Children under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times, on-board or in-water.

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions , are taking prescription medication or you are suffering from any injury or illness , then it is important that tour provider is made aware in- advance. If they deem it too dangerous or unsafe, they reserve the right to prohibit you entering the water or joining the tour and refunds will be issued. Please state within the “Special Requirements” on the following page.

You will receive a confirmation email upon purchasing this tour which will provide you with all of the relevant information, e.g. CONTACT NUMBERS,  ADDRESS ETC.

what to bring?

Water Bottle, Sunscreen (Reef safe, please), warm clothing/ windproof jacket, and polarised sunglasses are recommended for best viewing through the surface of the water.

Medication: (If you require to take medication throughout the duration of this tour, please remember to bring this with you. If you deem it necessary, please inform a member of staff, on board your vessel, where within your belongings this can be found).

Seasickness Medication – You may experience seasickness out on the open ocean. We suggest that you should speak with your pharmacist in advance of your trip, to seek their advice on seasickness medication. We will not reschedule bookings or issue refunds for those suffering from seasickness.

The vessel?

Welcome aboard “ Temptation ”, a 58ft x 32ft aluminium high-performance sailing catamaran. The vessel is wider than most, providing a spacious and stable platform for lounging while you soak up the beauty of the Marine Park. Under sail, you can relax without the distraction of engine noise, and environmentally this reduces their carbon footprint and is less disturbing for the marine life. 

On board: Maximum 50 passengers.

cancellations?

Cancellations/changes to your booking must be made in writing directly to Salty Swims – Please contact Salty Swims  via email ([email protected]), or Facebook (via the chat icon linked to this page).

Please be aware that refund policies do not cover travel, accommodation or any other associated costs. We recommend you take out travel insurance to cover unforeseeable cancellations.

What if the tour provider cancels? In the event of poor sea conditions, minimum numbers not being reached or for any other reason, the tour operator reserves the right to cancel the tour. If your trip cannot be rescheduled to your satisfaction, you will receive a full refund.

What if you cancel? If you wish to cancel your booking within 24 hours of your departure , you will not receive a refund.

Bookings of 6 or more passengers – If you wish to cancel your booking more than 7 days  from your departure, you’ll receive a full refund. – Cancellations within 24hrs – 7 days of departure date are charged at $20.00 per passenger.

About Adelaide Sailing

Adelaide Sailing have been sailing and teaching to sail to both locals and visitors for more than 10 years. We are based out of Glenelg ,which is only a 20 minute drive from the CBD. We sail out from the Marina Pier at Holdfast Bay , which is a great place to spend sightseeing and dine out. The marina has many restaurants and some shopping as well. It is also only a 10 minute walk from Glenelg, which is where the tram ends its journey from the CBD. Glenelg is a charming seaside resort set on the long sandy white shores of Holdfast Bay. What better way to spend a day in SA than in Glenelg and sailing along the shores.

How to get to the boat:

The boat is based out the Marina Pier at Glenelg.

You can get to us by driving: You can park in the parking garage under the Marina Pier. Drive to the very end of Anzac highway (go through all of the roundabouts until you dead end at the beach). Once you park, walk up to the boats along the row of restaurants.

about the Yacht

The yacht is ‘guava’ a Ron Holland 30 foot yacht designed in Cork Ireland as a fast safe yacht to race across the Irish Sea. She weighs 5 tonne with 2 tonne of lead in her keel making her extremely safe. Ron Holland is a legend in yacht design, and still designs some of the most beautiful luxury yachts around the world. Guava is able to sleep 8 in the cabin for an overnight cruise. She has a kitchen, fridge, toilet and all the amenities to live aboard comfortably for a few days or weeks. She is a commercial vessel, meeting all of SA’s strict rules and regulations to accept passengers on board.

About the Skipper

Mr.colin jones.

Skipper Colin Jones was born in Adelaide, and knows the local waters very well. He has been sailing for over 45 yrs, both locally and internationally. He has a wealth of knowledge about sailing, sail boats, the ocean and the weather that allows us all to sail.

He started racing with dingys at an early age, and has raced catamarans, trailer sailers, club races, offshore keelboats. He has also done long distance trips like Adelaide to Port Lincoln, and Tasmania to Melbourne, East cost to Adelaide.

He has sailed internationally in Clearwater Florida, Bay of Islands in NZ, Mediterranean.

Learn to Sail

The Marine Academy is Adelaide’s only Royal Yachting Association accredited and training centre. Our Australian Sailing courses cater for those who wish to learn more about racing. We have several recommended pathways for people who are just starting or looking to develop their knowledge and skills.

Discover Sailing – Come sailing with our Marine Academy instructors and find out what sailing is all about with a 2.5 hour Discover Sailing Experience. This is a hands on experience offering a chance to get involved and on the water. You will cast off soon after you meet your instructor and be hoisting sails, hauling sheets and having a go at steering the boat.  Another offering is our Womens Essential Course.

RYA Sail Cruising – Are you looking at learning how to sail, holidaying on a charter or buying a yacht? If so, then this is the pathway we suggest. Course lengths vary and can be completed in a variety of ways. Start Yachting is a 2 day course.  Competent Crew is a 3 day course. Day Skipper is a 5 day liveaboard course. We also have several theory courses that will improve your knowledge and provide opportunity to strengthen your practical learning.

AS Keelboat Program – A pathway courses culminating in you racing with us during Club regattas. The program pathway works like this – begin with Start Crewing, then Start Helming, Spinnaker and Start Racing (4 courses). A fantastic way to quickly obtain the skills to be useful on a racing yacht!

Temptation Sailing invites you to swim alongside or watch wild dolphins in their natural habitat. Dolphins are one of the Earth’s most fascinating, curious and interactive species. Our Advanced Eco Certified Wild Dolphin Tours are hosted by our amazing team of Marine Biologists who will educate and assist you throughout the tour. An incredible experience you will never forget!

Temptation is the first vessel in South Australia to be given a licence to swim with these magnificent mammals and has been operating successful dolphin swim and watch tours from Glenelg since 2002.

We offer two different swim experiences during our Wild Dolphin Swim, a Front Swim Experience and a Back Swim Experience. On a typical day, swimmers get the opportunity to try both swim experiences, however some days swimmers may only get to try one. Our goal is to provide all swimmers an interaction with a dolphin underwater and our friendly staff will do their best to ensure the best quality experience possible for you and your group.

Front Swim Experience

Lay down and feel as if you’re a part of the dolphin pod, our Front Swim is an experience you don’t want to miss!

Our custom made Front Swim net is secured between the bows of Temptation, allowing customers to experience wild dolphins swimming within arms length, playing and socialising on the bow of Temptation.

Back Swim Experience

Submerge yourself in the water with our Back Swim Experience, an amazing way to view wild dolphins in their natural habitat.

Our Back Swim Experience allows customers to interact with dolphins from a truly unique perspective. Jump in and hold on to our mermaid lines off the back of the vessel and enjoy amazing interactions our wild dolphins offer.

Please note: We generally operate both swim experiences during our Wild Dolphin Tour and rotate customers between the Front Swim and Back Swim Experiences. We aim to ensure a quality and evenly spread interaction time for all of our swimmers with the Dolphins.

Wild Dolphin Watch

For those who aren’t keen to get wet, you can watch the dolphins play and interact with Temptation whilst on board.

Sit back, relax and watch from the front of Temptation and enjoy our 360 degree viewing deck. Watch the dolphins play on the bow of the boat, swimming only a few feet away from you and your camera!

Listen to our knowledgeable Marine Biologists as they educate and explain the interactions we have with our amazing Indo-Pacific bottlenose and short-beaked common dolphins.

Sustainability

At Temptation, we strive to ensure we are as sustainable as possible. We partnered with Greenfleet in 2021 to offset our Carbon Emissions through their carbon offset program which plants native flora in Australia and New Zealand. We use solar powered electrics, light engines and sail when practical to limit our fuel usage.

We strongly believe that in order to maintain our long-term success rate on our Wild Dolphin Tour (and to look after our dolphins!), we must ensure we have a minimal impact on Adelaide’s wild dolphin population.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely not! We use the same boat for both the swim and the watch which can both be booked together or separately – you will be on the same boat regardless!

This is very common with a number of our passengers, so over the years we have refined our briefing and techniques to accommodate the most nervous of dolphin swimmers.

• Upon boarding Temptation, you will be given a full length 5mm wetsuits, which also act as a full body floatation device
• You are given a briefing from our crew on what to do and what not do when entering and being in the water
• Colour visual charts are used to help show what to do and what not do when entering and being in the water
• Our fully experienced crew will demonstrate how to use your mask and snorkel and can provide assistance when trying masks on
• All swimmers must hold onto a floatation line connected to the stern of Temptation
• If at the end of the briefing and snorkel demonstration you are still not confident in entering the water, you can stay on-board and do the dolphin watch and e will refund you the difference between the watch > swim price to you if you booked directly.

Please note our swims are fully controlled, therefore you are not freely swimming in the open ocean.

Unfortunately our insurance does not allow children under the age of 9 to participate in the Wild Dolphin Swim, however children are more than welcome to watch the dolphins from on board our boat!

At Temptation Sailing we do have an extremely high success rate and it is very rare that we do not get all customers to see a dolphin whilst on board (we have never had a day where the we haven’t seen dolphins from above the water!)

In the case that we do not see any dolphins from above water during the cruise, passengers are welcome to come back out on board free of charge within one year from the date of the tour. This cannot be passed on to friends or family. If you are travelling from interstate or overseas and cannot make it back out on board within the year, we will provide a 50% refund (FOR DIRECT BOOKINGS ONLY).

For swimmers who did not get the opportunity to see dolphins underwater, we will refund the difference between the watch and the swim (FOR DIRECT BOOKINGS ONLY) or swimmers are able to come back on board to try again within one year from the date of the tour.

Yes! However, you will only be able to participate in the  front swim experience . 

We operate two high powered shark shields during our back swim experience which can short-circuit a pacemaker.
