45m Santierul Naval Galatz explorer yacht Prometej sold

The converted 44.5-metre Santierul Naval Galatz explorer yacht Prometej has been sold with David Legrand at Fraser representing the seller and   Ocean Independence representing the buyer.

Built by Galat shipyard in 1956, she was fully rebuilt in 2005 and refitted in 2022. The yacht was originally built for the Russian naval fleet by Romanian-based yard Santierul Naval Galati where she started life as a powerful passage-making ice-breaking tug. In 2002, she was bought by an owner who started a thorough conversion to turn her into a go-anywhere expedition superyacht, completed in 2005.

Aside from maintaining a few key cosmetic elements, as well as some structural elements such as the capstan and fore winch, the owner remodelled almost every part of the vessel, including an overhaul of all electrics, repowering and all-new interiors. Today, following an extensive refit in 2022, Prometej is an elegant rebuilt tug with strong explorer capabilities.

A minimalist coffee and cream interior accommodates 14 guests across seven cabins, including a full private owner's deck on the upper deck with an office, library and private lounge area. On the main deck, guests can enjoy the VIP cabin and two double cabins, while on the lower deck, there are two twin cabins and a double cabin, all with en suite bathroom facilities. There is further space for a crew of nine across four cabins.

A large saloon has comfortable seating, an entertainment centre and formal dining. Up on the sun deck is a large sunbathing area and dining table under a permanent sun awning.

Additional standout features include the fact that she is now RINA-classed and has a Hammam and massage room to provide ultimate relaxation. 

The 469GT yacht has been re-powered with a strong pair of 940hp heavy-duty Mitsubishi engines that give her a range of 6,000 nautical miles and a cruising speed of 12 knots. 

Prometej is complete with two tenders and an inflatable kayak.

Prometej is undergoing an extensive refit to be completed March 2023.  She was built in steel by Romanian yard Galatzi Cant Santiebul and delivered in 1957 as an ocean-going tug with an ice strengthened hull. She had a thorough conversion in 2005 to turn her into a go-anywhere expedition superyacht. the conversion involved: a complete replacement of the superstructure and modification to the external sides of the hull., New main engines and generators and new piping & wiring etc.

She was sold in 2021 and her new owner laid out an ambitious plan to renew and refurbish this superyacht and successfully launch her onto the charter market. Her vast deck space and gracious lines are reminiscent of a luxury cruise ship of a bygone era.  She has a flexible 7 cabin layout and offers a gym and jacuzzi.
