotel, one of the largest in the world. Be on the lookout for resort’s finned guests. Catfish, carp, and koi can all be found in the Delta River.

3. ... or take a cruise on the General Jackson Showboat

If you want an even grander adventure on the water, look no further than to the  General Jackson Showboat , which is docked just a short distance away from the resort. This stately steamboat harks to its 19th-century predecessors that sailed along the Cumberland River, putting Nashville on the map as a trading center.

On the popular midday Taste of Tennessee cruise, get a sampling of the many styles of music that made this state famous — from bluegrass to country to rhythm and blues — all while enjoying a three-course meal and views of iconic Nashville landmarks along the way.

4. Splash around at SoundWaves

In true Nashville fashion, music and water blend harmoniously at  SoundWaves,  the city’s only resort water experience. If you’re a thrill-seeker, jump in a mega raft and enjoy the ride on Rapid Remix, a waterslide that pumps out the jams as you take on vortex loops. Looking for a mellower experience? The Down Tempo Lazy River has got you covered with relaxing music that you can float along to. When you’ve worked up an appetite, head to Decibels where you can enjoy live music every weekend through September on the restaurant’s patio.

5. Come see us at the Grand Ole Opry

When you stay at the resort, you’re also staying next door to where country music lives. The Grand Ole Opry is “the show that made country music famous,” featuring your favorite legends, today’s superstars, and tomorrow’s hit-makers. Eight to 12 artists take the stage at each show, and luckily for resort guests, Nashville’s best entertainment is just a short complimentary shuttle ride or leisurely stroll away.

But don’t wait until showtime to experience the Opry magic. The brand-new immersive theater experience, now part of the  daytime tour,  is a moving tribute to the country music artists who’ve walked across  Opry’s iconic 6-foot circle of wood,  which sits centerstage. “I’ve always said that the circle still contains the dust from Hank Williams’ cowboy boots,” Opry member Brad Paisley has said. Now your boots can walk across it, too.

6. See WSM broadcast live at its fish-bowl studio

Have you ever wondered to yourself if your favorite radio personalities look the way they sound? You won’t have to anymore when you swing by the WSM fishbowl-style studio just off the Magnolia lobby. The radio station that gave birth to the Grand Ole Opry in 1925, 650 AM WSM, still broadcasts live from Nashville inside the Gaylord Opryland.

You’ll get an intimate peek of the radio show’s operations. Start your day with some early-morning banter courtesy of  country radio sentinel Bill Cody  and Charlie Mattos’ on  Coffee, Country, and Cody  — you never know when one of your favorite artists might be in studio — and close out your evening with some classic country tunes that Eddie Stubbs is spinning on  The Eddie Stubbs Show.

7. Pose next to your idols at Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds  has a number of locations around the world, but its Nashville wax attraction located inside Opry Mills Mall is the only one that’s completely themed around music, featuring more than 50 wax figures, 30 of which are unique to Music City. In the Opry Finale exhibit, you’ll get to make your debut alongside Opry members Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Alan Jackson, Keith Urban and more. Don’t forget to take a selfie!

Gaylord Opryland has a manmade river running through it, so you gotta ride on the Delta Riverboat to get the full resort experience. The boat ride lasts about 15 minutes, goes slow enough but isn't too slow, and it's a good activity for all ages. We've been on this boat ride a few times. The first time was just a general ride, where we went around the river and the boat driver told us some trivia about the hotel. He pointed out things, such as a red line that indicated where the water level rose to in the hotel during a particularly bad storm many years ago. Throughout the year, they'll offer themed boat rides, like a Pirates & Princesses boat ride, with costumed actors you meet along the way. We also got some treasure at the end (a chocolate gold coin)! There are lots of fun things for individuals and families to do at Gaylord Opryland, and this is one of them.

We loved this boat ride, our tour guide was wonderful. When we bought tickets, the girl said you get a discount if you are staying at the resort. We were staying across the street and did pay a resort fee, so the guide said we should get the discount. The clerk really didn't want to give us $3 off our ride, but our friendly guide insisted. There are waterfalls and so many beautiful trees and plants in Opryland and this is a great way to see it. Great for adults and kids.

Nashville police continue search for missing Mizzou student Riley Strain

delta riverboat nashville

Police in Tennessee continue to search for Riley Strain, a college student who went missing in Nashville after traveling there from the University of Missouri.

Strain, 22, traveled to the Music City to attend his fraternity's annual spring formal, University of Missouri Associate Director of Public Affairs Travis Zimpher told USA TODAY on Tuesday.

According to a missing person's report, Strain was last seen by friends after he got kicked out of Luke Bryan's 32 Food + Bridge , a bar and restaurant opened by the country singer in 2018.

That night, friends tried to locate Strain using social media apps on his phone, but were unsuccessful, the report said. Friends also called Strain's phone, but their calls went to voicemail, police said.

The University of Missouri said in a news release Monday that Strain was in Nashville for a private event.

"We're hopeful to hear something," Zimpher said.

When was Riley Strain last seen?

Nashville police said Strain was last seen on Gay Street at 9:52 p.m. Friday after drinking downtown at a bar along the city's popular Broadway strip.

On Tuesday, police released video footage showing Strain walking by himself along Gay Street around 9:50 p.m. and crossing 1st Avenue. Strain stops and starts and appears a bit wobbly on his feet, the video shows. He looks at other pedestrians and does a 360-degree turn before continuing to walk down the sidewalk, the video shows.

Police said they searched the area Monday, including the banks of the nearby Cumberland River, but found nothing. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said it's continuing to investigate Strain's disappearance.

Strain's parents said he was asked to leave a bar Friday night, FOX 2 in St. Louis reported . He told his friends he was going back to their hotel but never arrived, according to the outlet.

"This is not like him at all," Strain's mother, Michelle Whiteid, told FOX 17 in Nashville , explaining her son usually calls and texts her throughout the day.

Whiteid and her husband Christopher Whiteid traveled to Nashville from Springfield, Missouri, to look for their son, police said.

Strain is member of Delta Chi fraternity, group says

University of Missouri officials said they have been in touch with Strain's family.

In a Facebook post, the Delta Chi Fraternity said Strain is a member of the group's Missouri Chapter, and it urged the public to spread the word about Strain's disappearance. "The Delta Chi Fraternity is deeply concerned for the safety of #RileyStrain , a valued member of our Missouri Chapter," the group posted Monday.

The fraternity also said in a statement they're "actively engaged" with the University of Missouri, where officials are providing in-person resources for local chapter members.

“The safety of our community is our highest priority,” said Angela King Taylor, the University of Missouri's interim vice chancellor for student affairs. “Our thoughts are with Riley’s family as the search continues."

A 22-year-old college student has vanished after being “overserved” and kicked out from a Nashville bar owned by country artist Luke Bryan Friday, his family and police said.

Riley Strain was last seen by his University of Missouri fraternity brothers at Luke’s 32 Bridge Food + Drink on Broadway in the Tennessee city’s touristy honky-tonk district, according to police and The St. Louis Dispatch .

Strain was tossed from the bar and then told his friends he was going back to their hotel, his stepfather Christopher Whiteid told the newspaper.

Riley Strain was last seen at Luke Bryan's bar in Nashville.

However, the 6-foot-5 student never arrived or further contacted his friends, who filed a missing persons report with the cops the next day, the newspaper reported.

His phone last pinged between Gay Street and James Robertson Parkway, which is less than a mile from the bar and just yards from the Cumberland River and the Woodland Street Bridge.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed that Stain was headed back to his hotel on foot but apparently made a wrong turn.

The university confirmed in a statement Monday that Strain was still missing and said it was “in touch with the family and authorities in Nashville” as the search continued.

As the search dragged on, the family of the Delta Chi frat member had gone to Nashville to search for him and was in “pure hell,” Whiteid told The Dispatch.

Officers continue to work to locate missing person Riley Strain, 22, who was last seen Fri. night by friends @ a Broadway bar in Nashville. Riley is from Missouri and was visiting. The student had reportedly been kicked out of the bar because he was drunk.

“The bartender said he had been overserved,” Whiteid told WZTV-Nashville . “He was trying to pay his tab.”

“This is definitely the worst nightmare,” the stepdad added. “He talks to his mom three or four times a day. For him to go this long without talking is not normal by any means.”

Search for Riley Strain scaled back as new investigation begins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Boats did not resume searching the Cumberland River on Wednesday for Riley Strain, as the Metro Nashville Police Department said detectives were shifting their focus to reviewing security video of the missing college student.

The 22-year-old University of Missouri senior disappeared in Nashville on Friday night after being kicked out of Luke Bryan’s bar on Lower Broadway, Luke’s 32 Bridge.

Strain was last seen on camera near the river while crossing 1st Ave. North at Gay Street around 9:47 p.m.

His phone was last tracked near Public Square Park along the Cumberland River.

Office of Emergency Management crews searched the river for hours on Tuesday with boats and specially equipped drones but found nothing. Strain’s family also went 14 miles down the river in a boat with a non-profit organization.

“The sad part of this situation is every day we get new leads and go down different avenues,” family friend Chris Dingman said. “We’re going to get there, but it also opens up more doors on what could’ve possibly happened.”

PREVIOUS COVERAGE: ‘I feel so bad’: Man says he saw Mizzou student walking through Nashville before disappearance

Dingman said they walked along the banks of the river and stopped at several homeless camps. One person recognized Strain from a photo but did not remember where he went.

The Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) opened an investigation on Wednesday into whether Luke Bryan’s bar violated state law by overserving Strain before removing him from the bar.

“There are no specific rules or statutes that governs escorting out intoxicated patrons from their businesses or providing assistance in getting someone home,” a TABC spokesperson said. “However, state law prohibits serving alcoholic beverages to someone who is visibly intoxicated.”

Owner of Luke’s 32 Bridge, TC Restaurant Group, said in a Tuesday statement they are working with officials to provide security video and other helpful information in the investigation into Strain vanishing. Bryan posted on Instagram Tuesday calling the situation “scary” and said he was praying for the 22-year-old’s safety.

Benton McDonough, Executive Director of the Metro Beer Board and Mayor’s Office of Nightlife, said the city cannot require training for anyone possessing a TABC license or server card. Instead, they encourage people working in the Entertainment District to participate in the Safe Bar program to know how to recognize and intervene when someone is in danger.

Entertainment District police officers also work with bar owners and managers, so they feel comfortable asking for help anytime there is a problem.

“We want people to come here and have a great time, but people need to remember that this is also a major metropolitan city,” McDonough said. “We want everyone to have a plan in how they traverse the city, travel with friends, and always be aware of their surroundings.”

Strain was caught on several security cameras stumbling — and sometimes falling — down the sidewalk. Instead of heading toward the hotel he had told his Delta Chi fraternity brothers he was going to, he walked in the opposite direction after they allowed him to leave the bar alone.

Strain’s fraternity brothers did not call 911 to report Strain missing for nearly 16 hours after he was last seen.

“They are truly distraught on the situation,” Dingman said about Strain’s friends. “I will be honest with you, I was young at one time and used to run around with the boys. What happened at the bar is truly a horrible thing that happened. We’ve all been in those situations where you think your buddy is ok, you turn around, and 60 seconds later you can’t find him.”

The fraternity formal was not a university-sanctioned event, according to a Mizzou spokesperson. Dingman said the group of more than 30 people took a bus to Nashville on Friday afternoon and returned to campus on Sunday without Strain.

A Delta Chi spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

Dingman said this is a terrible situation, but Strain’s family is holding out hope he is alive. Friends are gathering at the high school in his hometown of Springfield, Missouri on Wednesday night for a candlelight vigil.

“Police are doing their job 100%,” Dingman said. “We just want to find Riley and get him home. Get him to his mom and dad, get him to campus, get him back to doing fun stuff at MU.”

Police are asking anyone with information about what happened to Strain to contact detectives.

University of Missouri student, 22, missing after he was asked to leave Nashville bar during fraternity trip

A family is pleading for answers in the search for a University of Missouri student who has been missing since Friday after he left a bar in Nashville, Tennessee.

Riley Strain, 22, a senior, was last seen Friday night by friends at a bar in Nashville’s bustling Broadway area, known for nightlife, Nashville p olice said.

He was visiting town with his Delta Chi fraternity brothers for their spring formal, t he St. Louis -Post Dispatch reported, but they got separated after he was asked to leave country singer Luke Bryan's bar, Luke’s 32 Bridge Food + Drink, his family told NBC affiliate WSMV of Nashville .

“At approximately 9:45 p.m., he was asked to leave Luke Bryan’s bar,” Strain’s stepfather, Chris Whiteid, told the station. “They got separated. The boys called him, and he said, 'I’m walking back to my hotel.' They didn’t think anything about it.”

When his friends returned to Tempo Hotel, about a half-mile away, they saw Strain’s room key but no sign of him. When they tried to call him, his phone was dead.

The young men went out to search for him, checked his Snapchat locations, and they went through the other fraternity brothers’ rooms but did not find him, so they called his parents.

Whiteid, along with his wife, Michelle Whiteid, traveled from Springfield, Missouri, to Nashville to search for him.

“We talk every day, multiple times a day,” Michelle Whiteid said. “This is the longest I’ve ever gone without talking to him.”

“We’re in a bad dream. Can we wake up? Please, just let us wake up,” her husband told WSMV.

Chris Whiteid told NBC News in an interview on Top Story with Tom Llamas on Tuesday that Strain never made it back to the hotel, and it's out of character for him to not be in touch with their family.

“It’s very odd. Friday night when they got there, he had sent pictures, he called,” Whiteid said. "Yes, we’re hurting and everything, but right now we’re still expecting a positive outcome. ”

Riley Strain

Chris Whiteid told the Post-Dispatch that according to security video, it appeared that Strain was heading back to the hotel but took a wrong turn. It's not clear where the video was from.

Searches took place Monday, including a helicopter search of Gay Street, the area where Strain was last seen, the riverbank and a ground search, “but to no avail,” police said .

On Tuesday, police shared s ec u rity video showing Strain, wearing a two-tone shirt, crossing 1st Avenue North to Gay Street at 9:47 p.m. Friday. That cross-section is about 0.7 miles from the bar he was at earlier.

Strain's family has also been canvassing the area and speaking to the homeless to see if anyone has sighted Strain.

TC Restaurant Group, the operator and owner of Luke’s 32 Bridge, said it, too, was working with police to provide security camera video and other potentially helpful information to aid in the search.

Strain is described as 6-foot-5 with a thin build, blue eyes and light brown hair.

The University of Missouri said in a news release Monday that school officials were alerted over the weekend that Strain was missing after having traveled to Nashville to “attend a private event.”

The school has been in touch with his family and Nashville authorities. It said counseling resources are available to the campus community.

“The safety of our community is our highest priority,” the interim vice chancellor for student affairs, Angela King Taylor, said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with Riley’s family as the search continues. We will be offering any support to them that we can, and we encourage anyone who needs help to reach out to our counseling resources.”

The Delta Chi fraternity said in a statement Monday that it was aware that Strain had been reported missing and that it is “actively engaged” with university officials.

“Delta Chi is hopeful for Riley’s safe return; our thoughts are with his family and the members of the Missouri Chapter during this time,” the organization said.

Anyone who has seen Strain is urged to call Metropolitan Nashville Police at (615)-862-8600.

National News | University of Missouri student missing after being asked to leave Luke Bryan’s Nashville bar

University of Missouri student Riley Strain, who went missing in Nashville on Friday.

Nashville police on Tuesday released security camera footage of a University of Missouri student who has been missing since Friday, as an intensive search continues.

In the grainy video, 22-year-old Riley Strain can be seen walking down the street and apparently making a wrong turn before leaving the frame.

Asked to leave a downtown Nashville bar owned by country star Luke Bryan, Strain had told his friends he would walk back to his hotel. When they returned, they found his room key but nothing else. They called him, but his phone was apparently dead.

A subsequent search for Strain’s whereabouts via phone pings and Snapchat location information also led nowhere. They searched his fraternity brothers’ hotel rooms and came up empty.

Strain and his Delta Chi fraternity brothers had traveled to Nashville for their annual spring formal and were “out and about,” his stepfather, Chris Whiteid, told WSMV.

“At approximately 9:45 p.m., he was asked to leave Luke Bryan’s bar . They got separated. The boys called him, and he said, ‘I’m walking back to my hotel.’ They didn’t think anything about it,” Whiteid said.

Police did not say why Strain had been asked to leave to bar.

Their hotel was six blocks away, but in the opposite direction from where Strain seemed to be headed. The friend who reported Strain missing said his phone last pinged near the river at about 11 p.m. that night, WKRN reported.

Police described Strain as “ 6’5″ tall with a thin build, blue eyes and light brown hair .”

Strain’s parents rushed to the city from their home in Springfield, Mo., to help look for their missing son, they told WSMV. Police have searched extensively, both on the ground and via helicopter above the riverbank and Gay Street, where the surveillance footage was from.

The University of Missouri offered counseling services and other support to Strain’s classmates and those searching for the missing college senior and had “ been in touch with the family and authorities in Nashville who are working to find Strain,” noting that the trip was a “private event” not sponsored by the school.

“The safety of our community is our highest priority,” interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs Angela King Taylor said in the statement. “Our thoughts are with Riley’s family as the search continues. We will be offering any support to them that we can, and we encourage anyone who needs help to reach out to our counseling resources.”

Bryan has not commented publicly about the disappearance. The Daily News has reached out to his representatives.

Luke Bryan shares prayers for Missouri student Riley Strain who went missing in Nashville after going to his bar

delta riverboat nashville

Luke Bryan posted a statement following a University of Missouri student's disappearance after attending his Nashville Bar.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department , Riley Strain was last seen by friends Friday night at a Lower Broadway bar. Strain, 22, was out with a group of Delta Chi fraternity brothers when he got kicked out of Luke Bryan's Luke's 32 Bridge bar about 10 p.m.

On Tuesday, Bryan shared information from MNPD via Instagram stories and urged people to reach out should they have any information.

"Y'all, this is scary," said Bryan. "Praying for his safe return."

TC Restaurant Group, operator and owner of Luke's 32 Bridge, said they are continuing to work closely with the MNPD to provide any security camera footage and any other potentially helpful information.

"Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones for his safe return," said TC Restaurant Group.

On Tuesday, The Office of Emergency Management launched a boat to search the Cumberland River for Strain in a coordinated effort with police, spokesperson Kendra Loney said. However, officials so far found nothing.

Strain is 6'5" tall with a thin build, blue eyes and light brown hair. The investigation as to his whereabouts is still active, anyone with information is encouraged to call Metro Police at 615-862-8600 or the MU Police Department at 573-882-7201.
