Broker Remarks

The Scampi 30 is one of the classic Half tonner designs. Over 750 were built in total and they have won a great reputation as race winners and for being excellently well built,  easily sailed, and well behaved fast cruisers. The Scampi 30 is roomy, has a deep cockpit and is stiff with good stability Minim 3 has a top race pedigree having great results at club racing and in The Round the Island Race. She has been very well looked after over 30 years of ownership by her current owner.  This Scampi 30 is very neat both her exterior and interior are very clean and. She has been re-engined and has had all her lines led aft.  She has a full suite of sails in overall good condition. She is a classic cruiser-racer that could easily bring home some silverware for her new owner or would make a safe comfortable cruiser for someone who really likes to sail. 

Accommodation

The Alvin Scampi can sleep up to 7, forward is a twin berth cabin. The saloon has two main berth settees with two pipe cots above. There is a quarter berth on the aft port side. She has a sea toilet forward as well as a full-sized hanging locker. The galley has an oven, grill with two burners, cold box and dry storage. Aft port side is a large quarter berth.

Extra Details

Replacment of the original Yanmar 12 HP single cylinder diesel engine, and the folding propeller, with a Lombardini 20 HP twin cylinder unit and self feathering propeller. This was chosen as it was of similar weight and size to the Yanmar but gave greater reliability and power to cope estuary tides. This was fitted to the Bruntons self feathering propeller to give greater speed and maneuverability, forward and astern, without the drag of a fixed blade propeller.

Sloop rigged Selden Aluminium spars (1979) with Stainless Steel standing rigging (2006)

Seldon aluminum anodized mast, boom and spinnaker pole. Selden, Furlex roller reefing to foresail. (The roller reefing and mast were serviced by selden in 2006, mast sheaves were replaced and rigging checked). Mainsail- masthead slab reefing,fully battened: checked and laundered by Jeckells 2006. Trysail, storm jib, Spinnaker, Furling foresail, Furling 1 and 2 Genoas, Foresail cover. Boom cover (New in 2006)

Construction

The SCAMPI was Peter Norlins first yacht design. He achieved an amazing fete with this very successful sailing yachts performance and great popularity and success on the race course too. The prototype, (by convention, referred to as the MKI,) trounced the competition at the half ton cup of 1969 (sailed under the RORC handicap rule). After going into production, this second. slightly modified version came back the following year to win first and second in this same event though, this time, under the newly adopted IOR rule. It is thought that at least 50 of this version (MkII) were built. A Mark III version, which followed, was built in far greater numbers.This example being a mark 4 In my opinion, this is a lovely example of this classic cruiser/racer and has been much loved and maintained to a high standard.

Accommodation

There is a forward V berth double with engine mounted below. Forward heads with sliding vanity unit foot pumped cold water supply to port. Large oilskin locker to starboard. Main saloon, port side berth converts to a double, starboard side single berth. central saloon table. Port side navigation station and chart table with quarter berth to stern. Galley to starboard. 12V cabin lighting. Saloon air vents. Cabin heating in both forepeak and saloon. Recent berth upholstery covers and matching curtains throughout.

The galley has a Gas, gimballed 2 burner and oven cooker, S/S sink with both fresh and salt water supply via foot pumps. Cool box, sliding lockers and cupboard. Isolating valve in galley plus gas locker in starboard cockpit locker. -New Jabsco toilet 2006

S/S pulpit, 2 x Genoa tracks leading to Lewmar 40 2-speed primary winches. All lines lead aft to 2 x Lewmar single speed no 7 halyard winches. Large deep cockpit with starboard side locker. S/S pushpit with integrated boarding ladder. Stanchions and lifelines. Fore and aft plus centre cleats. Multi position, removable cockpit table. Adjustable mainsheet track. Full ground tackle. Spray hood, (New in 2006). Cockpit tent (New in 2006). Fenders. Manual bilge pump.

Scampi 30-2

Scampi 30-2 is a 29 ′ 9 ″ / 9.1 m monohull sailboat designed by Peter Norlin and built by Albin Marine between 1970 and 1971.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
