RM 1260 is a 39 ′ 4 ″ / 12 m monohull sailboat designed by Marc Lombard and built by RM Yachts starting in 2012.

Rig and Sails

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

With a fractional cutter rig and deck stepped aluminium mast and boom, it offers dynamic sailing performance fitted to perfection with Dynema running rigging, slab reefing mainsail with lazy stack pack and Facnor furlers for the genoa and staysail 2018. About this RM Yachts 1260

The RM1260 designed by renowned Marc Lombard is a stylish and sleek looking blue water cruiser that will appeal to sailors looking for comfort on board but also excellent sailing performance. Her hard chines only add to her sporty appearance. This is a fast boat. But don’t be deceived, the RM1260 has one of the most comfortable interiors- inviting and accommodating. The large cockpit and spacious layout below are modern and bright and great for entertaining. Hitchcock has been well maintained to the highest standards.

Accommodation

The layout offers up to seven berths in three cabins plus saloon. There is full standing headroom and good ventilation throughout. The forward cabin has a centre line double berth with custom mattress and wooden slated base for good ventilation and hanging lockers and shelves on either side. The saloon is light and spacious with comfortable settees (with lee cloths) on either side of the hull with shelving outboard of this. The folding saloon table can easily seat six. To port, the U-shaped galley has double stainless steel sinks with pressurised hot and cold water and manual seawater tap, fridge with two compartments, two-burner Eno cooker/oven and plenty of storage lockers. The forward facing chart table and seat and electrical panel are on the starboard side. Followed by full-size shower cubicle, washbasin and head. Aft of this to starboard is the ‘technical cabin’ with a single berth. A good sized double aft cabin lies to port with plenty of light and storage lockers. Construction

"Hitchcock" was built in La Rochelle, France by RM Yachts in 2013. She is the fin keel, twin rudder version. Plywood hull reinforced with external Kevlar coating for a very robust construction. Her hull is painted with Awlgrip Desert Sand and Awlgrip Cream. The hull was copper coated in 2017/18

Port Vauban at Antibes on the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur) is a perfect marina to start your cruise on the sailboat RM1260. Depending on the length of your rental, your Mediterranean cruise allows you to discover the “Cap d'Antibes”, the “Iles Lérins” in the bay of Cannes, the “Esterel” with its lovely creeks and bays such as Agay,  Bay of  St. Tropez, “Cap Taillat”, the Islands of “Porquerolles” or the extraordinarily creeks of Cassis.

Corsica and Sardinia is rather recommended for two week cruises.

During your holiday, our fast-cruiser RM1260 offers you 3 cabins, and all comfort and security that makes your Mediterranean sailing trip an remarkable moment with your friends / family. The RM1260 is equipped with the latest electronic equipment, such as multi-touch tactile gps/tracer, pilot, radar, sonar with downvision, audio sound system, etc.

With nearly 100m2 of sail (Genoa 49m2 and mainsail 50m2), and its displacement of 7.2 tons, you will enjoy top performance even at low wind (4-6kts). And as soon as the wind rises (>15kts), you just have to roll up the Genoa and open the Solent of 26m2 to continue your cruise in comfort and safety before taking reefs (>20kts). The RM1260’s maximum beam of 4.35m, mono keel 2.2t, draft of 2.25m and its bi-rudder ensures high stability during your cruise.

Cruising Proposal - French Riviera RM1260 (weekend / 1 week)

Leaving the Port Vauban of Antibes to the north-east, you cross the “Baie des Anges” and bay of Nice to anchor in the bay of “Villefranche” or around “Cap St. Ferrat”.

Leaving the Port Vauban of Antibes to the southwest, in direction of “Cap d'Antibes”, you will discover the “Iles Lérins” that invite you to an idyllic anchorage. Continuing along the coast, you cruise along the red coloured rocks of Esterel, with its many creeks to anchor / swim before heading to the bay of Agay that offers you a mooring on buoys (~ € 16 / night) and a shuttle service to reach the coast, the beach, shops, restaurants.

After Agay you pass the “Cap Dramont” with its turret on an island in the direction of St. Tropez. And why not a stopover in the port of St.Tropez? – Always worthwhile an experience !!! After St. Tropez, you may anchor at “Pampelonne” beach, or much better “Cap Taillat” which offers a sublime anchorage in Caribbean-style waters! Depending on the time that you have needed to reach “Cap Taillat” (about 40NM from the port of Antibes), you may still have time to make a trip to the islands of “Porquerolles” ....
