Top 100: Largest Superyacht Launches of 2021
By Danny Wiser
An eco-concious development, a family-friendly giant and two enormous explorer yachts, 2021 had it all in the yachting world. With a range of phenomenal releases, we look back at some of the largest superyacht launches the year had to offer...
#76: VIVA Known for her advanced hybrid propulsion system, Feadship wowed yacht enthusiasts with the launch of its ecologically-minded superyacht in February. The owner's brief was to keep the environmental output of the 94m at the same level as his significantly smaller superyacht he already owned, which was achieved through VIVA's range of technologically advanced systems she has in place. Though VIVA reaches a top speed in pure-diesel mode of 20 knots, her hybrid system allows her to cruise at 12 knots when her exhaust emissions are treated via the IMO Tier III catalytic converts and diesel particulate filters. Feadship ensured that her air-conditioning system would be optimised to prevent excessive power consumption and that VIVA would include an effective heat recovery system in order to minimise energy wastage. With a minimalist design, as per the owner's instructions, the Dutch shipbuilders worked in conjunction with Peter Marino Architects who delivered the superyacht’s ‘open beach-house-style interior’ to complement VIVA's modern and airy feel.
#72: BLISS The month of May saw the launch of yet another Feadship sea-bound behemoth, as BLISS prepared to make her way out of Feadship's Makkum shipyard. A prime example of a custom build, BLISS was built almost entirely with the close involvement of her new owners, with their vision now brought to life for the family who can set sail across the globe exploring the delights this planet has to offer. BLISS' capacity for adventure was made possible with the introdcution of her deep water anchor, dynamic positioning system and Polar certification. With a range of 6,000 nautical miles BLISS is likely to give her new owners a sense of freedom that very people are blessed with.
#35: AHPO Lürssen delivered yet another 100m+ yacht packed with family-focused features ranging from a ginormous gym to a wellness area. The six deck AHPO's name translates as 'grand lady' from Mandarin. She is packed out with innovative engineering systems including Dynamic Positioning for electronic anchoring and a heat recovery system to heat the swimming pool. With accommodation for 14 guests, AHPO is kitted out with a sleek design crafted by the team at Nuvolari & Lenard.
#13: SOLARIS The biggest superyacht of the year measures up at a whopping 140m, making her the largest explorer yacht to ever be built. Delivered by Lloyd Werft, the explorer yacht SOLARIS features the largest ABB Azipod® system ever installed on a superyacht and over 2,000 square metres of glass. As a natural evolution from Lloyd Werft's flagship LUNA, the German shipyard marked itself as a major player on the mega yacht scene with the delivery of yet another ginormous vessel. Featuring eight decks and a sleek white superstructure, little else is known about Solaris and it is her mystery that adds to her allure and charm.
"Many years from now [AHPO] will be timeless and yet still ahead of its time." Peter Lürssen, Lürssen CEO
"Many years from now [AHPO] will be timeless and yet still ahead of its time."

By Nina Done 1 July 2022
After her inaugural launch in February 2022, followed by successful sea trials in April, the official name of the highly-anticipated 160m (525ft) Lürssen mega yacht has now been unveiled as superyacht BLUE as she gets ready to depart the German yard’s facilities in Bremen and head to the Mediterranean following the handover to her Owners.
The impressive 15,320 GT yacht features exterior and interior styling by the esteemed British studio Terence Disdale Design, while naval architecture comes from Lürssen ’s in-house team. Showcasing the yard’s pedigree sleek exterior contours, she sports a crisp white hull and superstructure with extensive glazing across her four upper decks, giving her a sharp and elegant profile.
Efficiency and the desire to be as environmentally friendly as possible were key drivers for the technology on board.
While few details thus far have been revealed, what we do know is that on-board features include a pair of helicopter landing sites, comprising a large helideck at the bow and a smaller helipad aft, as well as an extensive swim platform providing guests with seamless access to the water. This area also adjoins a beach club.
Motor yacht BLUE boasts an array of al fresco relaxing and social living spaces across her decks, courtesy of her vast 22m (74ft) beam, as well as a crowd-pleasing Jacuzzi on her sun deck.
Accommodation is rumoured to be for 48 guests across 24 cabins ensuring a variety of guest party configurations.
The superyacht will be the world’s 4th largest yacht, and 2nd largest in terms of gross tonnage, behind another Lürssen superyacht, DILBAR , which has a volume of 15,917 GT and was delivered back in 2016.
It is not yet known whether M/Y BLUE will become a luxury yacht for charter. If you'd like to charter a yacht of a similar calibre, you can view and compare all Lürssen superyachts for charter . Speak to a yacht charter broker today for more information about making a booking.

The superyacht world is speculating that Mark Zuckerberg just bought this 118-meter boat
- The 118-meter superyacht Launchpad made her maiden voyage last week.
- The yacht world is speculating that her owner is Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
- Here's what we know about the luxury vessel.
In the world of superyachts , privacy is the most valuable asset. It can be next to impossible to discern the details of a superyacht transaction — and that's particularly true if the vessel in question is worth nine figures.
Yet some in the boat blogging world are speculating that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the new owner of Launchpad, a megayacht currently moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after she made her maiden voyage from Gibraltar to St Maarten last week. Launchpad clocks in at 118 meters long, about nine meters shorter than Jeff Bezos' superyacht Koru .
The transaction could not be confirmed, with yacht world insiders declining to share what they know and representatives for Zuckerberg not responding to a request for comment from Business Insider. In the past, reports about Zuckerberg owning superyacht Ulysses have proven false.
Related stories
"It is Feadship's standard policy to never divulge any information about our yachts with reference to ownership, costs, or delivery, etc," Feadship, the ship's builder, wrote to BI. "Whether it is an 18-meter Feadship from the 1960s or a 118-meter Feadship from the 21st century, we do not share private information."
But Zuckerberg's name has been connected to Launchpad for a few months now, beginning in December when reports swirled that he visited Feadship's shipyard in the Netherlands.
Then, earlier in March, yachting bloggers like eSysman SuperYachts and Autoevolution started speculating that he officially snagged the boat, originally built for a sanctioned Russian businessman, at a $300 million price tag. (While that's a seemingly huge amount, it's still less than 0.2% of Zuckerberg's $177 billion net worth.)
Another clue that might point to US ownership is that the yacht bears the flag of the Marshall Islands, a US territory and commonplace for American buyers to register their ships, according to public marine tracking.
If Zuckerberg were to have bought Launchpad, he would join a cohort of superyacht-owning tech billionaires . Along with Bezos, the likes of Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison and Google cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have purchased impressive boats with even more impressive amenities.
SuperYacht Times , an industry publication and intelligence platform, has some of the best images of the yacht. Photos show a swimming pool on her main deck and a large helipad.
While less is known of the interior, a vessel of her size can likely sleep dozens of guests and crew and may have amenities like an expansive gym where Zuckerberg could practice his jiu-jitsu or a spa with a massage area. We suspect there's also space for plenty of toys — which could include his viral hydrofoil foil .

Mark Zuckerberg’s $300million ‘birthday present’ mega yacht arrives in US – it even has its own $30m ‘wingman’ boat
- Isabelle Hajek , Freelance News & Blogs Reporter
- Published : 5:05, 21 Mar 2024
- Updated : 5:36, 21 Mar 2024
FACEBOOK Co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has shown off his wealth at sea, bringing his multimillion-dollar yacht to the United States just weeks before his birthday.
After rumors the billionaire was looking to invest in a yacht began circulating, Zuckerberg was quick to snag a $300 million mega yacht complete with its own $30 million partner boat.
He was seen in the Netherlands touring Project 1010, a Russian-commissioned mega yacht, in early March as said rumors began.
Due to sanctions involved in importing the vessel to the United States, delivery of Zuckerberg's multimillion-dollar boat was delayed, first being spotted in home waters on March 20.
The 387-foot long vessel docked at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with its chrome finish reflecting a harsh sun.
Project 1010 made its maiden voyage from the Netherlands after receiving special permission to be imported just weeks ahead of Zuckerberg's birthday on May 14, raising questions around whether it could be a gift to mark the occasion.
The mega vessel is not far off the size of Amazon mogul Jeff Bezos' $500 million 417-foot tall mega yacht, Koru, which was spotted in the same state in November of 2023.
The Abeona, his mega yacht's support vessel, contained a 264-foot garage holding Bezos' luxury cars, private helicopter, and jet skis, was docked at a slip four miles away.
To put into perspective the additional costs Zuckerberg is looking at, Bezos reportedly bankrolled a $16,500 per week bill for the Koru to stay at the port, a part of the $25 million in annual costs ship will rack up.
But cost is no object to the 39-year-old, as was the youngest billionaire to make the top 10 wealthiest people in the world list.

In 2021, Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly worth $108 billion, which rose to $138.4 billion by January of 2024.
Zuckerberg is hardly known for conserving his money when faced with large purchases.
In December 2021, it was reported that Zuckerberg was breaking ground on an estimated $270 million 57,000-square-foot Doomsday bunker.
The plans for the structure included filling the football field-sized space with 30 bedrooms, elevators, a swimming pool, a sauna, a tennis court, and a full-sized gym.
EARNING $48,328 - MINUTE BY MINUTE
While a $330 million purchase might sound outlandish to most, especially when coupled with a $270 million bunker, Zuckerberg can make that money back in about two months.
The Meta, formerly Facebook, founder makes between $6 million and $12 million each day, equating to an estimated yearly earning of more than $3 billion.
In 2018, Zuckerberg earned roughly $1.7 million an hour, according to previous Business Insider calculations.
By 2020, he was reportedly ranked the fourth richest person on the planet.

For scale: It takes Zuckerberg less than an hour-and-a half to earn what the Social Security Administration reports and average American man with a bachelor's degree will earn in his lifetime — $2.2 million.
In less than two minutes, Zuckerberg makes what it takes the full-time median US worker a year to earn — $48,328, writes Business Insider.

Mark Zuckerberg’s $300million ‘birthday present’ mega yacht arrives in US – it even has its own $30m ‘wingman’ boat

Mega Millions jackpot soars to nearly $1 billion. Here's what to know
(AP) - The winning numbers for a nearly $1 billion Mega Millions lottery prize will be drawn Friday night, offering sudden riches to any lucky player who matches them and almost certain disappointment for everyone else.
Since three months have passed without a winner, the Mega Millions jackpot has grown to an estimated $977 million. That large prize reflects the incredibly long odds of winning the jackpot, as the longer the stretch without a winner, the more the prize grows.
The jackpot ranks as the 10th largest in U.S. lottery history — about half the size of a record $2.04 billion Powerball prize won in November 2022.
HOW DO I PLAY?
Players can buy tickets for $2 and select six numbers from separate pools. Five of the selections come from one pool, with different numbers from 1 to 70, and the other is for the Mega Ball, with numbers from 1 to 25. Some states also give players the option of paying more for different options that increase payouts or give people extra sets of numbers.
People can pick their own numbers — and some play the same numbers each time — but most players opt for the quick pick option, which lets a computer generate random numbers.
Mega Millions holds drawings twice a week, at 11 p.m. EDT on Tuesday and Fridays, telecast from a television studio in Atlanta. The numbers are also quickly posted on the game’s website.
HOW MUCH WOULD I WIN?
A lot, but likely a lot less than you might think.
First, that’s because the advertised jackpot of $977 million is for a sole winner who is paid through an annuity , with an initial payment and then annual checks for 29 years. Nearly all winners actually prefer a cash payout, which for Friday night’s drawing would be an estimated $461 million — less than half the number splashed across billboards and in neon ads at convenience stores.
Before forking over the money, lottery officials also would deduct 24% for federal taxes. The final tax bill could ultimately be higher though, as some of the winnings could be subject to the top federal tax bracket of 37%. State taxes also could be assessed, depending on where a player bought the winning ticket.
There also is a chance that more than one person will buy a winning ticket — as in 2016, when there were three winning tickets for a $1.6 billion lottery jackpot. Whatever the jackpot amount, it could be divvied into smaller prizes.
SO WHAT ARE THE ODDS?
Focusing on the amount of a jackpot prize misses the greater point — that you almost certainly will not win.
The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.6 million, and it’s those low odds that enable the game to trundle along without a winner for months. If the odds were better, people would win jackpots more frequently, so the top prizes wouldn’t grow so large — and entice so many people to play. In fact, Mega Millions lengthened its odds in 2019 in order to create bigger jackpots.
During the current stretch, there hasn’t been a jackpot winner since Dec. 8, 2023. That’s 29 consecutive drawings without someone matching all the numbers.
That said, lottery officials note there have been millions of winning tickets during that span, with prizes ranging from $2 to $1 million. The key, they say, is to play for fun and take a chance to dream a little, but not with an expectation of getting rich.
And of course, eventually, someone will win the jackpot.
WHO RUNS THESE GAMES?
Mega Millions and Powerball, the other big lottery game, are run separately but both are overseen by state lotteries. Mega Millions is played in 45 states as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball also operates in 45 states plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The games don’t operate in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada or Utah.
Both of the games raise money for the jurisdictions where they operate along with profits from other lottery games, such as scratch tickets. Some states shift the money into their general funds while others use it for specific purposes, such as funding college scholarships or state parks.

Russian IADS Redux Part-7: The Effectors
In the next part of our series on Russia’s strategic integrated air defence system, we look at the kinetic ground-based air defence systems it deploys.
In part-6 of our series on Russia’s strategic Integrated Air Defence System (IADS) we examined the command and control architecture it depends upon. The IADS’ role is ultimately to provide a response to air threats approaching or entering Russian airspace. In Russian air defence doctrine this response is provided using kinetic and/or electronic effects.
The kinetic side of the IADS depends on the Russian Aerospace Force’s (RASF’s) fighters and Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) systems. Sources have shared with Armada that both the fighter and SAM force would be deployed in wartime to protect key Russian strategic targets. Typically, these could include politico-military targets like the Kremlin, the seat of the Russian government in Moscow. Other potential strategic targets include hardened facilities believed to be earmarked for use by the Russian leadership in wartime. One of these facilities is thought to be located at Mount Yamantau, southwest Russia. A back-up facility may exist at Mount Kosvinsky Kaman, western Russia. Russia’s industrial city of Elektrostal, on the eastern outskirts of Moscow, was one of the first locations where the RASF deployed its S-400 (NATO reporting name SA-21 Growler) high-altitude, long-range SAM systems in 2010.
The SAM Systems
Moscow itself is ring-fenced by the RASF’s 53T6 (ABM-3 Gazelle) anti-ballistic missile system. The 53T6 employs SAMs equipped with a ten kiloton (one kiloton is equal to 1,000 tonnes of conventional explosive) nuclear warhead. These missiles would detonate at altitude in proximity to incoming salvos of ballistic missile warheads or formations of hostile aircraft. The logic is that this ‘shotgun’ approach will vaporise, or at least badly damage, these targets.
The S-400 is the mainstay of the RASF SAM force. A typical S-400 battalion includes two batteries. A battery comprises between eight and twelve individual launch vehicles, each equipped with four missile tubes. Thus, an S-400 regiment could have between 56 and 84 individual missiles ready to launch if fully loaded. Each battery has a command post, a 91N6 (Big Bird) S-band (2.3 gigahertz/GHz to 2.5GHz/2.7GHz to 3.7GHz) 324 nautical mile/nm (600 kilometre/km) range surveillance and tracking radar. The 91N6 is joined by a 96L6E (Cheese Board) C-band (5.25GHz to 5.925GHz) early warning and target acquisition radar. This radar has a range of up to 162nm (300km). A plethora of SAMs can be launched by the S-400 with an array of engagement ranges from 21.6nm (40km) using the active radar homing 9M96E missile. Engagement ranges can reach up to 216nm (400km) using the 40N6E missile which has a reported engagement altitude of 98,425 feet/ft (30,000 metres/m).
Legacy systems used by the RASF include the S-300PS (SA-10B Grumble-B) and S-300PM (SA-10D/E Grumble) which have subtle differences. An S-300PS battery has three Maz-543 launch vehicles each with four launch tubes. The battery is also equipped with a single 5N63S (Flap Lid-B) X-band (8.5GHz to 10.68GHz) fire control radar. An S-300PM battery has a single 36N6E (Flap Lid) X-band/Ku-band (13.4GHz to 14GHz/15.7GHz to 17.7GHz) fire control radar with a 162nm (300km) range. Joining the 36N6E is a 76N6 (Clam Shell) X-band (8.5GHz to 10.68GHz) search and track radar with a 70nm (120km) range. The rest of the battery is comprised of up to eight Kraz-260 launch vehicles each with four tubes. Both the S-300PS/PM are thought to deploy 48N6/E SAMs which have a reported 81nm (150km) range. The S-300PS/PM’s 5V55R missile has an engagement range of up to 48.6nm (90km).
Sources have shared with Armada that RASF SAM batteries are not routinely deployed but may deploy from time-to-time to support exercises or training. The batteries would only be deployed in anger to protect key strategic targets like those discussed above. The sources continued that the task of the SAM units is to provide a protective ‘bubble’ above these targets. Air defence coverage up to 54 nautical miles/nm (100 kilometres/km) altitude and a range radius of 189nm (350km) around the target would be provided. The SAM units would work to attrit any incoming air attack as much as possible. Russian air defence doctrine focuses on safeguarding as many strategic targets as possible in anticipation of an eventual counterattack.
One crucial part of the RASF’s SAM force is its 96K6 Pantsir-S1 (SA-22 Greyhound) combined medium-range SAM and anti-aircraft artillery systems. 96K6 units would deploy with S-300 and S-400 batteries. Their role would be to destroy air-launched weapons like anti-radiation missiles or attack helicopters engaging the batteries Armada’s sources added.
Over the longer term, the RASF is looking to introduce new SAM systems to enhance the strategic IADS in the form of the S-350E and S-500 Prometey long-range, high-altitude SAM systems. The S-350E is mooted as a replacement for the RASF’s S-300PS/PM batteries. Open sources state that a S-350E battery has one 50N6A X-band ground-based air surveillance radar with a range of 215nm (400km). The 50N6A is joined by a single 50K6A mobile command post and up to eight 50P6 launch vehicles. Each launch vehicle can fire 9M96/E or 9M100 SAMs with engagement ranges and altitudes of up to 65nm (120km) and 98,000ft (30,000m) respectively. It was reported in January 2020 that the first S-350E battery had entered service, although a developmental system may have been deployed to support Russia’s military presence in Syria. The VKS could receive twelve S-350E batteries by 2027.
The S-500 is mooted to have a longer engagement range than the S-350E. The S-500 ensemble includes a 91N6A(M) air surveillance and battle management radar. This radar is an enhanced version of the 91N6A radar accompanying the S-400. The S-500’s 96L6TSP target acquisition radar is an enhanced variant of the S-400’s 96L6E. These two systems are accompanied by the 76T6 multimode fire control radar, itself thought to be a derivative of the 92N6. Also forming part of the S-500 ensemble is the 77T6 anti-ballistic missile engagement radar the capabilities of which remain largely unknown in the public domain.
Open sources say that missiles equipping the S-500 could hit targets at ranges of up to 270nm (500km). Russian sources have claimed that the S-500 could engage targets at up to 656,168ft (200,000m) altitude. Russian media, seldom the most reliable source, claim that the first S-500 regiment went on combat duty in October 2021.
The long-term prognosis for the S-500 and S-350E systems remains uncertain. As documented by the Royal United Services Institute, a London-based thinktank, the Russian defence industry is dependent on clandestinely-sourced Western microelectronics for sophisticated weapons systems. Will Western efforts to clamp down on Russia’s access to such technology have an impact on the fortunes of the S-350E and S-500?
Stay tuned for more analysis on Russia’s strategic air defence capabilities in the next instalment of our Russian IADS Redux series.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported
B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.
Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.
Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.
Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.
Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.
The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.
Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."
More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.
Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.
The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."
The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.
On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.
The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.
There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

PGA Tour’s Monahan describes ‘constructive’ meeting with Saudi leader of LIV Golf

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — The PGA Tour took a first step in sparking negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s national wealth fund with a meeting in the Bahamas that Commissioner Jay Monahan described as “constructive” without offering many more details.
In a memo late Monday night to players, Monahan said the player directors on the PGA Tour Enterprises board met with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of the Public Investment Fund that provides the money behind rival LIV Golf.
It was the first time player directors, including Tiger Woods, met with Al-Rumayyan. Woods played nine holes with him at Albany Golf Club, according to a person informed of the meeting who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the day.
The other player directors are Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Webb Simpson and Peter Malnati. Golfweek first reported the meeting was likely to take place Monday in Ponte Vedra Beach. It shifted to the Bahamas, where Woods often keeps his yacht.
“The conversation throughout was constructive and represents an important part of our due diligence process in selecting potential investors for PGA Tour Enterprises,” Monahan said in the memo. “This mirrors the approach we employed earlier this year as we evaluated an investment offer from the Strategic Sports Group.”
The PGA Tour, European tour and PIF reached an agreement announced June 6 to form a commercial partnership. The deal was to be finalized by the end of 2023. But amid government inquiries, and interest from private equity groups, the deal wasn’t done.
The PGA Tour selected SSG, a consortium of U.S. sports owners, in December. A month later, SSG pledged an initial $1.5 billion investment , which could increase to $3 billion. The next step is getting PIF as a minority investor or risk more players defecting to LIV Golf.
As the tour was negotiating with U.S. private equity, LIV Golf lured Masters champion Jon Rahm , along with Tyrrell Hatton, in a move that took more big names away from the PGA Tour and further splintered the golf landscape.
“During the session, Yasir had the chance to introduce himself to our player directors and talk through his vision, priorities and motivations for investing in professional golf,” Monahan said.
He told players he would keep them updated as much as possible, “but please understand that we need to maintain our position of not conducting negotiations in public.”
Malnati had said over the weekend there was “massive resistance” to Saudi involvement because of the surprise June 6 announcement — Monahan, board members Ed Herlihy and Jimmy Dunne were the only ones involved.
“As I’ve learned more, I think I understand better and I’m very open-minded to learning what involvement they want, what they want out of this and how they think they can help,” Malnati said. “On the surface, I think there are players who have resistance to that relationship, for sure. So that’s why I do think it’s important that maybe our next step is to meet at some point.”
Cantlay said without PIF investing in PGA Tour Enterprises, he could see golf going down a path of two rival leagues whose top players meet only four times a year at the majors.
Rory McIlroy is no longer on the board, giving up his seat in November and since being replaced by Spieth. He is among those who have met with Al-Rumayyan. McIlroy had said on a British soccer podcast at the start of the year that he returned from his visit and encouraged the tour to meet with the Saudi leader behind LIV Golf.
“I don’t think this is an overnight solution,” McIlroy said. “But if we can get the investment in, then at least we can start working towards a compromise where we’re not going to make everyone happy, but at least make everyone understand why we’re doing what we’re doing.”
