VivieRae is a semi-custom motor yacht launched in 2008 by Nordhavn Yachts and most recently refitted in 2014.

From the beginning, Nordhavn has taken the approach that full-displacement designs cruising at or below hull speed are the safest, most comfortable types of powerboats for long range cruising. And while Nordhavns are built to cross oceans, their seakeeping ability and rugged construction are equally beneficial for everyday coastal cruising. Better yet, their fuel-efficient designs are proving to be the most sensible and financially feasible ways to go cruising with today’s soaring fuel prices.

VivieRae measures 26.21 metres in length, with a max draft of 2.60 feet and a beam of 7.30 feet. She has a deck material of teak.

VivieRae is equipped with the latest entertainment system utilizing iPads to control the TV, music, and movie server. You may connect your phone via Bluetooth to the sound system. We have over 500 movies available for you to view. M/Y VivieRae has a complete medical kit on the boat, in the event of an emergency, the CAPTAIN will assist. He is trained to administer First Aid and has access to additional professional medical advice 24/7.

Captain: Gareth Schwegman

Gareth Schwegman Captain(rotational) Captain Gareth Schwegman was born in South Africa and grew up around the yachting industry. His love of the ocean and seamanship skills was honed in his native South Africa on family sailing excursions off the coast of Durban and Mozambique. His father’s sailing school, which specializes in mega yacht crew training, also played a role in Gareth’s decision to join the yachting industry and obtain his captain’s license. Gareth began his yachting career as a deckhand in 2001 and in 2005 became a captain on the Belle de Jour. Prior to VivieRae II Gareth was the captain on VivieRae another Nordhavn owned by Bob and Sandy Giles. Gareth has been the captain for Bob and Sandy Giles since October of 2012. He was instrumental in the build process of VivieRae II and is responsible for many design ideas that were incorporated during the build process to make sure that VivieRae II was completed to the highest standards. Gareth is married to Carolyn and they have two boys Josh and Ethan. Carolyn was the chef on the former VivieRae until they had their second child. “Caro” as she is referred to and the boys are welcome visitors to the boat and Mike and Teri have almost become there aunt and uncle. Gareth holds his MCA Yachtmaster Offshore 200 ton license, MCA Yachtmaster Ocean, MCA Navigation and Radar, MCA General Ships Knowledge, MCA Advanced Sea Survival, and Marshall Islands Endorsements for Offshore and GMDSS certificates. Gareth has extensive cruising experience in the Caribbean, Central America, and the West Coast of California to Alaska and the entire east coast to New England. Gareth is happy to answer any questions you may have and looks forward to leading guests of M/Y VivieRae II to new discoveries. Arnold Heins Captain – (Rotational) Arnold comes to Vivierae II with ten years of experience under his belt. His career took off back in 2008 when he started as deckhand on a 76’ sailing catamaran. It was a life as a dive instructor and a love for the ocean that lead him to pursue a career in yachting. In 2011 he became Captain on a 58’ charter sailing catamaran. Arnold transitioned from sailing yachts to motor yachts in 2013 when he started to run a 100’ Hargrave in South Florida and the Bahamas. Before captaining Vivierae II, Arnold was the captain on board the sister ship, a 96’ Nordhavn, Lacey Kay. Arnold ran Lacey Kay alongside his wife and two other crewmembers for almost three years. He cruised with the owners from Alaska to Panama on the west coast, and from Columbia to Maine on the east coast. He has extensive cruising experience of the Caribbean, Bahamas, New England, Central America and the west coast of America, including Alaska. Arnold's love for diving, water sports, and spotting the ideal anchorage makes him a great asset to Vivierae II. His passion for people, entertaining and being on the water is evident to his guest and makes for the perfect charter experience. He is from South Africa and speaks English and Afrikaans. Briar Meades Chef Briar is from New Zealand, she grew up with her father, a Chef, so naturally a passion for food was quickly instilled into her at a young age. Under his guidance she developed many skills and then Briar furthered her knowledge and skills from her eldest sister who also became a Chef. After high school Briar moved to Western Australia and spent the next two years living and traveling around Australia. She then settled back home in New Zealand and began her culinary training at The New Zealand School of Food and Wine. Briar worked as a Corporate Catering Chef at a law firm for 2 years before moving to a new venture at Misters Cafe. There she developed a holistic approach to cooking as it was a gluten free, refined sugar and dairy free establishment. Most recently Briar was the sole Chef onboard M/Y Andrea VI for two years, cruising the East Coast of America and the Bahamas. Briar has attained her level three certificate in Culinary Arts, level three Certificate in food safety and hygiene, STCW 95, and has her open water SCUBA certification. Briar looks forward to catering to all your culinary needs. Matt Cowie Mate Matt grew up in both Australia and New Zealand, he is an avid surfer who leads a healthy lifestyle and loves life on the water. Growing up near the beach helped shape Matt into the ocean lover he is today, he loves to surf, fish and dive in the world’s most beautiful destinations. This is Matts sixth year in the yachting industry and so far the job has taken him to some of the most beautiful places on the planet with extensive cruising of the Mediterranean, the Middle East, The Maldives and most recently the Bahamas and the east coast of the United States. Matt has several certifications including RYA Yachtmaster, Offshore RYA, Powerboat level II, Approved Engine Course, Open water SCUBA diver, Diploma in Fitness (AUT University New Zealand) just to name a few. Stewardess- J-Dean van der Westhuizen J-Dean grew up in Potchefstroom- a small town in South Africa. After completing her honors degree at University she moved to Johannesburg to follow a career as New Business Executive. Her heart was yearning to travel the world, meet new people and learn about other cultures. J-Dean resigned from her big city job to pursue a career as stewardess with Emirates airlines where she worked for 3 years. Meeting her now fiancé in Dubai they decided to join the yachting industry together. J-Dean enjoys hiking, kayaking, SUP, fishing, scuba diving and team sports in her time off. She looks forward creating a memorable experience on board! Deckhand- Jevan Wyngaard Jean grew up in small fishing town in South Africa. After completing School he did a 6 month apprenticeship in building Boats. Once he complete his apprenticeship he got offered a contract to go play rugby in England. Having a injury change his vision into hospitality where he went to Dubai to work for Well-known Hotels Like Marriott International & IHG hotel groups in the food & beverage department. Jean met his Fiancé (J-Dean) in Dubai and they decided to go travel the world by working in the yachting industry. Jean enjoys fishing, sports, Kayaking and scuba diving on his off time.

Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). A supremely luxurious, world-cruising exploration vessel, 98ft (29.87m) VIVIERAE II is a sturdy and spacious Nordhavn yacht with lavish accommodation for up to 10 charter guests, available for charter in the Maldives, Red sea & the Mediterranean.

A World Superyacht Voyager’s Award nominee, VIVIERAE II is ideal for active charter guests as she’s equipped with a vast array of amenities and equipment to make the most of your charter.

Over three decks, VIVIERAE II provides guests with several spaces for relaxing and entertaining, including the main aft deck with oval dining table, chairs and lounge seating. On the bridge deck, there’s more seating, a bar and grill, and on the sundeck is a jacuzzi, massive sunpad, bar and dining area.

Inside, the décor was designed by Destry Darr Designs and is 5-star quality, featuring original artwork, expert cabinetry and lavish furnishings, conveying the international flavour of this magnificent charter yacht. The central stairway is encased in glass and links each level. The saloon boasts a huge lounge space, separate formal dining area and large windows for views from every angle. Along with a flatscreen TV, there is a 500+ movie library for guests’ enjoyment.

The skylounge on the top deck is an additional social space which can be converted into a fifth cabin, with high-tech entertainment system and lounges.

ACCOMMODATION

On the main deck, the master stateroom features a king bed and generously-sized marble ensuite. On the lower deck are the guest staterooms, comprising two cabins with two twin beds each that can be converted into king beds, and the VIP stateroom with queen bed. Every cabin has a private ensuite, TV/AV and wi-fi.

The skylounge converts into a fifth cabin for two additional guests, including ensuite. This area is best suited to teenagers. An extra fee applies.

WATERTOYS & TENDERS

Onboard VIVIERAE II there is a 39ft Custom Winter Tender equipped for fishing and diving, a 17ft RIB tender and a 19ft RIB tender for watersports and towing.

For all day on-water fun, there are two electric Hydrofoil Surfboards, SUPS, kayaks, one ZUP Multi-use water sports board, multi-person towable raft, waterskis, two underwater Scooters, seven sets of dive equipment, dive compressor and hyperbaric dive chamber.

If guests are intent on maintaining their fitness regimes, VIVIERAE II comes complete with gym equipment, including treadmill, weights, TRX bands, Ab dolly and yoga mats which can all be used on the sundeck for a workout with a view.

The crew of five charter professionals, including an acclaimed Chef who offers gourmet to healthy-lifestyle menus, are highly regarded for their skills and their synergy, working together to ensure guests’ every whim is met and exceeded during their charter.

wpcf_crew: a:16:{s:4:"info";s:6552:"Gareth Schwegman Captain(rotational)<br /> Captain Gareth Schwegman was born in South Africa and grew up around the yachting industry. His love of the ocean and seamanship skills was honed in his native South Africa on family sailing excursions off the coast of Durban and Mozambique. His father’s sailing school, which specializes in mega yacht crew training, also played a role in Gareth’s decision to join the yachting industry and obtain his captain’s license. Gareth began his yachting career as a deckhand in 2001 and in 2005 became a captain on the Belle de Jour. Prior to VivieRae II Gareth was the captain on VivieRae another Nordhavn owned by Bob and Sandy Giles. Gareth has been the captain for Bob and Sandy Giles since October of 2012. He was instrumental in the build process of VivieRae II and is responsible for many design ideas that were incorporated during the build process to make sure that VivieRae II was completed to the highest standards. <br /> Gareth is married to Carolyn and they have two boys Josh and Ethan. Carolyn was the chef on the former VivieRae until they had their second child. “Caro” as she is referred to and the boys are welcome visitors to the boat and Mike and Teri have almost become there aunt and uncle. <br /> Gareth holds his MCA Yachtmaster Offshore 200 ton license, MCA Yachtmaster Ocean, MCA Navigation and Radar, MCA General Ships Knowledge, MCA Advanced Sea Survival, and Marshall Islands Endorsements for Offshore and GMDSS certificates. <br /> Gareth has extensive cruising experience in the Caribbean, Central America, and the West Coast of California to Alaska and the entire east coast to New England. Gareth is happy to answer any questions you may have and looks forward to leading guests of M/Y VivieRae II to new discoveries. <br /> <br /> Arnold Heins Captain – (Rotational)<br /> Arnold comes to Vivierae II with ten years of experience under his belt. His career took off back in 2008 when he started as deckhand on a 76’ sailing catamaran. It was a life as a dive instructor and a love for the ocean that lead him to pursue a career in yachting. In 2011 he became Captain on a 58’ charter sailing catamaran. Arnold transitioned from sailing yachts to motor yachts in 2013 when he started to run a 100’ Hargrave in South Florida and the Bahamas. <br /> Before captaining Vivierae II, Arnold was the captain on board the sister ship, a 96’ Nordhavn, Lacey Kay. Arnold ran Lacey Kay alongside his wife and two other crewmembers for almost three years. He cruised with the owners from Alaska to Panama on the west coast, and from Columbia to Maine on the east coast. <br /> He has extensive cruising experience of the Caribbean, Bahamas, New England, Central America and the west coast of America, including Alaska.<br /> Arnold's love for diving, water sports, and spotting the ideal anchorage makes him a great asset to Vivierae II. His passion for people, entertaining and being on the water is evident to his guest and makes for the perfect charter experience. He is from South Africa and speaks English and Afrikaans.<br /> <br /> <br /> Briar Meades Chef<br /> Briar is from New Zealand, she grew up with her father, a Chef, so naturally a passion for food was quickly instilled into her at a young age. Under his guidance she developed many skills and then Briar furthered her knowledge and skills from her eldest sister who also became a Chef.<br /> After high school Briar moved to Western Australia and spent the next two years living and traveling around Australia. She then settled back home in New Zealand and began her culinary training at The New Zealand School of Food and Wine. Briar worked as a Corporate Catering Chef at a law firm for 2 years before moving to a new venture at Misters Cafe. There she developed a holistic approach to cooking as it was a gluten free, refined sugar and dairy free establishment. Most recently Briar was the sole Chef onboard M/Y Andrea VI for two years, cruising the East Coast of America and the Bahamas.<br /> Briar has attained her level three certificate in Culinary Arts, level three Certificate in food safety and hygiene, STCW 95, and has her open water SCUBA certification. <br /> Briar looks forward to catering to all your culinary needs.<br /> <br /> Matt Cowie Mate<br /> Matt grew up in both Australia and New Zealand, he is an avid surfer who leads a healthy lifestyle and loves life on the water. Growing up near the beach helped shape Matt into the ocean lover he is today, he loves to surf, fish and dive in the world’s most beautiful destinations. <br /> This is Matts sixth year in the yachting industry and so far the job has taken him to some of the most beautiful places on the planet with extensive cruising of the Mediterranean, the Middle East, The Maldives and most recently the Bahamas and the east coast of the United States.<br /> Matt has several certifications including RYA Yachtmaster, Offshore RYA, Powerboat level II, Approved Engine Course, Open water SCUBA diver, Diploma in Fitness (AUT University New Zealand) just to name a few.<br /> <br /> Stewardess- J-Dean van der Westhuizen<br /> J-Dean grew up in Potchefstroom- a small town in South Africa. After completing her honors degree at University she moved to Johannesburg to follow a career as New Business Executive. Her heart was yearning to travel the world, meet new people and learn about other cultures. J-Dean resigned from her big city job to pursue a career as stewardess with Emirates airlines where she worked for 3 years. Meeting her now fiancé in Dubai they decided to join the yachting industry together. J-Dean enjoys hiking, kayaking, SUP, fishing, scuba diving and team sports in her time off. She looks forward creating a memorable experience on board!<br /> <br /> Deckhand- Jevan Wyngaard<br /> Jean grew up in small fishing town in South Africa. After completing School he did a 6 month apprenticeship in building Boats. Once he complete his apprenticeship he got offered a contract to go play rugby in England. His love of the ocean and seamanship skills was honed in his native South Africa on family sailing excursions off the coast of Durban and Mozambique. His father’s sailing school, which specializes in mega yacht crew training, also played a role in Gareth’s decision to join the yachting industry and obtain his captain’s license. Gareth began his yachting career as a deckhand in 2001 and in 2005 became a captain on the Belle de Jour. Prior to VivieRae II Gareth was the captain on VivieRae another Nordhavn owned by Bob and Sandy Giles. Gareth has been the captain for Bob and Sandy Giles since October of 2012. He was instrumental in the build process of VivieRae II and is responsible for many design ideas that were incorporated during the build process to make sure that VivieRae II was completed to the highest standards. <br /> Gareth is married to Carolyn and they have two boys Josh and Ethan. Carolyn was the chef on the former VivieRae until they had their second child. “Caro” as she is referred to and the boys are welcome visitors to the boat and Mike and Teri have almost become there aunt and uncle. <br /> Gareth holds his MCA Yachtmaster Offshore 200 ton license, MCA Yachtmaster Ocean, MCA Navigation and Radar, MCA General Ships Knowledge, MCA Advanced Sea Survival, and Marshall Islands Endorsements for Offshore and GMDSS certificates. <br /> Gareth has extensive cruising experience in the Caribbean, Central America, and the West Coast of California to Alaska and the entire east coast to New England. Gareth is happy to answer any questions you may have and looks forward to leading guests of M/Y VivieRae II to new discoveries. <br /> <br /> Arnold Heins Captain – (Rotational)<br /> Arnold comes to Vivierae II with ten years of experience under his belt. His career took off back in 2008 when he started as deckhand on a 76’ sailing catamaran. It was a life as a dive instructor and a love for the ocean that lead him to pursue a career in yachting. In 2011 he became Captain on a 58’ charter sailing catamaran. Arnold transitioned from sailing yachts to motor yachts in 2013 when he started to run a 100’ Hargrave in South Florida and the Bahamas. <br /> Before captaining Vivierae II, Arnold was the captain on board the sister ship, a 96’ Nordhavn, Lacey Kay. Arnold ran Lacey Kay alongside his wife and two other crewmembers for almost three years. He cruised with the owners from Alaska to Panama on the west coast, and from Columbia to Maine on the east coast. <br /> He has extensive cruising experience of the Caribbean, Bahamas, New England, Central America and the west coast of America, including Alaska.<br /> Arnold's love for diving, water sports, and spotting the ideal anchorage makes him a great asset to Vivierae II. His passion for people, entertaining and being on the water is evident to his guest and makes for the perfect charter experience. He is from South Africa and speaks English and Afrikaans.<br /> <br /> <br /> Briar Meades Chef<br /> Briar is from New Zealand, she grew up with her father, a Chef, so naturally a passion for food was quickly instilled into her at a young age. Under his guidance she developed many skills and then Briar furthered her knowledge and skills from her eldest sister who also became a Chef.<br /> After high school Briar moved to Western Australia and spent the next two years living and traveling around Australia. She then settled back home in New Zealand and began her culinary training at The New Zealand School of Food and Wine. Briar worked as a Corporate Catering Chef at a law firm for 2 years before moving to a new venture at Misters Cafe. There she developed a holistic approach to cooking as it was a gluten free, refined sugar and dairy free establishment. Most recently Briar was the sole Chef onboard M/Y Andrea VI for two years, cruising the East Coast of America and the Bahamas.<br /> Briar has attained her level three certificate in Culinary Arts, level three Certificate in food safety and hygiene, STCW 95, and has her open water SCUBA certification. <br /> Briar looks forward to catering to all your culinary needs.<br /> <br /> Matt Cowie Mate<br /> Matt grew up in both Australia and New Zealand, he is an avid surfer who leads a healthy lifestyle and loves life on the water. Growing up near the beach helped shape Matt into the ocean lover he is today, he loves to surf, fish and dive in the world’s most beautiful destinations. <br /> This is Matts sixth year in the yachting industry and so far the job has taken him to some of the most beautiful places on the planet with extensive cruising of the Mediterranean, the Middle East, The Maldives and most recently the Bahamas and the east coast of the United States.<br /> Matt has several certifications including RYA Yachtmaster, Offshore RYA, Powerboat level II, Approved Engine Course, Open water SCUBA diver, Diploma in Fitness (AUT University New Zealand) just to name a few.<br /> <br /> Stewardess- J-Dean van der Westhuizen<br /> J-Dean grew up in Potchefstroom- a small town in South Africa. After completing her honors degree at University she moved to Johannesburg to follow a career as New Business Executive. Her heart was yearning to travel the world, meet new people and learn about other cultures. J-Dean resigned from her big city job to pursue a career as stewardess with Emirates airlines where she worked for 3 years. Meeting her now fiancé in Dubai they decided to join the yachting industry together. J-Dean enjoys hiking, kayaking, SUP, fishing, scuba diving and team sports in her time off. She looks forward creating a memorable experience on board!<br /> <br /> Deckhand- Jevan Wyngaard<br /> Jean grew up in small fishing town in South Africa. After completing School he did a 6 month apprenticeship in building Boats. Once he complete his apprenticeship he got offered a contract to go play rugby in England. Having a injury change his vision into hospitality where he went to Dubai to work for Well-known Hotels Like Marriott International & IHG hotel groups in the food & beverage department. <br /> Jean met his Fiancé (J-Dean) in Dubai and they decided to go travel the world by working in the yachting industry. 30m Nordhavn yacht recovered after floating adrift for more than a week

The 29.5-metre Nordhavn motor yacht VivieRae II has been rescued after 10 days floating adrift in the Arafuru Sea following an incident on March 2 that left the yacht disabled around 158 nautical miles east of Merauke, West Papua Indonesia.

Speaking to BOAT International , the owner of the yacht said it had been "a very difficult and arduous 10 days" but he was fortunate that no one was hurt and the vessel was recovered safely.

According to the yacht's owner, Bob Giles, the incident occurred when the crew was trying to retrieve a tow line attached to the yacht's tender. The rope became entangled in the running gear, causing the captain to shut off the engines.

"The captain was able to drop anchor although the depth is about 60 meters and VivieRae II has about 85 to 90 meters of anchor chain," explained Giles. Waves of up to four metres and worsening winds caused the anchor chain to drag, and an initial attempt to rescue the crew of six proved too dangerous.

The crew was safely evacuated the next day by an Australian military ship, but the boat remained unmanned at sea for several days until Giles could reach the vessel.

Giles accompanied by former captain Gareth Schwegman, reached the vessel on Sunday March 12. "[We] used scuba equipment to dive under VivieRae II and clear the tow line from the port propeller and a large fishing net entangled in the starboard [propellor] along with the starboard stabiliser fin," he said. "The operation took about two hours to clear both propellers, we also found no damage to the running gear."

The tender which VivieRae II had been towing, Ricochet, was initially lost during the incident, but was spotted by a pilot boat near Australia's Thursday Island around 240 miles south of the yacht's position. "We were planning to go to Brisbane to make repairs to VivieRae II and planned to clear customers at Thursday Island Australia, so it was very convenient to recover Ricochet," added Giles.

The vessel arrived at Thursday Island today (March 13). "Once repairs are completed in Brisbane I will continue my journey west around the world and enjoy the next year so enjoying that adventure," said Giles.
