Marina Villa Igiea. Your journey across the Mediterranean Sea starts here.
Marina Villa Igiea is the yacht harbour of Palermo. Its strategic location, in the heart of the Mediterranean, makes it a reference point for countless routes. Few steps away from down town and only fourty minutes by car from the international airport of Palermo, Marina Villa Igiea offers 400 fully equipped berths for boats up to 75 meters, while a new pier will soon welcome megayachts up to 120 meters LOA.
An impressive project of expansion and improvement of services is gradually turning the place into one of the most prestigious and important marinas in the Med.
Being part of the scenic district Acquasanta, north of the industrial port, Marina Villa Igiea is sheltered by the mountains surrounding Palermo and by two breakwaters. The famous, luxurious, five stars Grand Hotel Villa Igiea is located just behind the harbour.

First settled in Roman times, the Sicilian capital of Palermo is a buzzing cosmopolitan city that while Italian is one with roots in a range of other cultures as well. Do try to spend a day or two at the beginning of your Palermo yacht charter to explore this pearl of the Mediterranean.
Palermo and Sicily have only been under Italy's control since 1861 - just 160 or so years of a history that dates back Millennia. One of the artefacts of its absorption into the united kingdom of Italy is the Teatro Massimo, the third largest opera house in Europe after Vienna and Paris. Even if opera isn't your thing you can explore the building, that took 20 years to build, with a guided tour.
In terms of time of control, the Arabs had a bigger influence over the Sicilian capital. Taking over the island in the 9th Century the Arabs called the city Bal'harm and ruled over it from 831 to 1087. You will see many markets in the city today that are redolent of souks in North Africa. Visit the Palazzo dei Normanni - not a Norman palace but an Arab one - with its jaw dropping decoration throughout.
The Normans - yes, the Viking descendants who invaded the UK - have had an influence on Palermo too. In the 12th Century they built the cathedral in Palermo, which is at least as good as those you will see in Normandy or the UK.
Explore Palermo By Renting A Yacht
For those who are after a beautiful beach, a short ride out of Palermo will take you to the beach resort of Mondello, a former fishing town that is now one of the best holiday towns in Sicily. The art nouveau Antico Stabilimento Balneare can't be ignored with its piano bar adding a certain Sicilian feel to this unique beach resort.
Starting in the middle of the north coast of Sicily, a Palermo yacht charter can take you east or west. Whether on a sailboat or motor boat, many bareboat and luxury yacht charters will involve heading east and out across the Mediterranean Sea to the Aeolian Island chain, a volcanic island group that includes Stromboli, Vulcano, Lipari, Salina and Panarea. In the winter months their populations are those of a small village but come the high summer months the area is busier. They come for a reason - you just won't see somewhere like these volcanic island chain anywhere else in Europe. Beach lovers will love a volcanic black sandy beach as an alternative to what you will find elsewhere. Those with walking boots can climb to the mouths of the volcanoes.
On your yachting holiday, heading west out of Palermo on your Sicily yacht charter there is lots to explore. The Aegadian islands (aka Egadi Islands) off the north west tip of the island are a place so quiet you can forget the world, even at the height of the tourist season. Not as popular as the Aeolian island chain, they could well be a destination if the sound of the wind on your rigging is more appealing than the buzz of others outside your group sharing your fun. Humanity has been around since pre-history, as can be seen in the cave paintings there.
On the coast to the east of the Egadi islands is somewhere the British have made famous with their fondness for Marsala wine. Marsala itself is an important town on the coast and those with a fondness for wine can explore the source of this red nectar.
How To Get To Palermo
Palermo Airport
This is an important airport for the island - both for commerce and its tourist trade. As such it has flights from mainland Italy and much of Europe throughout the week, and charter flights coming in during the summer months.
Take a bus or taxi into the city, there are plenty running at all times.

Suggested Sailing Routes From Palermo
Sicily is an archipelago of islands, with smaller island groups off the coast of the main island. Whether on a bareboat charter or luxury yacht charter , a sailing holiday out of Palermo will almost certainly take you to watch the volcano of Stromboli release its fireworks into the night. A longer trip will take that in and head off to the quieter Egadi islands and a chance to explore Marsala.
7 days - Aeolian Islands and Stromboli: This is an opportunity to sail off and see some live and extinct volcanoes. Stromboli is currently one of the most active on the Mediterranean, and a night watching it release its magma is almost an essential stop on a sailing holiday out of Palermo! The other islands in the Aeolian group are Vulcano, Lipari, Salina and Panarea, where you will spend an day at each, exploring their natural wonders high up and even in the sapphire blue sea around them.
14 days - Aeolian and Egadi Islands: Your first half of the holiday will be out to Stromboli and the volcanic Aeolian islands. You will then head east where you can explore the NE coast of Sicily and its famous Marsala wine. Just off the coast here are the Aegadi Islands that while extremely laid back today have seen their fair share of history - the Romans signed a peace treaty with Carthage there. Each island has its idiosyncrasy but all have one thing in common they are delightfully quiet.
Best Times To Hire A Yacht In Palermo
As a subtropical archipelago of islands, Sicily is good for sailing between March and October. Choosing the time to charter a yacht is very much down to your tastes. Some like the hurly burly of fighting for mooring space in a marina and the buzz of a holiday town at full blast. If that's to your taste then do do the trip in the heat of July and August. Remember though that as with all other Italian marinas you will find that the prices go up at this time of year.
September and October can be a little cooler but the seas remain warm. You may get a bit of rain and even the windy period but it's still warmer than in Northern Europe or New England. The towns are quieter too and the locals perhaps less busy enough to spend more time with you, helping you deepen your appreciation of the nation.
If you can get to Sicily during school term time - in May perhaps - you will get the warmth without the crowds.
Sailing Weather In Palermo
It does rain in Sicily but largely at higher altitudes on the mountainous interior. At lower levels - sea level - the islands often see drought come summer. Autumn and winter see the most rainfall.
In terms of the wind, two of them dominate the Sicily climate:
Sirocco: This is a hot southerly wind that brings fierce heat from Africa. Recently temperatures have topped 40 degrees C fairly regularly, even in seaside towns like Trapani. Having crossed the Med it often bears humidity too.
Mistral: This is the northerly mountain wind from the Rhone Valley in France that often catches sailors unawares throughout the year. It can get quite strong at any time of the year but there is one advantage - it is a cool wind that will often be a relief from the Sirocco.
What should I consider when hiring a Yacht or Boat?
The main points to consider for a boat rental are what your budget is, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.
What are the Marinas in Palermo?
The main marina is Marina Villa Igiea (Acquasanta). This has 379 berths and can accommodate even larger yachts of up to 65m. There are two other marinas - Marina Palermo (70 berths) and Marina Arenella (90 berths).
When are the best times to hire a boat in Palermo?
During high season the weather is at its hottest, the crowds at their busiest and the marinas in Palermo charge a premium. As such if you can get there outside of July and August you may find it cooler, less busy and a lot less expensive!
Do you have to pay a deposit when hiring a Yacht in Palermo?
You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the yacht hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.
What happens if my Yacht breaks down?
If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.
What should I think of before I hire a Yacht or Boat in Palermo?
You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.
What Qualifications Do I need to hire a boat or yacht?
If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. For small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a skippered on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.

Six things you need to know before embarking on a yacht charter in Palermo!
1. street food capital of europe.
In 2015, Palermo proudly reigned as Europe’s street food capital and it’s not surprising! Having been founded by the Phoceans and subsequently passing under Arab, Norman and other regimes, Sicilian cuisine is indeed unique. If you’re a fan of Greek, Arab, Spanish or French cuisine, you’ll happily enjoy your food experiences here. Be sure to try the ‘arancini’ rice balls, ‘gelato’ – Italy is the birthplace of this delicious ice-cream desert, and ‘cannoli’ – a shell-shaped biscuit stuffed with ricotta.
2. One of the most visited cities in Europe
If you’re looking for a reason to charter a yacht in Palermo, here it is: The city derives its name from the Greek work ‘Panoremus’ which means ‘always fit for landing in’ – most likely called-so because of its strategic location in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Palermo’s metropolitan area is Italy’s fifth most populated, boasting approximately 1.2 million people. The locals speak Italian as well as a ‘Palermitan’ dialect of the Sicilian language.
2. Rich history
The story of Palermo dates to the 8th century BC, when the Phoceans founded the city. Today, it is Palermo’s diverse architecture that betrays its tempestuous past. In the city centre you can admire the Massimo Theatre, the largest opera theatre in the country, and the Politeama Garibaldi Theatre, a great architectural work created for the leisure and entertainment of the local people. In Corso Vittorio Emanuele, you can visit the Palermo Cathedral, in 2015 recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On that note, did you know that the Sicily region has the most UNESCO World Heritage sites in all of Italy? A yacht charter in Palermo is the perfect way to drift back in time and explore Italy’s past!
3. Like Paris, Palermo has catacombs too!
Explore the Capuchin Catacombs; an eerie labyrinth under the city of Palermo. Here you’ll walk amongst 8,000 bodies, each one dressed in the attire of their respective era. Some corpses are still perfectly preserved… ready to test yourself? See if you’ve got what it takes to spend a morning or afternoon in Palermo’s catacombs!
4. Palermo’s musical supergroup
What better way to connect with the local culture of Palermo than through music? Take yourself to a Teatro Ditirammu concert and enjoy an evening full of folk songs and entertainment. This family-run company consists of an ensemble of around 12 musicians and singers who create a thoroughly entertaining environment. Sit back, relax with a glass of Marsala wine and enjoy the night.
5. A holy mountain that sounds like a popular bottled-water brand
Monte Pellegrino (not to be mistaken with San Pellegrino water!), a 606-metre-high mountain, was once the home of the patron saint of Italy. Rosalia di Sinibaldo lived here during the 12th century. Legend has it that Saint Rosalia banished the plague from Palermo in 1624. Apart from this interesting story, the mountain offers stunning panoramic views of the city.
How to get to Palermo, Sicily?

Cast off from Palermo, Castellammare del Golfo, Trapani or even Marsala. Low-cost airline, Ryanair, operates weekly flights between Palermo and several other European cities. With an abundance of Italian architecture, culture, and history to explore, Palermo offers the distinctive warmth of an authentic Mediterranean holiday as well as an insight into the storied history and rich tradition of the wondrous city. Boasting over 100 churches and hosting 12 UNESCO sites across the Palermo province, it’s easy to see why the city was bestowed with the ‘Capital of Culture’ award in 2018. Home to the third-largest theater in Europe, Teatro Massimo, and a Royal Palace, Palazzo dei Normanni, be sure to spend a day winding through the city’s Sicilian streets, taking in the city’s jumbled layers of architecture as you go.
The essential sights are mostly found in the center and are easy to cover on foot. After enjoying a sumptuous breakfast aboard your superyacht, venture inland to visit the Cattedrale di Palermo. A prime example of Sicily’s unique Arab-Norman architectural style, the cathedral stands proudly in the city’s center showing off its array of geometric patterns and blind arches. Wander up to the roof of the cathedral to enjoy panoramic views over the beautiful city.
For lovers of art and architecture, make sure not to miss the extraordinary chapel of Cappella Palatina. Designed by Roger II in 1130, the chapel’s well-lit interior is simply breathtaking. Its glittering gold mosaics are complemented by inlaid marble floors and a magnificent vaulted ceiling. Every inch of the chapel is lined with precious stone giving the space a lustrous quality upon your entry. The bulk of the mosaics recount the tales of the Old Testament and capture expressions, detail and movement with extraordinary grace and detail. This is definitely a location not to be missed during your yacht charter vacation.
As the biggest city in Sicily, Palermo is a cultural hotspot offering a vibrant nightlife and plenty of places to unwind. After a long day exploring, head over to La Kalsa which hosts many chic bars serving refreshing apéritifs. One of the city’s favorites is Palermo’s first original cocktail bar Bocum . With a stylish interior and many funky, lavish objects to wonder at, this bar has a spectacular long-lived reputation. Spend an evening here relaxing and taking in the modern art around you as you sip on the finest of cocktails.

Lying off the boot of Italy, the island of Sicily is an up-and-coming destination. It’s also a fine point of departure for a yacht charter vacation, with plenty of smaller islets nearby. In May 2023, Jane Foster attended a three-night Palermo Sicily Yacht Show. She tells us about the yachts, the city, and the best sailing routes nearby.
Could you tell us about the West Coast International Palermo Fleet Show?
It was held at the 400-berth Villa Igiea Marina in Palermo. The fleet consisted of six luxury yachts. Three single-hull sailing boats (My Lottie, Tess, and Malizia) and three catamarans (Aria, Didymos, and Blue Destiny). They’ll all be based at the marina through summer 2023, available for crewed charter.
Max of 7 selections
BLUE DESTINY
8 1 18.00 m
7 2 25.00 m
We were 26 guests, mainly yacht brokers, from Italy, France, Croatia, Greece, Switzerland, and the US. We slept aboard for three days, inspected the individual boats, and got to know their crews. Each day we had lunch and dinner on a different boat to sample all the chefs’ cooking.
I was aboard My Lottie (27m ; sleeps eight guests in 4 cabins; on request, can be converted to sleep 10 in 5 cabins), built in 1983 by Benetti (refurbished in 2013 and 2021).
What did you like best about My Lottie?
My Lottie is ideal for a family or group of friends who’re interested in wind-powered sailing. She has two masts and a ketch navigation system. So you can hoist up the sails, switch off the motor, and harmonize with the elements – sea, wind, and sky.
But what made an impression on me was the crew. They were lovely: the captain, Giuseppe; deckhand Jose; chef Stefania; and stewardess Dominique. One evening we had a cocktail competition. Each crew prepared a cocktail accompanied by finger food, and all the guests had to visit each boat and taste and judge their offer. My Lottie won! Stefania concocted a punchy cocktail using tequila, lemon, capers, black pepper, and salt beautifully presented.
The catamarans are more suitable for guests less interested in sailing and wanting to spend more time aboard. They all have spacious minimalist white socializing interiors, expansive sunbathing decks, and an open-air Jacuzzi on the top deck.
Can you tell us about the food aboard during the Palermo Sicily Yacht Show
On My Lottie, each morning, we woke to the smell of freshly-baked cake. We found a fresh fruit platter on the table – strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, pears, and melon, all peeled and sliced. We had strong Italian espresso coffee made-to-order, toast and jam, and delicious cake.
Lunch and dinner were authentic feasts on all the boats. We had a lot of raw fish for appetizers, such as swordfish tartar and prawn carpaccio. This being Italy, almost every meal included a pasta dish. The one that really impressed me was paccheri pasta in a creamy shrimp sauce, topped with raw shrimp (that was on Tess). Of the main courses, my favorite was the sea bass baked in a salt crust (on My Lottie). Of the deserts, I’m still dreaming about the basil sorbet topped with pistachios and warm salted caramel sauce.
We also had dinner out one night, so we tasted some classic Sicilian specialties. Arancini (rice balls filled with mozzarella and ham, deep-fried) and cannoli (pastry rolls filled with sweet ricotta).
Sicily produces some good wines – did you try any?
We had guided wine tasting with a lady from Tasca, Sicily’s biggest wine producer, founded in 1830. And we drank their excellent wines with most of our meals aboard. Their Tasca d’Almerita Mozia Grillo is a summery white, which pairs well with seafood. They have five estates, including vineyards on the slopes of Mount Etna and the tiny island of Mozia. Their estate on Salina, one of the Aeolian islets, has a residence called Capofaro in the vineyard. That looks really special!
Where can someone expect to sail if someone charters a boat on Sicily? | Sicily Yacht Charter
The most popular route takes you northeast on the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Aeolian archipelago , which is Unesco-protected. These extraordinary islands are volcanic; the seven largest are Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Filicudi, Stromboli, Alicudi, and Panarea. To reach them, it’s best to set sail from Sicily’s nearest marina, Capo d’Orlando. If you sail from Palermo, it’s a 6-hour voyage.
Each islet is unique. They have sulfurous waters, mud baths, and a natural Jacuzzi – Stromboli and Vulcano are still active. Locals live from fishing, farming, winemaking, and tourism. The islets are great for hiking and scuba diving; you can even take helicopter tours above the volcanoes. To see how the islands looked 80 years ago, watch Rossellini’s classic film, Stromboli (1950), starring Ingrid Bergman.
Then off Sicily’s west coast, opposite Trapani, you have the Egadi islands. They’re not volcanic, and they’re less visited, very peaceful, and lie within the Mediterranean’s largest marine reserve. They offer safe anchorages and are great for snorkeling as the seabed is rich in biodiversity and archaeological finds. A Roman-Carthaginian naval battle took place here in 241 BC.
The largest island, Favigliana, is flat, so it’s ideal for cycling, and it’s also known for fishing for bluefin tuna. It has an excellent restaurant, Cibo Chiacchiere Vino , where all the produce is homemade. Opposite Trapani, in a sheltered lagoon, you can also visit the tiny island of Mozia. It’s home to Tasca vineyards and has a museum displaying archaeological finds.
For guests arriving in Palermo long-haul, I’d recommend a recuperation night at Villa Igiea set in gardens overlooking the marina. Recently reopened following restoration, it has gorgeous frescoed interiors.
What did you do beyond the marina?
We had an excellent guided tour of Palermo with an art historian. She took us around the car-free city center to see its Arab-Norman monuments, mainly churches, which are Unesco-listed. Palermo was founded by the Phoenicians, who arrived in the 8th century BC.
There are so many layers of history; it’s a real mixing pot of diverse cultures. It was also very wealthy in late-1800’s, thanks mainly to the Florio shipping family, who traded Marsala wine. You can see some elegant villas from that time and imagine how well people lived then.
Did you go anywhere else outside Palermo?
On the final day, I visited Cefalu, a pretty seaside town with a long sandy beach one-hour east of Palermo. I hope to visit Sicily again when I’d like to see Taormina on the east coast. And I’d love to sail around those Aeolian islands too.
In summary, it was an excellent experience to attend the Palermo Sicily Yacht Show. We thank West Coast International for their hospitality.

Businessman allegedly threatens to ‘ruin’ dock worker, ‘drops his pants’ in heated dispute over yacht parking.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.
A California philanthropist allegedly threatened to kill a dock worker during a heated argument from his multimillion-dollar yacht, before dropping his pants and making several threatening gestures to the employee.
Ajay Thakore, a local entrepreneur in the San Diego area, attempted to dock his Lamborghini yacht at the private Marriot Marquis Marina to pick up one of his employees but was stopped by worker Joseph Holt on Sunday.
“I told him respectfully that he couldn’t be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat,” Holt told CBS8. “But yeah, it completely went the other way.”
Thakore, who goes by his social media name, Ace Rogers, was riding on his rare $4.5 million Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht at the time of the daytime dispute.
Holt claimed Thakore became hostile as soon as he was told off.
“It escalated immediately. It was 0 to 100 immediately,” the 21-year-old worker added.
Thakore, the CEO of medical advertising firm Doctor Multimedia, allegedly began to threaten Holt’s life as the luxury speedboat drove away from the docks.
“I will kill you, you know I will kill you, I will kill,” Thakore repeatedly yells, according to the video posted to YouTube.
Besides threatening to take Holt’s life, Thakore claimed to have the power to get the dock worker fired, ripping on the type of job he had.
“I’m a minimum wage worker, he was commenting on that, on my status just because of my job,” Holt said. “He was saying I’m nobody, I’m nothing, I work a silly job.”
“He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it,” he added.
During the heated discussion, Thakore allegedly pulled out his wallet and began throwing $100 bills at Holt and into the water, according to the outlet.
Holt said he tried to control himself during the incident and only gave Thakore the middle finger.
“I really didn’t know how to process it. I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird,” he said.
The dock hand blasted Thakore for his actions, especially in a public setting where he stripped nude and showed himself off.
“He had dropped his pants and started to make gestures to everybody watching and me. You can’t act that way in public. It’s just not OK. Especially threatening my life, at the very least. There were women and children there. That’s the most important part,” Holt said.
Thakore claims his outburst started because of a misunderstanding and was sorry for the people who saw it.
“The interaction that occurred yesterday was regrettable. What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange,” Thakore’s public relations team said in a statement, obtained by KFMB.
Port of San Diego Harbor Police were called to the Seaforth Boat rental dock for “a possible intoxicated vessel operator” but arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore and his boat had left.
The employee who attempted to board the extravagant boat defended his boss’s actions, saying Holt was hostile toward Thakore, and the businessman was only defending his team.
“As I went to kindly step onto the Yacht, I was impeded by two members that work for Seaforth Boat Rental,” Thakore’s employee Jason said on a post to the CEO’s Instagram account.
Jason said he was told to “stand back” the first time he went to step on the boat, and claimed he was forearmed during his second attempt to board the yacht.
“They physically got in my way, the situation became fairly tense, there was a lot of screaming back and forth, extremely confrontational, I didn’t fully understand protocol, as I was going to step onto the boat.”
“As all of this happened, my boss flipped and he’s very protective of me, his fiancée, of his employees.” Jason added. “It was a confusing situation that became very tense and very confrontational.”
Thakore captioned the post saying “there are two sides to every story and it’s easy to paint a picture with edited video clips from cell phones.”
“My employee Jason was being restricted, restrained, and threatened while trying to board my yacht. As a leader, I defend my own fiercely with everything I have, and I will never apologize for that,” the caption read.

The Iceman turned into Aquaman during a recent trip to San Diego ... falling off the side of the luxurious watercraft in front of all his peers -- requiring some serious assistance to get out of the water.
Liddell chalked the fall up to his animated hand gestures while talking ... and once he lost his balance, he only had two options -- hit the deck or aim for the H20.

Who is Ajay Thakore? San Diego Lamborghini Yacht owner threatens dock worker in viral video
A n Indian-origin California business owner Ajay Thakore recently made headlines when he reportedly threatened a dockyard worker at San Diego's Marriott Marina after the latter refused to let the former park his $4.5 million Lamborghini Yacht, as per Times Now News.
The video of the incident has now gone viral online. While the face of the man threatening the dock employee saying "I will kill you!" multiple times remains unclear in the footage, many media outlets, including the New York Post confirmed it was Ajay Thakore, who has previously been part of similar confrontations.
Apart from threatening to kill the dock worker, the man in the video also flashed at the latter, as the yacht moved away from the marina. In the wake of this incident, here's looking at who Ajay Thakore is.
Ajay Thakore also goes by the name Ace Rogers
According to Daily Mail, Ajay Thakore also goes by the name Ace Rogers and he is a wealthy businessman and philanthropist based in San Diego, California. He is the CEO of Doctor Multimedia, a local medical marketing agency, and Gopher Media LLC.
He has previously faced similar controversy in 2021 when he was accused of harassing the employees of a La Jolla pizza joint called American Pizza Manufacturing. Its founder Andrew Melone alleged back then that it all started with Thakore defaming the take-and-bake pizza establishment on social media.
However, things escalated when the Indian-origin business owner reportedly parked two of his cars directly in front of the eatery, blocking its entrance, with texts, "Take N Bake Pizza Sucks" glaring on top of it.
Melone also claimed that an airplane flew over the locality with the banner reading, "Just Say No to Take N Bake Pizza." Not only that but Ajay Thakore reportedly involved another pizzeria in the area Carino's, with planes displaying messages like "Carino's Pizza is Better than Take N Bake."
Additionally, Thakore and his companies filed a $10 million lawsuit against Andrew Melone and his public accusations, claiming that they were "exercising their First Amendment Rights" and protesting against discrimination. The owner of the pizzeria countersued, alleging Thakore had persistently harassed him and his company. The two civil lawsuits are still underway.
Exploring the recent controversy surrounding Ajay Thakore
On the afternoon of March 10, 2024, Ajay Thakore's multimillion-dollar Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht was not allowed to park in the Seaforth Boat Rental lot in San Diego's Marriott Marina. He was reportedly there to pick up an employee. The video of the incident has now gone viral.
It shows a man standing on the edge of the yacht threatening to "kill" the worker identified as Joseph Holt, as per CBS 8. Later, as the boat moved away from the dock, the former dropped his pants and made inappropriate gestures toward the 21-year-old employee. The harasser even threw $100 bills at the guy which fell into the water.
Holt told reporters that he "respectfully" told the driver not to park in the private space and was hoping to have a "conversation" with him about his "cool boat," when "it completely went the other way."
"I really didn't know how to process it. I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird," Holt stated.
The employee also mentioned how Thakore berated him for his minimum wage labor and called him a nobody who did nothing on a "silly job." The expensive boat owner allegedly threatened to have him fired using his "connections" and ruin his life.
The dock worker further continued,
"He had dropped his pants and started to make gestures to everybody watching and me. You can't act that way in public. It's just not okay. Especially threatening my life, at the very least. There were women and children there. That's the most important part."
In contrast, Ajay Thakore's public relations team told CBS 8 that the "interaction" was "regrettable."
"What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange," the statement added.
Later, Ajay Thakore's employee Jason, whom the former was supposed to pick up during the fiasco, also issued a clarification via his boss' Instagram (@acerogersceo). He said that he was not allowed to get aboard, and was asked to "stand back" and even "forearmed" which is when Thakore allegedly "flipped" as he was protective of him, his fiancé, and his other employees, tagging it as a long-drawn misunderstanding.
In the caption of the post, it was Ajay Thakore who seemed to issue a statement:
"As a leader, I defend my own fiercely with everything I have, and I will never apologize for that. You can choose to believe that I just pulled up to the dock and started yelling, or you can realize that a lot happened before the cameras were rolling and that it takes two sides to escalate a situation."
Notably, in the aftermath of the incident, Port of San Diego Harbor Police were called in, who arrived 10 minutes after Ajay Thakore's boat left the marina. Joseph Holt told the news outlet that the officers didn't take his complaints seriously and were even laughing at him.
The department responded by telling CBS 8 that they were called in to deal with a "possible intoxicated vessel operator" who had departed the area before they got there and that they were unable to do anything with. The statement went on to say that a report had been made and that the police had spoken with the complainant and witnesses.
