Triple J presents The Yacht Club DJs: Batten Down the Hatches Tour, with very special guests DZ and Howl.

Crowd pleasing mash-up duo the Yacht Club DJs are back after a string of manic music festival performances. Late last year, the pair took their infectious brand of sugar pop infused with hardcore, punk and hip hop mashes on the road, selling out their national Kleptomania Tour.

Starting the 2009/10 summer festival season with a bang, the boys returned to the stage that broke them for an unprecedented set at the Meredith Music Festival. Few artists are ever asked to return to the stage two years in a row and the Yacht Club DJs did not disappoint the thousands of eager punters who packed the amphitheatre for their second electric performance.

Tickets cost $15 for pre-sale from Moshtix or $18 on the door.

We made it through the apocalyptic start to 2012 with no zombie sightings, but Australia's own mash-up maestros Yacht Club DJs are about to make sure 2012 gets a dose of '50s horror throughout March and April when they hit the road on the "They Mostly Come At Night... Mostly" tour.

Frightening both capital cities and regional towns, including Toowoomba, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Geelong, Ballarat, Hobart, Wollongong, Canberra and Newcastle, Yacht Club DJs take to the stage with their take on a B Grade Horror flick - Zombies, fake blood, plus lots of dancing and, as always, nudity. Their first national tour since 2010, Australia best be wary of what they've got in store.

Ballarat's Guy Chappell-Lawrence and Gareth (Gaz) Harrison better known as the Yacht Club DJs will take their on-stage antics to the next level preparing to let night terrors loose on Australia.

Guy and Gaz - good friends from mingling at the local - found their common ground in their eclectic and diverse taste of music including pop, hardcore and hip-hop plus a little bit of Australian larrikin. Bonding over how they spent their childhood compiling long lists of songs that would get the party started, they began DJing to their friends as residents of Karova Lounge in Ballarat. But it didn't stop there.

They've played parties all over Australia to more than just their friends, named on many festival bills including Meredith Music Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Parklife, Falls Festival, Field Day and Groovin' In The Moo.

The Yacht Club DJs take on the mash-up genre and their explosive concoction of classic pop, metal, theme songs and anything in-between is a testament to their knowledge of back catalogues as well as Guy's constant desire to forage the Internet for hidden gems to get the crowd moving.

Adding to the horror party will be the Yacht Club DJs hometown friends, Hunting Grounds. The six-piece with a rambunctious attitude, will rival the Yacht Club DJs as to who can turn the dance floor into a riot.

Hunting Grounds took out the crown of 2009 triple j Unearthed High winner and have since moved on from playing in the Ballarat High School hall to national support slots of The Living End, Children Collide and the Philly Jays. The hyperactive energy and frenetic sounds of Hunting Grounds will prepare the crowd for the ramshackle set of Yacht Club DJs .

Making it a night to dismember the Yacht Club DJs and Hunting Grounds will show the crowd how debauchery and disruption is done.

AMAALA Reveals Iconic New Yacht Club Designs

Designed by leading architecture firm HKS, signature 7,900sqm yacht club set over four floors is the centerpiece of stunning marina development plans

Riyadh, (23 May 2022):  AMAALA, the ultra-luxury development located along Saudi Arabia’s north-western coast, has revealed its iconic design for the Triple Bay Yacht Club. Set within the Triple Bay Marina of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Nature Reserve, AMAALA’s new Yacht Club is a keystone development with a captivating free-flowing structure that aims to create a one-of-a-kind meeting point between land and sea. “AMAALA is one of the flagship Saudi Vision 2030 projects and remains central to the Kingdom’s ambition to become a global tourism leader. We anticipate that AMAALA will become an international hub for luxury yachting, and as such, the yacht club required a world-class design, influenced by the surrounding natural elements and Arabic heritage, and underpinned by our commitment to sustainability,” said John Pagano, CEO, AMAALA. “HKS has created a signature piece of architecture at the heart of Triple Bay, and I look forward to seeing the concept become a globally iconic meeting place for luxury yachting enthusiasts from all over the world.” Drawing design inspiration from two sets of geometry, HKS first looked to the unique rock formations on the Saudi Red Sea coastline to create the club’s bespoke cantilevered terraces, which echo the natural shape of the surrounding cliffs, eroded over time by wind and sea. “We were clear from the outset that we wanted to create a building of its place, with the design drawing inspiration from local landscapes and culture, alongside the nature of the marine lifestyle.  The team wanted to reimagine the yacht club as a modern concept, a home from home for nautical enthusiasts from all backgrounds, from leisure to elite sport,” said Dan Flower, HKS Design Director and Lead Architect for AMAALA Yacht Club. The second inspiration is drawn from mankind’s relationship with the sea and maritime history. This nautical edge will ensure the building sits seamlessly within the marina as a central hub and focal point. Alongside the ‘sea meets land’ concept, the design references the concept of a traditional Arabian house with a simple smooth white exterior that is cut back to reveal luxurious metal externally and a rich palette of natural and locally sourced materials internally such as stone, timber, and leather. “AMAALA offers an unparalleled opportunity to shape a new tourism destination and a new home for yachting on the Red Sea. It is a privilege to be involved as designers of this iconic yacht club, which is a centerpiece for the marina and set to evolve the guest experience,” explained Kevin Underwood, Global Head of Hospitality at HKS. “We brought together the global expertise of our firm, using our experience of creating luxury destinations to create something truly innovative and contemporary. Sustainability in all aspects is at the heart of our design, seamlessly integrating the building with the stunning mountain and marine landscape of the Red Sea,” he added. Covering 7,900 sq. m. and set on four levels, the ultra-luxurious club is set to create a home from home for its members whether to do business, relax, entertain or take part in a calendar of yachting events. Arrival is a key moment for guests by land or by water, with the entrance set within an arch that forms a shaded plaza and frames dramatic views to the Red Sea. The area has a mirrored vaulted ceiling over a star-lit floor which creates an alternative night sky for guests in the evening. The interior of the club, also designed by HKS, along with the landscaping detail, is as visually stimulating as the exterior, with unparalleled attention to detail to ensure guests remain connected to the landscapes around them. Utilizing local materials with a focus on stone, timber, and metals, and embracing a luxurious, yet authentic brass champagne color scheme, the lounges, and restaurant blend seamlessly together with an infinity loop-like shape throughout. Complimenting the yacht club’s functions, the 10-hectare basin hosts a 120-berth marina for yachts up to 130m in length and is designed for both residents and yachting events, regattas and launches. Deepwater superyacht berths, fuel dock, and personalized service ensure Triple Bay’s future rating as a destination for visiting superyachts, international regattas, and domestic cruising. Set across 4,155 sq. km. and due to welcome first guests in 2024, Triple Bay spans three natural bays along the coastline. The destination is designed to create a one-of-a-kind global wellness hub and is underpinned by a commitment to sustainable development. The whole development is targeting a minimum LEED Gold standard for environmental sustainability. Phase One of Triple Bay is on track to complete in 2024. It consists of eight resorts offering upwards of 1,300 hotel keys and will also feature a range of luxury F&B outlets, retail, and leisure facilities. Work is well underway on-site to progress enabling infrastructure, groundwork, and key assets with more than 1,000 workers already on site. More than 250 contracts have been awarded to date in excess of 5 billion riyals, with nearly one billion riyals awarded in the first quarter of this year alone, as delivery of the project ramps up on site. A further 1.2 billion riyals is expected to be awarded in the second quarter of the year and an RFP for the Utilities PPP has already been issued to the market, to ensure the development meets its sustainability ambitions. The destination will be off-grid, powered solely by renewable energy. AMAALA is a core component of the Vision 2030 strategy to diversify the economy by enabling rapid growth in the tourism sector. The project is expected to create upwards of 50,000 new direct, indirect, and induced jobs for Saudis, as well as upwards of 11 billion riyals to the country’s GDP once fully operational. – ENDS –

Yacht Club DJs Set Sail For Sneakers

Earning themselves a reputation as filthy track-slinging party-starters by swimming through the sweat-drenched dance floors and festival pits of this great sunburned nation, Yacht Club DJs are heading up to Purple Sneakers and they’re doing it Bruce Willis style, with a vengeance.

Ever eager to cop an earful of hot gossip from some DJs, Mikey Carr caught up with the Melbourne based tune merchants for a bit of a chinwag.

Music Feeds: So Yacht Club DJs ay, would you describe yourselves as salty sonic sea dogs? How does nautical travel influence your DJing?

Yacht Club DJs: The sweat on the dance floor is about as salty as it gets, M.I.T’s butt crack is a huge influence.

MF: You’ve been playing a lot of massive shows across the country these past few months, any particular shows stick out in your mind as being especially wild? I heard your set at Falls was legendary.

YCDJs: For crowds and all round fun, Hometown Advantage at the Karova Lounge is always amazing and Purple Sneakers in Sydney. I think the best festival was Meredith Music Festival, crazy crowd (10,000), beautiful venue and god was on our side… it stopped raining for the first time in the whole festival the second we got on stage!

MF: As a DJ is it your goal to see the punters dance themselves to exhaustion? How do you acheive it? Any special patented Yach Club DJ moves you’d like to share?

YCDJs: Definitely! We edit a lot of our set to keep the energy up (which we do cop some flack for, playing too many songs etc..). But we are committed to not resting on our laurels, we starting playing the way we do now because we were sick of going out and not hearing the songs we love and hearing 5-10 minute club tracks that get old after 1…

MF: How do you prepare for a show at a big festival like Falls etc? Is it any different from preparing for a club set?

YCDJs: For sure, we always get really excited before them and make new sets, so each one is a new experience for us, as well as the crowd!

MF: Are you excited to be playing in Sydney again? Do you enjoy playing here? How do you find the crowd?

YCDJs: We really love Sydney, while Melbourne is our home town we find people here much friendlier and willing to let their hair down, you gotta really work to get Melbournians going crazy.

MF: You’re playing the notorious Purple Sneakers, do you have anything special in mind? Have you brought up anything special, say a hazard suit or gas mask?

YCDJs: We wanna borrow M.I.T’s deck guitar (a cdj1000 that you play like a guitar!). We have started bringing a blow-up boat to crowd surf in too!

MF: You’ve played purple sneakers before, how would you describe it to a newcomer and what was your first experience like?

YCDJs: Totally amazing! We didn’t have much of a following in Sydney when we first started, so having everyone there be so nice and get us totally hammered was great!

MF: With almost every guy who can afford a set of decks learning to DJ these days, do you have to try and set yourselves apart from the crowd? How do you do that, what makes Yacht Club DJs different from other crews?

YCDJs: We have always played the songs we love that get people up and partying, but we started editing and making mashups to give people their favourite songs in a new and exciting way. We also treat Yacht Club like a band rather than like DJs. We try to put on a show rather than two dudes just standing still playing bangers, ha ha.

MF: When you’re not out starting the party, what do you listen to at home to relax? Any guilty pleasures we wopuldn’t expect to find in your CD collection?

YCDJs: Pretty much exclusively guilty pleasures actually, we get so sick of all the popular songs from being out all the time that we love to listen to anything from Pantera to Mariah Carey in our down time.

MF: With music being your job does it ever get old or tiring? What do you do if that happens?

YCDJs: Never, if its getting old an tiring we get back to the drawing board and jazz it up.

SPACE MOSCOW TO OPEN THIS MONTH

Space Ibiza – three time winner of the Top 100 Clubs poll is now very much a global brand – with outposts everywhere from Egypt, to New York, Brazil and Dubai – in addition to their Balearic home.

The latest outpost is the Russian capital of Moscow. Space Moscow opens to the pubic on December 14th, where they will present their new resident Danny Marquez alongside massive headliner Tiesto.

Located in downtown Moscow, near to the International Trade Centre, Space Moscow is a huge 9,000 square meter space with four arenas across three levels – all equipped with the same Funktion one rig that rocks Ibiza each and every summer.

Tickets for the opening party are available now from the Space Website priced at €45.
