The vessel is in good condition.. It comes with it's own stand. I purchased this vessel in 2008 and have used it in North Channel and surrounding waters. The boat is currently at the Drummond Island Yacht Haven.in Michigan.on it's stand. Specifications: LOA 26.5 Ft, LWL 22.5 ft, Beam 9 ft, Draft 3.6 ft, Displacement 4400 lbs, Ballast wing keel 1800 lbs, Mast hgt. 38.9ft, head room 5.6 ft, Equipment: Main sail 110% Genoa. Roller reefing jIb, storm Jib Danforth Anchor with anchor locker. Built in head with holding tank. Marine TV,TV antenna with rack for TV. AC system with 3 bank charger. Electric portable stove. Also alcohol stove, Microwave oven , stainless steel sink AC plugs throughout ship. DC lights throughout ship. Two 31 Batteries, DC voltage meter, AC circuit breakers DC circuit breakers, Ice chest, Built in boarding ladder. Horseshoe life ring. Life jackets . Electronics: 2 Lowrance HDS 8 inch chart plotters, HD Radar, depth sounder, wind instrument , Horizon fog and hailing instrument. External Speakers fore and aft. VFH radio, all accessible from cockpit. Surveyor told me rudder has a water problem common with this vessel. Each fall I drill holes in bottom of rudder, I have had no problem since. The survey on this Vessel was $12000. I have added: 2 chart plotters, a new compass, Radar, a second depth finder, 3 bank Charging system, an AC system, Hailer, Auto fog horn system, Wind gauge, Roller furling. new Jib, and TV and TV accessories. The new additions are well over $6000 I am using Navionic chips which covers all the Great Lakes and the North channel. I taught Navigation at School Craft College for many years. I feel this is the best chart system on the market as I have the capability of setting up a safe water mark on the chart. So all water 6 feet and deeper is colored white and water shallower is blue. Boat and stand are on Drummond Island. It is buyer's responsibility to pick up here. This boat has 2 chart plotters. If you want a lower price, I am willing to sell it with one chart plotter minus the radar. this price can be negotiated.

Model Passage 42

Category Cruiser Motorcycles

Length 42.0

1993 Hunter Passage 42 - PROTEUS Set up for serious off-shore passage making and fully self-sufficient off-the-grid cruising. Has recently (beginning 2014) sailed in England, the coast of Europe and the western Med (2015) and crossed the Atlantic to the Caribbean (Nov 2015). Came up through the Caribbean (spring 2016). This yacht was never chartered, always privately owned, and meticulously cared for. All servicing and installations were done to a high standard. All safety equipment is up-to-date. The yacht participated in the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) which requires a high standard of safety equipment, training, and inspections. The yacht has been certified as a Class-A offshore sailing yacht. All documentation is available and will be conveyed to future owner. The previous owners lived aboard, loved every minute of it, but are now moving back on land for a few years and do not want the boat to sit and atrophy. She needs to go to a good home and to someone who will continue the journey! She has taken care of her owners for years and will continue to do so for many years to come. S/V PROTEUS is "overbuilt" and designed for extended offshore passage-making and off-the-grid cruising. Just want to jump all the way down to the USVI instead of going the super-slow way all the way through the Bahamas? Okay. The previous owners just made a passage from the Dominican Republic straight to Ft.Lauderdale (March 2016). Seven days offshore? No problem. PROTEUS has a thicker hull, reinforced rigging, extra backstay (B&R rigs normally don't have them). Massive solar panels, watermaker, genset, wind generator – all these advanced features make for a yacht that can go anywhere, do anything, and actually be comfortable while doing it. The solar panels were upgraded in 2015, and the owners report that they lived entirely off the solar panels and almost never used the generator while underway. Occasionally, you'll hear people scoff at production yachts for being only for "coastal" cruising. "Oh, I'd never cross an ocean in that!" Not the Passage 42! Did I mention she's cruised in the North Sea and English Channel recently? When there were only aluminum-hull Ovni's and other "extreme" sailboats and expedition yachts at the docks, PROTEUS was right in there with the best of them. All image were made in June 2016 except the two exterior shots, which were made in Spain and Gibraltar in June 2015. More photographs are available on request. Here is an interior walkthrough. Hunter 26.5 motor mount capacity

Does anyone know what the weight/H.P. rating on the factory outboard mount on the Hunter 26.5 is? I was considering getting a 9.9 or 15hp 4-stroke and am not sure if the factory mount can handle this. I also can't seem to find an aftermarket motor mount that would adjust to the transom angle. Does anyone know of one, or of some sort of wedge system that may be commercially available? Thanks, Matt

Clayton Fawcett

Honda 9.9 No Problem Matt, Not sure how much it will take, but mine handled a Honda 9.9 with no problems. I ended up not liking the fact that I couldn't get the motor out of the water, so I designed a custom stainless wedge so that I could mount a Garelock (sp?) heavy duty 4-Stroke motor mount. Here are a couple of pics...

Attachments

P1010039.jpg

Did the same I had a transom mounting bracket locally fabricated and attached the same lifting motor mount. It looks almost exactly like SV Walkabout's transom bracket. My Nissan 9.9 motor skeg, when lifted in the vertical position, is about 2 inches off the water. Really happy with the result.

Thanks. I was looking into getting the same mount bracket, but couldn't find a wedge anywhere. Do you have the dimensions/specs for the one you designed? I had a couple of ideas for a wedge of my own, however I just bought the boat and haven't taken possession yet so I can't get measurements. I wanted to bring the new motor setup with me and install it when I go pick up the boat. Any change you might be interested in fabricating another of your wedges? I'd be willing to buy one! Also, how do your boats do with the 9.9 hp outboards. Do you find that they're adequate? I'll be doing a lot of trips on the ICW were sailing the whole time might not be feasible. I'm not sure if the current 8 hp will have the power to get the boat to hull speed in a current. Thanks again. Matt

Motor Mount Matt, I was just looking at the plans that I made up and unfortunately don't have any dimensions on them. I can go measure the one that I have in the next couple of days and get you that info. As far as fabricating another one, it would be cheaper for you to get one made locally. I will however, take as many pics as you like and get the dimensions from the one I had built. I used 1/4" stainless steel plate that I had cut and then bent. The wedge is all one piece and then they just put it in a brake (metal bending machine) and then welded on two diagonal reinforcements at the upper corners. After that I just drilled the holes and mounted it. After mounting mine, I would recommend that you have the shop drill the holes in both the bracket and the backing plate. It is a real pain to drill stainless if you haven't worked with it much. I did install a 1/4" stainless steel backing plate as well that measured 14" x 14" inside the lazarette. The outboard bracket is a Garelock 4-stroke bracket that I highly recommend. The key to the whole thing is getting the wedge height set correctly above the waterline on the transom. I bought the 9.9 Honda I am using on the used market and it has worked flawlessly. One word of caution though is that you will probably end up having to change the prop out as most motors come with a propellor for a planing hull. I went clear down to a 6.5 pitch 4 bladed prop (from an 8 pitch) and love it. Gets the boat up to hull speed, has plenty of torque, and the biggest benefit is that the reverse thrust available will let me do things that I really shouldn't. The only thing that I would caution you on is pick your weather days when sailing with a transom hung outboard as breaking following waves could drown the motor hanging off the back. The prop also does come out of the water in anything over 2'-3' waves. Keep in mind that I am on an inland lake and that ocean waves should have a longer wave period. The little waves that I have to deal with are wind generated and very close together.

Thanks, you've been very helpful! I would appreciate any photos/specs you can provide. Matt

I currently have a Yamaha 8hp, 4-stroke high thrust model on my Hunter 26.5. This motor has a low gear ratio with a 11" dia. low pitch prop that works great for this boat. Hull speed, backing and stopping is not a problem with this motor. GREAT MOTOR ! Tim

I forgot to mention I'm using this Yamaha on the factory mount for the last five years with no visible problems on the mount or transom. Tim

Thanks Tim. I've been looking at 15hp models- don't plan on running at full throttle, but thought it would be nice to have the extra thrust if running in a current. Plus I would think a 15hp at half throttle would be more fuel efficient than the 8hp 2-stroke I bought with the boat at high throttle. I'd rather be SAILING the boat anyway, but with some parts of the long ICW trips I'll be doing I don't want to be underpowered when I need the motor. I'm glad to hear the 8hp gives you enough power. I'm beginning to think 15hp might be too much weight and too much power for the boat and that a newer 9.9 could be the best choice.

Hello, Sorry for the delay in getting this info posted. Attached is the drawing that I used to make the motor mount wedge for my 26.5. I must note that once I went and saw the guys at the metal shop, we switched the design from aluminum to stainless steel. Also, the drawing shows four welds and mine only has two, the flanges that were welded inboard. Hope this helps and it does contain the critical dimensions that you will need to get one built. Basically all the machine shop has to do is cut one piece out of stainless, bend it, and then weld on the inboard flanges. Make sure to have them make a backing plate at the same time and drill both the wedge and the backing plate to match as drilling stainless is a royal pain at times. If you get it too hot when drilling, forget it...

Go to Sailing Texas classifieds for current sailboats for sale Hunter 26.5, 1987 sailboat for sale Missoula Montana

In excellent condition, with several recent updates, including new roller furler, jib halyard, memory foam cushions for berths (2021), new main halyard just installed today.

All lights have been upgraded to LED, twin batteries, solar panel and charge controller, Bluetooth stereo, main battery fuses upgraded to newer style that mount on the battery terminals. Mast electrical replaced 2021. 8hp Yamaha (2010) with very few hours, electric trim/tilt, electric start and it runs perfectly. Has had nothing but Yamaha fluids for the engine and lower unit, fresh impeller every year. Standing rigging is in excellent condition, and running rigging is new or 1 yr old. Two self tailing winches for jib/genoa sheets, and one for the halyards. Traveler at the front of the cockpit. Solar fan keeps the cabin nice and fresh, and a large hatch forward makes for excellent airflow while on anchor. Main sail had one reef point when we bought the boat, we paid a sail maker to put in another for added safety. Sail inventory includes main, furling jib and spinnaker.

The cabin has a propane cook top and sink in the galley. There is a 25 gallon fresh water tank, but we have never used it. The portapotty is clean and dry, and easy to use, which is very handy for long days on the water. Prior to my ownership, the fresh water line to the sink must have had a leak, there is an area of the sole about 6”x1’ right beside the galley sink cabinet with some water damage.

Boat includes all dock lines, life jackets, anchor with rode, some extra lines. We are selling because our kids have moved out and we no longer need this large of a boat, so it’s time to get something smaller. Serenade needs nothing, she’s in a slip ready to sail. Slip MAY be transferable for an additional fee. Includes a 2009 custom built two axle trailer by Tufftrailer with extendable tongue so you can launch from the trailer. Asking price is $10,000. Includes mast raising system so you can raise the mast either on the trailer (extra winch on trailer) or on the water using the mainsheet. Main sail cover included, and when the jib was modified for the furler the sailmaker installed UV covers to protect it.

Rig and Sails

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

  • SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

Deep keel: 4.25’.

  1. HUNTER 26.5

It takes into consideration "reported" sail area, displacement and length at waterline. The higher the number the faster speed prediction for the boat. A cat with a number 0.6 is likely to sail 6kts in 10kts wind, a cat with a number of 0.7 is likely to sail at 7kts in 10kts wind. KSP = (Lwl*SA÷D)^0.5*0.5
