Marriott Is Opening a New All-Inclusive Resort in the Dominican Republic 

Marriott is set to open its first-ever Marriott-branded all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic early next year, Caribbean Journal has learned. 

The company will be adding the former Sunrise Miches Beach Resort to its All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, with plans to open the resort in the first quarter of 2025. 

That will include what Marriott called a “conversion process” that will begin in the next few months. 

The 498-room Marriott Miches Beach Resort, An All-Inclusive Resort will be set on almost 1,000 feet of beach in the increasingly hot area of Miches, where Dominican tourism officials have put much of their development energy in recent years. 

The area is home to a burgeoning pipeline of new hotels, joining the already-debuted Club Med Miches to a pair of Temptation-branded resorts. 

Miches is set on the south part of the bay of Samana, northwest of Punta Cana by about an hour’s drive. The area is set to welcome another major new all-inclusive resort with the anticipated launch of the Hilton Zemi Miches all-inclusive resort later this year.  

So what will the hotel be like? The plan is for a large spa, six eateries, three bar-lounges, three pools, a jacuzzi, a fitness center and a disco, among other amenities. 

Marriott is opening its first Marriott-branded all-inclusive in the Caribbean later this month in Cancun. 

The All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy collection already has six properties in the Dominican Republic: five under the Royalton brand and a sixth in the Sanctuary Cap Cana resort.

Boat carrying 6 migrants landed in the Town of Jupiter Island

JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. (CBS12) — A boat carrying six migrants from the Dominican Republic landed Saturday night at Coral Cove Park in the Town of Jupiter Island, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.

The migrant landing — which included 4 Haitians and two from the Dominican Republic —prompted a response from federal, state and local law enforcement.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Samuel Briggs II said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the investigation is ongoing.

The Town of Jupiter Island officials sent a public notice officials stating:

"Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and surrounding agencies are currently working a beach landing in the area of Coral Cove Park. Several individuals have been detained at this time. Expect to see increased law enforcement helicopters, marine and patrol activity in the southern end of Jupiter Island."

Haiti's government turmoil could bring more migrants to South Florida

Over the weekend, roughly 30 migrants landed on our shores.

These landings come as the Caribbean country is in major turmoil as gangs are trying to overthrow the government.

On Friday, a boat carrying 24 migrants from Haiti was stopped on the water in near Sebastian’s Inlet in Indian River County.

On Saturday, a boat landed on shore in Tequesta carrying migrants – including children — from Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Six of the 8 more migrants were taken into custody, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

“I’m confident there are boats coming through all the time that we don’t catch,” said Sheriff Eric Flowers with Indian River County.

Haiti's government declared a state of emergency on Sunday evening and a curfew amid surging gang violence and two prison breaks over the weekend.

In a statement, the acting prime minister of Haiti reported armed gangs are responsible for kidnappings and killings in the island’s capital.

Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers told CBS12 News he wouldn’t be surprised if Florida’s coast has an increase in migrants in the weeks to follow.

“The reality is the people that are leaving out of there are in such dire straits that they are so happy to get out of their country,” said Sheriff Flowers. “People leave Haiti on homemade rafts trying to make it here because the chances of surviving on a homemade raft are better than what they have to live with in their home country.”

Sheriff flowers said migrants who are caught and taken into custody are processed by federal agencies and often are returned to their home country.

He says keeping an eye on our shorelines and in our cities takes a community effort, so if you see something say something.
