IOM Sailboat Stand. March 19, 2019. I made an IOM boat stand! The plans are from David Jensen in Bellevue, WA, USA. I found the plans through someone else's blog here, and a model sailboat club from Australia here. It was pretty straightforward to build.
This is the third RC sailboat construction manual I've written, and it's the most accurate. But it's also the one that I have the most anxiety about because I'm still a rookie in the IOM world and others are building such gorgeous boats.
I just finished up this boat stand design in 3/4” PVC pipe based on David Jennings IOM stand. It uses 3d-printed parts, but you do NOT need a 3d printer to make one. You can use wood parts and alternate hardware. The important details are the PVC dimensions. It is ripe for customization.
I have seen some boat stands that can go from the boat almost laying on its side to the full upright? But now I can't find any pictures? Can someone direct me to where I can find some or even some plans?
Build No.1 - Ian Vickers’ V8. Looking around at available plans, I came across the Ian Vickers V8 rendered as laser cut plans by Steve Deligan in Seattle. His blog: Stix of Wood is an excellent resource for a number of things on RC sailing. I built the boat following this blog almost exclusively.
Click on the link below to get the construction plans. You'll have to create your own templates for the cutouts where the hull fits into the ends. Just cut them a little oversize so you can glue in some foam to protect the hull paint. The shelf below is hinged in the middle and to the ends of the stand. That's what allows the stand to fold up.
