Inside the Arctic P — Business Tycoon James Packer’s Million Dollar Superyacht

Titled one of the largest superyachts in the world, the Arctic P, owned by billionaire James Packer, is currently making headlines after he offered it to his fiancée Mariah Carey. The business tycoon, who vacationed in Europe all through summer with Mariah, has often been spotted travelling across the globe on this yacht.

From having a private helipad to well-decorated interiors, this yacht is nothing less than a luxurious floating mansion. Read on to know more about this celebrity-owned luxe vessel.

Built by German company Schichau Seebeckwerft back in 1970, the Arctic P can cover a maximum distance of 18,000 nautical miles at 20 knots speed. The vessel measures 287 feet and can comfortably accommodate 12 guests, a total of 25 people including crew members. Rumoured to be Packer’s most prized possession, the superyacht was inherited by the business tycoon from his father Kerry Packer.

Refitted in 2014, the superyacht boasts of a new super-steel structure which makes the yacht strong enough to dribble through ice floes in the southern ocean. With white exteriors and an electric blue hull, the superyacht looks visually stunning, and stands out amidst the other white-dyed vessels.

The vessel features a stunning master suite with six separate accommodations spread over two levels on the deck. Designed by renowned interior decorator duo C. Kidston and A. Sassoon, the handcrafted furniture on the superyacht is furbished in rich upholstery. The wooden floors are adorned with fine rugs, while the floor-to-ceiling glass doors offer guests an unparalleled view of the ocean.

While many superyachts own motor boats and sea bikes, the Arctic P is well-equipped to hold a private helicopter as it has a helipad on its deck.

Apart from stunning suites and the private helipad, the yacht also features an observation tower, amphitheatre, Jacuzzi and swimming pool. In fact, Packer is known to have hosted many celebrity parties on this yacht.

Talking of celebrities, this yacht has also hosted personalities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Miranda Kerr, Kelly Rohrbach, Alan Jones and more.

The Antarctic is a magnificent yet treacherous place – and the further south you sail, the greater the challenge. This is something that the crew of Arctic P discovered when they broke the Guinness World Record for the furthest south any vessel has ever travelled – 677 nautical miles from the South Pole.

Arctic P is a true one-off, as evidenced in another memorable trip, to Icy Bay in Alaska. “That trip was something else,” says Captain Russell Pugh, who led the mission. “It was incredible. Because of Arctic P ’s ice capacity, we were able to get into a bay, which even the pilot said he’d never taken a vessel into before – they usually anchor outside and tender in. Because we can anchor in very deep water, we were able to anchor overnight in the bay itself – it was amazing to have these giant icebergs moving around us all night. And it was an incredible feeling waking up to the sight of massive waterfalls coming off glaciers. It was very special.”

The 87.57-metre Arctic P is renowned for her sturdiness, endurance and flexibility. “She is special because of her seaworthiness,” says Pugh. “A lot of new vessels have modern stabilisers, but due to the sheer weight of Arctic P – she’s an 87-metre vessel [with] a seven-metre draught – she’s incredibly sturdy. She was designed to rescue boats, so you’re never overly concerned about weather conditions or what you may encounter as you know you’re on a very safe platform.”

Considering the areas that she often travels in, safety is key. The best way to protect yourself on an extreme expedition is to prepare for – and be able to handle – all conditions, says Pugh. “There’s no denying that weather is your greatest challenge. There are other challenges, like satisfying the guests’ needs and desires, but, to me, the underlying challenge is weather. That’s where Arctic P holds its own – she can handle extremes comfortably,” he says.

“One time in Antarctica, we were driving into an ice cliff and I looked over the side. Instantly, I could see the water freezing – ‘pancaking’ they call it – so I turned to the other pilot and said, ‘I think it’s time to go.’ Another time, we were in Alaska, in a place called Cold Bay, battling 60 to 70 knots of wind and we had to get the guests off, but we somehow managed to berth and do it.”

These extremes are nothing new to Pugh, who cut his teeth working on cargo ships around 30 years ago. He spent the first eight years of his nautical career working on them – and bulk carriers – before moving into cruise ships with Windstar Cruises and Radisson Seven Seas Cruises for four years. Following this, he secured a position leading the crew on 126 metre Octopus , one of the world’s largest yachts, built for the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. He spent the next three years embarking on exploration projects and scientific research expeditions in some of the world’s most far-flung destinations.

In 2007, Pugh joined Arctic P , which has been owned by the Packer family since 1994. He’s since guided it through various refits and piloted numerous expeditions across the globe from Alaska to the Galapagos .

To Pugh, working on board the vessel is a dream come true: “ Arctic P has always been a vessel I wanted to be on – I actually told the owner at the time that I’d written to his father when he was alive, asking for a job. It’s the crossover between commercial and yachting, so you’ve got the best of both worlds.”

Much like Octopus , one of Arctic P ’s strongest USPs is that she can travel almost anywhere. She has excellent fuel capacity, which means she has the endurance to do lengthy cross-seas trips – something not many yachts can do. “A lot of yachts can do the peninsula out of South America, but not many yachts can do the Ross Sea out of Australia and New Zealand – that endurance is unusual,” he says.

Arctic P is for people who love the feel of being on a real boat. In fact, this is something that her current owner, Australian investor and philanthropist Gretel Packer, likes the most about her. “She loves to be on board and she loves the motion of the vessel,” says Pugh. “ Arctic P is an old tug. You can hear it running, you can hear the engine – unlike on a modern yacht when you don’t even know the engines are running or not – and she loves that. She loves the whole feeling of the ship vibrating and that feeling of being alive.”

When Packer is on board, she usually goes on trips of several weeks, staying on board for crossings, such as the Panama Canal ( right ), rather than flying to meet the crew at the final destination.

“[ Arctic P ] was one of the first – possibly the actual first – expedition yacht in the world, and that extraordinary conversion was undertaken by my parents,” says Packer. “So, for me, there is just so much history. Plus, I find her very beautiful.

“I have so many special moments on board, [such as] travelling through the night from the Galápagos to Panama on a glassy quiet sea with an escort of petrel seabirds, who accompanied us for 24 hours and roosted above the monkey deck.

“Possibly the most breathtaking experience was the extraordinary, bracingly cold day in Antarctica when a humpback whale and her calf became curious about us. They spent about two hours alongside us, diving beneath us, popping up at the bow, disappearing and then reappearing at the platform at the stern while we were at anchor. It was one of the most sublime experiences of my life.

“My ultimate travel bucket list at this moment is to circumnavigate Antarctica, circumnavigate the British Isles – up into Scandinavia, through the Northwest Passage, and down into Alaska, or the other way around – and explore the Pacific more.”

Currently, the yacht is in French Polynesia, one of Pugh’s favourite destinations. “The greatest thing about French Polynesia is that even with a vessel the size of Arctic P , you can go from atoll to atoll. No matter what the weather is doing outside, you sail into these amazing, beautiful atolls.

“It’s scenic, the people are lovely and friendly, and it’s got a very interesting culture and history with the Polynesian, the French and the Chinese nationalities there,” he says. “The other great thing about French Polynesia is that you’re linked to the world – there are amenities if you need them.”

Arctic P has been used as a private yacht since Australian businessman and media proprietor Kerry Packer AC (Gretel’s father) bought and converted her in the 1990s. When Gretel took over ownership from her brother James Packer in 2018, she decided to repurpose her for charter.

“The owner is extremely passionate about Arctic P . We’ve done four major refits to get her up to a better and better standard, but now she wants to take it to the next level, which is chartering,” says Pugh. “This is very interesting for a lot of us, after doing so many years working for private owners. Managing charter guests is a very different mindset. We’re a family-orientated boat. When they’re on, you’re involved with the owners. When you become a charter vessel, however, you’re offering a service, so you change to the service industry mentality.”

The expedition yacht, built by shipyard Schichau Unterweser in 1969, can sleep up to 12 guests in seven suites plus 28 crew. Alongside dining and relaxation spaces, she has a beach club, a gym and a cinema. Arctic P can also carry a wealth of toys – a 14-metre Endeavour tender, 12-metre Donzi tender, 10-metre Riva tender, plus jet skis, water skis, Seabobs, kayaks, scuba diving equipment and more. A helipad also doubles as a sunbathing or play area when not in use.

She will appeal to a client who wants to travel to places “out of the normal reach” rather than those seeking luxury indulgence. “We can offer to go anywhere our guests want,” says Pugh. “This is unusual because people tend to stick to the same set – an Antarctica season, a Greenland season, a Caribbean season. We wanted to be more open to whatever charterers would like to request.”

As Packer and her family have experienced, it’s clear Arctic P has many more fascinating voyages in store. “We want people to be able to fulfil their dreams,” says Pugh.

Australian billionaire James Packer has listed his Italian-built superyacht for sale for a whopping $283 million.

The casino mogul bought the yacht in 2019, which boasts a cinema, nightclub, swimming pool and barber’s salon, and was originally purchased for around $200 million.

The yacht which is named IJE, believed to be after his three children Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle, has been listed on the site of international superyacht broker Burgess Yachts.

It states that it was “built as the ultimate world-cruising family yacht for a very experienced owner” and can fit 22 guests in 11 cabins, which includes a private owner’s deck.

Inside there’s a relaxed beach house-style interior by Benetti with IJE the longest yacht ever created by the company, while its also the flagship of their custom fleet.

The 108m yacht is described as having a “timeless sculptural exterior” and includes an elevator and three functioning levels including a sun lounge bridge deck with a firepit and open air dining with a lounge and bar on the main deck.

There’s also a great array of toys and watercraft that come with the yacht too, such as two 12m tenders, boats attached to the yacht.

The broker’s website described the 54-year-old’s yacht as offering “true world cruising credentials” with its Rolls Royce dynamic positioning system

His purchase of IJE followed after he gifted his 288-foot Artic P yacht to his sister Gretel in 2017, while he previously owned the 170-foot Amels Seahorse that was sold in 2015.

Mr Packer’s current net worth is estimated to be around $US3 billion ($A4 billion), according to Forbes.

Australian billionaire James Packer is putting the finishing touches on his sprawling $50 million Mexican mansion after three years of construction.

The massive single-storey estate occupies one of the largest beachfront blocks in Cabo San Lucas, located on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula.

And it appears not all the locals are impressed by the mansion, with one neighbour telling the Daily Mail it looked “more like a maximum-security prison” than a billionaire’s home.

The home is tucked behind a towering wall facing the street. Seven separate buildings make up the residence and features a large open air courtyard, an infinity pool and manicured lawns.

But if aren’t in the market for a Mexican prison-like mansion, Packer has an even more expensive residence for sale that will blow the international escape out of the water.

You won’t find many gyms with a better view.

Packer is still searching for a buyer of his epic $283 million Italian-built super yacht IJE.

Featuring a nightclub, 11 cabins, swimming pool and a theatre, the floating palace is nearly three times the cost of Australia’s most expensive home — Fairwater in Point Piper.

Packer’s IJE super yacht was first listed last month and comes only two years after the casino mogul purchased the ship in 2019 for $200 million. It is named after his three children, Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle.

The listing – on the Burgess yacht advertising site — comes after he gave video evidence to the NSW independent Liquor and Gaming inquiry into money laundering in his casinos earlier this year.

The inquiry found Crown Resorts was not fit to operate casinos in NSW and recommended it would need to make some drastic changes before its casino at Barangaroo could open.

Packer, who owns 37 per cent of Crown, later agreed to play no role in how Crown is run for the next three-and-a-half years after the inquiry found his influence was a reason it was unfit to open the new casino.

IJE has accommodation for 22 guests in 11 cabins. The 108m “giga-yacht” comes with a mind-boggling array of features, including a swimming pool, gym and cinema and even your very own barber’s salon.

The next owner can also enjoy two 12m tenders, a private owner’s deck, a swimming pool, lounge, bar and firepit.

Packer is described as “a very experienced owner”.

James Packer Is Already Selling His 108m Benetti Superyacht For Nearly $300 Million

Billionaire casino king James Packer has listed his 108-metre (354 foot) Benetti superyacht IJE for sale after just three years of ownership. The listing popped up on the website of superyacht brokers Burgess yesterday with an asking price of €175 million (roughly AU$282 million).

IJE is the longest motor yacht ever built by the Italian shipyard and takes its name from Packer’s three children – Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle. It was delivered to the casino magnate in late 2019.

You’d suspect, however, for these transactions to occur in private, which isn’t what we’ve seen overnight with Burgess and the listing of IJE .

The yacht can accommodate up to 22 guests across her 3,600 GT interior and features a gym, cinema, day club, salon and spa. The owner’s quarters include a massive freestanding bathtub and an office.

Two custom 14-metre tenders are stored on her foredeck along with eight jet skis, and two fold-out terraces sit above the waterline to allow for a full-beam beach club from port to starboard. Twin MTU engines can send her to a top speed of 18.5 knots across a range of 6500 nautical miles. Interestingly, while cruising, IJE is powered by an entirely electric propulsion system.

IJE will be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show, which will run from September 22nd-25th.

This year’s Palma Boat Show saw a brand new Sunseeker 95 Yacht unveiled, and this one was specifically built for Meros, a co-ownership company. The heavily customised vessel boasts several modifications to suit its co-ownership purpose, both in terms of exterior styling and interior features.

The Meros co-ownership concept revolves around providing a fully equipped yacht with all the necessary toys and crew, allowing owners to simply arrive and enjoy their time on board. The yacht offers an array of amenities, including a Williams 460 Sportjet, ideal for watersports enthusiasts who can ski and wakeboard behind it.

The yacht also features a large hydraulic platform that lowers into the sea for launching and recovering the Sportjet. Additionally, there are other toys such as Seabobs and an e-foil electric surfboard for guests’ entertainment.

Founded by a German entrepreneur, featuring British yachts and fronted by a French brand ambassador, Meros Yachtsharing is staging the premiere of its new Sunseeker Meros Signature 95 superyacht at the 55 th edition of Boot Dusseldorf.

Alpine driver Esteban Ocon – a Meros member and brand ambassador – will present the latest addition to the company’s co-ownership programme, with the new yacht’s official debut held on the second day of the world’s biggest indoor boat show.

The highly customised 28m yacht is the third member of the Meros fleet, along with another Sunseeker 95 Yacht presented in Boot last year and a Sunseeker 86 Yacht. All are managed by seasoned crews that include a captain, deckhand, stewardess and a personal chef, each crew.

Founded in 2019 by an experienced yacht owner inspired by the growth of the sharing economy, Meros Yachtsharing is the exclusive contractual partner and sole provider of a co-ownership model for Sunseeker superyachts in Europe.

The company’s aim is to offer the market an alternative to sole yacht ownership by providing financially attractive terms and guaranteeing a premium experience. Operated from branches in Germany, Spain, Malta and soon the UK, the co-owner programme provides access to the Meros fleet with access to over 10 yachting hotspots in Europe.

Meros is collaborating with Sunseeker London Group, the British builder’s European sales organisation, and industry experts to take care of yacht and crew operations, route planning and administration, so offering far more than asset management.

Meros offers both Flexshare and Quarter co-ownership models. Flexshare involves use of any of the Flexshare fleet by several co-owners and is the home of the Meros concierge, which offers members and co-owners exclusive invites and access to some of the world’s most desirable events such as the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.

As shown in 2023, one of Meros’ yachts is berthed trackside in Monaco and all owners are invited to enjoy a weekend hosted by the platform. In addition to this, Meros members and co-owners receive exclusive benefits from like-minded partners including NetJets and Thirdhome.

Meros also offers a classic co-ownership structure through the Quarter share model, with a 25 per cent stake of one boat, currently available only on the Sunseeker 86 Yacht. In this ownership, co-owners have direct ownership of a privately registered vessel, with Meros supporting and managing the vessel, all communication and crew.

After the success of Meros Flexshare in the Western Mediterranean last year, the programme is expanding into the Eastern Mediterranean and the UAE, allowing clients the opportunity to enjoy yachts in diverse regions and expanding their cruising season. Benefits of the arrangement include eliminating transfer costs and a quicker, easier way of exploring a variety of countries and cultures.

Meros Yachtsharing is also committed to environmental consciousness with an increasing capacity to use HVO-100 fuel across all new yachts. The initiative is supported by Repsol for distribution and MTU (Rolls-Royce) for research and development.

Sunseeker Meros Signature 95, the largest yacht in Düsseldorf 2023 is for rent

Meros offers services for the purchase of yachts over 25 meters in co-ownership. For 2023, in collaboration with its partner Sunseeker, it has developed a 95-foot superyacht, whose design and layout it has reworked. He is thus offering his clients a package to enjoy six weeks per year of all-inclusive vacation in the utmost luxury.

A personalized yacht for Meros clients

Meros Yachtsharing, founded in 2019, is a company that co-owns superyachts over 25m. To build its fleet, it chose to work in collaboration with the British Sunseeker . After adding an 86-foot yacht to its fleet, the company developed, in partnership with the specialist in large production yachts , the Sunseeker Meros Signature 95, a 28.06-meter yacht. With a new look and a different layout, let's discover together and in pictures this new model which will be moored in the southwest of Majorca .

To appeal to a younger audience, Meros decided to give the Sunseeker Meros Signature 95 a new, more modern look with a new paint scheme. The agency also opted for a modification of the bow superstructure, adding black glass.

A redesigned cockpit to extend uses

From the large bathing platform, the transom provides access to a locker for a Williams Jet tender, but above all to the crew area with its 4 berths, as well as to the laundry room. The yacht has a captain, a deckhand, a hostess and a chef.

The large side steps then lead to the cockpit, whose rear bench seat has been specifically adapted to this model. To extend the use of the boat , Meros also decided to be able to close the boat completely, thanks to a home automation system.

A large flybridge with spa

A fixed staircase to starboard provides access to the flybridge, which has also undergone modifications. Inspired by Sunseeker's new Ocean series, it now has a spa area and a crane for handling the jet ski. Also on the fly is a huge U-shaped saloon with tables, a sunbathing area, a large bar and an exterior cockpit, from which a sliding door provides access to the interior cockpit, positioned above the salon. The rigid hard-top opens or closes electrically, to choose between protection and sun.

A bow with an intimate square and a huge sunbathing area

Back in the cockpit, the wide and protected side decks lead to the vast bow. A side opening in the starboard bulwark creates a balcony open to the salon, with removable stanchions, transforming it into a diving platform at anchor . On the foredeck, a U-shaped saloon, well protected by polyester lapels, leads via a few steps to the huge overhanging sundeck .

A living room like at home

Inside, the design was entrusted to the Spanish company Terrazza, who usually fit out luxury villas. The large living room offers a home-like layout, with a large living room with TV and armchairs facing the cockpit, and a dining table for 8 people at the stern. On the port side, you have access to the fully equipped galley, where the chef prepares the meals on board. The starboard gangway leads on the main deck to the Master cabin on three levels, and to the lower deck cabins via a central companionway.

The owner's cabin, located at the front of the main deck, is huge. At the entrance, a toilet reserved for day use can be connected to the Master by closing the door of the large cabin. Its position close to the bed makes it easier to use at night.

On the spacious main level, there is an office area, a large double bed with an unobstructed view of the sea thanks to the huge windows of the hull, a sofa area and a large flat screen TV. A few steps lead to the dressing area, with its many glass closets. Finally, on the third level, still open to the rest, is installed a beautiful bathroom with a double sink, a large walk-in shower and a closed toilet.

Four cabins for 10 persons on the lower deck

On the lower deck, four more cabins can accommodate another 10 people. The two center cabins, with their double beds, have their own bathroom. The other two twin cabins also have their own bathrooms and offer additional sleeping space with a fold-down bed, an option requested by Meros.

Two big engines to enjoy the cruise

With its two MTU 12V 2000 engines, the Sunseeker Meros Signature 95 has a maximum speed of 26 knots and an announced range of 1250 miles at a speed of 10 knots.

A package of weeks to enjoy an all-inclusive vacation

Located in Mallorca, it is offered by the Meros agency through a package called Flex Shares. This system allows different clients to invest in the boat according to the number of weeks they want to spend on board, without owning it. The basic price of 1,250,000 euros for six weeks, to be divided between in-season and off-season periods, allows the boat to be privatized with all the services included: equipment, numerous nautical facilitiesâ?¦ This package also allows the client to switch dates, but also vacation locations by privatizing another yacht from the Meros fleet, in another resort.

The Gran Turismo Mediterranea Is An 88-ft Super Yacht With A Supercar Garage

For just 10 million dollars this yacht could be yours – dreamed up by Italian Rome-based design company Lazzarini Design Studio – at this price you won’t need to cringe at adding the tiny additional cost of having a 300,000 dollar 710 hp Ferrari F8 on the rear deck.

At 88-ft long and weighing under 22 tons, the yacht – although it will spend a lot of time moored hosting parties – will be able to reach 85 mph with the assistance of a total engine output of 6600 hp.

In the promotional video , you can see the boat rendered in all its red and black glory, and we can see multiple cues on the outside which have drawn heavily from the classic supercar design ethos.

Starting up front, there are raked headlights that remind us of sleek LED lights you might find on the front of your Ferrari F8 or a Lamborghini Aventador, while there are supercar-style clamshell doors that open upwards.

From the front to the sides, double air scoops are very typical of supercar design, and ending up back, past the huge rear wing which is very reminiscent of a sports car, are multiple exits that look like exhaust pipes – no clue whether they are actually connected to the engines or not.

Also in the video, we’re treated to a glimpse of the ‘wings’ which expand from the yacht over 23 mph and lift it out of the water, which looks even more impressive.

It’s not just a well-resolved design - plenty of other over-the-top yachts look more ostentatious than this, except for the Ferrari on the back – there is plenty more inside for the owner or guests to enjoy,

Apart from the cabin for a crew of 2, presumably the captain and the chef -there are 3 to 4 bedrooms, smart minimalist décor including glass doors and partitions, and multiple levels for the various compartments, plus a living room.

In the renders, the living room is as detailed and comfy looking as most small city apartments, with a table and chairs, a workstation in the corner, and a welcoming bedroom at the front.

Apparently, the interior can be customized subject to the buyer’s requirements, if you can afford the boat then you can probably pay extra for a bar, massage table, and laser light show.

A NEW yacht which has been dubbed a hyperyacht has been revealed - and its like something out of a movie.

The racy new 9m superyacht design is a tribute to Ferrari, coming in the famous Rosso Corsa red.

A new Ferrari-inspired yacht has been designed

The 90ft Gran Turismo Mediterranea (GTM) concept even features space for a Ferrari car for land-based adventures.

Inside is a racing-inspired cockpit as well as pilot seats and gullwing doors.

Onboard there are two double guest cabins, a main saloon as well as rooms for three crew members.

It is built from carbon fibre and even has a Ferrari badge on the front.

And unlike other yachts, it has aerodynamic wings which lets it glide over the waves at speeds of around 70 knots, working out to 80mph.

Rome-based Lazzarini Studios say the eye-catching vessel has been designed by taking inspiration from Maranello's latest hypercars and have dubbed it a 'hyperyacht'.

They said in a statement: “We tried to imagine how a Ferrari of the seas would look."

They added: “While the propellers are limited in steering, the jet will provide thrust in acceleration and turning degrees at high speeds."

The yacht remains as just a concept for now, with no plans for it to be built.

Lazzarini also revealed a concept superyacht designed for billionaires with a 200ft 'gaping hole' of empty space inside it.

Last month, the first images inside the biggest yacht in the world have been revealed ahead of its launch in 2024.

Somnio, when launched, will be both the largest and longest yacht in the world.

Lazzarini a conçu l'arrière du bateau de manière à ce que vous puissiez littéralement conduire votre Ferrari à bord.

The logo on the front of Ferrari's latest product may actually be a seahorse, as brand appears to be planning a yacht

Ferrari is known for making super fast cars, and more recently SUVs too , but generally we associate the prancing horse with terrestrial pursuits. However, the Italian automaker may soon be expanding into the maritime realm, if a new teaser is anything to go on.

The Italian brand’s Instagram page has been flooded with a bevy of photos depicting churning water, and it has posted a short video showing what appears to be the blade of a hydrofoil. That all suggests that the brand’s logo may soon become a seahorse.

If that turns out to be the case, Ferrari would be anything but the first automaker to attach its name to a yacht . A quick look through our archive reveals that Bentley , Porsche , Lamborghini , and Mercedes-AMG branding (to name just a few examples) have all been applied to boats. Polestar technology has even gone into a hydrofoil.

Nor would this mark Ferrari’s first maritime endeavor. In the ’50s, Enzo Ferrari supplied Achille Castoldi with the 4.5-liter V12 from his racing team’s F1 car. The engine found its way into a boat that set a record of 150.49 mph (242.19 km/h) on Lake Iseo in Italy.

Later, in the ’90s, a limited run of Riva Ferrari 32 speedboats were created by the Italian companies. As Top Gear points out, the two remain official partners to this day, suggesting that Riva may be involved in this project.

Based on the teaser video, the companies may be working on a hydrofoil. This type of vessel uses wings under the water to lift the hull off the surface, significantly reducing hydrodynamic drag.

This would be a perfect time for Ferrari to unveil a new yacht. The automaker has been working to reorganize its branding department so that its logo is applied more carefully , and only to luxurious products.

Luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari enters world of sailing

Luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari has announced plans to enter the world of sailing under the guidance of team principal and acclaimed navigator, Giovanni Soldini. The Maranello-based company's search for maximum performance at sea marks a new chapter in its longstanding history, which it hopes will simultaneously be "a stimulus in the evolution of its sports cars".

The Prancing Horse will utilise cutting-edge technologies throughout the entire cycle, from conception and engineering to realisation.

The chairman of Ferrari, John Elkann, said: “We are about to embark on an exciting journey that will expand our racing soul. With this new competitive challenge, motivated by our innovative capacity and commitment to sustainability, we will push beyond current boundaries. We are happy to be able to count on Giovanni, who is extraordinary in terms of experience, determination and team spirit.”

Giovanni has over 30 years of solo and crewed ocean competition, including two solo around-the-world races. He commented: “I am thrilled to start this new adventure with Ferrari. We are working on an important and cutting-edge project with amazing technological potential that brings together different worlds and skills of the highest level. Working with an exceptional team in the research and development of innovative solutions that are respectful of our environment is a truly unique experience.”

Ferrari Is Building Its First Sailing Yacht for Ocean Racing

Ferrari is diving headfirst into the world of yachting.

The Prancing Horse announced on Wednesday that it is preparing to enter the world of competitive sailing, with noted yachtsman Giovanni Soldini serving as team principal.

"We are about to embark on an exciting journey that will expand our racing soul," Ferrari chairman John Elkann said in a statement . "With this new competitive challenge, motivated by our innovative capacity and commitment to sustainability, we will push beyond current boundaries."

Ferrari has competed in Formula 1 every season since the world championship began in 1950. It also made a successful return to endurance racing last year, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in nearly 60 years. With such racing chops, Ferrari seems well-placed to expand from tracks and circuits to the high seas.

It helps that Soldini is an expert in the field. The Italian has more than 30 years of experience in ocean racing, competing in both solo and crewed events. He even has two round-the-world races under his belt.

"I am thrilled to start this new adventure with Ferrari," adds Soldini. "We are working on an important and cutting-edge project with an amazing technological potential that brings together different worlds and skills of the highest level."

Ferrari did not release any details regarding the yacht itself. It may not be surprising if the marque designed a high-speed foiling yacht for the America's Cup, though. Prominent teams in the prestigious sailing competition have already partnered with powerhouse F1 brands : Alinghi with Red Bull Racing, Luna Rossa with Pirelli, and INEOS with Mercedes-AMG Petronas.

The Prancing Horse clearly has the engineering prowess required to build an AC75 for the America's Cup. Considered the most complex racing yachts on the water, the 75-foot monohulled foilers "fly" across the water at speeds of up to 50 knots (58 mph). The marque could also be working on an F50 race boat for SailGP. Described as a hot-rod version of Cup racers, the 50-foot catamaran has thinner carbon-fiber "L" foils than the AC75 and is thus faster. It can also soar to 52 knots (60 mph).

That certainly sounds like a Ferrari.
