In the heart of the glamorous French Riviera, the 2024 Venice Boat Show promises an extraordinary celebration of luxury, elegance, and maritime innovation. Spanning from September 10 to 15, this annual spectacle unfolds in the exquisite Bay of Cannes, captivating attendees with a dazzling display of leisure boating’s finest.

As the inaugural boat show of the sailing season and Europe’s largest in-water event, the Yachting Festival has been a beacon of nautical excellence since its inception in 1977. The sun-kissed shores of Cannes serve as the idyllic backdrop for this maritime extravaganza, creating an atmosphere of opulence and sophistication that is second to none.

The Yachting Festival is not merely a gathering; it’s a showcase of cutting-edge design, technological prowess, and a preview of the latest offerings from the leisure boating industry. With nearly 700 boats gracing the shores, ranging from 5 to 50 meters, the festival caters to diverse tastes, presenting an eclectic mix of sailing and motor vessels, monohulls and multihulls, as well as rigid and semi-rigid hulls.

Cannes Yachting Festival 2024-PORT CANTO

The Vieux Port and Port Canto, two iconic ports of Cannes, play host to this remarkable event. The Vieux Port, nestled at the foot of the Suquet, occupies a special place among the harbors of the French Riviera. Since 2019, it has been exclusively dedicated to the motorboat industry, transforming into a hub where construction sites, equipment manufacturers, and service companies unveil their latest innovations.

On the eastern front of the Croisette lies Port Canto, a picturesque setting that houses the Sailing Area, the Yacht Brokerage sector, and a haven for water toys enthusiasts. A novel addition, “The Small Boat Area,” has been introduced, specifically designed for motor units ranging from 8 to 11 meters. Positioned in the Vieux Port on the Pantiero, adjacent to the RIBs, this new marina boasts a linear exhibition space, offering a delightful visual feast.

Cannes Yachting Festival 2024-VIEUX PORT

For those navigating the show, the pontoons strategically placed at the end of the quays ensure an unhindered exploration, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the allure of each vessel. As attendees traverse this maritime utopia, they will encounter the latest and most captivating watercraft, from sleek motorboats to majestic sailing vessels.

Beyond the captivating vessels, the Cannes Yachting Festival offers an unparalleled opportunity for sea trials. Imagine the thrill of taking the helm of these exceptional units, feeling the wind in your hair and the embrace of the open sea. It’s not just a boat show; it’s an immersive experience that allows enthusiasts to connect with the soul of each vessel.

TRADE SHOW AT THE HEART OF THE FRENCH RIVIERA

As the sun sets over the Bay of Cannes, casting a golden glow on the luxurious boats, the festival transforms into a celebration of maritime passion. Whether you’re a seasoned yachtsman, an industry professional, or an enthusiast dreaming of the open waters, the 2024 Venice Boat Show beckons you to witness the epitome of elegance, innovation, and the timeless allure of the sea. At eight months to the opening of the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024, its organisation is becoming clearer with several new features that make it possible to accommodate the major modernisation and transformation works being undertaken this year and until 2026 in the Vieux Port.

2024 will see the launch of a new area entirely dedicated to new motor boats from 8 metres long. It is a major first for the Cannes Yachting Festival to present boats of this size in water!

This marina will cover more than 1,700 m² and provide more than 300 m of linear quay. Visitors will find the boats and brands usually exhibited on Quai Max Laubeuf, an area that is unavailable due to the works. 170 boats (150 in water and twenty on land), with rigid or semi-rigid hulls, are expected in this brand-new space, which will benefit from a strong identity and adapted signage. In addition to the boats, a selection of outboard engines suitable for these boat sizes will also be present.

This marina will be located between the Sailing and Brokerage & Toys areas that have been acommodated in Port Canto for several years. An important new feature is that this year, for the first time, visitors will now be able to take a full tour of Port Canto (i.e. a loop of +/- 2.5 km) to discover almost 340 boats (120 new sail boats over 10 metres long, 170 power boats from 8 metres long and around 50 previously owned large yachts from 24 metres long) and many equipment manufacturers and service companies. Several traversantes (pontoons with a motorised central part) will allow visitors to go from one quay to another and small motor boats to go out for sea trials.

Many new services will also be implemented with an additional restaurant of more than 450 m² with capacity for 130 place settings, an entrance reserved for exhibitors and a redesigned VIP Club.

“2024 represents a year full of challenges for the Cannes Yachting Festival. As we explained to our exhibitors last September, the works in the Vieux Port have an impact on our show and are a challenge we are taking on to continue offering a high-quality product. The situation is gradually becoming clearer and, thanks to working closely with everyone playing a role in Cannes, we are making progress on setting up this edition. We are fortunate to be in both ports of Cannes and to be able to balance out our exhibition areas at each of our sites knowing that it is very easy and fast to go from one port to another thanks to the free sea shuttles. The new marina located in Port Canto, mainly dedicated to 8- to12 metre motor boats, will give incredible visibility to this boat segment, which will enjoy one of the biggest exhibition concentrations in water. We believe this new space will attract a large number of our visitors and give some the opportunity to come and discover Port Canto for the first time. This new configuration for the show also allows us to create an even clearer and more simplified visitor circuit with almost one quay, or one large area, associated with a type of boat”, explains Sylvie Ernoult, director of the Cannes Yachting Festival.

In the heart of the city, the Vieux Port remains the port for new 10- to 50 metre motor boats and all the equipment manufacturers and service companies related to this industry. Note that for 2024, the progress of the works will block off the areas on land, but allows the large yachts to remain in water in their usual spaces on the Jetée sud. The Super Yachts Extension will remain the same.

“Next September, Port Canto will almost be the same as the Vieux Port in terms of the number of boats displayed: almost 350 boats will be on display on each side of the Croisette, maintaining the number of boats we plan to bring together at the show at 700. I would like to reassure our exhibitors as well as our visitors about the quality of the 2024 show and the offer available. Our teams are working hard to put on a stunning 47th edition!”, Sylvie Ernoult finishes.

The management of the Cannes Yachting Festival took advantage of the 46th edition of the Mediterranean boat show to present exhibitors with the layout of the show in 2024. A major renovation and modernization plan for the Vieux Port, initiated by the city and the port's new operator, will require RX France to adapt certain areas on land and afloat in the Vieux Port, and to develop new ones in Port Canto.

Chloé Torterat

Planned work on the Vieux Port will have an impact on the show's organization

In early 2024, major renovation and modernization work will begin on the Vieux Port de Cannes. These works, initiated by the consortium Marina Vieux Port de Cannes - MPVC - , will be completed in 2026. The work will affect the southern part of the Albert Edouard jetty, located on the north-western side of the harbor entrance, the careening area and the Max Laubeuf parking lot, located opposite and to the south-west of the harbor entrance.

Le Quai Max Laubeuf

Find a compromise to maintain the same level of services

Since the first quarter of 2024, RX France management, Sylvie Ernoult, Show Director, and the show's technical teams have been working with the City of Cannes and MPVC to find a new layout for the construction period.

Sylvie Ernoult, show manager, explains the decisions made: "The configuration of the 2024 show will therefore see the transfer of the reception areas from the Old Port , which have become unavailable, to the Port Canto, and will enable us to retain all the exhibitors and ships present this year. We're confident about the arrangements we've just explained to all our exhibitors. We understand that some may have questions, and we're here to work with them and reassure them. We will take their comments into account and continue to fine-tune the show's layout for next year. To sum up, the 2024 show will extend even further into Port Canto, which will host two segments from the Old Port: the first dedicated to mega yachts , with 1500m² of stand space on land and 500m² of space in front of the boats to welcome shipyards and engine manufacturers, and, afloat, some fifteen units from 30 to 50m; the second will bring together around a hundred units from 8 meters upwards on over 380 linear meters, with 1300m² of stand space on land and 400m² of space in front of the boats."

Port Canto pendant l'édition 2023

Port Canto gets new spaces

Two new areas will be created at Port Canto, which is currently mainly dedicated to the world of sailing. The Mega Yacht Area will welcome large yachts up to 55 m in length, and the Small Boats Area, smaller yachts from 8 m upwards. A new walkway will create a loop around Port Canto, making it easier for visitors to move from one quay to the other. Port Canto will also retain the Espace Voile and the Yacht Brokerage area.

L'Espace Voile sera à retrouver sur Port Canto comme habituellement

Visit Mega Yacht Area will be located at the end of the Jetée du Phare, on the west side of the harbor entrance. It will feature a 1,500 m2 structure on land, in line with the one previously present in the Vieux Port, and a space afloat to accommodate some fifteen 30 to 55 m boats.

The news Small Boats Area will be made up of 1,700 m2 of developable space on land and over 380 m of linear quay space for more than 90 small craft between 8 and 11/12 m in length. This will be the first time that such a large number of small boats have been brought together on the same quay. This new space is in line with the new marina dedicated to small craft, to be created in 2023 on the Vieux Port.

La Small Boats Area sur le Vieux Port en 2023

An Old Port that will evolve over the three years of work

In the Vieux Port, during the three years of construction work, the show facilities will evolve according to the space available. In 2024, the Quai Max Laubeuf will continue to accommodate, afloat, powerboats from 10 to 20 m and some twenty power catamarans. The Jetty will welcome large yachts from 22 m without land space, and the Super Yachts Extension will remain with its large units. Visitors will be able to access this area via a new passageway along the jetty's construction zone, and a slightly relocated walkway adapted to the new configuration. The other areas of the Old Port will remain available and usable under conditions similar to those of previous years. Shuttle services will continue to operate between the two ports.

Find a compromise to maintain the same level of services

Since the first quarter of 2024, RX France management, Sylvie Ernoult, Show Director, and the show's technical teams have been working with the City of Cannes and MPVC to find a new layout for the construction period.

Sylvie Ernoult, show manager, explains the decisions made: "The configuration of the 2024 show will therefore see the transfer of the reception areas from the Old Port, which have become unavailable, to the Port Canto, and will enable us to retain all the exhibitors and ships present this year. We're confident about the arrangements we've just explained to all our exhibitors. We understand that some may have questions, and we're here to work with them and reassure them. We will take their comments into account and continue to fine-tune the show's layout for next year. To sum up, the 2024 show will extend even further into Port Canto, which will host two segments from the Old Port: the first dedicated to mega yachts, with 1500m² of stand space on land and 500m² of space in front of the boats to welcome shipyards and engine manufacturers, and, afloat, some fifteen units from 30 to 50m; the second will bring together around a hundred units from 8 meters upwards on over 380 linear meters, with 1300m² of stand space on land and 400m² of space in front of the boats."

Cannes Yachting Festival Announces New Layout and Developments for 2024

As the 46 th edition of the cannes yachting festival ended on sunday, attendees can expect a change in the layout of future events..

Management of the Cannes Yachting Festival show, RX France, has presented its layout project for September 2024. The project looks to renovate and modernize Vieux Port, beginning in 2024 and finishing at the end of 2026.

The development project will impact the southern part of the Albert Edouard on the north/west side of the port entrance, the careening area, and the Max Laubeuf parking lot. Although the development will alter the usual layout of the festival, RX France’s management and the show’s staff are working with the City of Cannes to create a temporary, but optimal, layout.

“It is clear that the work to modernise the Vieux Port means that we will have to modify some of our installations and how we accommodate our exhibitors and visitors during the Cannes Yachting Festival,” said Filippo Rean, managing director of RX France.” Working constructively with the city and MVPC teams, our teams are already able to anticipate the main impacts on the different areas we occupy and find alternatives in the best possible conditions for the 2024 edition and those that follow.”

Two new areas will be added to Port Canto, one for large boats up to 55 meters and the other for small boats from eight meters. A crossing will be added to the two areas that connects them to the Sailing Area and the Yacht Brokerage & Toys area, allowing guests to easily access all the docks.

“As always, our priority is that our exhibitors and visitors are satisfied. This also means maintaining the show’s size and diversity,” said Sylvie Ernoult, director of the Cannes Yachting Festival. “We have been working hard for several months now to arrange the best installation possible for 2024, taking into account the various technical and safety constraints.”

Take a sneak peek at the biggest and most expensive boats at 2024's Palm Beach yacht show

  • The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
  • Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.
  • These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocked potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to if in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

Price: From $497,000 a week (charter)

Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool

Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.

She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.

For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.

Victorious: 85 meters

Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter

Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom

Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.

For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam, or Turkish bath — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.

She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.

Casino Royale: 72 meters

Special Features: Infinity pool, helipad, private jacuzzi

Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).

Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

However, the boat's price isn't listed, and while she's not necessarily officially for sale, that might change depending on who's prepared to buy, Mr. Bond.

Talisman C: 70.6 meters

Price: $60 million (or from $567,000 a week to charter)

Special features: Massage and beauty room, private library

Likely the largest yacht for sale (not just charter) at the show, the Talisman C is a 2011 six-bedroom boat. The owner's cabin comes with an en suite bathroom, dressing room, private library, and crystal chandeliers.

Amenities include a gym, a beauty room, oversized jacuzzi, and a fully equipped bar. Her crew of 19 includes a trained masseuse, and the toy room comes equipped with a wakeboard, eFoil , and WaveRunners.

Joy: 70 meters

Price: From $650,000 a week

Special features: Disco club, basketball court, onboard fitness instructor

Superyacht Joy testifies to the fact that owners want as many on-board experiences as they can get.

There's an expansive suite of fitness features, including a basketball court (don't shoot that hoop too hard!), a personal trainer on staff, boxing equipment, and a handful of machines. For post-workout winddowns, there's a spa with a steam room and onboard masseuse. And for entertainment, there's both an outdoor and indoor cinema, and a disco club.

Triumph: 65.4 meters

Price: From $707,600 a week in the summer and $650,000 a week in the winter

Special features: Sauna, helipad, banana boat

This 2021 superyacht is named after Triumph motorcycles — a reported favorite of her rumored owner, British businessman Chris Dawson — and even has one on display as an art piece in the upper deck's lounge. The primary suite is 1,400 square feet and has its own study , and there's a sauna, an indoor-outdoor gym, a helipad, and a massage room spread among her six decks.

She boasts an "armada of water toys," including two kinds of Jet Skis, electric water bikes, and a banana boat.

Seanna: 64.5 meters

Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter)

Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool

The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.

Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.

There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.

Come Together: 60 meters

Price: $65,000,000

Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.

RELATED: Cannes Palme d’Or Winners: Photos From Every One Of The Festival’s Top Films Through The Years

Will this leave space for Cannes first-timers, both established and emerging? Below are our updates.

Hotly tipped French movies referenced in part one of our preview included Audrey Diwan’s reimagining of  Emmanuelle , which has yet to decide between Cannes or Venice; François Ozon’s 24th feature When Fall Is Coming ; Leos Carax’s medium-length work It’s Not Me ; Nathalie Merlant’s The Balconettes; Arnaud Desplechin’s Filmlovers! ; and Palme d’Or winner Jacques Audiard’s intriguing crime-musical Emilia Perez , starring Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez.

A younger generation of French hopefuls include Delphine and Muriel Coulin with Vincent Lindon-starring father-and-son drama The Quiet Son , Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma with coming-of-age tale And Their Children After Them, Antoine Chevrollier with Block Pass, and Céline Sallette with Niki . France-based Italian director Giovanni Aloi’s crime thriller  Hunting Ground is also submitted.

Fingers are also crossed for Mauritius-set, French colonial-era slavery drama No Chains, No Master s, the directorial feature debut of screenwriter Simon Moutaïrou, whose writing credits include hit thriller Black Box and the political drama Goliath .

A posthumous Cannes selection could also be on the cards with the submission of late director Sophie Fillières’ This Life of Mine , starring Agnès Jaoui as a woman whose sense of self starts to unravel as she turns 55. Filllières died shortly after completing the shoot and her children have dedicated themselves to finishing post-production.

Beating Hearts

Gilles Lellouche’s modern Romeo and Juliet tale  Beating Hearts ( L’Amour Ouf ), starring Adèle Exarchopoulos and Three Musketeers heartthrob François Civil, was also being pushed as a potential Cannes title at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris in January, but it’s not certain post-production will be completed in time.

Another big-budget French production tipped for a potential splash is Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière’s The Count Of Monte Cristo starring Pierre Niney, which is due to hit French cinemas on June 28.

Other movies produced out of France that are ready and submitted include exiled Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov’s Joseph Mengele thriller Disappearance , starring German actor August Diehl as the notorious Nazi doctor, and South African filmmaker Pia Marais’ Amazon Forest-set contemporary missionary and illegal logging drama Transamazonia .

Out of Italy, there is still a question mark over whether Paolo Sorrentino will return with Parthenope , having previously debuted six films in Competition including Oscar winner The Great Beauty .

Other potential Italian returnees include directorial duo Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza with Mafia tale Lettere A Catello , starring Toni Servillo and Elio Germano. Their films Salvo and Sicilian Ghost Story played in Cannes Critics’ Week.

Further Italian titles confirmed as in the running include Michele Placido’s Eternal Visionary starring Fabrizio Bentivoglio as Italian playwright Luigi Pirandello on a soul-searching train journey to Stockholm.

The intriguing English-language Italian-produced Opera! a contemporary re-telling of Orpheus and Eurydice, has also been submitted. Directed by famed opera world duo Davide Livermore and Paolo Gep Cucco, cast includes Vincent Cassel, Fanny Ardant, Caterina Murino and Roissy de Palma.

Other high-end Italian auteur fare currently in post-production includes Gabriele Salvatores’ immigration drama Napoli – New York , developing a treatment written by Federico Fellini in the 1940s and featuring Pierfrancesco Favino in the cast, but we haven’t heard back yet whether this is eyeing Cannes.

In an update since part one, we’ve heard that Johnny Depp’s Italian painter biopic  Modi   is firmly in post and will not be ready for Cannes.

However, we’ve had it confirmed that Portuguese Cannes habitué Miguel Gomes’ ambitious new multilingual work Grand Tour is completed and angling for a Cannes splash. The British Empire drama stars Crista Alfaiate as a jilted bride who pursues her runaway civil servant fiancé (Gonçalo Waddington) across Asia.

cannes yacht show 2024 dates

As per part one, UK Cannes aspirants include Andrea Arnold’s Bird and Athina Rachel Tsangari ’s Harvest with Caleb Landry Jones; for the latter we have since heard that Sixteen Films is working hard to have finished for a potential Cannes berth. Few British companies have stronger ties to Cannes than Ken Loach and Rebecca O’Brien’s outfit.

A second Sixteen Films production, Scotland-based Portuguese filmmaker Laura Carreira’s debut feature  On Falling , about a migrant warehouse worker in Edinburgh, is also eyeing a Cannes debut.

Emma Mackey, Vicky Krieps and Fiona Shaw drama Hot Milk marks the directorial debut of Ida and She Said scribe Rebecca Lenkiewicz. The anticipated Film4-backed project has been submitted to Cannes and likely many a festival would be happy to have it this year.

Irish director Aislinn Clarke’s second feature Fréwaka , which has been billed as the first-ever Irish-language horror, is angling for a Midnight slot.

Nordic submissions include Magnus von Horn’s black-and-white drama The Girl With the Needle , inspired by the real-life story of child killer Dagmar Overbye. Von Horn’s first film The Here After played in Directors’ Fortnight while his second film Sweat received the Cannes 2020 pandemic-era label.

Also completed and in the running are Danish filmmaker Frederik Louis Hviid’s The Quiet Ones , inspired by a real-life 2008 heist and starring Reda Kateb, Gustav Giese and Amanda Collin.

Hot first film submissions from the region include Norwegian director Lilja Ingolfsdottir’s divorce drama Loveable , produced by The Worst Person in the World ‘s Thomas Robsahm.

Benelux hopefuls include Japan-set child custody drama A Missing Part by Guillaume Senez and starring Romain Duris; Fabrice Du Welz’s crime thriller Maldoror , featuring Béatrice Dalle in the cast; and César Diaz’s Mexico 86 , starring Bérénice Bejo as a Guatemalan rebel activist reunited with her son a decade after she fled to Mexico leaving him behind.

Emerging director Leonardo Van Dijl’s sports-world abuse drama Julie Keeps Quie t is being tipped for Critics’ Week or Un Certain Regard.

Tallulah Schwab’s surreal English-language, Netherlands-Belgian co-production Mr. K , starring Crispin Glover as a travelling magician stuck in a Kafkaesque nightmare when he is unable to leave a bizarre labyrinthine hotel, is another buzzy submission out of the region.

German comedy 2:1 , starring Sandra Hüller, has a summer release and seems a long shot but actress of the moment Hüller did get her big Cannes break in another German comedy, Toni Erdmann .

Out of Eastern & Central Europe, frontrunners include Georgian director Dea Kulumbegashvili’s second feature Those Who Find M e, about a dedicated obstetrician-gynecologist whose life falls apart when she is accused of negligence following the death of a newborn child in her care.

Ildiko Enyedi’s Silent Friend with Tony Leung (supposedly about “tales told from the perspective of a lonely old tree standing in the middle of a botanical garden”) is in production, so a fall festival or 2025 launch is on the cards for this one.

Frontrunners from Asia are Singaporean director Eric Khoo’s Japan-shot Spirit World , starring Catherine Deneuve as a legendary singer who embarks on a journey through the afterlife, and Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Serpent’s Path , a French adaptation of his eponymous 1988 thriller.

Khoo was last in Official Selection in 2011 with animated Un Certain Regard title Tatsumi and was a Palme d’Or contender with father-and-son drama My Magic in 2008. Kurosawa has debuted seven films in Cannes including Before We Vanish (2017), Journey to the Shore (2016) and Tokyo Sonata (2008).

Out of China, Qiu Sheng’s second solo feature The Father’s Son , inspired by his process of remembering his late father is also in ready and submitted. The filmmaker previously made waves on the festival circuit with Suburban Birds .

There’s also buzz around Philippine filmmaker Janus Victoria’s first feature Diamonds in the Sand , starring Hirokazu Kore-eda collaborator and Shoplifters co-star Lily Franky as a Japanese man who moves to the Philippines in belief he will never be lonely.

Out of Indonesia, director Mouly Surya’s l ong-awaited post-independence epic This City is a Battlefield and Tumpal Tampubolon’s thriller Crocodile Tears could also be in the mix.

Vietnamese filmmaker Minh Quý Trương’s Viêt and Nam , about two coalminers who dream of a better future above ground and overseas, and Myanmar director The Maw Naing ’ s women’s rights drama Ma , inspired by the country’s 2012 garment workers strikes, are also generating buzz.

Upcoming auteur titles from the region that will not be ready include Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang’s Bangkok-set psychological thriller Morte Cucina , which is in production, and Bi Gan’s sci-fi work Resurrection , which is in pre-production. There’s a question mark over whether Jia Zhangke’s We Shall Be All will finish post-production in time.

Getting Hayao Miyazaki to an international festival for The Boy and the Heron proved difficult, but the Ghibli founder could be showcased this year on the circuit via an under-the-radar documentary. First aired by Japanese broadcaster NHK late last year, we hear an international version of the doc about the making of Ghibli’s latest hit and the iconic but press-shy company founder could potentially go to a festival or market this year. If it isn’t ready for Cannes, Annecy would make a lot of sense. It’s sure to be lapped up by the studio’s legion of fans.

Kore-eda has been in post since late last year on a Samurai-themed drama series for a streamer. The filmmaker told us last week that he isn’t sure where or when it’ll launch and it’s firmly in post so Cannes seems unlikely, but festivals this year would surely love to have it in some form.

Middle East & Africa

Speculated submissions out of the Middle East and North Africa include Tunisian director Mehdi Barsaoui’s Aïcha , Saudi director Ahd Kamel’s My Driver and I , Ameer Fakher Eldin‘s Yunan and Palestinian director Laila Abbas’ West Bank-set inheritance law comedy-drama Thank You For Banking With Us!

My Driver and I is the debut feature of high-profile Saudi actress Kamel, whose credits include Ramy , Collateral and Wadjda . The coming-of-age tale revolves around the unlikely friendship between a young Jeddah girl and her Sudanese driver, played by You Will Die at 20 star Mustafa Shehata.

If it makes the cut in Official Selection or one of the parallel sections, it will be Saudi Arabia’s first feature film to world premiere at Cannes since the lifting of its cinema ban in 2017.

Yunan is the second feature from Kyiv-born, Syrian-parentage director Fakher Eldin after The Stranger , which debuted in Venice in 2021 and went on to represent Palestine at the Oscars. The new film revolves around a disillusioned, exiled writer who travels to a remote island in the North Sea.

Buzzy submissions out of Egypt include Mohamed Siam’s father-and-son tale Colonia , in which secrets are uncovered in a long night of settling old scores; Khaled Mansour’s Seeking Haven For Mr Rambo , in which a man battles to save his beloved dog; and Omar Brakry’s intriguing silent black-and-white film Abdo & Saneya , about an Egyptian peasant couple which emigrates to New York without any notion of American life in search of a cure for their infertility.

Nabil Ayouch’s upcoming feature Everyone Loves Touda has also been cited on some prediction round-ups, but with the Moroccan director recently posting on Instagram that he is on set with the film, it will be going on our 2025 fest list.

Continental African stories in the mix include Somali-Canadian rapper and singer K’naan Warsame’s feature directorial debut  Mother, Mother  starring Maan Youssouf Ahmed as a struggling widowed cattle herder who takes an unexpected route when offered the right of revenge against her son’s killer.

Latin America

We hear Karim Aïnouz’s Brazil-shot erotic thriller Motel Destino is ready for a Cannes shot . A question marks hangs over Argentinian filmmaker Lucrecia Martel’s long-awaited hybrid project Chocobar (which has been years in the making and on many annual Cannes lists) , about murdered indigenous leader Javier Chocobar.

There’s also a question mark over Mexican director Michel Franco’s Dreams, which he shot last summer under the radar in San Francisco with Jessica Chastain, Isaac Hernandez and Rupert Friend.

Mexican director Carlos Reygadas’ Wake of Umbra has been cited on some Cannes prediction list but Polish producer Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska at Madants told Deadline that the movie is currently shooting its Polish part.

We’ve also heard that Brazilian director Walter Salles is currently in post on I’m Still Here and will not be ready for Cannes. The political drama tells the true story of housewife-turned-activist Eunice Paiva whose opposition politician husband disappeared at the beginning of Brazil’s 21-year military regime in 1964.

At last year’s Cannes Film Festival , Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford and Scarlett Johansson hit the red carpet to premiere their latest big movies. But Hollywood may have a much lighter presence at the 2024 edition of one of the world’s most notable film festivals.

The culprit is the combination of last year’s actors and writers strikes, which created production delays, as well as a tough economy that’s leading studios to tighten the purse-strings. But there will still be stars on the Croisette, in addition to “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig, who will be presiding over the jury.

While the deadline to register feature-length films for Cannes’ Official Selection is coming up on Friday, a number of films have yet to screen for Cannes’ selection committee ahead of the press conference which will take place on April 11 in Paris. Cannes chief Thierry Fremaux already made a trip to L.A. in January and is returning at the end of the week for the Oscars, hoping to secure a few more high profile titles while in Hollywood.

Cannes is also eyeing Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness,” the helmer’s mysterious follow-up to “Poor Things,” which reunites him with Emma Stone and distributor Searchlight Pictures; Andrea Arnold’s “Bird” starring Barry Keoghan and Franz Rogowski, and Francis Ford Coppola ‘s self-produced epic “Megalopolis” with Adam Driver and Forest Whitaker. That would mark a big return for Coppola, who debuted his 1979 masterpiece “Apocalypse Now” 45 years ago in Cannes (It’s where he famously declared: “”We had access to too much money, too much equipment, and little by little we went insane…My film is not about Vietnam, it  is  Vietnam”). Quote-hungry journalists are salivating at the prospect of a Coppola press conference for “Megalopolis.”

Longer shots include Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer,” which Cannes officials still want to see, according to insiders. Some of the anticipated movies which will not play at Cannes include Steve McQueen’s “Blitz” from AppleTV+ (it won’t be completed on time) and Sam Taylor-Johnson’s “Back to Black,” the Amy Winehouse biopic. Studiocanal will release those two in the U.K. and France on April 12 and 24, respectively.

So far, the only blockbuster-sized U.S. title in the pipeline for Cannes is George Miller ‘s “Furiosa,” which Warner Bros. will release internationally on May 22. That’s no surprise since “Mad Max: Fury Road” kicked off its run at the 2015 festival. Unlike last year, when Cannes and Venice battled for the right to debut Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” (Cannes prevailed), we haven’t heard of a similar duel over a movie, and Netflix is still not expected to make a comeback on the Croisette — at least not until Cannes allows streaming movies to debut in competition. The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will take place May 14-25.

Time for a bigger boat? Check out what the Palm Beach International Boat Show has to offer

cannes yacht show 2024 dates

Whether you're the son of a son of a sailor or even just love that song and want to know more, the granddaddy of all boating events is happening this weekend along the West Palm Beach waterfront.

That's right, the Palm Beach International Boat Show is back for four glorious days along Flagler Drive.

This will be the 42nd annual event, and organizers promise it will be bigger and better than ever.

There will be $1.2 billion worth of Bond-worthy super yachts, cruisers, sportfishing boats, center consoles and even inflatables to see and tour, along with attractions and activities highlighting the latest in boat engines, motors and accessories. There will also be the latest fishing gear and even fishing seminars.

Yes, it's a big event, but don't be intimidated. In fact, here are seven fun facts about the show:

How many boats can this boat show boast?

There will be more than 800 boats on display along the floating docks in the Intracoastal Waterway.

What is the biggest boat at the boat show?

With a length of 236 feet (and 38 feet wide), Casino Royale takes the title for largest boat this year. This gorgeous yacht, designed for her exterior lines by Francesco Paszkowski with interior by Paszkowski’s interior lead designer Margherita Casprini, is also one of the most technically advanced yachts in her category. Casino Royale is powered by twin Caterpillar 3516B main engines and has an impressive top speed of 17.5 knots. You can put your checkbooks away for this one, however, as she is only on display and not for sale.

This boat is the boat show's most epensive

Built in 2022 and 196-feet long, Come Together is listed for $59,950,000. This expedition yacht was delivered by the Dutch shipyard Amels and features interior styling by British designer Winch Design. It can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in six cabins along with 14 crew members.

Are spectators allowed to go on the boats?

To go onboard the yachts and superyachts, visitors must make an appointment with the brokers. For the smaller boats, however, spectators can come onboard if they are interested in buying.

What is the smallest boat?

The smallest boat being displayed on the water is a runabout boat that is 22-feet-6-inches long, and 5-feet-11 wide. It is manufactured by Hermes.

Eating inside the boat show

The show will have dozens of food concessions featuring almost anything you could be craving, from Greek gyros to woodfired picanha, authentic street tacos and hand-crafted burgers. On a seafood diet? Enjoy fresh stone crab claws, calamari, oysters, and much more! Vegetarian, vegan, and/or gluten-free? No problem; they have options for you as well.

And libations at the boat show?

Of course there will be drinks. To be precise, there will be four bars for general admission guests, including two floating cocktail barges: the Goslings Island Bar and the Anheuser-Busch Barge. In addition there will be multiple bars in the Windward VIP Club.
