In October 2016, Brent and I flew into Marmaris, Turkey for our first encounter with the new Hanse 57, Mariner. The cruising grounds in this area are stunningly beautiful with wooded slopes right down to the waters edge and beautifully clear water. The weather we encountered was near perfect, 26 degrees, water temperature 23 degrees, and blue skies for 3 weeks! The Turkish people were extremely friendly and helpful. The local food and produce were lovely, and the Turkish wine and beer very drinkable. Our first trip was an outstanding success, and we look forward to our next adventure sailing the Aegean coast of Turkey and the Dodecanese islands of Greece in 2017.

SK-Yachting, thank you for making it a lovely holiday for us. We were very happy with the boat, the weather, the people and the wine! The Norwegian families Sterud and Orgland spent a beautiful week on Viktoria II. First Saturday evening to Ciftlik. Next day lunch in Serce Limani and diner, overnight in Bozuk Bükü. Next day lunch in Nay at Symi and overnight in Bozburun.

We are taking flight to new servers! Engineering teams at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology have been working hard for several months to migrate our core applications to more advanced cloud computing infrastructure. This transition will provide improved reliability, stability, and room to grow for the next 2 billion bird observations. To complete this process, it will be necessary to take our databases offline for an extended period.

The following Cornell Lab services will be unavailable starting 6am ET March 19 until 6am ET March 21:

• eBird.org, including eBird portals and email Alerts
• eBird API and data products
• Merlin Bird ID save sightings and refresh life list (only recent locations will be available for ID and Explore)
• BirdCast alerts and migration dashboard
• Birds of the World
• Bird Academy

You will also not be able to access any programs that require logging in with your Cornell Lab account during the outage.

We will be migrating our entire production database of more than 1.6 billion bird observations and associated project applications. That’s a lot to move! If everything goes smoothly, some services may begin to come back online late on March 20. However, we anticipate a full 48 hours before everything is running normally again. Watch for updates on our Facebook and Instagram .

What can I do while eBird is down?

Keep checklists with eBird Mobile. Download the free eBird Mobile app before 19 March. Start eBird Mobile checklists during the downtime and submit them once eBird is back online.

Get out and go birding! This is the perfect opportunity to create qualifying checklists for the March eBirder of the Month Challenge . Submit 31 complete checklists in March with counts for every species reported and you could win a pair of new ZEISS Binoculars.

There are no hotels at Moscow Vnukovo Airport. Eight kilometers southwest of the airport lies the Imperial Park Hotel & Spa (Tel. +7(0)495 428 58 28). Business hotels can of course be found in Moscow's center, including Holiday Inn Lesnaya (Tel. +7(0)495 783 6500), the Metropol Hotel (Tel. +7(0)495 723 5246), Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya (Tel. +7(0)495 627 5550), Baltschug Kempinski Hotel (Tel. +7(0)495 287 2000) and Marriott Grand Hotel (Tel. +7(0)495 937 0000). For more hotels and to book online, you can go to Booking.com . They offer a large range of hotels, at competitive internet rates.

Shops and restaurants

There's a fair number of restaurants, cafés, (snack) bars and shops, but for such a large airport the range is somewhat disappointing.

There are lockers as well as a counter to deposit your baggage near the baggage claim area in the international Terminal B. You pay 50 rubles per day (or part of it), 100 rubles for large suitcases. You can inquire about lost objects with the airport security.

You'll find several information desks in the different terminals for inquiries about Moscow Vnukovo Airport, flight schedules and airport services. Information by telephone via +7(0)495 937 5555.

In the international Terminal B there's a VIP lounge which offers a fax, a photocopier and computers with internet access. Travelers not flying First or Business Class pay an entrance fee of 720 rubles. Moscow Vnukovo Airport also has a separate VIP Hall (Tel. +7(0)495 436 8018) which is also used by heads of state and other dignitaries.

Disabled facilities

Moscow Vnukovo Airport has excellent accessibility for the disabled. There are wheelchair ramps, adapted elevators and toilets, low-hanging telephones and facilities for the hearing-impaired. For assistance you can call +7(0)495 436 8329.

Other services

You'll find banks, exchange offices and ATM's scattered around the terminals. There's a First Aid station near the baggage claim area. The airport also has a fully equipped medical clinic (Tel. +7(0)495 436 8329), for medical interventions.
