Crewing for Yacht Delivery Services
When you're thinking about a job in the yachting industry, don't overlook delivery jobs when conducting your search. There are several reasons yacht owners or management companies look for crew to deliver their yacht. One common reason is that the yacht either has been refitted or is going to be refitted and it needs to be transported to or from the shipyard. Another reason many yacht owners hire delivery crew is that they are planning a special cruise in another country and they need a crew to get the yacht there safely.
Start your search for your Dream Job Today!
While some owners simply choose to have their yachts shipped to their destination, having an experienced crew onboard delivering the yacht can actually save money. For example, the delivery crewmembers can perform many of the small repair or maintenance tasks that need to be accomplished before the yacht reaches its destinations.
Yacht owners also like having their yachts delivered rather than shipped because it gives them more flexibility in the schedule and route.
Freelance or Delivery Service Company?
When it comes to getting a job delivering yachts, you may have two choices open to you. First, if you're a qualified, trained, and experienced captain, you can look for work independently as a freelance worker. That means that you will have to market yourself, network on the docks and local area, and drum up the work yourself. You may also have to hire a few crewmembers to work with you. If you are well connected in the industry this could be a good alternative for you.
However, for most crewmembers, it's highly likely that you will need to sign on with a delivery service company. These companies specialize in this kind of service. Some delivery companies also offer additional services like training, consulting, or delivering other boats than yachts. Opportunities include:
- Yacht captain positions
- Yacht engineer jobs
- Positions for mates
- Deckhand jobs
Since these are one-way trips, you'll receive a per day fee as well as your food, and the client should also supply a plane ticket for you to return to the home dock or city.
Delivering Yachts To Break Into the Industry
You'll also get to travel to a great variety of locations, from domestic coastlines to the Caribbean and even Asia and other countries, depending on the owner's requirements and/or the delivery company's service area. Some delivery companies only deliver to the Caribbean or other specific locations.
Delivery captains also say that working these jobs helps you to build connections with others in the industry, which can result in future work. The more networking you do, the more likely you are to find other work.
If you're just starting out and willing to work as a volunteer or lower pay to get the experience and sea hours, then working as part of a delivery crew may be a great choice for you. It can also work well for experienced captains who want to have more flexibility in their schedules or work as independent contractors.

Superyacht Jobs
Matching quality crew with quality superyachts For almost a decade, we’ve made it our job to find you the best superyacht job by taking a candidate-first approach to crew recruitment.
Reliable, responsive and realistic
Only by understanding your skills and yacht career aspirations can we successfully connect you with your dream role onboard whilst ensuring an exemplary owner and guest experience.
Being ex-yachties ourselves, we know how competitive the industry can be and how reality often fails to meet expectations, so it’s our mission to change that.
Putting equal emphasis on the interests of everyone involved, we are able to pair the perfect crew with the perfect superyacht 99% of the time.
Roles we recruit for From the bridge to the engine room and the deck to the galley, we recruit at all levels from green crew with certified potential to experienced Heads of Departments and Captains. Specialist secondary skills also range from personal care and fitness through to AV/IT, watersports instructors, medically trained personnel and manual trades.
Junior to senior and lead deckhands, bosuns and officers, junior to chief engineers, junior to chief stew, galley hand to head chef.
Our Promise
By putting your trust in Quay Crew, you can trust us to:
- Be honest and transparent – if you’re not suited to the role or the culture of the yacht, we’ll tell you; and if the yacht isn’t offering a competitive salary or package, we’ll consult with them too.
- Give career advice – on the roles you’re currently suitable for, how you can improve your CV and what secondary skills could make you stand out.
- Never send your CV on-spec – we’ll always speak 1-2-1 with a candidate before putting them forward for a role and follow up with verbal references from past yachts and employers.
- Communicate – at every stage of the process, whether it’s good or bad news.

Testimonials.
“I think the reason that Quay Crew is (in my opinion and most of my colleagues’ opinions too) the industry’s leading agent is down to the culture of integrity, honesty and real care that permeates your company, and the careful selection of a candidate that will stay in the job. Long may it continue. I will never hesitate to use, recommend or assist Quay Crew for as long as I’m in yachting, and after.”
Chief Officer – 70m Yacht
“Having moved into the yachting industry from the commercial sector, Sam gave me valuable feedback on my CV and routes into the industry. I can highly recommend Sam to anyone looking for their next engineering position as she does her best to make sure that the yacht is right for you.”
2nd Engineer – 52m Yacht
“Having been in contact with Caroline since the summer, I felt the whole way through my search application process that she was completely on my side and has supported me and given me the confidence to propel my career to the next level.”
Chief Stew – 60m Yacht
“I would just like to take this opportunity to express how amazing Max has been in finding myself and my partner a position on a brand-new build. Max has been such a rock star in not just finding me one job but two jobs, which I am absolutely grateful for. It’s really nice to have a crew agency like Quay Crew who are reliable, trustworthy as well as always wanting to consider your best interests. The team at Quay Crew are absolutely exceptional and I will always recommend only the best for them. ”
Captain – 30m+ Yacht
“The best crew agent I have ever dealt with…always on the ball, super efficient, attentive and always available. There are so many agencies that only care about the yachts because they are the ones paying and completely ignore the crew so I want to thank you for all your help. ”
Head of Service – 100m Yacht
“I really appreciate the communication and commitment from Quay Crew and would like to mention that Tom has been incredible throughout the process. He had a vast amount of information relating to the role and yacht and knew exactly what would suit me. I highly recommend Quay Crew.”
Bosun – 60m+ Yacht
“Quay Crew was the most professional of the agencies I was using in my search. I had constant communication throughout and the whole process was personal. I’m very happy with the placement and would recommend Glen and the team to anyone. ”
2nd Officer – 65m Yacht
“What sets the team apart more than anyone else is the open and honest dialogue as well as the feeling that we’re working towards the same goal. Rather than just being another number or CV on someone’s desk, I established an amazing rapport with Glen so that he was able to really know what my goals were and where I wanted to take my career…and he was absolutely instrumental in seeing that I achieved that by placing me on my current vessel. At some point in the future, I plan to be on the opposite side of the interview process and Quay Crew will be the first agency that I reach out to.”
2nd Officer – 80m Yacht
“I wanted to say how fantastic Tom has been in finding a job for me. From first talking to him on the phone, he gave some fantastic advice about the industry and made the whole process feel calm and easy. His communication was absolutely exemplary and he went above and beyond to secure me a job. I would highly recommend Quay Crew to anyone.”
Deckhand – 90m Yacht
“I recently completed a 4 week trip through Quay crew on a yacht that Phil placed me on. I had applied for the role through other agencies but they refused [to put me forward] and Phil was the only recruiter that I spoke to who also saw flexibility in the job requirements. It’s a pleasure dealing with a recruiter that actually understands the role and the candidates suited for it. I hope to work with Phil and the Quay crew team again in the future.”

I quit my job as a delivery driver to be a Henry VIII impersonator. This job is my whole life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
- David Smith dropped his career as a delivery driver and factory worker to become a Henry VIII impersonator.
- He earns a living by giving talks and performances as Henry VIII at schools and heritage sites.
- After leaving behind a more traditional job, he wouldn't consider ever going back.
This is an as-told-to essay based on a conversation with 24-year-old UK resident David Smith about his career as a Henry VIII impersonator. It has been edited for length and clarity. Business Insider has confirmed his previous and current employment. Smith declined to share his earnings.
I was eight years old when I saw a portrait of Henry VIII in all his regalia. I was mesmerized by it.
My passion grew from there: I spent my childhood reading my mom's encyclopedias, buying Tudor books, and watching documentaries about Henry VIII and his six wives.
I studied the Tudors at elementary school and wanted to become a history teacher but my local high school didn't teach Tudor history.
I ended up dropping out of school when I turned 17, and went to work in a factory and then as a delivery driver. During that time, my love of history still lingered in the back of my mind.
Everything changed when I found a Henry VIII outfit on Facebook Marketplace for £20 ($25) in 2021. I'd always wanted to own one, whether I'd wear it or not.
I decided to post a photo of myself wearing it on Facebook. Immediately messages flooded in telling me I bore a resemblance to the young King. A historical costumier saw the post and directed me to a reenactment group looking for a young Henry.
I debuted my impersonation with the group on a voluntary basis. During the week, I'd be in the factory, and then on the weekend, I'd self-finance my trips around the country to different palaces. The other reenactors and I would travel to heritage sites like Penshurst Place (a site once used as Henry VIII's hunting lodge), where we would perform and walk around the grounds in character, educating people on the Tudors.
After a year, the high travel costs and exhaustion got to me, but I didn't want to give up on being Henry. I decided to start doing it as paid work: I set up a business email address and a Facebook page and started getting in touch with palaces and historic workshops myself.
'You have to believe that you are the king'
My current job is a long way from my career as a delivery driver, which I ended just last year.
I now work five days a week visiting schools, palaces, and other heritage sites. I adapt to what the venue wants: I do historical talks, live reenactments of historical events, and even Tudor dancing.
My job could be described as being half teacher, half method actor. Nearly every time I go into a school, a kid asks me, "If you're Henry VIII, how are you still alive?" I usually reply, "Well, God wills it to be so," and in some ways, I have to believe it myself.
To do the job well, you have to believe that you are the most important person — that you are the king. You have to believe that you were chosen by God. All that definitely gives you confidence that stays with you.
Recently, I took part in a three-course banquet at the Old Palace in Hatfield House, an estate previously owned by Henry VIII and now owned by the Marquess of Salisbury. Visitors could dine with me and Anne Boleyn for around £80 ($100) per person.
Related stories
The whole experience was as historically accurate as possible. My hands were washed for me, my food was cut for me, my goblet was refilled whenever I needed it, and everyone had to bow and curtsey to me.
Out of all the events I've attended, that was the one that made me feel most like Henry VIII. I felt how he must've felt being there and being served.
Becoming Henry
Some people wrongly see Henry as just an obese, tyrannical despot of a King. While that's reflective of the last years of his life, when he ordered the execution of thousands of people, that wasn't always how he was. He was also a scholar and a well-mannered leader.
It's incredible to see the excitement you see on kids' faces when you go into schools, and they get to see this historic character brought to life.
While I'm not a traditional teacher, I still think of myself as one. I get all the good bits — meeting new pupils and sharing my passion for history — without the stress that teachers deal with.
After my visit, one school sent me letters to my home address: 30 letters from children expressing how much they loved my visit and shared all the facts they remembered. That was a particularly touching moment.
Life outside Henry
Unlike my old job, I have to take my role home with me.
My beard is cut in the same way Henry had his and although I'm naturally blond, I dye my hair and beard ginger to improve the resemblance.
It's definitely taxing on my time. Every two weeks, I travel around 70 miles to practice traditional Tudor dancing with a group. And even when I come home from a long day at work, all I want to do is get straight back to learning more about the Tudors.
A lot of my earnings go back into the business. Each of my outfits is custom-made by historical costumiers to my exact measurements. Prices start at £2,000 ($2,500) — and that's without all the extras that go with it: the rings, the chain of office, the medallions. I currently own two of these outfits.
Getting the money together takes me a while, but I pride myself on accuracy. I live and breathe it.
Most of my small circle of friends work in reenactment too, and they understand that this lifestyle is a defining part of who I am. My name is saved as Henry in most of their phones.
While my career may seem a long way off from other people's jobs, I still have the same concerns and ambitions.
Trying to "make it" in any industry requires a level of sacrifice, be that on your time or your relationships. Perhaps the hardest thing is the fear of running out of bookings, like with any freelance job.
But all that matters to me is that I have enough to live on and keep investing in this passion. I don't really care for buying a fancy house or fancy cars, I just want to earn enough to buy Tudor books and add to my collection of Tudor portraits.
I could never go back to a 'normal' job, I'll keep doing this, even if one day it means having to take a pay cut.

Feadship’s first full hybrid electric project 1012 takes to the sea.

The first full hybrid electric yacht by Feadship Royal Dutch Shipyards, Project 1012, emerges from ... [+] the shed at Makkum in preparation for sea trials and July delivery.
Feadship has announced the launch of their first full Hybrid Electric Class yacht, Project 1012, from Hoofdorp, The Netherlands. The yacht headed out of the shed at Makkum for sea trials in anticipation a July delivery to its Spanish owner, a repeat Feadship customer. Project 1012’s design is noteworthy inside and out, dovetailing a contemporary chamfered hull with a traditional flared bow, defining its modern classic profile.
By The Numbers
On the way to sea trials from Makkum, Feadship's 91.80-meter yacht, Project 1012, is guided away ... [+] from the shed but toward the shipyard's carbon neutral goal, Road to Zero, 2030.
Project 1012 measures 91.80 m/301’2” in length, bow to stern. Stretching across a 14.50m/47’7” beam, the yacht has a 3.90m/12’10” draft. The crisp navy-blue steel hull and bright white aluminum superstructure work well with upper decks, pleasantly curved and cleanly wrapped in uninterrupted floor to ceiling glass. The overall effect? Ultra-clean.
The propulsion system powers the yacht with two MTU 16V4000M65 main engines offering 2560kW at 1800 RPM with shaft-driven, fixed pitch propellers. Additionally, three Caterpillar C18 generators provide 465 ekW, and two PTI/PTO, Power Take-off /Power Take-in, motors provide 2 x 560 kW, with a Lithium-Ion battery capacity of 1 megawatt.
Feadship Project 1012 in 3/4 profile shows off the extended beach club and aft deck requested by the ... [+] owner as one of the reasons for building a new yacht.
The yacht’s conventional diesel propulsion mode is assisted by the e-motors which work as shaft generators, providing electricity for hotel loads and battery bank recharging. Low speed navigation is also a benefit of this hybrid system, using the power from generators or batteries to navigate marinas and tight maneuvers.
Those systems give the project a top speed of 17.5 knots, with a cruise range of 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots.

The launch of another groundbreaking Feadship moves them one step closer to their 2030 neutral ... [+] carbon goal with state-of-the-art Feadship technology.
The yacht’s naval architecture was penned by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects, complemented by design from Sinot Yacht Architecture and the owner’s design resources. Additional owner requests regarding specific exterior design were well integrated owing to the owner’s long history of yachting experience.
Excellence in craftsmanship evident throughout the yacht exhibits impeccable execution of detail, turning the yacht into an “understated family home.”
Interior Details
The owner’s request for more beach club space resulted in the new design commanding 25 percent of the length of the lower deck. In addition to a large, fixed stern platform, two fold-down platforms to port and starboard contribute to 165 square meters, approximately 1776 square feet, of leisure lounging at the water’s edge. Just forward of the beach club, a side-load garage secures storage for two 10-meter tenders, a ski boat, and a bevy of additional water toys.
The large stern platform and two fold-down decks to port and starboard create a grand beach club ... [+] worthy of the 165 square meters dedicated to waterfront leisure.
Forward of the tender garage and engine room, the usual placement of a galley, crew mess, and crew cabins own the lower deck bow. From the stern beach club platform, a matched pair of sweeping staircases to port and starboard lead to the main aft deck where a large pool beckons. A shaded open air lounge tucks in under the deckhead overhang.
Guest suites and staff cabins located forward on the main deck, and master stateroom, family lounge, and wellness area on upper decks, are outfitted with natural materials and finishes. The sun deck is graced with a forward-facing sofa and sun loungers, collecting guests for sunsets, panoramas, and observation. The aft portion of the sun deck, fitted with a crane, stores two rescue tenders.
Project Manager Albert Abma comments in a Feadship press release, "Working with the experienced owner, designers, and owner's team has been a professional pleasure," continuing, “Gathering the operational experience of the owner’s team with the yard’s building experience has resulted in this modern-classic, state-of-art and full custom new Feadship”.
Feadship’s Roadmap To Zero
Project 1012 details illustrate the Feadship hallmark of craftsmanship.
As Feadship aims carefully at a carbon-neutral superyacht by 2030, Project 1012 puts them one step closer to a fuel system engaging progressive thinking, assuring every Feadship is poised to transition gracefully to new fuels.
“The crucial next step is that we need a flexible or agnostic fuel system, meaning it has to work with the fuels of today, but also those of tomorrow, as we’re not yet talking of just fuel cells for propulsion purposes,” notes Giedo Loeff, head of Feadship R & D, in a Feadship press release. With that 2030 commitment, Loeff adds, “Our announcement is significant because as of now Feadship plans to build yachts with tanks and systems that are certified for a whole array of non-fossil fuels.”

Significantly tiny in size, a Cupertino home is selling for big bucks: $1.7 million
- Show more sharing options

A home in Cupertino, Calif., that measures less than 400 square feet is making headlines across the U.S. for its surprising asking price: more than $1.7 million.
Some are comparing the one-bedroom and one-bathroom home to a hotel room, so small that there isn’t enough space in the kitchen for a full size refrigerator or stove.
What’s also drawing people’s attention is the size of the lot the home sits on: nearly 7,900 square feet.
It received eight offers, all above the asking price, and the winning bidder is expected to close escrow in May.
“The marketing strategy was to market the [listing] as a home and to get as many eyes on it as possible and it obviously worked,” said Faviola Perez, broker with the Compass Bonafede Team.
High real estate prices are not uncommon in California’s Silicon Valley, home to tech giants like Apple, Google and Oracle. The median price for homes sold in Cupertino is $2 million, according to a recent report by Rocket Homes. And the tiny house on Carmen Road shows that size doesn’t always matter.
California housing crisis so bad once-modest towns have become ‘million-dollar cities’
After adding 12 this year, California accounts for 210 of the country’s 550 cities where the typical home value is more than $1 million, according to an analysis by Zillow.
April 15, 2024
Perez, the co-listing agent for the home, said the team knew the bulk of the value of the property was in the land.
The property has potential for expansion or building on, but the “shock factor” for everyone was the size of the home and its accompanying price tag, she said.
The Zillow listing says the home is nestled at the end of a cul-de-sac, near hiking trails and Silicon Valley’s tech hubs.
More importantly, Perez said, the home is close to the Los Altos Hills border, an area where home values start at an estimated $5 million, according to Zillow .
Los Altos Hills home values influence those in adjacent communities, an added bonus for someone who wants to build. Perez said the city of Cupertino’s planning department will allow the property owner to build a home that’s more than 3,600 square feet in size.
“It definitely is location, location, location, as cliche as that may sound,” she said.

All-cash offers, wealthy buyers push Southern California home prices to a record
Southern California home prices have hit a record despite high interest rates, a reflection of a shortage of inventory and the region’s wealth disparity.
April 11, 2024
The broker could not disclose the total price tag until the sale is final but said it’s selling for “considerably over asking.”
Neighbors told Perez that the home was initially used as a hunting cabin.
“The home was actually built brick by brick in the 1940s by the family that is currently selling it,” she said.
It was later used by the family as a rental but became vacant for some time.

CAL-WEST Specialty Coatings, Inc.
A Green approach to prepare and protect high-value surfaces.
Earth-friendly chemistry from Silicon Valley that also increases efficiency and profitability.
For over twenty-five years, Cal-West Specialty Coatings has been the leader in innovative products that prepare and protect high-value surfaces during construction, refinish, and in-transit operations. Cal-West's customers include some of the world's largest, most respected companies who distribute its products globally.
Cal-West serves a broad range of markets including: automotive, marine, manufacturing, construction, and aerospace.
Its patented offerings are not just green, they're extremely effective. The guiding principles for each product are to increase throughput and reduce rework and returns. "Getting it right" the first time improves profitability and keeps users competitive.
Biodegradable
Cal-West's "wash-off" coatings are ultimately biodegradable. They provide superior protection compared to plastic and other masking materials and don't end up in landfills.
Recycled Content
Cal-West's peelable coatings utilize a resin system manufactured from post-consumer recycled materials that provides superior film strength, durability and longevity.
Super-low VOC
VOCs contribute to smog formation. Products that reduce them make for cleaner air to breath. All Cal-West products comply with California's VOC regulations, the strictest in the world.
Key applications for Cal-West products
Booth Maintenance
Cal-West brings a clean-room mentality to spray booths. The trapping and removal of contamination, combined with products that optimize lighting and make booths more servicable, deliver superior paint jobs without rework.
Liquid Masking
With liquid masking, body shops can eliminate overspray damage and its associated costs for as little as $10 per vehicle. The result: reduced cycle time. Not only that, but a shop's dumpster will no longer overflow with plastic.
Corrosion Protection
Best practices dictate that factory-level corrosion protection be restored when vehicles are repaired. Cal-West's corrosion inhibiting compounds packaged in convenient aerosol cans make it fast and easy for repair facilities to do the right thing.
Scratch Protection
Many high-value surfaces are part of construction projects (e.g. a yacht or oil/gas platform) that require months of even years to complete. Cal-West's peelable coatings protect surfaces from damage until final delivery to the customer.

Grocery delivery app Getir prepares to exit UK market
Getir, which has a multimillion-pound commercial deal with Spurs, is to put more than 1,000 jobs at risk when it withdraws from Britain, Sky News learns.

Getir, the grocery delivery app once valued at nearly $12bn (£9.7bn), is close to pulling the plug on its operations in Britain in a move that would spark concerns for well over 1,000 jobs.
Sky News has learnt that Getir is preparing to announce next week that it is withdrawing from the three remaining European markets in which it operates: the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
In total, thousands of jobs will be put at risk, including approximately 1,500 in the UK, according to people close to the situation.
The process through which Getir, which has a multimillion-pound commercial partnership with the Premier League's Tottenham Hotspur, plans to exit the UK was unclear on Friday.
Insiders said, that it could involve a sale of its assets or an insolvency procedure although they added that no decisions had been taken.
Getir has previously denied that any form of insolvency was on the cards for the group or its subsidiaries.
The company is understood to have drafted in restructuring advisers in recent days, while Mubadala, the Abu Dhabi fund that is one of its biggest shareholders, is being advised by AlixPartners.

Getir's plans to exit the UK and other markets will leave it with operations in the US and Turkey only.
Ultimately, it is expected to seek to operate solely in Turkey, where it was founded.
Meaning 'to bring' in Turkish, Getir expanded at breakneck speed to become of the world's most valuable fast-delivery platforms.
Earlier this week, Sky News reported that the company was weighing a string of asset sales, including FreshDirect, a US-based online grocer it only acquired late last year, as part of efforts to repair its balance sheet.
Getir was valued at nearly $12bn (£9.7bn) just two years ago, and has sought to acquire a number of rivals which have run into financial trouble.
The company has already pulled out of a number of countries, including Italy and Spain, in an attempt to reduce losses.
Its retreat highlights the slumping valuations of technology companies once-hailed as the new titans of major economies.

As well as Mubadala, Getir is backed by prominent tech investors including Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global.
The company was one of the hottest start-ups of the pandemic, when financiers rushed to plough billions of dollars into businesses they believed would benefit from structural shifts in the economy.
It raised more than $750m in a funding round in early 2022, but has seen its valuation slump since then.
Last September, Getir also announced a sharp cut in the size of its workforce, axeing roughly 2,500 jobs, or about 10% of its global employee base.
Founded in 2015, Getir was one of a crop of companies promising city-based consumers rapid delivery of groceries and other essential products.

During the COVID crisis, the industry saw sales explode, with emerging trends such as working from home fuelling investor confidence that the boom was sustainable.
Many of its rivals have already gone bust, while others have been swallowed up as part of a desperate wave of consolidation.
Getir itself bought Gorillas in a $1.2bn stock-based deal that closed in December 2022.
"Getir principally doesn't comment on rumours," a spokeswoman said on Friday.
