For viewers who prefer to look at the other side of things, ‘Below Deck’ offers discipline and intrigue. While the fabulous life of a group of friends who spend their days away partying may seem repetitive, it offers viewers a peek into the lavish lifestyle of strangers. The bustling beauty of Barcelona adds a marvellous feature to the reality show, making viewers want to traverse the cobbled lanes of Europe themselves. As such, if the exotic location and multi-million set up in ‘Below Deck’, intrigued you, then ‘First Class’ is the show to watch next.
6. Camp Getaway (2020)
Released in 2020, this Bravo reality show follows Camp Getaway owner David Schreiber and Camp Director Claire Sorrels as they handle the high demands of their guests along with seven inexperienced senior coordinators. Also a Bravo series, fans of ‘Below Deck’ will not just be drawn to the secluded picturesque beauty of British Columbia but also to the working dynamics between the cast.
4. Deadliest Catch: Bloodline (2020-)
While ‘Deadliest Catch: Bloodline’ does not provide the bling and luxury of a multi-million yacht, it does fill the gap with gorgeous seaports perched on the unending blue hues. While one is easily taken to the beauty of the ocean, it also brings a sense of thrill as viewers view fishermen charter turbulent waters and catch some of the deadliest fishes.
The show features legacy fisherman Josh Harris on the coast of Hawaii as he navigates the water with maps left behind by his late father, Phil Harris. The Discovery Channel reality television series also follows Josh Harris’ business partners, Casey McManus and Jeff Silva, as the three investigate scribbles found on Hawaiian fishing charts and find tuna, swordfish, barracuda, and many more. Fans of ‘Below Deck’ will find the strong resonance with the ocean and naturally be drawn to the show.
3. Unanchored (2018)
Instead of the dose of drama that inevitably falls with most reality television shows, ‘Unachored’ on Bravo follows the lives of friends with Captain Jack Royds as they set sail to make lifetime memories and create new adventures. 1. The Cruise (2016-2019)
This ITV classic follows the logistical challenges as staff members and guests voyage to Alaska atop a 1082-foot-long and 142k-ton ship. Which Below Deck Series Is the Best and Which Is the Worst?
Do any of them have the potential to knock the original off its pedestal?
The first iteration of â Below Deck â began airing on Bravo in the summer of 2013. A brief 11 episodes revealed a reality show different from the usual âReal Housewivesâ fare. In this case, the wealthy people vacationing aboard a luxury yacht were not the showâs stars, but instead served as rotating groups of charter guests. The real stars of the series were the hardworking crew of the boat, the peasants who at night rest their heads in bunkbeds located â you guessed it â below deck.
The peasants, sometimes called sea rats, have to actually work â and in very unflattering outfits. Again, not your typical Bravo aesthetic. The drama stems not only from their interactions with each other (boat-mances are inevitable), but also their interactions with the often demanding charter guests.
Since the inaugural season, four other versions of âBelow Deckâ have joined the franchise, and there are now only three weeks a year that pass without a new, original episode from one âBelow Deckâ series or another. I didnât stumble upon the brilliance of âBelow Deckâ until early in the pandemic, but since then I have watched every season of every iteration at least twice. (Embarrassingly, Iâve seen one certain season at least a dozen times.)
Hop on board to see which spinoffs in the franchise have â and have not â earned their stripes. Ranking them was more difficult than anticipated, at least for the middle three on my list. Iâve also highlighted each franchiseâs best and most necessary seasons, in case youâd like to watch (or rewatch) with potential bingeing shortcuts in mind. Letâs set sail!
The Original âBelow Deckâ Anchors All Five Shows
The choice to place the flagship âBelow Deckâ series first in my rankings may seem like an easy out, but Iâll give you three specific reasons the original will forever reign supreme.
Kate Chastain, Chief Stew for seasons 2 to 7, is the epitome of cool.Â
Kate Chastainâs ability to remain unbothered is #lifegoals. Sheâs the showâs raison dâĂȘtre. Donât get me wrong: Captain Lee Rosbach , who steered the ship in seasons 1 to 10, is iconic and noteworthy. But he wouldnât be the Captain Lee we know and love, the curmudgeonly Stud of the Sea, without Chastain providing some levity and humanity.
Despite Chastain being significantly younger than Captain Lee, theyâre the dream team, as close as family. Their friendship hasnât shown signs of sinking even after both left the show â in real life and on television in the form of recap shows, most recently âCouch Talk With Captain Lee and Kate.â
Season 3 of the original âBelow Deckâ is among the top five most memorable seasons of reality TV.Â
The Season 3 crew is the perfect mix, but thereâs one cast member who stands out as more memorable than all the rest: Raquel âRockyâ Dakota . Rockyâs most hysterical antic? Taking off her clothes and diving overboard in just her underwear in an attempt to escape the boat. This was her only season on the show, and it was glorious.
The near-fatal man-overboard incident in Season 6 put the ârealâ in âreality TV.âÂ
The infamous âfourth wallâ between the boatâs crew and the showâs crew disappeared instantly during Season 6, when an errant line pulled deckhand Ashton Pienaar overboard. A cameraman had the foresight to release the line. If he had not, Ashton was within seconds of dying. Just writing about the incident made me tear up all over again.
There are many other people and events that put the original âBelow Deckâ a notch above the rest, but these three standouts cement it as the best show in the franchise.
âBelow Deck Sailing Yachtâ Is Known to Be Nauti
âBelow Deck Sailing Yachtâ was an exciting third installment when it joined the franchise in 2020, since the first two series take place on motor yachts and this one introduced a sailing yacht. Four seasons in, the core cast of Captain Glenn Shephard , Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher , Engineer Colin Macrae, and Chief Officer Gary King is solid.
Kelliher is considered the second-best Chief Stew of all the shows (second to Queen Kate Chastain), and her friendship-turned-love-triangle with King and Macrae is gut-wrenching television. Plus, Season 2 results in a baby for two cast members!
Stern Sandy Makes âBelow Deck Mediterraneanâ Hard to Rank
I wrestled with the placement of âBelow Deck Mediterraneanâ â the first spinoff in the franchise â the most. It premiered in 2016, just three years after the original, and recently finished airing its eighth season. For now, âBelow Deck Mediterraneanâ gets a third-place ranking that could drop in future years. I donât see it rising. Captain Sandy Yawn is an inconsistent micromanager, and thereâs too much turnover among the crew.
The primary reason to watch âBelow Deck Mediterraneanâ is the dynamic between Captain Sandy (who started in Season 2) and the seasons 1 to 5 Chief Stew, Hannah Ferrier . Whereas Chastain and Captain Lee will give you the warm fuzzies, Ferrier and Captain Sandy can barely contain their disgust for each other and are more likely to inspire frustration. Neither is particularly likable, but their power struggle is fascinating and ends with a midseason bang when (spoiler alert!) drugs come into play.
âBelow Deck Down Underâ Sea-sed the Day and Should Cruise Into a Great Future
âBelow Deck Down Underâ has been on for only two seasons, and I suspect future seasons will push the spinoff up my ranks. Since its 2022 debut, âDown Underâ has shown promise for two reasons, both of which involve boating rock star and Chief Stew Aesha Scott , who we earlier met as a stew on âBelow Deck Mediterranean.â Good-natured and clever, this New Zealander brings out the best in everyone and has a sweet relationship with Captain Jason Chambers that rivals the camaraderie of Chastain and Captain Lee.
Besides Scottâs ability to get along famously with most of her crew, she facilitated an aftermath of nurturing following a traumatic evening captured on camera during the second season: Two cast members, a male deckhand and a female stew, were the targets of sexual assault by other crew members. In another life-changing moment, the showâs behind-the-scenes crew didn't hesitate to break the fourth wall and intervene immediately.
Producers made the choice to air the intervention and the raw aftermath. Captain Jason also fired the offending crew members. Meanwhile, Scottâs calm, caring nature amid the chaos gives me hope that we may soon see some needed reality reckoning in the Bravo-verse, which has come under fire in recent years for behavior gone way too far.
Also, Captain Jason is solid eye candy.
Throw âBelow Deck Adventureâ Overboard
I was tempted to write âBingeing Shortcut: Skip itâ and nothing else, if that tells you anything.
Itâs not that the one season of âBelow Deck Adventure,â which aired in 2022 and 2023, was awful. Itâs that the lack of necessity automatically renders it less interesting. That the promised outdoor adventures were few and far between didnât help. Its single seasonâs noteworthy players are Captain Kerry Titheradge , whoâs now steering the original âBelow Deckâ series, and charter guest Heather Gay of â The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.â
It seems unlikely weâll get a second season, and Iâm OK with that. I have the rest of the franchise to keep me from walking the plank.
Season 11 of the original âBelow Deckâ airs on Mondays on Bravo, with episodes streaming the next day on Peacock . You can stream the other iterations on Peacock too.

Parsifal III
Returning for its fifth season to the Balearic island of Ibiza, Below Deck Sailing Yacht will set sail on Parsifal III â the star of the sailing yacht spin-off of Below Deck . Captained by Glenn Shephard during filming, the 54-metre Perini Navi was launched in 2005 and refitted in 2020, offering accommodation for a total of 12 guests and nine crew.
She was an instant hit from the moment she hit the water, gaining several prestigious accolades including a coveted Neptune at the World Superyacht Awards and a place in the Perini Navi ranks as one of its fastest superyachts on the water. With her two high-tech carbon masts, automated in-boom furling and winged keel, she hits top knots of 18 knots.
Inside, her striking interior of dark ebony and light sycamore finishes is styled by RĂ©mi Tessier . She has all the charter favourites â hot tub, sunpads, wet bar and al fresco dining and lounging areas. Guests can also shake up their usual dining scene by eating at the water's edge, quite literally, on the hydraulic swim platform.
Charter cost: Parsifal III is managed for charter by Camper & Nicholsons with a weekly charter rate starting from âŹ245,000.
More about this yacht
Yachts for charter, northern sun.
The star yacht of Below Deck Down Under season two, the 50.8-metre Northern Sun (originally delivered as Hokko Maru ) has lived a full and fascinating life. She was the largest yacht built by Narasaki Shipbuilding at the time and worked as an ice-class research vessel, analysing marine life and ocean currents in the North Japan Sea. As a result, she has the hardy constitution of an explorer, transformed from ship to superyacht under the stewardship of her new owners.
Northern Sunâs main deck is now dedicated entirely to entertainment, from the al fresco dining area to the main saloon with its piano and games table. Other leisure highlights include gym equipment, a dedicated library on the lower deck and an outdoor Jacuzzi, surrounded by sun pads and lounge beds. The ownersâ addition of a forward seating area during her refit allows for versatile recreation, whether the mood calls for cocktail parties or quiet, waterside contemplation.Â
Accommodation is for up to 12 guests across six cabins, with rich, warm interiors that feature natural materials such as narra and makore wood (commonly known as cherry mahogany). The ex-explorer also â naturally â has impressive stowing capacity. She's able to carry two Laser sailboats, scuba-diving equipment, a waterski and a two-deck-high inflatable water slide, with the broker describing her as a "family-orientated" vessel.Â
Charter cost: Northern Sun is managed for charter by Ocean Independence with a weekly charter rate starting from $161,700.

A palatial theme characterises St David âs social spaces, with features including a generous skylounge and a spiral staircase that leads through all three decks and is lit by a skylight in the spa pool of the sun deck. Elsewhere, St David has expansive water toy facilities and storage, including scuba dive gear, a new 7.2m tender, new Waverunners, and an electric foiling surfboard.

Defined by a distinctive vertical bow and large expanses of glass, Home was penned by Omega Architects and launched by Heesen in 2017. Her interiors, designed by Cristiano Gatto in a modern âIbiza styleâ, can accommodate up to 12 guests in six cabins including a full-beam master cabin with a dedicated dressing room and a private office. There is also room for nine members of Below Deck crew on board, including Captain Sandy who has returned to the helm for the seventh season while Home is cruising the coasts of Malta .
The main socialising spot is up on the sundeck, complete with a Jacuzzi and sit-up bar, a shaded lounge and protection from the elements provided by glass screens. Closer to the water, a beach club with an air-conditioned gym is situated next to the swimming platform from which guests can launch the water toys including SeaBobs, Hoverboards, E-foils, Jet Skis and a Flyboard. Lady Michelle
Sailing under her real name, Lady Michelle was the star of the sixth series of Below Deck Mediterranean , which was the latest series from the Med spin off. The Wellington
Actually named The Wellesley , this 56.2 metre Oceanco superyacht is owned by property magnate and hotelier Khalid Affara and named after his luxury art deco hotel in London. Delivered in 1993, The Wellesley features extended deck spaces and Donald Starkey -penned interiors that replicate the grandeur of the eponymous Knightsbridge hotel. Highlights on board include a waterfall jacuzzi, an outdoor cinema for movies under the stars and a unique private club-style lounge complete with a Winston Churchill inspired cigar room.Â
Describing why she makes an excellent charter yacht, James Graham-Cloete, director of charter management from TWW Yachts , says that The Wellesley is âideal for entertaining family and friends, or hosting corporate events in utter privacy,â thanks to the fact that she âboasts some of the largest open deck spaces of any 56 metre on the water.â Graham-Cloete also adds that, on The Wellesley , âguests are invited to experience the same exceptional personal service, fine dining and attention to detail that has become synonymous with the hotel, on board a private superyacht,â while being looking after by her 14 crew members. âThe crew have one of the lowest turnover rates in the industry and one of the best charter records, along with a full-time masseuse on board- making her the ultimate charter yacht!â says Graham-Cloete.
Charter cost: The Wellesley is managed by TWW Yachts with a weekly charter rate starting from âŹ230,000.
Talisman Maiton
Built in 2006 by Turquoise Yachts , with a refit in 2012, the 54.2 metre Talisman Maiton sailed the coasts of Italy in the third series of Below Deck Mediterranean and was also captained by Sandy Yawn. Charter cost: Sirocco is managed for charter by Worth Avenue with a weekly charter rate starting from âŹ195,000.
Ionian Princess

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 may be just around the corner, and viewers can expect some big changes. Bravo's hit Below Deck spinoff began in 2020 and has already featured four explosive seasons. Fans will once again jump aboard Parsifal III and experience the next adventure with Captain Glenn Shephard and his interior and exterior crew. There have been some troubling new developments with season 5, the cast, and when fans can expect the hit Below Deck spinoff's return.
While the network was silent about Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, a lot has been going on behind the scenes that may be cause for concern. However, crew sightings have revealed which part of the Mediterranean Sea Captain Glenn will explore with his new and returning crew members. Furthermore, First Officer Gary King has also posted some clues that confirm the location and highlight that filming has already happened. A few observations also highlight that viewers are not far away from watching another season despite any drama signaling otherwise.
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Latest News
Below deck sailing yacht has had a lot of drama.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5's location as been confirmed as Ibiza, Spain . In June 2023, Reddit user Take_Me_To_Ibiza spotted Captain Glenn's Parsifal III and snapped a picture. The user then reshared the post, stating that the famous boat was "spotted in Ibiza." The iconic reality TV show's last two seasons covered Spain and Italy. Therefore, it wouldn't be surprising that the crew is exploring nearby areas and visiting exotic locations such as Ibiza. The location is part of Spain's Balearic Islands, including resort cities such as Palma. It seems like a perfect setup for the show.
34-year-old First Officer Gary King has been mired in controversy. While his reputation throughout his three seasons in Below Deck Sailing Yacht has largely been negative, with fans believing him to be sleazy, a pot-stirrer, and a bad boss, optics have gotten even worse for Gary. A former makeup artist for the Below Deck franchise, Samantha Suarez came forward in August 2023, alleging that Gary was sexually inappropriate with her during filming in the summer of 2022. Gary was never held accountable by production, although Bravo said they investigated the misconduct allegations.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5's Release Date
Bdsy has an air date.
The Below Deck franchise typically follows a schedule. Historically, Below Deck Sailing Yacht has been filmed in August for a Spring/Summer release schedule the following year . It usually follows after Below Deck 's OG series. The show's airing schedule has been similar since 2020. Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 1 aired in February 2020, and the next three seasons also came out at a similar time. However, season 5 has not followed the norm, and it has a Fall air date of October 7, 2024.
There has been overlap with the main show and its spinoffs before, so it would not be unusual for that to happen again. However, instead of BDSY following its usual schedule, Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 aired first. This is likely due to Gary's misconduct and the public fan outcry over his continued involvement in Below Deck Sailing Yacht . In the past, certain cast members have been edited out when seriously damaging information has come to light about them.
Peter Hunziker from Below Deck Med season 5 was edited out after his past racist social media posts surfaced. The reason Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 is delayed in its release date, is likely due to Gary's behavior and the network's need to edit him from the latest filming. The latest season was likely filmed in Summer 2023 , as has been tradition up until now. This means fans will be watching a season that was filmed almost a year and a half ago.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5's Cast
The usual crew is returning.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5's cast has been confirmed. Captain Glenn will lead the show, as he's the main icon. Gary will also be resuming his duties as the First Officer , as some of his posts suggest he was in Ibiza during filming. Chief Engineer Colin MacRae lives and breathes sea life, but he will not be returning to Captain Glenn's side. Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher is very busy these days but will be making a return to the show that made her a Bravo icon.
The confirmed crew for BDSY season 5 is as follows:
Glenn Shephard | Captain |
Gary King | First Officer |
Davide Morosi | Chief Engineer |
Daisy Kelliher | Chief Stewardess |
Cloyse Martin | Chef |
Diana Cruz | Stewardess |
Danni Warren | Stewardess |
Keith Allen | Deckhand |
Emma Crouch | Deckhand |
So season 5 will have three returning faces, and a bevy of new ones that will take on the challenges of maintaining the sail boat and looking afte the guests.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Trailer
Below deck mediterranean just ended.
The Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 trailer was released on September 12, 2024. Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 with Captain Sandy Yawn at the helm and Below Deck Down Under Chief Stew Aesha Scott returning to the Med series just aired its finale episode. In the season 5 trailer, Daisy had a lot of screen time. The Cheif Stew, who was entangled in a love triangle in season 4, is back and means business.
"I'm f***ing good at my job and I'm taking back the reigns."
Daisy has a lot to prove this season, and it looks like that is what she is setting out to do. However, she does not appear to be opposed to a boatmance, as she was seen kissing one her crewmates.
Gary was barely featured in the trailer, likely due to the public's disdain for him. At this point, it's unclear how big of a role he will play in season 5 given the sexual misconduct allegations. But knowing Gary, he is sure get involved in a boatmance of his own because he has proven he can't hep himself.
Gary will likely get a villain edit in season 5. A scene in the trailer was shown where Gary was scolding a female deck team member, and instead of coming off as helpful like he should in his role, he came off as condescneding. More will be revealed about how Gary leads the deck team this time around. There will also be issues with the Chef, as Daisy points out in the trailer. An unappetizing-looking meal was plated and Daisy made a comment about how it was unservable.
Also in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, the Parsifal III will get into some trouble when another boat gets too close in the middle of the night. It's unclear from the trailer whether the two vessels will make contact. Another scene shows the usually calm Captain Glenn becoming enraged and waking up the crew. Captain Glenn will also fire someone this season. Despite Gary's appearance in season 5, it should be an entertaining season.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht premieres Monday, October 7 at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
