A visceral sailing experience

Sailing Catamarans: Sailing Catamarans make great cruising and bluewater boats.

Although the principles of sailing are the same for both catamarans and monohulls, there are some enormous advantages to safety and comfort for sailing catamarans.

One of the biggest developments over the last decade in the yachting arena has been the rise of the super catamaran: a multihull over 100 feet in length. The emergence of the super or mega catamaran is a relatively new event affiliated to the rise of the mega or super yacht, used to describe the huge growth in luxurious, large motor yachts on the French Riviera, Caribbean and Floridian Coast.

• Level sailing gives greater comfort and is less tiring
• The danger of falling overboard on a catamaran is considerably less than on a monohull
• It seems that you do the same activities whether you are at anchor, sailing, or motoring
• With a catamaran's level sailing, seasickness is reduced significantly
• A very valuable yet seldom talked about benefit is no rolling in an anchorage
• You don't have to put away everything every time you start sailing
• The draft on catamaran varies from 1 to 4 feet depending on whether it has mini-keels or dagger boards
• 360 degree view you have from most catamaran bridge decks
• Onboard a catamaran you remain informally connected to the world outside
• Galley Up layouts make provisioning, serving and cleaning just steps from the cockpit instead of many unsafe trips up and down the companionway; even when in the galley the cook is still part of the party.
• Because of the large wide deck areas there is a real feeling of space when outside
• When sailing with three or more people catamarans offer much more privacy as the two hulls, and the suites and heads within them, are far away from each other
• Catamarans are faster than monohulls and can avoid most serious weather and, at worst, place itself in a more favorable position to avoid the brunt of a storm
• Catamarans are superior to monohulls in terms of redundancy due to twin engines and twin rudders
• Better dinghy storage on davits between hulls as well as safer access to the dinghy and watersports

Power Catamarans: A recent development in recreational catamaran history and design has been the introduction of the power catamaran. The 'power' version incorporates the best features of a motor yacht and combines it with the characteristics of a multihull. The hulls below the waterline are typically planning hulls instead of their sailing counterparts that are standard displacement.

Usually, the power catamaran is devoid of any sailing apparatus as demonstrated by some of the top-selling models like the CUMBERLAND 47LC, Lagoon Power 43, Leopard 47PC and the Journey 47LRC to mention a few.

• They are very fuel efficient due to less wetted surface with the smaller sized engines to a comparable sized motor yacht and a wider stable platform.
• The incredible smooth ride and extended range
• Fishing is very comfortable and the ability to back down and maneuver to the fish is easier and faster
• They are much better than a monohull in a following sea, as a mono will plow into the front wave as they come down, then turn or pitch-pull when they plow into this next wave.
• Power cats are more buoyant in the bow making them more relaxing to drive in a following sea.
• Better maneuverability in harbor

The latest gem to emerge from the one of the world’s oldest yacht builders  Van Dam Nordia is a 24-metre gentleman’s motoryacht with classic elements designed for a Swedish client. In addition to its phenomenal quality, this mid-sized superyacht offers a wealth of luxury and comfort. A wealth of windows give the interior a bright and open feeling.

The upper deck with flybridge includes a Jacuzzi, a barbecue and various seats on which to lounge and relax. There is plenty of room to stow a large tender, which is launched by an hydraulic crane.

The main deck offers a large saloon with a fully equipped open galley and integrated dinette. The master bedroom is located forward, offering a spectacular 180-degree view. Highlights of this spendid space include a king-sized bed, ‘his and hers’ ensuite bathroom and a walk-in closet.

The raised pilot house can be reached from the main deck and the flybridge. On the aft deck is an enormous sofa that provides the perfect spot for watching sunsets. This area can be closed off completely with a canvas awning.

The lower deck contains four spacious guest cabins, each with a double berth, ensuite bathroom and dressing table. In the aft ship there is a crew cabin with two bunks and its own bathroom. The aft ship also contains a gym and sauna. The large transom door can be opened for excercising in the open air and extends to serve as a fine swimming platform.

This 24m Yacht is a wonderful piece of traditional looking yacht in combination with the latest technologies and built with the experience of over 350 projects from our shipyard.

The yacht has a lot of features coming from the super yachts done by NEDSHIP, which gives a much more volume and functionality to the yacht than on comparable yachts this size on the market.

Beside the full beam master cabin on the guest deck, there are 3 more guest cabins each with its own bathroom, so that the yacht can accommodate up to 8 guests.

The traditional design offers more space as it looks. The beam of 6.5m is much more than on comparable yachts and also the sun deck shows much more space for sun bathing, dining and relaxing.

The crew is located on the bow section and accommodates 2 crew members.

Two Caterpillar C 18 are bringing an economical cruising speed of 15kn and a top speed of 19 kn.

The yacht is built in high class epoxy composite with Carbon reinforcements. This material has some of the following advantages compare to GRP or steel:

• Better noise protection
• More lightweight, means better economy
• Better half-life, means the hull and structure keeps its quality, so also less maintenance

Arcadia Sherpa XL

Some years ago, arcadia presented the 17m sherpa with her unique design. now they come up with the arcadia sherpa xl with almost 24m, designed by hot lab (exterior and interior)..

Arcadia is known for unique yacht designs and a focus to reduce the carbon footprint with optimized hulls, lightweight materials and the use of solar panels. The Arcadia Sherpa XL comes with a length of 23.80m, a beam of 6.90m and 220 sqm of interior space.

The semi-displacement yacht has a top speed of 22 knots, powered by two Volvo Penta IPS 1050 engines. Arcadia says the Sherpa XL is 30 – 35 % more efficient than other yachts in her class.

Ugo Pellegrino, the Sole Director of ARCADIA YACHTS says:

“SHERPA XL retains all of ARCADIA’s fundamental brand values – comfort, performance, easy handling, eco-friendly technology and personalization options in terms of layout and décor.  This new project means a great deal to me, personally, because I spent a lot of time on SHERPA and fully appreciated its qualities. I would like this new model to be another step towards the creation of a new concept of yacht, which gives the green light to a new line and is not simply a SHERPA on a larger scale. The latter would have been a quicker and easier solution for us, but we fully intend to keep our role as innovators and to continue to push our industry further.”

The master suite has a size of over 22 sqm. Furthermore, there is a VIP suite in the bow. The yacht can be ordered with a three or four cabin layout.

Enrico Lumini, Interior Chief Designer of Hot Lab explains:

“ With regard to interior design, our intent was to bring this project as close as possible to the requests of potential Owners – large spaces, great interaction with the surrounding environment and a contemporary, simple and essential style.  Simple geometries maximise volumes and if, on the one hand, this leads us to forgetting where we are, i.e. on an almost 24-metre yacht, on the other hand it allows to make the best use of the available space, providing guests with greater comfort while living on board. ”

With great pride, Bering Yachts releases the first photo and video footage of M/Y B76 Lemanja, recently added to our fleet of under-24-meter boats. The first and only absolutely custom boat built by Bering in this size is a true blue-water exploring vessel made for long voyages. 

Rugged outside and powerful inside, this boat has been constructed as a full-fetched luxury house. Lemanja is surprisingly spacious and comfortable for her length. Her state-of-the-art design is optimized to provide the owner with the full operation autonomy. With this homy feeling you might even forget that you are traversing an ocean on a yacht. 

Modern internal and external outlook, use of luxury materials, and attention to details will satisfy the most particular demands. Six guests will enjoy this roomy and safe vessel. Bering 76 allows for a perfect combination of exploration and fun.

Featuring 130 metric tons of displacement, B76 has a large storage to bolster her range of over 4,000 nautical miles. Twin Cummins QSL 9 engines give Lemanja a maximum speed of 12 knots and a cruising speed of 9 knots. An alternative power source reduces the environmental footprint and increases the boat’s autonomy. Advanced stabilizer systems provide comfort to those susceptible to seasickness at anchor and at sea.

A result of Vripack ’s Holistic design approach, the 24-metre Research Vessel Yacht ANDROS is a robust globe trotting vessel, packed with innovation and surprises beneath her rough and husky looking exterior. The concept of explorer yacht ANDROS is no longer new, but in this compact length, building her undoubtedly requires a high degree of craftsmanship.

Vripack has created over 7000 designs and has been a world player in Yacht Design, Naval Architecture and Engineering since the early 60’s. Vripack is involved in the entire building process of innovative high quality yachts that are professionally developed for private customers and shipyards worldwide.

Vripack is well known for its high quality no-nonsense-go-anywhere ships. So the ability to craft a family yacht with the capability to conquer the world is anchored in the roots of its DNA. At 24 meter ‘Andros’ yacht is designed and built for a repeating customer and she is a perfect example of a vessel which is very well equipped for world cruising.

As for the previous Research Vessel Yachts, superyacht Andros is engineered with the important features of seaworthiness, safety and reliability; elements to which Vripack always pays a lot of attention. The yacht was brought to life by the Polish shipyard Aluship .

Andros yacht is intended to be used as a luxury private yacht for deep sea cruising especially in the Scandinavian waters . Therefore all systems, equipment and outfitting will be suitable for such service. Furthermore, the yacht is equipped with a garage suitable for a ‘Mercedes G class’ allowing to explore the world’s greatest escapes where there are no rental agencies.

Next to that she offers enough space for a multiple tender, kayak and diving storages on the fore and aft deck. A fold-up swimming platform is placed aft and still there is plenty of room left for a great exploration deck.

The biggest yachts to look out for at the 2024 St Barths Bucket

St Barths is the epicentre of superyacht racing during the Caribbean season, often with an impressive array of superyacht spectators in tow . In the final days leading up to the 2024 St Barths Bucket (21-24 March), BOAT rounds up the largest yachts seen pulling into Gustavia for the famed regatta, beginning with Lürssen's 138-metre Rising Sun ...

Builder: Lürssen Length: 138.01m

If not for her sheer size, Rising Sun will be easy to spot from the shores of Gustavia thanks to her distinct glass panels running across the two upper decks. The yacht was the last ever design of Jon Bannenberg and boasts 8,000 square metres of living space that includes a wine cellar, double-height cinema and a basketball court. Rising Sun was originally commissioned by American business magnate Larry Ellison , who later sold the yacht to media mogul David Geffen. 

Builder: Kleven Length: 116.15m

One of the largest explorer yachts in the world , Multiverse (ex Ulysses ) was commissioned by New Zealand's richest man, Graeme Hart. She is equipped with a heli-hangar on the top deck for a Bell 429 helicopter, as well as a large swimming pool, cinema and spa for the ultimate guest experience. Inside, the yacht's massive 18-metre beam provides accommodation for an owner's party of up to 66. 

Maltese Falcon

Builder: Perini Navi Length: 88m

Fresh out of a full-scale refit, Maltese Falcon is undoubtedly one of the most unique and technologically innovative sailing superyachts in the world – kitted out with radical unstayed masts made of "weapons-grade" carbon fibre, a FalconRig and computerised sail and mast control system. Be sure to look out for the yacht's eponymous emblem on its middle sail, which also appears in the form of a bronze sculpture next to the indoor cinema. 

Builder: Admiral – The Italian Sea Group Length: 74.85m

Instantly recognisable, Kenshō' 's flowing lines and metallic green-blue hull took six years to create with design from Dutch firm Azure Yacht Design and Naval Architecture and Berlin-based archineers.berlin . The Admiral flagship was awarded the coveted Motor Yacht of the Year title at the 2023 BOAT International World Superyacht Awards and picked up another Neptune at the 2023 BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards for Best Interior Design. Onboard highlights include a glass-fronted spa pool on the sundeck, a sunbed shaped in the image of a manta ray and a diesel-electric system based on five variable-speed generators that earned the yacht its Eco classification. 

Builder: Heesen Yachts Length: 65m

The multiple award-winning Illusion (ex Galactica Star ) was delivered by Heesen in 2013, featuring the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) developed by Dutch naval architects Van Oossanen & Associates . Her streamlined appearance and generous guest amenities have made her a favourite on the charter scene, with Beyoncé and Jay Z among her list of returning clients . Illusion was also singled out by Dickie Bannenberg – who designed the yacht's interior – as one of his most memorable projects owing to its considerable onboard art collection. 

Builder: Benetti Length: 60m

Another popular charter vessel, St David will once again appear on the hit reality TV show Below Deck , but this time with a new captain at the helm. The yacht is characterised by a classic Baroque theme with intricate marquetry made from satin woods, and a mosaic floor on the skylounge that draws inspiration from a "Tuscan palazzo". While St David is known to frequent high-profile events such as the Cannes Film Festival, she has also ventured to off-the-beaten-path locations including the Seychelles, Red Sea and Abu Dhabi. 

Builder: Trinity Yachts Length: 58.83m

Launched in 2016, Imagine... is one of the largest yachts to be built in the United States . The tri-deck vessel was penned by long-time collaborator Geoff Van Aller , with both the hull and superstructure built from aluminium to AB classification. The yacht's primary social area is found on the sundeck, where guests can relax in the Jacuzzi, on multiple sun loungers or at the bar. Inside, Imagine... also has a bonus cabin that doubles as a massage room. 

Builder: Feadship Length: 55.5m

This Feadship superyacht has sailed under a litany of names since her 2005 delivery, including Twizzile , Drizzle , Issana , Madsummer , Cynthia and most recently, Mary A . In 2018, her owner joined forces with American interior designer Claudette Bonville Associates to give Mary A an exhaustive makeover that included a top-to-bottom paint job, technical tweaks and a brand-new interior – all while carefully preserving the yacht's pedigree. 

Builder: Benetti Length: 52m

Lady B (ex Latitude ) appears to be making the most of the winter cruising season, with back-and-forth trips between the British Virgin Islands and St Barths since early December 2023 according to BOATPro 's Global Fleet Tracker. Before that, the yacht spent the off-season touring fan-favourite destinations in the South Pacific, such as Fiji, the Cook Islands and French Polynesia. She is consistently ranked among the most popular charter vessels with amenities such as an outdoor cinema, a Jacuzzi and a recently updated dive centre.

See Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's brand new 287-foot superyacht

Mark Zuckerberg reportedly rewarded himself with a luxurious gift: a $300 million super yacht.

The billionaire Meta Platforms CEO reportedly purchased the 287-foot vessel with the name Launchpad, according to The Sun and New York Post. 

FOX Business reached out to Meta Platforms and a Zuckerberg personal spokesperson for comment on the vessel.

The vessel reached America a few days ago, cruising into Fort Lauderdale’s port in the Sunshine State, according to Business Insider. Prior to that, it had recently completed its first-ever official sailing.

In photos, the dark blue-hulled Launchpad appeared to have multiple decks.

Superyacht Times pegged its gross tonnage at about 5,000. It can reportedly sail as fast as 24 knots.

Feadship, a well-known yacht builder headquartered in the Netherlands, constructed the superyacht.

Only 70 motor yachts measuring over 100 meters currently exist, according to BOAT International. Some are believed to belong to other members of the three-comma club.

The Sun reported the 118-meter Launchpad came at a nine-figure cost.

Zuckerberg has amassed a personal fortune that, according to Forbes, sat around $178 billion as of Thursday evening.

He has Meta Platforms, the corporate parent of Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Threads, to thank for that. He co-founded Facebook about 20 years ago.

"20 years ago I launched a thing," he wrote on the platform in early February. "Along the way, lots of amazing people joined and we built some more awesome things. We’re still at it and the best is yet to come."
