We agreed to it initially but when we arrived discovered we couldn't do it that day. On Sunday (well before the 24 hour cancellation window) we attempted to cancel and because RALYM had not let Tripadvisor know they had changed the date we were unable to cancel on the website. RALYM refused to give a refund even though it was more than 24 hours in advance. After several days of contacting RALYM, Tripadvisor and eventually our credit card we were finally able to get a refund but it was a big hassle and we were not treated well by anyone we contacted. The waterfalls themselves are very cool to sea, if you want to take some cool photos and swim under the falls you can definitely do that here. What you need to know before you go is listed below: The trek to the falls is not easy at all, although you can walk it it is not suggested to do so. Almost everyone goes on horseback and there are locals who will walk you up and down the treachurous terrain until you get to a landing area, the total horseback ride is about 20 to 25 minutes each way and it is pretty scary. Once you get off the horses you then have about another 15 to 20 minute walk down about 200 steps through some jungle till you get to the falls. Once at the falls you have about 1/2 until you have to make the journey back. The local guides that walk with each of you are not paid by the tour so be prepared to tip them. I had two kids with me and having the guide was very helpful, these people work hard to be fair and give them a 20 to 25 dollar tip each, for the 3 of us I gave them 75 dollars. Also at the falls there are some people with parrots, they are very good about taking pictures with the kids but again they work for tips, I gave the guy 5 bucks but he spent a lot of time with my kids, so be courteous to these people if you use their services, it's their only way to make money. My take overall, I loved the falls but I feel the trip is somewhat dangerous, I read in some reviews people falling off horses and getting hurt, and it is very steep. If you have young kids, are afraid of horses, heights or have issues hiking I would not recommend this trip as it is pretty demanding. If you are in decent shape and not afraid of heights and horses, it's worth it to do. Read more Written April 7, 2019

The Captain

Welcome aboard.

Bernard , French captain, started his sailor life at La Rochelle and spent most of his life on the seas and oceans. Thanks to his experience, he will convey his passion for the sea and will share with you his many maritime experiences. In 2010, he unpacked one’s bags in Dominican Republic. After spending three years building the boat on the Cumayasa river coasts, the Captain can finally makes you enjoying the 75-foot luxurious Catamaran Quetzal for a day trip or a cruise to the islands of Saona and Catalina in a friendly atmosphere.

Catamaran excursion

This was one of our best tours . The catamaran, the crew was great, they were dancing with the tourist, got everyone involved, which made for a wonderful tour. We made a stop, whoever wanted to go into the water and take pics, took the kids, which they all enjoyed. The island was great, we had a buffet luncheon, the food was very tasty. Full day tour, good fun . Santo Domingo tour is also great. If you really like to see and hear about the history of a beautiful city, it’s a must. My best part of this tour was the caves, unbelievable sight, great our guides, Would recommend this tour . Our young people all did the ATV. They had a good time, but said their best time was going to COCO BONGO. A theme club that had entertainers and events that they had never seen.

Fun and relaxed day of sailing

I joined Quetzal for a day trip to the stunning Saona Island. The catamaran is really spacious and comfortable and Bernard and the crew just blew my expectations away. I had a unforgettable day of relaxed sailing, swimming, snorkeling and lots of fun. I highly recommend booking with Quetzal .

All the beauty the Caribbean has to offer will be within your reach with this Saona Island catamaran tour . You'll discover a true tropical paradise!

We'll pick you up between 6:30 and 6:40 am at the  Cathedral of Our Lady of the Incarnation . Then we'll go to Bayahibe , where we'll board a speedboat to go to Saona Island.

Halfway through the trip, we'll stop for 40 minutes at the natural swimming pool Laguna Azul so that you can enjoy a unique sandbank in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. Next to this lake, there is a starfish sanctuary, so keep your eyes peeled!

We'll then sail to Saona Island , a paradisiacal place belonging to the National Park of the East. There, you'll have two hours and 45 minutes to explore on your own the coral reefs, the mangroves and the extensive palm-covered beaches.

At 1 pm we'll enjoy a succulent buffet lunch consisting of meats and various side dishes. Enjoy! With renewed strength, we'll board a catamaran to start our return journey. On the way back, you'll enjoy a party, dancing and entertainment.

The tour will end by taking you back to your departure point in Santo Domingo between 6:30 and 6:40 pm.

Santo Domingo East carnival concludes with a spectacular display of culture

Santo Domingo.- The Santo Domingo East carnival came to a vibrant close, with over 45 troupes from various regions parading along España Avenue. Thousands of residents and visitors gathered to witness this colorful spectacle, marking the culmination of the cultural event organized by the Santo Domingo East City Council through the Culture Directorate.

The objective of this celebration is to preserve a fundamental aspect of the Dominican identity—the carnival. In this edition, Yiyo Sarante and Lucía Tavarez played pivotal roles as the carnival kings.

Mayor Manuel Jiménez, emphasizing the significance of the occasion, stated, “We will conclude the final carnival of our administration with grand festivities, as major events deserve memorable closures.” The festivities unfolded on a captivating stage in front of the Olé supermarket on España Avenue.

Salsa singer Yiyo Sarante and the musical group Urbanda took center stage, enchanting the audience with their extensive repertoire from the early afternoon. The atmosphere was filled with joy as residents and visitors alike reveled in the present moment.

The parade featured troupes in various categories, such as traditional, fantasy, alibaba, diablo cojuelo, popular, individual, and historical creativity. Winners in these categories will be awarded prizes totaling RS$1 million 350 thousand.

Additionally, RD$1.6 million was allocated to support local troupes, bringing the total amount to be distributed to RD$2.9 million.

A notable addition to this year’s carnival was the participation of the typical group Urbanda, sponsored by the National Brewery and its Cerveza Presidente brand. Moreover, several provinces, including San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, Baní, Cotuí, Santo Domingo Norte, and Santo Domingo Oeste, contributed to the diversity of the event.

Distinguished personalities from the cultural field, including Eddy Sánchez, Zoneida de la Cruz, Francisco Medina, and Kenia García, formed the jury for this edition.

This carnival not only acknowledges the importance of this tradition as part of the Dominican cultural heritage but also reaffirms the institution’s commitment to supporting the nation’s traditional artistic expressions.
