This is an opportunity to purchase a fleet of 6 identically matched Swedish Match 40 yachts. A chance to set up a match race center or add to an existing fleet.

Construction

Hull Construction:

·          The hull is laminated by hand in a female mould.

·          White, high-temperature Reichhold NGA gelcoat is sprayed up in the moulds.

·          The hull is partially laminated in vinylester, partially in DCPD-Ortho polyester. 

·          A sandwich laminate made of 15mm PVC core is used on the topsides above the turn of the bilges.

·          Bi-axial and Triaxial E-Glass is used as reinforcement.

·          The direction of the axial reinforcement is dictated by the major loadpaths of the structure.

·          Hull laminate reinforcements are added at the centreline joint, in the keelbox area, at the rudder bearing and around the mastbase. Hull is topcoated in white in areas where crew is working.

·          The hull internals are hand laminated into the hull.

·          All hull internals are made of PVC foam cored multiaxial glassfiber reinforced polyester.

·          One pair of primary longitudinal stringers makes up a backbone from the stern to the forward ring frame.

·          Two secondary stringers stiffen the hull panels at the turn of the bilge.

·          Six ringframes and bulkheads are sparsely spaced through the hull.

·          A longitudinal mastbase girder extends from the front of the keelbox under the mast bulkhead to a transverse stiffener

Finish of Hull Centreline Joint & Keel:

·          Polished hull joint above the waterline.

·          Sanded hull joint below the waterline.

·          The keel is primed with epoxy paint.

Deck Construction:

·          The deck is laminated by hand in a female mould with integrated antislip surfaces.

·          The deck is laminated in DCPD-Ortho polyester.

·          A sandwich laminate made of 15mm PVC core is used in all horizontal surfaces.

·          Biaxial and Triaxial E-Glass is used as reinforcement.

·          Chopped Strand Mat is used in around recesses for hatches.

·          All fittings are fixed in either single laminates or a sandwich with a high-density PVC core.

·          The deck is glued to the hull using polyester putty, and subsequently laminated on the inside along the sheerline.

·          The deck includes grooves and platforms for hatches and lids.

·          The deck has a recess for two self-bailers.

·          The steering pedestal is integrated with the deck laminate.

·          The deck internals are hand laminated into the hull.

·          All deck internals are made of PVC foam cored multiaxial glassfibre reinforced polyester.

·          One pair of primary longitudinal stringers makes up a backbone from stern to the first webframe.

·          Local single laminates are used where fittings are attached.

·          The main sheeting point is attached on top of a bulkhead.

·          Structural members are positioned in close proximity to the winches.

Keel & Rudder:

·          The keel box is hand laminated with glassfibre reinforced polyester. 

·          The assembly is then hand laminated into the hull and deck.

·          The bottom edge of the keelbox is wedge-shaped.

·          Two transverse bulkheads are hand laminated either side of the keelbox extending to the primary stringers.

·          Composite keel with a cast iron keel fin attached by bolts to a lead bulb.

·          The fin and bulb is painted with a base primer.

·          The assembly is then epoxy filled and faired.

·          The keel fin-bulb joint is joined with filler and molten lead.

·          The keel fin is housed in the keel box, which is integrated with the deck.

·          In the raised position the hull rests close to the bulb in the cradle, hence the whole yacht and cradle fits into a 40´ container. In the lowered position, a wedge shape in the keel ensures zero play.

·          In the event of running aground the energy is absorbed by a polyurethane impact moulding aft in the keel box.

·          Hand laminated rudder blade using Biaxial and Unidirectional E-Glass reinforcement in a polyester resin.

·          Double tapered aluminium rudderstock with three wings welded to the stock.

·          The wings of the stock are laminated to one half of the rudder before assembly.

·          The blade halves are laminated and glued together.

·          Keels modified to be easily fixed down.

Propulsion & Steering :

·          Lewmar draglink steering system.

·          The steering wheel is attached to the bevel head gear, which in turn rotate a torque tube attached to a reduction gearbox. The reduction gearbox actuates the draglink which connect to a cast aluminium tiller arm.

·          The steering pedestal is integrated into the deck moulding.

·          The aluminium alloy rudder stock is mounted in self-adjusting needle bearings in the hull and a needle bearing in the deck. 

·          5-spoke wheel with cover.

Bilge Pumps:

·          The yacht has double manual membrane 1 ½” (38mm) bilge pumps fitted in the sides of the cockpit.

·          The strainers have integral non-return valves and are fitted in the bilges close to the keelbox.

A new yacht with similar lines and performance to the America’s Cup class yachts has been designed for the Swedish Match Tour. The Swedish Match 40 is a new custom built match racing yacht designed by Swedish sailing legend Pelle Petterson.

Petterson commented: “I was very excited about the prospect of designing a boat that will be sailed by the world’s top match racing teams at events around the world. The Swedish Match 40 is a unique design based on the most recent America’s Cup class yachts. It provide sailors and teams with a perfect tool to develop their match racing skills on the road to the next America’s Cup in 2007.”

After relying on event-supplied yachts for the first four years of the Swedish Match Tour, a desire arose to design and build an exclusive fleet of boats for the Swedish Match Tour that could provide a consist quality of yacht from event-to-event. The boat also needed be of a “grand-prix” nature, utilizing the latest technology and designed in way that would continue the Swedish Match Tour tradition of holding the racing on short courses in shore-side venues, allowing spectators to see, first-hand, sailing at the highest level. MOONRISE40' Cape Dory Robinhood 40' Aft Cockpit 1990

"MOONRISE" is an updated rendition of the proven Chuck Paine-designed Intrepid 40' originally introduced in 1982. It's a low-profile, aft cockpit development of that center-cockpit cruiser, but it's also a great boat born of new promise in its own right. Originally built by Cape Dory Yachts in Massachusetts and custom outfitted by Robinhood Marine in Maine. Her current owners have lovingly cared for and outfitted her throughout the years to cruise in comfort and safety. Sailors interested in a no-nonsense long-distance cruising boat of superb design and construction will find much to admire in the Robinhood 40'.

History of S/V  Moonrise : Cape Dory, Chuck Paine, & Robinhood:

Here is a brief owners summary of the interesting history behind  Moonrise : 

    I should say that right after we purchased Moonrise in 2005, I had an opportunity to visit Robinhood Marine, where Dave Perry spent a good deal of time with me, giving me a detailed tour of the yard, as well as showing me the shed where our boat was built. 

   Originally named  Felucca ,  Moonrise  resulted from the convergence of two venerable boat builders and a well-known designer. The builders were Cape Dory (in East Taunton, MA) and Robinhood Marine (in Robinhood, ME). The designer was Chuck Paine, who has drafted many well-regarded boats, including Bowman Yachts and the Morris 40' of the same look and vintage as Moonrise. 

    The majority of Cape Dory's sea-kindly boats emerged from the drawing board of Carl Alberg and bear all the hallmarks of his designs, including full keel, attached rudder, and cut-away forefoot. When Cape Dory created the Intrepid 40', however, they were looking for a different design- and for that, they turned to Chuck Paine. As a result,  Moonrise  has a distinct pedigree, boasting a skeg-hung rudder, a long fin with an original Chuck Paine-designed keel (a cross between a wing and a bulb), a flattened bulb that adds significant stability and stiffness while minimizing draft and drag. 

   Intrepid 40's are still sailing the seas, but  Moonrise  resulted from yet another evolution in yacht design when the Cape Dory Intrepid 40' became the Robinhood 40'.( Andy Vavolotis, the owner of Cape Dory, acquired Robinhood Marine in 1981 and Cape Dory moved there in 1989). Here's where Chuck Paine's original hull design converged with the skill of Maine boat builders to create a semi-custom version, with significant modifications. 

  While the Intrepid 40' was a center cockpit sloop, the Robinhood 40' was designed with an aft cockpit. Working with Cape Dory's in-house designers and her original owner Dick Wolfe, who commissioned her construction, Chuck Paine raised the mast (adding more power) and moved the jib stay forward (reducing weather helm). The result was a more robust rig, an important enhancement for Wolfe, who planned to race the boat. Wolfe commissioned an in-depth analysis of sail performance by a well-known Annapolis firm, Design Systems & Services Inc, who projected speeds at varying wind velocities and points of sail, as well as the sloops righting moment. Testimonies from those who sailed her early on, including under spinnaker, conveyed the excitement of her lively performance. She points well and flies on a reach. At the same time, with the destroyer wheel and skeg-hung rudder, my wife and I have found the helm a joy to handle, even in a big blow. 

   In addition to her design as a spirited performance cruiser, Moonrise also benefited from the craftsmanship of the Maine boatbuilders who fashioned her. While the hull was laid up at the Cape Dory yard in East Taunton, MA, final construction took place at Robinhood, with fine teak joinery and top-flight installation of all plumbing and electrical systems, including bonded bronze sea-cocks, screened hatches and portlights, and many other details too numerous to list here. Apparently, because Wolfe, the original owner, was a very tall man, the cabin offers extra headroom. The result of Chuck Paine's design and Robinhood's craftsmanship is an open and airy cabin, something that sold us on the boat since we planned to live aboard and cruise extensively. I don't think it's hyperbole to place the Robinhood 40' in a class with Morris and Hinckley yachts, though much less expensive.

Hull is molded using IsoNpg gel coat, vinylester resins, high strength non-woven bi-axial fiberglass fabrics, and Airex core. Internal bulkheads are fiberglass bonded to the hull. "Paine" keel is full design- poured lead, with a flared foot bolted to the keel sump with (14) 3/4 inch stainless steel bolts. Skeg-hung rudder is supported by a solid bronze shoe. The prop is mounted in a skeg aperture. Raised bulwarks on deck with 28" high stanchions. Molded rub rail with a stainless striker. Varnished teak pulpit with stainless steel strut. Stainless steel bow and stern pulpits with double-through lifelines.

Britain's Vodafone confirms sale of Italian arm to Swisscom for $8.7 billion

LONDON – British cellphone company Vodafone confirmed Friday that it is selling its Italian business to Switzerland’s Swisscom for 8 billion euros ($8.7 billion) and will hand back half of the proceeds to its shareholders through the buyback of company shares.

Vodafone said the move, with talks first announced Feb. 28 , represented an “attractive valuation” and marked the final step of its strategy to sell off parts of its European portfolio.

Swisscom, a telecoms operator, will pay in cash that it will finance through new debt. It is aiming to merge its acquisition with Fastweb, the company's subsidiary in Italy. It said the deal will help it unlock 600 million euros in savings and will enable the combined entity to sustain investments and offer improved services.

“The industrial logic of this merger is very strong,” Swisscom CEO Christoph Aeschlimann said. "Fastweb and Vodafone Italia are an ideal fit to create high added value for all stakeholders."

As part of the deal, which is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2025, the two firms agreed that Vodafone will continue to provide “certain services” to Swisscom over the next five years. Swisscom will pay annual initial charges of 350 million euros, which is expected to decrease over time.

Vodafone added that the two companies also are “exploring a closer commercial relationship to enable collaboration across a broad range of areas, beyond Italy."

Vodafone Chief Executive Margherita Della Valle said the sale “creates significant value for Vodafone and ensures the business maintains its leading position in Italy.”

Vodafone has been looking to free up cash and improve its financial performance by selling off parts of the business, including its Spanish arm, having previously struck deals to sell its divisions in Hungary and Ghana.

The markets appeared to welcome the deal, with Vodafone's shares closing 5.7% higher in London and Swisscom's ending 4.9% up in Zurich.

“Vodafone’s Italian business has been struggling, so shedding this weight should help the group refocus,” said Sophie Lund-Yates, lead equity analyst at stockbrokers Hargreaves Lansdown. “Attention will now turn to how effectively Vodafone uses its resources to fix wider challenges, including high debts, costs and some increasing competition. ”

Its refreshed strategy also has seen it seek to merge its U.K. business with Three U.K. to create Britain’s biggest mobile phone network worth around 15 billion pounds ($19 billion). The proposed tie-up will face regulatory scrutiny over competition concerns.
